Welcome to the XXVI installment of "Disney Villains Victorious."

Disney Villains Victorious is a new /tg/ homebrew project based on the idea of a world, not entirely unlike our own, in which all the villains from all the Disney animated feature films were not defeated at the ends of their movies but were instead victorious, completing their goals in part or in whole.

It is a world in which Ursula rules the seas, defied only by the uncatchable Pirate Lords, the cutthroat merchants of the East India Trading Company and the might of Atlantis and its magitech-toting mercenaries. It is a world where the grasslands and jungles and forests are prowled not only by fearsome primal beasts like Shere Kahn and Scar but also by the ruthless, tireless hunters that stalk them. It is a world where Europe has been divvied up between evil sorcerous monarchs like Maleficent, the Horned King, Grimhilde and Jafar, mad, inquisitorial clergymen like Frollo, and Dark Gods like Hades and Chernobog.

It is not, however, a world completely devoid of courage, heroism or hope. Around the world, the PCs' characters and their allies plot and plan, fight and strive and win their own victories against the villains that would rule them. The time to fight and to be free is now.

Okay, what's on the agenda tonight?
I might try organizing the catalogue, though it might be a clusterfuck.
Writefagging maybe? I'd have to find a good topic.

Transcript in a couple minutes, in which Sverd follows chivalry to the letter
>>
TL;DR: We're going to have to give boss characters lots and lots of strikes, and bump up difficulties on hitting minions. The rest of it runs pretty smoothly.
>>
>>36196534
Can you write about pirates or the EITC? Anything about the two would be refreshing.
>>
Its really good to have seen this idea come so far
>>
Last time, on Disney Villains Victorious:

>Our first official alpha playtest has been held, run by Nobody Important and attended by a number of in-thread players and spectators. Transcripts, analysis and re-crunching to follow.

>Many more example characters are created as part of the aforementioned alpha testing and, of course, just for the fun of it.

>Contributors brainstorm the possibility of Belle giving birth to a truly Beastly bastard daughter before Gaston's Villainous Victory and subsequent ROBUST baby making with her.

>A number of great song adaptations are written by none other than our own Sverd and Plane Crazy, several of which turn out to be true show-stoppers.
>>
>>36196611
I can try for it. Any preference between pirates and EITC?

That pic expresses so much about it I almost don't need the transcript.
>>
Okay, first of all as a warning this 'bin is massive. If you're on mobile i'd suggest not opening it. Secondly it appears to have stretched out all the rolls. Other than that it's good.

General notes:
Combat is very quick and highly brutal for mooks. They're gonna need Defense 22 or at least Prevent Harm 22 or whatever because Jeremiah and Svald literally could not miss.
Villains and bosses need lots of strikes. Naacha destroyed No One in what would be a single combo except that Svald made it there first. I'm talking like ~6 strikes against a party of three so they're guaranteed at least one hit.
We need an actual initiative system.
We need to decide whether attacker or defender gets priority.
>>
>>36196744
Nah. Writefag as you please.
>>
General consensus as a result of the playtest is that we're going to make combat considerably more difficult (especially for bosses), decide on attacker/defender precedent, make an initiative system and increase the focus and strength of music.
>>
>>36196770
Mooks should be easy. The wonder is if they should get more Prevent Harm points or if we should just throw more mooks at the party.
>>
Also I'd like to point out that I created a session solely around the protagonists fucking up a wizard and his minions.

>>36196811
Either would work, really.

>>36196770

It's 2 a.m. here so I'm going to collapse into a sleeping heap momentarily, but I just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work on this Nob. As a fluff and ideas guy primarily, I really appreciate all the time you've put into the crunch on this project and the direction you've helped give to the threads.

The same goes to all the rest of you contributors as well, of course. This has been one of the most fun and creative projects I've worked on in a long while. Good night all!
>>
>>36196770
How about each player and npc in comat rolls 1D6 and adds their agility. If they tie, roll again.
>>
>>36196770
Also, we should make a Weakness Option.

I used it so I could justify giving Hannah 2 powers.

Also, Musicians should get an initiative bonus, so that they can be effective sooner.
>>
>>36196873
Actually, make it so they can choose either charm or agility
>>
>>36196873
Ties go to the person with the higher agility

Person A: 7 Rolls 1
Person B: 6 Rolls 2

Person A goes before Person B
>>
>>36196873
>>36196896
>>36196902
Sounds good. We'll try working with that on the buffed playtest on Tues/Thurs.

>>36196881
Probably a good idea but I'm not sure how ti implement it.
>>
>>36196896
I like that.
>>
>>36196873
>>36196896
>>36196902
A solid system. That works.

Onto the next topic: If the event of a tie in combat, should it hit or miss? Otherwise known as attacker/defender precedent.
>>
>>36196909
>Probably a good idea but I'm not sure how ti implement it.

The charm idea, is actually a great solution for that, since a Musician will, probably, have a high Charm.

Maybe we make that an option of the 'Charming Guy' role?
>>
>>36196950
I'd say make that THE charming power instead of +action. Another action is a LOT, and I'm surprised we didn't see it. Action economy is part of what broke 3.0 horribly, so let's try to avoid that.
>>
>>36196938
What if in a tie, we dropped the bonuses, and whomever actually rolled higher gets it?

And if THAT'S a tie, then I suppose an odd or even roll?
>>
>>36196984
Yeah, we should rethink those +actions. Maybe only give that to the Nimble Guy.
>>
>>36196985
Since there's so much reliance on bonuses here, this makes sense. Anyone object to it?
>>
Okay then, guess not.
So, music. In an entire session of playing going through as much as we could, we used music out-of-combat twice, once just because and once to pacify a small crowd. That's just not Disney. Music is solid as it is as a support skill for combat, but we should try and figure it into a more prominent role in out-of-combat situations, too.

>>36197010
Not really, although that may make combat spike-y at higher tiers. We'll cross that bridge when it comes to it.

>>36197006
I'm not sure we should give +actions for anything other than Heroic powers. But that's just my opinion.

>>36196869
T-thanks.

>>36196938
On a tie: I think whoever rolls higher should win. Just set aside the bonuses.
>>
>>36197010
I don't. Having the option of what stat to use for your initiative makes the game more accommodating to social-oriented characters so that combat-oriented characters don't steamroll.
>>
>>36197117
Actually, 2 songs in one session sounds just about right. Unless it's a musical, there shouldn't be TOO many songs or players will get burnt out of it.
>>
>>36197153
But both of them were sung by me, and I didn't take the effort to actually sing out the song with the ones in my archives. And I didn't have a really good reason to sing either time.
>>
>>36197179
Hmm... You had a bard in the party. Maybe you should encourage her use singing for out-of combat situations more to keep in the Disney mood.
>>
>>36197179
That's not true. When you guys were destroying the local police force Hannah was singing/playing the lute.
>>
>>36197203
Right, but it's DISNEY, so every character should sing to express any kind of emotion. The fact that someone could conceivably go an entire campaign without singing a single song horrifies me.
>>36197212
But that was in-combat singing.
>>
>>36197130
>I'm not sure we should give +actions for anything other than Heroic powers.

Spend a Will Point, get a second action.

Should that be the big 'reward' for going up a tier? I know we've always debated that.

Go up a tier, get +1 will point, and spend 1 will point to get a 2nd action based upon your roll.

Thoughts?
>>
>>36197230
Maybe they just didn't think it was appropriate at the time.
>>
>>36196770
>Sverd gave away a small fortune and all his money to prove a point in a casino

oh lawd
>>
>>36197274
Don't get Hannah started...

Heh, those two are now stuck together, aren't they?
>>
>>36197274
Sverd gets the group into a lot of trouble more than once.

>>36197239
Seems... reasonable, but that would require advanced playtesting. Perhaps a Melee action for a Strong guy, a Ranged or skill action for a Nimble guy, a skill action for an Intelligent guy, and a Social action for Sensible and Charismatic guys.

>>36197230
More singing is good, but you must remember that Tin Ear is a thing.
>>
>>36197296
This could be an interesting dynamic when we eventually get to Arrendelle if we play another campaign together.
>>
are we still undecided on vehicles or other methods of transport
>>
>>36197359
There's a Driving skill.
>>
>>36197312
Well, I have to crash. I don't know if I'll be able to make the Tuesday playtest, but don't let that stop you.

This is such a wonderful experience. I've been having nothing but fun, and I love every bit of fluff that comes out.

>Nobody Important (GM): It takes you ~15 minutes to ride to the estate around the side.
There's about a two minute window if you want to sneak inside.
However, the window is locked. Anyone have Mechanics to jimmy it open?
>Sverd: ((Is it big enough to jump through?))
>Jeremiah: "Alright, before we go in"
>"We need some base rules"
>Nobody Important (GM): ((theoretically, but that'd be loud.))
>Jeremiah: "Number one, stick together"
>Nobody Important (GM): ((of course, if you want to wing it...))

This is a beautiful portrayal of an innocent, insecure knight with something to prove. Also, kek

Here's the song about resisting tyranny from my archives.
Sing to the tune of “Till we reach that day” – Ragtime, 1998 version
SVERD
There’s a day of hope
May I live to see
When all hearts are happy
And all souls are free
Let the new day dawn
Oh, Lord, I pray.
I’ll get us all to heaven
I’ll see us reach that day.
CROWD
We’ll never have peace!
We’ll never have pride!
SVERD
A day of pride…
CROWD
We’ll never have Jusitce!
We’ll always be denied!
SVERD
Or just denied…
CROWD
Where can a man live?
Where a child play?
We’ll never see a heaven
We’ll never reach that day.
SVERD
What they’ve done to you
What they took from you
You had life in you
Lord, they had life!
Look what they left of you,
Left of you,
Left of my friends!
CROWD AND SVERD
Nothing and no one to them….
SVERD
A day of peace…
CROWD
See the blood on the ground!
SVERD
A day of pride….
CROWD
See the people that died!
SVERD
A day of justice….
CROWD
It will happen again!
SVERD
Forever denied…
CROWD
It will happen again
And again
And again!
SVERD
Let the new day dawn
Why does no one care?
CROWD
See the blood in the air!
SVERD
I see voices and souls!
What is wrong with you all?
You were somebody’s child!
There are people in there!
There are people in there!

And I swear to the people
SVERD
A day of peace.
CROWD
A day of pride?
SVERD
A day of justice
That you all have been denied
Let the new day dawn
CROWD
Oh Lord, I pray
SVERD
I swear I’ll get you all to heaven
I swear we’ll reach that day.

Excellent.
Also, some thoughts on the Shadowlands: booby traps are going to be absolutely ubiquitous. Since thievery is so commonplace, everyone's going to need some way of protecting their valuables while they're gone, and hidey-holes can only do so much. Trap-makers are an odd combination of vital and distrusted; their skills are needed to protect your home properly, but since they set the traps, they'll know how to get past them. The solution to this dilemma, of course, is to lynch any trap-maker who gets a reputation for untrustworthiness. Trustworthy trap-makers, however, would be stupid wealthy.
Another thing you'd see a lot of is clans. Clans, and armed compounds. The only people you can really trust is family- if even that- so extended families will stick together. Gangs would also be a major thing among those without an extended family to fall back on. In both cases, the basic principle is simple- fuck with one of us, you fuck with us all. Members have each others' backs- everyone owes everyone else. That's the theory, anyway- practice is something else. Often just ends up as 'everybody owes the boss', but just being part of an organization is better than going it alone. Warfare between clans and gangs would be common, ranging from sporadic feuding to furious genocidal death-spirals. Weakened gangs and clans might be absorbed or simply If you own a person outright, do you inherit his debts? If so, slavery would be nearly nonexistent. If not... Does a child owe a debt to their mother and father? If so, children would be the slaves of their parents practically indefinitely. Having children would effectively pass the debt on to them- a pyramid scheme with human lives.
With the Friends everywhere and so many desperate people, minor trades with them would be common. A year off my life, for the speed to escape. A finger off my right hand, for the slots to turn my way just this once. My ability to see the color red

>With the Friends everywhere and so many desperate people, minor trades with them would be common. A year off my life, for the speed to escape. A finger off my right hand, for the slots to turn my way just this once. My ability to see the color red
of course there is only so much that one person can give before they lose it all and have to start taking, eventually they just become another Friend on the other side
>>
>>36198205
Shit, lost the tail end of my post.
My ability to see the color red, for a strongbox only I can open. Stuff like that.
If a child does not owe its parents, then even if slaves transfer their debt to their owners, children would make ideal slaves since they're immaculate; all the debt incurred by their existence would accrue onto their parents. Selling a child into slavery would be common among the desperate; they might even have children for this purpose. Stealing children would also be common- another impetus towards forming clans and gangs and forting up as much as possible.
In short, the Shadowlands- divided between rival gangs, booby-trapped to hell and back, child slavery everywhere. Fun place.
>>
>>36198281
I don't think the Friends are human -- they seem to have the ability to grant supernatural powers. It's a good idea for a villain though.

Actually, what the hell are the Friends in this universe? Are they like the Demons that Chernobog has under his power, or are they something else entirely? I'd say we need to get a cosmology together but this entire setting is a clusterfuck.

Also on boss-villains: They really ought not to be defeatable by Strikes, or they need an absolute boatload of them. Give the players an alternate, tricky means to defeat them. For example, No One in the playtest we just did should really only be defeatable by making him break his promise to the Friends.
>>
>>36198330
Yes. I support this.

I just wrote a bunch of various love songs for muh archives and I feel mildly creepy now.
>>
>>36198330
what I was getting at is that once you have given up everything else you are present with a choice; give up your humanity and act asa servant to the Friends forever, or be dragged into hell. One removes your debts, the other kills you, I think we all know which choice someone is going to make

So, did we come to a conclusion regarding Clarisse the Beastling?
>>
>>36199017
I think so? She was the kid of the Beast and Belle, conceived under dubious circumstances before she got brainwashed into being Gaston's happy housewife.
>>

Bell got brainwashed, that is.
>>
>>36199061

I'd say that the reason she's still a Beast and hasn't turned human is because, due to having Gaston for a father and a brainwashed zombie for a mother, she's never really felt twoo wuv. As such, curse stays.

I liked the idea of Clarisse the Beast, and I think that her character idea works both as Gaston's "family secret" kept locked up in the basement while he and Belle raise up her strapping half-brothers, or as an almost wild or feral child raised by the surviving enchanted objects in the basements and caves below the burnt out ruins if her Father's castle.

>>36199231

It could be that because she'd never experienced true love she was never made human, but personally I think the more fun option would be to have her BELIEVE that she will be made human through the true love of her parents, friends or romantic interest, but have that not be the case and have her Beastliness be "simple" fairy tale genetics. It sets her up either for a crushing disappointment that the PCs have to deal with, or an uplifting lesson about being proud of yourself that they can reach her.

I think the moral of this campaign should be; no matter who you are, whatever your gender, race religion or sexual preference you will always find someone who cares for you as much as you do for them

Good morning all, Atlantean Writefag here. Got another bit written out if you guys are interested.
>>
>>36199452

Right! It falls into line with what some Anons have been talking about in previous threads, where the different campaigns have different twists on how table top RPGs usually end:

>Arendelle: The BBEG you need to defeat is not necessarily evil and doesn't actually need to be killed.

>Hun Dynastic China: Just because the evil BBEG needs killing doesn't mean his death immediately restores order.

>Clarisse the Beast: The "curse" the character needs to break isn't an actual curse, but the belief that she is cursed.

The moral is, as you say, that what you are and what you look like doesn't matter as long as you have a good heart and can give and receive love.

The situation fared no better as the squad moved room-by-room, hallway-by-hallway. Evidence of animals having entered the castle were everywhere, from torn tapestries and half-eaten furniture to animal droppings. Snow had caused the roof to sag in some locations, in others outright causing the roof to fail—the largest hole the squad located being in the main ballroom.

More statues appeared throughout the castle—seemingly concentrated in the main ballroom but dissipating from there. The occasional one or two were found throughout the hallways, but all the statues found seemed to have their faces set in screams of terror or wails of sorrow. “This doesn’t sit right with me—not one bit.” Allyson’s pale blue eyes focused on the power selector on her lightning carbine, reassuring herself it was set to medium strength. Enough to easily rip through ice and snow and flesh, but not enough to explode meatier targets outright. “Why leave the bodies of the citizens standing in place around the castle? You’d have thought she would have the decency to put ‘em in the ground.”

“Perhaps there’s something we don’t understand about her situation.” Catherine had done away with the scarf and the thick parka indoors, allowing herself greater mobility. She was admiring the paintings adorning the hallway the squad was moving through as she spoke. “The last flurry of messages that were sent out before Arendelle shut its borders and the ice storm consumed it indicated that the newly anointed queen had gone through an undue amount of stress and trauma—though it was never detailed any further than that. This expedition is as much about solving the mystery of what happened to Arendelle as it is about opening trade routes and securing an ally in this re—”

The rhythmic thump of footsteps brought rifles to shoulders and hushed conversation instantly. Zoe, who had taken point after they had searched the lower levels, flattened against the wall to her right, the squad following suit. “Please tell me someone else heard that,” Catherine mouthed out.

Thach nodded, placing a finger to her lips. The squad inched forward down the hallway, ready to fire at the slightest provocation. The hallway ended at a corner, turning right. As Zoe crept up to the corner, he swore he heard humming. She dared to peek around the corner, spying the barest trace of a blue woman, bounding down the hall. As she shifted back into position, the floor creaked under her boots. “Hello?” The voice called out from down the hall. Zoe sucked in air between her teeth. Her rifle, too cumbersome for close quarters, was thankfully strapped across her back. “Is someone there?” The sniper quietly clicked the safety off her pistol. Ten feet.

“You don’t have to be afraid.” Five feet.

She licked her lips in anticipation.

“I won’t hurt you.” Two feet.

Her grip tightens around the handgun.

“I’m a frie—” Now.

In a burst of explosive energy, Zoe slammed the full force of her body into the woman who had just turned the corner, carrying her across the hall and into the opposite wall. Her left arm braced against the assailant’s neck, her pistol against the assailant’s face. Though short in stature, her wiry frame failed to give away the strength the woman possessed. The assailant, beyond Zoe’s predictions, didn’t struggle, didn’t squirm.

Instead, it chose to smile. “Hi!” The voice that came from the figure was surprisingly human. “I’m Anna. What’s your name?”

Might make a good starting campaign for characters tied to the Elite Global Huntsmen Club: Gaston himself tasking you with discreetly putting down a Beast that he ought to have dealt with personally a long time ago. What a surprise for the players when he sends them not to the forest or to some castle ruins, but to the basement of his own manor house.

“You’d best keep quiet right now or I’ll blow away that pretty...blue...face.” Zoe blinked and finally took in the assailant she was holding against the wall. Her hair was braided into neat pigtails, and she appeared to be wearing winter apparel. Zoe could just barely pick up the little dots that could have passed as freckles dusting the girl’s face. She relented in her grip, holstering her pistol. “Son of a bitch, they can walk and talk, too.”

“Nope, just me~!” The voice rang out. “Well, and Olaf. And the snowlems. And Elsa—but she never leaves her castle.”

“Wait.” Catherine said, walking up to the animated ice statue. “Did you say your name was Anna?”

“That’s me!”

“Princess Anna of Arendelle—that Anna?”

“Well, yes! And no. Kind of?” The ice statue shrugged her shoulders. “It’s complicated. The actual Anna—the living, breathing princess? She’s dead. Frozen into one of those ice statues right there in the harbor. I’m her, but at the same time not her. Get it?”

“Saints alive,” Bernadette whispered. “So the rumors were true.”

“Rumors?” Womack cocked his eyebrow. “What rumors?”

“Rumors that Princess Anna’s death was part of what drove Queen Elsa mad.” Catherine pushed her glasses up the bridge of her nose.

“And who are you guys, anyway?” The ice statue looked Catherine up and down. “You don’t look familiar, not one bit.” She eyed the stylized, red “A” patch on the sleeve of the emissary’s uniform.

“We’re from across the sea,” Catherine said. “We’re here from the empire of Atlantis to see if your sister, Queen Elsa, would be open to establishing trade with our leader.”

“Ooh, you wanna talk to Elsa?” The Anna statue cringed. “She’s not really good with people. Y’see, the last time she had to talk anyone—”

“We know.” Thach said, walking to the fore. “She froze the entire country in a new Ice Age.”

“Well not just that!” Anna stretched out her arms. “I’ve seen all sorts of people come through there! Adventurers, knights, bounty hunters and mercenaries—all of them wanting to speak with Elsa!”

“And I’m assuming she didn’t give them the...warmest response,” Bernadette surmised.

“Yeahhh.” The Anna statue twiddled her fingers. “Ice powers and social awkwardness—don’t mix that well.”

“We noticed.” Zoe crossed her arms.

“Wait—how come you’re the only ice statue that’s moving?” Kavita asked. “We’ve probably run into at least a hundred of the things scattered around the castle and there’s probably even more in town. All of them are about as lively as a Christmas goose.”

The Anna statue frowned. “Honestly, I wouldn’t be able to tell you. Power of true love between two sisters? Anyone’s guess, really.”

“Right—Love.” Kavita nodded. “Completely reasonable answer.”

“Exactly!” Anna exclaimed.

“Makes sense to me,” Lahey said.

“Ohh, Zeke,” Kavita tutted, patting the man on the back.

“Okay, wait.” Allyson cut in. “Anna. The Snow Queen, Elsa—she’s your sister?”

“Well duuuuh, little Miss Bossy—haven’t you been paying attention?”

“Anna.” The mercenary captain paused, taking a deep breath. “Would you happen to know where her castle is?”

“Sure I do!” Anna quipped. “Every so often I go up to the castle doors and ask her if she’d let me in.” Anna’s cast her face downward. “She hasn’t so far. B-but that hasn’t stopped me from trying!”

Allyson locked her pale blues on Anna’s transluscent blues. “Would you kindly take us up the mountain?”

The ice statue furrowed her brow in thought. “Hmmmmm.”

“Anna, we don’t mean your sister any harm.” The emissary tentatively laid a hand on the statue’s shoulder. “We just want to talk with her—no fuss, no strings attached. If she says no to our proposal, we leave—simple as that.”

“Or shoot our way out,” Zoe snarked.

“Either way, Anna—will you help us?”

So what are we doing with the other things from Fantasia? It contained stuff besides gods of destruction and evil.
>>
>>36199738
Magicians apprentice mickey? Maybe
The creatures from the Nutcracker segment? Sure
Greek gods are already covered.
The fucking ballerina hippos? No
The death of the dinosaurs? How?
>>
>>36199758
Possibly not Mickey. Still, finding the Sorcerer's Tower would be pretty cool.
Also, the death of the dinosaurs could be that dinosaur island was once a lot bigger. Then some shit went down, a bunch of dinos got wrecked and now they're stuck on Madagascar with everything shut down.
>>
>>36199783
Also, if this is the Bad End, would the tower be all flooded and shit, filled with insane sentient brooms? Would Mickey be kill?
>>
>>36199758

>Magicians apprentice mickey?
The Magician's sanctuary could be the last safe place in Cherry Bomb's domain and be the final staging area for the heroes and allies to launch their assault from.

>The creatures from the Nutcracker segment?
I'll have to rewatch Fantasia to remember these guys. If nothing else, these threads have made me rewatch a lot of good movies.

>Greek gods?
You better believe we've got them in mind.

>The fucking ballerina hippos?
Should the PCs fall into a drunken or drugged sleep they might dream of ballerina hippos but that's it.

>The death of the dinosaurs?
Maybe something from the oral traditions of the living dinosaurs? Provided they can speak and sing, of course.

The tower might be a flooded ruin, or there could simply be evidence that "whatever apprentice was in charge of keeping the place clean made a terrible mess of things once upon a time" but I don't think that Mickey himself ought to be invoked directly.

Admiral Swearengen sighed. “Now just—just tell me again what you’ve found out, Thach. Nice and slow.”

“We found, the, uh, princess sir.” The captain’s voice buzzed over the speakers.

“The dead princess.”

“Correct, sir.”

“But she’s alive now because of—and let me get this right—‘the power of true love between two sisters’?”

The mercenary captain hesitated, her face scrunched up in a look of indecision. Allyson looked beside her to see Womack shaving a corner off one of his D-rations and plucking the bits of chocolate into his mouth. He answered Thach’s confused look with a shrug before going back to his snacking. “That’s...really our best guess at this point, Admiral.”

The admiral slapped his face with the palm of his free hand, groaning. “Thach, I hope to God you aren’t reporting in from the wine cellar of that castle.”

“Surprisingly no, sir. But I do think you and President Rourke will appreciate the bottles of 1872 Chateau Berger we’ve secured.”

The admiral’s eyebrows shot up in surprise. “An 1872?”

Thach smiled, twisting the aged bottle in her hands before jamming it back down into a pile of snow among several other bottles. “Damn good year if I say so myself—very robust, richly layered flavors of plum and cinnamon, with notes of oak and black cherry.”

The admiral paused, mentally tasting the wine before shaking himself from his reverie. “Well thank you for securing a couple bottles for me, Captain, but I must ask you what in the world you’re planning to do with the resurrected princess.”

“She’s taking us up the mountain, sir. All the way up to Elsa’s castle.”

The admiral stroked his mustache. “And you can trust her to keep her word?”

Thach looked back to the rest of her squad, huddled around a fire. Zeke had brought out his harmonica, while Catherine and Anna sang a duet in what she could only guess was Anna’s native language. Kavita sat contentedly, enjoying the music. Zoe had field stripped her pistol, bobbing her head to the music as she oiled down the barrel and slide. Pan, ever watchful, circled around the outer edge of the fire. “She doesn’t exactly seem like the type to lie, Admiral. Pan stared her in the eyes for a good minute before saying ‘her words ring true’.”

“Yes, the Chinaman,” Swearengen huffed. “Well I do hope you start your journey up soon. Weather wizards aboard are telling me this break in the storm’s bound to last for two, three days tops. Best start making headway now and keep in touch. Bellerophon out.”

“Acknowledged, Bellerophon. Grizzly will keep you posted. Over and out.” Allyson let go of the receiver and clipped it back on the side of the radio backpack.

“Where do we go from here, Cap?” Tyreese said, stuffing the rest of his chocolate bar into his pack.

“I’m not sure,” the captain replied. “I’m getting that same feeling that I got in New Orleans.”

“I thought you liked my uncles,” Bernadette pouted.

“I said New Orleans—not Courir de Mardi Gras.” Allyson smiled. “And your uncles, food besides, are goddamn creepy. Between the antler crowns and the masks I thought someone was gonna get murdered during the festivities.”

“They don’t mean anythin’ by it,” Bernadette chuckled. “They’re good people down there.” She looked toward the ice statue singing by the campfire, the light causing her skin to sparkle in the growing dusk. “There’s good people everywhere, Cap. Sometimes you just need to give’ em a chance.”

The two started back to the campire. Allyson craned her neck upwards, watching the steam filter between her lips when she exhaled. “There’s a lot riding on this, Bernadette.”

“Then it’s good to know the mission’s in good hands, ma’am.” The French woman nodded.

A flash of red illuminates the night sky, catching the squad off guard. The Anna statue gasped. “Oh wow, fireworks? I didn’t know you guys brought fireworks!”

“Must be Jun’s squad signaling the all-clear,” Zoe said, reassembling her pistol and racking the slide.

“It was,” Bernadette said, walking up to the group beside Allyson, one of her headset’s earphones cupped against her face. “Traffic on the airwaves is confirming as much.

Allyson cleared her throat. “Now I’m pretty sure Womack told you already, but just in case—I want you all to get some rest. We have an early start tomorrow and I’ll need all of you in top condition. Singh, Lahey—you’ve got first watch. Rotate every four hours.” She turned to her demolitions expert. “Womack?”

“Yes’m?” He answered.

“Answer Jun’s call. Let the admiral know he can start bringing his toys into town.”

“Aye aye.” The man nodded, setting down his lightning rifle and unholstering the grenade launcher strapped along his back. He thumbed the locking latch to the right, breaking open the launcher and allowing him to insert a flare round straight into the breech. The launcher locked back into position with a solid “clack”, after which he brought the launcher to his shoulder, aimed upward, and fired.

The red flare already in the air was joined by its twin several seconds later, casting the ghost town in pale red and signaling a small army of engineers and drivers to begin mobilizing. The tent city outside of the Bellerophon would be gone by morning, the only indication it was even there being the outlines of tents marked out with stakes.

Admittedly, what the Atlantean expedition is doing "setting up shop" would probably be considered military invasion by any other modernized nation, so let's just be thankful there isn't a UN in this universe and that the next best modernized nation is only up to leverguns and trains with the rest of the world divided among power hungry monarchs, religious zealouts, wannabe warlords, and literal demons.

At the moment, it might be good to wait on the crunch-work until the folk who participated in the alpha test last night come back, but there are always things to do in these threads. Off the top of my head, I can think of:

>Statting and fluffing out NPC allies for the different Lands.

>Brainstorming campaigns and individual adventure modules set in the different Lands.

>Any and all prose, lyric or illustrative works that spring to mind.
>>

Unfortunately, I have nothing to add at this time, but I'm going to keep monitoring the thread to see what I can add once more people return.
>>
All tie-breakers should be solved this way:

"In the case of a tie between two Rolls, the highest roll is the one with the highest bonus. If it's still a tie, flip a coin to determine which roll should be considered the highest. "

A good rule for Initiative would be:

"To decide which character involved in the action gets to act first, everyone rolls 3d6 + Initiative. The Initiative of each character is equal to the sum of his Agility, his Intelligence and his Sensibility. Initiative gets its own spot on the character sheet, since it could be individually raised by Traits or Powers."
>>
>>36201144
Sounds good, but why Agility Intelligence and Sensibility? Just make it Agility.
>>
>>36201217
I'd presume so smart guys and sensibe guys can act as well.
>>
>>36201217

>why Agility Intelligence and Sensibility? Just make it Agility.

Because only using Agility would create some problems.

First, that would favour only Nimble Guys, while this way we are helping out Smart Guy and Sensible Guy.

Second, it would give too much weight to the roll, which is dangerous in a system that relies on mooks being a dime a dozen.

Third, it would go against what Agility is in this system: mostly hand - eye coordination. Reflexes and reaction speed are something you get out of Intelligence and Sensibility.
>>
>>36201217
>Sounds good, but why Agility Intelligence and Sensibility? Just make it Agility

I like this choice because, like the Anon above says, it allows smart and sensible guys to ac also, and does make a bit of sense.

>Agility: Is naturally quick to react first.
>Intelligence: Can spot an opening or weakness and exploit it.
>Sensibility: Just has a gut feeling that tells him that he needs to react NOW and not later.

>>
>>36201353
>>36201311

As for the villains, something occured to me

I think in order to be defeated, the villains should have A) To run out of strikes

and B) To have a certain condition fullfilled

The Headless horseman for example, that anon posted that he could only be defeated over running water, but you still needed to chip away at all its strikes

No One, in Nob's game, in theory needed to be made over-use his powers so the Friends would eat him, not only get beaten up a lot

Slap a second, more specific condition for villains

Make the TN for them 25~30
>>
>>36201413

Oh... that's an interesting idea. It's almost like the way that ideals/goals work, but in reverse.
>>
>>36201441

Well, it makes sense doesn't it? You can rarely defeat the villain in a disney movie in a simple way.

Some would be simple enough, like scoring both social strikes and combat strikes. Maybe the social strike has to be directed at a certain nerve in particular, who knows?

Others would be trickier and you'd need occult knowledge or maybe a high Sensibility + Insight roll to figure out what to do

Of course, you can just wail on the boss until the Smart/Sensible guys figure out how to do it, that's pretty fun too.

"You stupid--!"
"Yeah yeah, give us a minute."
>Strong Guy punches Jaffar in the face and sends him to sleep for two more rounds
>"Did you find anythingalready?!"
>"Give us three more rounds!"
>>
>>36201413
>>36201441
You could also have it so that in order to defeat a villain, each of the characters must fulfill one of their own ideals in some way during the fight.

For instance, let's say the Atlantean Mechanic Mahrikatohka was fighting one-on-one against a mook or toady. Her ideals are to:

1. Experience the world
2. Fix broken machines
3. Get into trouble.

In order to defeat this enemy, she would have to not only get them to run out of strikes, but to do so in a way that incorporates one of her ideals, such as:

1. Using a skill or bit of knowledge she'd learned in her world travels.
2. Repairing a contraption that captures, banishes or blows up her enemy.
3. Uses a roguish trick or prank to catch the mook off guard.
>>

>>36201489
Sounds annoying as shit. Some villains should have secret weanesses, but everyone? Fuck that
>>
>>36201513
>>36201489

True. Thinking about it a bit more, this sounds more like a campaign end-boss applicable mechanic if anything. It sounded good in my head but in application it really would get annoying. Thanks for pointing it out.
>>
So, I'm thinking of starting to stat some of the Kings. Anybody got any ideas for interesting mechanics I can them? I considered giving Shere Khan a fear thing where players would have to roll a save to not get paralysed with fear on their turn before they could act, but that just sounds boring and irritating because anybody not resistant to that kind of thing just can't do shit.
>>
>>36201513
Yeah, we definitely don't need to make every mook and lackey a puzzle boss.
>>
>>36201513
>>36201536
>>36201636

Not EVERYONE, just the bosses and shit. Maybe a mini boss if it is a high-tier campaign

>>36201625
What if it is a timed thing? In five turns or so, the fear strikes in and the sensible or insightful players can roll to detect that something's wrong?
>>
>>36201625

I can see how this will be a challenge seeing as how each king is very different in terms if their powers and the win conditions against them. Was Elsa statted out in a previous thread? I feel like she was. She would be a prime example of a king or queen in this case being more affected by song and social interaction than by brute force.
>>
>>36201625

Kings should be annoying as shit to fight for people that got to them unprepared.

If you want to fight Shere Kan, Ruler of India, you better research his powers and find a way to counter them before walking up to him.
>>
>>36201657

We already have three tiers of PC: Zero, On-A-Roll and Hero. What about three tiers of enemies: Mooks, Lackies, and Bosses?
>>
>>36201625
Horned King should fight the players on top of a pile of dead bodies, which he keeps there as a defense mechanism. As soon as the fight begins, roll 3d6 every 6 rounds. If the result is more than 14, roll another 1d6. This is the number of Cauldronborn that spawn in random locations.
>>
>>36201695
Actually, make that every 3 rounds. What this means is that the players had better break the Cauldron and kill Horny quickly, before they get zerg rushed by cauldronborn.

>>36202350

I've been trying to rework the idea a little in my head, because I've jumped on board with the idea that the She-Beast is Belle's daughter and not Belle herself. No major changes made, but it does raise more questions.
>>
>>36197230
>Right, but it's DISNEY, so every character should sing to express any kind of emotion.
I wouldn't say that at all. Songs either set the stage, establishing a mood for a new location or character, or they serve to set up a critical change in a place or character. Two characters that didn't like each other fall in love? That gets a song. A new character is introduced? That gets a song. A character than used to be silly becomes serious after someone he loves dies? That gets a song.

Fights don't usually involve singing in Disney movies.

Also, it's important to remember that it's not always the characters that sing: nearly the entire songbook of Tarzan, for example, was sung by a "narrator". Many iconic songs like "The Circle of Life" are sung by a narrator as opposed to a character.
>>
>>36201692
Mooks, Lackies, The Inner Circle, Villain.
Gives you some wiggle room with both mooks being meatshields only having numbers on their side, lackies being the ones who enforce the villains rule. The Inner Circle are those who are the most trusted servants, lieutenants, and advisers to the villain, like Oogie-Boogie would have Lock, Shock, and Barrel being his inner circle with some corrupted forms of the Halloween town folks. Inner circle would be subject to the weakness system but it would be very easy, like the three I mentioned would both have to sustain strikes and you'd have to break up their ability to work together and cause infighting. Villains of course have the weakness system in place so that you can't just wail on them for a win, Disney don't work like that. Oogie-Boogie for example would require strikes capable of cutting him open and a way to prevent all the bugs from going around and possessing more shit.
>>

After Villain, I'd say, should come King, containing all the minor or less powerful kings, like Rourke, Shan Yu, Facilier, Davy Jones, etc. Then there's God - Ursula, Jafar, Maleficent and Hades. Then there's Godslayer, a tier containing only Chernabog and the Firebird. Maybe Aurora Borealis, because he's supposedly pretty powerful, right?
(Please note: God tier does not mean "they are literally a god", but it does mean they could stand up to a god. Jafar would be a low-level god, but if you're the mightiest sorcerer in the world then you can probably stand a chance against Hades. Meanwhile, Maleficent is queen of every single Fae. All the shit fae can do? She can do that and then some. Elsa would probably be in between God and King, varying depending on what mood she's in.)

Thanks! I only wrote the second one, though. I'd say the classification of each individual villain should be done by the thread. And I'm considering renaming Godslayer - you might kill Hades, Jafar and Ursula but that doesn't mean you can 1v1 Cherno Alpha.

Sung to the tune of “Unworthy of your love” – Assassins, 1991
SVERD
I am nothing,
You are wind and water and sky
I wonder
Tell me, Elsa
How is it that one loves?
I can swim oceans
I can move mountains
I would do anything for you
But I don’t know how to go about loving you.

I am unworthy of your love
Of this I can swear
I’ll never be worthy of your love
It is the cross that I must bear.
Set me free
How can I learn to love
I plea.

ELSA
I feel nothing,
Only touch wind and cold and snow
Yet also
From my blood and warming bones
What is love?
I can feel fire
I can drink poison
But my heart is who I’m talking to
I don’t know how to feel about you

Maybe I don’t know how to feel at all
Looking at a now unfrozen sky
I see that I’ve done nothing but feel
Maybe if I could only learn to love,
Set me free.

SVERD
I would come take you from this life
ELSA
I would come join you in this life
SVERD
I would live at the edge of a knife
ELSA
I would come walk with you through hell
SVERD
I swear I’d die for you
ELSA
I’d never lie to you
SVERD
Even though
ELSA
Even though
SVERD
I will always know
ELSA
I will always know
SVERD
I am unworthy of your love
ELSA
I can’t be worthy of your love

(SIMULTANEOUS SINGNG)
SVERD
I want to be worthy of your love.
ELSA
I know that you’re worthy of my love.
BOTH
Want to find some way to learn to love
Wait for me
I swear I’ll somehow learn to love
If you set me free.

Sing to the tune of “Out Tonight” – Rent, 2009 version, heavily modified
SVERD
What’s the time?
Well it’s gotta be close to midnight
My body’s talking to me
Saying ‘I can feel the danger’.

It says ‘I wanna disrupt a crime
Wanna break up some fight
Wanna put on a robe and help
Up some stranger’

I’ve had a knack from way back
At ignoring the rules and trying to fix the
Game
Get-up life’s too quick

I know someplace sick
Where we can just stay by the flames
We don’t need any money
I always get in for free
You can get in too
If you get in with me

Let’s just stop tonight
I can’t go out tonight
No time to play
Let’s run away
We won’t be back
Before it’s New Years Day
Or else let’s just stay here tonight.

Let’s not go tonight
I just wanna stay tonight
Tonight I won’t prowl
Won’t be an owl
Just take my hand and together we can howl,
Out tonight

Let’s just stay here tonight
Don’t forsake me tonight
Let you make me tonight
Tonight-tonight-tonight!

The entire point of his existence (Before learning about Churned Borg and taking it upon himself to save the world) is to return to and restore Arrendelle, and based off the nature of his character and that of Elsa, it only makes sense to write a couple of love songs.

I think ill try to paraody a song

Sing to the tune of Low Places

Blame it all on my roots
I showed up in boots
And ruined your black occult affair
The last one you know
The last one to show
I was the last one
You thought you'd see there
And I saw the surprise
And the fear in their eyes
When I took my gun in hand
And I roasted you
Said, honey, we may be through
But you'll never see run

'Cause I've got friends in dark places
Where the debts run wild
And the friends chase good away
But I'll be okay

I'm not big on righteous graces
But i seem to be the last the oasis
Oh, I've got friends in dark places

Might try to finish the rest of the song later on

I know everyone likes Les Mis and this is one of the most recognizable showtunes in existence, so I swallowed my pride a little and converted it into something about the PCs convincing Rourke to help them.
Sing to the tune of “Do you hear the people sing” – Les Miserables, 1987 version
PARTY LEAD
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing the song of all true men
It is the music of a people
Who will fight until the end!
When the beating of all hearts
Echo the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!

STRAIGHT MAN/STRONG GUY
Will you join in our crusade?
Who will be STRONG and stand with me?
Somewhere beyond those jaded walls
Is there a world you long you see?

SMART/SENSIBLE GUY
Then join in the fight
That will give you the right to be free!

ALL
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing the son of all true men
It is the music of the people
Who will fight right till the end!
When the beating of all hearts
Echo the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!

NIMBLE/CHARISMATIC GUY
Will you give all you can give
Just so we can advance a step
Some will fall and some will live
Who will come to take their chance?
The blood of the evil
Will spell out the steps of the dance!

ALL AND ROURKE
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing the song of all true men.
It is the music of a people
Who will fight right till the end!
When the beating of all hearts
Echo the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!

It hurts. It hurts inside.

So, just for clarification purposes, is Sverd actually in love with Elsa, or is he just devoted to her?
Also to you and Jeremiah, you don't mind if I keep using them for Disney team prime stories, do you?
>>
>>36203596
Sverd's never actually seen Elsa in person, and he's not devoted to her in particular - just the fact that she is Queen of Arrendelle makes her worthy of his devotion, in his eyes. The locket is something he bought from a small trinket shop as he was fleeing Arrendelle from the deadly winter, to remind him to return one day. It's just that there's a great potential for CHIVALRY and HONOR upon meeting her.

>>
>>36203640
None of that is set solely in stone, of course. That's just my general ideas based around Sverd, as he's actually a year younger than Elsa (Who's 21 in the movies), and since he didn't actually get to come down on Coronation, it wouldn't make much sense for him to have met Elsa or anything. He's just following off his Father's words, much like the rest of his entire ideology and mindset.

Also, PLEASE continue the Disney Team Prime stories. It's some top-tier writefaggotry.
>>
>>36203640

You know what would actually be really great? A song in which Ice Anna is urging Sverd on in his HEROIC and CHIVALROUS quest to cure his Queen's madness, hinting every few lines that she's actively trying to promote a love connection.

Sing to the tune of “Fixer Upper” - Frozen
ICE ANNA
What’s the issue, then?
Why are you holding back from getting there?
Is it the cold and biting snow?
Or maybe just your huge ego?
Or all the talk about
The frozen corpses there?

And even though I can tell you care
It doesn’t seem like you’re all there
But I’ve never met a fellow who’s so
Totally incomplete!
So you’re a bit of a fixer-upper,
So you’ve got a few flaws,
Like your peculiar brain dear,
That thing with the alligator,
That’s a little outside of nature’s laws!
So you’re a bit of a fixer-upper
But I’m certain of
I can fix this fixer-upper
Up with a little bit of love!

SVERD
Love? What are you
Off on about?
We’ve got a real, actual problem here.

ICE ANNA
I’ll say! So tell me then,
Is it how you’re devastatingly scared?
Or that you’re socially impaired?
But, man have I got just the girl for you!
SVERD
What?
ICE ANNA
Are you acting so dang causeless
Because of your unmanly blondness
Or the way you try to hide
The fact you’re clearly honest goods?
SVERD
Hey!
ICE ANNA
So you’re a bit of a fixer-upper
And you’ve got a couple bugs
Your repressed infatuation is confirmation
Of your desperation for human love
So you’re a bit of a fixer-upper
But I know just what to do
The way to fix this fixer-upper
Is just with you-know-who!

SVERD
ENOUGH! I just need you
To get us there, okay?

(Beat)

FINALE NEXT POST
>>
>>36205166

ICE ANNA
So you’re a bit of a fixer-upper
It’s a minor thing
Your lack of patience is just a need for embracement
And by the way, I don’t see no ring!
So you’re a bit of a fixer-upper
You brain’s a bit betwixt
Shove your need to prove out of the way and
The whole thing will be fixed!

I’m not saying you can really change ‘em
Cause people don’t really change
I’m only saying that love’s a force
That’s powerful and strange
People make bad choices if they’re mad
Or scared, or stressed
Throw a little love their way
And you’ll bring out their best!
True love brings out their best!
Everyone’s a bit of a fixer-upper,
That’s what it’s all about!

We need each other to raise
Us up and round us out.
Everyone’s a bit of a fixer-upper,
But when push comes to shove

The only fixer-upper fixer
That can fix a fixer-upper is

True! True!
True, true, true!
Love!

General results:
Initiative is 1d6+Agility. Charming Guys have a power to make it 1d6+Charm.
Attacker gets priority over defender on a tie.
Defense on mooks needs to be pumped to 22.
Villains need to be tougher, either through puzzle-bossness or via having lots of strikes -- players burn through them very quickly -- perhaps come up with some Traits that grant +Prevent Harm or +Endure?

>>
>>36206101
We already talked about why, it was a good explanation.>>36201282
>>36201286
Intelligent ans sensible characters should be able toa ct too

>>36205992
Villains should just have a ton of strikes, but also have a creative solution that allows the PCs to beat them without getting rekt, like burning No One's paintings, destroying a power source, bringing a weakness learned through their adventures, etc.

>>36206061
No, I don't like that very much. Agreeing with Nob, initiative should generally go, if people have formatted somewhat generic characters stat-wise, Special circumstance/Player who rushed in first>Nimble Guy>Strong Guy>Charismatic Guy>Sensible or Smart guy
>>
>>36206137
That's....
Not really a good reason....
Combat should be balanced so it's more than one round, not just forcing Intelligent and Sensible characters to the top of the acting list.
>>
>>36206147
>>36206137
Why nimble guy first? Initiative is not about how fast you are, is about reaction. Sensibility is clearly more important yo it.
>>
>>36206174
>why nimble guy first
>initiative is about reaction
>somehow this is sensibility and not agility
>>
>>36206174
Because... that's their entire schtick is being fast and flexible?
>>
>>36206162

I don't think we would be forcing Sensible Guy and Intelligent Guy to the top of the acting list: we would just be giving relevance to more than one Attribute.

Sorry, but I also prefer the Intelligence plus Sensibility option.

>>36206192

You are confusing Agility with D&D's Dexterity. Sensibility is about reacting to the world around you.

This anon

>>36201286

explained it best. It's a good concept.
>>
>>36206236
I fail to see how knowing where a weakness is and how to exploit it, or knowing that you do indeed need to act now would actually make you physically faster, in comparison to just being fast and having a quick reaction time.
>>
>>36206234
>>36206192
Pretty stupid reason: running fast doesn't mean being the first to react. not on its own, at least: being quick of mind and perceptive should be just as improtant
>>36206236
Right, we are not playing D&D. Agility is not dexterity
>>
>>36206236
>>36206298
>I don't think we would be forcing sensible guy and intelligent guy to the top of the list

Then you clearly underestimate the creation system. Sensible and Intelligent guys usually have very high if not maxed Sensibility or Intelligence, but Dextrous characters tend to only get up to ~10. Generally, this would make the characters who are knowledgeable and perceptive quicker on their feet than the person whose entire schtick is being QUICK ON THEIR FEET.
>>
>>36206294

Being perceptive to your surroundings means that you can immediately pick up how shit is going down and then react to it first.

>>36206319

First, that doesn't sound right: Nimble Guys can put everything in Agility and be done with it, since they can do pretty much everything with it. Intelligent and Sensible Guys still need to put something in Robustness of Agility to work with Prevent Harm. Also, Nimble Guys are better in combat than Sensible and Intelligent Guys, so I see no reason to leave the first Initiative spot to them pretty much all the time: 1d6+Agility is just insane.
>>
>>36206236
Ehhhhh....not...really? Lemme go at it.

>>36201286
>opening or a weakness
That doesn't not necessarily mean that an intelligent person should be able to react because he 'saw an opening'. The way this is phrased brings to mind more an image of the intelligent guy going more last-ish. hanging back and studying. identifying weak points, openings and the like and THEN exploiting it.

>gut feeling to react now
Okay cool. What if its wrong though? What if his gut feeling says 'STRIKE NOW' and he botches up everything? Or his instinct is wrong about what to react to? Like instead of jumping away from a bomb underneath him, he ducks?

The way I see it, sensible and/or intelligent guys should maybe, if the GM lets them, get a chance to recognize that combat might starting (from stuff like identifying an ambush, getting a feeling that the guys in front of them are leading into a trap, etc) and should optionally provide a check to see if they get a bonus for initiative.
>>
>>36206397
>nimble guys better in combat than sensible and intelligent guys.
Okay, so you don't know the system. You realize that physical damage isn't everything that deals a strike right?
>>
Calm down boys.

Being the one who proposed the 3d6 + Agility + Intelligence + Sensibility system, I personally think it works pretty well.

Still, I can also see why someone would want to just go with Agility alone, since it would be more in line with Agility as everything that influences reaction speed.

Can we just make a strawpoll for it, instead of going around bickering like headless chickens?
>>
>>36206477
The 3d6 system isn't good either. 1d6 makes things less BELL CURVE-y.
>>
>>36206477

>>
>>36206421

That's why it's Agility AND Sensibility.

>>36206445
But Strong Guys and Nimble Guys are still better at dealing them, since they get weapons. And since every one uses weapons to attack, Robustness and Agility are better at avoiding Strikes.

>>36206484

>playing a system that used 3d6 for everything else

>Weapons give bonuses because people wear armor. Using Social is much, much better than using weapons, so much that we were considering making it take longer to hit by social.

>we are using 3d6 for most of our stuff, so using 1d6 for this one roll would actually make it harder to remember.

Why do I have to remember a different rules when everything else uses 3d6?
>>
>>36206788
I'm not really attached to the 1d6 system, honestly. I think it would make things more balanced in combat, but if people really want 3d6 for it for some reason I guess we could do it.

>>36206825
There are lots of rules that don't use 3d6. What are you on about?
>>
Things are getting way too heated around here. Can we stop calling each other retard for a moment?

I'm sure we can talk about Initiative without being children about it.
>>
>>36206825
>>36206788
The more dice you roll, the less significant your modifiers become. We roll 1d6 for intitiative and 3d6 for everything else because we want modifiers to be more significant for inititiative than other rolls.
>>
Can't we just make each side roll a d6 and whoever scores higher wins? It's basically flipping a coin
>>
>>36206847

>but if people really want 3d6 for it for some reason

But Nob, I gave you a reason: because it's easier to remember as a rule. It goes along with most of our rolls.
>>
>>36206879
>The more dice you roll, the less significant your modifiers become. We roll 1d6 for intitiative and 3d6 for everything else because we want modifiers to be more significant for inititiative than other rolls.
Why? Who goes first should always stay the same but who hits and who gets hit should change a lot? It makes no sesne as a reason.

>>36206881

Even worse idea: now nothing matters.
>>
I still think maybe we should give the option to use another stat instead of Agility for the roll. I just don't want Agility to become the godstat like in so many RPGs.
>>
>>36206881

Now this is just being stupid on purpose.
>>
>>36206942
Charming characters will get the ability to use Charm so that they can get their Deceit on.
>>36206881
That make initiative entirely random. Would work in some games but not this one.
>>
>>36206922
Because we want initiative to be be consistent and reliable and striking to be inconsistent and only so reliable. It makes for better gameplay.
>>
>>36206942

Maybe people should chose between Agility, Intelligence and Sensibility?

>>36206972

But why Charm? Why only Charm? You have problems with being perceptive allowing you to react faster, but having a strong personality is a great reason to go first?

This I wholeheartedly agree with: I made it a long time before we decided that every Attribute should be just as good ad dealing Strikes.

And yet, I still don't see why Charming Guys should get this power: is Social Combat is OP, shouldn't we give them something less combat related?

And allow Smart Guys, who are less social but who can help the rest of the party, use Intelligence instead?
>>
>>36207132
Social combat is not CURRENTLY horrendously overpowered. Moreover, Charming guys, unlike Intelligent and Sensible guys, have little to no use outside of social combat. Sensible guys get to make Medicine checks, can use Sensibility for common sense, etc.

>>
>>36207201

I think we are just using the Attributes in a very different way.

In my mind, using Sensibility for Music and Persuasion would never be that easy, just like using Intelligence and Intimidate, or Intelligence or Deceit, or Intelligence and Persuasion.

I mean: being smart doesn't make you good at lying.

Charm, to me, was alway supposed to be the Attribute that would have seen more social play than any one else.
>>
>>36207201
Even more physically inclined characters can be of great use out of combat. For traversing obstacles in the environment, for instance. Also, solos in a musical number are rare in Disney. Half of to the whole party ought to participate in the song. If you try to sing it all yourself there should be a penalty to its success.

Encourage teamwork. Power of Friendship n' shit.

But Common Sense doesn't have a lot to do with Sensibility.

Sensibility is being perceptive about the world around you, but it doesn't make you down to earth.

And being Smart doesn't really mean that you can show others the logic behind your ideas.

Charm should be the way to convince someone that yeah, your idea is the most logcal one, not the one "that nerd over there" came up way with.

I mean, if we let Smart and Sensible Guys do every thing you should do with Charm, then yeah, Charming Guys get left behind.

>sensibility doesn't mean down to earth
What.
I. What. Sensible characters are literally supposed to be like Belle, down to earth people who are perceptive.

>Being smart
>can't make logical arguments
The inspiration for the Smart characters are multiple characters in Atlantis.
>>
>>36207614
Wait, are you using Sensible to indicate someone with good senses?
>>
>>36207649

Sensible characters are people that pay attention, that stay in touch with the reality around them, but that doesn' mean Common Sense.

Shit, Belle doesn't even have all that Common Sense: she's butting head with everyone around her and dreaming about a different life. If she had Common Sense she would have stopped reading books and found herself a husband.

>>36207649

Being Smart means you know the truth, not that you can convince peope of it.

If Smart people were good at convincing other people, politics would be made up of them and scientists would have no problems getting funds. Instead. . .

>>36207651

Shit, I think I am. I mean, I'm my language they are the same word.

Right: lots and lots of substance. The Smart Guy keeps handing out the truth, the Charming Guy easily smash him down with logical fallacies and feelings.

I mean, that's his point: if we take that away, what is he left with?

Maybe that works on the uneducated, unwashed, unthinking masses. But once you start talking to anyone capable of critical thinking, the only bonuses charisma provides is the inherent convincingness that comes from the material being presented with confidence.....which can be substantial, don't get me wrong, but don't think think that flash is the be all end all of persuasion and deceit.

Let's not go crazy here: we don't do rules that complex.

>>36208307

I'm just saying: Charm should be the most used Attribute for Persuasion and Deceit.

You can (and should) use Intelligence when dealing with people who really know what you're talking about, but otherwise it should be Charm all the way.

For example: lying about medicine to a doctor should rely on Smart, because before everything else you need to know about medicine, but lying about medicine to anyone else should be Charm, because you going by with your confidence and you smoothness.
>>
>>36208307
>>36208370
It seems fair.
>>36208370
If you want to keep it simple it can work like this, but you relying a lot on DM fiat. Be careful or your going to play mother-may-I.
>>
>>36208251
>Since that political party you hate is getting so many votes, I think that's a lot of people :3
Cute. But my party is in power, so yes, plenty of the people who vote for my party are uneducated, unwashed and unthinking too.

>Also, how do you do Deceit by being right?
>Persuasion, yeah, makes sense, but shouldn't Deceit be really, REALLY, about the flash?
What is Deceit but persuasion of what is not true?

Using Deceit with Charisma is cheating someone by making up a long story about how a worthless piece of garbage is in fact a very valuable ancient relic and you should give them lots of money for it. Using Deceit with Intelligence or Sensibility would be like filling chests with lead slabs, the top slabs being thinly plated in gold, and the using them to make large purchases.
>>
>>36208447
>relies heavily on DM fiat
Yes. That's the entire point. This game relies heavily on GM fiat.

>Seems fair
It's also much more complicated in a rules-light system. This isn't pathfinder.
>>
>>36208472

>Using Deceit with Intelligence or Sensibility would be like filling chests with lead slabs, the top slabs being thinly plated in gold, and the using them to make large purchases.

Yes, perfect example!

You can do that with careful planning and by taking the time to fill the chest beforehand, but you can do it on the spot, just by talking.

With Charm, instead, you just need to keep a straight face and lie out of your ass: you don't need preparation for that.

So, unless you have the time to research and prepare your trick, most of the time Charm should be what you use for Deceit.
>>
>>36208491
You know, with all the rules-lightness we have, I think we can afford o have something a little more complex without instantly turning into Pathfinder.
>>
>>36208491
Pathfinder doesn't let you swap your stats around based on who your talking with. This seems better, really, even if I still like Pathfinder.
>>
>>36208491
Which is exactly why we said "be careful with relying on GM fiat." Force the GM to control everything, and it's impossible for him not to railroad his players.
>>
>>36208626

>and it's impossible for him not to railroad his players

Is it, though?

Where did you get that information?

Because I'm pretty sure you took it out of you ass.

>Oh no, the GM should decide if you can use Intelligence to lie to this guy! What is this Mother May I bullshit? RAILROADING!
>>
>>36208577
NO. GET THE FUCK OUT OF THIS GAME. WE'RE NOT ADDING RANDOM PENALTIES BECAUSE YOU WANT TO JUST ADD COMPLEXITY.

>>36208594
Then under the rules for skills, tell GM's to be careful with what people can be Deceived using Intelligence and who can be Deceived using Charm.

>>36208626
The game in general is rules-light and relies on deciding which rolls make sense. Specifically we said that we would be allowing any stat for any skill depending on how you were using it.
>>
>>36208663
As opposed to where you're getting your information on that not being what happens? Because there've been plenty of occasions where GMs get given control of basically everything in a game and go mad with power.
>>
>>36208666
But it wasn't a random penalty. It makes it so the smart guy can't do absolutely everything.
Hmm, a smart guy able to do anything he wants. Remind you of anything, Nob?
>>
Maybe it's just because Nob is a good GM, but playing it rules-light worked out quite well with a diverse party over a range of experiences. There was a bit of OOC questioning, but nothing that distracted us from the action.
>>
>>36208710
Then he's the best damn GM I've ever heard of.
>>
>>36208666

>Then under the rules for skills, tell GM's to be careful with what people can be Deceived using Intelligence and who can be Deceived using Charm.

Tomorrow I'll get around to shape up the Skill List a bit, adding an introduction about how the GM should decide what Attributes should be used and about how that decision can deeply alter the balance of the game, so, you tell, give your players some examples on how you are going to handle stuff.

>>36208683

Really? You give a GM the freedom to be the GM and suddenly he goes crazy with power?
>>
>>36208705

Sorry for writing so much about Sverd, but no one's asked me to write anything in specific, so I'm just retracting to the stuff I know best.
>>
>>36208744
Okay, I think I phrased that badly. You FORCE a GM to do absolutely everything and he goes crazy with power. Most GMs don't realise they can. In my experience, when they do, it doesn't end well.
>>
>>36208744
If you don't mind, I'll make a suggestion real quick; You could also include a suggested attribute for each skill (one or two). For example, Deceit is usually Charm, but out of combat it could be used for long-cons that require logical persuasion to work with Intelligence.

>>36208794
Then they aren't very good GMs. Half of GMing is improvising on rules.
>>
>>36208813
Guess I've just gotten unlucky with my GMs then. If they're the exceptions and not the rule, then ignore me and feel free to call me retarded.
>>
>>36208558

Sing to the tune of “Masculinity” – La Cage aux Folles, 1978
I want to pick up this piece of toast like a man

I see it as
Masculine toast and masculine butter
Ready for spreading by a masculine hand
Using this knife as it were a machete
I’ll have all my strength and all my steady nerves
For hacking my way through the cherry preserves

Think of my Father and our Lord above
Of the highest Legends and of Arthur’s great men
So like a real man I grab my cup
And if God forbid that I screw that up
Then I can climb back up the mountain once again

Listen to that
About that voice of mine

I’ll roar like a lion and growl like a tiger
With a roaring and snorting masculine laugh
All the best men were basses, not tenors
If I could talk rough and gruff and low
Talk more like Sir Lodrbrok and less like his squire

Think of Ivarrstead and Charlemange
Think like a soldier marching into the den
But I don’t want to be some burly brute
Just get rid of the nylons under my boots
So I can climb back up the mountain once again
But this time as a man

A thought I just had about living in the Mirror Kingdom: on top of the self-mutilation, you get almost none of the benefits of living in a panopticon society and none of the benefits. Grimhilde could, of course, solve every crime and ferret out all corruption with the mirror, but she's not going to because she doesn't give a shit about what the proles do. Presumably there's some sort of petitioning process for access to the mirror for a single question or something of the sort, but the process is doubtless riddled with corruption and nearly inaccessible to all but the nobility. So the mirror wouldn't be just a tool of oppression for Grimhilde, it would also be a tool of oppression for the nobility more generally.

GMs who are antagonistic towards their players are shit GMs. When you're a GM, you can kill all the player characters at any time for any reason. The GM ought to be a fair judge in most games.
