After practicing with your ghost sword, you headed back inside to have dinner with your family. It was a rather meager spread, though compared to the rations you’ve been eating for the last few days, it’s a welcome change. Over the meal you relate to your parents various tales and events of your journey, the interesting things you saw, and anything else that comes to mind. You’re glad to have the opportunity to catch up with them after all of this.

Once dinner is complete, you consider how to spend the rest of your evening.

You decide it might be a good idea to practice with all of your monsters as a group, to better improve your teamwork.

You head out into the yard, the three closely following at your heels. You explain the general idea of what you're planning, and the responses are about what you'd expect. Riolu and Froakie seem to be rather excited the prospect, while Bagon seems to be more indifferent to the idea.

You take out your ghost sword as well, figuring that you should get some practice in with using it alongside your pokemon.

Now, to get down to business.

You start of by setting up a general formation. Riolu and Froakie on each flank, with you and Bagon in the center.

First you just practice moving about in the formation, with some basic laps around the yard. Riolu and Froakie make good use of the trees and fences to get extra elevation, while Bagon powers forward rather directly.

Once you feel like you've got everything in sink, you start the next part, tossing rocks towards the center of the formation to test reaction time. Each time you throw one, you call out a name, and then the one called tries to hit the rock.

Froakie has the easiest time, shooting water and bubbles to knock the rocks out of the air, and even jumping up and striking directly at some of your higher throws. Riolu has a bit tougher of a time, and often needs to wait for the stone to almost land before he can reach it. Occasionally he's in a position to leap off of a wall, but he's mostly stuck using his arms and legs.

Bagon takes a few tries to understand that he's not supposed to attack unless his name gets called, though his showings are rather impressive. He's able to shoot rather sizable bursts of flame, though his accuracy leaves much to be desired. He usually hits the stone, but is off target by enough of a degree that any smaller projectile would miss. His ability to strike the stones in melee when they come down is also rather poor. He tries to leap at a few of them, but general finds himself jumping too soon or too late. The fact that he strikes with his head and can't see while doing so means his ability to hit small targets is rather hampered. In anger, he often stomps on the pepple, and in a few cases he powders it completely using his skull.

You're the last up, and you have Riolu toss a few stone up in front of you as you work on fencing with your ghost sword. By the time you're through, you're very used to the weight. You also notice that there aren't even any scratches on the blade from when it struck the rock.

You spend a bit longer going over basic tactics, mainly making sure that Froakie and Bagon know to avoid spewing water and fire at the same target, and giving the two speedsters advice to strike enemies towards Bagon's range.

All in all, you think you've improved greatly. By the time you finish, the sun is sinking over the horizon. You might still have a couple hours to work with though.

You decide to speak with your father about the blockade once more, and head up to his office. You wait a moment after knocking on the door before entering. He looks up from his work as you walk in.

"Ah, Ceil," he says, "Was there something you wanted to talk about?"

"Yes, it's about the blockade," you explain, "I think I would be able to sneak on board."

You proceed to explain the abilities of your ghost sword as best as you can, and about how it could teleport you across shadows. You think that it might be able to teleport you all the way across the harbor if it was at night.

"Hmm, if that's true," your father replies, "Then it could be rather useful indeed. The problem I foresee is that you'd be infiltrating all of these ships alone, and even if you did manage to go through a few without getting caught, the alarm would likely be raised once they noticed the first ship was on fire. Then there's the matter of the aquatic monsters. They would be able to put out any such fire unless we took them out with our lightning monsters first, but once that happens they'd know they were under attack, and sneaking aboard would become much more difficult. If we could time it right it might work out, but what we'd really need would be to disable around half of their ships before we try to force a naval confrontation."

You think on this for a moment. You needed to figure out a way to take out some of the ships and the aquatic monsters in one fell swoop.

Maybe we could try and tame some of the desert dragons? Bagon can breath fire so if we get a few more maybe they can help?
>>
>>36255740
Is gunpowder a thing yet? Do the traders have greek fire? We should also experiment long distance shadowporting at night and also if we can take pokemon with us when we do that.

Aside from that, we should see if we can fell a tree with the ghost blade. It's a bit of a long shot but it's mystically sharp and being able to fell the masts would be a quick and effective way to create pandemonium. If we angled it right we could potentially use the felled masts as bridges between ships to reduce the need to shadowport.

>>36255854
This is also a good idea if we have the time to head back to those caves. They were a days walk away right? Do the merchants have any form of mount we could use to expedite this?
>>
>>36255740
maybe if we could delay fire...
>Propose an alteration to the current plan (specify)
have us put some oil on the ships we sneak on, then have the flying ones act as bomber with lanterns?
and then we send the electric ones to attack, the enemy water 'mons will probably be taken by surprise because of the fire
>>
>>36255895
In terms of flammable materials, you'd mostly be dealing with pitch, tar, and oil. Nothing overly explosive. It also would be difficult to get a sizable amount onto the ships.

The caves where you found bagon are two or three days away. Even with a steed to get you to the cave, it likely wouldn't be able to travel underground. There are also a few other monsters capable of breathing fire already in the city.
>>
>>36255976
Are there any of those apricorns still around? I vaguely remember there being a demonstration at the start of the quest.

With those we'd have a much easier time of getting pokemon on and off the boats
>>
>>36256060
You'd need to check in town, though I will point out that those things were selling out very quickly, were imported from far away, and there is a blockade.
>>
>>36256082
They may well be all sold, but surely we can requisition them in a time of crisis? Anyway, that's probably another day-time activity.

"What if we had a way to delay the fire? Say I try sneaking on and setting up tar and oil," you propose, "Then once the battle starts we can send flying monsters over with lanterns to drop on and light them."

"Well, the ships have some flying types of their own, and a pool of oil on the deck is fairly obvious," your father replies, "Though delaying the fire is a good idea, and I think I know just the way to do it."

"You'll need to sneak onto each ship and head below decks," he continues, "Once you find a secluded location, you place some pitch there, and then light a candle on top of it. We'll need to figure out the right lengths, but if you can get to each one fast enough, we might be able to light them all within the same length of time."

You think you'd just hit on the answer. With this, it was just a matter of making sure you could teleport that far along with not being seen.

"I think that might work," you say.

"Great!" he exclaims, "I'll need to go over the new plan with the other merchants, as well as getting together the siege engines and candles, but we should be prepared to strike in two days time. Do you think you'll be ready by then?"

You nod in acknowledgement. This plan had to work.

"Would tarring the water and setting it on fire as their aquatic monsters come up to fight help?" you ask.

"Maybe," your father muses, "Though it would be difficult to position the oil there in the first place as well as light it. While it might inconvenience them, it would also cause problems for our ships once they were in the bay."

You nod, and thank him for his time before heading outside. The sun has fully set by this point, which is exactly what you were hoping for.

You draw the sword, and prepare to shadow step once again. You aim for an alley across the street, and lunge.

>Ceil HP 6/10

Now that you're prepared for it, you find yourself quickly stepping back into position and ready. You then take a moment to survey your surroundings. You're at the far end of the alley, meaning you went almost an entire block. It does feel like it took a bit more out of you this time though.

Riolu jumps over the fence after you and places its paws on you, soothing the pain.

Ceil HP 10/10
Riolu HP 23/25

You pick Riolu up and place him in your side pouch to test out the next step. Heading out of the alley and onto the main street, you quickly glance around to see if there is anyone nearby. Seeing that the coast is clear, you aim down the street, towards the edge of town. It should be about 5 blocks away you think. You inhale sharply, then lunge.

>Ceil HP 4/10

You recover once again, but this time you aren't as quick. That might just be due to how much it took out of you though. Looking into your pouch, you see Riolu, you leaps out, but stumbles a bit as he hits the ground. Seems you can take people with you, but it makes them a bit dizzy.

Finding yourself on the edge of town, you decide to head a bit of a ways into the forest to try out something else. You go for a long horizontal slash at a thick looking tree.

(cont)
>>
The blade makes very little sound as it impacts, though it bites deep. You'd estimate it went around double its width, maybe going a third of the way through the tree. It slides out almost effortlessly, to your surprise.

You back up and attempt the same with a thrust. Once again, there isn't much noise as you do so, and the blade slides into the tree almost all the way to the hilt, smoothly dislodging afterwards.

At least you don't need to worry about getting your blade stuck in things.

You ask Riolu to heal you up one last time before you try one more thing.

>Ceil HP 10/10

>Riolu HP 20/25

After he hops back in your pouch, you head down the street to decrease the distance, before visualizing your room and trying to teleport to it.

>Ceil HP 9/10

The result is you standing on the ground outside of your house, below the window of your room. It seems that you can't move through walls using this, but it also won't leave you floating in the air. It was able to get you over that fence earlier though, so maybe it's fine as long as there's a path along a surface.

Heading inside, you go upstairs to your room, setting aside your gear in a corner. You set up more cushions for Froakie and Bagon, in addition to the one Riolu was using. In the next few moments, you sink quickly into sleep, glad to be back in your own bed.

-----------------------

>Ceil HP 10/10
>Riolu Hp 25/25

The next morning, you wake up with the sun. As you get out of bed andbegin getting dressed, you notice that Riolu has once again woken up earlier than you. Froakie wakes up as you step out of bed, while Bagon continues to sleep heavily in the corner. You head downstairs to look for Riolu, Froakie jumping up on your shoulder as you head out the door.

You find him once again out back, practicing his kicks and strikes on the trees. He runs up to you once he sees you, nuzzling your leg. You head back in for breakfast, and it seems Bagon had wandered downstairs while you were gone. Breakfast is simple once again, being mostly fish and toast. The three all seem to be fine with the spread, though you note Bagon doesn't touch the bread at all, instead opting to consume all the fish you lay out for him. You pass a bit extra his way, just to make sure he has enough to eat.

You decide to go visit Jean. It isn't too early in the morning, and their shop should be open. Also, with the blockade going on, you didn't have to worry about them being too busy.

Then again, that's not a good thing.

Even the market streets are empty as you approach. Several stalls lie abandoned, and though the rest have vendors, they aren't calling out to advertise their wares, and there isn't anyone for them to call out to.

Once you arrive at the smithy, you push open the door, scanning the room. You spy Jean's familiar form slumped over the counter. His Growlithe is lying on the ground nearby, though it perks up and starts barking happily once it sees you.

Jean lifts his head and glances in your direction, then his eyes light up and a grin sneaks onto his face.

"So it seems you took my advice," he says as he strides over, "You didn't get yourself killed after all."

"Well, I tried not to," you reply.

"I'm sure you did," he smirks, slapping a hand on your back, "It's been pretty boring around here with you and Lisa gone. How's that going by the way?"

"I haven't heard anything about that," you reply. No sense blabbing about it to everyone.

"Hmm," he ponders, "Must just be rumors then."

"By the way," you ask, "Have you heard anything about those fruit that could hold monsters inside them? I noticed it in the market before I left, but I didn't get any."

"I saw some of those around a couple weeks ago," he explains, "Though there weren't a lot. I think only a dozen people who are actually from here bought them."

"Do you know where I can find them?"

"Who knows?" he shrugs, "With all the blockade stuff going on, they might have just skipped town. Plus I doubt anyone would be willing to sell them off right now when they can't get more."

"Right," you continue, "I was also wondering if you've got any armor that would be good for me and my friends?"

"Well," he says, glancing down at the three creatures, "I noticed that you managed to pick up a breastplate somewhere, an your tiny wolf friend has some leathers as well. Quality looks fine on those. I don't have any leather for your frog, but your friend with the helmet might be a different story."

Hey crouches down on the ground, gently prodding at Bagon, getting sense for where his scales are thicker.

"I think I can set something simple up for this one," he states, "A simple curved piece to cover the thinner sections on his stomach, as well as a bit of extra reinforcement on the straps that would go across his back. That should help complement the protection of his skull. His scales are also thick enough that there won't even be too much discomfort."

"How much would it be?"

"Only around forty. It's not a very complex piece. That'd mostly just be material costs."

"Great," Jean smiles, "I'll go heat up the forge and get it hammered out for you. Should be done by this afternoon."

"I'll see you later then," you nod, taking your leave.

Next, you decide to go see Lisa. It's only been a day since you got back, and you want to check and make sure she's adjusting fine. You're still not sure if you want to tell her about the plans with the blockade though.

You knock on the door of the house, waiting a moment until it swings open. Lisa's mother smiles as she greets you.

"Good morning Ceil," she grins, "If you're looking for Lisa, she's out back doing target practice."

After thanking her, you move through the building and out the back door. The yard is smaller than the one at your house, but still fairly sizable. You spot Lisa at one end, firing arrows into a bale of hay with a roughly painted bullseye on it. She fires off five arrows, and you watch as her Pidgeotto swoops down to remove them from the hay, then drops them down to sentret, who scurries over with the bundle. After she reaches down to grab them, she glances back up and sees you. She then starts waving you over.

At this point, it's mainly a matter of using what you have and making sure everything is in the right place.

For example, while you could take all of your pokemon with you while teleporting if you had enough pockets, it might be more helpful to have them elsewhere. I'll ask about that sort of stuff as it comes up though.
