When you finish drying off you note that your skin finally seems back to its normal sensitivity. You aren’t sure if you’re sad or grateful.

You head into your room to see Kat in some basketball shorts and a t-shirt playing a puzzle game. She looks up as you enter wrapped only in the towel, having not wanted to get back into dirty clothes.

You lay there for a minute before gently rolling Kat off of you, and turning off the alarm. You stretch with a yawn before padding quietly into the kitchen and look around, you did just bacon and eggs yesterday, so you think you’ll add pancakes to that today and hopefully not fuck everything up.

You almost pull out the pancake mix, but decide against it and start pulling out flour, baking powder, milk, the eggs, and butter. It doesn’t take you long before you have it mixed and ready to go.

You set it aside for now as you get the pan and grab bacon, you throw that in the pan to cook and decide to go for fried eggs today. You prepare two eggs per person while closely watching the bacon to make sure it doesn’t burn.

A quick taste of one shows that you did pretty average for yourself; though its certainly better than you’d normally find. You set each the eggs and bacon on plates as you start cooking the pancakes.

Kat at some point has wandered into the kitchen as she stands there rubbing her eyes mouth watering. She yawns and you stick a slice of bacon in her mouth as she does so. Her eyes open wide as she slowly chews the bacon, you can tell she likes it from how she’s practically glowing.

“It’s so much better than yesterday…” Kat says with a content sigh.

“I told you, yesterday was bad compared to usual,” you say as you pull off two pancakes and put them on her plate, “Here you don’t have to wait if you don’t want to.”

Kat shakes her head, “I’ll wait,” she still takes the plate and brings it to the table though.

You take off and follow the same path as before, like before Beth struggles through it before hitting the point of suck and dealing with it. She does handle it better though, probably from knowing what to expect.

Shadow Alex is having slight difficulties with the breast situation, something that causes Kat endless distraction.

“I was wrong,” Shadow Alex explains while running, “It’s like having two separate but equally filled camelbaks on your chest.”

You can’t help but chuckle at that, “I’ll be sure to remember that.”

It takes you about forty minutes but you finally manage to get home, Beth is more awake than she was yesterday, in fact she looks mostly cognitive. Though you can tell when she gets home she is going to take a nap.

Shadow Alex unfortunately is about to run out of time, both of you get that feeling as she gives you a sweaty hug.

You get up and pull Kat into a hug, and almost immediately she starts to sniffle, “It’s alright, you’ll always have a place here, honest. You don’t need to worry about doing something that will fuck this up, this is your home. You don’t fuck up being let into your home.”

You do your best to rub soothing circles on her back, “If you’re ever uncomfortable with anything I need you to tell me, okay?” Kat nods into your chest, “Good.”

You wait a while hugging her until you’re positive she’s finished crying, eventually you pull away and sit back down, the front of your shirt wet, “You know, Kat I really am that relaxed, there’s no hidden catch; its part of why Beth’s upset because I’m too chill. Too easygoing.”

You shrug before continuing, “I’m not perfect by a long shot, just wait the newness of the situation’ll wear off and then you’ll start finding things about me that’s frustrating…” you grin as you let the implications of that sink in, “Besides I’m fairly certain that if I was to kick you to the curb my mother would adopt you instead.”

Kat can’t help but give a laugh at that, Beth has a somewhat guilty look on her face as she looks between you and Kat.

After a moment of silence Kat finally says, “You know Alex, I’m okay with you calling me your pet… because for you it seems to mean you take care of me, shower me with attention, make sure I’m fed and clean… its nice.”

In a fun fact and a little to stroke my own miniature ego I have apparently written roughly 60k words for this quest. Wiki claims novels are 40k + with totality of life. Ego stroke complete.

That said I'm sure about 10k of that comes from vote options and minor things I say at end of posts.

and maybe another 10k for the whole setting up for a vote.

So at best I figure 40k words that are actually meaningful.

Mini-ego's are thankfully really easy to stroke.
