Welcome back to the world of MOTAQuest! You are Anai, and last time you were hurled through space and time like so many dirty clothes in a washing machine. You awoke in a new landscape and acquired ATLAS, a magical book that acts as your guide. Shortly after, you made your first friend; a Lion-Bear-Dog called a Wumpus that you named Sesmu. You climbed up onto his back and headed for the nearest city, Nolan, capitol of the Kingdom of Nolan.

You are an… adventurer? This is your story.

You finally hit the road, leaving the lake far behind you as you travel for nearly a full day. Atlas informs you that it is common for people to be ambushed by smalltime thieves and monsters while traveling, though it seems your impressive ride has caused them to think twice before disturbing your pleasant trek. As night falls you find yourself taking short naps, being awakened every now and then by Atlas to remind you to keep Sesmu on course. You start to wish he had a snooze function. Eventually Sesmu begins to tire, and stops to rest on the side of the road for a moment. The sun’s light is just beginning to shine over the horizon, indicating it is about an hour before dawn. In the distance towards town you spy a small guard post, a tower about fifty feet high, with smoke issuing from a window on the first floor. You wonder what they must be cooking, and your stomach growls at the thought. Sesmu mirrors the sentiment. You could probably go and ask them for food, it might take you fifteen minutes to reach it at a good pace.

>Sesmu is now FATIGUED, all physical stats and Stamina are -2
>You are HUNGRY, no penalty yet, but that won’t last long.

>Hope more people show up, figured a weekend was a fairly good timeslot to run.

You elect to stretch your legs a bit, and instruct Sesmu to sit, and stay. He complies. Surely, the tower guards will help a poor, starving girl and her dog...lion..bear.
As you draw closer to the tower, the wind changes direction and the smoke blows toward you. For a second you are greeted with the smell of something like pork, cooked to perfection. You always had liked bacon. Unfortunately, what follows makes the hair on the back of your neck stand on end, and your ears twitch to attention. Copper. The same thing you smelled when the rifts spat out the Atlas and the Inventory.

>Sneaky bastards all of you.

You take stock of the room, it is a small, warm room with a fireplace and a modest kitchen, and in fact there is a pot of stew cooking on the stove. Unfortunately, the smell of park is coming from the smoking bodies of two guardsmen, not even in their armor, reaching for the weapons rack in the corner. Sitting in a chair in the middle of the room, calmly sipping from a bowl of stew is a young, white haired man in a long dark coat, completely unfazed by the two bodies keeping him company. He seems oblivious to your presence. The smell of copper hangs off of him like a chain smoker’s aura. He is currently facing away from the window you are watching from.

Nope, that's it. You're done. He sees you. Get gone. You hop down off the crates and make a mad dash away from the tower, stomach growling in protest. Damn psychopaths ruining your stew adventures.

You run and run, panting heavily when you return to Sesmu, who is snoring rather loudly as you arrive. You nudge him awake and climb on his back. He seems reluctant to get moving. Try as you might the lumbering beast is tired and hungry, and in the time it takes you to get him moving you hear a howl over the hill in the direction of the tower. The sun is now just barely peeking over the horizon, so the hillside is covered in shadow. There, standing in the knee-high grass, is the same man in the black coat. In front of him are two large Hounds, made of blackened flesh and what looks like human bones. He smiles contentedly. "Found you~"

We're fast, he has no melee proficiency, and sesmu can take the hounds. Plus we have one more dodge if need be.

Still our backs to them and they are more or less just as fast. Asking for one of them to do a leaping bite, which we wouldn't see so we couldn't dodge it in time.
>>
The hounds continue their assault, but instead of dodging Sesmu lets the hounds latch onto one of his legs, and proceeds to rip one's freaking head off with his fangs. The lifeless mass drops to the ground, flesh dissolving into dust in the sunlight.

It finally dawns on the Necromancer that it is, in fact, dawn. And there's a crazed dog-woman charging at him with a knife. He reaches down and opens his book, a look of sincere fear on his face. "A-Atlas! Execute command, Home!"

And with that, a swirling blue rift opens over his head, and he is sucked through before your knife could spear him right through his black heart. The remaining hound lets out a whimper, and fades into dust and bones.

>End combat.
>Sesmu now at 2/4 HP, seems satisfied with himself.

You give Sesmu a reassuring pat on the head. "Good boy Sesmu, who just wrecked eldritch horrors, you did! You did! Let's go get food."

As you two walk you pull out the Atlas. "Good morning, Miss Anai, how may I help you today?"

"What the hell Atlas? There's more of you?! You can do things besides tell me where I am?"

The little projection in the book looks almost embarrassed.
“Yes, I suppose I should explain. You are not the only person issued an Atlas by my creator, the Moon Sage. Nor are you nearly the first. It appears that he has progressed enough to unlock some of my higher functions. Sorry for not warning you, I didn’t think we would encounter another Atlas-user before reaching the city.”

You run your hand through the small man.
"Please do not disrupt my projection, it is uncomfortable." he requests politely.

Atlas flips through his pages and stops on what looks like a list with several greyed out options, with the first one lit up in blue. “These are the commands which you can issue to me to perform various support functions. More will unlock as your power increases. For now, it seems that your recent brush with danger has elevated you to the second command; admirable progress for a first day on the job, so to speak.” Another set of runes begins to glow. Atlas continues, “These commands are universal among all of my copies, and any other holder you meet with sufficient power can use them. It is safe to assume when greatly wounded they will retreat using the HOME command. You also have this option. Simply state: ATLAS, Execute command, HOME.” You roll your eyes. He seems somewhat irritated at the gesture, “I do apologize for my master’s flair for the dramatic, but it wouldn’t do to be able to issue commands accidentally in common conversation.”

He has a point.

"Other than a challenging and rewarding fight, no. Many people are motivated to slay others for power, experience, or their loot, as opposed to the monsters that you see roaming the countryside. >>35926856
we have a magic attribute. like bulk or beef or whatever.

it's important enough to be its own score, not a skill.
>>
>>35926856
Points have diminishing returns, Anai's Magic stat requires 2 points to upgrade, charm requires 3, and smart requires 1.
Talents are skills, but not named so as to not be confused with Skill, the stat. a Magic Talent would be a knowledge talent, to identify magic and know magic things. Otherwise, buy a new category of magic as an Ability with one point

>>35926890
As in drive or control..
>>
+1 each to smart, magic, charm, skill, and HP
magic gives +1 magic hit, +1 magic damage
Smart gives +1 will, +1 magic attack
charm gives +1 will, +1 magic damage
skill gives +1 reflex, tank, and melee hit, and initiative
HP because our current HP is 2 and this is a 50% increase. also, min damage is 2. so currently ANYTHING can kill us in one hit.
>>
>>35926954
>Points have diminishing returns, Anai's Magic stat requires 2 points to upgrade, charm requires 3, and smart requires 1.
I am aware of this, but according to the pastebin
>Both Talents and Abilities are considered to be a base right now, so improve them on the 1-2-3 etc scale as with stats.
>New abilities must be bought at rank 1, and improved from there.
>>
>>35926958
Hp is generally lost one at a time. If this is unclear in the rules and the sheet I will correct it. Still a valid concern.
>>
>>35926954
So how much does >>35923352 cost?
>>
>>35926843
what would trap disarming and stuff be? we're pretty rogue-y it might be worth looking into if we're going to keep sneaking around.
>>
>>35926975
>Hp is generally lost one at a time.
Can you explain then, what is the point of "damage" then if it can only deal 1 HP?
our damage is 5 with a spell, 3 with melee.
>>
>>35926972
QM can you answer this please.
>>
>>35926972
Ah, thank you, this is unclear.

Stats have a base of 2. They cost more depending on how far from their original base they are.

Normally at chargen talents have a base of 0-

You know what fuck diminishing returns I'll just give you people less points from now on. This system is meant to not need more than ten minutes of explaining. Let the power creep begin.

Spend points on a 1-1 basis, motherfuckers.

>>35927038
>Craft(Trap) works to assemble and disassemble.

>>35927053
Think like mutants and masterminds, the damage makes your tank save harder to make. Some attacks may do multiple HP of damage on a failed save as well, as an indicator of strength.
>>
>>35927109
Put one or 2 in operate animal
Put 1 in magic and 1 in hp
put 1 in skill and if we don't put 2 in operate animal put the last point in wind magic
>>
>>35926991
One point, my good sir.

>>35926856
>>35926958
I see a common want for Smart, Charm, and Magic, to increase overall magical oomph. That'd be 3/5 exp, is that acceptable to everyone?
>>
>>35927109
would attacks always be against tank saves?

what's Will and reflex for then?
is tank the same as a fortitude save?

or would you have to make multiple saves then, one to hit, one to resist damage?
>>
>>35927187
Add the last 2 into the buff mentioned early thread and you have a deal
>>
>>35927188
Same thing they are for in D&D, Save or Sucks. Falling boulders, people trying to cast illusions at you.

Tank is only for damage. Stamina is used to resist Fortitude effects, and failing a save drains your stamina pool, reaching 0 means you drop unconscious/start taking lethal damage from poisons and such.
>>
>>35927239
smart charm magic and 2 in operate animal
>>
>>35927187
>>35927211
This seems good.
What is it fluffed as though? Supreme assmancy?
>>
>>35927109
I was fine with diminishing returns.
The way I read it is
>Initial stats are base stats for your character
>Normally that is 2. but if you put it at 5 at char gen, then it will be 1 point to raise it to 6, 2 points to raise it to 7, 3 points to raise it to 8.

Now that you clarified that this is not what you meant. that is fine.
>>
>>35927321
I'll see how this goes before implementing it into the tabletop rules. For now this is just going to be easier to have people vote on.

>>35927211
>>35927274
>>35927283
A compromise then.
>+1 to Charm, Smart, and Magic
>+1 to Operate Animal
>Seat of Authority 1: You are regal and dignified at rest, you belong on a throne. While seated at rest you have a bonus to social rolls

Lock in? Y/N

>Seat of Authority 1: You are regal and dignified at rest, you belong on a throne. While seated at rest you have a bonus to social rolls
Thought it was more to do with her ass than her sitting posture.
>>
>>35927382
We desperately need to throw in an HP point there
our HP is TWO.
>>
>>35927382
>>35927441
I say one out of smart and into HP.
>>
>>35927382
Y fine with me.
Might want to make a cap in one up per point to like 10 for attributes and 5 for skills. then increase cost past that.

>>35927441
Next time we get some hp
>>
>>35927469
smart is extremely useful
take it out of seat of authority
>>
>>35927501
for what? it's like, one more point to magic attack, and one to will.

we haven't even used will yet, and a +1 to magic attack is minor.
>>
>>35927432
Clearly the posture shows off her ass. Duh.

>>35927501
>>35927524
Smart also affects some of your Talents, like Survival and Operate Animal.

If we can't reach consensus in a few more posts, I'm rolling for it.
>>
>>35927587
Eh.
Posture isn't assy enough. Smarts it is
>>
>>35927524
>+1 to your magic attack is minor
>When magic is your best stat
>On a d20 attack
its a +5 percentage points to hit.
And will is invaluable
And >>35927587
it also comes with a free +1 in survival and operate animal.

actually, with the "1 point cost to increase anything" there is no point in raising anything but the core stats.
want handle animal? raise smarts
want social? raise charm
>>
>>35927432
Her posture is >>35926306

everyone already voted.
anyone replying here is just repeating their vote
>>
>>35927609
are you saying to cut smarts, or keep smarts?
>>
>>35927658
Eh. That requires facing way from someone, not something you'd do in conversation.
Original idea was actually sitting ON the person in question
>>
>>35927700
like a lapdance? I'd say that already would give bonuses to persuasion

Calling it for Smarts, Charm, Magic, HP, and Operate Animal.

It's horrible. Absolutely horrid. To treat the dead like they were someone's plaything, and to mutilate the bodies in such a vile fashion. After finishing your soup you resolve to bury what's left of the bodies as properly as possible, for lack of a mausoleum. You set about gathering some stones and sturdy firewood and construct a rudimentary tomb over the bodies. In the process of moving them and cleaning the room, you found a coin purse with ten small gold coins in it.
>Keep it, the dead do not need gold
>Leave it there, it’s not your place to decide where a dead man’s gold goes.
>Bury it with the men.

As you kneel in front of them offering a prayer to the gods of the afterlife out of pure instinct, you hear a sound drifting out from further along the road.

...Bagpipes?
>Vote on above
>End Thread. Join us next time for less mechanical issues, more rowdy !not scottsmen, and a whole lot of misunderstandings. Same time, 7pm US Central Time, next Sunday.

Questions comments and concerns welcome. Rules are going to be revised over the coming week.

>>35927700
Oh, it's the same posture, but angling to body in certain ways can draw the eye to certain...assets.

That is one such posture, but there are many, of varying subtlety.

?normally we'd leave 2 coins per body, but since there aren't any anymore, keep it.

there is no indication of this being a custom in this world...
we can at least ask atlas to confirm that such a thing is required for local burial rites

>Keep it, the dead do not need gold
Secpmded
>>
>>35927826
He wouldn't know, this is a personal choice you're making based on what feels right to you. Technically speaking you're burying them in as close to Anubian tradition as possible, given you had no linens, because that is what your body thinks is right. Coins would be a token(heh) gesture.

So was this just an outpost or the town proper?
>>
>>35928047
An outpost. Your hunger and battle, then burying took up the better part of the morning, so you'll reach Nolan by dusk if all goes well.
>>
>>35928106
So what are random encounters like? Also what's Nolan like? (atlas summary will do if you don't want to give away too much) Also what's the reaction going to be of us riding Sesmu?
>>
>>35928146
Think Final Fantasy overworld random encounters. Area-appropriate monsters like ents or animals in forests, thieves or goblins on a road. Muggers or other such hoodlums in a city. Depending on the roll you can also find items, opt to hunt, decide to rest, or have a story encounter like finding a MacGuffin, or another Atlas-user.
>>
>>35928258
Ok cool, can't answer the other questions without spoiling them?
>>
>>35928278
I can say Sesmu is an impressive beast. Your arrival in town will depend a lot on how you handle yourself with next thread's beginning. AS for how it is, just wait for the thread.
>>
>>35928316
How do we lean other types of magic? Is it just allocating skill points or do we need to be taught> Also do the toher skill work that was past a certain point?
>>
>>35928469
Experimenting and testing your own magic might lead to other kinds of magic, but generally the easiest way is to be taught. You would then spend exp to unlock what you were taught.
>>
>>35928602
ah ok. Hmm, would it work that way for anything past basic weapon skills too?
>>
>>35923352
fuck
