After your talk with Lisa, the two of you continued your way across the desert. It was still early in the morning, so the heat hadn’t set in yet, though it would only get worse as the day went on.

Riolu was still keeping a brisk pace, though Froakie has switched to resting on you rather than continuing to walk. Bagon has slowed his pace a fair bit, though he’s keeping up with the group just fine.

Lisa’s Pidgeotto is circling lazily overhead, on the lookout for danger. While not overly necessary, the bird seems to be enjoying the chance to stretch his wings after the extended period underground.

On one of the wider circles, you spy the flight pattern change, as Pidgeotto begins flying in tight circles in the distance ahead of you.

“Pidgeotto found something,” Lisa explains, “That signal means it’s other people.”

Pidgeotto was still quite a ways off, though it was returning back to your direction now. It didn’t seem to have picked up speed, so at least you could be reasonably certain they hadn’t threatened it.

You’d have a few minutes before you’d cross paths with them, probably less if they were headed towards you. It’s possible that they could be other travelers, but it might not hurt to be cautious.

Can Pidgeotto give any indication of numbers? I'm thinking something like three taps on the ground for three people or something

If there's only a couple headed our way I see no need to be overly cautious, but if there's a whole group then it'd be best to play it safe

Once Pidgeotto returns, Lisa confirms a few more of the details. There are two people, but they also have a rather large monster with them.

You decide to continue along the trail as normal. After all, it's just a couple of people. What could go wrong?

Soon enough, you spot a pair of figures upon the horizon. Between them is indeed some large shape, most likely the monster Pidgeotto spotted. As you draw closer, you can tell that it's a rather vibrant orange color, and it seems to be moving about on four legs.

As your group draws closer to theirs one of the figures raises their hand in a wave. You return the gesture, and manage to confirm that these are just other travelers.

Once you're closer, you get a better picture of the other group. The two figures seem rather heavily garbed for the weather, with a large amount of cloth over almost the entirety of their person, save for their faces, which have a deep tan. They aren't carrying much on them, though looking at the monster its clear why. The large beast is slowly plodding forward with a large number of satchels, bags, and sacks tied onto it. A system of ropes crosses over several areas of its back, but most of them seem to be tied around two rocky protrusions on the creature's back.

While you're confident that these men aren't a threat to you, you also don't know them at all.

"Hello there!" you call out as you close the distance, slowing your pace.

"Greetings traveler," one of the men replies with an accent you don't recognize, "If you are heading to Coumarine, I'd suggest you turn back for the capital."

"Why is that?" you ask, "It's our hometown after all."

"My apologies," he replies, "I thought you merchants like we. It seems that you have not heard of the blockade?"

"Blockade?" Lisa interjects.

"Several ships have anchored themselves around the port," he continues, "Preventing anyone from leaving. Unfortunately, our ship too is now stuck along with those of your countrymen. Now we are stuck here."

"How far away did you sail here from?"

"Zynal," he answers, "It is a small region far to the southeast of your country, across the sea. Simply put, there's little chance of us returning without our ship. The journey would likely take months on foot."

"So why are you headed to the capital?"

"Mainly to avoid any potential violence that might break out as a result of that blockade. We sent some of our crew ahead to secure lodgings, and left some behind to watch the ship. From there, we will plan our next move."

"Well, I hope you get home safely," you say.

"And I shall hope that you have safety within your home," he replies.

"Do you know how our families are doing?"

"I cannot say for certain," he states, "Though no ships have tried to get past the blockade. Last when we left, things were tense, but not violent."

"Do you know who the blockaders are, or how many of them there are? Or what sorts of monsters they have?"

"I didn't recognize their flags, and I made a point to stay away from their ships," he responds, "As for monsters, they probably have quite a few aquatic ones, but beyond that I couldn't say.

"You aren't planning on fighting them alone are you?" he says with a chuckle.

"Wait, if you're merchants, what were you selling?"

"Fine silks and spices from further east," he smiles, "They're much easier to come by in our country, and sell very well here. One of our passengers also had a box of strange fruit he said was from over there, though I can't say how much he makes off of that. We do have a few spices and silks on us if you wished to purchase them, and some rare incenses as well if you'd prefer."

Healing or restoring items would be great. Beyond that I don't remember enough of the games to say.

incenses, to help concentration (or directly aura stuff) as we tend to meditate a lot, maybe?

To clarify, specify if you want to look at the spices, the silks, or the incenses. You can look through all of them, though in the interest of saving time it's easier if I just list the ones you guys actually want to look at.
>>
>>36026213
Like I said I don't know what each does anymore so incense I guess?
>>
>>36026282
Maybe a focus sash?
It leaves the holder with 1 hp if they had full health before taking what would otherwise be a fatal attack.

Could be useful for reckless gambits, though playing like that doesn't seem like it'd necessarily end well
>>
>>36026213
>the incenses
Lax Incense increase evasion by 10% in the games. So that.
>>
>>36026336
>reckless gambits
Sounds like something Bagon would do.
>>

On that note,
-Luck Incense doubles money from battles
-Odd Incense boosts psychic-type moves by 20%
-Pure Incense lowers wild pokemon encounter rate

Does aura count as psychic-type? I'd consider it more to be fighting

You ask to look at some of the incenses he has., and he moves over to his pack-beast and produces four small jars of various color. He briefly explains each to you.

>Yellow Jar: Said to bring good fortune to those who breathe it
>White Jr: Sharpens the mind and helps one focus
>Purple Jar: Smells different to each person, and said to have magical properties
>Blue Jar: Smells of a fresh sea breeze and helps wash away foul odors

You decide to try out your new purchase. You untie the small string keeping the lid in place, taking care not to drop anything. You tentatively take a sniff.

Surprisingly, it doesn't smell much like anything, though you feel its effects rather quickly. Your senses feel a bit more pronounced, and glancing around, you notice that it's easier to pick out the smaller details of the things you're looking at. It's a slight difference, but noticeable.

The thought occurs that if this focuses your normal senses, it might also work for your Aura vision. You tie up the incense and put it away, not wishing to drop it while your eyes were closed.

You shut your eyes and being to focus, and you feel the results almost immediately. The range of your vision feels much larger than usual, and you're able to pick out even smaller auras from the distance that you could usually only sense powerful auras from. Focusing on more than one still proves difficult, but you find that quickly switching is also easier than it was before.

As you try focusing on something closer to you however, you notice something odd. There's almost a sort of fuzz permeating the air. It isn't making it more difficult to see things, since the auras glow brightly through it, but it is rather noticeable and distracting. You try focusing elsewhere, and get the same results. No matter where you look there's fuzz permeating the air. You can even sometimes see it being pushed around like leaves in the wind.

You focus nearer to you, finding the fuzz there as well. You swear you can almost feel it on your skin now, and it's a very strange sensation. It's not a very strong sensation, and if you weren't focusing on it wouldn't even be noticeable, but the fact that you are means it's filling your thoughts.

You glance down and see that it's even covering the ground now. Every single pile of sand, rock, and crevice.

You pause for a moment as you realize something. You were using your aura vision, but you could see the ground. Ordinarily you could only see living things using it, but for some reason you could visualize the ground. Was it because of all the fuzz around it? Is the fuzz alive somehow?

You watch your feet as you walk forward, the sand shifting under your weight and the ground in your vision shifting as well, the fuzz flowing out of the way as it does so.

You quicken your pace, and soon you're walking at full stride with your eyes closed. You feel like you could do anything.

At least until you notice the ground slowly start to get dimmer and the fuzz gradually fade away. You stop moving in order to prevent yourself from tripping as you watch the image of the desert disappear. You're fairly certain that the fuzz should still be there, which means that the effects of the incense must have worn off.

Blinking your eyes open, you're treated the sun shining brightly down from above, blinding you for a moment. It seems that it's around the middle of the day. Based on what Lisa mentioned earlier, you still have a little under a day's journey ahead of you.

You decide to continue your trek until nightfall. You're worried about your family, and you want to get there as soon as possible.

The going is slow and arduous. The sun is unrelentingly beating down upon you, and your cloak isn't helping as much as you'd like it to. You're sweating like crazy, and you're rather frequently needing to slake your thirst.

The others are about as bad off as you. Bagon seems to be doing the best, while Froakie seems to be doing the worst. He sealed himself up in one of your side bags, which was showing some signs of dampness on the sides. The extra weight isn't doing you any favors, but you shudder to think what would happen if the poor frog had to march through this weather.

As the sun sinks below the horizon, the heat continues to linger in the air for a time after. Your group slumps down, hastily setting up camp near an outcropping of rock. You haven't slept in a day and a half, you're sweaty, and you're exhausted. Moments after you crawl into your bedroll, you go out like a light.
