You let training get away from you, yesterday. Probably the whole 'underground' thing. Without the sun, you can't really tell how long you've been at something.

To say nothing about your lack of ability to tell time.

In any case, Lann had been asking about working together. With any luck, she won't have left town. Or something.

You push yourself up with a yawn, legs unfolding around you. You take your time getting up, pulling your hair out of your face and tying it back, throwing on your clothes.

You'll probably have to do something about the hair eventually. Maybe just hack a bit off with the knife. It's just... really long. It's starting to be a pain.

With one friend stowed and sleeping, you turn back to the bed, where Jin is modelling her new feathers.
"I will be borrowing this, yes?"
"Lyra?"

You scoop up the white harpy, dropping her into the slot on your shell, and head for the door.
"Thank you for having us, yes! We might be back tonight. Or not."
Lia shoos you away with one wing.
"Have a good day, little ones. Try not to make a mess."

You laugh, and skitter towards the slowly waking streets. People emerging from their homes, stretching, yawning, sweeping the steps. Starting fires, checking on animals. There's no shortage of things to do in the morning, in any case. Jin still hasn't stopped bouncing in place. She's been quiet so far, though.

The guild is open already, warm lights guiding you through the doors.
Now that you think of it, you're not sure it closes, anyway.

You wave to the waitress, and head for the stairs- The rooms above all share the same door, but there's little temporary plates to show who's living where. You step lightly down the hall (No you don't) and stop in front of the door labelled with your acquaintance's name. You knock carefully and wait.

There's a muttered grumbling from within, the sounds of cloth being thrown around, and a barely awake Lann pries the door open a crack, squinting even in the lamplit hallway.
"Buhwha? Lyra?"
"Good morning, yes?"
"One word right, anyway. Whadya need?"

She muffles a yawn with one hand, scrubbing tears from her eyes as she waits.
"Ah- I was... sidetracked, with training, yesterday. So I didn't have the chance to take you up on your offer, yes?"
"My- My offer? When did I- Oh! The job! Yeah. Uh, gimme a minute, right? I'll get presentable. Dressed, at least."

You nod, and the door swings shut with a creak, and the sounds of cloth turn frantic from inside.

Jin is humming to herself, a fast little tuneless noise. You can feel her buzzing against your shell.
You hope the job is outdoors. If you don't get her into the air sometime soon, she might explode.

The door flies open again, and Lann stumbles out, yanking a boot into place and cursing. She manages to wrangle the footwear into submission, and locks her room behind her. You chat as you head back down to the common room.

"Sorry about yesterday, yes? I pretty much forgot."
"Eh," She waves a hand in response. "I didn't even think about it till now. It's fine. Heard you throttled Cliff."
"No, that's- Throttling is choking, yes? I just hit him with a spear."

"Half the guild was chatting about it," She says with a laugh.
"Nobody's gonna bet against you anymore."
"He wasn't even going to wear armour- I was afraid I was going to kill him if I hit him."

You keep up a quiet back and forth till you stand before a board covered in bits of paper. Jobs of all kinds sit before you- contracts for specific monster pieces, hunting , thinning out packs, protection services.

Lann yawns again, and you can't stop yourself from echoing it.
"Feel free to pick something you like. I pretty much play support when I'm out'n about, so I'll be good with whatever."
You take a closer look-

You nod, prompting her forward.

You continue a few steps in silence, before you turn your head to her.
"Is... is that it?"

She blushes, frowning.
"I'm not too sure about anything I've heard, now."

She nods, watching you.

Lann stumbles, making a choking noise. You continue.
"I have eight legs, yes. Two arms and six eyes. I have fangs, and I am venomous. I have yet to find something I cannot climb."
Her mouth is moving, but she can't seem to get anything out.

"I can see in the dark, my legs and claws are very sharp-"

You look the girl- The woman, you guess- over. Lann looks more like an eighteen year old. Like someone who has only just finished growing, still young.

"Most don't, yeah."
"I am part elf, too. A very small part, I think."

You give her your best fang-filled smile.
"I- uh- No. No, definitely not. Absolutely not, never."

You walk on, the trees parting into a small meadow, sunlight shining on the long grass.

She stammers her way through a few half questions while you give your best innocent smile.

The howls and screeches of a harpy and wolf in pursuit.

The opposite edge of the treeline erupts into wolves, furry bodies forming a dark mass that streams across the forest floor. You can pick the alpha out from here with ease: a beast head and shoulders over his fellows, white streaks across his form. He spots the web at the last moment, hauling back- a few of his fellows manage to stay with him, while the rest continue on their path.

A few slip beneath or around, fleeing into the woods beyond, but most of the newly formed pack ends up strewn across your trap, twitching and hanging above the forest floor. You ignore them, dropping from the tree and facing down your prey.
