Quest Start


Its a long walk back to your house from Midori’s apartment, but thanks to the chatter between the four of you it does not seem to take very long at all. The initial teasing directed at you, and subsequent explanations of your whole...thing...with Sasha gave way to similar indictments of Kairi and her interest in Gai, Koito Kinno’s obvious attraction and senpai worship, and then back around to Keiko’s own string of organized admirers.

Midori was not free from the jabs and jests, as she continued to adjust to the presence of Jadeite within her mind through the ring you bonded to her with the charge of being your Jadeite Knight. You may have let slip a few of her more public crushes from your shared fashion circle, wondering if they were sincere or just covers for herself now that she-

She punched you in the shoulder, jokingly, to Keiko’s & Kairi’s laughter. She has an arm, a really good arm. You rub the sore spot by your shoulder, you don’t really think she even meant to hit that hard. All too quickly you are reminded of the desk she hurled at Jewel Thief when he came for Keiko.

“We haven’t even talked about coming out yet,” she grouses, “So don’t go making jokes so casually,”

You are Mikage Chiba, second year high school student age 15 and presently the mysterious protector and ally of the fourth Sailor Moon known only as Eclipse. The fourth Sailor Moon is your little sister; after you, your older sister, and your mother.

Presently you are with your friends, Kairi Osaka, Keiko Sugimoto, and Midori Mori, on the way to your family’s house for what may be an awkward situation. You have resolved to go to a briefing being held by the original Sailor Senshi and the JSDF’s Paranormal Incident Task Force, but first you have to broker a potentially tense meeting between your mother and your friend Keiko.

In a past life, Keiko had been a sorceress possessed by a dark and dangerous entity whose machinations resulted in the ancient civilizations of the solar system being wiped clean of life eons ago. I just got here a minute ago and needed to catch up.

Not making overt use of your stealth skills, you just ascend into the second floor hallway without talking.

Music and conversation blares from behind Usa’s door, you aren’t sure who is there. Koyomi’s door is cracked and you can see part of your father sitting on her bed. Meanwhile you can hear an animated conversation, though muffled, beyond the door to the master bedroom.

Waving the girls on, you stop in front of the door to the master bedroom. Pausing a moment you take a listen at the door.

“-and that should be everything that the Commander will likely ask you that you should be prepared for. I don’t know enough about the gentleman from Ellis, but once he realizes you aren’t a repository for technical or magical knowledge he should ease off from pressing you for information,”

“Thank you, Luna. Now, are you sure that when I transform this will clear up?” your mother responds in query.

“I spend the better part of an hour coaching you for this and that’s your only question?” your cat crise irately.

“Well, yeah. You explained everything so succinctly that I don’t have any questions,”

Having heard enough of the unfolding comedy, you wrap the door sharply, prompting a squeak from your mother as you begin to talk.

~Hey, Mom, are you there? I need another...conversation with you,~ you offer carefully.

You know exactly what she’s asking Luna about. You’re braced for it. She’s probably a little mad at you, superficially, and for good reason.

The others aren’t.

Your mother is quick to open the door, looking down at you with an expression somewhere between pleading and scolding. Her face is a patchy blotch of her normal skin tone and the bright orange your oil tends to stain when left to set in overnight when mixed with sweat.

“Mikage, you’re damn right we need another con-” her eyes widen as she notices you aren’t alone and she snaps the door closed.

The confused moment passes as you turn to your friends.

~I may let my mom try my tanning oil and I may have forgotten to tell her not to sleep with it on,~ you explain to the other girls.

She pauses, the sound of her slipping into tears drops suddenly as she opens the door to inspect your group.

“Your friends? Your friends who I don’t think I’ve met before and who aren’t Kairi,” she inspects Midori and Keiko carefully, the dark haired girl wilts back a bit under her gaze, her embarrassment gone, “Are the two of you from her fashion thing?”

Before you can answer.

“I-I am Miss Chiba. I am Midori Mori” Midori explains between awe and held laughter before bowing her head and looking away as her grip on the would be laughter induced smile breaks, “And...Its a pleasure to meet you,”

“Its nice to meet you. And you?” she turns her eyes to Keiko...but then looks momentarily confused, as if she recognized something about the girl, and rightly so.

“I’ve already promised my loyalty to Mikage for all she’s done for me,” Keiko explains, “And to make amends for every wrong I did as Metallia’s herald and Queen of the Dark Kingdom. I’ve already awakened powerful magics inside of myself...but I don’t know if it will be enough against whatever is to come,”

She hold her hand over her chest and looks up with an iron resolve. Her earlier embarrassment and worry forgotten.

~MAMA! KEIKO!~ you try to shout against the intensity of brilliance.

As the brightness fades, you mother stands fair skinned and clad in the sheer black fabric of her form as Sailor Moon, the white Eternal wings stretching out from just above the surface of her back. Fluttering feathers fill the room, as Keiko has collapsed into your mother’s arms. Upon her brow is a still glowing mark, an unfinished crest still forming.

“What?” Keiko groans as she looks up into your mother’s eyes.

“I’ve hewn the stone inside of you. It was a rough shard, but I think I have cut it to an effective faceting to sit safely in your soul, and polished it facets to a smooth sheen,” your mother explains in a calm and warmly nurturing voice, “Luna, will you be able to fashion a broach or a wand for the girl?”

“Y-Yes Usagi,” Luna explains assuming her human form, “Though I must protest the haste taken with this course of action, it is highly irregular,”

“Irregular, yes, but I think we both trust Mikage’s judgement on this,” its the gentle and poised version of her princess voice.

Luna’s opposition folds immediately.

“Come on,” she pouts, “Don’t tease,”

You give her a quick hug before she follows Luna out of the room, leaving you alone with your mother.

“Mikage-chan,” you mother smiles and wraps you into a hug from behind, “You continue to do me proud, you continue to prove you have so large a heart,”
