I'm going to be playing 5e as a human Skeleton character, but I'm meant to be keeping it a secret from my party except one. (that is a novice necromancer that believes she was the one that resurrected me)

I was just planning of covering all my exposed bone with clothes/armour claiming "Where I come from showing any skin is a sin". But there must be more creative ways of doing it than that.

Anyone got any fun ideas on how to hide my true skeletal form?
>>
>>35889539
Good old fashioned Illusions. A necklace would be least likely to slip off your bones, methinks. Of course, you'd have to discuss it with your DM, and it might be a tad expensive.

Which class were you going? If you're a bard or rogue, you could dress up as a Harlequin complete with mask, and they'd never suspect a thing. If a Cleric, paladin or possibly druid you can go for a hooded holy-man look.
>>
pretend to be an eccentric rich old man that likes scaring people and wears a full body skeleton costume as he travels and goes on adventures.

alternatively wear a wizards robe with a hood and some gloves?
>>
>>35889539

Wear regular clothes, claim that a curse or something turned all your fleshy bits totally intangible but that you're really just a normal guy and not a skeleton. Make a big show of going to the bathroom and making noises and doing other not-skeleton stuff, to really help sell the fact that you're not a skeleton.
>>
>>35889539
Wear a thick iron mask. When questioned, respond in the third-person and claim you have a disfiguring scar.
>>
>>35889556
Was considering either fighter or rogue since two of the party are already magical classes. Leaning more towards rogue now though. I guess just being a tall skinny guy in a mask is too suspicious.

I do like the magical item idea.

Definitely using both of these.

"Excuse me, I definitely have to go take a large trip to the toilet... Yes sir. All that food you didn't see me eat but I definitely ate will certainly be coming out."

I will have to have a sack in my ribcage that catches the food I pretend to eat.
>>
>>35889573
>pulls out water skin
>makes "glug glug" noises while he tips it up
>"oh man, that is some good water. Mnmm-mmm yup, totally just hydrated myself with that water. I'm feeling so refreshed after that delicious water"
>5min late
>"ahh dear o' dear, it would appear that water I drank earlier has gone straight to my totally existent bladder! Excuse me chaps as I go relieve myself behind these bushes
>"zzzzzip, ahhhhhhhhhh psssssss-ssssssss-ssss-sss...sss...sst"
>"oh my that was quite the urination I just took, it was so much I could totally write my name. I am totally relieved and feeling a lot better now my bladder has been emptied"

Rinse and repeat every 10-20min
>>
>>35889586
Pfff, nah. Tall skinny guys in masks are a dime a dozen in fantasy realms. You just gotta bounce around and crack jokes. Like a less threatening Cicero.
>>
>>35889607
"Oh man it sure is hot out here today... under all these protective garments i'm definitely sweating buckets. Soaking wet, I'd take them off but I would certainly be far too embarrassed to do so."

>pretend to be an eccentric rich old man that (...) wears a full body skeleton costume as he travels and goes on adventures.

This, also claim that you are a real skeleton.

The ribsack is a good idea, you could dump all the food out every time you totally go to the bathroom for reals with your human digestive system.

Maybe rig up a hose from your water bladder to your crotchbones really help sell the illusion.
>>
>>35889539

I also think I need a better name for him.
He's currently called 'Bones Malone'
>>
Hooded robes would serve well, as would full plate armour, depending on the class. Keep some form of illusion handy if they rip off your disguise. As for behaviour, you can swallow the food provided, and later use the facilities in order to dispose of the intact material.

One thing the DM suggested was to discreetly scalp people and wear their hair because I really miss having hair.

I'm seriously considering it, even if I just wear it under my disguise.
>>
>>35889618
Collect poop, vomit and the Ilk and keep in jars and bottles in your backpack. When you do these things, you go off, pull it out and dump it where you're doing said act.

They'll never suspect a thing

>sees animated skeleton
"Aaahhhh a moving skeleton! How very terrifying! I am totally surprised and scared of this animated skeleton, and completely unbelieving in it's current animated presence!
>>
>>35889645

Sir James Skellington.

Esquire.
>>
>>35889665
If you go down this route, prepare to start going really crazy and patching together a meatsack disguise for yourself from the corpses of your enemies.

And then people who have bits you like.

And then your party members.
>>
>>35889672
Basically become a non magic reverse Lich.
>>
>>35889665

Scalp people who try to discover you're a skeleton. Or, scalp anything that threatens to reveal that you're a skeleton. Some dog comes up and starts sniffing at you, maybe tries to run off with your femur? Guess who's getting scalped. Check out my extremely manly chest and back hair, fellow living party members. What? No, everyone has black and white spotted chest hair, and eight nipples. You don't? What are you, some kind of skeleton pretending to be a human or something?
>>
Wear a suit of armor and tell everyone you are cursed to never remove it.

Are you people suggesting OP should play a skinwalker?
>>
>>35889705
...OP, you know what you must do.

Take performance:mimicry and scare the fuck out of people to boot.
>>
>>35889705
Heres what you do OP, skin humans and wear their skin, then you have the perfect costume
>>
>>35889705

Hey, OP is the one who suggested scalping motherfuckers. I'm just trying to help build on his own character concept.

If it was up to me I'd use hoses, leather, glass eyes, animal parts and fur, all that jazz to eventually "break the curse of intangible flesh" and become a real boy.
>>
>>35889733

And now you're telling him to skin children. You're one perverse bastard, anon.
The morality of it aside, OP is playing as a full grown skeleman, his bones wouldn't fit and would pop out of the child suit.
>>
>>35889733
>>35889753
I was planning on running either chaotic neutral or neutral evil. And if I put glass eyes in my sockets it'd blind me, because I still use the empty holes to see.
>>
Just vacate someone else's skeleton.
>>
>>35889753

Well no shit, sherlock.

He'd have to skin like 5 or 6 kids, minimum. There's no way he'd have enough materials for a suit from just one.

Bonus points for curly golden locks of hair on your head by the end of the campaign.
>>
>>35889645
All-Bones Jones.
>>
>>35889770
Eyes aren't flesh, OP.
You're be wearing only the flesh as a suit, the gaps in the skin where the eyes would be would allow you to see.
Just wear shades or something to hide your absence of eyes.

>>35889775
I like your thinking, Would wearing human skin raise his AC? And if so, would it be comparable to wearing leather armor?
>>
Wrap your bones in padding and bandages, claim to be the victim of horrific burn scarring.
>>
>>35889798
Human skin is pretty weak, so I doubt it'd do anything armorwise unless he tanned it. Of course, then its immediatly obvious its not his skin.

>All detection spells show the fleshuit's species, alignment, etc, etc
>Be indistinguishable from human, save for a tendency to scream for help while attempting to claw your bones out when your fleshsuit gets uppity

>Nobody knows you're your skeleton

>UNTIL YOU POP OUT
>>
>>35889835
Please don't tell me that's an actual album cover. It looks horrid.
>>
>>35889810

I'm starting to question the reality of being able to wear human skin as a skeleton.
Without organs, muscles, ligaments, tendons, etc the skin will have to be incredibly tight for it to not restrict his mobility by being baggy.
Also think how it would affect his Charisma, he would look like he just got out of Auschwitz.
Not to mention the horrific suturing he must have to have gotten into the skin.
>>
>>35889810
>He's a paladin who seeks to better himself by any means necessary
>Party is impressed by his ridiculous fortitude to tan his own hide in a feat to improve his ability to shrug off hits
>>
>>35889835

Getting healed would repair your sentient mansuit too. Jesus, that's fucked up.
>>
>>35889844
Maybe he could pad it out with something?
>>
>>35889844
He'd look worse than Christian Bale in The Machinist.
>>
>>35889835
I don't think that'd work. You'd have to somehow remove the brain from the victim and palce it into your own skull without damaging the nerves too greatly.
>>
>>35889844
One's assumed to get proper padding to go along with it. That's why you shouldn't attempt it without taking ranks in Profession: Taxidermy.
>>
>>35889860

How about padding it with more skin?
Find an extremely fat individual and just use the excess skin. I'm sure multiple layers of skin would count for raising his AC.
>>
>>35889875
He'd end up like that lion someone mounted that ended up looking like a retarded otter or something.
>>
>>35889844
What if someone incased the skeleton inside a stoen statue, and then cast Stone to Flesh? Wouldn't that fill in all the missing details?
>>
>>35889878
>Alright, introduce yourself to the party Mr. Skellington.
>>
>>35889880
>get mold made
>stand inside
>pour concrete into it
>get them to cast stone to flesh
>new non-skeletal body
>>
>>35889880

Or result in >>35889835. Bones aren't stone, so only the statue would be affected.

Get some flesh-colored clay or a similar material and put it on your body in places that might show. Mold it into the right shapes if need be. If wax museums are available, you could also use wax parts, pre-formed and everything. Maybe you could even take on the form of a famous person by hijacking a wax sculpture of that person.

My question is, what is the best class for a skeleton to play (aside from xylophone rib cage bard)?

I was think Barbarian, since how would you fight if you realized that you have no flesh to cut or blood to bleed? Plus clattering angrily as you rage is hilarious.

Bonus points if he was a fencer or something before death, and now charges headfirst swinging his rapier in a rage.
>>
>>35889645
Bones. Just Bones.

Could be first name, could be last name. Who knows.
>>
A skellington would be immune to stabbing/poison/being decapitated and more fun stuff.

also any class can rattle when scared/angry
>>
>>35890498
Maybe he still is. How good would you get at fencing duels if thrusts did nothing to you?
>>
>>35889539
I was gonna do this but be a lone gunslinger/duelist. Sounded pretty cool to me. Was going to also hate the undead while hiding his identity as one
>>
Simple answer: wear heavy padding beneath heavy armour, and never take it off. You are a man's man, and eating/sleeping/shitting is for pussies.

Also slow walk menacingly a lot, especially underwater.
>>
>>35889539

Act confident, confidence goes a long way
>>
>>35890498
