You came here to help your sister, or double, or whatever she’s calling herself. She had to know where her powers came from, and it’s better that you tell her than a stranger, or someone who wants to hurt her.

She didn’t take it well and tried to hurt you, or maybe turn you into her slave; but she didn’t seem serious about it, more like she was angry, angry at you, angry at the world, just angry.

So you tried to show her the mistakes she’d made, the people her anger had hurt, but something went wrong; and she transformed into a blue-skinned demon.

At the same time an apparition of the Lord of Life (or one of his heads at least) showed up. It’s looming over you.

Your (naked, blue-skinned demon) double is with you, as is Sofia’s double, wearing orc armour. Despite them not being very friendly with you, you have a common enemy – perhaps they’ll follow your lead.

What should you do?

You don’t trust anything this monster is going to say or do, so it’s best to end this quickly. You draw upon your arcane powers and release them just as it looks as though it’s about to say something.

The illusionary head disappears, scattered by your spell.

Your double looks over at you approvingly “Nice” she says “quick, decisive, none of this talking to monsters horseshit.”

“Well” you say “There are limits”.

“So” she says “Now we have a common foe – how are we going to fight It?”

You shake your head “First things first” you say “Salvastis is the more immediate threat, I’m going to rescue my mother and do what I can about Him first, after that I’ll figure out what to do about the Lord of Life.”

“Yeah” says the other Sofia, nodding “About that, when are going?”

“Soon” you say, though it could be as much as a year yet, you don’t tell them that, there’s not telling how much you can trust them, common enemy or no.

“And what’s your plan?” asks Sofia.

“Still considering it” you reply.

Now she looks at you, an intense look you can’t quite figure out “Who is going with you?” She asks quietly.

Eating at the moment, anons should take this opportunity to mention any particular things they want.

Also, answer these questions.

>Are you planning on being loud and obvious immediately upon going to Hell, or more subtle?

>Are you okay with the expenditure of any amount of Deific Power to boost our angelic abilities before visiting Hell? If so, how much?

I worry about using too much DP before going to hell due to its possible usefulness in combat. Maybe... half of it?
>>
>>36019277
How much Deific Power do we actually have right now?

It says 25 on the sheet, but I'm fairly certain that isn't accurate at this point.

>Are you okay with the expenditure of any amount of Deific Power to boost our angelic abilities before visiting Hell? If so, how much?

Most of it, keep a small reserve. Like 10 or so, for emergencies, which should be numerous in Hell.

Also, I don't know if ti's possible or not, but sneaking into hell and then opening a gate to call for angelic reinforcements if/when needed.
>>
>>36019439
DP can be exchange for Angelic XP at a 1-10 ratio, that's what I was referring to.

“I haven’t decided yet” you say to Sofia honestly “I’ve discussed it with a few of my allies, but not many, and I’m not sure if they’ll follow, or if I even have a right to ask them.”

“They’ll follow” says your blue-skinned double, apparently unbothered by her nudity “If there’s one thing we’re both good at, it’s getting people to follow us.”

“Yeah” says Sofia, punching you lightly in the shoulder “give the order, and everyone will follow you into Hell.”

“But will they follow me back out again?” you ask glumly.

“Quit moping” your double says, folding her arms “tell them the risks and let them make the choice.”

“Oh” you say, your voice rising a little “ok then” you turn to face them “Sofia, Sireyi, will you follow me into a place of darkness and death and damnation for no other reason than I want to rescue my mother?”

Your double rolls her eyes at you “A little less dramatically than that” she says “maybe talk to Isla about what you’ll encounter – Velya too.”

Sofia has gone quiet, her eyes closed.

“You ok Sofia?” you ask

“Will you...will you be taking...Sofia?” she asks “Her I mean” she opens her eyes and looks at you, her face pale “The one in the castle, Mili’s mother?”

“I don’t know” you say “her abilities would be useful, but anyone with divine magic in Hell could be noticed.”

She appears to struggle and then says “If you decide to take her, I want you to take me, instead of her.”

You double looks at her suspiciously.

It's difficult to say for certain, but I'd be very tempted to use the XP to grab Apotheosis and Soul of Light 5 immediately, because it's so powerful.

If not that, then probably maxing out the boosting peripherals, grabbing some more Angel's Lantern peripherals, Seraphic Dragon, some of the storm peripherals, Angelic Sight and it's peripherals, etc.

Done with my meal, so I'll get to work on figuring out what to do with the XP.

You turn that idea over in your head “Sure” you say “But why, I mean, if your abilities are going to important to whatever plan I go with, why not take both of you?”

She takes a deep breath, looks down, let’s it out and then looks at you “Because if she dies in there, Mili has to grow up without a mother, if I die then Mili won’t have to wonder why her mother isn’t coming home.”

“Sofia...” you say, reaching out a hand towards her, your double gets there first, grabbing her by both shoulders and shaking her a little “NO!” she says firmly “you are not going anywhere with a death wish, you understand me? I will tie you to your damned bed if I have to!”

“It’s my choice to make!” says Sofia angrily “You might not care about our children anymore, but I do!”

Your double leans back as if she’s been slapped “I care” she says quietly “I care more than I can ever say, but I care about you too.”

Both of them are ignoring you.

As the two of them seem to be trying to stare each other down you cough, and they both start, and look at you.

“Yes?” says your still nude twin, raising an eyebrow at you, her hands still on Sofia’s shoulders.

“There’s no reason for you to fight” you say “Sofia, you shouldn’t come with if you think you’re going to die, or if you feel guilty or unhappy and feel you deserve to die.”

Sofia screws up her face and looks away, muttering under her breath, but nods.

“And Sireyi” you say “Sofia is her own person and can make her own choices, you say you love her, do you want to keep her in a cage her whole life?”

“The thought had occurred” she grumbles; in response to your enquiring look she throws up her hands and turn away “Ok, fine, yes, Sofia can go wherever she wants, who am I to stop her? I’m just in love with her, lock me in chains for caring.”

“Well then” you say, an angelic smile on your face, “If you both agree, there’s nothing to fight about.”

The two of them look at you, then each other, then burst out laughing and hug one another. Your double whispers something in Sofia’s ear and she giggles and nods, saying “Yup, you do, all the time.”

“Y’know” you say, pretending you didn’t hear your double ask *do I really sound that pompous?* “There is a way you could look after Sofia, whilst still letting her do what she wants.”

Your double looks at you “Don’t say it” she warns.

“You could both come” you say.

She screws up her eyes “Dammit!” she says “why did you...alright” she gives you a hard look, her arms still wrapped around Sofia “I’m not going to Hell, I’m not going to help you rescue *your*” she emphasises the word “Mother, I am not going to let her stand in judgeme- I mean, I’m not going, ok?”

“Please come with” you say to your double “your abilities and powers could make a difference.”

“No” she says, looking away “The Lord of Life could attack at any time” she says “and even if he doesn’t, I still have a long way to go in uniting the Tribal Lands.”

Well, you’ve heard weaker excuses....

“Why do you think *our*” you place a slight stress on the word “mother would judge you?”

She hugs Sofia tighter, as if seeking comfort from her embrace, Sofia gives you a warning look.

“Look at me” says your double “how could she not judge me?”

“I could turn you back” you offer “I’m not sure why you became a demon, but I could try reversing it – no strings attached.”

Your double looks conflicted and says “I need to think about it, anyway” she adds “Look at what I did before – I created a person just so I wasn’t alone, I made a thinking being just for my own selfish desires.”

Sofia kisses her on the cheek and whispers to her “don’t apologise for that.”

“And” you double continues, after smiling fondly at Sofia “I enslaved people – people close to you” she says “though I let them go. And the black dragon Xerfinzes is still under my control.”

“We all make mistakes” you say “I’m not proud of every decision I ever made.”

“Well I am a walking mistake!” snaps your double “A fake angel created by a monster to torment you – do you have any idea what I would have done to Isla when we first me, if I had won?!”

“But you didn’t” you point out “And I don’t think our mother would turn you away because of any of that.”

“We’ll see” says your double, apparently not convinced, she breaks the hug with Sofia “besides, I really do have a lot on my plate with the orcs and beastmen, so far it’s just been small tribes, but sooner or later I will be fighting those ruled by demons and dragons and dark gods, then we’ll really find out how tough I am.”
>>
“Well” you say “If you’re dead set on staying, perhaps you could do me a favour?”

“Like what?” she asks, seemingly surprised you’d ask.

“Look after my realm whilst I’m away” you say “On a temporary basis of course.”

She takes a step back “You’d trust me with that?” she asks, almost a whisper

“I’m willing to give you a chance” you say “you deserve it.”

She looks down at the ground and then up at you “Ok” she says “As long as everyone else is ok with it.” You know she doesn’t mean the king and barons: you’ll need to make sure Sofia, Jal and Isla are ok with it.

“Anyway” she says dismissively “Until you decide on a plan for Hell, this is all speculative, was there anything else you wanted to discuss?”

“Just you and me” you say “anything goes” you give her a critical look “but put some clothes on, please, I don’t want to have to explain to Jal why I agreed to wrestle my twin naked.”

You double gives you a flat look as Sofia snorts in amusement; casting a spell to teleport away, your double disappears. You note that she can’t cast that as fast as you can.

Whilst she’s fetching clothes you talk to Sofia “So how are things going, really?” you ask.

She shrugs “well enough I suppose, orcs aren’t so bad once you get used to the smell, beastmen don’t believe females are good for anything except, y’know, but they have learned to respect us both the hard way.”

“And you” you ask “Are you happy?”

Sofia hugs herself “honestly?” she says “Not really – oh don’t get me wrong, your sister is being as helpful as she can but...I miss Jal, I miss Vivi and Mili, I miss...me.”

“I’m working on that” you say laying a hand on her should “I don’t think it’s fair that you can’t see them, but I’ll need to speak to everyone first, and” you add in a lighter tone “how do you think Jal will react when she sees two Sofia’s?”

Sofia laughs “Yeah” she says “you should bet her that she has to do the castle laundry for a month if you can shock her, she’d go for that.”

“Or” she adds, warming to the topic “that if you can make her blush, she has to-”

“Well” says your double, popping back “Are we doing this, or what?”

She’s dressed in heavy black armour that makes her look bulkier than you, and more intimidating.

“Sofia” you say, turning to face your double “If you’d do us the honour of judging.”

“Sure” she says, stepping back to give you some room “no flying away so far I can’t see you – and if I tell you to stop, you stop.”

You consider using antimagic against her before settling on spell-turning. If she wants to start off with magic, that’s just fine by you.

You cast your spell and a near-invisible sheen surrounds you. She finishes hers and a spray of multi-hued light shots from her hands and dances around you, before being reflected back at her. She curses and tries to dive out of the way but one bean of light hits her and her armour heats and deforms under its touch as she grunts in pain.

As your double prepares what you think is some sort of area effect spell you cast your own, stepping through a doorway created by your spell to appear behind her.

As you do explosive fireballs cascade from her hands, tearing up the ground you were standing on, as well as quite a large area around that.

Sofia yells in outrage and dives behind a boulder – that is later blackened and cracked by a fireball.

As your double waits and tries to figure out if she got you, you slam the butt of your halberd into the back of her head; she drops halfway to the ground before catching herself and flying away from you, coming back around to retaliate, a snarl on her face and lightning dancing on her hands.

“Game over!” yells Sofia “Game over! Burning the referee is disqualification – whichever one of you cast the *blow everything up* spell just lost!”

“Your match” says your double, conceding with a frown on her face “seems I have a few things to practise.” She glides past you, turning her head as if trying to find you.

You cast your own spell, restoring her vision, she turns to face you “remember” you say “don’t neglect your defences, as tough as you are, you’re not invulnerable, and” you add “stop making your spells so obvious – get used to casting a few of them quickly”.

“Right” she says with a nod, the two of you descending.

On the ground, Sofia is waiting, an unhappy look on her face “You” she says, grabbing your duplicate by the arm “are crazy, what were you thinking...”

As Sofia berates your double, that seems like your cue to leave. You give them a few minutes and then make your goodbyes, arranging to check in with them regularly.

Back at your keep, you have a lot to think about, and a lot to do. You said you’d talk to Sofia, Jal and Isla about your double and the other Sofia seeing the children. So anons, I was thinking. Perhaps we could refer to Duplicate Sireyi as Direyi. I'm thinking we simply treat her, in character, as a twin to us and just have slightly different names.
>>
>>36023706
Alternates could of course be some sort of variation of Sireyi's name.
>Sireyu
>Sireya
>Dirayi
etc, etc.

I feel that giving her an entirely new name rejects the fact that she IS us, and as such rejects her. We should treat her as a sister, a true sister, rather than some completely new entity.
>>
>>36023706
I see no particular problem in refering to her as Sireyi. And make a appropriate clarification if needed.
In-story, I would advocate just using whatever name she prefers, which is currently Sireyi.

Rolled 2 (1d2)

You promised your double and the other Sofia you’d talk to your family about them being able to see the kids.

You gather Sofia, Isla and Jal together and explain what happened to you, as well as how much your double and the other Sofia miss everything; and the kids in particular.

“So” you conclude “I said I’d talk to you - to see if you were ok with them seeing Mili and Vivi, I know it would mean a lot to them and I can’t help but feel that this could really help keep them on the right path, but I won’t force the issue.”

You look around.

“Uh uh” says Isla emphatically, folding her arms and shaking her head “no way, that thing is dangerous and shouldn’t be allowed near the children at all.”

Sofia looks at Isla curiously before giving her response “How would this work?” she asks.

“I was thinking supervised visits” you say, “with us there, maybe the angels too, I wasn’t planning on just letting them come and take Mili and Vivi.”

Jal shrugs “Don’t see the problem” she says “this girl and her friend are just you an Sof with a new lick o’paint, I trusts ya with me sprog, so I dun see a reason she’d half-inch ‘em.”

“How can you say that?!” demands Isla, turning on Jal “That monster is evil! Are you blind?”

“Hey now” says Sofia, as Jal retorts “Not *yer* kid Isla.”

The thing with Static fist is that it scales with our willpower, and we have a lot of stuff that can increase that, especially with the new angelic form.

“Now now” you interject, interrupting before things can get too heated “There’s no reason for any arguments with each other, Jal” you say “If we’re all going to be together, Isla should have a chance to be heard, even if they’re not her kids” to Isla you add “Isla, whatever your problems with my double, don’t take it out on Jal, it’s not her fault.”

They both look a little shame-faced, Isla apologises first “Sorry Jal” she says “I guess I don’t think so clearly when she’s involved.” She gives Jal a quick hug “Forgive me?”

“Yeah” says Jal, returning the hug “I know you’re just looking out fer the lil’ tyke, no ‘ard feelings.”

“Well I think that settles it” says Sofia, looking at both of them “limited visits with supervision to start, after that, we’ll see?”

“Best girl is right” says Jal “playtime wi’ chappy-roans yeah”

“Ok” says Isla “I guess Jal’s right” she adds “Vivi isn’t my kid.” She gives you a meaningful look that Jal picks up on.

Sofia rolls her eyes and Isla blushes as Jal rubs a hand across Isla’s stomach “What you two haven’t even started yet” she winks at you “Don’t sound like yer Sireyi, yer usually work faster than this.”

“You can’t fluster me that easily Jal” you say, as your cheeks begin to warm.

“Oh yeah?” says Jal, embracing Isla from behind, her hands playing up and down Isla’s front as Sofia looks on in amusement and Isla blushes fiercely “Seem ter me it was just this morning Isla was playing wi’ Vivi wi such a motherly look in her eyes, c’mon Isla” breathes Jal in her ear “Tell us you’d say *no* if Sireyi offered to let yer have a lil angel of yer own right now – I mean sure it takes ‘alf the fun out of it, but plenty of time ter make up for that” Jal begins to nibble on Isla’s ear as Isla’s face flames red and she closes her eyes, leaning back into Jal.

“Do you have to do that here” you say, the four of you in one of the keeps meeting rooms “I mean, you have a perfectly private bedroom” you scold Jal, keeping a grip on your blush, for now.

Jal just winks at you “’ere” she says “the bedroom, the stairs, tha battlements, lotsa places we can get tergetha later me luv, it’s yer keep after all, only right we get to explore the fortress just as thorough as we explore yer own gatehouse.”

Yeah ok, that’ll do it. Jal and Sofia leaving the room, both giggling, as Isla stands there nervously, looking at you. You take a deep breath, Jal always knows how to into you- you mean, get under your skin- you mean, Oh Velya!

What upset her earlier

“Isla” you say “when I was heading out to see my double earlier you seemed really upset, want to talk about it?”

“Yeah” says Isla, pinching the bridge of her nose and pushing her glasses up, “I just, I was seized by this fear that I’d never see you again if you went there, it was so strong like something had punched me in the gut. I don’t know where it came from but it disappeared minutes before you came back. I don’t know if it’s just nerves, or some effect of the tome I read or what.” She looks at you, a little embarrassed “Sorry if I freaked you out”

“It’s ok” you reassure her “a little fear is understandable – I mean, an apparition of the Lord of Life showed up and I scattered it as soon as I could...but if I hadn’t who knows what might have happened?”

“Yeah” says Isla nodding.

“And” you add, watching her carefully “That’s not even counting how my double could have taken the news I gave her” there you go, as soon as you mention your double, Isla tenses up.

“Right” she agrees “no telling.”

“About her” you ask gently “Why does she scare you so much Isla?”

Isla freezes, then relaxes, a little “That obvious huh?” she asks.

“Only to those who know you” you say.

Isla’s reply is a while in coming “The first thing she said to me” says Isla “was a threat to hurt me, and she sounded exactly like you...they say those closest to you are those that can hurt you the most. I’ve been having nightmares occasionally about...about being close to you” she blushes and then rushes on “only suddenly it’s her, and she starts hurting me.”

“Hey” you say, hugging her “I’m not her – you know that for sure because of the tattoos you created” you say “You’re a genius” you look down into her eyes as she stares up at you, looking vulnerable and desperately wanting reassurance “besides” you add “She is changing, she’s not what she was – she might have started out cruel, being created by the Lord of Life, but she’s becoming her own person.”
>>
“I guess” says Isla, hugging you back, as tightly as she can “I guess I could get over my fear of her, maybe, as long as I’m not alone with her.”

“We’ll work something out” you promise, as Isla lays her head on your shoulder.

“Speaking of working things out” you say, trying to sound casual “About what Jal said....” you leave it hanging.

Isla snorts “Jal says lots of things” she says “I seem to recall her asking if you wanted to have sex on the battlements.”

“Ah” you say, blushing, glad Isla can’t see your face “I mean specifically about children.”

Isla raises her head and looks you in the eyes “Can’t you guess?” she says, smiling as you blush.

“I wouldn’t want to be presumptuous” you say.

Isla giggles “Ok, Sireyi, I’ll make it plain: yes I want to have your child, more than one maybe, some day, I just worry if it’s the right time – Salvastis, the Lord of Life, there’s always going to be some crisis isn’t there?”

“We do live in turbulent times” you agree.

“So” says Isla, trailing a finger along your collarbone and avoiding eye-contact “What are your thoughts about us and children.”

“I think” you say carefully “That it’s your decision”.

Isla raises an eyebrow at you “Oh really?”

“Yes” you say.

“Why?” she asks

You sigh “Ok, here it is: I’m not the best parent” you say. As Isla opens her mouth to protest you clarify “Oh I love my children and I’d spend every spare moment with them, but as a paladin, and now a goddess, there will always be some crisis, some mission, some problem for me to fix, I simply won’t have the time to raise them properly, so I think children are your decision” you say “because you, and Sofia, and Jal, will be the ones doing most of the parenting.”

Isla nods “Ok, I can understand your reasons, so it’s up to me....”

“After we get married” you say, interrupting her train of thought, as Isla gives you a mulish look you say “yes, I know, Vivi and Mili, though I love them, were not planned. This mission into Hell is going to be risky for everyone. Would it be selfish of me to leave an unborn child behind when I head into hell?”

And on that note the thread ends.

Sorry about the short thread, but it’s 2am here.

You’ve all been great players; thank you for playing.

I leave you with the following topic for discussion: I intend to let players pick Duplicate Sireyi (and Sofia’s) abilities. Sireyi has 210XP to spend, Sofia half that.

What powers/abilities should an empress and her warlord pick up?

Yes we can. To 1 month.
I don't agree with Sireyi carrying the child though. But we can shorten it tremendously.
>>
>>36026284
Both are possible, or you could do what noble mothers often do and hire a wet nurse.
>>
>>36026175
Thanks for running Pally. Have a good night.

Considering the looming threat of the Lords of Life, I fear we will have to disappoint Isla, Sireyi can't afford that for a month. I don't even want to think what exposure to the kind of stuff they use could do to a unborn child.

>>36026418
We've gone quite a while without having to worry about the Lord of Life itself; it's not going to suddenly be on our doorstep.

We can definitely take a month off, we've done it before and consistently had the option to do so, it isn't going to fuck us over.
>>
>>36026344
I agree It's a risk we should avoid but I wanted to see what we would be saying no to. I don't like the odds of Sireyi going a month without a fight that the baby would be at risk in.
>>
>>36026495
We had interruptions several times actually. And the Lords of Life thing is going to become more urgent every day. A while ago they decided to release their super plaque, or whatever we decided on, once we leave hell, things are going to become busy, I'm not going to vote on something in the assumption the QM bends stuff our way and lets actions not have appropriate consequences. And taking us a month out of the fight, is a huge risk.
>>
great thread Pally! thanks for running!
>>
>>36026603
It's still nowhere near being an immediate problem, given that there's most of a continent in between us and it's not proceeding at an absurdly fast rate.

Hell doesn't automatically mean things are going to step up. If anything it means we'll get a breather after it.

He doesn't need to bend things our way.

We have our now-friendly sister, her perpetually-growing army and an entire host of angels to cover for us.

We don't need to do everything ourselves and we can afford to take a month off.

Don't forget that Hanandrirac is going to be trying to kill the mother of the child to prevent it from being born, no matter who it is.

There's a substantial chance Isla will die because of that if we're off doing things while she's carrying a child, so we'll probably need to take a month off anyway, assuming we're still operating in your universe, where anything Sireyi doesn't do herself is doomed to fail.
