You are Reinhold, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

The only issue at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to have some issues.

You kind of got Marianne pissed at you (what else is new), but it looks like your plans for the day are going off smoothly. Emilio and Karel will be heading over Sir Gregory's house this evening, and you plan on accompanying them.

The only thing that you're trying to work out at the moment is how you're going to contact Citrine to tell her about the date of the lake trip...

>Congratulations, Reinhold is now a fearsome DIRE WOLF!
>Much larger than their the other types of wolf, the Dire Wolf's size also means that they are also that much more dangerous.
>The Princess considers you to be her dear friend!
>But while dire wolves are massive, they still don't -quite- stand on the same level as people.

>"Informed who about what now?" Arnaud asks as he walks through the door carrying a teaset in one hand.
>"Reinhold's having problems with telling people things that they should know, that's all," Marianne replies.
>"I see," he nods. "Perhaps I could help with that?"

"...actually," you say, turning to the old butler, "I was wondering if there was some way that I could get word to my sister that we'll be leaving on that lake trip tomorrow morning."
"Oh, she's going as well?" Arnaud asks as he pours the two of you your first cups of tea.
"Reinhold decided to invite everyone that he knows, so yes," Marianne sighs.
"Well they do say 'the more the merrier,' you know!" he laughs.

Marianne seems less than amused though.

"That's what I was thinking," you say with a faint laugh. "But yeah, I just found out that the trip is -tomorrow- and I have plans for later today so I can't really head out into town to tell her myself."
"I see," Arnaud nods. "You're always free to send letters to anyone who you would want through our messenger birds, but what you just said is a rather urgent matter so I don't think you'd want to risk her reading the letter too late..."
"Yeah, that would be pretty bad," you reply.
"So a courier it is," Arnaud says. "Your sister's the one who married that artist boy, right? Lanzmann?"
"That's right," Marianne says. "Marius Lanzmann."

I don't think it is thing at all, but rather a writing technique. I think it meant to be a energyetic and urgent way to describe what Reinhold percieves. Rather then writing "You see something falling down from above" which is less exciting, doing it as <above> makes it more spontenous and sudden, like real reflexes.

Not yet she isn't.
>>
>>36090371
We don't have enough information to be sure, but it being related to our sword seems reasonably likely.

Reinhold has always had good reflexes and Arnaud's likely been keeping them sharp, the tingly feeling to notice the pickpocket back in thread 192 was a bit odd, but not a huge deal. But <ABOVE>, thread 199, was a step above that, Reinhold even responded back to it.

So either our sword is slowly becoming intelligent and watching our back, or Reinhold is contracting an extremely observant form of insanity.

"Ah, that's the name!" Arnaud points in the air. "Sir Gregory was saying that she's quite the lively girl, it's a shame that I've never had the chance to meet her myself."
"Well you'll get that chance tomorrow," Marianne replies. "She's a very nice girl, and I'm sure that she'd like to trade embarrassing Reinhold stories with you if she gets the chance..."

Please no.

"Don't worry Reinhold," Arnaud says, noticing your visible discomfort. "I'll refrain from that line of conversation should I get to meet her."

You're kind of surprised that Arnaud heard about Citrine from Sir Gregory of all people... and that his opinion of her seems to be on the positive side. IF anything, you'd have expected him to find her annoying.

"I suppose I ought to hurry up and send that courier," Arnaud says as he heads for the door.

And then you remember something...

"One more thing before you go!" you call out.
"What is it?" Arnaud turns around.
"Umm, my grandmother's going to be coming into town sometime soon, and I thought that maybe you'd want to know about it beforehand."
"Your..." Arnaud raises an eyebrow. "Ah, Agnes Eschenwald!"
"The one and the same," Marianne says before focusing on her tea.

>[2/?}
>>
>>36091026
>[3/3]

"Heh, this is certainly a pleasant surprise," Arnaud nods. "Though I'm sorry to say that I probably won't be able to turn her down if -she- happens to want to talk about embarrassing stories that involve you..."

Apparently, the thought of such a thing is so amusing to Marianne that she can't keep from laughing. Unfortunately for her, the comment that inspires said thought comes just as she's taking a sip of tea. It ends up going down the wrong pipe, and soon you find yourself forced to rush to the Princess's side and pat her back until she's able to breathe normally again.

"Princess, should I call..." Arnaud asks as he approaches her.
"No, I'll be fine," Marianne replies, still coughing a bit. "Just bad timing, that's all."
"If you're sure..." he sighs. "Reinhold, I assume that Melanie has informed you of what to do if the Princess starts to feel ill?"
"Yup, I got it," you nod. "Carry her up to her room, no questions asked."

As Marianne starts to glare at both you and Arnaud, the old butler simply throws up his hands and shrugs.

"I'm sorry, but it's the king's orders," he laughs.

Continuing to laugh to himself, Arnaud leaves the two of you to your tea.

Being mindful of Marianne's sore throat, you keep to yourself for the rest of your time in the courtyard. It's kind of lonely like this, especially without Luciana around to liven things up... she's taken up the habit of stopping most days around now, but "most days" isn't the same as "all days."

While it does kind of suck to not have her here with you, it's not like you won't be seeing her later today.

And suddenly you're thankful for your decision to keep to yourself, as Marianne would NEVER miss out on a chance to tease you about missing your girlfriend were you to mention her.

Marianne's next two classes seem to go by relatively quickly, and you find yourself bringing her upstairs to your room before you even know it. Though time usually seems to pass slower when you're anticipating something important, you're pretty grateful that today was an exception.

After making sure that Marianne's door is properly closed and all that, you head over to your own room and locate the bag that contains the remainder of the gifts that you bought yesterday. Karel probably doesn't want to be stuck in a carriage with you, and Melanie did mention this morning that the two of you don't really get to talk all that often... yeah, you might as well go and see if she's still in the castle.

After locating the nearest maid and asking her of your friend's whereabouts, you're told that she was last spotted making her way toeards the front gate of the castle... and so you do the same. Upon making it there, you're kind of surprised to see Melanie just standing outside of a carriage.

"Oh, there you are!" Melanie says, waving at you with a beaming smile. "Over here, Reinhold!"
"Hey, Melanie," you reply as you head on over to where she is.
"This is around the time when the Princess usually retires to her room fo the night so I held off on leaving until then... you don't mind sharing a carriage with me, do you? If you had other plans then I don't want to-"

"Great!" Melanie says, clapping her hands together. "I have the carriage all ready so we can leave whenever you are!"
"Let's get going then," you reply.

Gentleman that you are, you hop inside the carriage first and then help Melanie inside. The petite maid has a bit of difficulty doing so even with your help, so you can't help but wonder how she manages this when she's by herself.

Maybe she jumps?

Great, now you're picturing such a scene in your head. And it's adorable.

"Reinhold?" Melanie calls out to you from the other side of the carriage. "Is something funny?"
"N- no, it's nothing!" you stammer.

She sounds genuinely concerned.

"...you?" you point at her. "Growth spurt?"

It's taking everything you have not to burst out laughing.

"Sounds rough."
"Yes, it is. And she likes to pat me on the head like I'm a little kid too, it's so patronizing..."

From the way she's blushing when she complains about this, you're not sure that she actually dislikes it.

"But back to what you were talking about," Melanie sighs, "just be yourself and things should work out. You're a nice guy and most of the castle's staff is fond of you as it is... and conflicts with your friends can easily be fixed with time."

"And I've overheard a few guards complaining about the way that you talk to the Princess," Melanie says. "They don't think that you should be so casual with her."
"...oh," you reply.
"It's okay, though!" she shakes her head. "Nobody gets along with everyone, you know? And I haven't heard any complaints about your manner of speech from anyone in the royal family, so you shouldn't worry about what those guards think!"
"Well I -have- kind of been given an open invitation to visit the house of one of the royal family whenever I want," you mumble.
"And you're on the way there right now!"

The remainder of your carriage ride is spent with Melanie doing her best to assure you that it's only a few people who don't like you and that you don't have to feel bad about it.

It kind of works.

And then you realize that you managed to land a beautiful girlfriend who loves you very much and is also an actual Princess on top of that, and your mood is mostly restored.

No real reason why but been thinking and I came up with a possible in character reason as to why Reinhold insists on talking to absolutely everybody.

Growing up in the brothel after Spinelle became possessive, he latched on to talking to anybody he could to protect himself from her. As in if he's with someone she won't get him.

Then as he grew up and in the army and whatnot, he kept the habit and just is naturally a social butterfly, so to speak.

While there are two very pretty girls making out right in front of you, both of them are your friends and you are no voyeur. Opting to give them their privacy (though meeting someone at the front door with a deep tongue kiss doesn't exactly seem like something that a person concerned with privacy would do), you turn around and scan the area for something interesting to look at.

Hm, the molding around these windows is pretty intricate. It's surprising how much detail they packed into whatever material this is made from, and they serve to accentuate the mansion as a whole quite well. Maybe you'll try and draw it the next time you're here...

"You know..." Nicolette murmurs into (what you assume is) Melanie's ear, "if you actually decided to move in here, maybe I'd be convinced to-"
"N- not now, Nicolette!" Melanie mumbles.
"What, I'm actually thinking about our-"
"Not. Now."

Since they seem to have finished their makeout session, you turn to face your friends once again... and the look on Nicolette's face is absolutely priceless.

"Hey," you say, waving to her.
"REINHOLD!?" Nicolette shouts. "Wh- what the hell are you doing here, Luciana didn't say anything about-"
"He just felt like visiting," Melanie replies. "Isn't that right?"
"Among other things," you shrug.

I don't think that's physically possible, anyway.

File this away.

We shall tease her at a later date.

Act like absolutely nothing happened.

Acting as if you -weren't- just witness to your best friend's acts of lewdness towards her girlfriend, you pat Nicolette's shoulder as you walk past her into the mansion. You hear her trying to form some kind of words, but nothing come out aside from a pathetic squeaking noise.

You're nice enough not to say anything about this right now, but that doesn't mean that you won't have reason to use this against her later...

Elena, we have a gift for her, and I don't think Karel is here yet.
>>
>>36095135
The important thing is getting to talk to her privately without getting the rest of the family suspicious. Ergo, she needs to be the one getting us away from the others.

This is the pinnacle of PGQ fanworks.

I'll second this

Just laugh on the inside Rein. Keep those emotions bottled up, they'll never know where your heads at that way.

Tonight's thread was pretty great, and I'm really surprised at the amount of activity that it's gotten. But I'm still tired as hell and so I shall have to end it here.

While I wanted to get to the HAPPENINGS tonight, it looks like my previous estimate was right and it'll have to wait until next time.

The next thread will be Tuesday night, and I'll be running False Dendrite. Princess Guard should be returning on Thursday night maybe.

And now I take questions.

I am really happy with how things are going in Denrite since the time skip, hope there are more happy days and fun times with girls in lesbian with each other.

So how did Marianne took our last remark?

On a scale of 1 to 10, how mortified is Nicolette right now?
>>
>>36095209
That isn't to say I don't enjoy the fuck out of other PGQ threads, but this one especially.
>>
>>36095227
>So how did Marianne took our last remark?
It hit her right in the part of her heart that feels things.
she doesn't think that what you said was true, but she does appreciate it a lot

>>36095237
>How liable are we to make Elena explode with Grandma news?
Very.

>As was asked last thread: What were Arnaud, Greg and Vincent's biggest badass moments?
Bump that over to the ask.fm, I'll answer it there.

>>36095356
>On a scale of 1 to 10, how mortified is Nicolette right now?
I'd put it at a 7. Reinhold's seen them up to a lot worse than that.

Sleeping time for me. Thanks for playing!

Marianne all flustered at the thought of friendship, Melon alone time, castle staff hating on Reinhold, Nico all flustered from yuri action; what's not to love?

Everyone's enjoyment of this particular session probably comes from the fact that we managed to not piss someone off. In fact we managed to make someone actually feel a bit better about themselves.

Of course, once he steps on another landmine...
>>
>>36095396
>she doesn't think that what you said was true, but she does appreciate it a lot

Did she believed we lied, or that we're mistaken?

Two people. Both Marianne and Melanie.
>>
>>36095420
Probably doesn't think its true because of the whole low self esteem thing.

I swear to god Marianne, I swear to god.
>>
>>36095420
Mistaken, she wouldn't appreciate a lie. She just thinks we're a simpleton who's easily pleased.
>>
>>36095451
Which, to be fair, is true to a certain extent.
>>
>>36095464
Only a certain extent?
>>
>>36095474
Wouldn't you consider Marianne a friend at this point?

Besides he lives in a castle, he found his sister and a bonus grandmother, he has tons of friends, most of them hot girls, a gf who's the prettiest and nicest and smartest of them all, and nobody submits him to /ss/.

He has a right to be pleased.
>>
>>36095491
I thought you meant the easily pleased simpleton part.
