Because obviously I couldn't do a Star Wars quest without numbering it as episodes. I'll probably develop a formula to making OPs for this along the line, for now you get my irreverent and indeed irrelevant stream of consciousness nonsense.

ANYWAY. Real prose follows.

You are Zakm'yle'neras, you are a chiss, you are 10 years old and you have just arrived in the Korriban system.

Perhaps most importantly of all, you're moments away from landing on Korriban itself, ancient homeworld of the Sith, and where your training towards becoming a Sith Lord yourself shall begin. Your shuttle to the orbital station was provided at your father's expense; a Sith of some small renown himself, Lord Vark'ona'sttor, he's quite keen to see his first child blossom into an heir he can be proud of. But the next step is to be taken among your fellows, the latest batch of young force-sensitives, some ambitious volunteers, some dread-filled prisoners, all given the opportunity to wield the power of the force and leave their mark on the galaxy.

Of course, even with your youth, you're well aware it's rare for more than one member of such a group to survive, brought up as you were on stories of your father's exploits, especially his formative years on Korriban. And, of course, you're quite certain that sole survivor will be you, honestly, to look at the others, it's hard to call it any other way. Five in all, six including you, a sickly looking human girl with some sort of brand burnt onto her face, a grotesque looking alien whose gender and species alike you can't entirely be sure of, a blue-skinned twi'lek boy that never seems to let his eyes stay on any one thing for more than a second, and two more humans, both male, possibly twins by the looks of things, but you're not certain.

[1/2]
>>
[2/2]

None of them look up to much. But then again, in all fairness, they probably think the same of you. A latecomer, the second smallest of the group - only a little more imposing than the gaunt human girl - and somewhat thick-set despite your physical fitness. But you're all children. Years will pass, some will thrive, others will crumble. All that matters is being in the former category when it counts.

As it stands, you've got about half an hour to kill before the lander takes you down to the surface. What will you do?

No sense in sitting around being bored while you wait. The others seem to be a little standoffish so far, they're sitting "together" enough that you can tell they're a group, but nobody's actually talking, so you decide to approach and break the ice. Start with the human boys, they're actually sitting side-by-side, and they look related, maybe they'll be easier to talk to.

"I'm Mylene. Are you two twins?"

Smooth. Well, you are ten, you'll get the hang of this in time, surely.

The two look up, practically in unison. "Yes," begins one, "I'm Zakk" says the other, "and I'm Kagg." the former completes. That seems like it'll get annoying quickly.

"So how did you two come to be acolytes?"

Easy enough question, not too pointed as to be seen as prying, they can easily just give a simple answer if they don't want to tell you about their past(s), or the long one if they feel like sharing.

Kagg begins as before, a hint of smugness more than a little bit obvious. "We're the real thing,"

"Sith blood has been in our family since the first Dark Jedi came to Korriban!" Zakk completes for him, again. Maybe it's not just obnoxious twin stuff, perhaps he just likes to interrupt.

You're not entirely sure about the veracity of Zakk's claim, either, if they were directly descended from one of the original Dark Lords, you'd surely have heard of them?

"Our father is a Dark Lord, so naturally, we're strong in the force like him." Kagg adds, after a brief pause. He seems a little less overconfident, a little more self-assured, than his twin brother.

"Oh, so you're going to be like him, then? Have I heard of him?"

This time it's Zakk that answers first, he really does love the sound of his own voice. "Darth Zarkus, he's in Military Offence! Fought on the ground on Coruscant and everything!"

The sound of his own voice, and the sound of it making a big deal about how important their father is. But then, he is a Darth, a step above your own father. For now, at least.

Kagg chimes in "And we're going to be there when the Republic finally dies, too."

A little bit dark for a pre-teen.

"So, you two must get compared to each other a lot then?"

There's an awkward silence as neither seems to want to be the first to claim superiority. Pointed stares at one another make their shared feelings reasonably clear, though.

Ouch, looks like a raw nerve has been struck. They definitely both believe themselves to be the better, but not quite confidently enough to proclaim it and risk the other taking it as a challenge. Or maybe you're reading too much into a stare, young girls have been known to do that from time to time.

"I mean, you must've done some training already, right?"

Attempted situation defuse begins...

"We had our own practice sabers at home," begins Kagg, falling back into the routine. It's almost comfortable rather than annoying the way Zakk butts in, "But dad never let us really go all out."

"Yeah, we never really got to have a real winner." confirms Kagg.

"What about a little contest now? We've got about twenty minutes until we leave, right?"

"You guys already fought a bunch and didn't get a clear winner, why not try... riddles?"

The twins give you a quizzical look. But then they look back to each other, and back to you, and by some unspoken communication they both seem to have come to an agreement.

"What flies when it's born, lies while it lives, and runs when it dies?"

That's a simple enough one to start with, a nice old school Csillan riddle, with enough lack of context to make the two would-be Sith immediately connect it to their immediate literal circumstances rather than the more lateral, correct answer.

"A... harpy?" ventures Kagg.

You're not quite sure what one of those is. Human folklore maybe. You shake your head.

"A broken droid?" tries Zakk. Flying droid that lies then starts running when it's broken? That's... well, it's almost an answer.

"Snow!"

Zakk groans, the second he hears it he's somehow sure Kagg has it. "Flies through the air, lies on the ground, melts and runs off!"

"No fair, do another one!" demands Zakk.

You look to Kagg, he's looking smug, and nods, content to have a second go. After all, if Zakk wins, they're back to being even, and if he wins, he wins it all. He has to screw up twice to come out behind, and likes those odds.

"Okay, best of three."

Zakk perks up.

Hmm... Kagg's already shown himself to be the smarter of the two, upping the ante and making it even harder should serve to confirm it. Make Zakk see him as a rival, whilst Kagg sees you as at least an intellectual equal, you come out on top no matter what.

"I am what men love more than life, fear more than death or mortal strife, what dead men have and rich require, I'm what contented men desire. What am I?"

Silence. If not for the ambient sounds of the space station, you could hear a proverbial pin drop. Speaking of proverbs, you can most definitely see the cogs turning as the pair try to work it out, figure out what all those requirements have in common.

Seconds pass, almost a minute, by your reckoning.

"Nothing."

Well that wasn't either of them, wasn't even a male voice. You look around, the human girl seems to be averting her eyes now, but it was almost certainly her, unless the twi'lek or the gas-mask alien have such a feminine voice. More importantly, it's the right answer.

"Don't be, they weren't going to get it any time soon."

The two glare at you, as if to suggest they'd actually been close. No, by the looks of things they're very literal thinkers, brute force and ignorance types.

"Come over, you can join us if you'd like."

"Hey!" demands Zakk, "We still need our best two of three!"

"Alright, but she and Kagg both only need one more to win."

You look to the human, sizing her up before you speak. She looks somehow strong and sickly at the same time, though her posture isn't helping on the strong front, she has the look of someone very much worn down, yet too stubborn to let it kill them. A sort of reserved confidence, compared to Zakk and Kagg's more open, smug variety.

"This thing all things devours;
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats mountain down."

Pause. Kagg begins to say "The Emp..." but cuts himself off, looking thoughtful. Probably realising that the Emperor, whilst he might be supposedly capable of slaying kings, ruining towns or even beating down mountains, probably doesn't eat metal or trees.

Then in unison, Zakk and the girl speak. "Time!" proclaims Zakk.
"Age?" she asks.

Hm. Both right.

"No fair! We got it at the same time, rematch!"

Kagg doesn't dissent, he's more than happy to get his brother's win discounted and stay one step ahead.

"That okay with you, uh..."

It dawns on you that you haven't gotten her name yet.

"Moriana. No, it's okay, that was a tie."

If Moriana wins then the twins will both probably turn on her for being smarter than them. If Kagg or Zakk wins then just the brothers will turn on each other. We must balance and direct the anger of our soon to be minions so that they do not end each other before they become useful.

You speak great wisdom, I totally didn't think of that. @SithEmpQuest is live. I'll announce Episode II on it when I get around to starting it.

Confirming we go final destination at 4 votes to 3. Writing.

nah mang. I like this quest so far. well like is a strong word. I am Indifferent in a positive manner toward this quest.
You're doing a good job for not having read any quests so that's really promising!

>No hanky panty on my watch! Just usefulness and never ending plotting.
I think you will be a useful asset. Will you scheme with me? in bed with the lights off.
>>
>>36233235
Only way she's getting into our bed is if we share the twins. Which won't happen.
>>
>>36233319
Wonderful!
>>
>>36233235
>Will you scheme with me?
Maaaayyybee~

>>36233319
Every Acolyte here in our group is a meatshield for us to use and manipulate. And when our final testing begins they will be our willing meatshields to the point that when we stand together with the last other survivor they will still be smiling at us when we stab them dead. Sith politics fuck yeah!
>>
>>36233426
That sounds really boring anon.
>>
>>36233426
>Hey, know this thing that makes up 80% of your quest?
>We're going to kill them and use them as meat shields! Doesn't that sound fun?
No.
>>
>>36233459
Well to up in rank we do have to step over the bodies of those infront of us. And I do enjoy rising up in the ranks but that's probably because I've played to much House and Dominion on TG.
>>
>>36233505
So we'll step over them together. Ta fucking dah. Now we can have interesting characters AND act like sith
>>
>>36233459
>>36233496
Do you guys even understand what a true sith is?

"Fairest way I can do it is say you're all tied, winner take all on the third riddle."

There's a few seconds thought, then three nods. Damn, they're all taking this very seriously. Perhaps establishing a sort of universally-liked centre-of-the-group role will work in your favour.

"I think... a quick and simple one? Yeah. I fasten to walk, unfasten to stop, what am I?"

Silence descends again, even the twi'lek and the... something, seem to be paying attention now, having previously been almost pointedly keeping to themselves. So serious. You could almost laugh, you've changed the tone so drastically in so short a time.

Moriana leans forward, Zakk and Kagg both glare at her, and she remains silent. You're not quite sure if she was just intimidated down from giving an answer, of if it's entirely innocent.

And then Kagg looks down at his feet. And looks up, smiling.

"A boot."

You smirk. "Correct."

Zakk scowls, but doesn't speak. Moriana looks about the same. Kagg doesn't even attempt to contain his grin.

"You watch yourself on the surface, Kagg." Zakk suddenly spits. The two of them are extremely intense for young boys. Kagg seems primed to retort, but the arrival of a robed, hooded man cows him. It doesn't take a genius to guess the man is Sith.

"Acolytes. With me."

---

Well this has been a blast, and I look forward to seeing you lot on Korriban.

I wasn't in the last thread, but all know the glory of Bowie. Be grateful that you may marvel in His splendour.
