Slowly, I can feel the pristine world of flowers shudder and fade. The autumn breeze is replaced with the dull droning of the neighborhood. The brilliant flowers are replaced with the colorful wallpaper of the bedroom.
Next to me, breathing softly, is Kaori. I gently tap her shoulder as she gradually sits upright and rubs her eyes.

"I think you're right, Kaori. I think we should go to school."
"Uuh." She lazily rubs her eyes and looks over to me.

And then she has a sudden look of dread on her face.
"Y-you sure? Maybe we should wait a couple days just to see how things play out!"
"..Kaori, you're the one who said we should go to school."

The dread turns into shock, and then half-embarrassment.
"I wasn't thinking about it. Let's just go back to sleep and forget about it today!"

"What's wrong, Kaori? Are you worried about something at school?"
"No, no! That's not it at all!"

She breaks eye contact and jumps out of bed, putting on some clothes and heading out into the living room. Swiftly, I'm immediately on her case with questions of my own.

"Then why don't you want to go to school all of the sudden?"
"Because maybe I just don't want to!" She takes a plate out of the refrigerator, concentrating real hard on it to avoid making eye contact with me.

"Kaori, are you worried about seeing people at school?"

She flicks her head around to look straight at me. Her face is completely flustered.
"I don't know, why should I be? I only told them that I stabbed them in the back. What's wrong with that?"

"But, they're not angry at you or anything, why are you worried about that?"

She freezes up, and goes oddly silent.

I can feel myself sighing with how Kaori is acting. I know Kaori really felt guilty about saying all those mean things to her friends. I didn't think that she would be this stubborn about going and seeing them again.

"Kaori, they're not mad at you, no one is. "
"How do you know that?" she says accusingly at me. "How do you know that they're not all angry at me? I was spying on them for years! I already told them that our friendship is off, so let's just leave it at that."

Darn it Kaori, I might be the little sister here, but it's still my right to worry about you.
I try putting on the most stern little-girl voice I can manage.
"Kaori," That's a good start, "If you don't go to school today, I'm going to convince everyone to come over here instead."

Her face distorts from a confident smile into a horrified glare.
"You wouldn't."

I cross my arms,
"I would, and you know that. And it would be Maeda, too, and she would give a big long sappy speech that ends in a hug."

She clenches her teeth, and slowly puts down the plate she's taken out for herself.
"You've been my little sister for a day and you already know how to twist my arm." She says, putting her hand over her face. "Okay, fine. I'll get dressed and we'll go."

Hey! That's great! Maybe I have a knack for this little sister thing after all!

We get to school almost completely unnoticed. Kaori was worried that we may be spotted by a legion of monsters that she thinks are looking for her. Considering that Fortune knows where I live, and know that I'm the one that probably took her, I reassure her that they probably would have found us sooner if they really were looking for us.

Telling her that didn't seem to reassure her. If anything, she seems even more paranoid now than ever.
Maybe I don't quite have the little sister thing down yet.

We walk into school and say our goodbyes to one another. We promise to meet up for lunch, but I neglect to tell her that I was planning on bringing people with me when we did.

"Masami, what is this?" Kaori says, a slight tinge of annoyance across her face.

"What do you mean 'what is this'?" Aiko says, gripping Kaori's left arm in a hug.
"We were really worried about you, Kaori." Maeda says, holding Kaori's right arm in place.

The former-occult club where Kaori used to 'live' is where we've decided to meet for lunch. I decided that instead of coming alone, I would bring some of the friends who she was dreading on meeting.

"Why are you two still worried about me!?" She snaps at the two who have entangled her arms, "Aren't you mad at me in the slightest?"

"I was, but." Maeda says, cutting herself off slightly, "-but I was more worried about you than mad about that."

"I just thought it was a phase you were going through," Ryouta says, eating what looks to be Maeda's lunch, "I'm glad to see I was right."

Kaori looks over toward me with a little bit of annoyance before getting back to eating.
Everyone is still oddly silent as they slowly let go of Kaori and start on their own lunches.

"So, what happened yesterday?"
Aiko seems more interested in her food than what I just said, only responding with a "huh?"
"I mean, you said monsters attacked yesterday. Can you tell me what happened?"

Kaori looks up from her food to make a face at me. I'm not sure what it's trying to convey, but I'm guessing that she's losing patience for my prying.

"Oh! oh, that." Aiko looks over to Maeda, expecting her to finish her explanation.
Maeda notices that everyone is looking at her and clears her throat, "Yesterday, a couple of monsters came by the school. Two of them started going from building to building, but another one stood out front and tried to ask questions to the couple of students who were fearless enough to approach it."

"S-so, what did you do about it?" I ask, clear worry in my voice.
"I gave them all detention and told them not to talk about it." She nonchalantly sips from her cup.
"You can do that?"
She smiles at me, "They don' t know that I can't."

That's mean.

"So what happened after that?" Kaori urgently replies.
"Oh, after I confronted them, they left without even trying to fight."

Kaori's tone becomes sullen, "..They weren't looking for you."
"I had a feeling they weren't when I heard you were at Masami's house." She says, smiling.

Kaori darts up from her seat, "..You could have died!"
Everyone stops eating to look at her, like she just said something completely crazy.

"But, Kaori, I'm fine."
"There were three of them and one of you!"
"Yeah, So? I've fought them alone, before!" Maeda looks almost insulted.

"No! You don't understand, the ones that were after me weren't ordinary monsters. Those are a lot tougher, they're Dad's bodyguards." Kaori's face is turning red.
Maeda's face goes blank, Aiko pipes up with a "So what?"

"That means if any of you try to fight them, you could be seriously hurt, maybe even killed!" Kaori looks seriously angry right now.

I can't help but feel slightly guilty.
