LAST TIME ON GEASS QUEST: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/36040835/

Thread times and updates posted here: https://twitter.com/Crosswire

Rules and Mechanics: http://pastebin.com/J8ehewqf

Your name is Xinlu Kuu and you’re starting to believe your quest for revenge is finally going somewhere…

After shooting up with your medication on Dr. Pailsen’s orders you awake in your small room aboard the Avalon feeling surprisingly energized and refreshed. You’re not really sure how a drug that leaves you paralyzed and in intense agony for a solid hour can leave you feeling so great afterwards, but if Dr. Pailsen wasn't concerned with the side effects it's probably nothing to worry about.

You flip on the lights and check the clock on your phone, only to find that it's 4:00 AM. Even if the Special Corp is an irregular unit, you doubt that anything is going to be done at four o'clock in the morning unless someone's on orders. In basic training 6:00 AM was the normal wake up time and it seems to be that way for the rest of the military in normal circumstances.

Crashing back onto your bed and sleeping another two hours is tempting, but you're not sure you'd be able to sleep with the energy running through you. Looking around your small, grey walled room you think on what you could do with your time.

Cecile gave you a thick stack of manuals, one for the Sutherland Club, another for the Lancelot Club, and from your skimming of them last night you noticed a couple unfamiliar weapon manuals as well. You could probably read through them properly in two hours if you sat down and concentrated.

There's also the fact you're not at all familiar with the layout of the ship. The Avalon is a large and unique vessel, one you'll probably be spending a lot of time on given how the Special Corp is based out of it. It might be useful to poke around for a bit and try to get an idea of where everything is.

Then again you've been pretty active lately, you've yet to give yourself a break. Maybe you should just relax, take a shower, and think about things for a bit. Maybe you could give someone a call on your phone...

What do you wish to do Shirley?

To be fair, at the point where the last thread started, it was already too late. If we were going to get a mask, we should have done it 2 threads ago. Of course, the mask would make us even more suspicious.

Since our antagonist is zero, whose mask symbolizes a "0", maybe we should get ourselves a mask which symbolizes a "1" ?

As nice as the sunglasses you have are, you need something that properly hides your face. Maybe a mask? A lot of people seem to be wearing them nowadays. You should probably do something with your hair too, though cutting it might not be the best idea considering you'll be going back to Ashfords eventually.

You're clueless on where you'd get a mask but consider the sunglasses you got from Rick were designer shades, maybe he knows someone who could make you something? It’s a bit early to send an email, but you do know Rick’s cell number so you decide to send him a quick text instead.

[Hey Rick. Do you know where I can get a cool looking mask?]

Putting your phone on vibrate to wait for a reply you sit down on your bed and break out the manuals you were given by Cecile. They're thick, wordy, and as dull to read as the paper they're printed on. You're not reading them for entertainment though, you're reading them to become better acquainted with the tools that will be taking the lives of others and preserving your own.

Still, you can't help but be reminded of your rather average grades back at school. Didn't someone help you study for your exams a lot? No...no you'd remember if someone did.

Looking at the stack of manuals you decide on which one you'd like to read first...

You decide to start with the manual for the Sutherland Club, after all that’s what you’re going to be piloting first.

The manual is pretty thick and it takes you a solid hour to get through it all.

From what you can glean from the pages of the manual the Sutherland Club functions like a heavily enhanced version of a regular Sutherland. It’s mobility and speed are greatly improved from the standard model but it’s performance is ultimately inferior to that of a Gloucester. The unit features a small, more advanced Factsphere capable of picking up and displaying electromagnetic emissions commonly produced by active Yggdrasil drives.

The Sutherland Club is also equipped with two "Blaze Luminous" Shield projectors on the forearms of the Frame. These are apparently cutting edge energy shield units capable of deflecting or blocking most conventional attacks. They do however put a heavy strain on the Energy Filler when in use and while they can block/deflect most attacks the physical impact could possible damage the joints of the arm.

Outside of there's not much else to the Sutherland Club outside of an additional pair of Slash Harkens on the forearms. These can be fired normally or extended and used as forearm mounted blades if necessary.

It seems like a pretty cool unit, but it's repeated in several pages that the unit is using experimental parts, particularly in the head and leg regions. There's a possibility of encountering issues or suffering flat out technical failures with these parts, so caution is advised in pushing the suit too far.

You move onto the Lancelot Club manual and find yourself confronted by textbook of a manual with complex figures, heavy technical wording, and a lot of information to convey.

Reading through the entire manual is a slog but even just by skimming through some of the more figure heavy pages you come to understand that the Lancelot Club, while inferior to the Lancelot, is still a very powerful machine that leaves even the high performance Gloucesters in the dust.

Performance wise it's outstanding and it has a range of motion that the older generation Knightmares literally can't emulate normally. However just going by the information the manual presents you the Lancelot Club seems like a very sensitive machine in regards to control.

It's supposedly able to replicate any motion the human body can do and more so, but relies very heavily on pilot control and coordination instead of pre-programmed movement patterns. It dawns on you that the Frame will be heavily reliant not merely on your piloting abilities but your physical abilities as well, at least to some degree.

On top of that the unit uses a lot of experimental parts. Most are just copies of the components the Lancelot uses, but quite a lot are untested designs and systems that Lloyd put in to see if they'd work our not. Two enhanced Factsphere units in the shoulders capable of assisting in long range firing, a powerful ECM jamming system capable of interfering with communications and Factsphere usage up to 100 meters, and the state of the art equipment as the regular Lancelot.

It's stated several times that most of the parts on the Club haven't been fully tested (which is probably why the Sutherland Club exists) and that if the Club is deployed before proper testing, technical failures are practically guaranteed.

You don't see any mention of an ejection system on the Lancelot Club, but that's probably just a given.

>Rick: [What kind of mask? Like a domino mask, a halloween mask, or something crazy like what Zero or those Glaston Knight guys wear?]

>Kuu: [Something like Zero's I guess. I want something that will hide my face and make it harder to identify me.]

Surprisingly you get a reply back almost immediately from Rick.

>Rick: [I know a guy who does stuff like that. He should be able to make something custom for you. He's a bit pricey but nothing too outrageous if you have plenty of spending cash. What kind of mask do you want though?]

Pausing in thought you try to put into words the kind of mask you'd like to wear.

"Sure, I'd like that. What kind of food do they serve on this ship anyway?" You step out into the hallway and close the door behind you, deciding it's best to stay friendly with Suzaku.

"The same food they would serve on a military base, nothing special. Though Cecile likes to bake things now and then which tend to be...interesting."

The look on Suzaku's face when he says 'interesting' is the same one you'd probably have if someone said you needed a root canal. Miss Cecile seems nice enough though, her cooking can't be that bad.

You walk down the hall with Suzaku and enter the Cafeteria with him. It's a fairly open room and seems fairly small for a ship of this size. However from the looks of it the Avalon is running of a skeleton crew of sorts, which makes sense considering it's still a vessel in testing.

After going through the line and getting yourself some rather tasty looking waffles, you sit down with Suzaku and begin to eat. He doesn't say anything to you though that might just be because he's trying to give you some space. Staying silent wouldn't really do anything for you, maybe there's something you could talk about with him?

Crosswire, in the future, when there is obvious samefagging, especially when it's on both sides, you need to call for a vote about which action we want to take like so to make it a lot harder to samefag.

You give the two, or more, options numbers, and then tell everyone to quote that post specifically with the number corresponding to the one they want, and ONLY the number. Nothing extra. No periods, Commas, anything else. after five minutes from when your post called for the vote, close the voting and count them up.

This way we can keep the voting fair.

oh, and
>Ask him about the Special Corp and helping you train.

Because it would do help us a lot if we trained.

At first you're uncertain on what to ask him. Something about school? Something about himself? You decide to just ask him about the Special Corp instead, a simple and neutral topic.

"Hey Suzaku, what does the Special Corp do exactly? Outside of testing weapons and stuff." You ask as you take a bite of one of your waffles.

"As a combat unit we mostly do whatever we're told too, we're an irregular unit and not really given any one job. Sometimes we're asked to assist in combat operations and others we're asked to help clean up the mess made afterwards, sometimes both. Like back in Narit-" Suzaku stops mid sentence and cringes, obviously having spoken absentmindedly.

You just shrug coldly. "I've already had to dig bodies out from rubble once before Suzaku, doing it again isn't going to be a big deal. How often do we get to fight though?"

"It depends on the activity of the terrorists. I usually get sent out whenever there's a major battle, though we've been asked to participate in some smaller scale operations since things have quieted down." Suzaku frowns and you feel he's going to ask you something uncomfortable so you change topics.

"Suzaku, do you think you could help me train?"

Suzaku tilts his head at that question. "Sure, I guess. I'd be happy to train you if I can, but what do you want training in?"

"Piloting mostly, though I'd like to try and get into better shape. From what I could get from the manual of the Lancelot Club it requires a lot of physical skill to use it properly."

The honorary Britannian nods his head. "If it's anything like the Lancelot you're probably right. Giving you some pointers in piloting and helping you work out will be easy, but maybe you should consider some other training."

"Other training?" You ask, raising a brow as you skewer another chunk of syrupy waffle with your fork.

"Yeah. You may be a pilot, but you need to be able to defend outside of the cockpit if you want to stay alive. How good are you with firearms?"

"I got trained to use a lot of guns in basic training, but rifles always feel awkward in my hands. I can shoot them, but I prefer pistols." Your head begins to hurt a little when you say that, but you don't know why...

"You probably got some hand to hand combat training in basic, right? Well I think it wouldn't hurt if you learned some martial arts on the side. I'm not a master or anything but I could teach you what I know. How about it?"

"Like I said before, I'm not a master. Even when I teach you everything I know chances are you'll be lacking in certain areas because of the holes in my understanding. However you'll be better of knowing something then nothing. We can start whenever you want or get the time too."

"How are Milly and the others at school doing?" You ask, now rather curious as to how everyone's been since you've left.

"Well outside of being worried to death about you, everyone's been doing alright. Kallen's been missing school like usual due to sickness, Nina graduated early and got a job at an alternative energy research institute here in the settlement, and Milly's been busy trying to keep everyone's spirits high with all the rumors about Zero's return floating around." Suzaku explains as he cleans his plate of the last few bites of food remaining on it.

"What about Rivalz?"

"He's still pretty bummed about Milly getting married to Lloyd, if the guy was any older I'd be worried about him taking to drinking." You can't help but smirk a little at that. As much as you like Rivalz, you always figured his pining for Milly wouldn't turn out well.

"Nunnally and Lel-"

You wince at the word and immediately change gears, asking the first thing that comes off the top of your head.

"How's Princess Euphemia doing?"

Suzaku stops as you ask that and just frowns. It's not an angry or disapproving frown, it's the kind of face someone gets when they're reminded of something awful. He opens his mouth to speak, as if prepared to rehearse some line he's repeated over and over again, but he stops and hesitates.

"She's not doing very well." He eventually says, practically through gritted teeth. "She barely eats or speaks anymore, half the time she doesn't leave her bed. It's all I can do just to make sure she's bathing regularly."

You look across the table at Suzaku, eyes wide with disbelief.

"What? What happened?"

"The attack on the Zone happened. She was there at the Special Administrative Zone when it was attacked. I made sure she wasn't hurt but...she saw everything that happened there. All the killing, all the fires, all those innocent people gunned down and crushed by Sutherlands."

"At first I thought it was just shock from seeing all that carnage, but it only got worse and worse as the Zone began to fall apart. By the time the Zone collapsed she was practically manic. I was such an idiot for not realizing what was wrong until then. Even though I protected her I still ended up failing to keep her safe..." Suzaku's hands curl up into fists and he looks away from you.

"Is the princess really that bad? Why haven't I heard anything about it?" You push your tray away from you, suddenly losing your apetite.

"The information hasn't been made public. Euphemia may have given up her title, but she's still related to the Royal Family. A former Princess going mad and trying to kill herself on a regular basis wouldn't be good for anyone's reputation. I think Cornelia might have done something to keep it under wraps, but most of the nobles have heard about it already. It's not like they thought much of her to begin with." Suzaku buries his face in his hands and hides his face as he speaks.

"The worst part in all this is that it wasn't Zero's fault. I was so sure he was going to try and ruin the Zone when he said he'd give his full support. It didn't make any sense for him to support the very place that was going to make him worthless. But he was right there when it all happened, he nearly got shot along with Euphemia. I was so convinced he was responsible for what happened to the Zone and Euphemia, but all the people who attacked were Britannians. The Black Knights weren't involved at all..."

The Cafeteria's bright and cheerful atmosphere is an almost sickening contrast to what you've been told. You didn't know Princess Euphemia, what with her being royalty, but you remember hearing how sweet she was from Suzaku. To hear someone so wonderful, so important to one of your friends has become so unhinged is just disgusting...

Well, it is Zero. Rather than trying to convince him when we don't have concrete evidence, planting a seed of doubt might be for the best. That way, if Lelouche really did do something to fuck with the zone, it'll only cement his righteous fury even more so when he discovers it on his own.

"I don't really know what to say Suzaku, that's absolutely terrible. I hope Euphemia recovers quickly." The words that leave your mouth are some of the most honest ones you've spoke in weeks. Regardless of your mixed feelings for Suzaku, you don't see why someone he loves has to suffer.

"Thank you Shirley. I'm sure she'll get better soon..." Suzaku gives a thankful smile, but his tone is less then optimistic.

You're about to stand up to dispose of your tray, but when you do a question pops into your mind.

"Suzaku, those Knightmare frames that attacked the Zone. Was there anything odd about them?"

"Huh? No not really, they were just normal Sutherlands."

"Not about the Knightmares themselves, I mean about their paint jobs. Did any of them have red shoulders?"

Suzaku looks at you in confusion for a moment but he gives a nod after a moment of thought. "Yeah, the Sutherlands all had one of their shoulders painted red. I didn't think anything of it really, the Purist Faction had both shoulders painted red so I just assumed they were trying to emulate them or something...why do you ask?"

You decide to tell Suzaku about the Red Barons who tried to kill you and the other trainees at the Mt. Odake base. You tell him about the attack, Drill Sargent Delson's involvement, and how killing you and the other trainees was to test their 'enhanced' loyalty. You leave out some details involving you investigation (and how you nearly disemboweled Delson) but Suzaku gets the meat of the information.

He just looks at you, wide eyed and stunned. "But that doesn't make any sense, the people who attacked the Zone were supposed to be armed civilians. Why would mercenaries attack the Zone? Why would they try to kill Euphemia? If they did then they'd be hunted..."

"Only if they were found out Suzaku. You didn't realize the connection till I told you, I don't many others have. There's no evidence to what I'm saying, but maybe it's something you should look into..."

You're about to leave the cafeteria when Cecile runs over to you.

"There you two are, we just got a call from the brass asking us to assist in an operation!"

"What? Huh?" Suzaku snaps out of his troubled train of thought and looks to the dark haired women.

"They found a rebel base on Mt. Gongen that they believe is responsible for attacking the base on Mt. Odake. Apparently they're working out of an old shrine near the base of the mountain."

"Wait, are you talking about the Gongen Shrine?" Suzaku asks as he stands up.

"Yes, I think that's the name, why do you ask?"

"No reason, it's just odd. When I was a kid that shrine was always said to be cursed, something about a demon being sealed up beneath the shrine or something like that. It's stupid, but a lot of people were afraid of going there. Why would the rebels be based out of a shrine instead of some place higher up the mountain?"

"I don't know, perhaps they thought it would keep people from searching there? Despite working out of a shrine they appear to be well armed and have the place heavily fortified against attack. We've been asked to assist in the operation to clear out the base and Lloyd was thinking this would be a perfect opportunity to let you break in the Sutherland Club." Cecile explains, looking to you with a rather detached professionalism in her eyes.

"Wait, isn't this a bit much? Sure she'll just be supporting the troops there but hasn't even tested her Frame yet. Maybe I should go with her..." Suzaku steps forward with concern spread across his face.

Cecile shakes her head. "I know it's dangerous, but we won't be able to collect any data for the Club until it's tested in proper combat. I'll leave it up to Kuu to decide if she's able to handle this on her own, but it's a better idea to have you and the Lancelot on board in case something happens. You'd be able to come to the assist almost immediately with the Float Unit"

Suzaku and Cecile look to you waiting for an answer.

Besides, who would actively fuck with Shirley?

They might not know about Shirley, Only that Xinlu was the driving force opening what should have been a closed end, and that she is now in a position to start investigating into what happened. She's a loose end that needs to be tied.

>"No reason, it's just odd. When I was a kid that shrine was always said to be cursed, something about a demon being sealed up beneath the shrine or something like that"

oh shit

Who the fuck is "they?" The loyalists who sicced the red shoulders on the trainees? They don't have any power over calling the irregulars in to bust up their own operation. You're going in circles.

>>You want to go this mission alone, Suzaku can fly in and assist if things go pear shaped.

Someone playing both sides, remember if the lead is good we'll be fighting the guys who attacked and broke the zone a.k.a. the red barons. a.k.a. they guys who fucked us over in training.

"I'm pretty sure I can do this one on my own. Besides if Suzaku can fly in and assist then there's no reason for him to try and babysit me." You say with a confident smile.

"Alright, as long as you're sure..." Suzaku doesn't look too pleased about your decision, but it's more worry then anything else. You're sure that will go away once you succeed in this mission.

Cecile merely nods. "Alright then Private First Class Xinlu, follow me to the hanger. We'll outfit the Sutherland Club and get you ready for deployment..."

(And this is where I'll end things. I think I might finish things up tomorrow, I'm not feeling well enough to finish things.)

Thanks for running Crosswire. Guess we'll see how good Shirley really is when we walk into this trap.

That's fine. You don't have to finish things up tonight if you don't feel well. it's better to run a quest when you aren't sick.
