/tg/ - Traditional Games

Welcome to the XV installment of "Disney Villains Victorious."

Disney Villains Victorious is a new /tg/ homebrew project based on the idea of a world, not entirely unlike our own, in which all the villains from all the Disney animated feature films were not defeated at the ends of their movies but were instead victorious, completing their goals in part or in whole.

It is a world in which Ursula rules the seas, defied only by the uncatchable Pirate Lords, the cutthroat merchants of the East India Trading Company and the might of Atlantis and its magitech-toting mercenaries. It is a world where the grasslands and jungles and forests are prowled not only by fearsome primal beasts like Shere Kahn and Scar but also by the ruthless, tireless hunters that stalk them. It is a world where Europe has been divvied up between evil sorcerous monarchs like Maleficent, the Horned King, Grimhilde and Jafar, mad, inquisitorial clergymen like Frollo, and Dark Gods like Hades and Chernobog.

It is not, however, a world completely devoid of courage, heroism or hope. Around the world, the PCs' characters and their allies plot and plan, fight and strive and win their own victories against the villains that would rule them. The time to fight and to be free is now.

I'm gonna edit the beast stats in the pastebin at the top of the thread; they're worded poorly and not entirely balanced. Ten minutes.
>>
Alright guys, we're got a lot of work done.

LET THIS ALWAYS BE A REMINDER THAT /TG/ GETS SHIT DONE.

>>36105888

And you are the one that keeps things actually rolling, you based faggot

Follow Our Design Philosophy: DISNEY AS FUCK!
>>
I accidentally opened another thread, just as this was getting created.
>>36105932
What now?
>>
>>36105965

Just let it slide down the catalog and stick to this one
>>
>>36105965
Just let it go.
>>
Seems like this has slowed down quite a lot, but we at least have a lot of stuff done by now.

Have we got an agreeiment on weapons and armors?
>>
I might try for one of the King/Land/Rule things. Who's left on the table?
>>
>>36105983
Alright. Now it's getting late here (being an Eurofag is suffering) so I'm hitting the hay: someone should add Hades' to the KLR pastebin at one point or another. You guys keep up the good work.
>>
>>36106049
Plz no
>>
>>36106068

You can't get any less wizardly than weapons and armors Nob, I'm trying here.
>>
>>36106061
Jafar, Ursula, Frollo, Facilier, Scar, the Pirates, the EIC, the Hunter's Club, Aurora Borealis and some more that I don't remember
>>
>>36106120
I'll go for Jafar's one, I suppose, he hasn't had much love in these threads. Gimme a few minutes.
>>
>>36106120

I thought Jafar got done one or two threads ago?

There was a lot of things about illusions
>>
>>36106084
Fine then.

What we came to agree upon for armor at least was that Light armor gives you +1(2?) Prevent Harm while worn, and Heavy Armor gives +3 Prevent Harm.(Or, are we calling it Withstand? I forget.) What Light Armor got in exchange I forgot so it's probably best to just make something up.

Weapons: Small weapons and light weapons should give +1 to attack rolls. Medium weapons and well crafted weapons should give +2. +3 weapons should be reserved for stuff like Atlantean laser guns and magical weaponry.
>>
>>36106190
Well then, I'll pass on that for now and go with the Pirates.
>>
>>36106068
For fuck's sake, Nob, stop being so insanely against anything even slightly complex. Let's just do it, anon.
Now, I believe that certain weapons should have ROBUSTNESS! or Dexterity requirements to wield. For example, if we assume the average Robustness is 8, it takes 8 Robustness to one-hand a human-sized longsword, as well as 8 Dexterity to wield it properly. Meanwhile, Rapiers take 6 Robustness but 10 Dexterity. Having up to two robustness less than what's required allows you to wield a weapon with two hands, and having up to two points less Dex than is needed allows you to wield a weapon with a -2 to hit due to clumsiness. +2 Dex allows you to wield it in your off-hand.
Why yes, I do play a lot of Dark Souls. Why do you ask?
>>
>>36106197

Light Armor: +1 to Withstand against physical attacks

Heavy Armor: +3 to Withstand against physical attacks, but - 10 to Speed.
>>
>>36106224
Hard caps are bad.
Also, the average human Robustness is 7.
>>
>>36106190
He's not in the pastebin: I assume we talked about him but never put the whole thing together.

Regarding Hades' KLR: it was suggested in the last thread that Hades wants more people to die so his realm grows. In my writing, I described him as someone who, having defeated his brother and conquered Olympus, doesn't exactly have an objective right now.
Should we keep my interpretation or change it to follow this suggestion.
>>
>>36106270
Fine, 7. And if it's not a hard cap, you should at least take a negative modifier to wielding it like that. Possible strikes when you use the weapon. A strength 4 guy isn't going to be wielding a fucking massive greatsword with one hand, unless it's got pixie dust on it or something.
>>
>>36106224

>Now, I believe that certain weapons should have ROBUSTNESS! or Dexterity requirements to wield.

We already decided that when talking about shotgun: some weapons have a minimum ROBUSTNESS! required. You get a -2 to hit for every point of ROBUSTNESS you came short. Same thing goes for bows.

Most weapons should give a +1 or +2 to hit. Only special weapons, like shotguns, should get you higher than that.

Shileds give you a + 1 to Withstand.
>>
>>36106224
The numbers aren't quite right, but I'm gonna weigh in in favor of the soft cap-hard cap system like that. It acknowledges both the fact that accepted skill requirements for weapons aren't a hard edge, and the fact that you can be too weak/too clumsy/too whatever to use a weapon effectively.

I'm so nearsighted that I'm damn near blind. If I had to try and shoot a moving target without my glasses I wouldn't be able to hit a thing. Massive penalties might be a more accurate way to model this but a Hard cap is just simpler mechanics
>>
>>36106312
*Robustness 4
>>
>>36106224

I disagree with it having hard "Have this, or suck at wielding it" caps. I'm up for you getting a couple penalties for it, like having the shotgun miss or simply hit you in the face, but I'm not sure about a full on "No"

Wasn't there a discussion for shotguns on that?
>>
>>36106339

Shit, I meant "Have this or DON'T wield it at all"
>>
How are we making weapons interact with skills, anyway?

Will Melee/Ranged skills have specialization levels, or are we leaving that for traits?

Like "If the character is wielding a rifle-type weapon, +2 to hit" or something like that
>>
>>36106339
I'm okay with soft or hard caps, I've just always found it a little immersion breaking that in many RPGs, the only effect of having a low strength is less damage - you can still wield weapons just as big as everyone else.
>>
>>36106405

Traits that give a bonus if you specialize.
>>
>>36106434
He's an utterly mad lich now, obsessed with fire and heresy. You might be able to convince him to end it all, but I'm not so sure about proper redemption.

Specialization levels are for traits. We should try to avoid something that basic though, traits should be funny or fun.

Mate, Punchfaeries are a thing. I'm going to stat up a BOOK TIGER in a second.
Loosen those suspenders of disbelief.

If you're really that hard up on it, make a roll of 2 1-2s on the 3d6 count as a strike on the person wielding it if they're below a certain cap.

It's entirely possible to be a Book Tiger. Put enough points in Intelligence, and you can do anything. Doesn't mean that consistency isn't important. You need a certain amount of robustness to lift stuff, so how are you using a fucking huge sword?
>>
>>36106469
The only redemption I see for Frollo is like a "Oh God, what have I done" sort of "Throw self into the fire" kind of deal. There was a really good couple writefags whose stories have that kind of feel to them. Now where could they be...

What is for the Sensible Guy, one of the abilities could be something like

King: Captain Hook - Pixie Dust. Thanks to the captive Tinkerbell, Hook has outfitted himself and his allies with flying ships to best evade the wrath of the sea witch Ursula. With the pirates constantly thinking happy thoughts about pirating as much as they could ever want, the majority of the captains and their crews are capable of individual flight as well, making them formidable foes. (They are, however, prone to depression. Songs about mothers seem to cripple morale).

Lands: The Islands and the Cloud Sea. The islands controlled by the pirate alliance are constantly under siege from the sea, and so are largely unused on a day-to-day basis. Shore leave is a joyous occasion for the pirates, though very brief. PCs without flight must risk traversing the seas and catching one of the crews during their brief shore leaves before Ursula catches wind of the party and whips up a storm. The skies are where the pirates reign supreme, however, and any airborne group is a potential target for the loot-hungry pirate fleet. Walking the plank is nearly a mile down to the treacherous seas below.

Rule: Good Form. The crews of Hook, Davy Jones and the Pirate Lords abide by the strict laws of the Pirate's Code. The Code dictates everything of piratical life: rules of hierarchy, manners, fashion, engagement, combat etiquette, loot and just about every other aspect of life. The Code is to be strictly adhered to, and the pirates' views on the PCs will relate directly to it. A pirate PC would know the Code by heart, but any other would have to ask around or guess as to whether an question or action would possibly go against the Code. Violating the Code is a serious offense, one that could merit death if severe enough, though the rules can be skirted fairly easily since they're more of guidelines than actual rules.

The writefaggotry about the Atlantean expedition to Arendelle inspired me to write up my own take on it.

The two dog sledges were running blind, full-tilt across the endless snow. The endless blizzard would have reduced visibility to perhaps a dozen meters at best even at full noon; now, in the dead of night? Even with the large oil lanterns on each sledge, the five members of the expedition could not barely see their hands in front of their faces. Their only guidance was the voice in their enchanted earrings.
"All right, slow down. You're entering the ice-razor field."
Queen Grimhilde, the all-seeing.
"All right, you're coming up to the outer wall. You're going to have to climb it."
Maurice, leader of the expedition, looked towards the wall. Although he couldn't quite see it properly, he could sense its bulk.
"No fucking way we're climbing that in the dark," he said, then blanched. "With all due respect, of course, Fairest Queen."
Was that a ghost of a chuckle coming down the link? Surely not. "I am aware. Hold on a moment."
The lack-of-world shimmered, and suddenly he could see- albeit in impressionist ripples.
Maurice looked back at the rest of the team, and could tell by the way they were looking around that they could see now too. Then, he looked at the sheer bulk of the ice wall.
"The enchantment will only last six hours, so you'll have to move fast," the Queen said. "Of course, you knew that already."
Maurice looked back at his team. "You heard the Queen," he said.
>>
>>36106886

I wonder.

Is Tick Tock Croc still out there somewhere, or are we going the Hook route where the captain managed to turn the croc into a clock?
>>
>>36106977

If Hook won, the crocodile must be dead. Literally nothing else would be a true victory for Hook.
>>
>>36106977
I think the Neverland Story ended with Hook blowing up Peter Pan with the present bomb and walking Wendy off the plank, so the Croc never got its chance at hook. It's still as hungry for Hook as ever, another reason he doesn't want to risk going down to the sea that often. It's another advantage Ursula would gladly use against him.
>>
>>36106914
Oho, what is Grimhilde after in Arendelle? Please tell me there's going to be more?
>>
>>36107013
Not necessarily. Hook was always too afraid of croc to even go near it. He developed a full-on phobia of all ticking clocks.

He would still have that phobia, so it stands to reason that he probably would not have mustered up the willpower to face down the animal. This anon >>36107019 is probably right.
>>
>>36106914
Crazy old Maurice...
>>
>>36106914

I'm also wondering what they could be looking for in the frozen realm of the Ice Queen.
>>
>>36106886

I like this a lot. It's got that Neverland whimsy, but is suitably gritty and in keeping with the world we've been creating.
>>
Tried my hand at coming up with some powers for the Strong Guy

>STRONGMAN

Fated Duel: Choose an enemy and reduce two Strikes from both your and the chosen foe (Kings have immunity). Both can only attack each other.
+5 to all combat rolls until enemy is defeated

Protector: If an ally has suffered a combat Strike in a battle, you can choose to defend and fight alongside that character. Both characters gain +4 to combat while fighting together

Steel Drivin': Spend one Heart Point. Gain a huge bonus for the next five non-combat physical acts of strenght

What do ya'll think? I'm not sure if I captured the right feel, but I'm trying
>>
>>
>>36107312

Nice, but you're at least three days too late.
>>
>>36107312
Now this is an interesting resource to find!
>>
>>36107273
Hm... maybe a Strongman should have some kind of power tied in with showing off.
>>
>>36107273
I like steel driving, reminds me of John Henry. But I think it should have a short duration, like a burst of stamina and strength, not dragged out over 5 unrelated acts of strength.
>>
>>36106914
There were five of them, each with their own reasons for coming. Gretchen, burn scar down her face, who had a beautiful daughter she did not wish to see mutilated as she grew up. Richter, with lines of plugs through his cheeks, with a deeply sick brother who only magic could cure. Mieli, Glasgow grin, who had lost her father in a sudden blizzard out of Arendelle. Vara, too many scars to count and none of them self-inflicted, who was just crazy. And Maurice, empty eye-socket, ink filling it up and radiating outward from it.
Once all of the equipment had been unloaded, the sledges were nearly empty. This was to be a one-way trip; succeed and there would be a relief expedition to carry them back.
The mortar coughed- sound hopefully lost in the perpetually howling wind- sending the grapnel slamming into the crenellation of the ice-wall. A few minutes of climbing later, and the team was at the top.
The ice maze stretched out for what looked like miles before them.
"Go left from here," Queen Grimhilde, the Fairest, all-seeing, commanded, and they had no real option but to obey.
>>
>>36106886
I like the idea of the Pirate Code; would it be something actually written out and canon, or just an inside secret for the DM and pirate characters to work out through the game? I reckon the latter.
>>
>>36107387

Shouldn't that be more along Charisma Guy's skill tree?
>>
>>36107481
Probably made up by the DM, though some general rules could help.
>>36107486
The Strongman version of showing off could only be through feats of strength to impress or intimidate people.
>>
>>36105822
Has anyone tried transferring the pastes to a piratepad? It would let anons edit them in real time, instead of having to create a new paste and update the general any time anyone wants to make changes.

"Left here."
"Right here."
"Right again."
"Avoid the reddish patches of snow, they cover razor-ice pits."
The team jogged through the twisty passages of the ice labyrinth, all alike, their only bearings provided by Grimhilde's directions. The snowlems were quiescent; Elsa was asleep, and thus so were they.
"Hold on for a minute."
"Problem?" Maurice asked, too tense to think about formalities.
"The ice maze is shifting. I'm re-finding the best path." Maurice sighed, and tried to relax, leaning against the wall. He could see Vara getting visibly impatient, twitching and hopping from foot to foot.
"Okay, proceed back the way you came and turn left at the intersection-" and he ran off.
"Damn it, you bastard, wait for the rest of us!" Maurice snarled, taking off behind Vara, the rest of the team trailing behind.
So Vara was the one it happened to. He ran across an expanse of rough ice, cracking under his feet, and when he was halfway across it shattered entirely. And the ceiling shattered as well.
All Maurice got was an impression of /shredding/ before Vara disappeared from view entirely under tons of snow. He skidded to a halt, the remaining three behind him.
"Fuck," he said.
And then there were four.

>>
>>36108184

Nah man, Kronk is too bro-tastic to be.

>>

Social mini-boss maybe. Guy's so easy to confuse it'd probably faster to do that then actually fight him.
>>
>>36108184
I imagine she'd find a way to clone Kronk, since he's the perfect mix of strong, stupid and loyal for Yzma. An army of Kronks, each one labelled with a serial number, ready to do her dirty work at a moment's notice and exchange baking tips behind her back. Kronk Prime probably got mixed in there somewhere.
>>
>>36108184
Yzma's forces are primarily people transformed into animals using her potions.

Kronk is probably a high ranking beast of some sort that serves as her bodyguard. He's simple but loyal.

They were running now, all thoughts of stealth or conserving energy forgotten.
"The snowlems have come awake," Grimhilde said. Then, "Left here."
Then, "You're going to have to fight your way through here."
"What? Fuck. Unlimber lances!" Maurice yelled, as he got his own into position. Hunnic fire-lances; the Chinese were second only to Atlantis when it came to gunpowder, and their ghost-powder had its own advantages.
"Fire in sequence," Maurice said, and triggered his lance. A cone of brilliant sparks shot out, and he played it back and forth across the snowlems, the enchanted firework eating into their 'flesh'. Then the firework guttered out, and Maurice stepped back.
"Gretchen!" she stepped forward and fired. Then, when her lance guttered out-
"Richter!" After his guttered, there weren't any more left. They all paused for a few seconds while Richter recharged his lance, then advanced.
Stepping out for about half an hour to grab dinner.

I am definitely looking forward to Yzma's Sunless Empire and any PCs' dealings with her. She may be evil, but at least she's the FUN kind of evil.

For various reasons I cannot keep from imagining the following about her Empire:
>Half her citizens are still your garden variety humans, but the other half have animal parts or are full on chimera after generations of experimentation.
>Her "secret" laboratory has grown since becoming Empress into some sort of Fantasy-Incan Aperture Science Enrichment Center.
>Every new plot, plan or scheme she hatches is met not with horror and the gnashing of teeth but with boredom and rolled eyes by her jaded subjects.
>She is actually one of the more PC-friendly and amiable Villains, as even at her murderous worst she was always hilariously out of it and slightly inept.
>>
>>36108593

Clearly we must bring her to the PCs side, and then they must actually allow her to keep up her madness as the world is saved

Sure, the citizens will absolute hate the new heroes but it's going to be incredibly funny.

Either that, or have an Evil adventure simply dicking around the Sunless Empire, Alameda's West and the Shadowlands.

Two our of three as comedic regions can't possibly end badly

She may be amiable but it costs an arm and a leg just to get into her Empire, let alone to move freely around it. You best be wealthy or willing to incur her wrath before you go anyway near the sunless lands. There are taxes for everything and tolls on ever path. It's a prosperous realm... or at least it would be, if all that money wasn't going straight into elaborate monuments to the Empress.

Rumours persists that a despondent llama can be found in the Pridelands who claims to have once been the Emperor. Most dismiss this as the ramblings of a jealous beast.

>>

What do you suggest?
>>
>>36108713
Its not like it'd be impossible to make the PC's the Villain's mooks. Hell that could be the primary way to play, work for your villain's benefit, defend them and negotiate with other rulers.

Pretty sure that was on of the Buzz Lightyear villains. He claimed to kill Buzz but didn't really

Well, we still need to stat the faeries and work out if they get any penalties to ROBUSTNESS and whatnot.

Part of what may be happening is that we've just had a number of threads primarily focused on crunch, math and game mechanics, which has the tendency to wear people down a little faster than fluff threads. It's good to blow off steam a little and goof around to keep things light and fun. Also, keep in mind that this is the FIFTEENTH thread in only FIVE days. A little fatigue is bound to happen at this breakneck pace.
>>
>>36108940

If I'm not mistaken, Rourke's K/L/R said that if the party had enough renown the President might want to try to recruit them, right?

Does that mean that he supplies the recuits with Atlantean weaponry? Because the image of a guy from Alameda's Wil West running around with a laser sniper rifle pleases me greatly

>On June 9, 2014, it was announced that a second TV show called The Lion Guard was slated to premiere on Disney Junior in November 2015 as a one-hour movie, followed by new episodes in January 2016. The series will center around Simba and Nala's son Kion, who tries to assemble a team to protect the Pride Lands. Various characters from the first two films will also make appearances in the show, including Kiara, Timon, Pumbaa, Rafiki, Zazu, and Mufasa.[9][10] It will also feature new characters, including Fuli, a confident cheetah; Beshte, a happy-go-lucky hippo; Ono, an intellectual egret; and Bunga, a fearless honey badger. The new characters are set to be friends with Kion and join him on his adventures.[11]

Oh boy. I should never have gone looking for Disney cartoons...

>Has anyone statted her or figured out gameplay limits for her powers?
No stats or limits at the moment, as far as I know. Three strikes?
>What happens when she's redeemed, and how is such a thing accomplished?
She can come back to sanity by having the party talk to her and give her a shoulder to cry on. What happens next is really up to individual groups.

It had become very nearly routine- running, pause to lance down a few snowlems, run again, all the while guided by the voice of Grimhilde.
Then-
"Fffffffuck!" Maurice looked up from reloading his lance, and Gretchen with one foot down in- some sort of hole? Then Richter pulled her out, and he saw the bloody shreds and shards of razor-ice.
He looked around at everyone else, not wanting to say it, but knowing he would have to.
Fortunately, Gretchen saved him the trouble. "Go," he said. "I'll last as long as I can here."
Maurice nodded in acknowledgement, and they went, leaving her behind.
And then there were three.

At the top of Pride Rock, we have Scar, King of the Lions.

His harem consists of Zira (his Queen), Nala and several other Lionesses (Simba and Nala's mothers having died in the interim).

Kovu is the prince but he is far more villainous than he was in LKII due to Scar's influence. Nuka and Vitani are around but are kinda insignificant. Vitani is one of Scar's Lionesses as well?
>>
>>36109193

Isn't Rapunzel locked up somewhere by mother Grothel?

It would be neat though, maybe the party discovers that beforehand, that they have some connection. And then one of the reasons they can get through to Elsa is that she still has someone alive that needs her help, Rapunzel

Not a replacement for Anna of course, but it could be a sort of "I can't let my family down again" moment.
>>
>>36109193
Why would that help? She barely even knows repunzel, and i doubt repunzel even knows her either
>>
>>36109174
I love it.
>>
>>36109251

Well, Rapunzel WAS at her coronation. Even if it was just for the sake of, y'know, inviting important people I still think that Rapunzel is nice enough for it to matter.

Oh, oh

Maybe if the party does a sidequest where they stop Mother Grothel, they can take Rapunzel into Arrendelle as an option.

She could be a huge help trying to drag Elsa out of despair by recalling how she looked on the day of her coronation, and how much she had heard about her before

>"You know, I....I was once in despair like you, too. My mother almost killed the man I love a long time ago, and then I was locked in a dark place for so...So long.....But I know out there, he is still looking for me, you know? And even now, someone must still want you to be okay."

Mieli was the next.
"We're surrounded," Richter growled. They had a few minutes respite at the moment, but- even without the Queen providing them with to-the-minute updates on where the snowlem concentrations were, they could hear them moving around. The larger ones carried boulders within them, like glaciers, and were nearly impervious to the fire lances. The remainder of the team could hear them grinding against each other as they moved.
"Is there any way out?" Maurice asked.
"Not that I can see," Grimhilde said. She sounded almost- apologetic? A trick of the imagination.
"I could draw them off," Mieli said. They looked at her.
"Would that work?" Richter asked.
"Only one way to find out," she said, stood up, and took off running.
"Wait!" Maurice yelled, then stopped.
"Grimhilde?" he asked instead.
There was a wait of a couple of minutes.
"It's working," she said. "There's an opening. Here's where you need to go..."
And then there were two.

Mieli's distraction had been wildly successful; Maurice and Richter had been successfully avoiding the Snowlems for over an hour.
"You're almost into the town proper," the Queen said. "I've never observed any snowlems in this area, but you're almost to the Ice Princess herself." Maurice nodded, then spun around as a massive crack rang out.
The ice towers were omnipresent, and mostly ignorable; they were fancy on the outside, but had no interior, no entrances.
And now one of them was falling.
Towards them.
Neither of them said a word, just turned and started running.
Maurice dived to the ground as the tower hit, shattering into millions of pieces. Richter was slightly slower.

This is exactly how I feel about Snow Queen Elsa. It's a real test, not only of the characters' survival and combat ability, but in their social game as well and the players' own abilities to realize that not everyone in power in this world is evil and that not every big victory needs to be a martial one or even involve anyone's "defeat" at all.
>>
>>36109876
We have thought about it, we are saving it for the space splat when we get around to it. It's going to be with other things like WALL-E and Star Wars (and Marvel if I can help it)

If you don't have a scene where the new knights stand in a circle with King Arthur, and then the spirits of the old knights appear and then they all swear allegiance to the True King, you are doing it wrong.

And then Arthur comes back, and then all of a sudden it gets DISNEY AS FUCK

You'd need some SERIOUS social skills to convince people like Frollo and Jafar

There should REALLY be expanded social aspects considering how important the power of friendship and love is in disney movies, both between PCs and between the antagonists. Players should absolutely gain power from their friendships and strength of heart and even loves, and have it tie in heavily to the social aspect of the homebrew. Every single character should be able to be convinced to good, but you'd have to have trained skills, good rolls, and a really good base of friendship. Seriously, we should work on these mechanics.

I'm all for oblique references but I really don't think they should have any place in the main setting, nor any of the expansions.

Not every boss cause then what's the point of having a combat class? While some should be convert-able there are those who just won't be redeemed, Like The Horned King. He just wants everyone dead.

>>36110106
Of anything it would be in the space and sci-fi splat. Also it wouldn't be there so people can make jedi, it would be there to have more villains. Once the heroes beat Cherry Bomb they have to deal with great, galactic evils like Emperor Palpatine and Emperor Zurg.
>>
>>36110169

May I ask what needs to be decided on for each races? Are we considering each individual nation in this world as its own "race" in terms of abilities and crunch? I feel like I may have lost the crunch train in this regard over the course of the threads.
>>
>>36110106
Then play it down. Very few PC Jedi, if any. Make sure people know the space splat is a little more powerful than other stuff. Or just have it all perfectly balanced, and make it known that PCs using space splat rules will be penalized for badly roleplaying the fact that they probably know jack all about the world because, y'know, from space.

Right, but I'm thinking somehow linking the power of the character's friendships and emotions and stories to convince the villains.
>>36110209
They're usually fighting you WHILE you're talking to them. You need to be good at fighting to not get murdered.

Think about it, we're playing Disney here - We should always keep the option for redemption with every villain open, even the spineless evil death lich of murder and giant demon straight from hell. He just needs a hug.

It's a lot more disneyesque if PCs go around showing villains the error of their ways and changing their tyranny into benevolent, enlightened rule instead of just murdering the local tyrant and la-de-daaing onto the next realm.
>>

Zurg is fine but Palpatine feels so out of place, it's not even funny.

If I'm reading right, Frollo is now a lich?

This seems like a disservice to his character.
>>
This is a prelim, I would like some delicious feedback if possible. His alchemical skills are apparently a holdover from the books, according to one anon.

King: PONTIFEX IMMORTALIS FROLLO ∞- The Righteous Man. A lord driven insane by the conflict of his zealous devotion and his sinful desires, not to mention the whispers of a certain God of Night, the rampages of Maleficent and the ascension of the vile Horned King and the infidel Jafar, Frollo has ascended to the Papacy and has stayed there ever since, transformed by foul magic and darkest alchemy into a skeletal, lich-like being. He sees heresy against his God - and who exactly that is is up for debate - in every nook and cranny of his kingdom, and against them he sends his Inquisitors, armed with a weapon of his own invention - Holy Flame, a strange liquid that burns with terrible heat and a blinding white light, can drive away most magic and even disrupt famed of atlantean technology. The Holy Flame is almost impossible to extinguish once it has been set alight. Frollo has also created a variety of other substances that can send the imbiber into a berserk state, increase susceptibility to commands, grant immunity to pain and many others.

Land: Good Catholics, One and All - The centre of the Archdiocese overlaps entirely with Maleficent's fae realm, and the control of each settlement there is essentially defined by which of the two the locals are more afraid of. A Wild Hunt will drive them towards worshipping the Mistress of all Evils, but a visit from the Inquisition will send them back into the folds of the True Church. Red robes cover shrines to the Gentry, whilst fairie skulls nailed with iron and lit with Holy Flame adorning the omnipresent churches and cathedrals. Patrols of red-robed Inquisitors bearing primitive, hand-cranked flamethrowers, cold iron axes and brazier-lances counter fey attacks and cut down their dwelling-groves.

Not quite done.

Races and classes need to be balanced around Humans, who have on average 8 in every stat. The non-human characters should have up to +2 to one kind of roll at least, and probably 2 to differentiate them.

Carnosaur
Size: Large to Huge

Natural Weapons: Bite, Charge

Racial Traits:
Lizard King: +2 to Persuasion of reptilians

Tyrant's Roar - Can force an enemy to skip an action in place of the player attacking, perhaps? Kind of a support power, wouldn't work on bosses.

Slicing Teeth: +2 to Strike unarmoured foes
OR
Bonecruncher: Ignores Armour

Bull Charge: May charge into combat
OR
Go the Distance: (Not sure, some sort of stamina thing.)

>>
>>36110379
Sorry, I just got here.

Being a reverent, religious (albeit terribly flawed) man is pretty central to Frollo's character, in both the book and the movie. Practicing magic in secret would be plenty in character, but throwing around sorcery publicly is the opposite of how he should be operating. He'd fit better as a cruel and unhinged mortal, driven ever further mad by his personal failures and the mounting despair around him. He'd prviately fret about how God seems to have abandon him in his darkest hours while bringing the forces of Christendom to bear on those who defy him and perhaps maintain some secret sorcery on the side to eliminate those who prove particularly stubborn. But above all, he'd still be quite mortal.

But looks like you guys have already made your mind up, so I'll just leave it to you. Don't want to be that guy.

To the south and east, different problems present themselves. The heathens of the Sultanate of Agrabah, the foul pagans and demons under Hades' rule, the vile undead to the north and, worst of all, the heretic Protestants to the east in the Mirror Kingdom. The people of these areas are not as paranoid or twitchy as their fae-land counterparts, but they still fear the Inquisition, who mercilessly route out any resemblance of heresy with lots and lots of flame. It is from these areas, mostly, that the brave Knights of Frollo's mad crusades come from whenever he declares that God wills the death of them.

Rule - CHOOSE ME OR YOUR PYRE: The players will be watched by the eyes of the Inquisition as soon as they enter the Archdiocese, especially if they have established a reputation for themselves. If they show the slightest inkling of heresy in his lands, holy fire shall be brought upon them. The players will likely find little quarter or local help here, so fanatical and fearful are the parishioners.

>Quasimodo never betrayed Frollo, and to reward him for capturing Esmeralda and revealing the Head of the guards betrayel and the court of miracles, Frollo finds it fair enough to place Quasimodo as head excutioner.

>Quasimodo could not be happier though. Two people who laughed at him behind his back dead (thats what the voice of god said), and not only does his father finally love him, hes also loved by god and all of paris! At least, thats what frollo says...but hes only doing that to protect me...right?

"Hellooooooo!"
"Oh what the fuck."
"My name's Anna!"
Maurice looked at the... person? Snowlem? Indeterminate thing in front of him.
"Grimhilde?" He whispered, long since past caring about the niceties.
"I don't know either," she said.
"Are you here looking for Elsaaaa?" the thing asked.
"...yes?"
"Great! She really needs some friends that aren't products of her own misery and despair!" the thing said, grabbing his hand and dragging him- to Elsa, presumably?
"And you would be...?" Maurice asked, desperately trying to get some sort of grip on what was happening.
"Oh, I used to be Elsa's friend, but then she accidentally froze me to death and-" Maurice let the tide of babble wash over him. He was too tired to think right now.
"...and here we are!" The Anna-thing declared, and there, indeed, she was- slumped in a throne of ice, clearly dead to the world.
"Elsa! I found a guuuuuy!" the thing yelled, and the Ice Princesses' eyes fluttered open.
Maurice stepped forward, leveled his fire-lance, and fired.
The next day, the sled dogs gave up on waiting and set off for home, towing their empty sledges behind them.
Is anyone still reading?

Eh, the way I'm writing it, each of the knights has a post to stand at, a post that will in some way prove that the man before them is in fact King Arthur. The Black Knight stands at a chokepoint and lets none pass; Arthur must show him Excalibur's might. The Green Knight's post is one that tests intellect, the Blue Knight's one that tests agility and the Red Knight's one tests how Arthur might handle a royal court and all the politics that come with it. The White Knight waits in a sacred grove; all Arthur needs to do to be recognized is to show the proper respect to the old gods.

The knights must stay at their posts and must wait for a suitable replacement to happen to walk by if they get too old. You might say the process lacks quality control; as a result, the Black Knight believed that the Horned King's victory means Arthur would never come about until he was smote by Excalibur, the Green Knight is sometimes more interested in strategy games than he is reality, the Blue Knight is a ditz and the Red Knight is quite vain. The White Knight gets a free pass because he's the Sensible one.

I assume the campaign would begin after Arthur had proved himself to each, but the way you're thinking about is pretty cool too, though. I might write up two backstories for two different themed campaigns

I am! Not entirely sure what happened at the end there, but I am.

An anon wrote a small story about how Frollo, as a mortal Pope, was growing increasingly disillusioned with his faith. Between Jafar's growing Islamic forces, the Hellenic Gods walking the earth and the Fey infringing on his northern borders, Frollo was beginning to doubt his God's divine power.

After beating Esmerelda (his paramour) to death in a fit of impotent rage, he bares himself before God and begs for guidance. Esmerelda's corpse rises from the floor and offers to make his fears go away. An exhausted Frollo accepts and she kisses him, turning him into an undead lich and draining away those mortal worries.

Now Frollo is the undead, implacable Pope. He will not stop until the heathens lie bleeding and the true word of the Lord is spread across the world. Cardinals whisper that he has been corrupted by the devil but never too loudly. He has a nasty habit of burning alive those who question him.

I have returned from my multiple hour departure. I shall begin some writing on the Shadowlands, and Land of the Fae.

First up, The Shadowlands.

"I can tell you much of these lands, traveler. That's why your friend paid so dearly for my services. Now, now, no need to be so bitter. A deal's a deal down here, my boy. You know what they say, an eye for a guide. ...They don't? Well, someone oughtta start."

"No matter. These are the Shadowlands. Home of...Let's call him Mister Black, shall we? No need to to speakin' names or titles where anyone can hear, you follow? And trust me, he can hear damn near everywhere."

"You may have noticed the sun's setting sooner than you think, eh? That poor thing. I hear it shines different in every Kingdom. A King's Will trumps a little star, don't it? Here, we don't get much sun. And it spends most of 'em low on the sky, letting the shadows strrreeeeeetttcchhh theyselves all along the waters. Twilight takes hours down here"

"That's the way Mister Black likes. He likes his shadows, deep, often, and long. They say they can peel off the ground and fly secrets to his ears. Some folks laugh, till they see it happen. Watch what you say 'round here. If the Big Man hears somethin' he don't like, you may wake up to find the shadows from the corners of your room dragging you 'afore him."

"T'other reason is deals. Pacts. Bargains. Everyone loves 'em down here. And I mean everyone. Men, women, kids, dogs, hell, I know trees that'll make a deal if you've got the right...bark? heh heh, Just a little joke, miboy. Nothin' foolin'. Spirits 'round here been tipped to the wheelin' and dealin'."

"Now, if you stick to the edges, it ain't so bad. Mostly just bayous, swamps, jungles, and so on. It'll be wet, hot, and oppressive, and you'll deal with skeeters, gators, and your odd swamp-cat. And a witch or two."

"Down south, though, DEEP in the heart, is the Necropolis. That's where HE live. Mister Black. The Big Man. The High Roller.

Probably size Giant, but we could wrap in a very short Allosaurus or something into it.

Natural weapons provide +2 to Brawl.

Racial traits:
Lizard King: +3 instead of +2.

Bonecruncher seems much better than Slicing Teeth, but both are good traits.
Bull Charge: Make the bonus +2, and stacks with Giant Size bonus for a total of +6 on a charge.
Impossible Strength: +2 to Robustness Cap

Attributes: +2 Robustness to stack with the +4 for Giant, for a total of 12 of 14.
+2 Agility, -2 Intelligence, -2 Charisma, -2 Sensibility.

Just to be clear, I don't mean to disparage your work as badly as I probably have. I just think we should take advantage of the setting and find unique ways to incorporate elements of Disney canon into the fluff. You've been borrowing Geoff Monmouth and just inserting it into Prydain (which is supposed to be virtually uninhabited by non-cauldronborn).

I'd much rather see an Arthurian spin that tried finding Knightly candidates from within the Disney canon rather than inventing new ones.

In fact, I'm going to start looking for suitable candidates for a reformed Round Table. I imagine some of the Princes would make good choices.

Have we already placed Lady Tremaine as a member of Grimhilde's court? Or is she entertaining as a high-class noblewoman in the Holy Lands?

Also, going by the sequels, her daughter Anastasia is quite capable of turning away from her mother's influence. Provided that she gets a little push. So, there might actually be a reason to 'Do what must be done.'

"You're from the Pontifex's Lands, yeah? All Dour stone, sneering Gargoyles, and holier-than-thou Priests? So you're probably expectin' the Necropolis to be Somber. Empty Mausoleums, grim reflection, all that Cath-Oh-Lick Guilty mix, yeah? Well then, you're in for a shock."

"See, the Necropolis means just that 'City of The Dead.' And down here, dead ain't as quiet as it is elsewhere. Zombi walk the streets, shadow-men flit here and there, and everything's an explosion of noise, color, and light. Because the quiet of the grave ain't comfortable, and shadows need lights to go a creepin'. "

"And in this explosion, you got games of every shape and size, gambles that would blow your mind, and food, food food. If you've never been to the Shadowlands, you probably don't know what good food tastes like."

"Spirits, Men, Shadows, and "Friends" all trying to one-up one another. It's a dog-eat-dog world down there. I hear, just rumors, you mind, that there's a game the Big Man throws, hisself, once a year. And some of the other bigwigs come over to have a spin and blow off some steam. Supposedly, if you can get on that table, you can win things you couldn't even dream of. 'Course, Losing wouldn't be your smartest move."

"Hmm? Oh, yeah, hold up a minute, gotta bleed a little for this willow here. What? I told you I knew a tree or two to cut deals with. Now, where do you all want to go? The Big City, huh? I kinda figured."

"One warning, once you're there. If you meet Mister Black, best to play along. He was a Proud man, back before he was a King. He don't like disrespect. You bow, scrape, smile, and butter him up some, you'll probably walk out alive. Or at least, mobilely deceased. And if he offer you a deal? Say no. As polite as you can. Personally, one thing I'd like to see explored as an idea for the Horned King is the addition of Barrow-Wights to his land.

Based as he is on Celtic Myth, the idea that his army of Cauldron-born are lead by the intelligent corpses of risen nobles and kings of old would be interesting, and give a neat option for PCs, as independent or not intelligent undead.

He's been dead a few times as I recall, and there ARE active necromancers in this world. Who is to say Hades or Mr. Black wouldn't want an undead sorcerer as a lieutenant?

Trying to read the map, Russia is split between Cherno and the Huns?

Rasputin was being used as Chernabog's day-to-day supervisor but we are throwing that out till the Dreamworks and other Disney-like movies splat

>The Cauldron-Born's greatest advantage is that they are not alive, and thus cannot be killed. They feel no pain or fear or mercy, do not need water or food or sleep, and they never question orders because they possess no soul or memory of who they were in life. Simply put, they are puppets of Arawn who will obey his every command.

Maybe HK would make Barrow-Wights, but I doubt they'd be properly independent - more likely just to be copies of his mind. And as a PC race, they'd probably be too difficult. They feel no fear, no pain, reform if killed, are very strong and resilient, are feared and despised by everyone who knows of them, and are also quite reliant on the Cauldron-haze.

Regarding weapons (or lack thereof) in combat, we should make everything from guns to swords pretty much equally viable for use.

How can we go about this? Just make all weapons do 1 strike per hit as a default before taking into account traits, skills, and powers?

>The New Round Table
>Rumours persist of an underground movement throughout Europe built on the old ideals of Chivalry and the legend of King Arthur. The Knights of the Round Table are long dead and turned into skulking Cauldronborn under the thrall of the Horned King. However, their legend persists and a new Round Table has been forged. Although only a small band, their allies are many and they are ever watchful of potential candidates for their solemn order.
>The Knights reformed under the watchful eye of the Sorcerer, Yen Sid. A former apprentice of Merlin, the stern wizard remembers his master's fall at the hands of the villainous Madame Mim. Yen Sid went into hiding when the Villains made their move but now, as things begin to settle down, he has travelled the land and recruited five brave heroes to become the new Knights of the Round Table.
>Sir Kay, Arthur's adoptive brother, fell into deep depression upon the death of his King. He roamed Europe, drinking heavily, until he was recruited by Yen Sid. A master huntsman, Kay has a keen eye for his environment and believes that he alone can find and restore King Arthur to power. (Sensibility)
>Sir Timothy appears to many to be a lowly mouse but his form hides a great courage and a keen creative mind. Timothy has a natural charisma that charms everyone he meets. His seemingly wide eyed innocent putting them at east. After all, how much harm could a mouse possibly do? Timothy has no personal ties to King Arthur but he truly believes in the ideals of the man and will fight with his fellow Knights to restore them. (Charm)
>Sir Eugene is a former thief who found redemption when he resisted the rule of Queen Grimhilde. Forced to flee his homelands, he was eventually recruited by Yen Sid. His skills as a thief make him more agile than his fellow knights and he is keen to restore King Arthur and prove that he has truly turned his life around. (Agility)

A hero's weapon that does 3 strikes of damage if the wielder has only one strike left? Or should that be an ability?
>>
>>36111408
We have all agreed that any given weapon will only grant a bonus to its associated attack skill. Except for magic weapons, but those are something we've not looked into yet.

>Sir Philip is the Prince of a now defunct realm, swallowed up by Malificent's vast tangle of thorny vines. He is a natural soldier and dedicated himself to the memory of King Arthur, a man whose court he remembers visiting in his youth. Impressed with the King's benevolent rule, Philip hopes to restore this bastion of the good to a suffering world. His fighting ability is great and few can stand against him in a fight. (ROBUST!)
>Lady Jane is the final member of the new table. Her fighting skills were honed during a disastrous trip to Africa which saw her father perish and their guide abandon her to fight against the indigenous wildlife and reach safety. An intelligent young woman, Jane is inquisitive and well aware of the historical nature of Arthur’s story. She desires his return as much as she desires revenge on the hunter that abandoned her in Africa and cost her father his life. Her true power lies in her intellect but she possesses a savage fighting style that tends to surprise her enemies. (Intelligence)

Yes, those are what Cauldron-Born do.

Barrow-wights are from a different cosmology.

It's more the idea that with an unthinking, unquestioning army, they're very unwieldy. if it's literally just him and his Cauldron-born, that means he has to go to every border skirmish, every incursion, every village to demand (whatever he demands, OR, he commands them from his castle, and just hopes for the best.

With a middle tier of another form of undead, perhaps not created from the Cauldron (HK is a powerful sorceror on his own, remember) we can have regional/immediate responses, while still maintaining his "unfeeling army of the dead."

Sounds really overpowered if someone chooses to voluntarily take strikes before battle and then pops all defensive traits/powers.

Damn, ok Eugene should be charm and Timothy the former circus mouse should be agility. I fucked that one up.
