“Pizza sounds great,” Keiko smiles and takes the boxes from you and sets them on the living room table while Midori gets down some paper plates and napkins.

Midori leans into you, as she pushes a small stack of paper towels and napkins into your hands as she then goes about retrieving cups and a bottle of juice.

“Miki Miki Miki Miki Miki,” she teases and then pauses, “We’re in friendly company, and it isn’t like I’d start calling you that at school...oh god...school,”

She rolls her eyes as the two of your join Kairi and Keiko in the living room.

“I was actually already out and in the neighborhood, Osaka-san,” Keiko downplays her earlier arrival, you honestly aren’t paying close attention.

“Its going to give everyone emotional whiplash when classes resume and the four of us are all buddy buddy,” Midori laughs lightly.

“You need to learn to not care so much what other people think of you,” Kairi reasons as you give her a plate and she takes a slice, “Its done wonders for me in the past few days,”

Keiko Sugimoto turns to face Midori and her expression softens.

“I told you last night, the things I can do now. I can’t waste that power when I can use it to help people,” and she turns to you, “And if you’d have me by your side, after all both of us have done, how could I say no,”

~Thank you Keiko,~ you smile, ~but it won’t be easy. There’s danger, and it’ll get worse before it gets better,~

She smiles.

I first came for the Tiger battle, but I watched it again for the characters and story.

The four of you tuck back into your Pizza, leaving the heavier talk for later. Its fun to talk about school again, with friends. Worry about coursework, learning about the next play the Drama Club is putting on, and generally trying to figure out how you and Kairi will be getting back into the swing of the social aspects of academia you’ve been ignoring whilst they were shunning you.

Briefly you bring up the recent approval of your longstanding independent study request, and chat about whether or not you should withdraw from classes. Kairi would rather not lose one of her major lifelines at school. It winds up into Midori asking why not stay in class, socializing would be good for you, and so would picking back up music.

You’re still unsure about that one, and you express it all the same.

When you’ve finished your portions of lunch, with plenty of leftovers...which you are leaving with Midori because your fridge is still full of the remains of Venus-chan’s impromptu pizza party at Aiha’s.

~Alright, let’s do this,~ you groan and wipe your hand clean of grease with a napkin and extend it toward Midori.

The piercing and burning sensation strikes you again, as your skin splits and the far deeper green stone rises out. You clasp the floating stone into Midori’s hand and it warps and shines into a bracelet set with the stone. Her body shines and her clothes are replaced by a dark uniform with short cape and gold interlace over the left shoulder. A black and gold domino mask appears over her eyes.

She stops laughing and looks at you wide eyed.

“No, I know what they are. I mean...Metallia left one inside of me?” she asks.

~Well, after I was sorting out the part of her I chowed down on...I got some of its memories. It stole a sliver of the Sun’s heart,~ you scratch your cheek in mild embarrassment, ~and its probably still inside of you,~

“What does that mean?” Midori asks while putting a hand on Keiko’s trembling own.

Kairi takes a small sip from her cup, looking back and forth between the group of you.

She goes quiet for a moment. Midori grips her hand.

One of the fun things about playing a villain is that your influence extends beyond your followers.

In a quest some years ago, I made it my business to tell the other players that the ending was predetermined straight from the start and that the hard work and suffering of the heroine we controlled would ultimately be fruitless. The way they constantly fought back and argued against my influence was one of the most enjoyable parts of my time in that quest.

Not what I'm doing this time, mind you. But it's still one of my favorite questing memories, even though my prediction for when the quest would end was way off and left me on the side of Good for like... 20 episodes instead of the 4-5 I had originally intended.
