/tg/ - Traditional Games

Welcome to the XIV installment of "Disney Villains Victorious."

Disney Villains Victorious is a new /tg/ homebrew project based on the idea of a world, not entirely unlike our own, in which all the villains from all the Disney animated feature films were not defeated at the ends of their movies but were instead victorious, completing their goals in part or in whole.

It is a world in which Ursula rules the seas, defied only by the uncatchable Pirate Lords, the cutthroat merchants of the East India Trading Company and the might of Atlantis and its magitech-toting mercenaries. It is a world where the grasslands and jungles and forests are prowled not only by fearsome primal beasts like Shere Kahn and Scar but also by the ruthless, tireless hunters that stalk them. It is a world where Europe has been divvied up between evil sorcerous monarchs like Maleficent, the Horned King, Grimhilde and Jafar, mad, inquisitorial clergymen like Frollo, and Dark Gods like Hades and Chernobog.

It is not, however, a world completely devoid of courage, heroism or hope. Around the world, the PCs' characters and their allies plot and plan, fight and strive and win their own victories against the villains that would rule them. The time to fight and to be free is now.

Powers for the collective group I'm going to call pirates, Men and Women of the Sea:

>Men and Women of the Sea

>Sea Legs
- Men and women of the sea are used to living and working aboard ship, and as such have adapted their mannerisms accordingly. Whenever aboard and sort of watercraft, all physical stats receive a boost.

>The Rum is Never Gone:
- Being a pirateis a hard lifestyle, oftentimes needing a hard drink to make it a little more tolerable. A Man or Woman of the Sea is able at any moment to find or produce from their person a flask or bottle of alcohol upon need.

>Swashbuckling:
- A Man or Woman of the Sea is a master duelist and Swashbuckler, and when engaged in one-on one combat is guaranteed to be able to match his or her opponent if they are unanke to best them for as long as they can keep moving.

What about Rasputin? Since we already have The Road to El Dorado reps, couldn't he be given a role and a part of European Russia? After all, from what I've gathered, Chernobog is the top dog of the setting, he's like a greater evil deity and doesn't really need that much land to himself, he runs everything from behind the scenes anyway.

I apologize if it's something that's been talked to death before, I've only recently started following these threads.

That dark purpose he said was going to be fulfilled? It wasn't to finish off the Romanovs; it was to make sure God never comes back into the world so Chernabog goes unchallenged.
>>
>>36097032
He'll show up in the Victorious Villains: Bad Bluth expansion.
>>
>>36097053
Hm... Maybe Facilier is also doing that same purpose.
>>
>>36097032

I believe that there was talk of making him one of Chernobog's clerics, so to speak.

A power for anyone unfortunate enough to live in Cheenobog's shadow:

>See No Evil, Hear No Evil
- Those forced to live in the shadow of Bald Mountain have been so steeped in evil for so long that they have become somewhat jaded to it. Sights and sounds that would horrify and frifhten anyone else do not affect the character, or can be shrugged off with less effort.

He could be. We have many tiers of Villains with many different motivations.
>>

The Woodsman delivers. I hope i'm in time, Here's the 100 Acre Wood Races.

Note: as the title says, this is an extremely rough draft, and by no means the final version. Feel free to state any changes you'd like to add.

I'll try to add a link to the newest, latest version of the Unique7Key Character Events listing soon-ish.

as to how the guy became a lich, I say keep it mysterious, whether gypsy curse, Chernobog tricking him or him willingly sliding into darkness should be something decided by the GM.
>>
>>36097265
What do you mean when you say things like "robustness superior, intelligence dump"? That the characters should put work their stats in such a way to respect these guidelines? Because that doesn't seem fun.
>>
>>36097347

...i guess i could've stated that one better. It means that whatever stat turns out to be the highest, even by one point, is Superior, and same in inverse for the Dump.

Actually, i'll go and change that one now...

Knightfag from previous threads here. I've been ruminating on No Luck For The Tough; some of the misfortunes would be resisted by Prevent Harm, while the others would be resisted by Endure, so the bonus should be +3 to Prevent Harm and Endure instead of +5 to Endure. Yes, this takes it from +5 total to +6 total, BUT being besot by misfortunes is sort of intangible anyways. Also, methinks the trait should be restricted to those whose highest trait is ROBUSTNESS!

Ideas I've had for traits of a similar nature with similar restrictions:

Nimble Trait: You gain +3 to Prevent Harm and Acrobatics, but bad things constantly happen around you. You always get out of it okay, but the people around you don't always.

Smart Trait: You gain +5 to your favorite Smart Guy skill, but.....something. I'm not really sure what. You have trouble explaining yourself to others about that subject because you can't stop using jargon? You get your nose stuck in a book too often?

Charismatic Trait: You are quite beautiful, even by the standards of Disney protagonists, gaining +4 to Deceit and Persuasion against the opposite gender......but from time to time, you attract some attention that you certainly don't want.

Can't think of a Sensible Trait among these lines.

Ideas for traits and powers which are inherently knightly?
>>
Morning everyone. To the anon who's writing the Atlantean expedition to Arendelle story, I love it so far. I think you've really captured the spirit of Rourke's Atlanteans, and I'm curious to see what you'll do with Elsa and her snow creatures as they've not had any actual writing done for them so far.
>>
>>36097091
>>36097100
There was a Prydain Trait that reduced fear-based damage from undead by one strike because of constant exposure to the Cauldronborn.....I'd say reducing all fear-based damage by 2 strikes would be a suitable Bald Mountain Power, because it's not easy at all to get 3 strikes in on a single attack.
>>
>>36097081
Facilier would want to keep God from ever coming back for sake of his Friends on the Other Side, not Chernabog.
>>
>>36097032
We can have Lichsputin, but he might not necessarily be THAT Lichsputin. We can have Stalich too, now I think about it.
>>
Sweet, new thread

What is still left to come up with concerning character creation, guys? I remember there was talk of XP and traits last thread
>>
>>36097701
Yes, there was. We also need class-based and nation-based powers.....maybe a few more generic ones too for that matter.
>>
>>36097685
Is there an animated movie with Stalin? The reason we use Rasputin is cause his movie fits with the theme and he can be useful for Chernabog. He is already a lich in his movie so that works out. Rasputin isn't needed though. Chernabog can do his evil thing without a servant running the show when he's busy. I say we leave that sort of thing up to the DM.

For that matter, have we established how weapons, shields and armor will work? Especially considering we have different sizes of weapons (light one handed, heavy one handed, two handed), shields (light, heavy) and armor (light, medium, heavy)? And of course, there will be magical weapons, shields and armor....
>>
>>36097802
We're generally trying to go more simple than that, the game is supposed to be very rules light after all.

I don't remember the specifics, but iirc armor would give a flat bonus to not taking damage such that an appropriately heroic figure wearing it would basically be immune to mooks
>>
>>36097802
Well, cause we use the strike system not sure what difference there will be between weapons. Armor and shields and stuff are just going to reduce strikes on the players.
>>
>>36097767
I still think it'd be cool to include a Lichsputin as a reference without him being that particular Lichsputin. And Stalich is just there because Stalin as a lich would be a pretty cool servant of Chernabog.
>>
>>36097850
Hrm....I had a different thought.

Light armor and shields could grant a bonus to Agility-based Prevent Harm, while Heavy armor and shields would grant a bonus to Robustness-based Prevent Harm. Not sure what I want to do with Medium Armor....

IIRC, all melee weapons grant a bonus to attack. Light one handed weapons could attack with Agility, while heavy one handed weapons and two handed weapons would attack with Robustness. Two handed weapons grant larger bonuses than comparable one handed weapons, but are obviously incompatible with shields.

That's good. I think traits should have that kind of Disney quote fell to them.

Are references to other well known fantasy works also kosher? I've already made
>It's Just A Flesh Wound! (Monty Python and The Holy Grail)
>I Am Not Left Handed! (The Princess Bride)
>But It Is Not This Day! (Lord of the Rings)

If they are kosher, I really want to come up with a "My Name Is..." Power that isn't just the same thing as It's Just A Flash Wound!
>>
>>36098014
Fuck it, sure! It makes it fun and enjoyable to make traits.
>>
>>36097942
True, true. One other thing I'd like to mention.....perhaps to avoid having to give penalties to armor while keeping it fair for people whose character concept doesn't include chainmail or plate armor, we can have normal clothing count as light or heavy armor?
>>
>>36098061
Why not put penalties on armour? Knights and that get a bonus when they use their ROBUSTNESS! to avoid damage if they're in heavy armour. Lightly armoured nimble guys get bonuses when they wear
>>
>>36098160
*when they wear light armour. Both take penalties to using the other method.

Prepare To Die!: When using My Name Is.....and You Killed My Father, additionally gain +5 to your attacks.

>>36098271
Well, thing is, there's some armors that could really go either way, like a simple chainshirt would benefit both Robustness and Agility. That's why there could be a Medium category....or, maybe, we should be a bit flexible on what's light and what's heavy. Some armors like chain shirts can be light or heavy depending on who's wearing them, even if it's more effective as a light armor than as a heavy armor.

>Snow White
Killed by Queen Grimhilde long before the villain's victories. Rumours persist that a rag tag group of Dwarves have preserved her corpse and desperately search for a way to restore her to life. Dealings with Hades, Lord of the Underworld, are one such avenue of resurrection.

>Cinderella
This former serving girl is now a nun in Catholic France. She has been linked to an underground revolutionary movement known as the Glass Slipper but she maintains that she is absolutely loyal to Pope Pierre II.

>Princess Aurora
This mythical Princess has long been lost to the world. Supposedly she still lives on, sealed behind the vast briars of the Faerie. Few have seen her prison. Less still have escaped Malificent's evil clutches.

>Princess Ariel
The Voiceless Mermaid is a legend beneath the seas. Living in the thrall of the sea witch, this broken and beaten young woman lives in constant fear of her life.

>Princess Belle
Nobody knows what happened to Belle when her love, the Beast, was shot and killed by Gaston. Fanciful stories place her in Australia, seeking revenge against the Hunters but the validity of these stories is unknown.

>Princess Jasmine
The unwilling bride of Jafar, Jasmine finds herself locked away in the palace. With her loyal ally, Rajah, driven from the realm and lurking in India, Jasmine is seemingly alone. However, the plucky Princess is plotting an escape disguised as a lowly peasant girl while Rajah attempts to rally the Indian Beasts against the encroaching Caliphate.

>Pocahontas
Slaughtered during Ratcliffe's attack on her tribe, Pocahontas became a matyr for those who resented Ratcliffe's totalitarian rule.
>>
>>36098433

>Princess Mulan
Slain fighting against the Hun, the Ancestor's Spirits were not done with brave Mulan. Resurrected again and again, she has become an avatar for Chinese liberation although her humanity is slowly wearing away with each successive restoration.

>Princess Tiana
Many are those small beasts who claim to have met a weeping frog in Ratigan’s Under Empire. Supposedly, her lover was taken from her and she was forced to flee her homeland, but the truth of the matter is unknown. Any who approach her find her unwelcoming, lost in her own depression.

>Princess Rapunzel
Rapunzel remains sealed with Gothel’s tower, her magical hair providing eternal life to any willing to pay. She longs for freedom but with the Mirror watching her night and day, she knows there is little hope.

>Princess Merida
Savaged and torn apart by Mor’du, Merida persists as a mystical Wisp and has resolved to lend what help she can to all those who challenge Mor’du.

I'm not entirely sure myself. However, Taran killed Arawn (a character who HK was heavily based on) in the book series, so it would definitely involve Merlin aiding him because he's destined to slay the Horned King.

I'd rather there not be "Official" fates of characters, and instead leave their fates up to the DMs who would run this game.

>>
>>36098741
Well I did say fates of the official princesses rather than official fates of the princesses.

I'm all for changing them to more explicitly rumour based so that there's room for the DM's discretion.
>>
>>36098729

>>36098957
this has to be a thing
please tell me this is an option
>>
>>36099299
Of course it is. The DM of the game just has to make it so.
>>
>>36099265

I think that stuff like shotguns and high-recoil weapons will have a robustness requirement, but we still haven't reached a consensus on atlantean lasers
>>
>>36099427
Please, few hard caps.

There should be soft caps instead. If you're not above a certain Robustness when using high-recoil weapons then you're going to get smacked in the face and may take a strike.

Hard caps suck and rarely make a lot of sense. Limit them to stuff that you literally can't do without a certain skill.
>>
>>36099427
the large ones should have a robustness requirement because they're just plain heavy, they're made of rocks after all.

The small ones (tiny pistols) should have some kind of dexterity requirement to fire quickly, since they're light and don't have much of a barrel to aim down.
>>
>>36099496
I could see this working. Ooh, maybe for melee weapons, there's a limit for how much robustness you need to wield it one-handed, but you can still wield it two-handed (no bonuses, it's not like you were wielding it two-handed out of choice) with slightly less.
>>
So, playtests when? I volunteer for when we do it.
>>
>>36099548
seconded, and I volunteer as well
>>
By the way, if all animals are intelligent, what's the stance on livestock?
>>
>>36099511
Depends on the weapons, there's Old Atlantis tech and Crystal tech

If you look at the opening to Atlantis it looked like the infantry used some kind of spear styled weapon, and the newly made Atlantean weapons are a kind of hybrid, weaker than the old Atlantis tech but lighter as they use things like wood; being styled after rifles.
>>
>>36099589
...you know what, you just raised a very valid point. It's much less morally sound to eat an hamburger in a world where cows can talk.
>>
>>36099589
Lots of people don't like it. Lots of people ignore it. Lots of people are too desperate to care.
>>
>>36098957
Wait. So is Mulan's situation similar to that of Talion and Celebrimbor in Shadow of Mordor? Going after Hun warchiefs in order to get a shot at killing Shan Yu, a unable to truly die until she succeeds in her mission?

Because that would be fucking awesome.
>>
>>36099623
Basically
But she leaves a body.
The huns keep a score board of how many times each warlord kills her
>>
Question: Why are we putting rules in place that let the GM decide things about the Princesses or whatever. Surely we should come up with an official stance and if individual GMs don't like, they're free to change it for their campaign. To allow this, everything we decide about the Princesses can be written off as a rumour or propaganda spread by some form of rebel.

It seems very wishy-washy to absolve ourselves of making decisions about important characters just so that people can choose their favourite canon. They're free to do that anyway. There's no rule saying you must obey the fluff.
>>
>>36099613
Maybe some animals are smart, but others aren't. Is it a genetics thing?
>>
>>36099658
Perhaps there are different species of animal. I mean, we've seen non-intelligent cows outside of that one movie.
>>
>>36099589
Sentient animals can be livestock. Animals can communicate with other animals and fairy creatures, but not with humans.
>Sentient animals as livestock: Home on the Range
>Sentient Animals being eaten: Lion king, little mirmaid (Les Poisson)
>>
>>36099683
>but not with humans.
Sven begs to differ. Maybe some humans learn to speak animal if they spend a lot of time around them?
If so, the only humans who can speak to animals would be farmers. Who know they're sending their animals off to die.
>>
>>36099657
Yeah, i think its a pretty weak stance for us to take on a important issue. We should make some things canon, but also encourage players to pick and choose like 40j
>>
>>36099713
Kind of a moot point since Alameda Slim owns all the cattle ranches and slaughterhouses in North America.
>>
>>36096972
Queen La and the Coachman probably have the least detail on them, plus whatever's happening on Dino Island or in Bagheera's territory.
>>
>>36099713

Sven can just sorta talk to Kristoff. He uses mimic mostly.

As with Maximus, Pascal, Altivo, etc. The animals don't speak human, we just kinda know what each other mean
>>
>>36099657
If we make an absolute canon for this setting we create issues where DMs would decide something different and a player would argue, saying "But is the canon of Villains Victorious..." I'd rather we provide some ideas for the princesses and let the DMs chose from those rather than make a 100% true canon. It's not cause I don't want to, it's cause I want people to have freedom.

Though this is just my perspective. I vote against coming up with a canon for princesses.
>>
>>36099800
Why would you play with someone who corrects the GM about the canon? He's the fucking GM, he should control his players better.

Besides, the rumour clause comes into play.

>But in the canon of VV, Belle is in Australia trying to kill Gaston!
>That was just a rumour, she's Scar's human consort
>>
>>36099800
>Due to the nebulous nature of information in this new Villain ruled world, it is hard to say with any certainty where many of the heroes of old now are. Popular rumours persist but their validity is debated and often dismissed as mere propaganda. Ultimately, it is up the the GM to decide whether any of the following stories are true in their campaigns.
>>
>>36099890
>>36099890
>>That was just a rumour, she's Scar's human consort
I'd correct my DM too if that was what he came up with as an alternative
>>
>>36099890

We can't tell people what to do or who ti game with anon. That's like saying "you can only play tjis if...." which is bullshit

I vote against making a canon too
>>
>>36099890
>>36099931
Then all I ask is come up with multiple rumors. Something like with Arthur bring either under the mountain or running the rebellion or dead.
>>
>>36097850
What about enchanted weapons like the fairy godmothers sword and shield for prince philip? Rules light j understand but their should be bonuses yes?
>>
>>36099800
But we if we don't have some sort of definite canon for this setting, we don't have a setting, just a bog of ideas.
>>
>>36099970
Those are their own thing. We were mostly debating mundane weapons right now.

Enchanted weapons should definitely have unique effects, and they should also be hard to find.

>>36099961
But were not telling them what do, were just giving them a solid base to start off of. They can change what ever they like
>>
>>36099966
For some of the characters but why do we need three variants for, say, Jasmine, who is almost certainly held prisoner by Jafar and only in very specific adventures would she be anywhere else?

Arthur is more interesting because his 'villain' isn't a major character in our verse so it's unclear where he is. But some characters are just plainly in specific situations and anything else is just silly. Rapunzel is still imprisoned by Gothel. She's the source of many villain's immortality.

Basically, the rumour system exists to allow wiggle room for creative GMs but it shouldn't replace a strong central verse that provides a bunch of concrete potential adventure hooks.
>>
>>36099941
I was just making a bestiality joke
>>
>>36100048
I agree with this anon. Some of the heroes can be rumors but other ones it simply makes no sense if they escaped.

To go back to Aladdin for example: If Jaffar still has the lamp and sent Aladdin rocketing off then it might still make sense that's he's out there somewhere without any magic, but Jasime is almost certainly a prisoner

Perhaps a better system would be dividing the heroes into three categories.

>Definitively Dead
This character is dead. They may be brought back if certain conditions are met but, by and large, they will not factor into a typical campaign in any way.

>Alive but Imprisoned
This character is under a specific villain's control. This is likely an unwilling arrangement and these characters can be liberated by enterprising PCs.

>Alive and Free
These characters are widely thought to be alive but their location and intentions are unknown. There may be several stories about their current whereabouts and goals but it is up to individual GMs to decide which, if any, of these is true in their Campaign.

So for example, Snow White is dead, Jasmine is imprisoned and Belle is free (is she in Australia seeking revenge against Gaston, working with Cinderella to lead a rebellion in Catholic France or sleeping her way into power in the Kingdoms of the Beasts)..

To our Atlantean Writer:

Deep within the bowels of the A.E.S. Bellerophon's engine room, Junior Reactor Technician Mahrikatohka Smith fidgeted, sweating in her tank top and coveralls, wrench held loosely in one hand as she straddled the coolant pump she'd been tasked to fix. Her attention was not on the repair at hand, or on how the blue crystal hung from the chain around her neck pulsed in time with the ship's reactor, or even on the stifling heat of the engine room, but was focused on the headset she'd jacked into the ship's communication system and pulled down over her ears. It seemed that whatever she was listening to had the young mechanic by turns interested and irritated, if the Atlantean she muttered to herself was any indication.

"Junior Tech Smith, didn't your Mat-im ever tell you it was rude to eavesdrop?"

Drawled the Chief Engineer, folding his arms across his chest as he regarded the white-haired youth, his impressive mustache twitched upward in bemusement. The sound of her superior's voice was more than enough to break Mahrikatohka out of her reverie as well as loose a few choice Atlantean explitives from her mouth, almost giving her whiplash by how fast her head whipped around to face the older man.

"Yadlug-o-nih Chief! You scared the shit outta me!"

She blurted out before quite remembering the way she'd been trained to address officers. Disconnecting herself from the comm-port and shoving her headset down around her neck, the young mechanic stood at attention and offered a sharp salute, seeming just as embarrassed as she was irritated.

"I certainly hope not,"

The Chief said with a smirk as his underling righted herself, returning the salute a bit more casually before leaning himself back against the bulkhead with an achey-jointed grunt.

" Otherwise you'll be cleaning that coolant pump after you're done fixing it."

We should at least have a poll. Who wouldn't want to join up with MerSora and battle Ursula?
>>
>>36100555

The young woman's nose wrinkled up and she stuck her tongue out in a comically childish expression of disgust, sliding her wrench back into its holster at her hip as she looked to the older engineer.

"Kwam, you know it's just a figure of speech, Chief. And the pump's fixed already. I was just -

"Listening in on the Away Team's briefing up in the motorpool."

The Chief said, finishing Mahrikatohka's sentence for her as he regarded the Junior Technician with a knowing look, evidently surprising her for a moment with his powers of perception. Grinning mightily in embarrassment, the young woman out her gloved hands on her hips and nodded, taking a cue from the Chief's more relaxed posture that she no longer needed to stand at attention.

"So you know I volunteered to go topside?"

"Captain Thatch asked me for my professional opinion about your merits after reviewing your application. I told her you were a top-notch mechanic with a lot of moxie."

He drawled while stretching his back against the reinforced steel, the look of surprise on the young Atlantean's face once more almost funny. Clearly she hadn't known she'd managed to get quite that far in the consideration process.

"I guess they didn't need mechanics with moxie up there on this one, huh."

She mused, slowly rocking back and forth on her heels, something in her voice and her smile and her body language strained and upset despite the bright and cheery attitude she tried to affect.

"No, just mercs with machine guns."

He replied, a hint of resignation in his own voice as he nods to the younger shipboard engineer, several soft, grumbling booms resounding through the Bellerophon's thick hull as the ice floes and bergs of Arendelle Fjord bumped and jostled the ship. There was a brief silence between the two, broken only by the bumping and grinding of the ice against the hull and the loud and hypnotic noise of the submarine's crystal reactor.

Let's get to work!
Crunch ain't gonna do itself!
also i have two hours in which i'm not doing anything else.

Designing beast races today, and how to balance them. The ones we'll be starting with are Medium-sized, much like humans.

The animals designed today are Wolves/Large Dogs (hyenas?), Big Cats, and Apes.

Big Cats:

Prowl: +2 on all dice rolls involving Stealth.

Natural Weapons: +2 on all dice rolls involving Brawl.

Pounce: Attacks made in a round where the Big Cat was hidden are made at a +3 bonus.

Attribute Bonuses: +2 to Robustness, +2 to Agility, -2 to Sensibility, -2 to Intelligence.
Reasoning: Big cats are prone to following their own desires over what makes sense and not exactly being book smart. However, they are stronger and faster than humans.

Beast Traits: A beast cannot communicate with non-beasts without at least one rank in Linguistics, or a Beast Collar. A beast moves faster than a human, with a +10 meter bonus to movement. Beasts cannot use human equipment unless it has specifically been sized for them. +2 to Travel.

Big Dogs:

Natural Weapons: +2 to all rolls involving Brawl.

The Hunt: Big dogs get +3 to tracking attempts with Travel.

Pack Animal: +1 to Melee and Brawl rolls for all allies while this character is engaged in combat or otherwise in a dangerous situation.

Attribute Bonuses:
+2 to Robustness, -2 to Intelligence, +2 to Charisma.
Reasoning: Dogs are not very smart. They are stronger than humans, and highly likeable.

(Con't next post)

>>36100592

After a moment, the Chief's mustache twitched and a peculiar light entered his eyes, as if he'd just thought of something. Pushing himself away from the bulkhead with a soft groan, the older man turned back and began walking toward the watertight door and bathed his head, indicating that the younger woman should follow him.

"Maybe I can make it up to to you. I bet they're planning on leaving the outer cargo bay doors open until the Away Team returns, even in this blizzard. Let's break out the cold weather gear."

"What're you thinking Chief?"

The white-haired mechanic asked quizzically, tilting her head as she trotted along behind him.

"That I'm willing to bet you've never seen the white stuff in person before, and that the hold's going to be full up with it by the time we get there."

The Chief Engineer looked back over his shoulder, grinning widely to Mahrikatohka.

"Do you want to build a snowman?"
>>
Apes:

Ingenius: Apes can use human equipment without it being resized for them, including weapons and armor. However, all rolls made with complicated machinery are at -2.

Powerful Build: +2 to Acrobatics and Athletics.

Attribute bonuses:
+2 to Robustness, -2 to Sensibility, +2 Agility.
Reasoning: Apes are strong and nimble, but not particularly smart or likeable. Notably in Disney movies they show a provision for poor judgement.
Thoughts?

Beast Traits: A beast cannot communicate with non-beasts without at least one rank in Linguistics, or a Beast Collar. A beast moves faster than a human, with a +10 meter bonus to movement. Beasts cannot use human equipment unless it has specifically been sized for them. +2 to Travel.

Armor removes Strikes from the physical hits you take, while shields give a bonus to withstand. Weapons, on the other hand, give a bonus to hit.

>>
Okay, I think that the status of the Fallen should be ultimately up to the GM.

The whole point of the game is that the first round of heroes lost. Now is the time for new heroes, new stories, and new victories.

If you spend all your time asking 'What happened to X' or 'Can we save Y' then the story becomes about those characters. I'd much rather hear about how a plucky band of adventurers managed to steal one of Grimhilde's mirrors so they could use it to save a town from being destroyed by an Olympic Titan, than hear about saving Snow White, again.

However, I like the idea of the Fallen being suggested plot threads, if you want. I'd voting for the 'most commonly hear rumors' solution.
>>
>>36100785
I thought the same but after some point you'd think the Huns would just grab her body and burn it. It makes some amount of sense that she keeps coming back in a new body, maybe with the scars of all the old bodies
>>
>>36099795
Should that be how we let our animal party members communicate with humans?
>>
>>36100597

Hey Nob, are we still missing some basic rules?

Also, Rounds.

While terrible from a realistic point of view, I think the best (and easiest) way to convey Disney combat is through a 10 seconds turn based system.

Since Disney characters never interrupt each other and everyone has time to do a lot of shit between one sword thrust and the other, it seems this would be the better system.

Each Round would then last 10 seconds, with one Turn for every character involved. Each character would get, during his Turn, 2 Actions to use for rolls and stuff, plus the ability to cover a number of meters equal to 3 + his Agility + his ROBUSTNESS!

Each Action could be spent to double this speed, potentially quadrupling it.
>>
>>36097850
Narrative doesn't mean rules light. Also, if it's based on making a good story, doesn't that mean that mechanics in it should make
>>
>>36100942
Should we then do a poll? I can get it set up.For the 3 options being

1. Don't do anything with the princesses
2. Come up with commonly heard rumors
3. Have written canon of what happens to the princesses
>>
>>36100597
>>36100677
I really do need opinions on these guys.

GENERIC TRAITS:
Not On My Watch!: +2 on (ranged/melee, choice of) when fighting those that would hurt the innocent.

Big Game Hunter: +3 on ranged rolls against large, dangerous animals. Particularly mean kittens don't count.

Atlantean Mechanics: Make Mechanics checks even with advanced mechanics at no penalty. Able to use Atlantean technology with no mishaps.

Don't Panic!: +2 to resist fear while in the presence of allies

>>
>>36100612
>And then the snowman was a Snowlem and everybody was kill. The end.
>>
>>36101009

My own preference is for options two and three, because it lets us set down things like Undead Joan of Arc Mulan and Ice Golem Anna and such, while allowing GMs to ignore those rumors if they want. I don't think we should just ignore them and leave them completely to the discretion of the game runners.
>>
>>36101009
This is one of those things I think people are going to argue over for hours. Some people REALLY want the ruffian Twisted Princesses, some people have an idea that they REALLY want to play because it's cool and they're in love with it.

I say drop it and go back to the crunch.

Or better yet, make adventure hooks/scenarios/sample characters.
>>
>>36100942
It wouldn't hurt though to have the lost heroes poss as potential quest givers or heroic npcs to guide or assist the party.

I think what will initially get people interested in self inserting their characters into the setting with the goal of finding and assisting or with evil parties killing the lost heroes.

Afterwards it's left to them to construct and build on what they want, so it doesn't hurt to have some sort of index of (who is what and where).

It could be left to the players but we can sketch skeletal beginner campaigns with multiple paths. Think multiverse.

In this skeleton campaign this character is doing this.... etc etc
>>

http://strawpoll.me/2972759
>>
>>36100992
Let's see. Basic mechanics we're missing:
How some of the skills work; crafting, music, etc.
Powers: We still need a definitive list. There was a good list of class powers last thread, but we need powers for each origin.
Tiers: What on earth do tiers actually do? We know how to advance along them (complete a goal, reach a Lesson cap) but we're not sure what the two tiers up actually do for the players.

>>36101074
Then you're new as hell. It was mentioned back in threads 7-8-9-10. We aren't going to clog up the game with HP bloat and hundreds of tables for you to roll on when anything happens, nor are we going to make combat more complicated for the autists of the world to obsess over strategy in.
>>
>>36101127
>HP bloat and hundreds of tables
>Differences between different sizes of armour
That's one slippery slope you've got there.
>>
>>36101145
Bod has trauma. You haven't seen what the wizards did to him.
>>
>>36101167
Then why are we paying attention to him? Besides, having armour rules won't instantly summon 3.X casters out of nowhere.
>>
>>36101031

>Yeah, I think me+Anon and Heretekmarine hashed that out in thread 7?

It's still me.

>>36101127

Craft is a Skill: you roll it to make stuff. You can use to buld pretty much anything, you just need different Target Numbers.

Music is a Skill: you roll it to make stuff happen. You can use it to deal Strikes or to give bonuses, conditions and other effect, you just need different Target Numbers.

There's no need to go more in depth with it: let poeple sing what they want to sing and eyeball the difficulty of producing that effect.
>>
More generic traits:
Astrologer: +2 on Occult rolls when you have some form of star chart or telescope.

Tin Ear: Immune to all effects of music, beneficial and harmful.

Trust me!: +2 on Deceive against characters that do not trust you in the slightest.

Nerdy Mc Nerderson: +4 on Academics, -2 on Athletics

Like A Coursing River: Give your allies +2 on their next Acrobatics check after you succeed on an Acrobatics check.

Trust me, I'm a Doctor: +2 on Science, Occult, and Academics if you can somehow explain how your character knows this particular subject.

Does It Have A Steering Wheel?: Ignore the time to acclimate to a new type of vehicle, and +2 to Drive checks made with land vehicles.

Why are we listening to him?: +2 on Insight checks against people who are obviously villains.

It's a Hard-Knock Life: +3 on Endure and Prevent Harm checks -- however, hilarious and detrimental things will happen to you very, very frequently.

Well, we welcome your veteran expertise.

>>36101145
We've had this discussion before, we're not having it again. Go away.
>>
>>36101198

Lety's say there are two kinds of armor: the light stuff, which gives you a small bonus to Withstand against physical attacks, and the heavy stuff, which slows you down, gives you a small bonus to Withstand against physical attacks and takes away one Strike from every physical attacks that hits you.
>>
>>36101198
He's not wrong. We are trying to keep the combat away from having "Optimal Armor and Weapons" and more about heroic swashbuckling and clever use of the area around you. Just imagine how most Disney animated movies do combat and use that as the basis for how we are trying to do it.
>>
>>36101278
Works for me. Although we seem to have a lot of stuff that removes strikes. If you stack all that stuff, I'm fairly certain even Chernabog couldn't do shit, and his attacks do 4 strikes.
>>36101302
Which is why I think that heavy armour and light armour should have differences, or you'll just wear the heavy armour because it's the one with the biggest numbers. Make light armour different and equally worthwhile, and you produce a more balanced, roleplay-focused system. After all, the bane of roleplay is optimisation, and if everything's just as good as everything else then there's nothing to optimise.
>>
>>36101254

>We've had this discussion before, we're not having it again. Go away.

Damn it Nob, we appreciate your relentless anti - wizard crusade, but two kinds of armor are not going to break the world.

A swashbuckler with a leather shirt and a knight in full plate feel different even in Disney movies, after all.
>>
>>36101330

Armor is the only thing that removes Strikes.

Unless it's in the sample Powers. Being focused on the general rules, I haven't been paying attention to the sample Powers.
>>
>>36101114
Only 6 votes guys, come on. We've have 30 posters here.

>>
>>36101278
This could be workable. The problem with the heavy armor is that there are already powers for Strongmen that prevent a hit from being applied, and with this armor an enemy would need to land three strikes to hit you once. The ability to prevent strikes should be limited to Powers, and perhaps Atlantean Power Armor which is a unique and magical item that the players are unlikely to get. If we really want to prevent light and heavy armor from being the same, have Light give a bonus to Prevent, and allow Heavy to give a slightly larger bonus to Prevent but a penalty to Athletics, Acrobatics, Legerdemain, Stealth, and Mechanics equivalent to the bonus difference between Light and Heavy armor.

This still leads to Strongmen universally running around in Plate Armor, but they'll have to remove it if they want to actually use their skills.

>>36101367
There are powers that remove strikes, and powers that heal strikes. We need to be careful here or we're going to run into a build that can seriously tank Cherrybomb.
>>
>>36101330
Agreed.

Heavy Armor helps soak more, removes more strikes, and is more consistent. Light armor also provides a bonus to attack negation, dodges and such, while having a little bit of soak.

It would provide the interesting difference that more skilled warriors might get more use out of Light armor, but rather than being a matter of optimization it becomes a matter of what's better for the character instead.

>>36101473
I'd agree on calming the crunch discussion if not for the whole red queen's race thing -- gotta keep running just to stay in the same place.

Crunch in general: Classes are pretty much done at Zero-tier. We've got the basic mechanics of the setting written down. We need to compile a list of 30 traits still, which is hard because writing 30 unique and interesting traits is hard. We need a serious fluff-to-crunch discussion on each setting involving character origins. We need to finish creating the Beast and Fae character rules.
>>
We seem to have *a lot* of things that help soak in strikes, guys.

I was thinking that it could work better if you were unable to stack them easily. For example, a Strongman couldn't use any of his *restore strikes" powers if he's wearing armor

Probably too out there, but I think it'd help avoid people getting too many strikes
>>
>>36101442

Wait, Shishigami was the Deer God from Princess Mononoke right?

>>
>>36101551
>>36101576
Pretty much. It's not evil, but it wants everyone to stay the hell out of Japan, since it's mostly Shan Yu, Ursula and the pirates pushing in.
>>
>>36101430

Then Chernobog should deal 8 Strikes.

It's easy, laddie: the villains are enormously more powerful than their minions, and mooks never stops the heroes in Dinsey movies, unless there is an army of them.

But if you want Powers to decrease Stikes, then Light Armor should give a +1 to Withstand and Heavy Armor should give +2 to Withstand and - 10 to Speed. A Penalty to Acrobatics and our world would be already less magical and more realism obsessed. then D&D 5E. Wrap your head around that.

>>
>>36101651
NO MAGIC

Really, we're just applying pixie magic to allow them to have stats that are average humans, assuming that Pixie Dust works like it does in Peter Pan and allows Tink to not instantly get squished. Pixies outside of Neverland are no longer able to produce enough pixie dust to allow anyone other than themselves to fly.

Fairies in terms of characters is a catch all for non-human, not beast characters. Trolls, pixies, mermaids, beast-men, goblins ect. To those ends, I think that we should take a look at the princesses and heroes still alive (sort of, in a few cases) and come up with either canon dates for them or several rumored fates while clearly stating that GMs are completely within their rights to change or disregard them when running their own games.

How do we best time line the setting? From the looks of things we're attempting to throw many periodical settings into one world.

Do we accept that across the board or do we attempt to seclude the different periods in their respective locations?

Because pirate ships and cannons would seize more control of water than Greek tririmes, as jazz age America would travel better than medieval Europe

Either the thing in the battered Imperial armor that keeps attacking the Hun Dynasty's leaders and enforcers really is the undead, unkillable Mulan as the Chinese believe, or, as the Hun Dynasty keeps rabidly insisting, it is simply an endless stream of girls with a "vague" resemblance to her, taking up the name and armor in an attempt to play heroine.

The players must learn the truth.

>>36102291
No that's good, perhaps though that magical influence can impact player characters based on which setting they are in.

In Greece they can be mythic heros, in Hunnic China mere nomadic warriors of grit.

Many younger Atlanteans of the current generations have not heard the true story about what happened between Rourke, the Atlantean King, the Princess and the Crystal. Of the members of the original Expedition that were there and subsequently formed the core of Rourke's government, none deny that Princess Kidagakash merged with the Heart of Atlantis, but what became of her and of it is still something discussed and debated in whispers and letters between the parties involved. Some Atlanteans claim that they are visited in their dreams by a woman made from a blue light that is boh dazzling and soothing, dressed in traditional Atlantean garb, who reassures them and tells them to be not afraid of the times to come. There are some scientists that say that the full range of the Heart's power is unknown and unknowable, and that the crystals every Atlantean wears around their necks are a direct conduit to that power. Whether Kidagakash' intelligence and soul are there in the Heart, or whether the Heart is Kidagakash herself, is for now a mystery.

It gives us varying levels of difficulty. Take HK campaign.

Easy mode - Taran, Merida and Arthur are all alive and active, Arthur has Excalibur, Taran has Dyrnwyn, and Mor'du will bow to King Arthur.

Hey guys, Writefag from the First Thread here, Popping in because Heretekmarine asked me a question last thread, and it died before I woke up(literally got up, walked to computer and checked this):

>How should Elsa be treated in this universe? An un-redeemable force of nature? Potentially powerful, albeit depressed person? Can't wait to hear your thoughts.

Glancing over last thread, I see there was a great deal of discussion, and another writefag stepped in to give us his idea of an Atlantean-Arendelle mission. Without stepping on any toes, here's my thoughts on the matter:

The instructions Elsa's parents gave her are a recipe for eventual disaster, stifling one's own emotions just continuously increases your stress, making you more emotional, in a feedback cycle.

Elsa's attempt to free herself from her bonds leads to winter descending on her people, which tragically reinforces the ideas presented. Further, her sister's "death" was a result of her losing control as well.

This would, most likely, result in endless cycle of destruction. Elsa would go for a time, fairly reasonable, if outwardly stiff and unemotional, until her grief over her actions overwhelmed her control, and she detonated into a Nation-Spanning Super Storm for a couple days.

As such, it wouldn't actually be impossible for people to live in her lands, but in all likelihood, they would abandon more 'standard' villages and towns (the city would become fairly pointless, as its function as a port is rendered inoperable) to try more esoteric approaches: I'm seeking sod houses, sunken into the earth, with tunnels. THe complexes centered around hotsprings, steam vents, and other sources of warmth.

The fear of her people would only reinforce her pain and beliefs, And her desire for control would lead to her Ice-Golem minions patrolling the land, trying to keep things "orderly".

(cont)
>>
>>36103047

(Fun fact, my last captcha had Ice in it.)

As such, I think the note to play best on with any interactions in her land wouldn't be 'irredeemable', but "unpredictable".

The wrong word said in a negotiation, discussion, or peasant's plea; The wrong style of hair, twist of the lips, or sound of a laugh that reminds her of Anna, or Hans; Even just asking a little too much on a bad day; ANY of these could set her off into a great storm.

It doesn't help that she sees herself as evil for what she's done, and so, in the back of her mind, the whispers of Chernabog mutter on. Ironically, it's her very self-control that makes his attempts ineffective: she's so trained at ignoring her own desires and impulses, his aren't that difficult to tune out. But it is another source of stress. And when she breaks down, he comes through louder, clearer. In time, he can corrupt her. And the Lord of Bald Mountain has time to spare.

The Shinto Spirits are going to stay on the map as per the poll I ran yesterday. However, for those who are very much opposed to the idea of Ghibli canon being in your campaign, the area is easily transferable to Ancestor Spirits or Spirit Realm.
>Purist Map
To avoid confusion, we're gonna stick with one official map, with the Shinto Spirits and El Dorado still in it. However, for Disney purists El Dorado can be divided among Yzma, Slim and Facilier, but I won't be doing that on the official maps, unless a polled consensus elects to remove El Dorado.

Let's see about the Prince end of things too.

>Snow White's Prince
Prisoner of Grimhilde, most likely. Earlier draft of Snow White had the prince locked in her dungeon, but it was scrapped for the sake of time.

>Prince Charming
Couldn't find a fit for the slipper, fell into a depression and let his kingdom slowly decay. Frollo intervened and claimed it for purification. The prince is still around, but depressed and lethargic.

>Prince Philip
Locked in Maleficent's dungeons. Hope is about the one thing he has left, but at this point he's almost as forgotten as Aurora.

>Prince Eric
His suicide cruise didn't end up so well, Ursula smashed his boat and the prince drowned in the maelstrom.

>Prince Adam
Slain by Gaston, his beastly head is one of the prize mountings at the huntsmen's trophy hall.

>Aladdin
Unable to escape from his arctic banishment, it's likely that a man dressed for the tropics could have died. Whether he landed in Chernabog's bleak domain or in Elsa's winter-locked grip, his chance of being found is slim at best.

>John Smith
Pocahontas was unable to prevent his execution in time. His death became an Alamo-like inspiration for the Virginia Militia.

>Captain Shang
Perished attempting to defend the Emperor from the Huns.

>Naveen
Unable to stop the murder of Big Daddy LaBouff, his usefulness to the Shadow Man had ceased. Still stuck in frog form, his treacherous butler Lawrence now keeps Naveen as a plaything, payback for all the years of playing the stooge.

>Flynn Rider
Rapunzel was able to heal Flynn, but he was unable to stop Gothel's plot in return. It was several days before he was able to escape the tower, at which point Rapunzel was long gone. He roams Europe, stealing what he needs to survive and tracking Gothel to the best of his abilities in hopes of rescuing Rapunzel.

Knightfag here. I'm home, and now I'm going to try to write up some brief backgrounds for the Knights of the Round Table, but first I'd like to weigh in on the whole armor debate.

Light weapons, armor and shields should grant bonuses to melee and prevent harm when using Agility, and their heavy counterparts do the same for Robustness. I believe they should be providing the same bonuses (except for 2 handed weapons, which grant a higher bonus but can't be used with shields); heavy armor, however, completely stops hits from a sufficiently weak source. What light armor gets in return, I am not sure of, but it should be something good enough that a character with equal agility and robustness would pause to decide which sort of armor they would wear.
>>
>>36103367
Thank you!

I'm entirely fine with changes, or differing takes on it. These were just my preliminary thoughts on the matter, how I would run it, in essence.

I like to give my players the chance to improve things, with the razor-thin balancing act over making them worse.

Other takes/ideas:
-Her grief is all-consuming after the death of her sister. She can't pull herself together, which leads to more death, for which she feels responsible, leading to MORE Grief, leaving her as the eye of an never-ending super storm. IF the players could get to the city and castle, they'd find the storm has abated, but there they'll find her, inconsolably wandering the streets, looking at the lives she's ruined.
Variants off of THAT idea:
She's made ice golem replacements for the townspeople she's killed, and is living in an extended puppet show wrought by her own madness. The storm continues elsewhere in the kingdom, because her emotions are still a roiling mess, but in the town, a thin veneer lies over teh horror.

Another take: MOST of the people have died, but the Aurora Borealis swooped in, and animalized some of them before the great storm killed them all.

And so on and so on.

What if the Shadowlands were covered in unnatural, magical darkness so that as soon as you walked through its borders, you needed a lantern or a torch to see? Everything reacts as if the sun's on it - plants still grow, it's still warm, etc. - but nobody can see, and the Friends can patrol the shadows at will. Cities and towns within the dark tend to have light sources everywhere, commonly burning torches.
>>

A huge finale for the series would be the PCs taking on Chernabog.

There's only one being that can face him. A force of destruction greater than he.

The Firebird.

Of course, just getting near the Firebird is suicide. Getting it to help you, or controlling it is a pipe dream. Slim's yodels fail, any type of magic falters, and no army, no matter how advanced, numerous, or zealous, has been able to stand against it.

The secret may lie in Arendalle. Or within the Spirit Lands. Or parts of the riddle can be found in the lands of the Fae, the Vatican, Agrabah, and the deepest jungles.

Only the greatest of Heroes, those who can laugh in the faces of Kings, can even think about pursuing this. Because anyone who can control the Firebird, can rule the world.

But...if the Firebird is brought to Bald Mountain? There may be a new dawn.

Of course, that's a capstone adventure.

Okay, a thorough review of your beast stats.

1: The sizes don't work. Prevent harm is not only dodging, but also shrugging off attacks via your bulk. I'd recommend giving Tiny and smaller creatures a boost to Agility and an agility cap increase (by two or three points, maybe) to allow them to dodge better, and maybe have physical strikes count as double against Tiny and smaller creatures. Possibly drop Robustness? IDK.

Similarly, Large and Massive creatures need +2 and +4 bonuses to ROBUSTNESS, and Massive creatures get another strike. The penalties they get from this are by and large social -- nobody is going to trust a Carnosaur when it promises not to eat you -- as well as not being able to use Mechanics, Drive, a lot of human skills, etc that smaller animals would be able to do.

Melee offensive rolls shouldn't drop, but Large and larger creatures shouldn't gain anything either -- even if they hit harder, it's harder for them to connect.

All creatures except maybe the smallest need some sort of Natural Weapon that provides a bonus to Brawl or possibly Melee Attack depending on the creature to make up for the fact that they can't carry weapons. Apes and monkeys are obviously excluded from this rule due to their opposable thumbs.

Onto the actual species!

Big Cats:
Change the stealth bonus to a generic +2 against visual detection, or increase the bonus to +3 in areas of high plant growth.

Pinned Ya: Make this cost a will point, otherwise good. (Cont)

Cats should get a +2 bonus to Charisma and Agility, I agree. However, offer them the ability to trade up Charisma to be a truly FIERCE hunter, for +2 robustness.

Bears:
Bear hug: Good, flavorful. 10/10.
Hibernation: Unnecessary, you remove 1 strike an hour or upon fulfilling an Ideal.
Thick Hide: Might as well just give them +2 Robustness. They are bears, after all.
Bear Necessities: Change this to +3 Travel and +2 Endure, and we're good.

Primates:
Change Wanna Be Like You to just a free rank in Linguistics. This allows Apes to have a rank in Speak With Humans.

Monkeyin' Around: Change to a bonus to Deceive. (We already have a skill to keep your focus, it's called Endure. Ignoring social pressure is Sensibility+Endure, usually.)

Attribute bonuses: Sure, give +2 Agility and Charisma to Monkeys as well as -2 Robustness, and give apes +2 Robustness and Agility, and -2 Sensibility.

Also: Give all primates the ability to use human equipment with a minimum of fuss to make up for their lack of natural weapons.

Canines:
Loyalty: Please, please, please don't give attribute bonuses unless they're racial. Make them relevant skills instead.

Puppy Dog eyes: Small dogs only. +4 on Convince/Deceive.
Wild: Make this +2 Endure.
Pack-member: Make this an ally buff instead of +2 to (melee or ranged) while fighting alongside the dog.
Domesticated: +2 to Convince and one rank in Linguistics for Speak With Humans.

Elsa is the least 'villainous' of the villains, driven by grief and self-hatred. There should be something with her, potentially involving reviving Anna that lets the PCs restore Arrendalle.
>>
>>36104196
I'm starting to wonder about how resurrection will work in this campaign. There's a lot of soul-collecting going on between Hades, Davy Jones and Dr. Facilier, and True Love isn't that common at preventing death or raising the dead, so it'd have to be pretty difficult. A bargain with one of those three villains seems like a good method, but they all drive pretty hard deals.

Maybe something concerning the three good other worlds, Neverland, Wonderland and the Hundred Acre Wood?

Attribute bonuses for dogs:
I'd recommend just giving dogs a flat +2 Robustness and either +2 Agility or +2 Charisma, subtracting -2 from Intelligence because honestly most dogs are really stupid.

Crocs:
Give them the ability to be size: Large for river crocs?
Natural Armor/Rivergoer: Rivergoer already has a built-in penalty in that most encounters will take place on land. No need to have it be replaceable with a flat upgrade.
Natural armor should give +2 or possibly +3 while using Robustness to bolster Prevent Harm.
Tick-Tock: Made me laugh. No need to have a penalty at all for this one, it's rare enough to use it as-is.
Crocodile Tears: +2 to Deceive. Minor word change, good as is.
Death Roll: good flavor, but we don't have HP. Perhaps deals double strikes against Pinned or helpless opponents?
Attribute bonuses: +2 Robustness and Sensible(?) -2 Agility
Overall, pretty good. I'd say 8/10 design on these. It allows Dogs to make good anything-but-sages (and even that can be BSed if you're willing to take the -2), Crocs make good... everything-but-nimble, Apes are good at just about everything, and Cats are good at everything but being Sensible.

It seems like we have quite departed from the human inhabitable Arndelle and Chernobog actually being active, although its nicely written. I personally prefer the vast artic Arndelle, with people living at the edges. It gives a sort of dessert area, a place no one dares enter or risk the horrifying weather and constructs.

Adding people takes away the pure isolation and desperation that covers the land and surrounds Elsa, and takes this sort of physical representation of what Elsa is feeling and turns it into another petty kingdom ruled by a magic user, which i think we have plenty of.

Although your ideas are nice, they just feel like they don't stand out enough amongst the villains we already have. We have the twitchy and hair pin grenade personalities of the fair kin. We have the sorcerous ruler with unlimited power in Jafar and Facillier. The cycle idea could be useable, as Elsa calms down the spirals into desperation allowing for players to actually get around easier, but it just doesn't give Arendelle this sort of sheerness to it: You look at th frozen Castle, see bodies flash frozen and buildings burried by snow, and you should just feel that this place is just hopeless and desolate. That life and love and everything has been smothered and choked out by this unrelenting snow. And this Desolation makes the characters who are alive stand out more. The Ice Anna looking for memories of who and what she was in the ruins of the castle, a lone olaf wandering through the snow drifts looking for a way to stop this, A grizzled Kristof, still guilty about not telling Anna how he felt and not saving her, The never ending greed of hans who still longs to take Arendelle even though it is little more than a wasteland.

But thats just my opinion
>>
>>36104378
Hans is in the Mirror Kingdom, being more of a sycophant than he's ever been in his life. Kristoff is probably dead, I'm not sure.

Kristoff wasn't discussed, probably acts as a mountaineer guide to the refugees of Arandelle in the face of catastrophic winter everywhere.

I think if Anna as able to be brought back then it has to be something so difficult that the players would need Elsa's help or for Elsa to do it personally, thus something that she'd have to be redeemed first to have happen.

Mostly because I think having Elsa freeze her way through Hades makes for a fantastic image.

Concerning Hunnic China, I am going to try to expand some of the whole "Spiritual Assistance" thing.

The Twelve Houses that will be pulling strings to get their descendants into power will be divided into two sides, make it easier for the GM and players. At first I was going to simply go with Good and Evil, but I think it's better to keep it a little grayer....But I don't know how to do it.

The plan is to make it a six-six split, and have two houses kind counterpoint each other. They don't support the other side, but they SPECIALLY dislike that one house. Something like...

Dragon - Tiger

Rat - Rabbit

Ox - Goat/Lamb

Snake - Dog

Horse - Rooster

Basically, each descendant has his or her own ideas on how to properly rule the empire if Shan Yu is defeated, and has influence from the ancestors and the old family rules, etc.

If you decide to help the heir to the Dragon House, you get the help of the spirits that belong or were loyal to that house in the past, but nothing from the others. Except the Tiger house, which will activelly try to fuck you up.

In that case, you might find easier cooperation from the Rat, Ox, Snake and Horse houses than the others and find it a little harder to deal with Rabbit, Goat, Dog and Rooster. Not because they are offended but because the two sides simply don't share ideals.

Throughout all this, Mulan is probably trying to keep neutral between all twelve, choosing instead to focus on trying to end Shan Yu's reign and paying mind only to her own ancestors, but chances are she agrees to one philosophy more than others

I also support the idea of Anna being gone forever. It makes it much more of a wound on Elsas sanity. Besides, if reviving Anna was so easy, wouldn't she have done it by now or been taken advantage of by Chenrobog, Hades or Facillier?

Having meta-knowledge of the fact that Kristoffer and Anna love each other would make it too easy. There should be some complication preventing Kristoffer from breaking the curse himself.

They're imprisoned somewhere in Tartarus, where the Titans used to be holed up.
As for Zeus, I doubt he ever found out that Hades was behind his baby's kidnapping, since Pain and Panic didn't screw up in this alternate universe. He never saw Hades' coup coming.

Yeah, but people are suggesting that Kristoff might also be able to so. I just don't like the idea of Anna just coming back. It makes Elsa seem like a big idiot.

It's why I also like Ice Anna as a way to have our ice cream cake and eat it too. She may be a shadow of Anna's personality and try to act the part, but she is emphatically NOT Anna at the same time. Plus, she's got a lot of use as an exposition/backstory delivery NPC, dark comic relief and possibly minor heroine potential.
>>
>>36104677
She kind of is.
To be honest, I'm not sure how feeling love for her sister worked only for that precise moment at the end of the movie and not any other time.

A perfectly valid choice as well, and illustrated nicely.

As I mentioned last thread, I'm still very much playing catch-up: I did some well-regarded writefagging in the very first thread, and didn't see this again until last night. My write-up is solely how I would run it.

Personally, I would hold that the ideas of desolation, loneliness, and isolation can still be explored in my depiction: As stated, this is a land where, at any minute, the storm can come crashing back in.

The few people still alive in it can't travel too far beyond their safeholds, or they risk being trapped and lost in the sudden storms. I don't see, by any means, a bustling livelihood in the area, no, I see islands of humanity, trapped in an endless sea of snow, desperately clinging to what little they have. Sometimes you find these complexes filled only with the dead. Signs that wolves overcame their defenses, or inhabitants went mad and turned on the others.

Perhaps the best analogy is a nuclear bomb: The death of Anna set off Elsa in a huge blast, killing everyone in close proximity. And blanketing the surrounding lands with snow and ice.

The survivors beyond the town are now struggling to survive the fallout, made worse by the fact that the bomb KEEPS GOING OFF.

That's the idea for Elsa I see: It's not like saying the wrong thing ANGERS her, I'm saying it sets her off.

So anyone with sense stopped trying. No one talks to her, because it just makes things worse.
I wouldn't even keep Kristoff alive. I'd think he would have been the first to TRY to talk Elsa down, and fail. Maybe he's an Ice puppet like Anna now.

But again, these are all just personal preferences.

Not everyone in this setting knows everything about this setting. Elsa has been in her depression since Anne's death. She most likely hasn't had any contact with anything not frozen. She probably doesn't know about the fact that the Underworld is a place and she can just waltz in there, fuck up Hades and take Anne back. She also has an incredible amount of guilt and fear about her own powers and abilities and if she does know about the Underworld she might not try just because she thinks she would just fuck it up. Not even worth trying.

Depression is a terrible thing and of anything she's spending her time crying about how terrible of a queen she is and feeling sorry for herself.

>>
>>36104533
Actually, that's debate-able from a mythological standpoint.

Hades, by normal reckoning, is Zeus's Older Brother. (Zeus got the Gods to reaccept their birth order as "who crawled out of Cronos first, and will you look at that, I did, because I cut us out!" rather than "Which one mom gave birth to first")

And the most famous declaration of Zeus's power is from the Illiad, where Zeus tells Hera that if Zeus played tug-of-war against ALL OF OLYMPUS, Zeus would win.

But Hades doesn't live on Olympus.

Further, from basic statistics, we know that the dead outnumber the living, so Hades' Kingdom is larger.

When Hades kidnapped another God to be his wife, Zeus negotiated him down to "you only get her half the year." He didn't command Hades let her go.

Hades is quite possibly Zeus-tier, but simply uninterested in showing off like Zeus does.

Might not be a good thing to have house rivalries, China's in a pretty bad state, and they don't have many options for friends.
>>
>>36104515
Hey, since the Huns conquered china and killed the Emperor , doesn't that mean that they have the mandate of heaven? What kind of powers would that entail for china?
>>
>>36104901
I see. So, my idea for the Black Knight is that he, like his counterpart in Morte de Arthur, stands at a key point on a road, letting none pass because he was tricked into relieving the previous guardian. He is surrounded by the remains of Cauldronborn and any fresh bodies he's had to deal with recently, but the mists are thin here. All the Cauldronborn revive only under the midday sun, when he must engage in fierce battle. Otherwise, he sleeps soundly and savors his meals. How does that sound?
>>
>>36105175
They "Officially" rule, but the Ancestors don't like that, so they awakened all the Guardian Spirits. That, combined with the rumors of an immortal woman soldier killing Huns has made their rule very... complicated.
>>
>>36105206
Well, they'll probably all revive at the same amount of time after he killed them, presuming he killed them in the same way.
Having them all revive at midday might be a bit too much.
>>
>>36105175
Actually, the entire ancestral civil war is because the Mandate didn't pass. The Huns remain usurpers.

This actually makes China a risky place to travel as aside from the Huns, the rebels, the ghosts, and the bandits a land without a king is thrown into chaos. The most obvious example is sudden and dramatic weather shifts, but there are more subtle changes to the land as well.

The party could ford a river running across the road only to find a bridge over its old bed a hundred feet further on, the silt on the bottom still wet from the recent change.
>>
>>36105158

I know, but it just occured to me. They aren't going to interfere with anybody that is also trying to take down Shan Yu and they aren't going to get in the way of that happening, it's just that they are all thinking on the after.

It's one of those "OF COURSE the people of China will win in the end, who do you think we are? Japan?!" things. They have kinda lost touch with the hard parts of living, you see.

Which is also why Mulan's ancestors never shut up and let her figure things out; they think that OF COURSE they are always being helpful, look at all the experience they have!

>>36105175
What is the mandate of heaven?
>>
>>36105256
Not if he killed them all at midday. It'd only take once for it to happen.
>>
>>36105292
Well yeah, but that would require all the travellers he kills to arrive at midday.

It'd also probably end up overwhelming him.
>>
>>36105040
I'd be happy to. Essentially, the assassination of the Emperor was a success and Mulan was killed (the first time) in the process. The invasion was a complete success and the Huns moved in, establishing their own dynasty and in the process making illegal many traditional Chinese ways of life, including ancestor worship. Of course, and Reverend Ancestors would be having none of this, and a Spiritual Rebellion was sparked, pitting the Huns against China's living and dead. In the midst of this turmoil, rumor began spreading that Mulan, the woman who dared to stand up to Shan Yu walked the land again: hassling and harassing Hun caravans, killing Hun generals and rousing wights and spirits from their slumber. So the Huns caught Mulan and killed her again. And again. And again. But she just keeps coming back, more battered and undead but ferocious and determined each time, spurred on by the constant, maddening urging of her ancestors.
>>
>>36105258
I saw bandits and now I want a group to meet a group of 3 bandits who're made up of a small but angry man, a skinny weak man, and a tall and large man who all act like buffoons who occationally wonder "Whatever happened to our friend Ping? Did he survive that battle with the Huns?"
>>
>>36105256
Hrm....well, if they take an entire day and night to revive, that still allows him to live a fairly secure, scheduled life.
>>
>>36105175
>>36105258
>>36105268
Shan Yu has to be one of the more active villains. With constant rebellion from the people, the spirits and every other player, he's leading his Huns on the warpath constantly.

I doubt he cares much about the Mandate of Heaven, since in his mind, he's earned his lordship, no matter how Heaven disputes it.

The houses are all at risk from the roaming Hun warbands, so they're putting their eggs in one basket with keeping Mulan alive. They'll all try to influence Mulan into saving their own lands first, making her descent to spiritual madness even worse.
>>
>>36105158
Despite this, Ancestor Spirits are really, really dumb and obsessed with honour.
>>
>>36105268
The mandate of Heaven is basically the real why china is still around. It says that if you invade or revolt and succeed , then you obviously have the right to rule and the old guy doesn't because if he lost to the new guys, he obviously doesn't have the mandate anymore. Its how china absorbed the mongols and other invaders
>>
>>36105342

No, I know what the basic plans we have for China are, I'm just trying to flesh it out a little more with how exactly the spirits are reacting, and how they want their descendants to attain honor and power for the family, etc. Cue me asking what people thought of that idea.

>>36105268
Basically what I mean is....

The ancestors think that OF COURSE they will eventually win, so they are also bickering and planning to get something going for the AFTER victory. Someone will have to lead the empire, of course.

These ghosts just don't have a good grasp on reality anymore I feel
>>
>>36105390
Unrelated question. Why don't the honored dead of china get snatched up by Hades like everyone else?

Who's guarding the ancestors?
>>
>>36105382

Wait, really?

Huh. Well, shit, I didn't know that.

Well, we can always say that nobody before tried to fuck up the ancestor and spirit worship and this is why this time it isn't sticking, because the Land doesn't accept Shan Yu as a good ruler

I think that a better moment of when the story change would be when the Huns were charging Shang and his trainees. Mulan doesn't have the sudden insight to aim a cannon at the mountain and bury the Huns in a avalanche and the soldiers get overrun. China falls, and now we're here. That way it makes more sense how Shan Yu manged to gain control, with the backing of the only army in the land. If it's post-assassination then it's just Shan Yu and like 10 Huns at most.
>>
>>36105416
Could be Mushu. He'd feel responsible for Mulan's downfall, and China's by extension, because he was in it for himself. Safeguarding the spirits from Hades' clutches is about the only thing he has left to atone for his failure.
>>
>>36105416

Well you see their protection is based on the ancient chinese belief of shut your fucking mouth.

Okay, seriously though, I have no explanation for that. Maybe the old stone guardians exerce some protection?
>>
>>36105488
Maybe some ancient Chinese magic stuff about "however a family has honor their ancestors belong to the family" Though it doesn't really matter cause its convenient to the plot and its Disney.
>>
>>36105584
"However long a family has honor..."

Is what I meant to say
>>
>>36105488
>>36105416

Well, the Ancestor Spirit of China are revered and prayed to. Maybe they count as minor Gods, removing them from Hades' control.

But once their families die out, no one worships them, so they go back to being ghosts.

Alternatively, it's Guan Yu, Jade Emperor of Heaven, because fuck you, Guan Yu says so!
>>
Coincidentally, I was working on Hades.

King: Hades - God of the Dead and Freer of the Titans. Hades is rarely seen by his subjects; he spends most of his time in his new lair on Mount Olympus, that he has redecorated to be more to his tastes. The Underworld is still the prison of the dead, and he is still their ruler; now they are simply left to their own devices. Many consider this an improvement over constantly risking the burning fury of their Lord. But even considering this occasional outbursts, the God of the Dead has always been a smooth operator, second only to Facilier in the art of getting the best out of any deal. Not that he needs to do that often nowadays, as Hades is a content god, not terribly interested in expanding his territory: his real prize has always been his brother’s throne, and he’s got that now. Well, if he could manage to get that tentacle face to come back to Tartarus, where he OUGHT to be…
Land: Monsters’ Playground- Hades employs a relatively small number of departed souls as look-outs and sentinels, they are to inform him of any wannabe hero getting too big for his britches. Most souls are more than willing to leave the torments of the River Styx for some time in the land of the living, and the fact that the Lord of the Dead compensates them with extra time on the surface makes them even more enthusiastic and vigilant. There aren’t as many heroes, nowadays, so the souls resort to denouncing uppity villagers; Hades isn’t as generous with these sort of reports, and the departed risks incineration if he bothers the god with info that’s not worth his time.

(cont.)
>>
>>36105258
Ironically, in such a situation it would be nomads- the Huns- who would be most capable of dealing with the chaotic shifts in the landscape, since they can always pack up and move. While the sedentary native Chinese would just starve every time a flood wiped out their crops. So the chaos of the Mandate not passing would benefit the usurpers the most.
>>
>>36105635
What’s worse, numberless mythological creatures prowl Hades’ territory, knowing full well that their master considers them far more precious to him than the useless mortals that will end up as his more direct subjects anyway. Galloping centaurs haunt the roads from Epyrus to Sparta, drunk on wine and blood; sea serpents longer than pirate ships grow fat on the flesh and bones of terrified fishermen; and the constant screeching of harpies fills moonless nights. The few times that some brave villagers managed to drive out one of their tormentors, they were visited by Hades’ own monstrous three-headed hound, there to punish them for bothering one of Hades’ loyal servitors. Every day, more villagers resort to sacrificing some of their own to these monsters to avoid both theirs and their master’s wrath.
Even Cerberus’ trail of destruction pales in comparison to the primordial horror caused by the Titans. These lumbering quasi-gods, kilometers tall and full of fury, have already made several large swathes of land completely inhabitable, and they seem to simply go as they please, governed by nothing more than their fancy for destruction. When their roaring cries are heard in a village, everyone rounds up their transportable goods and leaves their homes behind, yet another sacrifice to the God of the Dead and his dreaded servants.
>>
We need this thread Archived and need a new thread going
>>
>>36105700
Rule: Should a group of honest-to-good heroes come into his territory, they will more than likely be found out. Luckily, the constant influx of useless reports coming from his ghostly spies has made him unimpressed with their reports, so he’s unlikely to react quickly… unless he has heard of some other King being taken down. If that’s the case, or if one of his more powerful monsters is slain, he will send more and more monsters against them: after a couple of weeks in his territory, the heroes might have to fight almost constantly for their lives. He will also try to steer one of the Titans towards them, which is something to be avoided at all costs, as a direct confrontation with a Titan will likely end in tragedy.
The more monsters fail to put an end to the heroes’ menace, the more likely it is that Hades will try his plan B: negotiations. Since the souls of all the dead report to him, he will probably know a fair bit about the characters, and is in such a position of power that he can get them some really nifty stuff. If he feels properly menaced, he might even keep his word. A loved one, back from the dead? Secrets regarding some other villains’ weaknesses? Just plain, old-fashioned gold? Everything is on the table as long as the new Lord of Olympus stays on his throne.

Good, though I think Hades is a better manipulator than Facilier even. Hades should still be after expanding his influence, if not his territory, by dealing with other villains and heroes to put their lands in chaos. The more dead souls worldwide, the more power he gets. He'd also be pretty keen on taking out Davy Jones, since he's been breaking up the soul monopoly, and he'd be wary of Facilier's Friends taking a cut of the souls too.
