A couple weeks ago, your life was fine. Well, in all fairness, being a "security consultant" for Chalcedon was never the easiest job, but still. You had money, you got to go home at the end of the day, you could feel safe when you weren't on the job. Then Maxine Hunter took over the company and you barely made it out alive.

You got your revenge, with the help of your accomplice, the anonymous "Raimes." Maxine's kid - Clara - was easy pickings, and apparently Mrs. Hunter didn't expect you to try to kidnap the girl. You grabbed her after her school let out and ran for it.

There have just been a few wrinkles in the time since you picked her up.

One, her mother isn't coughing up the cash. You think she's probably just playing hardball, but there's no way to be sure. There could be something else at work.

Two, you've become increasingly suspicious of this whole thing, especially your accomplice, Raimes. You only know them as a voice in a phone, and the operation is starting to feel like a set-up.

Three, the girl seems to be insane. She apparently decided she was in love with you "at first sight," even though her "first sight" of you was you grabbing her off the street and trussing her up and gagging her in your backseat.

You switched safe houses and tied the girl to the bed, drifting off to sleep on the other side of the room.

Your pleasant sleep is interrupted by a loud thump. When you look over at the origin of the sound, you see Clara on the ground, still mostly trussed up (only having undone the binding that kept her tied to the bed), trying to wriggle her way towards you like a caterpillar.

>Ask her what the hell she's doing.
>Pretend to still be asleep, find out what she's doing by watching.
>This could be a trap of some kind. Draw your weapon.
>Write-in.

What's been happening at Chalcedon?

And are we sure that there was only one tracking device?

You adjust slightly on the couch, letting your mouth drop open and your half-lidded eyes turn to where Clara's currently crawling towards you. She wriggles along the ground with an admirable diligence, slowly making her way towards you. Her trajectory's a beeline, and the moment she gets close to your couch, your hand automatically reaches to your sidearm, quietly pulling it out of the holster, keeping your finger off the trigger.

Clara, for her part, pulls herself up onto the couch with you, disrupting you as she flops down next to you. You keep your gun quietly trained on her through the whole process, watching her carefully. She's lying down facing away from you, her head resting on the edge of your pillow. She seems oblivious to the fact that you're conscious as she curls her body backwards into yours, purring happily as she settles in... to sleep, apparently.

>Okay, now you have to ask what the hell she's doing.
>Wrap an arm around her so she can't run off. Then go to sleep. You can deal with this nonsense in the morning.

It's pretty obvious what she's doing, and that she'll probably just do it again... or something even MORE annoying.

So just ignore her for now.

This fucking kid... you sigh, audibly, and slowly wrap one arm around her neck, like you used to do with your beagle when you were a kid. She gives a tiny little squeak of surprise before settling in happily, giving off a little hum. Her half-free hand struggles to make its way up; when she manages to place it over yours, she awkwardly works to entwine her fingers with yours.

Literally insane.

You holster your gun and try to go back to sleep. It's been a while since you slept with a woman, but another warm body in bed with you is... well, it's not unpleasant. Even if the girl in question is clearly screwed up in the head.

You manage to fall asleep quickly, like this.

* * *

"Angel? Sweetie? Pumpkin?" Clara's voice is soft and sweet as it stirs you out of your sleep. She's still facing away from you, and her fingers are gently brushing the back of your hand.

"What?" You're a little irritated. It's pretty early, and you're pretty certain that you were having a nice dream, even as it escapes you.

"Sorry, angel..." she says, voice demure. "It's just... I have to use the little girl's room. And I can't, really, like this... you know? I've been holding it in, because I didn't want to bother you, sweetheart, but you know, I really do have to go... those burritos didn't help either..."

It takes you a moment to realize what she's talking about, and you rub at your eyes as you sit up, letting your arm relax around her neck. "Right, forgot about that. Expected you to be gone by now, honestly."

>Untie her. She's been a good girl and you honestly don't think it's an act.
>Undo just enough of her bonds for her to go to the bathroom without assistance.
>Keep her well and truly bound, personally see to her bathroom activities. No matter how gross they may be.

Depends. If the bathroom is one you can't really hope to escape from, like without windows, untie her and just keep an eye on the hallway. Give her SOME privacy.

If there's a chance she could escape, untie her, but keep lien of sight.

Why do I have the sneaking suspicion that either:
A) Raimes is actually a researcher examining the effects of abnormalities in kidnap victim behaviour on the kidnapper.
B) The whole thing is being recorded and broadcast as a slice of life styled show on the Cyberpunk edition of HBO.
C) life is coming back to kick us in the balls in the most inventive of fashions.

>>
"Okay, okay, uh," you start, looking down at her. She's trussed up pretty damn tightly, around the arms and legs, except for her right forearm, which is free since her recent "escape." She looks up at you with big, hopeful eyes, as you consider what to do.

The kid's crazy, and you don't trust her. As... unpleasant as this no doubt will be, you have to get this done. You lift her up, bridal style, and carry her into the bathroom. She can't stroke your face because you grab her from the opposite side this time, leaving her unable to reach you despite her firmest intentions.

You lift the lid and place her on the toilet, her skirt and panties still on. "Uh," she starts, before you lean down to her thighs, undoing the bonds there and on her calves. She blushes a rosy red when you reach under her skirt for her panties, pulling them slowly down to rest below her knees. You watch her the whole time she does her job, and she averts her gaze, her cheeks a brilliant shade of pink the entire time as the sounds of her evacuating her bowels and bladder reach your ears.

After a long time, she's well and truly done. "I, I can't wipe my butt like this, sweetheart," she stammers, staring at your feet.

>Wipe her ass yourself.
>Just pull up her panties.
>Fuck it, undo one of her hands and let her do it.

"Oh, for fuck's sake," you say, rolling your eyes. You undo the bindings on her right arm, and she quickly squirms and wriggles to get herself clean, using up a lot of toilet paper as she does. Eventually, she flushes the toilet, apparently feeling that her task is done. "You finished up, then?"

She nods, her cheeks still a beautiful shade of pink. You pull up her panties - she has to wriggle to let you - and then maneuver her over to the sink, helping her wash off her hand. Your taller body towers over her small frame, her back pressing into your chest as you rub soap all over her hand. When it's properly cleaned, you quickly towel it off before tying her back up fully and lifting her up, bridal style, carrying her back to the couch in the main room and dumping her there. She stretches out when she's on the couch, arching her back to present her bust to you.

"So," Clara starts, staring up at you from the crouch, "darling, what are we going to do now?"

"We," you say, careful to put air quotes around the word, "are not doing anything. *I* am going to call my accomplice and get a sitrep, and move on from there."

You call up Raimes on a different burner phone, waiting patiently for the staticky voice to come on the line. After two rings, it does. "Raimes speaking," they say. "Is the girl in good condition? The mother's making noises, and I'd prefer to have a fresh audiofile to give her. Include the phrase 'striker seven' in there, the mother requested it. She's probably just stalling, but there's no sense in not giving her it anyway."

"I'll do it when we're finished speaking. Any updates?"

"Your call to her made her panic. She's being much more proactive in looking for her daughter, now. There have been a couple incidents with her teams as a consequence. You should have left it to me."

"Sorry if I want to make sure everything's aboveboard."

"I have no reason to betray you," Raimes says. Their voice sounds almost sour, even though it's just the same, constant tone. "To be honest, I am more preoccupied with hurting Mrs. Hunter than with financial gain, though I certainly plan to enjoy both."

"That so?"

"It is."

>You don't know what Raimes' motive is, and they speak through a voice modulator. How do they expect you to trust them?

"I don't know your motives, you speak through a goddamn voice modulator, I've never seen your face. How do you expect me to trust you?"

There's a long pause on the other end of the line, and you worry after a bit that they hung up or something. Then they speak. "This is the only form of speech available to me, I'm afraid. I could use a text to speech program, if you prefer, but it would be slow. My vocal cords are... not what they used to be."

"Then tell me what's in it for you. Tell me what you're after."

"Following Mrs. Hunter's ascension, she made some adjustments in funding, which lead to your rather violent firing, and I have already determined they will lead to mine. I would like those adjustments to be... reversed. I do not believe Mrs. Hunter can be convinced of this, so I am attempting to undermine her position to the point that she will be forced to resign."

"And how is Mrs. Hunter doing, at present?"

There's a pause, Raimes apparently considering things. "She is beginning to feel the pressure, I believe. She does not wish to publicize her daughter's kidnapping, and she has not spoken to the police. I anticipate that, with a degree of patience on our part, we can make her afraid enough to pay up."

"I need a show of trust if we're going to keep going with this," you say into the phone. "If our positions were reversed, you'd be saying the same thing."

There's a pause. "This plan may fail. You might be taken captive and tell them what you know. I can't give you my identity; I am not as physically adept as you, not anymore, so there is no chance of me escaping unaided if I'm found. You have to understand my position."

"And you have to understand mine," you reply.

"I... I don't know what I can give you. I apologize. I will attempt to find some way to show I harbor no ill intent towards you. I would like to reassure you, explicitly, that I do not. You have been helpful, and I want to ensure that our relationship ends on a positive note. I will call you when I have... a peace offering."

You take out a notepad and scribble out a new note for Clara to read out, this time including the phrase "striker seven" in the middle. You hold your hand on your holster when she reads it out. Just in case.

"I am Clara Hunter, daughter of Maxine Hunter, the current CEO of Chalcedon Incorporated. The current time is 7:45 AM, the current date is October 12, 2034. I have been kidnapped and am unharmed at present. I was instructed to mention the phrase 'striker seven.' I'd like to note, for the record, that my captor is a real hunk." Great, another unrequested extra chunk at the end, and it's embarrassing enough that you delete it from the recording before sending it off to Raimes.

"Do you recognize the phrase 'striker seven'?" You ask, looking at Clara carefully.

She just blinks. "No. I thought you knew what it meant. Why?"

"Your mother requested it be mentioned. It's not some code or anything?"

"Not that I know of," Clara replies, looking a little mousier than usual. "Well," she says, sprawling her body out again, wriggling to face you better. "We're stuck here... together... a man and a woman, alone... the woman all tied up... why, anything could happen... An. Ee. Theeng." She looks up at you with big puppy dog eyes.

"Yeah, but it's not going to," you reply, and she gives a feigned, ridiculous expression of hopelessness. "Seriously, kid. This is not a normal reaction to being kidnapped."

"What's the point in being normal?" She asks, giving the best shrug she can with her arms bound like that. "Aren't we all supposed to just be ourselves?"

"Not when 'ourselves' are crazy, lovesick teenagers who'll do anything to get in their kidnapper's pants," you reply. "I asked a sincere question, I'd like the best answer you can give."

"I don't know..." she says, looking away from you in thought. "It's romantic. I've fantasized about being whisked away like this for as long as I can remember. I think my first... you know, my first sexual thought, was when I was an itty bitty girl - five, I think - and I was being bad, so one of my caretakers picked me up and took me off. It made me feel all funny and I kept trying to get that high again. I was little so I didn't really understand what it was, you know?"

"Caretakers?" You ask, idly.

"I was babysat 24/7 when I was little. Up until I was six or so. Mom didn't have time, with work."

"And this is all some weird sex thing for you?"

"No! No, I really love you. Please, sweetheart, I know I'm acting a bit strange, but when you grabbed me yesterday," she fixes you with a serious stare, trying to convince you of her words, "I knew you were the One."

"Whatever," you say, sighing. "Give me those passwords you mentioned."

"Um, okay..." Clara says, the sudden change of topic apparently disorienting her.

She lists out the passwords. They include several different social media accounts, a personal email password, and the password to her home computer (which Clara says doesn't have access to her company things).

"Thanks, kid," you say, turning your attention to your laptop, which you fish out of your equipment bag and hurriedly set it up. As it boots, you text Raimes the password for Mrs. Hunter's home computer. See if they can't make more of it than you could, or find anything enlightening or helpful.

Mrs. Hunter's personal email address is... well, apparently she's been using it for over twenty years and has never changed it. There are a *lot* of emails to go through. You search your own name, first, to see if you can find any enlightening conversations that way; but you're unmentioned by name. "Security consultant," "employee," and several other attempts find nothing useful on you either. A quick skim of the past few days shows nothing, either.

You turn back the clock, looking over her acquisition of Chalcedon, but none of the real meat of it's in this email; it's all personal things. She mentions Chalcedon, but to friends, and only in vague terms. "I think I can acquire a new company," "I just bought out a new company, look in the headlines for it," "yeah, it's Chalcedon, woot." That sort of thing. There's long, flirty conversations with her husband; those come up a lot. More recently, she's sent something to her husband: "Need to talk to you, now. Pick up your phone." By the date, you reckon it to be right after Raimes informed her that you'd kidnapped her daughter.

Without anything in particular to search for, you're not going to turn up much.

You start searching. "Raimes" turns up a reference to a city council race in 2020 - probably not relevant. "Rain," the housekeeper's name, finds only a few scattered references to the man in question, and no sign of any animosity. "Striker Seven" gets a few scattered emails which happened to use both, but nothing in particular sticks out. "Clara," well, that understandably gets hundreds of emails. Mails to and from her father, her high school, her friends' parents... you continue down the list, vaguely skimming. It takes a couple minutes to reach the bottom; there's an email to an elementary school enrolling Clara there.

That's the earliest email talking about Clara there. Dated back to 2022. There's only a couple before it, not talking about the Clara you've got bound up in your room. Talking about things like what she would name her daughter, or some unrelated (?) Clara that's an ice skater. No references to your Clara between 2016 and 2022, what ought to be her first six years of life.

You glance over at your captive.

A brief couple checks of the ice skater shows that she's not relevant; just some ice skater Maxine was a fan of, way back when. You spin around in your seat, closing the laptop. "Tell me about yourself, Clara," you say.

"Well, I keep to a strict diet and exercise, I'm told I'm an excellent cook, my three sizes are-"

"Let's talk about your family instead," you say, interrupting her. She pouts, but shuts up. "What does your dad do, for a living? How do you get on with your parents? Any siblings?"

"Um, my mom can't have kids any more, because I was a- um, what's the word, a troubled birth? But! Don't worry, the doctors checked, I didn't inherit any of those problems from her, so I can have as many kids as you want. I'm partial to four, but I'm open to negotiation-"

"Okay, so you're an only child," you interrupt. "What does your father do, then?"

"Oh, he's a secretary! He was my mom's secretary, her 'second in command.' That's how they met. Kinda romantic, right? I mean, not as romantic as this, of course-"

"Of course."

"But still. Romantic. We get on, when he's home. They tend to move together, y'know? Never one without the other? And mom's at work a lot, so dad's right there with her, so I don't see either of them much. But that's fine! They love me and I love them, so I don't mind. It just means more free time to spend with friends and stuff. I mean, I'm probably going to have to be rethinking a lot of my priorities, now that I met you, but still."

Not necessarily, it's open to interpretation.

In the novel he probably was, in the movie he wasn't necessarily, but Ford thought he was.

It's unlikely that everybody in the world was a replicant, but the main cast probably were, with the exception of the guys that did the robotics work.

"What's your birthday, Clara?" You glance down at your phone, texting Raimes with the odd little tidbit as you do. Perhaps they can dig up something worthwhile about it, prove their trustworthiness.

"November 2, 2016. If you want to get me a present, that's okay. Your love is more than enough for me."

"You trying to get me in trouble?" You ask after a quick mental calculation. "Seventeen is below the age of consent."

"Not in this state!" Clara replies, eyes big. "In this state, the age of consent is seventeen! So you can have your way with me and it's all totally legal," she wiggles her hips suggestively.

"I'm sure you were really cute as a kid," you say, "not at all like right now." She gives a shocked, hurt look, but you can tell she's faking. "You got any stories from then? Back when you were just a wee tyke?"

"Well, I told you about my first sexual thought, which was when I was five-ish. I don't really remember that age very well, though. I remember when I moved into my parents house when I turned six! That was really exciting!"

"You didn't live with your parents until you were six?"

"Rich people," she says with a shrug. "You know how they are."

"Your mother has a net worth of two billion dollars. It's not really 'they' at that point, is it?"

"Well, *I* don't have a net worth of two billion dollars," she complains. "I can't even get ten million dollars for you, angel! If *I* was rich, I would give you all the money you needed and then run away with you! Oh," she sighs, "it would be so wonderful."

>Ask her if that's a promise.

Later edits to the film make it a near certainty that he was a replicant vis. the unicorn dream and the fact that the cop knows about it.

That DOESN'T MATTER, though, because the entire narrative thrust of the film is that how we're born is not what defines us as human beings. Empathy, love, fear, capacity for mercy.

"Tell me about your caretakers. I mean, it sounds interesting, and a bit unusual. What do you remember about that time?"

"Well," Clara pauses, pursing her lips in thought, "it was a long time ago. I remember the building was really white, and there was a roof garden I got to play in sometimes. Other than to play up there, I can't remember going out, which is weird. I'm sure I did at some point, though."

"Keep going. What did you do most days? Were there other kids?"

"There were some other kids at the same time. We watched educational videos and learned phonetics and stuff. Played with, they weren't lego bricks but they were kinda the same idea? I could never find them when I looked for them online. Don't know what they were called. That's about all I remember, though."

You nod, and look at your lap for a long moment before turning up and speaking. "You've been very helpful, Clara. Thanks."

"Oh, it's no problem, sweetie. I love you so I don't mind at all."

"Still. I'd like to reciprocate." Her eyes get big and hopeful at that. "I used to be a soldier, before I became a security consultant. Well, that's a bit deceptive, saying that..." you go on to explain your long military career, first as a simple Army soldier, then later in the special forces. Clara listens, enraptured, hanging on your every word.

After you get through the broad strokes - join the army, get sent to Korea when that started, recruited into special forces, sent to a bunch of Latin American countries here and there, retired to work at Chalcedon - she perks up. "Ooh, please, tell me a story, angel. I promise not to tell anyone anything."

Mr. Hunter is behind it all along, the man behind the man. And as we lie bleeding on the floor, suffering from his sudden yet inevitable betrayal, Clara will put two in his chest and one in his head as we will have taught her, and the cycle will either end or begin anew. Depending on what the story here really is.

"Alright, sure. Back in Korea, I was just an army grunt, running in a convoy, right?" She nods, interested. "We started getting shelled by artillery. Could tell the general direction, but had no idea about who was spotting us or how. Lost a lot of men before we managed to get to cover, and we were pinned down. The Norks had some kind of jamming device, so we were stuck there, just waiting for them to pull in reinforcements and come fuck up our asses.

"Captain asks for volunteers to try to sortie. I volunteered. I figure, you know, might as well, right? Not like I had anything to lose. So we basically - charge is an exaggeration, but you can imagine it. We're gunning it, trying to get in a position to return fire, desperately hoping not to get clipped ourselves. Just when we get in sight of the artillery, bam, a fucking shell hits next to us, flips the car. The other guys were dead, I think, and I was pretty fucked up, but I had line of sight. Hell, the explosion had pushed us *towards* the artillery. Took out a grenade, pulled the pin, and tossed it as hard as I could at the artillery. Passed out soon thereafter."

"What happened then?" She asks, positively enraptured.

"Well, I'm sitting here, so obviously I didn't die. Grenade set off a chain reaction or some bullshit. Norks thought they'd gotten shelled back and retreated, my team picked me up and patched me back together. I pretended I did it on purpose."

"You are amazing," she whispers, voice hushed. You just let out a little laugh in reply, starting to turn your attention back to the laptop. "No, you really are, I knew you were already but you're even more amazing than I thought."

"Yeah, sure."

He's spamming my thread with garbage. It makes it fall into autosage faster, reducing the thread's size, and also just generally shits up the thread and detracts from genuine discussion when you have some faggots having irrelevant metachat.
