Welcome to Banished Quest!

You pull your cloak away, revealing an area of the floor conspicuously lacking ash where the massive pile of gold once sat. You frown, and with a wave of your hand water condenses from the air and rolls across the floor, quickly picking up ash and detritus and depositing it onto the clean floor, creating a patch of black mud which you quickly deplete of water. Only ash is left behind.

Another knock on the door, this one more insistent. You glance over your shoulder to see your dragon snoozing pleasantly, while Chrys has cracked an eye open. She frowns, muttering something under her breath that you didn't quite catch, it sounded like her native tongue but you're not entirely sure. “I was unable to gain any sort of insight, if anything I feel as though my understanding has been lessened. How am I supposed to sense life; should I focus on seeing the heat of a living creature? The glow of their reserves? The-”

She's cut off by another sharp knock, this time accompanied by a voice. “The Shah has need of you, Aghtak. We would rather not drag you from the room. I can assure you, you are not to be executed as the law demands.” Somehow he sounds vaguely disappointed. You're not sure whether to be discomforted or insulted.

You glance towards your dragon, which has rolled over onto its back and stretched its wings out a tad, still fast asleep, its forked tongue lolling out the side of its snaggle-toothed jaw. It would be cute, were you not so worried about the guards seeing that you harbor a live dragon. The average Samjan would sooner soil themselves in fear and run away rather than attack an adult dragon, but considering that these are the Elite of the Shah's military, and your dragon is but a babe, somehow you can't help but wonder whether or not the reaction will be as favorable as it typically would.

We should explain it to the guard at least. So he doesn't freak out that we're in full armor. Or just say we were meditating in it.
>>
>>36023700
Because we just completed something that people were considering meditating to accomplish. We only spent a couple Vys and it's a situation that it actually helps us.
>>
You focus on the drag, the world fading out as your consciousness slips away. Innumerable strands of light seem to fill the air, blinding you for a moment. They form a thick mesh of color and light, seeming to reflect off of or be absorbed by most every surface in the room, especially the ash on the floor. Most of them seem to be originating from the enchanted blanket you crafted for your dragon, the shifting blacks and reds of the smoldering cloth casting a strange glow on the room.

Slowly, you manage to pick through the mesh and find your dragon, nudging strands carefully aside until you find the incredibly bright glow of your dragon's vys reserves. Every action you take seems to drain an inordinate amount of vys for very little gain. Thus, it's with some relief that you're finally able to accomplish what you set out to do, manipulating the strands of glowing light. It seems to take naught but a thought to alter their very structure, change their properties, so that as they strike your dragon's hide instead of being absorbed or reflected, they merely pass through.
>Vys Pool: (28/36)

You snap out of your trance-like state, pleased to find yourself still standing. A quick survey of your room reveals your dragon to be nowhere in sight, though you feel a constant drain on your vys reserves with every passing moment allowing you to be sure that the spell persist. The spell seems inordinately taxing, perhaps simply because it's the first time you've cast it. Regardless, you ignore the mental burden and stride confidently towards your door.

You grab hold of the handle and pull, finding yourself faced by two masked figures, one of them has taken several steps away from the door and seems as if they might have been preparing to kick it in, though you can't be certain. The other speaks. “It is good to see that we will not need to do this the difficult way. It would hardly be fitting to be dragged bodily to meet the Shah so that he might grant you a boon.”
>Vys Pool: (26/36)

You think he's mocking you, though you're not certain. It's not either of the two guards you've met so far. As you're about to speak, the other guard interrupts you. “By the gods, man. What happened to your room? The place is just as scorched as the ass crack of Surya.”

You peer at the man for a moment, a mix between confusion and disbelief clear on your face. Certainly an inventive exclamation, you'll give him points for originality. “Accident during meditation, set my furniture aflame. I doubt the blaspheming the gods was particularly necessary.”
Vys Pool: (25/36)

Chrys steps into the door frame next to you, stretching briefly. You think you hear one of the guards, you're not sure which, hiss something under their breath; it might've been 'Mutant' but you're not sure. Regardless, Chrys doesn't seem to mind, rather she merely squeezes your forearm and mutters sincere words of reassurance. “Good luck, I will see you upon your return.” Then, with her piece said, she slips past you and the guards to make her way to her rooms.

Once she's taken her leave, attention once more falls upon you. “With us, Aghtak. The Shah is waiting in the late Varistha's quarters.”
Vys Pool: (24/36)

You close the door behind you, finally severing the flow of vys to your spell. You feel the drain on your reserves cut out immediately, but you still feel tired. Just moments ago you had full reserves, and in moment's you've lost a third of your vys to what one might think a relatively simple spell.

You follow in silence for a time, but the atmosphere eventually gets to you. You break the uneasy silence by clearing your throat and posing a question. “So, how's working for the new Shah?”

One of them, you think the mocking one from earlier, doesn't respond. However, his compatriot seems more than happy to make conversation. “Oh, same as working for most any nobleman, save this one's jumped up a fair bit higher than the others so you've gotta swear all them oaths up and down about dying for this, dying for that, protecting these, so on and so forth. You know how it goes.”

You nod, sagely. “Indeed, once I graduated from my apprenticeship and passed the various test necessary to earn my robes it seemed I spent a full day and night swearing to protect the realm.”

The other guard scoffs. “Fat lot of good that does, you accursed Vatis are stingier than Bhataki and twice as mad. You keep half the realm functional, sure, but it's only the half that directly affects you. You could care less about the common folk, and don't feed me some lie about only doing what the Shah orders you. I know for a-”

His companion cuts him off. “By Pani's sweet, succulent tits; relax man! What, did a rogue Vatis kill your parents or something?”

The ornery guard rest his hand on the hilt of his blade; a long, straight weapon that seems to give off the faintest hint of magical power. However, he declines response. Presumably because you've arrived at your destination. You stand before the massive twin stone doors that mark the Varistha's former chambers. The friendlier of the two guards steps forward and pushes the door open for you, while the other takes up position standing to one side. You quickly pass through.

You find Kadir sitting at the Varistha's desk, absentmindedly reading through a collection of letters. You're not sure if they're his, or the Varistha's. Regardless he seems quite engrossed. You clear your throat to get his attention, and he finally deigns to take notice of you. He flippantly waves a hand in your direction. “Yes, yes. I'll get to you in a moment.” With that, he falls silent once more.

>Tell him he'll get to you now; you didn't come here to be disrespected.
>Wait patiently, you're not exactly pressed for time and he IS the Shah.
>Take a look around the room, the last time you were in here you didn't really get the opportunity.

You don't complain, instead take a brief wander around the room. Much of it is constructed from ice, seemingly frozen permanently, as it shows no sign of melting any time soon. Even after the Varistha's death. Perhaps an old enchantment from ages long past? Even the furniture is wrought ornately from ice, the detail on his desk depicting scenes of old battles exquisitely done in shades of blue and white. There are also a wide variety of sculptures scattered about the room, most of them bust. Presumably of previous Varisthas. You find Sehzade's against the farthest wall, or at least you think it's Sehzade's. There's no label, and the man depicted has only the barest wisp of a beard. However, it certainly shares the Varistha's facial features.

Oddly enough, the room isn't the slightest bit cold, a tad warm for your taste if anything. You're not sure if that's an enchantment or not, as you seem to recall something about ice keeping in heat particularly well. You don't remember exactly, as it was never particularly relevant for a desert dweller.

You're inspecting the elaborate decoration on one of the elaborate post protruding from the end of the Varistha's bed, the head of depicting a seven-headed beast with large fins running down each of its long necks. A hydra, you imagine. Its maws are spread wide, and their teeth appear sharp enough to cut. You can't help but wonder if perhaps Sehzade carved this himself, to commemorate his achievement of Grandmastery.

The chest that once sat at the foot of the bed is gone, stored within your cloak. Thankfully, the Shah, or Padishah as he'd prefer, hasn't noticed. At least you don't think he's noticed. He was quite deep within his cups when you first encountered him here.

You spare a glance towards Kadir, and try to get a pick over his shoulder at his letters. You think you can see some sort of official symbol in the corner, but Kadir folds the letter before you can get a good look and sets it aside. You hastily return to your inspection of the bedpost, just as Kadir claps his hands together enthusiastically and pushes himself from his chair.

“Right then!” He exclaims, turning to face you. “What shall we do about you, then? Hmm? I can't exactly unbanish you.” You feel a black rage boiling up from your gut, but his one does not seem supernaturally influenced as others have. You bite your tongue hard enough to draw blood to keep yourself from speaking out as the Shah continues. “However, you certainly deserve some sort of reward. I might wipe your name from the records, or declare you dead.” He rubs his chin contemplatively, staring at you a moment.

He snaps his fingers. “I've got it.” You've got a bad feeling about this. “How would you feel about performing a task for me? Should you prove your worth, I believe I ought to be able to spin your return to society's good graces without lessening my own standing.”

>That's some bullshit, you saved his life! One of your people's most famous tales recalls the unbanishment of a guard who sacrificed himself to save the Shahanshah.
>You're willing to hear out his proposal, though you make no promises.

You sigh wearily, rubbing your eyes for a moment. Another job? You've got an assassination on the horizon to finally free Chrys of the burden that is her husband. You've got a mysterious red gem to retrieve from a powerful warlord in Elven lands. You've got an ancient recipe to retrieve from the deepest depths of the most dangerous stretch of land known to existence. That's not even mentioning the multitude of effects, both normal and metamagic, that you've yet to learn but need to. The elements you need to further your understanding in.

You shake your head to banish such gloomy thoughts, choosing to instead focus on the positives. Perhaps an opportunity to get back your old life, or at least the option to one day return to a life resembling normalcy, should you at some point choose to. “Very well, Sha-”

He interrupts you firmly. “Padishah, I've taken the title Padishah and I intend to be addressed as such.”

You scowl. “Very well, Padishah-” Your voice drips with derision as you speak the word. “-Oh ye who've yet to accomplish anything of note save manage to avoid death. I will hear out your proposal, though I cannot imagine what is more worthy of unbanishment than saving your life. I make no promise of accepting the task you offer me.”

(1/2)
>>
Beastmen when? What kind? Anything as crazy looking as that?
>>
The Shah, Padishah, grins cockily. You'd really like nothing more than to smash his teeth in, but you resist the urge. “I would have you find out just what it is that caused my brief voyage to the land beyond. I have no doubt it was caused by some unnatural source, I am hale and healthy. There is no reason for me to pass away so suddenly. Considering how recently my father passed away and the circumstances of his death, I'm lead to suspect foul play.”

>Accept, after all who better to track down his killer than his killer?

>Reveal fully your role in his death, and the circumstances which led you to fill that role. Including the various creatures of the void with which you've contract.

You pause for a moment to think, a grin slowly splitting your face. You contain yourself well enough, and begin to explain your suspicions calmly and succinctly. “Whilst exploring the pirate base, before I destroyed it in one giant blast and eliminated any threat the pirates posed to the realm you understand-” You pause, staring at him pointedly before continuing. He seems nonplussed. Dick. “-I overheard what appeared to be a high ranking pirate discussing with another I believe to be the Captain the death of your father.”

That gets his interest. His entire posture seems to shift, his body tensing and his eyes growing wide. You'd call him desperate. Regardless, you continue. “They mentioned that the Shahzada, that is to say you, were nowhere to be found in the wreckage of your destroyed navy; great job on that by the way.” He opens his mouth to protest but you press onwards. “They said that their client would want the Shah and the Shahzada killed, they'd need both you and your father dead to complete the contract offered them.”

You pause, more for dramatic effect than anything else. “Who would have the most to gain from such an agreement? Why, your dearest sister of course. The radical ideologue. The cold, unfriendly woman that she is-”

The Shah scrunches his brow together. “Hold a moment, she might be acting strangely lately but I'd hardly describe her as cold. Simply reclusive. I've assumed she's hard at work on some task or another, you know she's always working on something or other.”

You shrug your shoulders nonchalantly. “When I encountered her on my way out of the Royal Palace a number of days ago-” The shock on his face is simply wonderful. “-she acknowledged my companion in the garb of a guard captain but completely ignored the rest of us, not only that she looked as if fresh from battle. I would describe her as cold. Regardless, my point is I would not put kinslaying past her, if it would bring her closer to accomplishing her goal of a land free from slavery.”

The Shah seems unconvinced, downright skeptical really. “While my sister is a woman of... strong opinions, I do not think she would go so far as killing my father and myself in order to achieve them. Your evidence is circumstantial at best, and I see no way for her to reach me here, in this temple, in the middle of the day, with two of my guards outside of the door. Without anyone seeing a soul entering or leaving the area.”

His sister might not be properly motivating him.
>>
You hold up your hand, asking for a moment's patience. “Allow me to explain, Padishah. I urge you to send your men around the temple and have them ask about a moving shadow.” The Shah looks skeptical, but you persist. “There is a little known ritual, the method lost to the ages, that allows one to barter their soul away in exchange for the death of single target. In this case, you. I suspect your sister contracted the pirates to kill your father and contracted a creature from the void to kill you should you survive the naval battle.”

You cut him off before he can interrupt. “Think for a moment, who else would know where your father's vessel would be? Your family, a few select nobles. I can think of none of the Shahdom's enemies capable of pulling off a feat such as this; certainly not the Samraat, and I can think of no reason for one of the successor states to our north to attempt such a feat.”

He still doesn't seem convinced, so you channel vys throughout yourself. You draw yourself up to your full height, square your shoulders, and generally attempt to give yourself a more commanding presence. You adopt an urging, concerned tone when next you speak. “Please, my Padishah, simply send your men to ask around the temple. When they return with news of a living shadow you'll have your proof.”

With a weary sigh, the Shah relents. He strides past you to the door and pokes his head outside, addressing one of the guards. You hear him give orders to make a circuitous route around the temple and ask all they see about any sightings of a 'living shadow' or a creature which might fit that description.
(1/3 or 4)
>>
>>36027880
Still gonna spit in her hair.
An eye for an eye
>>
As he returns, he poses a question. “Just how did you discover this ancient, lost ritual? It seems the barter of souls to spirits would be a tricky matter, prone to loopholes. Much like the one I would be enjoying the benefits of, if what you say is true. The creature killed me, and you brought me back. Assuming it does not return to finish the job then I've gotten away without harm, more or less.”

You wince, running your fingers briefly through your hair before launching into an embarrassed explanation. Your seeming discomfort sells the lie perfectly. “I spent several weeks- or was it a month? Deep within a Rhynian mine. Hundreds of feet below the surface I discovered a shrine, and was forced by a spirit to retrieve it a powerful artifact for it to consume. At which point it granted me a boon of knowledge, knowledge regarding rituals such as this.” You're quick to clarify. “Completely against my will, mind you. I much would've preferred, say, a rare metamagic or knowledge of enchanting. I have no use for the vast majority of these rituals, and lack the materials or the will to carry out a single one.”

You pause, letting that sink in for a moment. “However, your sister... a woman of her dedication to the cause, a woman of her means. The Shahzadi could attain anything she desired, even the rare components necessary to cast such a ritual.” To further sell your tale, illusory figures manifest around the room, acting out a number of strange acts. One sacrifices a woman, another has its heart ripped out by a clawed figure, a third dances nude around a sapling. All of them completely fictional, but the effect seems sufficient to cow the Shah.

>>
The soldiers return, one of them knocking on the door. The Shah cast you a nervous glance before making his way to the twin stone doors, pushing one open and poking his head through. You hear a muttered conversation, and after a time he closes the door. You couldn't pick out much of anything, substance wise. A few snatches of words here and there. He returns, but does not face you, rather he begins pacing the room. You think he might feel a tad panicked.

“Several of the older, more powerful Nature Vatis reported seeing such a thing, but attributing it to something they merely referred to as a 'Disturbance in the Fabric'. If what you say is true-” He pauses, swallowing uncomfortably. You think he's having trouble admitting his fault. “-And I must admit, it very well might be. Then I'll need to have my sister executed.”

He pales at the thought. Well, he pales as much as a Samjan can pale. He's fairly light skinned for one of your people, so it's more noticeable than it might usually be. He clears his throat and stills his pacing, taking a moment to compose himself before continuing. “You've given me much to think about, I thank you.” He grits his teeth for a moment, but lets out a held breath and calms himself. “If you've a request to make of me, make it. I'll attempt to fulfill it if doing so is reasonable. I owe you as much for the lead you've provided. I honestly was expecting, and hoped for, less.”

>Request he formally revoke your Banishment, you want a ceremony.

the device cleans the minds of all corruption, so insanity would get reset to 0, as for the ring it has the same affect, but prolonged.
Here is hoping it doesn't mind wipe us or removes the knowledge we gained from the spirits.
>>
Wht does this quest fill me with such anxiety? I am pretty sure that Kadir's sister was actually the master mind behind trying to kill the Shah and her brother, and yet I fell like we are just digging our selves into a hole. Saying we have knowledge of ancient void assassination rituals to a guy who just got nearly killed seems really dumb in the long term.

Though I will say there is some poeticism in being unbanished thanks to a lie when our original punishment was the result of telling the truth.
>>
Let's have a vote on whether to ask for something extra or not.

Why? So we can get better at enchanting? I'd rather we don't go insane, wear it 24/7 And Learn real enchanting that doesn't require us to go insane. There are ways to get just as much of a bonus as insanity but we have to actually figure it out.

Thats all based on being crazy.
How does being crazy increase our fighting?
How does it give us a better understanding of "crazy shit" when has this happend?
We need to be crazy to see the void? This last one, makes no sense. The void isn't something that just appears to the insane. It is something that exists.
The other points, I'm genuinely interested in how you believe them to be so?

>>
>>36028599

It allows us to not be fazed by the unexpected and to see beings of the void and their influence.

It seems to help us be calm when in normal situations a person would be freaking out.
>We need to be crazy to see the void? This last one, makes no sense. The void isn't something that just appears to the insane. It is something that exists.
I was mainly talking about the spirits and beings that are in this realm.
>The other points, I'm genuinely interested in how you believe them to be so?
In the mine we were attacked by a void creature and it is safe to assume that since soma has set a precedence for them being able to attack us even, i wouldn't be surprised if we run into more of them.

This is literally unprecedented in modern history, so there is no formal ceremony. This is basically going to be made up as shit goes along. In the case of say, a victorious general returning from the Eastern Front with riches, slaves, and territory they'd receive a shiny medal and various other honors, and then be gifted large tracks of land and a significant number of slaves to work it. You might receive similar compensation for the trials you faced, or it may be like "Being unbanished is reward enough" or something. Depends on how things go.

>>36028930
Yeah, that's why I said it's stupid
>>36028938
My wrist and fingers are fucked up from playing goalkeeper last night.
>>36028964
Why would we do that, we can do it ourselves, and we need to inspect and memorize all the runes on them anyway. Ricky can deal with orgamization. Just put our cape on the ground inside-up, have him push shit out, work on it, let it sink back into the cloak, repeat.
>>
>>36029036
We're expecting at least some of it to be time skips.

Also prewriting is a thing
>>
>>36029050
Just faff off it love.
>>
>>36029050
I hadn't intended on it. You can push your luck if you'd like.
>>
>>36029081
i would
>>
>>36029081
Fuck no
>>
>>36029075
Maybe, but I kinda doubt we are going to get to power level to the extent people are hoping for.

>>36029081
No.

Does it have a chance to backfire and ruin our getting unbanished? Because if it does then no but if that's not an issue then let's haggle.
>>
>>36029081
No.
>>
>>36029081
No, I'm good
>>
>>36029075
Speak for yourself, I want to play through everything and don't want timeskips.
>>
>>36029081
By the succulent tits of Pani, FUCKING NO.
>>
>>36029081
roll for haggle.
>>
>>36029081
Nope
>>
>>36029075
Everytime we talk about timeskips everyone says no. We have pretty much played every single day so far excluding when we are unconscious for 80 threads.
>>
>>36029115
I want that too, but it's a tad unreasonable.

Prewriting is best solution, but Soma is a busy man.
>>
>>36029116
How well endowed is Pani anyways?
>>
>>36029081
If it's an actual dice roll? Yes.
>>
>>36029066
>Why would we do that, we can do it ourselves
because it wastes a shit ton of time. We could have fulvia working on. and Prof might as well be useful some how.
>>
>>36029129
The actual image I use for Pani is >>36027112

Anyway, seems like the "No"s take it.

We better steal that armor.
I want that armor
>>
>>36027112
Yeah, at least a C, maybe a D.
>>
>>36029242
Shh, anon. We know what you want. Just keep in mind, other people want things too. And they've also been patient for their wants, so the least you could repay them for such is through equal measures.
>>
>>36029258
>that
>D
>>
>>36029174
What would they know about it?
Did you even read my post, I've said outright that it isn't wasting time because we'd need to personally go through each one to find out what they do and learn runes anyway.
e.g. we don't know what our rhynian armor does with nature magic, or what our hiacian armor does with the elements
>>
>>36029242
You can't always get what you want, anon.
>>
>>36029269
We're gonna git gud.

We've been planning this since fucking thread 15
>>
>>36029299
Ah such find memories...
>>
>>36029232
I would have agreed with you but it would seem that our lord and master seems to think big titted goddesses are a bit gauche.
>>
>>36029242

plebe
>>
>>36029299
Aye, that's whom I'm referring to (which is also me) being really fucking patient to get to the water temple and even more patient through all this fucked up shit to finally get back to the primary reason we came here in the first place. With the utmost god fucking damned patience.
>>
>>36029291
But if you try sometimes
>>
>>36029327
That's a long term thing anon.

Like the Airship

No, that's stupid.
Eludian steel all the way.

I bet you didn't even play all the games.
>>
>>36029508
No, why would I? I have good taste
>>
>>36029508
Ubisoft are hacks, and ever since ass 3 i haven't touched a game they made.
>>
>>36029508
Course not. I have better games to play. Not even hipster games either.
>>
>>36029527
4 was the best one though and I didn't even like pirates before I played it
>>
>>36029543
It felt like a pirate game instead of an assassin's creed game.

I still had fun with it though
>>
>>36029543
Everything about the game that involved assassins was shit though, they should've just made a pirate game.
>>
>>36029559
>>36029568
That's why it was good, the assassin story was always shit. The templars were forced disney evil since half of their goals made more sense than the assassin ones.
>>
>>36029442
By organic I meant Eludian steel that flows and shifts like how Darzi's did but more, so it can come out of or cloak and surround us in armor on it mown, only cover specific parts, and jump/come to us like the Iron-man suit and to only have wings when we want to. Might even splinter off some of our mind to handle fine-tuning shit.
>>
>>36029508
I played the first 2 games and after that I decided that I didn't like them.
