Welcome to the XXXI installment of "Disney Villains Victorious."

Disney Villains Victorious is a new /tg/ homebrew project based on the idea of a world, not entirely unlike our own, in which all the villains from all the Disney animated feature films were not defeated at the ends of their movies but were instead victorious, completing their goals in part or in whole.

It is a world in which Ursula rules the seas, defied only by the uncatchable Pirate Lords, the cutthroat merchants of the East India Trading Company and the might of Atlantis and its magitech-toting mercenaries. It is a world where the grasslands and jungles and forests are prowled not only by fearsome primal beasts like Shere Kahn and Scar but also by the ruthless, tireless hunters that stalk them. It is a world where Europe has been divvied up between evil sorcerous monarchs like Maleficent, the Horned King, Grimhilde and Jafar, mad, inquisitorial clergymen like Frollo, and Dark Gods like Hades and Chernobog.

It is not, however, a world completely devoid of courage, heroism or hope. Around the world, the PCs' characters and their allies plot and plan, fight and strive and win their own victories against the villains that would rule them. The time to fight and to be free is now.

So now that the dust has settled, I think we can all agree that Imperial Atlantis are the good guys of the setting.
>>
>>36244605

The good guys of the setting are the underdogs and the heroes, I don't think any Kings qualify as good

Rourke is Neutral are best

Elsa might be good, but she's despairing in Arrendelle and she's neutral until it stops
>>
Sorry to mention this early in the new thread, but I'm making an IRC room for discussing how a magic expansion would work. We'll work on it alongside the main project, and aside from periodically mentioning it, we won't bother any of you with it. From this point on, anyone trying to start arguments about magic PCs should join the IRC or stop being a faggot. Feel free to take a look if you're curious about what we may be doing, even if you don't want magic. We're working on it before the system's finished so it can be integrated more easily. Otherwise, it might not mesh as well. Room is #DVVmagic on the suptg server. Google how to use IRC, because replies to this post will not be responded to for fear of starting a flame war.
>>
These threads need more Gaston.
>>
>>36244694
We had a lot of him a couple of threads ago when we discussed his daughter.
>>
>>36244686

Well, that's surprisingly civil. That sounds good.

When we are done with the core game and start working on the expansions we can, maybe, put our differences aside and work together
>>
>>36244605

They might not be the "Good Guys" of the setting, per say, as they are still lead by Imperial President Rourke and are militaristic and mercenary by nature, but they are far from a malicious people, and have a lot of good guys among them, including the members of the original Atlantean Expedition as stabilizing members of Rourke's core government and Kidagakrystal acting as a positive influence over all her people, old and new.

They might not be the "Good Guys," but they are the guys poised to do the most potential good in the setting if the player characters can help them see the electric blue light.
>>
>>36244724
That's the general idea. Shame nobody's joined the room yet. Only 5 people in the thread, though.

I'd like to start this off with a rewrite of the Horned King's KLR:

King: Horned King - Ruthless, truly evil, cruel, cunning, abusive, murderous, insane, dark, power-hungry, misanthropic, hegemonic, megalomaniacal and terrifying. Those are the words that describe the Horned King, ruler of Prydain. Victorious, he sits on his thrown, savoring the suffering of his subjects. He takes from the Prydani not for the sake of him having, but for the sake of them NOT having. By pillage and murder, he has not only hoarded to himself all the weapons, works of art, lore, music and technology of Prydain, but all knowledge of them and the secrets of their making as well. His both a mighty warrior and a notable sorcerer, though he prefers to let his minions do all the heavy lifting.
>>
>>36244786
May I ask what was wrong with my original write-up?
>>
File: Horned_King.jpg (20 KB, 350x350)
20 KB
20 KB JPG
>>36244786
Land: Prydain - thin sickly green haze covers the lands of the Horned King. This emanates from the Black Cauldron, and reanimates anything that dies on the soil as one of the skeletal Cauldron Born. The Cauldron Born feel no pain or fear or mercy, do not need water or food or sleep, and they never question orders because they possess no soul or memory of who they were in life. If 'killed', they will eventually resurrect; an invading army will have to be wary that their dead will only increase the number of foes they must face, and that without Dyrnwyn, those Cauldron Born they have slain will resurrect, slowly encircling them. The mist itself saps the will, dulls the soul and slows healing, causing will points and strikes to be regained at half their natural rates. Empty cairns, dug-up graves and excavation pits dot the landscape, making for something of a trip hazard. Perhaps more importantly, new gravedigging operations are widespread and the living humans of Prydain are terrified of their overlord. Cauldron Born gravediggers will alert their master of the presence of adventurers, and Prydani do not make for trusty secret-keepers without true hope. They will likely find a way to inform the Horned King or Madam Mim of the adventurers' presence. Another thing one will notice is that not only is there hardly anything beautiful to be found in Prydain; but the people have access to little craft: the smiths, hideworkers, carpenters and masons are kept tightly under the Horned King's thumb, and he allows no other crafts to exist. The farmers themselves possess barely enough agricultural technology to feed all the hungry mouths.

>>36244686

Thank you for your trouble, and your work to keep everyone happy and the ball rolling.
>>
>>36244798
Not much, it just neglected to mention how the Horned King deprives his people of craft, technology, lore, music and art.

>>36244819
Rule: The Horned King's reaction to the players will depend on a number of factors. If they appear to bear nothing of value and be no threat, he will not waste his time with them. If they bring with them anything of great power or value, especially rare or one of a kind items, he will send a dozen Gwythaints to acquire it; those who come bearing technology or knowledge are often 'acquired' themselves. If they have felled so much as a single king or otherwise appear a threat (for instance, by carrying Dyrnwyn or Excalibur), he will likely throw everything he has at them: great armies of Cauldron Born, Mad Madam Mim, human servants seeking his favour, and huge flights of Gwythaints.

Like this Anon says, there was a good deal of Gaston several threads back while we were discussion the possibility of Belle giving birth to a bastard daughter of the Beast, which resulted in the girl:

1. Being kept in the cellar as a family secret from Belle and the world as she bore Gaston's sons and have him the family he wants. She is still there and starved for love and attention.

Or

2. Being raised (presumably) by the surviving enchanted objects in the ruins of the Beast's castle and who's difficult birth was the cause of Belle's later inability to bear Gaston children.
>>
>>36244965

The "she" bearing Gaston's sons in option one still being Belle, not the beastling incase that was unclear.
>>
>>36244686
Keep in mind, it won't be going in the core game. It doesn't jive well enough with the already established rules and is likely going to need a LOT of playtesting to be balanced, so sticking with the expansion route would be best.

A reminder that the second playtest of DVV happens at 4:30PM EST today, or in four hours and twenty minutes! Feel free to attend.
>>
>>36245075
Of course not. Keeping it as an expansion is the entire point of doing it outside the threads. That and keeping out of the way of any of our more aggressive magic-haters. And I intend to spend as much time as I can looking for a way to mesh it with our current rules as well as possible.
>>
>>36244965
Also, I think it was decided that part of her personality was a desire for love due to wanting to cure herself of her curse. She isn't actually cursed, Beast's genes were just altered while he was so his kid ended up being like him permanently.
>>
>>36245125

Right. Clarisse, as someone named her, might naturally be starved for affection in either of the two scenarios, and may learn of the curse her father was afflicted by either through old storybooks she'd been given down in that basement cell, or by the enchanted objects that helped raise her. It wouldn't be a great leap of the imagination for her to believe that she'd been struck by the same curse, and is somewhat desperately and hopelessly looking for a cure as she's chased hither and yon by hunters or the Inquisition.

I really liked the idea of her not actually being cursed, but just beastly by nature, because it presents the PCs with the chance to either help her understand an important life lesson about accepting who you are outside and in, or be forced to deal with a rampaging beast in the throws of a crushing disappointment.

How come there are apparently 56 people in the old thread? I don't get this new system for counting posters.
>>
>>36245389
Total individual posters. People flooded in after the wizards left.
>>
It means that 56 separate people have posted in that thread as of the time that you saw that number. Compared to here where only nine people have posted in the thread (Though it'll be 10 now, as this is my first post in the thread)

I'm going to have to use this format to rework some example characters I was working on too. The last few times I've messed them up when it came to distributing skill points.
>>
>>36245925
Ten skill points to distribute at start; every character gets one skill rank at least automatically due to their class, and some beast species get a rank in a skill.

Skills start at 3, and move up one at a time; 3-4-5-6 is as far as you can get at character creation.
>>
>>36244781
Only problem I see with the character sheet is it has nowhere to mark Strikes and doesn't list Will points. Fixed now.

Perhaps they have the most potential and power, but conversely they have the most responsibility. Responsibilities they'll likely shirk.

The Atlantean emperor thought he could use the crystals power for good too, as a weapon to bring his empire and civilization to the world, and look where it brought Atlantis the first time.

I have no doubt that with Rourke and the crews greed and ambition at the head of this, very little stands in the way of them repeating history.

Don't forget the Crystal is sentient and demands a host of royal blood. What's going to happen when it finds out the royal line has been killed off?

>>36246784
Does "royal blood" need to mean a King of Atlantis?
>Arthur gives up the throne of England to Taran, and proceeds to become the host of the Crystal
>>
>>36246784
>Don't forget the Crystal is sentient and demands a host of royal blood. What's going to happen when it finds out the royal line has been killed off?

In this setting, by the time Rourke and his mercenaries had taken Atlantis and its Heart, Kidagakash was already united with the Crystal, and the two have become one. Kida is the Heart and the Heart is Kida, and while she does power almost the entirety of Atlantis' military might, she also visits her people in their dreams, whispers in their ears and helps protect them through the crystals they wear.
>>
>>36246974
What's her opinion on Rourke's men and Rourke himself? Does she influence him? Does he resist her influence, since he thinks it's just his own guilty conscience? Does Rourke even feel guilty? Behind all the press releases and the inspiring speeches, what's Rourke like nowadays? After all, he got his win condition, so what does he want now?
>>
>>36246847

They did all join the expedition for money, but none of them expected that the expedition would involve dooming a culture to extinction. Though it did take Milo's courage in speaking out against Rourke to inspire the group to fight back, they were all uncomfortable with what they were doing, and there's nothing to say that they don't still carry misgivings about what they'd done in our setting. Though they, and even Milo went along with Rourke's plans for Atlantis due to the nature of the DVV world, they've all got consciences down there somewhere, and I feel would still temper Rourke's megalomania somewhat.
>>
>>36246974
Ah I wasn't aware. The movie stated that the Crystal fed off the collective emotions of all Atlanteans (dead or alive) and had formed a consciousness of its own. To me it seemed implied when it absorbed the kings of the past, or Kida's mother, it absorbed their individuality into its own consciousness as well. To Kida retain her individuality, even control over the crystal, would put her in quite the position of power to enact real change.

>>36247023
Perhaps then with Kida (or the Crystal) could influence Rourke and his crew to think for the better of Atlantis, to not repeat the same mistake. She might even be doing it right now.

But then again, the converse is also true, the Crystal feeds on and is influenced by the emotions of her people.

And if the peoples hearts are corrupt, so too might become the crystal.

Who knows really, it's all so very interesting.
>>
>>36247112
>hough they, and even Milo went along with Rourke's plans for Atlantis due to the nature of the DVV world, they've all got consciences down there somewhere, and I feel would still temper Rourke's megalomania somewhat.
Milo went along with them eh? How did the whole atlantean story go down in this setting?

Sorry if this is in the pastebin somewhere, I just want to learn as much about the setting as I can.
>>
>>36247181
Ironically, I think this is one of those BIG SETTING EVENTS that was never properly written down.
Roarke talked down Milo and the gang, took the crystal topside and WW1 had started, if i recall properly. He decided to form his own united states and pacify the world, allying with the Virginia Colony.
>>
>>36247118

That's been considered one of the essential differences between the Imperial Republic of Atlantis and most of the other nations in the DVV world: despite Rourke declaring himself Imperial President and setting up his own government, Princess Kidagakash, the true and rightful ruler of Atlantis and now its Crystal Heart was never defeated as the rulers of other nations were, and still has a very real and very positive affect on her people.
>>
>>36247233
What happened to the original atlanteans down there? Did they all die?

>He decided to form his own united states and pacify the world, allying with the Virginia Colony
I see. To me he felt more like the type who'd rather sell's power like a big power plant and make a lot of money, but this is even more interesting (maybe Kida's doing).

I heard a while ago that Chernobog messed up the timeline, so you have the East Indies company alongside Rourke and his WW1 Mercenaries. That change in politics also likely made him reconsider just selling it off.

>>36247233

I think you're right, as the concept of Atlantis going topside with their hybrid Crystal/WWI fantasy technology was one of the very first things fleshed out in the earliest threads.

>>36247181

Essentially, the movie plays as it was animated, but with the rest of the DVV world existing there as a backdrop for the action. Instead of simply taking Kidagakrystal up to the surface to sell her off the the highest bidder, Rourke has the foresight to realize that a whole and hale Atlantis, with its golems and shields and their subs and airships and the Heart intact was worth SO much more than what any one Villain could ever give him. Milo and the other original Expedition members who had misgivings were convinced that Rourke was right, and working together they managed to raise Atlantis to the surface and establish the Imperial Republic of Atlantis as a modern, independent nation and safe haven for refugees from around the world.

>>
>>36247338

One of the original thematic selling points of the Imperial Republic is that its culture can be described as "Atlantean Americana," where Expedition members and refugees have mixed and married with the original Atlantean population to produce a rather diverse population.

For instance, one character that's done up in a lot of fluff is a mechanic girl named Mahrikatohka "Mary" Smith, the daughter of an original Expedition motorpool driver and an Atlantean woman.

>>
>>36247717
Depends on how big the party is. Point taken, though.
>>
>>36247842
Way I see it, Lackeys are basically the enemy equivalent of the Combat Monster, with a Prevent Harm bonus of +15(coming out to Defense 25) and an attack roll bonus of +16. This is roughly the equivalent of Sverd when he's not using any of his Powers, so more than one should only be used if there's more than one combat monster in a party, because on average they'll strike twice on a player character before being defeated due to having 2 strikes.
>>
Where'd all the wizards from last thread go? Dammit, I finally do something to accommodate them and get started on optional magic out of everyone else's way, and then they disappear.
>>
>>36247906
It sounds like one single Lackey should be the leader of a big group of weaker enemies, not like encounters should be made of several Lackeys, right?

they were only here to ruin the balance arguments bia shitposting and get upset because namefags were actually contributing and wanted an easy target to attack. im sure you want actual magic, and I appreciate that but most of the supporters last thread were trolls, so it's all up to you.
>>
>>36247955
Yeah, that's the idea. But they're not going to be leading groups of five mooks because in that case you'd be prompted to have multiple squads of lackey+mooks, and more than one lackey is going to be absolutely butt-fucking terrifying. I think seven mooks to a lackey is a fair comparison for a group of 3 players, 9 for 4, and 11 for 5.
>>
>>36247988
Still, getting started would be nice. I mean, I have ideas, but until others get here, I can't get them judged. Unless you guys wouldn't mind hearing about them, but then the Inquisition might come and get here.
The IRC room's still open, if you don't want to discuss it in the thread.
>>
>>36248026
I'm catching up with the rules and mooks seem to be really weak. One lackey and 10 mooks should be a challengind encounter for a normal group of 4 pcs.
>>
>>36244686
I may not be the best person to talk about such things, not really having paid attention to the mechanics being thrown about, though I HAVE seen people arguing about if magic should or shouldn't be in.
A question I had was...why not just let magic be fluff for a power/trait/whatever? Pulling up the Traits pastebin...'Trusssst in Me' could easily be fluffed as magical influency spells, 'Bamboo Technology' could be conjuring instead of making stuff out of junk, 'Are You Scared' gets you their fear via magic instead of reading them, 'Achilles' Heel' does similar (or maybe makes such a weakness?), etc.
>>
>>36248095
Mooks are supposed to be weak. But, due to how we've changed weapon skills, they should score a Strike on the average PC (assuming stat is 9 in either robustness or agility and they are wearing medium armor) roughly 40% of the time, so ten of them is going to make life very, very difficult and someone dead if the PCs go below 50% accuracy on them. It doesn't help that a Lackey in this case hits the average PC ~70% of the time and is incredibly difficult to hit (sub 30%) for a non combat monster character, and four characters can only get out 8 strikes a turn if they hit every attack. After people have some Lessons, they'd be able to take it sure, but starting characters would get mulched. An encounter with mooks should have some possibility of failure but is basically a formality -- the PCs, barring improbably bad luck, are likely to come out intact. As it stands, an encounter of 10 mooks + 1 lackey would kill ~1.3 PCs on average.
>>
>>36248103
That's exactly what I thought magic should be. Powers and traits that could be explained as magic, but could also be explained as technology or spirits or just luck. A while back, somebody suggested a spell that gave one enemy a -5 to hit. This could be a magical flare of light in front of their eyes, or it could be a flashbang grenade, or it could just be the sun reflecting off of something and temporarily blinding them. Although most of the way magic would work would be via items. A magic item would have a certain number of "charges" of a spell per day. For example, Atlantean crystals allowing limited healing and contact to the Crystal Heart, and the Serpent Staff used by Jafar giving hypnotism. I was also thinking of crunching up some Alchemy, and possibly the results. I'm seeing creating firebombs as a fairly balanced way for blasty characters to exist, since that way they could contribute to the whole party by letting them do the blasting instead. Alchemists spent too long studying and being exposed to toxic fumes to learn to throw shit, they'd just blow themselves up.

-5 is too much. People agreed on -2 or -3, IIRC, which is the equivalent of -1d6. -5 is nearly -2d6.

We already have creating firebombs as a Smart Guy power, you may want to check it out and balance it against that. In fact, one of the Smart Guy's design archetypes is Alchemist/Chemist, with the others being Mechanic and Professor.

Magic items with charges has my approval if they're hard to get and mostly in the possession of Inner Circles and up. Stealing them would be a good plot mechanic.
>>
>>36248250
-3 works. And where the hell are these design archetypes everyone keeps talking about?
>>
>>36248282
Didn't we....?
Oh fuck, we never wrote them down, did we?
Okay, so there are 3 archetypes for each class that are semi-based on disney characters.

For the Strong Guy we had the Knight, a rider and melee fighter, the Soldier, a heavily armored foot-soldier, and the Brawler/Champion.

For the Agile guy we had the Thief, the Sharpshooter, and the Acrobat.

For the Intelligent guy we had the Alchemist, the Professor, and the Mechanic.

For the Sensible guy we were kind of lacking, and I don't think we ever decided on these. We had the Doctor, the Wise woman/man, and the Priest.

For the Charming guy we had the Musician, the Rogue, and the Diplomat. Somebody else has the Disney characters they match to, I'm sure.
>>
>>36248352
None of those are written down anywhere.
Still, me and anyone wanting to stat magic can work on the Wise Man (I'm thinking of calling them Shaman) and the Alchemist.
>>
>>36248390
They were frequently mentioned back in threads 10-19. We haven't really mentioned them much since.
If they use magic, it should be subtle since IIRC that one was based on Mama Odie from The Princess and The Frog.
>>
>>36248417
Subtle works. We can divide up the various main things a "wizard" is MEANT to b doing between them. Shamans are for subtle magic, often utility-based. Alchemists are more blasty, but still not on the same level as Jafar or Ursula. Mainly because Jafar and Ursula can do either of those and more.
>>
>>36248352
Okay, we have a LOT more crunch to do if that's the case. I'd say we give each of those individual abilities, to allow for these options to stand out as individuals rather than the same flavours of ice cream in a different shaped cone.
>>
>>36248417
>>36248451
>>36248390

>Shaman

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Kekata, the medicine man from Pocahontas yet
>>
>>36248451
For some ideas on Alchemy: Create powers that let you use Craft or Occult for various skills, because Alchemists will likely be using Craft+Occult as their main skills. No More Chinese Laundry is their main blasting power, since it lets them pull together explosives given time and use them as they see fit. Create Traits that give bonuses to throwing things. Alchemists don't conjure fireballs, they create highly reactive liquids and put them into glass vials to throw at things. If you really must have magical potions, make sure they give bonuses less potent than Music, which really needs a buff since it's only +2 for now given that you can prep them before hand.

>>36248506
They do have individual abilities. Each of the class powers is configured towards one of them. Don't be daft, if someone wants to make their own archetype, they should be able to mix-n-match from different pools of Traits and Powers. The archetypes aren't actual classes, they're one of the three main branches you can take the class on, and you don't have to go all the way down that path.
>>
>>36248250

What if those magical items were at the end of a long and potentially dangerous quest, say? Like looking for a weapon string enough to take down a Villain King?

>>
>>36248535
Well, that's an individual quest and would likely fall under the purview of each individual GM. But if you want to make them, go for it but they'll almost CERTAINLY be in the hands of a Villain because they would have taken it from their subordinates, or a King because they took it from the Villains.
>>

EST. 50 minutes from now. Why?
>>
>>36248532
If we're going to be statting this sort of thing, then we ought to be discussing this in the IRC room. After all, this is what our "magic" is, so we ought to be statting it in the designated "magic" statting area. Again, we're on the suptg IRC network (irc.thisisnotatrueending.com on 6667) and the room is #DVVmagic.
>>
>>36248585
For some reason the campaign page on roll20 gives me 1:30AM WEST as the time. Weird.

>>36244683
I like the idea of a corrupted Elsa. Hear me out on this: Anna jumped in front of Hans' sword, but didn't freeze in time, so Hans stabbed her, killing her. Elsa saw Hans' lies for what they were, and killed him with her powers. This betrayal caused her to snap, becoming a tyrant who wants to keep anyone from leaving her again.
>>
>>36248640
we did. nob is saying its an incredibly weak bonus for someone's entire contribution to combat, which it is.
>>
>>36248585
I'd love to play, but frankly I haven't played tabletop since high school and my mic is broken is it ok if I spectate?
>>
>>36248932
Feel free to play if you want, we are playing by text not by mic, and I'd love a beginner/outsiders perspective
>>
>>36248869

Just because Elsa isn't corrupted doesn't make Arendelle any less dangerous, and keeping her neutral, trending toward good. I liked the idea from threads passed that Elsa's goodness but grief-stricken madness keeps her from being just another standard BBEG to kill and be done with.
>>
>>36248585
I'm getting a weird eta in roll20 as well. It says that it's not starting till 6:30. I'm good to play in 20 if that's what's happening

Regarding Music.

Does the +2 applies to everyone in the party? And how long does it last?

Because if a character can use one of his Moves to grant everyone a +2 to every attack they make during that Round, well, that's a lot of plusses.

Hey, should Mooks get only one Move per Round, instead of two like the Players?

Because that would make them easier to deal with, both for the Players and for the Game Master.
>>
>>36249243
Just give them some utility, like lights and levitation and bonuses.
>>36249256
Seems too much. What if we change music's bonus from +2 to +1 but make it last longer?
>>
>>36249297
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

FUCK OFF

Ok, sorry about that, but reducing music's power is a TERRIBLE idea.

I'm writing more songs now.
>>
>>36249297

>Seems too much. What if we change music's bonus from +2 to +1 but make it last longer?

Let's not go crazy here: +1 is too low to be someone's main strategy.

And shit, are we really doing magic now?
>>
>>36249195
Okay, let me clarify;
We're starting in 20 minutes, with 5 of those minutes being waiting for people to assemble.

>>36249243
Just fluff it like I'm Gonna Need You To Fill These from the Sensible Guy power list.

>>36249256
Music applies to everyone in the party who can hear it to one skill of the players choice. It lasts until they STOP PLAYING, which is important because attacking usually breaks a musical performance. +2 to everyone in the party is okay, but +3 would make more sense because that player is giving up the ability to Strike for more bonuses.

Mooks only get one action a round. I'm pretty sure Lackeys only get one but we never clarified, Inner Circle and above get 3+ actions a round, with bonus actions being handed out in ways we're not sure yet (we want them to be a credible threat to multiple people).
>>
>>36249372
I've invited people to join an IRC room if they want to discuss it, so we don't piss off the Inquisition. Apparently, some people didn't get the memo.
>>
>>36249360
Oh, speaking of songs. I wrote up a little ditty for Lazarus last night. It's nothing special, but I figured I'd post it.
They Cynic's Way (to the tune of "The Shores of Botany Bay"

BOXIN' LAZARUS:
Farewell to your rules and customs, farewell to your dirty lies
Farewell to luxuries and feasts, and to hell with your sacrifice
I'll throw off all your trifles, and not a dime I'll pay
I'll break your yoke, and put on my cloak to be off on the Cynic's way

My youth was spent a-boxing, training all day long
A bullock on each shoulder and in my heart a song,
I never once suspected that I would ever say
"I don't want your prize or any other of your lies, I'll be on the Cynic's way"

[Chorus]

I met a weary traveler when fightin in the games
He told me of young Hercules, a man who'll live in fame
When I heard of all his noble deeds, I knew I'd gone astray
So those words I spoke, and I donned my cloak and was off on the Cynics Way

[Chorus]

I'll finish what Herc started and free the Gods below
I'll tear Hell's gates asunder, for Hades is my foe
And though I'm only mortal, I'll join in the affray
I'll suffer any strive to live a virtuous life: That's the Cynic's Way

[Chorus]
>>
>>36249379

>It lasts until they STOP PLAYING

Let's make it last until the end of the Round instead, so the musician is left with another Move to attack with.

And I just assumed Lackeys would get two Moves, just like the Players. Maybe we can take away that, which would make them quite weaker without lowering their bonuses.
>>
>>36249360

If you are still looking for song ideas, what about a song based on:
>>36245125
And
>>36245309

About Clarisse's awkward, bull in a china shop pursuit of love and companionship?

PS: I agree about keeping songs strong.
>>
>>36249400
To be fair to the inquisitors, their paranoia isn't entirely unfounded. The relative lack of activity in the IRC should demonstrate that at least a little bit of the wizard based agitation was people trying to start shit.

Not that I'm saying magic should be completely out. I actually like the idea of adding in basic magic as a sort of mini-expansion; its just that with Nob's well known anti-magic stance it tends to rile both sides up very quickly.
>>
>>36249420
I've never heard that song, but that looks pretty damn good to me.

>>36249446
First I'm just gonna do a quick work on 'A Girl worth Fighting For', but I'll probably write a song about Clarisse afterwards. I did already write that one song about Gaston cursing her for being a beast a while back.
>>
>>36249446
I second this song request
>>
>>36249458
True. Still, there are people talking about magic in the thread when we can do it in an IRC and avoid starting shit. It just seems sensible to take the safer option that won't derail the thread.
>>
>>36249438
Normally, I'd agree, but this is disney so most music is like a song-and-dance number, and finding time to strike during that might be difficult. If we want people to use magic in combat and still strike, we should give the Charming Guy a better power than Rock Will Never Die, like allowing them to use music offensively somehow.

>>36249458
Can't sleep, wizards will get me.
to think that joke started a shitstorm last thread...
>>
>>36249438

And maybe musicians should be able to give their +2 not only to one single Skill, but to attacks and defenses as well.

Not all together, of course: when they start playing they choose if the bonus is for one Skill, for every Attack or for every Defense.

See, this way they shouldn't have to choose which party members to boost and which to not boost.
>>
>>36249487
There's lots of covers on it, but this one's my personal favorite
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yke5agKwNrQ
>>
>>36249505
Music, not magic. My bad.

>>36249513
Keep in mind for every 5 they exceed TN20 by the boost goes up by +1. Giving it to all defenses and all attacks is a bit much.
>>
>>36249505

>but this is disney so most music is like a song-and-dance number, and finding time to strike during that might be difficult.

Not really: singing and fucking people up at the same time is perfectly Disney.

I mean, when they start singing, in a Disney movie, they don't stop doing what they were doing: they keep moving forward the plot, but now with music.
>>
Posting my character for the session here

Cassio White

Human Smart Guy/Medium

ROBUSTNESS: 7/12
Agility: 9/12
Intelligence: 10/12
Sensibility: 8/12
Charm: 6/12

Skills

Ranged 3
Occult 3 (4 for Smart Guy bonus)
Craft 5
Prevent Harm 5
Science 4

Powers:

No More Chinese Laundry: Spend a Will point to assemble an explosive from everyday materials. Must have something on hand that could concievably explode -- can't just magic bombs out of thin air. Coconuts okay. At the end of the round you have at least one pound of highly unstable explosive material that will miraculously not go off in your hands. We'll leave it to you as to what to do with it.

How Did I Miss That?: Spend one action to examine your surroundings and battle. Identify one crippling disadvantage or faulty location on the surroundings or your enemies. +2 for the party on the next combat roll targetting that point on your enemies, or cause a benefitial field advantage if interacting with the location

Traits:

-Trust me, I'm a Doctor
+2 on Science, Occult, and Academics if you can somehow explain how your character knows this particular subject.

-Heart of Prometheus
+3 to all rolls involving Occult and Crafting simultaneously.

-Bamboo Technology
+4 to Crafting rolls when you have no tools or materials appropriate for what you're trying to do.

Weakness

Mirror Mark: Living under Queen Grimhilde's rule, Cassio scarred himself years ago to avoid being taken away. An ugly white scar runs from above his right eyebrow, through his nose bridge, towards the left side of his mouth. -4 towards Persuasion rolls.

-Ideals

Always have a plan

Improvisation is an art, and you'd like to be an artist

Using fear to manipulate people's lives is disgusting
>>
>>36249543

>Keep in mind for every 5 they exceed TN20 by the boost goes up by +1.

But should it? And if it should, let's just cap it at +3 so it can't break the math too much.

Also, I repeat, it' not attacks and defenses at the same time: it's just so they don't have to choose between Melee, Ranged and Persuasion when their party members are all attacking with different Skills.

Because, really, singing just so you can boost the attacks of one guy is pretty sad and totally not Disney,
>>
We should condense some of these rules into a single document, at least enough of them for character creation.
>>
>>36249554
>>36249619
Fair enough. Music still feels too weak given it's prominence in pretty much every disney work, and granting it to every defense would quickly create characters that can only compete via a backline musician providing them with a rock-off, which sounds incredible but would quickly become boring.

>>36249622
1d4chan.
>>
>>36249597

-Goals

Zero: Teach people living in fear to stand up for themselves with the power of smarts, balls of steel, and the ocasional explosion

On-A-Roll: Obtain a full understanding of at least one type of magic in the New World

Hero: Topple Queen Grimhilde in favor of someone that would not keep the citizens in fear, and forced to scar themselves

Equipment

Crossbow (+3 to ranged, takes two actions to reload)
A tollbox (Contains a sturdy roll of string, flint and steel, and the usual small time tools)
Traveling Cape (+1 to endure the elements)
>>
>>36249622

>>
Just so you know, the playtest should be going on right now. Get in there.
>>
>>36249674
I'm saying this as a result of the playtest, not as a theoretical idea; Music was so weak that it got used twice in total, and didn't really change much which may be due to the low defenses at that period in time.
>>
>>36245493
Where do you guys get this information?
>>
>>36249706

But now we are making it stronger.

Musician would only use half their Round to play and they could now give the +2 to every attack or every defense. That's huge.
>>
>>36249749
+2 is tiny. It's not even +1d6, which is +3.5. If someone is building their entire character around this, it shouldn't be so incredibly weak.
>>
The Playtest only has three people in it and no one from the last playtest. Join it if you wanna see how our more brutal alpha works firsthand.
>>
>>36249797
I would, but I haven't built a character yet.
>>
>>36249817

Well then, get to it and hop in
>>
>>36249817
Character creation isn't exactly difficult. The party could use a strong or nimble guy, so just throw one together and make it up as you go.
>>
>>36249792

A +2 it's a lot in a 3d6 system. I mean, last time we all argued for hours over even smaller numbers.

But we could make it so they can increase their bonus to +3 by reaching TN 25. Which would also be a cap, because higher than that and it's get crazy.
>>
>>36249835
I'm throwing together a nimble guy now
>>
>>36249865
Except it's not 3d6, it's 4d6k3 in the vast majority of combat situations beause you're attacking with your primary attribute, and it's going to get worse as people tier up to 5d6k3 and 4d6k3 on every roll.
>>
>>36249797
I've clicked on Join Game five minutes ago and it's still loading. Is this normal?
>>
>>36249940
Nope. Reload.
>>
>>36249940
It crashed, try reloading.
>>
>>36249886

That only raises the average roll, which makes the +2 less important for combat focused guys but still huge for characters that may have problem reliably hitting mooks. And that's good.

But if you think it's too low, let's just do a new poll for it.

Numbers aside, are the other rules okay with you?

"One Move to use, affects all the party, lasts until the musician's next Turn and it can be applied to one Skill, to attacks or to defenses".

Idea on an origin for pixies and dwarves, and why they're separate from the rest of the fae, and where the whole KLR thing comes from:
There are many different species of Fae, but the ones relevant to this fluff are the Elves like Maleficent and her followers, the Dwarves and the Pixies. At the beginning of time, there were guys called the First Kings who each cast gained control over a piece of the Earth that they'd essentially get to go full Fisher King over. When the First Kings cast their spells to control their pieces of the Earth, the Elven High Queen at the time took an interest in the proceedings, and decided she wanted to forge a similar pact, thus gaining a piece of the Mortal Realm for all fae whilst gaining more control for her species over all others. But while she was able to persuade most of the other leaders of the Fae, the Faerie Queen of the free-spirited Pixies and the Underking of the stubborn Dwarves refused to bow to any but their own and to Walt, who still walked the Earth at that time, guiding all his children in the universe he had made. (Chernabog hadn't fucked everything up yet.) So they forged their own paths in the world, and are as such not influenced by Maleficent's evil.

>>36252270
>>36252296
Look, be as paranoid as you want. The point is, you need to explain why this stuff is here. Don't just handwave it as "Oh, they're kind of just there. That's just the way it is. It just works." That only makes things boring.
>>
>>36252339

Lots of new materials there.

It's fucking Disney.

Walt Disney is an actual presence.
There's actually zero need to explain shit. Take your LOTR stuff elsewhere.

I've written a couple songs but I'm not gonna submit them for now because they aren't really viable for the thread.
>>
>>36252390
Look, you paranoid fucker, are you going to give me constructive criticism on why the idea's bad so I can improve it or are you going to keep accusing me of being a troll?

Ok. Argument resolved.

You're right, Nob, you're right, maybe he just wants to partecipate, but then he should read the old threads and get up to speed.

Really? Never read anything anywhere about them shapeshifting besides Maleficent doing it.

You seriously expect everyone to read through 25+ threads before participating? Nobody would be able to post before the current thread died.

I'd like to point out in Prydain, the fae are pretty nice. Though, you might say they are pixies of a sort.
>>

Well, they're lead by Maleficent, so they're all pretty evil, at least in France/Germany. The limits are; whatever's narratively convenient.

Oh right, I should probably post this

Sing to the tune of “A Girl worth Fighting for” – Mulan
ARMY
For a long time we’ve been marching off to battle
In our thund’ring herd we feel a lot like cattle
And the pounding of our aching feet aren’t easy to ignore
SVERD
So instead think of this world worth fighting for!
ARMY
Huh?
SVERD
That’s what I said:
A world worth fighting for!

One with a bright and noble moon and a thousand shining stars
A world not ruled by only strength, one we’ve cleaned of all it’s scars
I couldn’t care less that it might not be the best
All that matters is that we stopped this conquest
(beat)
ARMY
Yeah…

Well I’m sure the local girls thought you were quite the charmer
Just cause you’ve gotta be a knight in shining armor
But what us common folk have missed the most
Since we went off to war
What do we want?
A girl worth fighting for

SVERD
A world ruled by the pure of heart
One that’s honestly good inside
Where every nation’s just itself
And everyone is clear of mind
AMY
Yeah!
SVERD
With our true ways and turn of phrase I say that we can

ARMY
From all that started with a snowman
SOLDIER #1
I see a reason to believe in one another
SOLDIER #2
I see us fighting for each and every brother
SOLDIER #3
And when we come home in victory from having won this war
SVERD
What do we want?
ARMY
A world worth fighting for
SVERD
Know that we have
ARMY
A world worth fighting for
SVERD
Say that we have
ALL
A world worth fighting for!

I took a look at Naacha's build/backstory and whipped this up. Not as good as your stuff, but hey.

(To the tune of "The Circle of Life")

NAACHA

From the moment I turned on my brother,
And the truth... was brought into the sun.
There's been more made wrong than I can ever set right,
More I've lost than can ever be won...

There's far too much that's gone wrong here,
More repentance than can ever be earned,
But the wide world out there
Living tired and scared
Makes me feel like my heart's going to burn...

'cause I'm making it right,
If it takes forever,
Through fire and ice,
Through paths worn long,
Though I'll find no place
In the heart untainted,
I'll go out there!
I'm making it right!

Yes, I'm making it right!
If it takes forever!
Though I may lose my way,
I'll keep moving forward!
'till that final day,
When my path unbinds me,
I'll be out there...
Making it riiiiiiight!

AND SO ENDS THE SECOND PLAYTEST.

General conclusions before Nob comes in:

Mooks are balanced, fuck you.
Lackeys are pretty balanced, a little weak.
Villains and Inner Circle need a slight buff.
Some other more minor stuff too.
>>
>>36255271
Lackeys are best used not as captains, but as a sort of standard soldier unit, with a mook being a weaker/untrained/incompetent/drunker version of a soldier or guard. Also, a few lackeys is more fun to fight than a sea of mooks at Zero.
>>
>>36255271
Also, Beast armor and weapons should be about as hard to find as masterwork human weapons, because they stack with natural Beast buffs to become insane
>>
>>36255271
And music makes everything awesome!
>>
>>36255271

So Mooks and Lackeys are not the rape machines they were made out to be?
>>
>>36255326
Fuck that.
Mooks are the general soldier unit- you're SUPPOSED to plow through them. When you make the 'typical soldier' something the average protagonist will have actual, legitimate difficulty defeating, it's a MAJOR step in the direction of bullshit D&Dshit.
>>
>>36255410
Nope.

I still think Lackeys should be kept as the captain unit, mooks should be the general soldier. It's Disney, they are suppose to be shitty.
>>
>>36255411
>>36255442

That's what we agreed on through poll, so that's what they are going to stay until the next poll.
>>
>>36255388

Maybe they just shouldn't stack, or give a +1 at best if they are heavy.
>>
>>36255477
Probably for the best.
>>
>>36255411
>>36255442
After playing the game and fighting a group of 12 mooks and one lackey, the mooks feel slow because of the action economy. If you get 2 attacks per round, and mooks can be killed in one hit, fighting a group of them feels like trying to take out an ant colony by crushing them individually. You don't see each mook as an individual, you see a blob of mooks that you think of as a single unit. I was just proposing one way to deal with the issue, but another one I proposed may work better: a way to make more attacks than normal at a penalty (possibly only affecting mooks) in order to take out more than 2 at a time. As it is, mook fights feel a bit sluggish, that's all.
>>
>>36255542
Yeah, I agree with you there.
>>
Here's the second playtest, edited so that dicerolls don't stretch the screen like a motherfucker. Don't open this if you're on mobile, it's massive.
http://pastebin.com/qE1kW0YY

>>36255410
Nah, I was straight-up wrong. Tlalec was rolling +22.

>>36255411
>>36255442
Lackeys are captain units, and will remain as such -- but occasionally they'd be encountered as groups if in the service of a villain/inner circle organized enough to keep some elite soldiers around.

>>36255542
Agreed. Combat took three times as long as the combats in the previous playtest except for the fight with No One because there were just SO MANY OF THEM, and there were only 12.

Still think it may be a bad idea to allow more attacks than normal unless it's only against Mooks, otherwise we'll get stuff like Tlalec but moreso, a character designed to get massive buffs on a single attack then obliterate a boss in a single hit.
>>
>>36255542
>>36255585

Twelve Mooks for each lackey sounds a bit too much: would it be better if there was a lackey for every eight Mooks?
>>
>>36255640
Why does there need to be a specific number?
>>
As for general impressions: Mooks are in a good place. They don't get oneshot automatically except by combat monsters, and they're a legitimate threat if the players are unlucky. Lackeys are likewise in a good place: Player bonuses are ~+4 higher than I expected which is not surprising because I was calculating given 'average stats' but everyone focuses their character towards one aspect. Music is fine, but we need to see combat music to really playtest it. Beast equipment should be much rarer, Sir Bruin was doing something like +25 with his iron claws.

>>36255640
It was 11 mooks and a lackey. I was going by the theory of 7 mooks for a group of 3, 9 for 4, and 11 for 5. That's going to have to be toned down by ~2 mooks per pop. That way the players should be able to down the mooks in a single round.
>>
>>36255659

As a guide line, not as a hard rule.

>>36255624

>occasionally they'd be encountered as groups if in the service of a villain/inner circle

That would cover the "take care of important business" bit from their description, yes.
>>
Okay, new guy here. This might be one of those details that everyone has to choose to ignore but I'm curious. What is the policy on eating other animals? We have a lot of talking animals. Is it like Narnia where there is a difference between animals and TALKING animals?

Can't remember my other questions but that's the one that comes to mind.
>>
>>36255715
Animals talking/being sentient isn't universal, and most animals can't talk to humans so they can't really protest to them.

The actual ethics are up to debate.
>>
>>36255715
The Disney world is, in general, exactly like earth in that people raise and eat animals. The only difference is that some animals are intelligent for whatever reason (Particularly those in India and Africa) and can talk.
>>
>>36255624
Also, I think low-level AoE may be helpful. I'm thinking about things like a bag of caltrops, or a tripwire, rather than a traditional AoE. These could even not have any wounds attached to them, but are designed just to soften the defenses of a large number of enemies, so you can take a nice big penalty and hit a lot of very soft targets. They could also be slowed or have any other effects applied to them, allowing more interesting mook horde takedowns. I'm thinking of pouring grease on the ground and making a pack of guards run off a cliff/into a wall/into a lake, just as an example.

Also, I agree that multiattacks should have a rule saying they can't be on the same person. Or just only work on mooks.
>>
>>36255624
>Is it reasonable to get Elsa un-crazified at On-a-roll tier, provided I invest enough into Charm and Music/Persuade?

i'd think that'd be at least 30 for her to not murder everyone on the spot and probably like 35 to actually calm her down
>>
Okay, thanks for answering. I remembered my other question, which was about an alliance of Prince's to reunite the world. I'm not sure if any more work was done on that but the idea excited me. Especially if the Alliance was loose and each Prince had one or more knightly orders sworn to him.

I almost commissioned an artist I knew to draw me a Maldonian rifle knight with a mission to establish contacts in Arrendelle.

I also haven't found anything about Tulio, Miguel, and Chel yet. Was wondering about those guys.

If I'm breaking the flow of the thread just let me know.
>>
>>36255963

All the princes are either dead or in hiding of some sort. There's no feasible way an 'alliance of princes' could exist. Also it'd really break the whole 'The villains won' thing and the fact that the PCs were the ones to reunite the world.

Also, Star Wars isn't in the homebrew because it'd be gamebreaking crunch and fluffwise and there is no Arrendellian prince. Or Arrendellian anything, really.
>>
>>36256012
There's Arendellian wasteland and Arendellian tundra...

I suggest that we give an extra buff of some kind to Smart, Sensible, and Charming Guys, because the Nimble and Strong Guys get Prevent Harm for free, and the other classes don't currently have anything that corresponds to that.

Yes, exactly.
>>
>>36256114
>they're much less social

wat

from what i've seen so far some of the most social characters in the game have been strong guys

almost every single disney prince was a strong or nimble guy not a charismatic

just because they don't know how to drive a boat or legends of fae and shit doesn't mean they aren't great social characters
>>
>>36256187
so the argument is that it's balanced because Robustness and Agility aren't as useful as other skills? Not disagreeing, just clarifying.
>>
>>36256227
That's because they're being played as hams. Doesn't mean they're good at using Persuasion, Deceit, Barter, or Insight.
>>
>>36256227

You think the guys that get the bigger bonuses to social rolls are not, by definition, the most social characters?

We are not talking about how you can or cannot play your character: we are saying that, mechanically, they are less good at social stuff.

>>36256232

Yes, pretty much: they are sliglty less versatile
>>
>>36256012

I'm sorry I wasn't referencing Star Wars. Maldonia is where Prince Naveen is from. As for the alliance of princes that's really not the best way to describe it because they are in hiding. In another thread it was tossed around that they are basically resistance cells that may or may not have intermittent contact with each other. A knight of one of these prince's would in effect be undercover all the time.

And do we know what's up with Lord Wesetlton? I always felt that labeling him as a bad guy didn't make much sense. If Frozen and Tangled are around the same time then he very well have been royally fucked with by Mother Gothel and her witchcraft. I always saw his reactions in the movies as "DO YOU FUCKERS NOT GET IT? SHE'S A CRAZY PERSON WITH MAGIC!". And even then you can see him sad in the background as he hears of Anna's death. I imagine that the current state of the setting
would basically prove everything he was worried about.

Might make for a fun location, one that is generally friendly because he sees how bad the world has got until you show any magic and he's all GET OUT to the party.

Thoughts?
>>
>>36256262
you mean the disney princes or the characters?

because most disney princes aren't played as hams - like ryder and phoebus

if you mean characters tlacel and sverd are both better social characters than a bunch of smart/sensibles
>>
>>36256307

From a mechanical point of view, anon, from a mechanical point of view.

We are talking about mechanics now.
>>
>>36256307
>tlacel
>good at social
Did you see any of his rolls? He wouldn't get above 20 on an average social roll, his bonus to social skills is like +6.

Also, Sverd is Robustness/Charm with nothing inbetween.
>>
>>36256296
He's probably dead/hibernating

Arrendelle is a massive, giant frozen shitland where 95% of it's people are ice statues about now, and he was right next to the center of the explosion. Depends if we're going scientific and shit and killing people who were frozen or not, I guess.
>>

Thanks.

But rolls and bonuses are what matters in combat whether physical or social, we can't magically make people better actors and hammier writers by picking Charming, Sensible, or Intelligent characters.
>>
>>36256382
oh wizard guy, how low you've fallen. you used to be more subtle than this.
>>
>>36256339
I think the point he's making is that not getting to drop a die in a social skill is not crippling to being a social player. I'm tweaking my character to be Charming rather than Nimble, as I realized that it was more fun playing him like that anyways, so I'll see how it works out.

Also, what do you think of this trait? It's a +4, but it has 2 limiting factors (whole group participation and only social skills):Lord of the Dance: +4 to Music checks made leading the whole party in dance to buff a social skill
>>
>>36256418
Probably something along the lines of the sorceress queen freezing everyone, Hans and Anna (He'd totally play up the true love angle here, it makes him look like a tragic figure) trying to get her to unfreeze Arendelle, Elsa killing Anna with ice magic and Hans trying but failing to kill the ice queen and leading the survivors to safety afterwords (Actually leading the survivors entirely optional)
>>
>>36256418
I imagine it would go like this:
>Went to arendelle to princesses
>Met love of my life, perfect in every way
>She reveals to me she is the princess, who had been locked away in the castle by her sister
>I confront the wicked sister and tell her of my plans to marry
>She reveals her evil powers, fearing I might save her sister from her cruel heart and take her misbegotten throne
>She curses the land, freezing it eternal
>My beloved, still seeing some light in her heart, goes to try and convince her to take off the curse
>I stay behind to watch over Arendelle
>She returns and is shown to be cursed, her heart turning to ice.
>Eventually, she dies in her arms, after we exchange vows
>I Return to Elsa, and began to duel her. She slaughters all of my men, but eventually we bring her under arrest.
>she is brought back to Arendelle for trial, but escapes
>I confront her again, and begin to duel her
>Eventually, before I can slay her-
>*Tears up a bit*
>I am stopped by the possessed carcass of my dead love.
>I am taken aback, and narrowly escape by hiding in a abandoned ship
>I eventually make it back home, and promise to get Anna justice
>but, my body is too frail
>Please, do this task for me, and I will gladly give [Item platers need/want]
>>
>>36256549
*My, not her arms
>>
>>36256521
Make it +3 and it's more reasonable; with a social skill pretty much all songs are going to be group participation. It could be +4 depending on how stringent "whole party" is, though.
>>
Are there any traits for building more of a wacky, rubberhose-style PC? You can't have a Disney game without a bit of cartoony goodness.
>>
>>36256581
We are eventually going to get around to that, with a supposed Toon expansion thats probably going to come latter on, after the magic one
>>
>>36256521

But we never said it's crippling, we just said it deserves one point more in Prevent Harm.

About the Trait, instead. . .

Yeah, seems adequate: it's a +4, but requires your entire party and. . .

Actually, it depends on what you define as a Social Skill.

Just to be sure, you should limit this to Persuasion only.
>>
>>36256581
There was the comedic harm ones, which give you +3 to Endure and Prevent Harm at the cost of miscellaneous bad things happening to you ALL THE TIME.

Okay, I couldn't help my self. I needed to make this guy a K/L/R

Enjoy, from Over The Garden Wall!

King: In the moonlight of the old forests of the north, There are rumors of something, bizarre and monstrous. Legends of a creature that preys upon lost souls, who even Hades can not command. In these forests, they say, the lost and forgotten stories of those who meet tragic ends, come to life and show themselves to those who wonder through the woods. But, there is no story more accursed or mysterious than that of the great shadow known as The Beast. No one truly knows what he is but, there are of course rumors. Some say that he is one of The Thing on Bald Mountain's minions, due to his pitch black appearance and power over the night. Some say that he is the byproduct of a Shadow Friend cutting a deal with the Aurora Boreallis, betraying the friends for a more mystical and natural power. But no matter the case, those who hear The Beast's voice ringing out through the forest at night rarely see the next day. Fewer are those who see the two glowing eyes piercing the Dark, for they soon find themselves purposeless and buried in shadow. Those that give into the weary and heart sinking sights and feelings of the cold winter and depressing shadows will soon find themselves set upon the beast, as he twists and manipulates the lost soul into his favored fuel: The Oilwood trees, for the Beast's true form hover, is not what it seems.

He must rely on the light of a lantern to keep himself alive and active, for with out a light, what good is a shadow? But the Beast guards his lamp, and by extension, its bearer well. He clouds the bearers way, and sends away those that he can not extinguish himself. and thanks to manipulation and trickery on his part, the bearer of the lamp fervently believes that the only way to preserve his brothers soul is to burn Oil grinded from the Souls left in the Oilwood trees. Little does the poor boy know that his brother has long since passed on, back to his life, leaving his misguided older brother alone. But yet he continues, cutting down the OilWood trees a in vain attempt to keep what he thinks is his brother's soul alive, all the while the beast watches and further leads the young man further and further into doubt, his only redoubts are the occasional traveler and bluebird.

Still governed by sensibility, and Sverd has a 6 in that with no points in insight because he pretty much totally depends on other people to do anything that isn't being stronk, being fast or rousing various kinds of rabble.

I'm thinking maybe only Persuasion and maybe Deceit. It will be at least less powerful than this: Chivalry: +3 to all social skills so long as you follow the warrior's code of your own culture.
which I think should be nerfed heavily, as it is +3 to at least 3 skills (Intimidate, Deceit, Persuasion) Mine is +4, but only to a specific subset of one skill (music)

Land: The Realm of The Beast, the Unknown, was once a rumored limbo. A fairy tale, told to easily frightened children from the gnarled old. But as the Beast hungers for more and more souls, the Unknown has become much more. It bleeds through, opening holes in little travelled places. Take a step behind a building and you will soon find yourself in a over grown wilderness. But the lost souls who do not fall to the beast's hunger, soon find themselves even worse off. Witches and curses fly freely here, as the normal constraints of reality began to fall apart due to the unique magic of the Unknown.

It is often debated by travelers who pass through the Unknown to argue about the very nature of it. Some say that it is a place where human souls who find themselves lost eventually end up. Others say that it is a perhaps a limbo of sorts, for those who did not commit to evil or good. But, as the name of the land suggests, the truth in the matter is that it is, and will most likely always, be Unknown.

The land itself could be described as small islands of farms and buildings, surrounded by a sea of dark, autumn and winter forests. These small pockets of civilization vary greatly, ranging from entire towns made up of the dead disguised in costumes to villages made up of walking and sentient Animals, to giant, ever expanding manors. These small worlds are disconnected, and only brought together via the poor souls not already bound to one of them.

I think this would a great place to use Weselton. He was there and knows what actually happened, how the party went wrong. From what it seems his dukedom might be the closest to Arendelle and a boat might be found willing to take the foolhardy adventurers to the old port. The party, having heard the story first from Hans, will now have to figure out what they think of these two conflicting stories. Additionally, while Lord Weselton does not really care for Frollo he admits that Frollo's witch hunters do an effective job of keeping witches and other magic users out. So players would have to deal with those guys as well.

And what if the Hunting Club has a few guys in the Dukedom trying to get into Arendelle to hunt the frozen horrors there? They might be convinced into becoming temporary allies, at least for as long as it takes to get to Arendelle.

Thoughts?

Rule: The Unknown hungers: Across the midnight expanse of the forest, The Beast is nigh omnipresent. Every fallen log, every bush, every corner could be another hiding spot of the beast as he moves across the forest. He is a master of misdirection and trickery, and will often try to lead parties into bouts of heated arguments and depression so as to split them up. Those who are alone, and fall prey to The Beast's acts will soon find themselves rooted the ground, and eventually transformed into the Oilwood trees, their souls now only used to feed The Beast at his leisure.

But that is not all the unknown holds for those unsuspecting. Almost as capricious as the fey and the Aurora, those who move too fast or too slow or agree to strange deals, may find themselves trapped forever in prisons. It is not uncommon to hear that Animals were once humans or to see puppets come alive and form little worlds for themselves. The Unknown lurks within all who enter, and if they linger too long, they might just become a part of the Unknown as well.

>>
>>36256703
Keep in mind that this only applies when DIRECTLY following the warrior's code of your culture. These things are strict as fuck. +3 is an appropriate bonus for not being able to do an incredible amount of things and only acting in one very specific way. For example, if a Knight tried to say 'This corrupt government leader is obviously wrong' or 'This priest is incorrect'? Bonus gone.

>>36256706

I imagine it'd probably work out pretty well because Sverd's rabid idealism would be kept in check by Elsa's more dominant and, y'know, regal nature, while Sverd would keep people honest and good and whatnot and the army strong by serving as a Hero of the People/Commoner's King kinda thing.

You uh

>>
>>36256723
Basically yah. So Weselton's land would become the launching point of many different organizations trying to get into Arendelle. The Hunters, the Atlanteans, etc.

Because if Arendelle is supposed to be almost completely bereft of all life then the party needs a starting point, a base camp to get supplies and information one last time before they head in.
>>
>>36256777
But because the warrior's code is negatively defined, as a list of things NOT to do rather than a list of things TO do, that still covers more cases than it doesn't
>>
>>36256827
Will do! Thanks
>>
>>36256842
Actually, chivalry is a list of things to do.
And it only applies when you're fulfilling one of them and not violating a different section in any way.

It's basically a +3 to Persuade when not acting against an authority figure, the church, respecting the rights of everyone, pursuing the general welfare while at the same time pursuing personal glory and making sure to respect women as equals but also remember that loyalty to your nation is them most important thing ever.

You can't use deceit or intimidation ever and get the bonus, and saying "Hey, let's go kill Chernabog" would also lose the bonus because he's an authority figure.

That's just Chivalry, anyway. Welcome to Medieval Battle Conduct and Personal Ethics 101.

>>36256808
Pfft, I'll probably go into Hell and find her soul to create more moral dilemmas later anyway.

So how do the former British colonies get along with the Kingdom of the Cauldron? Or each other for that matter? They seem to have been settled/established in different ages, so I assume they would be loyal to different pretenders, or simply themselves.
>>
>>36256924
Chivalry only cares about respecting rightful authority; Chernabog can suck it. Also, you could get away with intimidate if you were all gentlemanly about it. ("Do X, or you will leave me no choice but to resort to violence!")
>>
>>36257007

but from a mechanical standpoint, there is a bit of a rule for traits: It's a +2 bonus to one skill to start. Then, for every restriction you place on it, it can either apply to one more skill or increase the buff by 1. Chivalry has +3 to 3 skills, so it would need to have 3 fairly tough limitations, one for going from +2 to +3, and 2 for applying to 3 skills. It only really has one limitation on it, so it's overpowered as of now.

As the guy who put the 'princely alliance' forward in the first place, I'd say that 'small resistance cells across the globe that have limited contact with each other' is what I envisioned. The only princes you'd see working directly together would be ones with geographical proximity; as I've suggested before, if they were all alive, King Arthur would certainly have Taran and Meridia as his lieutenants of his rebel army against the Horned King. Prince Charming and Prince Phillip are both Franks, and collaborate against the Cauldronborn and Mirror Soldier on their borders as well as the Inquisition and Fae within. Snow White's prince, the Teuton, is pretty much on his own outside of the alliance's network. But the network, which also includes guys who aren't really princes like Eugene, Kristoff and Shang Li, means that none of them are really alone. They share information freely amongst themselves, even when it doesn't benefit them directly, for they know the others would do the same for them, and it's just the right thing to do. For example, between Arthur and company and Snow White's prince, Charming and Phillip have fairly accurate ideas of when, where and by whom France will be attacked. This is more of a 'let's keep a few lines open between my people and your people' thing, mind you.

Well then, here you go.

Name: Renee Tabardine
Role: Sensible Girl
Country of Origin: France (The Fae Lands)
Size: Medium
Species: Human

---Attributes---
Robustness: 6/12
Agility: 8/12
Intelligence: 8 /12
Sensibility: 10/12
Charm: 8/12
Will: 3/3
Strikes: 3/3

---Skills---

Ranged: 3
Prevent Harm: 3
Stealth: 3
Legerdemain: 3
Persuasion: 3
Academics: 3
Occult: 3
Linguistics: 3 (Birds, Mammals, Spirits)
Insight: 3
Music: 3
Craft: 3

---Traits---
Time for Panic: +5 to any roll used to escape a dangerous situation while on one Strike or no Strikes.

No Time To Panic!: +2 to resist Fear

This man is obviously a Charlatan
+2 on Insight checks against people who are obviously villains.

---Powers---
Are You Scared?
Identify one character. You are able to discern their greatest fear. All allies get +2 to cause a social Strike.

The Laws Of Distant Realms: As any good folklorist can tell you, the fey have /rules/. Nonsense rules, but rules nonetheless. Bonus to Occult Knowledge and diplomacy with the more lawful types of spirits.

---Ideals---
Everybody/thing has something important to say, and information can be more valuable than gold.

There’s always a way out of trouble if you think about it.

If push comes to shove, running is perfectly valid.

---Goals---
Zero: Earn a boon from a magical creature
On-a-Roll: Find my little sister who was stolen by the fae
Hero: Take down those responsible for the above incident (or at least help)

Physical Description: A slightly built preteen girl with medium-length dark hair and hazel eyes.
>>
>>36257103
http://pastebin.com/esNdWCFR
got around to digging up Jeramiahs character as we
>>
>>36257401

Backstory: Has a chip on her shoulder against the Fae and Fairies, and ran away from home before her family was going to marry her off or send her to the convent. She wants to see the world and find her sister who was taken away by the faeries.

She knows a little bit about the whispered faerie tales of France, and would like to learn more. She knows a little about living on her own from her father (what’s okay to eat or not, trapping/hunting), but still mostly uses her wits to get out of a jam. She’s decent at music as well.

STUFF:
Flint & Steel
Cloak
Hunting Bow: +1 to Ranged
>>
>>36257294
Chivalry as a whole applies to at least half of the situations where it would be valuable. I was in the playtest today, and there aren't many situations that you would get in that run directly contrary to the code of chivalry that these people describe. Also, +3 to 3 skills is just fucking absurd. It needs a nerf. And saying that each granular part of the code counts doesn't work. That is like saying that a bonus to Music gets +1 for every skill it won't apply to. Also, warrior codes very. Tlacel's warrior code is very different than Sverd's, so one person can do a lot more than another. Additionally, people will presumably be following their personal code for RP reasons, and even if it breaks the code, they only get one roll without a +3 bonus. It just should be +2 to Persuasion and Intimidate, rather than +3 to Persuasion, Intimidate, and Deceive,

Yep.

Also, Shotguns might be a bit OP, as they currently are just like bows, but tiwce as good and with a higher Robustness requirement. We shouhld make them loud and have a shorter range (nearly melee, these would be giant-ass blunderbusses with almost no accuracy to speak of) or make them risk a misfire or something on a critical miss (miss by either 5 or more or 10 or more)
>>
>>36257616
We don't even have the equipment rules down yet, man.

As a general rule though, the only +3 weapons you can get at game start are New World guns and Greatswords. You can also get equipment that gives a +2 to whatever check you're trying to get assuming you can justify it giving that bonus.

>>36257684
Agreed, Shotguns are way too strong. They should be at max like +4 due to needing Robustness 10 to use a ranged weapon, which generally uses Agility. I think it was originally intended to use robustness, but people persuaded me to make it Agility on all ranged attacks instead.

yes, but add that to a bear with 14 ROBUSTNESS, a natural Brawling buff, and a high Brawling skill, and you get OP
>>
>>36258001

We'll get many new fantastic points of view.
>>
>>36258008
Yeah, Bruin probably would have tanked the entire scouting team by himself if he was alone

and Arachne
>>
>>36258021

Yo, Pirate Monkey, you should hand out your Skype to folks interested in character creation in case they need a helping hand.
>>

Fair enough. Back to the drawing.....now what part of the world would be interesting for a sea-faring, self-proclaimed prince to hail from? Polynesia? Brazil? The Ivory Coast?
>>
Does anyone intend on making a new thread? I don't mind starting so long as I know what's meant to go into the opening post.
>>
>>36258043
>No! Spiderwaifu!
>>
>>36258070

The Carribean.

How is that even a question? He's GOTTA be a pirate prince.
>>
>>36258070
Either Neverland, as a former cabin's boy, or teh Carribean.
>>
>>36258068

Why me? Just curious.

Hell, that's the first character I've made.
>>
>>36258098
>>36258093
>>36258070

Or on the Pirate Monkey boat if you want to make him a dinosaur

just sayin'
>>
>>36258068
It's not like i'm right here, or anything. Seriously, just 'bin or google doc your sheet and i'll take a look.
>>
>>36258112

I'll trust anyone with a name like 'Pirate Monkey', and your responses have been pretty quick,
>>
>>36258093
Carribean's overdone, I want something more exotic. You're right about piracy though.

>check World Map
>EITC all over Polynesia
>so many opportunities to get up in their shit
>so much loot to be plundered
It's decided then.

New thread before death when?

>>36258157
We don't have a single pirate PC, to my knowledge.
>>
>>36258134

Well, I only picked that name because I'm the anon who fleshed out Jack the Pirate Monkey and wrote his KLR.

However, what I come up with is way more on the fluffy side. If you want help, Nob is probably a better choice.

>>
>>36258267

Ha! Sorry there Nob! I jumped the gun!
>>
>>36258313
No worries. I waited rather too long; just let the other thread fall off, it should die soon enough.
