Seriously this, the implications of instantaneous communication in medieval times are immense. The lords with such an ability or advisor would dominate the political and military landscape.

>In this, our thirteenth meeting of the Telepathic Order of Knights, I bring to attention Sir Archibald and Sir Remington's idea of using our enchanted helmets as a means to make money.
>It has been noted by many that this is an idea that would accrue a lot of resources for the Order, but the head paladins have decreed it an unfit use of our god's powers-

>"WHY AM I IMAGINING DICKS?"

>"2, 5, and 7. You're 9."

>"More detail maybe?"

>"So, story goes, way back when there were 12 knights who were sworn to defend their liege lord. They get distracted... 3 stop picturing that that was a lonely monk's embellishment and you know it, they all would have been strung up if they'd done that in the town square. Them and the goat."

> "Ugh... just... can we please get on with it?"

> "So the lord was killed and her grieving wife hired a witch to put a curse on the knights. The knights would hear each other's minds and the distraction would drive them all to madness until they learned the meaning of focus and duty."

> "That does not explain anything"

> "Turns out it is really really difficult to focus with 12 peoples minds talking at you, so all the original knights died before learning it. Now whenever someone dies the curse just picks up a new knight. And well, tag, you're it"

> *THUD* "OW!!"

> "What did I just fucking say about the horse? Come on 9, get it together."

Knights of the Clover. All members are united in hive minds, and can subdivide themselves into smaller or larger minds at will, either entering the Universal Forum, or forming smaller ones to discuss things.

The only rule, is that the incantation that links them, also disguises their voices, so none can hear from whom the words are spoken.

So basically its one half Anonymous, one half Young Justice.
>>
>>35986633

Love it.

Would work perfectly for a comedic, well meaning organization in the land. Constantly distracted from speaking telepathically with their comrades, I can imagine that speaking with one in person they might at first appear wise, taking their time to respond when in fact they are just trying to separate a potential quest from the old codger ordering lobster.
>>
>>35988716

They have a lot of fame behind them because of their reportedly heroic actions and adventuring, but new members are often confused when they join and find little more than constant argument over trivial matters.

The Red Knights try to copy the Knights of the Clover, believing themselves proper rivals, but can't get anything orderly and done right, or know what the hell they are doing in the first place.
The Knights of the Feathered Courier are constantly relaying information to one another, and passing the message on as a form of traveling criers. Though the information they disperse is normally redundant bullshit, but they believe in keeping the populace informed...on EVERYTHING.
The Chivalrous Order of the Book of Vanity tend to be a dying order whose original purpose is similar to the Feathered Couriers, but far more orderly and structured, yet more so revolved around more personal than public information. Sadly, they've become nothing more than messengers of beloved one's well being and art pieces, drowning in a sea of strict scripture,
The Order of White Knights is a young order that really doesn't understand anything beyond their perception of reality, which does not align with it. They tend to be rather collective of things they find among their travels though, a horde of show pieces and treasures can be found within their keep. Sadly, the sir knights themselves tend to be very self-righteous and enjoy pretending to commit the work of the local physician upon themselves to justify their obvious illusions

The dead knights sometimes come back, but it is traditional of them to become simple entertainers.
>>
>>35992072
Well, once your mind is linked up with 11 paragons of knightlyness, you're naturally obligated to join their order and become a knight if you weren't already. It's a self-perpetuating cycle, really.
>>
>>35992102
What happens if one of them is banished?
>>
>>35992102

Yeah, I thought about maybe they just kind of pick up everything they know about being a knight from being exposed to so much knightliness.
BUT THEN WHAT IF EVERY NOW AND THEN THEY PICK UP AN EVIL DUDE AND THEY CAN TRACK THEM DOWN AND DISPOSE OF THEM.

Alright, the known Knights of the Clover so far:

>Sir Archibald & Sir Remington
Not much known about them, save that they considered a knightly mail service.
>Sir Berring
Has many lewd thoughts, blames them on Sir Reginald.
>Sir Bathis
The hothead of the group, says what everyone's thinking.
>Sir Gertrude
A female Knight of the order, thus subject to lewd thoughts from the others.
>Sir Montisgard
Most subject to the emotions of the hivemind.
>Sir NotRealKnight
Fed up with constantly hearing the thoughts of is cohorts, he tries to do them in. Unfortunately, the hivemind means each knight knows his plans before they can work.
>Sir Olswic
The dead knight, his thoughts in the afterlife are still heard by the others. Still brags about how his sword is much better than theirs.

The ostensible leader of the group. Rumored to listen to emo bards.

I actually like this idea. Does this mean that the curse specifically chooses women when either "Sir Mary" or "Sir Gertrude" dies, and men otherwise?
>>
>>35992386

The most worthy in the area when they die, regardless of gender.
>>
>>35992394

That's a massive case of gender confusion if I've ever seen one.

Like Mordred and Alturia in Fate/Stay Knight, but both sides.
>>
>>35992372
Mary was a mistake on my part, but I think there should be at least two girls.

>>35992344
I think Olswic shouldn't count as a proper knight anymore.

Unless he's undead.

And Balon, the communicate-with-the-dead one.

>>35992386
I think it should generally choose according to sex, but mistakes happen.

>Good day to you sirs, I am Sir Anna, Knight of Archibald

>Erh, I come from a very far, far away land
>>
>>35992400
The fact that the personalities are sort of 'imprinted' on the hivemind means Olswic and Balon don't really fit anymore, since they're all technically dead knights.
>>35992400
Well, nothing wrong with using Sir Mary. How was it a mistake?
>>35992427
That'd be good if the person the Knight inhabits adds a bit of their conscious to the imprinted personality, in such a manner that the knights never notice.
>>
>>35992399
Not to mention that for the girls and the boys questioning your sexual orientation is inevitable with that many pervy voices in your head.

>>35992427
I was under the impression there's no usurpation, the other knights just treat you as the same person and you kind of go along with it.

>>35992415

>Rise, Sir Remington, Knight of the Anthill
>>
>>35992468
Fair enough, though there is certainly more than one 'Mary' out there.
>I was under the impression there's no usurpation, the other knights just treat you as the same person and you kind of go along with it.
It depends on how passive you want each knight's persona to be. If they're just told "You're Sir Remington", then they're Sir Remington in name only. With the other idea, they retain Remington's memories from all his past forms, as well as his personality and skills.
>>
>>35992487
Maybe the knights are not equal in how attuned they are with their persona?

Perhaps they can sort of choose how much "merging" happen if their will is strong enough?
>>
>>35992481
Makes more sense if they stay human, since the curse seems semi-intuitive in trying to retain the knights, and different species have different ways in which their brains work.
>>
I like the idea of less possession and more title inheritance.
>Anna the sheepherder wakes up with 10 old knights and another lady knight in her head
>"Ah! You must be the new Archibald!"
>"New what? What the fuck?"
>>
>>35992517
People said gertrude and mary so 2 lady knights.
>>
>>35992512
This.
That's also got a mild Eva vibe to it.
I dig it.
>>
>>35992526
Oh, you get what I mean.
But like, sure they might get some overflow of personality from their immediate predecessor, and there may be some "Oh she's just the new Archibald," initially, but then Sir Anna becomes a prominent part of the circle and they accept her personality more.
>>
Since Sir Olswic is out, there's 11 of 12 knights currently known.
>>35992556
>>35992536
>>35992512
If this is the case, we lose a lot of the humorous group antics as new personalities replace the existing ones ( >>35992344 ), which I'm rather fond of.

I like >>35992427, as the original personality still exists as the majority, just slowly incorporating aspects of its hosts.
>>
>the knights are reunited to bury the latest Sir Tremble, victim of an extremely painful illness
>"say what you will, I'm glad it's over"

>there's graves all over the country, the knights feel obligated to pay them due every time there's within vicinity
>entire armies have been slowed down for this
>whoever question it get punched
>>
>>35992606
That just seems so...static though.
>>
>>35992631
Less static as a whole, considering with each new host the archetype changes, but not so much as for the original to become irrelevant.

>Sir Montisgard inhabits a former bard.
>Sir Montisgard, you've never mentioned you were a fan of the theater!
>Of course I am, as I always have been! No greater past-time is there than the performing arts!
>You overemotional dandy, I'm in the middle of single combat!
>Apologies Sir Tremble, but there is never a wrong time for theater! Here, allow me to recall a tune that shall befit your current battle!
>No, damnit! Now that's going to be stuck in all our heads!
>>
>>35992677
>one tune gets in every knight's head
kek
>>
>>35992606
I don't see how >>35992512 and >>35992427 are incompatible.

The personality is mostly "persona", but it's possible for the host to accommodate things a little.

The knights just pretend it's the exact same person. I like >>35992677
>>
>>35992608
They should have a Mausoleum dedicated for each of the knights of twelve
>>
>>35992694
A bit impractical if they have to be all over the country and are constantly risking their lives.
>>
So the telepathic knights are now like Ace Rimmer or the Dead Pirate Roberts?

Do they transfer their consciousness when they die, or does it just happen that a new member joins the order?
>>
>>35992724
I imagine the consciousness hops immediately to someone appropriate not too far away and they have to search for the new host.
>>
When one is asleep, do the rest hear their dreams?
>>
>>35992724
Seems like the new member is essentially the same when they join. But the other 11 still associate the traits of 'Sir Remington' with that person, and as hiveminds tend to be the person associates those traits with themselves as well, making it a gradual but noticeable change with each new host. Any skills might have to be relearned, or they're just an intrinsic part of the Order.
>>
>>35992724
Sort of both. The title is just that, a title. But the collective memories of each knight exist within the others due to the nature of the telepathic hivemind.
So when a new person joins, they gain all the old one's memories, but not necessarily their skills or personality.

>>35992754
>Who the hell is thinking about my tits?!
>Sir Berring, is that you?
>...
>He's asleep, Sir Reginald
>Well make him dream about something else!
>We all know that's not how it works, Sir Tremble.
>>
>>35987005
> The meeting of the Telepathic Knight Order isn't a teleconference
>>
It'd be kinda neat if instead of a nearby person it happens to the next person born.

>god damn it Montisgard died
>he's always a fucking bed wetter
>I wish that asshole would have to raise me sometime but no he always has to go out in a blaze of glory
>>
I like the idea of retaining your original name and persona, the original names are titles. Also, they would get part of the originals personality, but not be overcome by then.
>>
>>35992803
I like the idea that the knights remain blissfully unaware of their own repeated deaths, and they simply wake up in a completely different body.
But obviously this doesn't work if one dies in front of the other.
>>
>>35992796
They can't tell who's thinking in most of these so meeting in person allows them to tell who's talking
>>
>>35992724
They're like the dread pirate Roberts. When one dies, someone new takes his place in the collective. Eventually, he assumes the title and the name. They remain themselves but are changed over time. The image of the knight identity is constantly projected from the other 11 minds. Treatment and expectations from the other 11 is related to the knight identity. A change of lifestyle into knighthood occurs. All these things change the new host by varying degrees, and eventually a comfortable place is found between the original self and the identity assumed.

Well, that's how I see it at least.
>>
>>35992827
They'd also hear the thinking of someone dying from a mortal wound pretty much
>>
>>35992298
Naeh.
Maybe when a slot is open communication is just up.
Or you just hear their dying thoughts on repeat, to encourage you to find a new one to take his place.
>>
>>35992838
That seems to be the general consensus at this point. At least that's sorted out, though.
>>
>whenever all the knights get killed at once, the kingdom is weakened and quick to fall
>12 clueless strangers wake up with panicked voices in their head
>they get chased away by fearful villagers
>they meet each other, can't get along
>generations later, the strangers adopt a strict discipline as a way of coping
>they eventually put their skills in the service of a cause, and adopt an official title
>the cycle continue

They've been everything, from the Twelve Corsairs to the Twelve Praetorians to the Many Shaman Brothers. But it always comes down to the same thing, eventually.

>>35992803
I think we should go with what gives the most options. So maybe one of the knights always reincarnate as a baby or young child.

Also, I like the idea of a renegade thirteen Knight just doing his thing and ignoring the voices. Nobody knows he exist and the Knights don't talk about it.
>>
After a long amount of time those knights, with all the experience of the precedent incarnations of the order, may become scary powerful
Those guys are basically 12 Knightsatz Haderach
>>
>>35992924
>Also, I like the idea of a renegade thirteen Knight just doing his thing and ignoring the voices. Nobody knows he exist and the Knights don't talk about it.
Boss encounter.
A couple of them attack him, but he knows their every move, while he guards his owns thoughts perfectly not to give anything away.
>>
>>35992929
Luckily, with >>35992838 they absorb the personality of the knight, but not really the skill and knowledge. So they don't become Uber Knight: Balon.

>>35992924
>>35992939
I'm not a fan of the idea myself, Sir NotARealKnight fills the 'antagonistic member' role better.
>>
>>35992929
I don't like them getting too experienced, which is why I think they should not gain too much of their predecessors' memories. It's more a matter of mannerisms and quirks.

Except for the one(s?) who can hear the dead the best, if we go with that.

>>

13 isn't the antagonist, the other 12 antagonize him/her. They've tried to pester 13 into joining, but he/she thinks the whole thing is ridiculous and wants no part of it.

>>
>>35992992
They ought to, if they don't already.
>>
>>35986711

Pretty much the same as 11 knights with a commander with head sets? Knights weren't the winning force on a battlefield, the commander was. Something born from the "Who thought that? It couldn't surely be me" mindset

Maybe NARK is nefarious and scheming, while #13 is just a loner and kind of a psycho, so the others are as embarrassed by him as he is by them?

>>35993054

>>
>>35993054
>>35993070
Just a mind that exists somewhere between the telepathy? On the telegraph lines, as it were?
>>
>>35993070
I imagine 13 as a normal guy that doesn't stand for such nonsense. He just lives in a small house somewhere and tries to have a quiet life.
>>
>>35993050
So, 13 doesn't want to join, and they can't read his thoughts...
What purpose does he serve, then? The Order would just ignore him if he's never been a member.

It could work, however, if '13' had previously been a loyal member of the order, but the current host didn't want to join.
That way, the knights would instinctively treat him as though he were a member against his better interests.
>>
>>35993080
13 starts out as just a scapegoat everyone blames stray thoughts on. Eventually it gets to the point where there is an actual idea of what kind of person 13 "is", to the point where people hypothetically thinking what 13 would think of something causes it to be voiced.
>>

Wait. So how does this work? Does the personality of the original Twelve get passed on through the iterations?

Or does a new knight get added to the Twelve when a member dies, and the minds of the dead simply stay with them in the Gestalt?
>>
>>35993183
>And Olswic as a ghost.

Fold this into the idea that there's always "one" knight who can hear the dead ones. Olswic was the first to die, and his inheritor could hear him.

>Olswic, what are your thoughts on this fine sword I've had crafted?
>M'lord, my name's not Olswic, it's Raffon.
>I bloody well know that, Sir, I'm addressing you so you might convey Sir Olswic's thoughts.
>Feh. He says his grandmum had a larger sword than that.
>>I MOST CERTAINLY DID NOT SAY THAT TELL HIM I DID NOT SAY THAT

>>35993302
The first one, to an extent. They retain their personality, but also incorporate that of the host.

I know what I'm going to have in my next campaign as a group of recurring NPCs now. I fucking love /tg/ sometimes.
>>
>>35993302
Here's my take:

The mindsharing ability and some basic quirks are passed immediately to the successor, but most of the "personality" comes from the knights treating the newbie as the exact same person and slowly transmitting the memories.

And I suppose the dead knights's spirits are somewhere in the unconscious, with Balon (as a living knight) and Olswic (as a "ghost") being the best at communicating between the two groups.

Alright /tg/, how about this? A variant on the 12 knights, for the purposes of being used as the PC's enemies in a campaign.

>introduce supporting NPCs
>introduce 12 knights, who can wreck the PC's shit in
>PC's have to kill them one-by-one, and every time one is attacked, more come to his aid
>PC's have to rely on sneak attacks and fast DPR to get one down
>they return to town to find one of the supporting NPCs is now a knight who attacks them
>after they kill several of them over the course of the campaign (and keep running from the knights when they're in a group), the knights convene to discuss how to deal with the PC's/show up at a ball held in their honor or somesuch
>the curse is ended when the PC's can kill all 12 of them at once (within a few rounds of each other), so they drop a chandelier on them/drop the floor under them onto spikes/et cetera
>>
>>35994115
If they're foes, reduce the number to 7 or 4.
Some sort of Knight Zombie virus curse, heh.
>>
>>35994138
I like that, yeah. Good call. Way fewer, maybe 6 to match with the evilness.
>>
>>35994152
4,5 and 7 are for bad guys
2,3 and 6 (actually 5+1 antihero) are for good guys
>>
>>35994115
I had a boss fight with similar mechanics once. One knight was small and fast with low damage and high HP while the other was a slow, weak caster with crazy damage. The catch was that they only stay killed if the party could kill both of them within a certain number of rounds, otherwise the remaining knight would revive his ally.
>>
>>35994176
6 is the number of incompletion because it's one less than 7, the Hebrew number of divine completion (seven days in a week). If we're going for symbolism, 4 and 6 are evil, 7 and 12 are good.

Bathis should be either bright, bright red or a neutral grey. Gertrude has sky blue, Mary has a faint mauve-ish purple. Nark has dark brown, Montisgard has pink, Olswic is black. Remington is light green, Berring is dark green, Archibald is parchment-yellow/cream and Tremble is a much more saturated yellow.

Reginald has white or polished silver.

Oh lordy, imagine how awkward it would be if she fell HARD for one of the knights (they keep covered under wraps and armor of course, so no one knows they are undead)...
"Oh brave Sir Knight, let me look upon the visage of one who has fought so valiantly and won my heart so..."
"You know, I'm not sure you would like what you see..."
"Oh, but for one with such a shining heart, you must surely have a radiant brow, as well... At least a glimpse, Sir Knight--!"
"Uhh, I really don't think that's such a good--"
And then she just pushes his visor up, and then the comically overdone freakout while the King tries to get something sensible out of her, and all of the Knights are like "Well it's been real, but, uh, we're gonna just be going now!"

Or she has a thing for the undead/enjoys getting the B
