Fifteen years ago, the Eastern Kingdoms, under the leadership of Duke Aubric and the legendary Orcslayer Elisabeth Dannon, allied together to drive your people out of the fertile lands you had conquered many generations before. They pushed you back into the Great Wastes of the west, butchering your womenfolk, and raising up a mighty wall along the border to seal the orcish peoples away to die in the desolate, broken landscape.

You only barely remember those days, when you were little more than a whelp carried in a clanmate's arms as they trudged the dusty wastes looking for a place to live, or die. The old shaman Ku'zag told you tales of the Orcish kingdom, its mighty warlords riding at the head of great hordes of warriors, with food, wealth and women enough that no Orc wanted for anything. It's hard to even imagine it now, with the sorry state of your clan. The clan chief and his inner circle of scarred old warriors take the best food, the best weapons, and claim what few women the tribe have for themselves, and for what? Strong or not, they are too broken down by old losses to raid, to go to war, to lead your clan to anything more than a slow, miserable decline into death.

You are Ur'shal, a young warrior and hunter of the Stonetusk clan. You know your people cannot live like this much longer, the chieftain will lead you all to a miserable coward's death, and something must be done. Right now though, him and his inner circle are too strong to challenge, and there are other problems to keep you occupied, food has been scarcer even than usual this season, and the clan grows weak and hungry. Worse still your clanmates who stray too far after dark have been found murdered, ripped open, bones missing, prey to some horror skulking the wastes.
>>
>>36181067
The sun is still high in the sky now though, and today you hunt. You and two other warriors, friends for many years, have picked up the trail of Rootsuckers, which would be finer eating than you've had for quite some time. Zo'rok gestures for you and Dru'ak from behind a rocky outcropping, grinning as you join him, and pointing down to the family of Rootsuckers digging trenches in the dusty ground with their horns.

“Good eating there, enough for the tribe for a long time,” he whispers, Dru'ak nodding in agreement.

“I haven't seen a Rootsucker that big in a long time,” Dru'ak agrees, growling in anticipation.

“What do you say, Ur, the big male looks tough, but if we can bring him down, the clan would celebrate.” Zo'rok whispers, “of course, we could pick off the straggler, scare them off and grab a younger, weaker one when they bolt.”

>We need food, and you've never backed down from a fight, go for the big male
>Be cautious, grab a smaller, weaker one
>Write in additional planning

You have a stone axe and two old and somewhat damaged javelins. You are wearing some tattered Rootsucker hide armour in serious need of repairs.
Zo'rok has a sling and a bone dagger, he's also probably got some healing herbs or poisons about his person, he always seems to
Dru'ak has a bone club, and some pieces of bone armour covering an arm and his chest.
So far you have the element of surprise.
Fair warning, before I get on with the story. I do expect this quest to have smut in it, you are after all going to one day hopefully be leading a great Orcish horde, conquering lands, laying waste to their armies, and claiming their most beuatiful women for your harem, as a great Orcish conqueror should.

To repeat, in case anyone misses it and gets mad later, SMUT WILL HAPPEN, maybe not this thread, but someday.

The scrawny ones won't keep your belly full, and the large male's bones and hide would make some good, strong weapons and armour too, you just have to take them from him first.

“The big one, we hit him hard and fast.”

Zo'rok grins and Dru'ak nods in approval, the pair circling around the outcropping to get in position. The rootsuckers seem oblivious to your presence so far, focused entirely on digging in the dirt, grunting and snuffling. When you are all in position, you launch yourselves out of hiding with a roar, axe raised, your two clanmates right behind you. The rootsuckers buck and howl in confusion, the younger ones stumbling in panic as they try to flee. The big male wheels to face you with its thick skull lowered. You just have to be quick enough to hit him before he can put those horns to good use.

I'll be doing best of three rolls for this quest.

The rootsucker looks even larger and more intimidating up close, his scarred old skull and chipped horns a testament to many brutal fights. He moves quicker than you'd expected, and for a moment you think this may be it. He bears down on you, ready to rip your belly open. You can feel the beast's hot breath as it is seconds from impaling you, only to stumble at the last minute as Zo'rok's sling bullet hammers into his side and Dru'ak slams his club into the beast's leg.

The Rootsucker brays in pain, and you take advantage of the distraction, dodging to one side and swinging your axe in a might arc round behind the bony skull into the creature's thick neck. The axe bites deep, drawing thick blood as you cut into the artery. The great Rootsucker staggers, lashing out wildly and howling with pain as you and your clanmates back off, waiting for it to bleed out.

The beast crashes to the ground, grunting feebly in a growing pool of blood before it goes still. Its family have long since fled, but this beast alone is more than the rest of the hunters have caught in a week.

“A good hunt,” Dru'ak nods, as yoy pry your axe loose from its throat, still thankfully intact, although now a deep shade of red.

“Maybe when we bring this back to the clan, the chieftain will reward us, first pick of the food, and a go with the women,” Zo'rok cackles as he starts to cut into the beast with his knife.

You stare at him and sigh.

“What, I thought it was funny,” he grins, humming as he eagerly guts the rootsucker.

You crouch down and help Zo'rok to butcher the beast as Dru'ak keeps watch.

>>36181595
“Let's make this quick, the predators will smell the blood soon enough,” you growl, glancing up at the sun which is starting to sink down towards the horizon.

Soon the beast is is in an easier state to carry, and you make ready to return to the clan before the sun sets, already getting dangerously low in the sky after a long day's hunt.

“Ur'shal, Zo'rok, look,” Dru'ak grunts, beckoning you over to the rocky outcropping you hid behind not long before. You walk over, following Dru'ak's gaze to a gap in the rock face, a carved hole hidden behind a boulder, a set of ladder rungs cut into the side. You squint down the hole, but from here even your orcish eyesight can't make out much at the bottom.

“Could be an old tomb, from the days of the great horde.” Dru'ak mutters, staring down into the darkness. “Good weapons in old tombs. Maybe even old magic.”

“Good eating too, if the bones haven't been cracked,” Zo'rok grins, circling the edge of the pit. “Looks like something's been here before us though,” he says, running a finger over claw marks and scratches in the stone at the edge of the hole.

“Probably too late to be going in now, Ur, and we'd have to leave our catch up here to be dragged off by the first predator to wander by, but it could be worth a look,” Zo'rok shrugs, Dru'ak nodding in agreement.

You should probably come back another day in good light, but you're curiousity gets the better of you. Who knows what could be down there, weapons, maybe real steel weapons! Maybe old magical fetishes of long-dead shamans and kings.

“We'll just take a quick look,” you say, starting down the ladder.

“Knew you couldn't resist, Ur, but let's make it quick, last thing we need is something to come drag off our kill.” Zo'rok grins.

You start down the ladder, your clanmates following. The shaman once told you that many races out past the wall can't see a thing in the dark, you can't even imagine what a pain that must be, but even you have trouble squinting into the pitch black without the stars to guide you.

The ladder goes down a long way, but eventually you find solid ground. It looks like Dru'ak was right, it's a tomb, carved faces of leering orcs adorn the walls, warding off the enemies of Orckind. Not that they seem to have done much good. The stone coffins stand open, the bones of dead warriors cracked and scattered across the floor, mixed in with some bones that look newer and fresher. Tiny glinting yellow metal discs, jewellery and brightly coloured stones litter the ground, tossed from the sarcophogi. The shaman Ku'zag told you about this, gold and gemstones, precious to the other races, worn by great orc warriors as signs of their conquests. It's no good to you now though. A doorway looms at the far end of this room, a foul stench of rot rising up from it.

“Something bad lives down here.” Dru'ak growls.

“See if you can find anything good, then we're leaving,” you whisper, Zo'rok and Dru'ak nodding as they start to rummage through the sarcophogi and bones littering the room.

You scoop up a nice looking golden armband, around your size, off the ground, before you join them in rummaging through the remains. Much of what was buried with the dead orcs is broken and worthless, shredded by whatever wanted to feed on the remains, after a searching fruitlessly through two coffins of broken trinkets however, you find something more worthwhile. An axe, a little chipped, but with a metal head. You pick it up from the coffin, admiring it. You've only ever seen metal weapons in the hands of the chieftain and his inner circle, never thought you'd get to claim one for yourself. It feels good, heavy and well-balanced in your hands.

Zo'rok cackles to himself quietly as he pries a metal dagger loose from a skeletal grip, slipping into his belt. Dru'ak looks rather gloomy however, not having found anything of value so far. You can see the light starting to fade from the hole you climbed down, and you swear you hear shuffling echoing through the doorway at the far end of the room, still quiet and distant for now.

“Time to go, we can come back tomorrow when we're ready.”

The other two nod in agreement, hurrying back to the ladder and clambering to the top into the light, where the sun has just started to dip below the horizon.

As your eyes adjust to the light however, you make out a pack of stingworms gnawing on your kill. Fortunately the wretched scavengers haven't eaten much yet, but you'd best drive them off before they ruin it completely.

“Feh, can't even eat those,” Zo'rok mutters, readying his new dagger.

For stingworms, think dog-sized grubs with a set of stumpy legs and a barbed stinger on the end of a long thin tongue.

Oh dear, not good rolls for Zo'rok.

You snarl, hefting your new axe as you advance on the stingworms. They notice your presence, turning and hissing, their tongues lashing wildly as they try to scare you away from their kill. They must be desperate to pick a fight with Orcs, it must have been a lean season for them too.

You dodge a thrashing tongue, burying your axe in the soft flesh of the nearest stingworm, as Dru'ak and Zo'rok lay into them with their weapons. It goes well, your new axe cleaving the creatures apart smoothly, like an extension of your arm.

You are jolted from your revelry however, as Zo'rok curses, slipping on stingworm gore. The stingworm he was advancing on seizes on this opportunity, its stinger burying itself in Zo'rok's arm as he roars with pain. You can already see the skin around the wound starting to blacken as the poison works its way into his system.

Zo'rok grits his teeth, buring his new dagger in the stingworm's flesh.

“Damn things, look at this,” he mutters, sweat breaking out across his face as his skin turns a pale shade. “Ur, help me pull this loose before I go and die to a stupid Stingworm.”

“Remember when we were whelps, and we found a nest of stingworm grublings barely hatched.”

You get a solid grip on the stinger, prying it loose from the wound, the blood blackened and sickly where the poison is spreading. Zo'rok grins and nods.

“Some of the others were trying to show off, goading the grublings to lash out at them, to prove how brave they were. So what did you do?”

Zo'rok cackles. “Swallowed it whole.”

“Damn right, you were in the shaman's hut being treated for weeks, you crazy fuck. So stop acting like some mewling baby who'd go and die from a little worm sting, or I'll give your ghost a beating it'll never forget.”

You rip open the worm and pour its blood across the wound, as Zo'rok reaches into his beltpouch with shaky hands and pulls out a foul-smelling paste, smearing it across the wound once the blood has poured past. You don't know whether the blood did any good, but you're sure one of the other hunters told you that's how it works once, and Zo'rok does seem to be looking a little better.

“Should be fine, but I'm going straight to Ku'zag when we get back, get the shaman to take a look.” Zo'rok grins, picking himself up shakily.

“Now come on, none of us want to stick around and get stuck out here after dark with whatever's down that hole.”

You and Dru'ak heft the carcass and start back towards the camp.

The sun has already set by the time you start to make out the lights of the clan camp in the distance, the journey back uneventful, though you never can shake the feeling that something is watching you, a shadowy figure darting between the rocks just out of sight.

As you start to get closer, Zo'rok slips his dagger inside is bag. “Don't want one of the chieftain's croneys stealing it from me, you be careful too, Ur.”

You know what the chieftain and his circle of lackeys are like, they'll have your new treasures pried from your hands before you've taken two steps into camp. No, best to wait until they can't take the axe from you, except maybe when you bury it in their skulls. You stuff the axe and armband into a sack, mixed in and hidden under ratty blankets and old tools and other such things.

“You're right, the chieftain can't be trusted. We'll wait.”

You give Dru'ak a slap on the back as you start into camp. “Next time we'll find something good for you too, friend, its a promise.”

Dru'ak nods. “Next time we turn that place upside down, whatever's down there won't stop us.”

The clan seem surprised to see you after dark, and their curious questions turn to hoots of joy and congratulations as they lay eyes on your impressive catch. The younger orcs swarm around to take a good look, and you brush off their questions. You see Gro'gul sitting by the fire, one of the chieftain's inner circle. The old blowhard glares at you, never happy to see anyone stealing attention away from him. One of the few women the clan has sits by his side, Sho'ka, a fine looking woman, tall and strong. You take a moment to admire her curves as she smiles at the sight of you and your clanmates returned triumphant from the hunt. She truly is wasted on that old fool.

You hand the kill over to Dru'ak and the other orcs to prepare, as you lead Zo'rok away from the main bustle of the camp towards the shaman.

“I'm no child, Ur'shal, I can take myself there, go celebrate,” he grins, you catch him by the arm as he stumbles.

“Feh, fine then, but don't blame me if that fat slug Gro'gul's eaten all the best meat by the time you get back.”

You snort, lifting the tent flap to the Shaman's tent. Ku'zag looks up from his work, crushing beetles and roots into a bowl.

“What happened to you?” he wheezes, picking himself up with his staff.

“Stingworms got him,” you explain, sitting Zo'rok down by the shaman. Zo'rok looking sheepish at the explanation.

“Stingworms, how'd you ever get ambushed by stingworms, they move like worms you fool,” Ku'zag grumbles, lifting Zo'rok's arm to squint at it.

“Never you mind that, you old vulture, will it heal?” Zo'rok grumbles.

The shaman snorts, slapping Zo'rok across his injured arm, making the younger orc yelp. “It'll be fine, looks like the paste did the trick. You'll have a nasty scar, but what orc ever cared about that?”

“Still haven't told me how you managed to get yourself jumped by stingworms though.”

Ku'zag's always been good to you, no denying it, but people talk, and people listen. It's best to keep this just to you, Zo'rok and Dru'ak until you've had a chance to plunder the tomb properly.

“Saw another rootsucker, figured we could get two kills. We chased it for a bit, but it got away, when we got back the stingworms were chewing on our kill.” you explain with a shrug.

Ku'zag squints at you, his leathery features scrunching up, before he snorts and turns away, sitting back down to grind up the beetles and herbs. “You might want to keep that stupidity out of the story when you're telling people about your catch, almost losing your kill to stingworms of all things. Now go, before all the best meat on your catch is gone.”

Zo'rok grins, picking himself up, already starting to look in better shape. Looks like things are in full swing back at the camp, the smell of roasting rootsucker hitting your nostrils as you step back into the night air, the clan had been as quiet and morose at first, hungry and irritable, but your kill has put a bit of life back into them. Sadly Gro'gul is telling another story of his prowess, gloating about the time twenty years ago, when he brought down a giant in single combat. You've never seen a giant, but from how Gro'gul describes it, it's as high as two-hundred orcs and breathes thunderbolts.

“Oh, listen, it's the giant today. Wasn't it only a hundred orcs high last time.” Zo'rok sighs, wandering over to the fire with you. Looks like there's still some decent meat left, and Dru'ak hands the two of you some good pieces as you step amongst the crowd of orcs, receiving a few more backslaps and congratulations from your assembled clanmates.

You've no doubt that Gro'gul was a great warrior once, he's large and covered with the scars of many battles, but you can't remember the last time he even left the camp, let alone went on a hunt. He swings his arms widely, spattering rootsucker grease from the prime haunch he's claimed for himself as he continues. “So I picked up a great boulder, bigger than any of you whelps, and hurled it at the giant's head, cracked his skull in two. The Orc king said it was the greatest feat of strength he'd ever seen.”

Dru'ak gnaws on the meat, as one of the younger orcs comes up to carve off more pieces for the rest of the chieftain's inner circle, most of whom have thankfully decided to stay in their tents with their women. You're not sure you could stand to listen to the whole lot of them at once.

Gro'gul's story soon winds down with him being given fifty beautiful human slaves by the orc king and a great stretch of land as his private domain. One of the younger orcs, Y'zul, takes the opportunity to turn to you.

“This is a good catch, Ur'shal, been months since we've seen a Rootsucker this big, how'd you bring it down?”

You can see many eyes on you, not least of which Sho'ka, much to Gro'gul's obvious annoyance. So what do you do with all this attention?

While it would be best not to gloat too much and aggravate Gro'gul and the cheiftain right now, the idea of being humble before that fool is just too bitter to swallow. You decide to keep things simple, your kill speaks for itself.

“We picked up the Rootsucker's trail near camp, followed it for a couple of hours before we found them. Saw this one,” you say, gesturing to your kill, “and figured it would be good eating for the clan. We snuck up on it from cover and ambushed it before it could react. It was over quick and easy, the three of us hit it all at once and brought it down.”

You can tell some of the clan are disappointed by the simplistic tale, but many more are happy enough to have good food to fill their bellies that they give you some congratulations and cheers anyway. Gro'gul snorts and goes back to his meat, muttering something to Sho'ka.

The rest of the evening passes quietly, the cheiftain makes a quick appearance to give you some half-assed praise, as miserable as ever in spite of the beautiful orc women at his side, eventually Gro'gul retires and you can enjoy the rest of your meal in peace, eventually returning to your own tent to sleep.

You are woken in the morning by Dru'ak. “Wake up, Ur, if we want to go out for our 'hunt', we need to leave early.”

You yawn and stretch, checking your bag and thankfully finding your axe and armlet still where you left them.

You could grab Zo'rok and leave right away, or you could try to get some more assistance before you go, the camp is still quiet, most orcs still sleeping off last night's feast, so you wouldn't attract too much attention.

You send Dru'ak to rouse Zo'rok and gather supplies while you make your way to Ku'zag's tent.

You lift the tent flap, being greeted with an irritable grunt as the sunlight streams in onto the old shaman's face. “Damned whelps, can't you let an old orc sleep.”

“Sorry Ku'zag, but we're going out on another hunt, and I figured you might be able to give me something to help with it.”

The shaman snorts, rolling over. “You want salves and alcohol, you know where they are by now. That lickspittle bastard Juk'ruk kept me up half the night rutting with his woman. He was loud enough to wake the dead, not that she seemed half as excited by it.”

You gather up the salves and alcohol, waiting for Ku'zag to stop his complaining.

“Fine, Ur'shal, you're still here, so what else do you want,” he grumbles, sitting up.

You help the old shaman to his feet, offering him his staff.

“With all those dead orcs recently, I was thinking it might be good to have something more, just in case,” you explain, looking at the mess of fetishes, strange idols and other magical junk strewn around the tent.

“Just in case, huh?”

The shaman rummages through a pile of old carved bones, picking up three little tokens, symbols carved into the teeth of some wasteland predator.

“Take this, for your just in case. Prayers of protection to the God of Iron, Zul'orok Zhar. It'll ward off evil spirits, things from the abyss.”

You take the tokens from him, nodding in thanks.

“A word of warning though, since we got driven out of our old lands, my magic hasn't been as strong as it used to be. Don't expect this to do any worse than be an irritant and distraction to an abyssal thing of any real power.”

“That's not much help, Ku'zag,” you sigh, pocketing the tokens.

(cont)
>>
>>36184449
“Take what you can get, Ur'shal, sometimes a little distraction is all that keeps you alive. Now go, deal with your secrets, and try not to die doing it. We've got few enough young orcs left in this tribe with any backbone these days.”

The shaman ushers you out, picking up some dried grubs to gnaw on as you leave the tent.

You meet Zo'rok and Dru'ak at the edge of the camp, carrying nondescript bags.

“Figured it wouldn't be good to advertise what we were up to,” Zo'rok whispers, holding up one of the bags. “Rope, hooks, torches, all that stuff.”

You nod to your friends, heading out of the camp, handing each of them one of the tokens as you strike out into the wastes.

Fortunately, while the walk is long, the route is simple to remember. You have been walking for close to an hour when you spot something propped up on a large rock near your path.

Zo'rok squints at it. “What is that, looks like scavengers have been at it,” he mutters as you get closer.

When you are close enough to see it properly, you recognize what it is, or what it once was, another of your clanmates. You saw him alive just last night, so you suppose no-one noticed he's missing yet. He's been ripped open like all the others, bones removed in a gorey mess, his face surprisingly untouched, locked in a grimace of pain and horror.

You walk closer to the corpse, the three of you keeping a sharp eye out as you go. The stink of death is strong, though the scavengers don't seem to have touched the body.

“That's Bo'uk, isn't it?” Zo'rok mutters, eyeing the horizon for movement.

Dru'ak steps closer, giving a growl as he reaches down to the corpse, plucking something off its head.

He holds it up to the light, and Zo'rok gives a hiss as he sees it glinting in the light. That's not good.”

Dru'ak holds up a single gold coin, identical to the ones you found in the tomb the day before. “You think it's trying to send us a message for digging around in its lair?”

“Maybe, which means it isn't just some beast,” you snarl, taking a closer look at the corpse. The skin has been flayed away neatly, the skin peeled back to expose the gore beneath, several ribs snapped off and removed close to the spine, leaving a mess of organs where they were pulled out. The arms are bent and broken, the flesh bruised and torn where something of great strength pinned him down while it did its grisly work. Not a single fly or worm has touched the corpse, and the waste feels, if it's possible, more still and silent than usual as you draw near.

“Bad magic, very bad magic,” Dru'ak growls, tossing away the coin and stepping back from the corpse.

You usher your friends past the corpse, there's nothing more you can learn from it, and being around it makes your skin crawl.

Soon you reach the entrance to the tomb once more, dried blood crusting in the claw marks round the edges.

“You ready, Ur?” Zo'rok mutters.

You toss a torch down the hole, getting Dru'ak and Zo'rok to hold a rope while you swiftly descent. Landing at the base of the pit with your new axe at the ready. Everything stays quiet for now, the flickering torchlight casting ominous shadows across the room as it hits the leering orc faces carved into the walls.

You tug the rope, gesturing for the others to follow you, and soon you are all at the base of the ladder. You have already picked your way through this room, so the only option is to press on deeper into the tomb. Your clanmates ready their weapons as you scoop up the torch, and follow you through the doorway. That familiar stench of rot hitsyour nostrils as you move further away from the ladder. The corridor is carved with the scenes of great battles, Orc warriors cutting down great swathes of their enemies and taking their treasures and women. You recognize many of the enemies depicted in these carvings from Ku'zag's tales. Humans, elves, dwarves, goblins, even other stranger things you don't recognize. Perhaps the big humans are giants even, though they don't look two-hundred orcs tall in this depiction, more like two or three.

After a while, you start to come to small side rooms branching off from the corridor, all holding a single sarcophogi, most split open and disturbed like those in the front room.

“Check the side rooms, carefully, we don't know where that thing could be hiding,” you whisper to your two clanmates, weapons at the ready as you shine torches into each of the little chambers in turn.

Content that it is clear, you get to looting, Zo'rok keeping watch while you Dru'ak rummage through the bones, dust and useless baubles for real valuables.

Dru'ak gives a triumphant growl as he hefts an impressive weapon from one of the coffins. A great iron ball linked to a sturdy wooden handle by a length of chain. “This is more like it,” he grins, giving the chain a practice swing, only to accidentally smash a chunk off the corner of the sarcophogi, the sound echoing down the tunnel.

“Good work, Dru'ak,” Zo'rok sighs, “Why don't you take watch now, and I'll go looting, without waking the dead doing it.”

Dru'ak gives an apologetic grunt and stands guard, looking pleased with his new weapon.

You find a few interesting things yourself, more weapons, spears, hammers, axes, swords, maces, flails, though none of better quality than the axe you found already. Still, if you needed to arm more orcs, you could put together an imposing force with all this. Better yet, you find armour in one of the coffins, not made of hide or chitin, but made of linked rings of metal, even the cheiftain doesn't have anything this grand. You find a pair of shields too, painted with snarling faces topped with a black crown, not that that means anything to you.

“Hah, look at this,” Zo'rok cackles, picking up some strange glass vial, the top sealed with wax, filled with some sort of roiling black liquid or smoke.

“Don't open that, Zo'rok,” you growl, already seeing his brain straining with the temptation.

He sighs theatrically, stowing it in his bag.

Zo'rok takes one of the shields, adding it to the curved sword he picked up, as you try on the chain shirt. It doesn't fit perfectly, but it's comfortable enough to wear, and it's sure to strike an imposing figure back with the clan.

Content that you've picked your way through everything here, you carry on deeper into the tomb.

You reach what must have once been a grand and impressive stone door, although something has forced it open, claw marks scratching up the carvings on its surface. You step through cautiously keeping watch for the lurking creature, and your eyes widen as you see what lies beyond.

Great carved pillars hold up the high ceiling of this massive room, depicting battles and conquests and the myths of the Orcish gods. The glitter of gold and jewels almost blinds you as you raise your torch, scattered around the room by whatever has ransacked this ancient tomb. Sarcophogi flank a central walkway, leading up a flight of wide steps to a throne carved of stone and studded with gems, rotting banners hanging on the wall behind it.

Perhaps once it held the bones of a great orcish warlord, but the creature has obviously had its way with this chamber too, the sarcophogi split open, and the throne empty save for scraps, a great axe and black crown tossed aside in with the other detritus in the creature's hunger for the bones of the dead.

You put up an arm, holding Zo'rok and Dru'ak back as they go to walk into the room. “Wait, let's go slow, that thing might be in here somewhere.”

Dru'ak nods, Zo'rok eyeing the dark corners of the room suspiciously. The three of you carefully advance into the room, towards the sarcophogi. The smell of rot from the entrance is far stronger here, and Dru'ak gives a disgusted growl as he looks inside the nearest sarcophogi.

“What is that,” he growls, gesturing for you to look into the open coffin. You look in, covering your nose as the stench becomes overpowering. Within the coffin is a pulsing mass of glistening flesh and exposed bone, some half-formed shape writhing within, reminding you of the cocoons of some wasteland insects.

“There's more in the others,” Zo'rok whispers, stepping back from another sarcophogi, sword and shield raised.

“What now, Ur'shal? This isn't just a lair, it's a nest. Last thing we want is a whole brood of these things hatching near the clan.”

You mutter a prayer to Kul'zog Zor, God of Fire and destruction, as you look at the disgusting things. They have no place near you or your clan. “Zo'rok, Dru'ak, burn them all.”

The two set to work as you make for the throne, determined to grab the axe and crown at least before you leave this place. As Dru'ak thrust his torch into the writhing mass, it lets out a shrill wail, making you clutch your ears in pain, but Dru'ak and Zo'rok continue their grim work all the same, burning and carving up the larval things.

As you reach the foot of the stairs, you hear another noise, a louder and more enraged howl joining the cocophony. With disturbing speed, a massive form appears from the darkness of the room's high ceiling, scurrying down the wall and rushing Zu'rok and Dru'ak, raising up to its full size, towering twice its height over your companions.

It looks like some warped hybrid of an oversized skeleton and an insect, exposed bone fusing with pallid chitin and pulsing viscera. Its eyes burn with a sickly green light. Two large, powerful skeletal arms propel it forward, two more pairs of smaller arms tipped with chitinous blades twitching with anticipation close to its chest. You've heard enough of Ku'zag's tales to know a creature of the Abyss when you see one.

It will be on Zu'rok and Dru'ak in seconds.

You make for the axe, you think you're going to need something that big if you want any chance of taking out a monster like that. Zo'rok and Dru'ak split as the creature bears down on them, trying to dodge to the sides of its charge. It lashes out with its massive claws as it gets close, Zo'rok ducking the blow and lashing out with his new sword, striking the boney arm a solid hit, but failing to do more than chip off a small sliver. Dru'ak tries to dodge as well, only to be swatted aside by the creature's arm, slamming against a nearby sarcophogi with a grunt.

The creature turns to bear down on him, but seems strangely slow to advance, glowing eyes locked on the token Dru'ak clutches in his free hand. Still, while it seems put off, it still advances, and it will be on him soon, as he struggles to regain his balance.

You toss aside your steel axe, hefting the greataxe from the throne. It feels good in your hands, like a rush of pure adrenaline and fire through your veins when you grasp it. The torchlight glints a deep, angry red red off the carvings in the axe's head. You turn to face the screeching horror, roaring as you charge it.

Perhaps the rush of power made you overconfident, but for the second time in as many days, you find yourself facing down death. The creature's head whips round to stare at you, Dru'ak forgotten as it bears down on you. You lash out with your new axe, losing your balance somewhat as the axe almost leaps from your grasp, eager to lash out at your foe. It bites deeply into the bony forearm of the beast, sending a spiderweb of cracks up the arm.

The creature howls in agony but lurches forward, drawing you close to its twitching, bladed arms. One of the blades lashes out, scoring a deep, razor-thin cut along your chest, glancing off a rib. The other blades follow after, ready to flense you where you stand, but once more, your clanmates come to your aid. The creature gives an almighty screech as Zo'rok takes advantage of the distraction to ram his blade between its chitionous plates and exposed ribs, ripping into the viscera within, great spurts of greenish ichor and pus sloshing out of the wound. It thrashes wildly, knocking Zo'rok off his feet, the blade still lodged between its ribs, only to overbalance and stumble as Dru'ak crashes his flail into its heel.

You shake your head, ignoring the hot feeling of blood across your chest as you ready your axe once more.

You lash out at the beast again, catching it a glancing blow across one of its legs, splitting the chitin and making it stumble. It hisses, swatting you and Dru'ak aside with a forearm as he rushes to help you. Zo'rok darts forward, shield raised, leaping for the curved blade still dug into the creature's innards. He grasps hold of it, putting all his weight onto the blade as he twists and wrenches it free, provoking another pained howl and spray of ichor.

The creature whips round at him, eyes full of malice as it gives your clanmate its full attention, backing him up towards the corner of the chamber.

Ok so.. ideas.
Option 1: We hide the loot here in this place for now.
This will give us time to rest and heal. Maybe do some more politicking or even more training.
Option 2: We go back, and challenge the chief now.
This keeps up the momentum. there was another kill and the tribe is ready for a savior, we just slaughtered the hellbeast responsible (assuming we win this battle and don't die here). Waiting lets people realize the danger has passed and makes it hard to claim credit for saving them. As well as risking someone else finding the place, looting it all, and the chief ending up with the superior weapons here and being harder to dislodge

Zo'rok backs up into the corner, shield raised for all the good it would do him against the hulking thing.

You pick yourself up, hefting your axe once more.

"Zo'rok, the token," you roar, as you sprint across the room, closing the distance to the beast.

Zo'rok drops his sword, reaching into his belt to retrieve the tooth, holding it up in front of the creature, which snarls, flinching away from the shaman's token.

Distracted, it doesn't even notice as you close on it, swinging your greataxe in an overhead arc, bringing it down on the creature's chitinous back. The plates crack and splinter, the ribs beneath breaking, shards of bone and chitin burying themselves in the soft innards beneath.

The creature wails, rage giving way to panic as it thrashes in pain, sickly ichor splatters the walls and floor of the room.

It tries to back away from you, towards the wall, perhaps intent on making its escape up into the darkness of the ceiling.

The creature starts to back away, only to find itself surrounded as Dru'ak and Zo'rok cut off its escape route, it's skull whips wildly, looking for a way out, before giving an enraged howl and launching itself directly at you in some last ditch attempt to flee.

Unfortunately for the creature, its fear has made it careless, and as it lunges forwards, it overreaches, leaving itself open.

With a roar of triumph, you bring your axe down on the thing's skull, bone and chitin splitting as you bury the head of the axe in its brains. The hulking beast crashes to the ground, the green light in its eyes flickering and dying as it expires in a pool of foul-smelling ichor.

You plant a boot on the skull, prying your axe loose, as Zo'rok and Dru'ak circle round the carcass to take a look at the dead horror.

“Well damn, I bet Gro'gul never killed something like this,” Zo'rok cackles, wheezing as he clutches his bruised ribs.

“With a trophy like this, no-one in the clan could second-guess our power,” Dru'ak nods, and you notice him walking with a limp, his left leg shaky.

“So what do we do now, Ur, I mean when we're done looting this place?” Zo'rok asks, as he wanders away from the corpse to rummage through discarded piles of bone fragments and trinkets.

>We're going to take this trophy back right now and challenge the chieftain, there's no way he'll be able to ignore that.

1v1 duels are the way it's expected to be decided if both sides have support.

If you don't, the chieftain can easily get away with refusing the duel on whatever grounds he can think up, then having you killed for disrespecting him.

That's now the chieftain, that's Gro'gul, one of the chieftain's old warriors, and probably one of the orcs who will interfere if you try to challenge the chieftain.

The chieftain is named Zo'ruz, and he tends to spend most of his time in his tent with his two women, sulking about past victories back before he was driven beyond the wall.

We firmly believe that he killed a giant in his youth. However, he is no longer a great warrior that he was 30 years ago. he is an old orc who is now stifling the tribe. being both a parasite and holding back those who would act in its best interest.

“We've got weapons, and a trophy that no-one can ignore, but right now we're injured and tired. I say we wait it out here for now, pick over this place for whatever we can find,” you explain, resting your new axe over your shoulder.

“So we're living in a tomb?” Zo'rok cackles, lifting a shiny silver ring out of a pile of trash, dropping it in his beltpouch.

“We'll need to hunt while we hide here, I'm not going to start eating dead orcs,” Dru'ak growls, joining Zo'rok in his looting.

You nod. “We hunt, we gather our strength, we get everything we can from this place, then we go back to the clan with our trophy, our weapons, and the food of our hunts.”

“What then, wait for the cheiftain and his inner circle to pat us on the head and take it all?” Zo'rok grins, Dru'ak stops to stare at you as well. You get the feeling both of them know what comes next.

“Then I bury this in the cheiftain's skull,” you smile, the torchlight gleaming red off your new axe.

[End of Thread]

I'll stick around for some Q&A, if people are so inclined. Also, any thoughts or suggestions you have in regards to the thread would be appreciated, since I am still a rank amateur at this QMing thing.

I was thinking how we handle this.

I think we basically start by going back and showing off our kill. Tell the story, really ham it up. How we saved the village from this demon. How we destroyed dozens of its eggs. How we found all this glorious loot.
At this point I expect the chieftain to try raining on our parade, and demand our loot for himself. Don't back down, ask by what right he claims that? It is YOUR loot and YOUR trophies. YOU earned it via a daring raid against an enemy of the clan. Orcs are entitled to the spoils of their victories.
That neatly leads into challanging his leadership, first by criticizing all that is wrong it. Then by actual 1v1 combat trial.
