You take a deep breath, trying to calm an accelerated heart rate. Why are you so nervous? It's just a simple request. Sure it's kind of a big deal. It means the return of your family name. It means the return of your family pride. It means getting Kadir to come crawling on hands and knees to apologize to you. Really, that's what you want more than anything else. You want to see Kadir humiliated in front of the entire Shahdom. Lessened in the eyes of every peasant, noble, and merchant. You take a moment to steady yourself, and when you finally speak your voice is confident.

“I want you to unbanish me, formally. Declare to the whole kingdom that I am an innocent man. I want a ceremony. I want validation that what you did was wrong and I want you to apologize in front of a crowd of hundreds.” Gods above, you hate this man. It's a little unsettling, to be honest. You didn't know you could dislike someone this intensely. Even during a moment as cathartic as this.

Kadir sighs, shaking his head wearily. “I can promise no apology, nor will I admit 'what I did' was wrong. What crime is there in having a garden, enjoying the fruits of nature? I'd hardly call it a crime. Certainly not thievery.” Is he serious? Every drop of water in the city of El-Amin, or damn near every drop, is produced by Vatis laboring tirelessly to desalinate sea water and filling the reservoirs which provide running water to the various fountains, bathhouses, and homes of the wealthy. Including the Shah's palace in its entirety. Wasting valuable water, water that you often worked day in and day out to produce, on something as frivolous as a garden filled with plants not naturally intended to survive in the desert is insulting to say the very least.
(1/2)
>>
You're snapped back to reality by the sound of Kadir's voice. “What I can offer you is this. Formal unbanishment and a ceremony in your honor, as well as high praise and additional landholdings for your family.” You're about to respond but he holds up a hand to stop you. “In addition, I must stipulate that this will not go into effect immediately. In the short term, I will send out word to those high ranking members of the City Guard to leave you to move and act as you please, and to release you should you be brought in. However, I will not actually unbanish you until my sister either lies dead, or is proven innocent.” His tone brooks little room for argument, but to be perfectly honest that's quite alright with you. There's much left for you to do in the world and you don't intend on settling down any time soon.

The two of you stand stock still, staring daggers at one another. Eventually, Kadir breaks the silence. His tone is unexpectedly soft, you'd even go so far as to say sympathetic. “Regardless of the result you've saved my life, and I don't intend on having you chased out of the realm by the guard. No matter how much of a deceitful, mean-spirited, prideful jackass you might be.” He pauses, leveling you with a look of absolute disgust. “And let me assure you, you are quite-” He stresses the word excessively, and once more his tone grows cold. “-the mean-spirited, deceitful, prideful jackass.”

Also, probably never get support for this, but ask that if he needs any proof about his sisters duplicity, we be allowed to help.

I don't think sternly proclaiming through the gritted teeth a wide insane smile "THE ACCORD HAS BEEN STRUCK," is a very wise thing to do at this juncture. I am almost positively sure that it is not, in fact, a good idea at all. Not even slightly. Not one bit. Null.

Sounds good. Even if our sister is a bitch and finds us. We will be fine.
So guys I am thinking massive read-a-thon.
Also look into having fulvia read some books with us.
Have her skim ahead several of the books we plan to read. tell us which are the shit chapters. Which ones contain the things we're looking for.
* Or who ever reads it to tell us how to obtain what we're looking for.* Say everyone grabs a different book, meditate on it. Gives us the cliff notes on how to get it done. and we all share with each other. even if 1-2 people fall behind it'll be a wealth of knowledge.

I'd damn hope the AC didn't kill them, what we were afraid of was the AC driving them out of Longia, to the surface. Hopefully they destroyed it or something by now, would hate to have killed so many of thought-to-be-lost creatures.
>>
Soma, could we meditate on what to name our baby after we know its sex? What would happen if we did?
>>
>>36030394
I'd probably suggest a list of 10 or so names, nothing particularly mystical.
>>
>>36030343
>would hate to have killed so many of thought-to-be-lost creatures.

They are dragons anon. The fewer of them left the better, aside from ours and one of the appropriate age and sex to mate with him/her.
>>
>>36030405
You're saying we couldn't feel our baby's preference/taste through our link, or is it too young to have something like that?
We should probably hurry with this though, having a name is a pretty important partnof development in society.
>>
>>36030435
They are our forefathers though, if that children's story is to be believed. They were doing just fine, chilling down there, didn't bother no one.
>>
>>36030449
But is it important to DRAGON society?
>>
>>36030470
The questoon is if it's important in OUR FAMILY.
The dragons in the mine were dicks, our baby will be much more civilized and polite and affectionate. Maybe. Not sure how good a father Mik actually makes.
>>
>>36030470
Probably.
>>
Soma, have you decided on how dragons work by now? I have a crazy "theory" but I don't want to influence you with it.
>>
>>36030552
More or less, if I understand what you mean by 'how dragons work'.
>>
Still kind of mad how our incorp potion got burned up.
>>
>>36030579
It didn't. There's a reason it's still in the pastebin.
>>
>>36030566
Well, here goes in that case.
>our newborn baby is white
>layed in magma
>skilled in fire and something else(I expect earth)
>the dragons in Longia were red/brown
Dragon colors are determined by what elements they learn while young, when they are able to learn any of them, but this gets set in stone later. Our baby is good at fire/earth because of the surroundings, but we could teach it anything.

This is pretty stupid, but I had to post it because it's such a ridiculous idea.

You extend an arm, and Kadir does the same. The both of you clasp one another by the forearm. “I agree to your terms, Padishah..” You shake once, and then separate. The agreement sealed you quickly bow and begin to make your way to the door, and freedom. Thankfully Kadir doesn't see fit to interrupt your escape, instead returning to the Varistha's former desk to read his letters.

You slip out of the twin stone doors, shutting them firmly behind you. The two guards which escorted you to the room stand to either side, one spares you a glance but the other keeps their attention focused towards the hallway. You're honestly too relieved to pay them any mind. You managed to escape that asshole without causing some sort of international incident.

Swiftly you march down the hallway, the Varistha's room vanishing around a turn. It doesn't take you long to find Kaur's room. You listen for a moment to make sure she's not otherwise occupied, and then knock thrice. Unfortunately you receive no answer. You try again, and once more are met with silence. Frustrated by this turn of events you try to think back on where it is Kaur typically spends her time. Your options are either the gardens, or the atrium. The latter is closer.

You march swiftly through the halls on your way to the atrium, determined to finally get that meditation you're owed out of Kaur. It doesn't take you long to find her, surrounded by a number of other monks. One of the Brothers turns a truly generous helping of lamb meat on a spit over a fire he seems to be maintaining via magical means. Brother Aziz sits next to Sister Kaur, one arm wrapped around her waist while the other holds a lamb skewer. He waves the skewer in greeting as he sees you approach.

“Well if it isn't the man of the hour! Word's been getting around about how you weakened the pirates enough for the Varistha to finish them off. Where've you been? I feel like I've seen neither hide nor hair of you in days, my friend!”
(1/20
>>
>>36030566
When did you decide to have dragons at the bottom of Longia?
>>
You return his wave, stepping up to the small circle of friends. You really can't fault Aziz for being the friendly sort. In comparison to his openly pleasant mood, Kaur looks at you with a mix of respect and annoyance, you can't quite decide which is dominant. “I've been quite busy, since the explosion. Lots to deal with, lots to settle. I think I've finally managed to dig myself out from beneath the pile of obligations I've had laid on my shoulders.” You turn your attention to Kaur. “Are you ready to finally pay the debt you owe me? I expect a meditation session in the near future.”

She waves a skewer airily before tearing off a chunk. Fortunately she's polite enough to chew and swallow before speaking. “I'll be free after I finish eating. Care to join us?”

>No, that's okay. You'd rather get some reading done in the meantime. When she's ready, she can find you in your rooms.

You take a seat at one end of the circle where there's space for you, and the cook sets about carving you a skewer of lamb. “That sounds lovely, Kaur. Thank you for the invitation. To be perfectly honest, I'm not even entirely certain of the last time I ate. I think I forgot to yesterday.” You seem to vaguely remember eating some of your rations at some point, but it's a hazy, indistinct memory.

You dig into the lamb voraciously, tearing off large chunks and doing your best to remember to chew. As you eat, you reach out to Chrys via the brooches. {Could you check on my Dragon? I'm going to meditate, so may not be back for several hours. It seems to enjoy, or at least tolerate, your company.}

Her response is swift. {I would be glad to, the creature is interesting and I feel may prove a useful asset in the future. In addition to being quite cute.} With that, the connection is severed and you return your attention to the meal. You've little time for conversation, though you do make small talk between bites. Once you've finished you pat your gut and sigh contentedly. It wasn't exactly the fanciest meal you've ever eaten, but the spices were just right and the meat cooked to perfection. By some miracle you're not the last to finish, and so you pass the time chatting pleasantly.

You learn that Aziz apparently intends to make an attempt at attaining Grandmastery over Water in the near future, sometime later this week. Kaur has yet to decide on a method she wants to attempt, but will likely do so soon. Indeed, most of the monks present seem to be either Experts or Masters, some in multiple elements. No Grandmasters, oddly enough. You're not sure just how many are present at the temple but you would've liked to pick their brain for more information about becoming a Grandmaster.
(1/2)
>>
Conversation turns towards the Varistha's recent passing, or assumed passing. You find yourself grilled for information about his last moments, but you manage to avoid giving out much of anything either with the excuse of not knowing or something about the Varistha's privacy. Truth be told, you still haven't fully accepted that he's dead. That entity you met last night said that the Varistha may yet live, and you cling to that slim hope.

The meal gradually ends, some of the monks leaving while others stay to continue their conversation. You think it's early morning, meaning this would be your breakfast. Convenient, maybe you'll get three meals in today. Eventually Kaur and Aziz share a brief kiss before she stands and gestures you follow. “Come on then, lets get this meditation session over with then. I want to get into the chamber before the usual morning crowd fills the place entirely.”

You push yourself up and follow her out of the atrium, you get only a few steps before Kaur stops, snapping her fingers. “Ah! Did you want to invite that friend of yours? Sister Darzi, was it?”

You do realize she's filthy rich now, right? After the wonderful idea of sharing our wealth with everyone in the party, everyone is filthy rich, and we can no longer buy out a medium sized country.
God, what a horrible decision that was, I actually wish the "but muh jew" anons could have convinced people to vote against it.

You hold up a finger, reaching out to Darzi via the brooches. You're surprised to find her wide awake, and apparently quite energetic from what you can pick up based only on the vague surface thoughts afforded to you by the brooches. {What are you doing up so early?}

Her response is swift. {I'm usually up early, though I've been slipping lately. I like to do some simple exercises. You know, push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, some stretching. Just basic stuff. Stay in shape.} She seems quite enthused about it, judging by the mental 'tone' of her thoughts.

You press on. {I probably ought to get myself on some sort of similar routine, but that's not why I contacted you. I'm finally going to get in that meditation session with Kaur. You know, the method she used that allowed her to move without losing slipping out of her trance? I was wondering if you'd like to join me.}

There's a pause before her response, and when it does come it seems as though she's calmed down. {Sure thing, Mik. I'll be down in a moment.} With that, the connection severs.

You turn your attention once more to Sister Kaur. “She'll be down in a moment.”

You're not sure why she's staring at you like that. What did you do? When she finally speaks it's to pose a question. “How do you know? You just sorta stood there staring off into the middle distance for a couple minutes. Can you communicate telepathically? Because I was relatively certain you hadn't attained anywhere close to Grandmaster rank in Nature magic; I'm pretty sure telepathy is almost exclusively a Grandmaster technique.”

(1/3 or 4)
>>
Huh, you had sort of a vague idea that telepathy was something Nature Vatis could do. You recall the Varistha using it on at least one occasion, but attributed that more to his age and power than anything else. Regardless, you grab hold of the brooch pinning your cloak closed and hold it up to the light. “This little device is actually what allows me to communicate with my party telepathically. We're all linked into a network, allowing all of us to communicate independently.”

Kaur nods appreciatively. “Impressive. It never ceases to amaze me the wonders we've lost to the past. Can you imagine where society might be right now had Rhynia and Hiacia not fallen?” She shakes her head saddly. “I can tell you, we would not be scrabbling over leftovers.”

Before the conversation can progress much further, Darzi joins your small group. Her hair is wet, though she's quickly drying it with Water magic. She seems to have washed her Monk's robes as well. It is with no small amount of embarrassment that you glance down at yourself. You're garbed in the tattered strands of your Master's robes. The white linens of your underrobe peek through several rents, fortunately keeping you descent. Only your cloak remains pristine; oddly so.

Now is hardly the time to worry about your state of dress, unfortunately. You can think about swinging by a seamstress' workshop at some later date.

“What did I miss?” Darzi ask cheerily enough while the three of you march towards the meditation chamber. You can't lie, you're looking forward to this technique. Being able to meditate while in battle, to clear your mind completely and focus on the task at hand, would prove invaluable.

(2/3 or 4)
>>
Kaur replies with a shrug. “Nothing of particular import, we were discussing the Imperial Collapse of the last millennia.” As you come to the proper door, Kaur presses her palm flat against its surface. Just a touch of vys, and it slides back without resistance. You're pleased to see that the meditation chamber is more or less empty, save for a few monks who seem to be intensely focused on quiet contemplation. The Three of you take up position in the center of the chamber, so you'll have plenty of room to move.

Kaur straightens herself to her full height and folds her arms behind her back, she reminds you more than a little bit of a drill instructor. “How much do the two of you know about Marsala Ve?”

Darzi is the first to respond. “I've several years of training under my belt, received from the El-Amin City Guard. I have faced seldom few opponents I cannot best, and know all of the ninety-three forms of Marsala Ve.” Kaur seems impressed, and you have to admit you are too. You didn't even know there were ninety-three forms of Marsala Ve. You thought there were thirty-one.

You clear your throat uncomfortably. “I received a modicum of training as a youth, and some from my Master as well. However, I am primarily a learned man. I know only a bare two dozen Marsala Ve forms.” Kaur winces, and you must admit you feel a little inadequate. Especially considering Darzi's expertise.

Kaur holds up her hands placatingly. “Alright, that's fine. You ought to be able to work with twenty-four. You ought to think about sparing with your friend some time in the near future, as the mastery over one's body is just as important as mastery over one's mind for this particular method of meditation. Now then, to start with why don't we simply go through the thirty-one basic forms?”

I think its his sanity coming back. He normally wouldn't care.
>>
>>36032343
He has a full belly and a lot less shit looming on his mind so seeing a party member the same race as him but not all shabby helped him register that his robes have been through hell is all. How? When we mind melded she got a bunch of magic training, we got some combat skill
Or do you mean when she asked for the meaning of life when we learned enchanting?
>>
>>36032441
I don't know man, she got to just below vatis level in water magic I think. Remember that we had to suffer for years under our Master's training, making us drown to just a hair's width from death until we learned to enter trance while underwater and shit.
>>
>>36032343
I'd chalk it up to less shit to deal with and having a slightly more clear mind.
>>
>>36032455
The later yeah. Sure the temptation made sense but man that's like asking a Djinn the meaning of life for one of your 3 wishes. Well its a lesson learned at least, always bargain for something concrete when dealing with spirits.
>>
Initially you find yourself stumbling, but with both Darzi and Kaur helping you through the forms you quickly find yourself flowing easily from the Rearing Sandworm to the Striking Rattlesnake, and so on through all the thirty-one basic forms. You don't truly have them memorized, but over the course of perhaps the next half-hour you certainly feel that you know them better than you did in the beginning.

Once she feels that you've gotten the movements down, Kaur stops both you and Darzi and clears her throat. “Now then! The next step is to focus on slipping into a trance, as you would normally, while at the same time continuing to run through your forms. You need to be able to simply treat movement as background noise, much like you already do sound, scent, and sight.”

She demonstrates first, slipping smoothly from form to form. One moment her motions are controlled and careful, but the next they seem to come naturally to her. Her body loosens, her breathing comes slow and steady, and her head seems to roll limply from side to side as she goes about her movements. It's a little strange to be honest. Yet she snaps out of it just as suddenly as she slipped into it. One minute she's sliding into the Spitting Camel, the next she's standing straight and still, wide awake.

“I doubt I need to instruct either of you on slipping into a trance, I'm sure it's routine for you by now. Remember, don't focus on the movements themselves. Focus on the trance. The movements are simply ambiance. A framework on which to build your trance, if you will.”

(1/2 or 3)
>>
This is fairly standard pseudo-mystical rambling. You've already started going through the forms, trying to focus on letting your consciousness slip away. Darzi's doing the same beside you, all under the watchful eye of Kaur. After a time, you feel a heavy fog descending on your thoughts. Your eyelids droop low, and your breathing slows. You slowly, ever so slowly feel your consciousness slipping away. Soon you're surrounded by a sea of purple, green, and blue vys. Flashes of red burst into existence here and there as you move through the forms passively, letting your body do as it wishes while you focus your mind on the ebbs and flows of vys.
>Technique Learned! Meditation on Forms
>Allows you to gather vys and meditate, while at the same time slowly improving your martial skill. At your level of martial expertise, inflicts a -2 malus on meditation rolls. This will improve as your martial talents improve.

After a time, you find yourself naturally slipping out of your trance, returning to the realm of conscious thought. You feel refreshed, you think you've managed to replenish your vys pool. Darzi and Kaur are chatting amicably next to you, sitting in the sands of the meditation chamber. Your arms feel a touch sore, as do your legs. However, it seems your abdomen is the worst affected by such an extended period of exertion. It feels like rubber, and uncomfortably tense. You suppose a sign of progress.
>Vys Pool: (36/36)

You're not sure how long you've been out, but it must've been several hours. Your reserves are certainly replenished. Oddly enough, the meditation chamber is even less populous than it was when you first entered. So much for the morning rush, eh?

If you say 200 then I'm okay for now, we might be able to get you to keep going by then after all. But seriously, PGQ is on thread 212 right now, and that is not even 1/10 as good as Banished if you ask me.
Looking forward to next time, Soma!

We have been forcing him to play out each living day instead of relying on timeskips. It might of effected his sense of time.
>>
>>36032722
Okay, real talk, once we got a good amount more accomplished and it's at a good point, I'd be fine with a time-skip if it meant Soma would keep running, and I'm the anon who said that I don't want timeskips every time it's been brought up.
But I hope this would only really bee needed around thread 170 or so, though hopefully later than sooner.
Still, if it means we get more Banished, then I'll consent to it-
>>
>>36032758
I think it's more because we've sorta committed to becoming unbanished now. Requesting that of the Shah was the endgame trigger, though I doubt it will be as simple as I'm hoping it will be.
>>
>>36032776
Fuck, I sure hope not, I was actually afraid getting unbanished might be something more trouble than it's worth. That's why I didn't vote for it. I mean, I hoped we'd just spend some time with our Master and visit our family, then go off adventuring again, though more sensibly than before.
>>
>>36032654
I'm well aware of that. I was being facetious, as I do not expect that much to be done within twenty threads. Hell I'd be surprised if we completed the bucket list in 50 threads.

>>36032647
Honestly if the other things are all taken care of and Mik and Co are swoll and reasonably successful in their past endeavors I'd even like to see the building of the new empire that half the group is somewhat geared for (with Fluvia and Mortia being 100% on the Rythian empire at the least). Though maybe a sequel quest for that would be best if ever done.
>>
>>36032797
I mean, it IS "Banished Quest"
>>
>>36032799
If I don't get to explore aspects of the setting I really wanted to, I'll definitely run another quest in the same setting. However, before the sequel I'd need to finish off LQ to a satisfactory degree and start up the Sci-fi quest.
>>
>>36032803
It'd be great if Banished Quest ending just meant that Soma would start running Vatis Quest staring Magic Mik and His Merry Band. I'd be all about that. Alternatively... Soma how many laws does a guy gotta break to get you to run a game set in Mundus online or in person?
>>
>>36032799
To be honest, if a sequel is needed, I think it'd even be possible to have Mik as the MC again, he will presumably be a water GM with an insanity-removing ring by the end after all, I fully expect him to be able to live for thousands of years if nothing drastic happens, and possibly even then.

I'd be willing to run a game on Saturdays, maybe. Once a week, maybe once every other week depending on my course load at the time. I'd probably do it over IRC, and I'd need to start it with the strict understanding that the PCs will never appear in Banished, or if they do only as background character shout-outs.

I'd also need to decide on a system to run it. My first instinct would be RuneQuest 6th, but Talislanta, Savage Worlds, or M&M might also work. I'd have to really limit power selections in M&M though. Dark Eye could work as well, but I've only ever played it, never run.

See mate, this is the reason why /tg/ isn't completely kosher. Relax. You need to calm down. Like, my autism meter just pinged Phil Fish levels of spurge. At this point, you're just saying shit for the act of saying shit.
>>
>>36033134

The funny thing is, this kind of thing doesn't really bother me. It's harmless, so I just shrug my shoulders and move on. What gets to me is when we're in a game and people pull one of those, "these people that are our friends need to know that they're under us and remember their place." Luckily BQ doesn't have a lot of that in general, but every time I see one of those things I tend to get the creeps and be glad I don't know those people in rel life.
>>
>>36033134
Eh, I've been putting it off for months now, might as well get around to it.
Oh yeah, and in response to people who said self-immolation is not a good method because sanity:
>> How much of a san lost would lying in fire for a week entail?
>Not too terribly much. No more than any other method of attaining Grandmastery.
>>
Please dont end BQ
>>
>>36032572
I'm willing to patreon for BQ to stay running
>>
>>36032866
only after BQ is over.

A good part of this quest is exploration and we wouldn't want to take away from the main thing.

Blood Battles 4 lyfe
>>
>>36034527
>not wanting superhealing
>>
>>36034817
Yours is boring and provides minimal bonuses.
>>
>>36034892
>implying
What are these god tier bonuses of blood battle that makes it worth spending weeks on it?
I didn't even want to start an argument about this but now you're just begin unreasonable.
>>
>>36034909
Im being unreasonable on purpose anon.

Though i do still believe the blood battles method to yield more favorable bonuses
>>
>>36034927
Ah, well, fair enough, I suppose I'm a bit tense from going through Soma's ask page for my questions.
>only halfway done
But seriously, we should really consider what's more important to us with water magic, healing or control. We can already do some really freaky shit at Master level control if we study anatomy, and that will increase significantly once we hit GM regardless of method. I also tried coming up with ways to cheat the system and get bonuses for healing and control, but then realized it's not worth the effort and risk and I decided that taking the fast option of self-immolation, getting god-tier healing is the best choice in my opinion. Honestly, submerging ourselves in magma/lava would be even faster, but that's a bit too risky even for me.
>>
>>36034968
>cheat the system and get bonuses for healing and control
The blood battles method does that

and it would only take a week or to for that method aswell
>>
>>36035681
It is also the least risky method there is.
>>
>>36035681
It's not even close to the healing bonus burning ourselves gives us though, and takes longer. I seem to recall it being month or so, did Soma change that? We'd also have lots of water vatis around us if we self-immolate at the temple, so that'd reduce the risks significantly.
>>
>>36035715
Still as is now our Water Control is shitty and we already have GM level healing. Bloodbattles will boost our already GM healing and bring our Water Control up to strong levels.

While at the same time giving us valuble combat experience from us fighting ourself thousands and thousands of times.
>>
>>36035743
Eh, I suppose I won't be able to change others' minds anyway. It just seems like a really lame, anticlimactic way of reaching GM to me.We already have GM healing, but even if we burn ourselves we'd have GM control and supegoodrGM healing, compared to goodGMhealing and goodGM control.
>>
>>36035766
more of

Stronghealing and Strongcontrol

We already have Good healing
>>
>>36035776
Nah, we have baseline healing, and a whole lot of good that does, we can't even handwave whole harms back. I doubt regenerating blood is anywhere even in the same plane as regrowing the whole body and keeping one's self alive while being a skeleton with a couple organs in the open fire.
I expect fire method to give us at least very least 3 times better healing than bloodletting.
>>
>>36035766
It would actually be very climactic, just imagine Soma writing the gladiator-esque battles when it comes down to the final battles. The fine amounts of control as we battles ourself simultaneously with tons of unique fighter.

Imagine the final fight.
>>
>>36035803
Soma said we'll never be able to handwave limbs back. hands yes, not limbs
>>
>>36035803
I doubt it.

Remember that during the fighting we'll also be repairing the damaged winners with our own blood so it's a constant thing.
>>
>>36035804
The anticlimactic part is it would take weeks, there is no way Soma can properly write that while making it exciting.
Imagine instead as you set yourself on fire and welcome the incredible pain, then as it slowly recedes and you lose all sensation as nerves burn away, left with your thoughts as you continue to keep yourself just a step away from death, and eventually learning a secret of the universe.
>>36035828
It's still just making more blood, pretty simple, if difficult, repairing organs is way more complex shit.
>>36035814
He said it would be beyond our level if we reached GM because of insufficient vys, and I doubt constantly regrowing entire limbs and muscle would not make it significantly easier to do.
>>
>>36035864
The self immolation was supposed to take 1-2 weeks as well, about the same.

And that sounds like you really couldn't write more than a couple paragraphs on it. At least with the blood battles it's constant action.

yeah, its not as good at the self immolation at healing but it is still a difficult task that will net us a good bonus to healing.

And you seem to be misundertanding the whole self immolation process. The plan was to let it burn away our skin and just halt theburning there with regen. Not limbs and organ be created every couple of minutes.

It'll be closer to stasis than a constant fight for survival.
>>
>>36035864
Not that anon but do you really wanna have Chrys watch as we become a burnt husk before her very eyes?

Other methods will have our companions staring at us in wonder, this would disgust and horrify them.
>>
>>36035922
Self immolation takes a week tops, closer to 5 or so days, actually. Submerging in lava takes like 2 to 3 days, 5 at most I'd think.
http://ask.fm/Quidam_Asinus/answer/117374757435
>>36035934
Eh, they've seen us do crazier things for less, and this is actually pretty legit, as far as GM meditations go.
>>
>>36036007
I just think there better and cooler options

self immolation seems kinda valinna
>>
Honestly, if we're serious about getting grand master, we might want to level up our nature magic a bit for the bonuses we would get first, no matter what method we use. Whatever we do, I want to get it right the first time.
>>
>>36036007
Still think the extra bit of time is worth the benefits
>>
>>36036007
Mate, let's just take the safe option and do the blood thing, it's the best combination of safety, time efficiency, and versatility.
>>
>>36036075
of course
>>
>>36036060
I would think being a skeleton with a bit of flesh on it that's on fire is pretty far away from being vanilla though. Blood-battles are basically just glorified Siege battles, which are pretty vanilla since every vatis can do it.
>>36036077
I guess we will just have to agree to disagree on that point. To be honest, I think even if they took the same time I'd still vote for immolation, it's just more appropriate/fitting/legit if you ask me. I mean, GM methods include eating a hydra's heart, huffing spice and meditating for weeks, those are metal enough to deserve something on the level of setting ourselves on fire. I'd also be fine with the frostbite option tbh, if you guys only want blood stuff for control, frostbite also has healing and control and would take about a week as well.
>>36036087
Eh, I just think attaining GM should not be safe, it makes it feel cheap and forgettable, especially when compared to methods we know of. I honestly doubt anything that doesn't have a significant chance of us dying would have good enough benefits to be worth the time and choosing it over the ones we know give us really good shit and don't take long.
>>
>>36036135
Getting GM is getting GM, sure it's different depending on the method, but it's the same fucking goal at the end, I'd rather no risk death for the sake of some narrative satisfaction or some minor benefits.
>>
>>36036171
I can't deny the logic in what you're saying, but I also can't deny that I feel there are proper ways to attain GM, and those are not the safe ones carefully thought out to have as many benefits and as little drawbacks as possible, especially since we don't actually know what benefits they would give because Soma refuses to say it. The only thing I'm sure of is that blood method wouldn't give nearly as good healing as fire/frostbite method, while the frostbite method might give great healing as well as control. See how the dangerous methods sound like they would give better bonuses?
>>
>>36036171

To be fair, in the end, some narrative satisfaction is the whole point of these threads. I'd much rather make a choice for that reason then a lot of other reasons out there.
>>
>>36036215
I'm not doubting what you say, I'm just saying it would really fucking suck to accidentally end our quest due to the assumption that we could possibly gain some minor benefits by risking much more than we should.

>>36036266
Again, I don't disagree, but have some faith in Soma.
>>
>>36036295
I seriously think it's worth taking the risk to make our first GM (and hopefully the other ones too) special, since we'd be in a place with a ton of Master healers and possible even GMs to save our ass. And I fully believe that Soma also thinks fire/frostbite would be the most metal, cathartic method but refuses to say so because he doesn't want to influence us.
Ah well, I'm about done with counting this shit so I'll finish that real quick, then maybe we can continue the discussion, or switch to a different topic once everyone has said everything he wanted to.
>>
>>36036295

Oh, I do have faith in Soma. Whatever happens I already know it'll be good. Personally I don't really care about the method we use because I trust him. That being said, I can't think of a better reason to want to do something then, "because I think it'll be cool."
>>
>>36036391
I'd think a better reason would be "Because this might not be as cool, but is safer and would allow us to possibly do even cooler stuff in the future." Maybe. Unless it's really fucking cool, which is not the case in my opinion in this particular case.
>>
>>36036438
Honestly, what is the danger in it when we're in the meeting place of high level healers, and even Darzi and Chrys, hell even Fulvia, maybe even Prof couls snuff out the flames? The cooler stuff is really subjective though, I think healing shit is way cool, and doing cool water control shit doesn't really require supergood control. To give an example, once we're good enough in nature and know the human body, we could totally just use water magic to move the liquid inside enemies' semicrcular canals, utriculi, sacculi, and cochlea(s?) to make them lose balance, become dizzy, faint, hear voices, or overload their hearing, even at our current level I think.
Thinking about it, I expect fire/frostbite to give us a bonus of significantly lessened pain sensations from having our nerves constantly fucked up during the process, beside the already established shit.
>>
>>36036135
>I would think being a skeleton with a bit of flesh on it that's on fire
thats not what it would be.
>>
>>36036135
So your voting on something because its metal/dangerous?

your a terrible quester
>>
>>36036661
Right excuse me, I should have said with some organs on it.
http://ask.fm/Quidam_Asinus/answer/117376737339
>you'd essentially be a charred skeleton with some organs dangling out.
>>
>>36036646
because GM methods are always dangerous, especially if they involve burning yourself alive
>>
>>36036690
But we wouldn't be regenerating those organs. the only thing we would be doing is regening skin and muscle. not that great
>>
>>36036689
Yes, go ahead and disregard every one of the points I brought up and the legitimacy of my arguments just because I also said that my vote also happens to be the more metal option. I'm not the one who voted for the mask or the bar, or even for messing with the dragon heart when we found it.
Fire method is perfectly legit and has serious points for it, I can accept you not agreeing but please don't act so ignorant.
>>36036710
Yeah, but they are possible to succeed in even when one is on his own, being surrounded by great healers significantly lessens the chance of the death, even if it doesn't help the chance of failure.
>>36036722
I understand it as letting our skin and muscle be burned away, and then keeping our organs functioning as the flames eat away at them, so regenerating them at the rate they are being burned. Soma has stated the reason this and frostbite would work is because the whole body, every cell would be regenerated at one/several point(s).
http://ask.fm/Quidam_Asinus/answer/117533831739
Or at least the same is true for fire, but even if not, those organs are definitely not covered with muscle/skin and kept alive by healing.
>>
>>36036710
Just throwing it out there, setting Mik on fire is not nearly the most dangerous meditation for GM we know of. Hell, I'd say it belongs to the safer ones.
>>
>>36036775
It does, it just seems that after all the facts are put out your decision is ultimately made by how cool it is
>>
>>36036817
I apologized if that seemed to be the case, but I can assure you that it is not in fact what my decision is based on, it is simply a bonus and a point I thought might convince others who were on the fence about the issue.
>>
>>36036775
It's not safety that makes it want blood battles method, it's the benefits.
>>
>>36036845
I can accept if you think having decent/mediocre control and healing is better than god tier healing and normal control, I'm just trying to argue for my stance.
>>
>>36036862
It'd be good healing and good control.

Along with a boatload of combat experience.

We already have decent GM healing.
>>
>>36036900
Soma said we would have good/normal/baseline GM-level water control at least, regardless of method used to advance.
>>
>>36036962
So the Blood Battles would bump us to Strong?

Either way I'd rather not have our water control be shitty, especially with how much we use it. Double especially with Point Defense/Offense
>>
>>36036999
We would never have shitty water control, even baseline GM water control can wreck Masters, remember?
I'm saying going fire route would still let us have good enough water control to curbstomp fuckers, especially since now we know Fire magic, which is way more suited to combat than water.
>>
>>36037023
That reminds me, we should really start thinking of some Fire techniques soon.
>>
>>36037023
So we would have Strong healing and Great control.

I'd rather have that than excellent healing and average control
>>
>>36037033
We have a list. Like 3 are for fire I think
>>
>>36037080
You do realize that we'd also have to leave our dragon alone for weeks to do Blood Battles, compared to the days of Immolation, right?
>>
>>36037109
We can impress that we gotta do something for a little while and we'll be back soon. It would be a great opportunity for it to bond with the party.

And we're not doing it now. We're gonna wait until we got a bunch of other stuff on the list. So the dragon should be a little more mature.
>>
>>36037095
If you mean >>36029475 then I'd say then I'd say only blowtorchwhich for some reason is still listed as firecutting, FUCK(would only count it if we got it to Ozai vs Aang levels) and liquid fire could count as combat techniques, and liquid fire is a share fire/water thing, so we might have to use water techniques with that, I'd only count it as a half.
So we have 1.5 techniques thought up.
I was thinking kind of like PD, except we can set up a sphere around us and snuff out flames that come inside it or set enemies on fire with Nature magic? Probably do flash grenades inside people's eyeballs. Things like that.
>>
>>36037193
Liquid fire and magnification are both fire
>>
>>36037193
None of those techniques made sense
>>
>>36037153
Eh, okay that is more reasonable, let's wait a bit then. I'd really like to meditate on this before trying it though, just the whole situation and to consider our techniques, like we did with the Shah assassination, get Soma to give us hints and shit, should prove informative. Also, since Kaur's bf is trying for it soon, we could ask them about it.
>>
>>36037223
I second this suggestion.
>>
>>36037223
Definitely meditate on it.

And of course we'regoing to ask around, and watch their attempts
>>
>>36037208
Did you read the post? Liquid fire is a mix of water and fire magic, and magnification is not a combat technique.
>>36037220
Excuse me but the flash "grenade" inside/in front of enemies' eyes totally makes sense, remember that Fire controls light as well, this could be a non-lethal way to disarm foes not skilled in extrasensory Nature magic.
>>
So the decision is that we need more info.
>>
>>36037223
Meditating on it is a good idea, we should try to read up on water GMhood and think up lots of methods for it before than though, so we have a lot of options.
>>
>>36037278
Seems that way.
No one loses outright, and we get more/clearer info than what we have right now. A win for everyone, if you ask me.
>>
>>36037258
The liquid fire we still count as a meditation I think.

And it doesn't matter whether the magnification is a combat technique. It's still a meditationfor fire.

And the whole Flash thing is a good idea.
>>
>>36037335
Oh yeah, those are definitely good meditation ideas, but I was talking about actual combat techniques like the ones we have for water.
Also, we should probably decide now what we want to concentrate on, actual flame/heat magic, or illusions, to get that semi-GM bonus for it.
This can wait until the middle or so of next thread though, of course.

Also, I'm the anon who was going to count his asks.
So yeah, counting only the ones answered that haven't been deleted, and because my memory isn't perfect possibly including some that weren't asked by me on accident, with the ones I know for sure were asked by me, I got the result that the maximum number of my questions Soma has answered is around 554, that is, 23.3% of all the answered questions on his ask page at this moment.
>>
>>36037425
a combination for fire
>>
>>36037425
oops my b.

I suggest illusions and the like. but we should read our books first to check things out.
>>
>>36037457
Yeah, we should read all our books and advance in the other elements before messing with Fire so we know what the best way to go about it is.
>>
Oh man, we went beyond the bump limit before Soma woke up. Such a shame, maybe we could have gotten another Q&A from him, or maybe another thread. Well, might still happen, but yeah, less likely now.
So, have you guys been working on anything? I made that alphabet mentioned on his ask page and are still working on it, as well as thinking of what language properties to use.
That's probably all I can work on until we read Varvar's and our books though, not really anything that outside researchers could help, since we shouldn't try to meta.
>>
Okay, here's what we need to do, we need to git gud with the our and movementmeditation to be able to play the song of our soul on it while meditating. Besides being amazing, could also help with sound magic, which reminds me that we should go and study how the musician plays the oud. Could do some fun flirting while doing it too, could be adorbs.
>>
>>36038309
It's on the list
>>
I love you, Soma-senpai!
