You are Michael Greystone, BOLO Supertank Commander, Free Trader, Outlaw, Interstellar Folk Hero, and recently Colonial Governor of the Megacorp-Chartered mining colony of Tempest. Beyond the Frontier of the Terran Commonwealth, your world stands almost entirely on its own, just over a million political dissidents, gang-pressed City-Planet peasants, freed slaves, and alien exiles on a storm-wracked rock in the Great Dark.

Your world isn't much to look at now, alien algae coating every landmass, spreading across the newly risen oceans in a film of muck, and steadily poisoning itself with its own by-products. However, even as the toxin levels rise outside the pre-fabricated domes that shelter your humble Colonists, they pave the way for the modified Terran ecosystem that will soon cover the shattered continents and countless islands, spreading mist-wreathed jungles across what is now a wasteland.

But building this new world will not be a matter of hard work and time alone. Defending your skies is a ramshackle fleet of converted junk freighters and tugs armed with garage-built chemical rockets and re-purposed mining lasers, backed by a small fleet of captured Pirate vessels gained through guile and trickery. However, they were far from the only Pirate fleet operating in this region of human space, and you doubt you will be lucky enough to be threatened by another band of Pirates so wracked by internal strife that a few well-placed words could turn them against each other like rabid dogs.

There are problems far closer than distant Pirate havens, though. The Rach, Pseudo-Arachnids, have been mostly cleared from your Colony region by General Wittmores extensive ground campaign. However, following your victory over the heaviest combat strain known to exist, they have switched to producing countless lesser Demi-Queens. Scattered in small, hard to detect Colonies with low enough resource intake that they can subsist off of local Algae, they produce Worker and Warrior Caste Rach to send into the Secure Zone and engage your Colony Domes in constant small harassing attacks, with larger assaults on border settlements at seemingly random intervals, testing your defenses and requiring James to keep part of his force garrisoning your Domes in support of local Militia forces.

Your Simulcra spying program is going well, having identified dozens of hidden Colonies where Rach Brains plot in secret, waiting for the next Spawning when specially trained tactical teams can raid the Nests and recover the newly spawned Brains before they can be culled of "defective" minds by their seniors, in the hopes that the odd ones will be capable of meaningful communication, and just maybe peaceful co-existence.

The force that will likely carry out this mission, your newly formed Tempest Army Special Forces, is proceeding at pace. Attempting to integrate Kzinti Warriors with human Supersoldiers and your best human soldiers, this new Armed Forces branch is slowly taking shape under the tuition of Spider, your renegade Cobra, and Dean, Cyborg Military Intelligence Officer and Spy.

In more immediate news, the Commonwealth Navy Task-force that will be sent to your world to "Investigate the Pirate Incident" and "secure the system", in reality to report on your use of the "retired" BOLO Iron Scythe in combat against the Rach, has been unavoidably delayed, and will be here in six months.

Here right now, however, is a AAA Trade-Ship, which will return every Financial Quarter (Three Months) to collect the mineral harvest, minus your cut, and offer infrastructure and additional infrastructure and pre-fabricated buildings for sale.

>You have 16 C in the Treasury

>James has requested to see you about organizing the structure of the Tempest Army

>>
>>35738561

It has already been subtracted. The amount was 5 C.

AAA has Fusion Reactors for sale. You currently have 11, each producing 2 Power. 1 Power is sufficient to provide energy for 50,000 Colonists and a Mining Pit. You will need 7 more Power to bring the system up to full capacity (The Automated Factories and Machine Shop drawing more power than the starting Reactors you were issued can supply), and at the moment you are operating at reduced efficiency, and any further stress on the Power Grid will result in Rolling Blackouts.

Fusion Reactors are 5 C each and take 21 days to bring online.
>>
>>35738616
Sure why not. Let's do a Savings Goal of 5C per quarter - but this is a goal and comes out of the Treasury at the end of the quarter.

...hell, use it to set up a Bank of Tempest, offer loans to colonists at low rates for their own infrastructure projects.

>>
>>35738753

>>35738752

Fusion Reactors are currently beyond your local manufacturing.

Wind Generators would be entirely possible. However, you do not yet have the local Engineering to produce models efficient enough to create more power than they cost to manufacture. This will change when the Technical University finishes producing its first crop of local Technicians in three years.

You meet again in the wood-paneled Dining Hall that has been home to two momentous occasions already. You think that if Tempest ever becomes a major world, this room will hold great historical weight.

Gathered around the table, in two polarized groups, are James' senior Army Officers, ad your newly recruited Space officers and senior NCOs in charge of training.

At the forefront of the latter group is a well-dressed man in a semi-formal uniform vaguely reminiscent of the Commonwealth Navy Commodores Uniform, bronze skin and dark, intense eyes on a notably handsome face and lean frame. From your reports, this is the most qualified man to lead your new Fleet, being the only one with experience commanding a fleet of warships, as well as experience in managing Naval Dockyards and Fortresses.

"Good to meet you, Governor. My name is Dominique Smith, and I am the seniormost Commanding Officer to respond to your recruiting campaign so far."

Dom Smith, as most call him for short, was a rising star in the Commonwealth Navy before some kind of hushed scandal resulted in his resignation. Details are scarce, but it is believed to involve a smuggling ring that had begun sneaking refugees from plague-ridden worlds on the Herod Frontier, with some whispers that senior naval officials were involved. You don't feel particularly warm to him right off the bat, but you don't feel uneasy about meeting his eyes either. If nothing else, he seems honest and grounded.

The remainder are a number of not particularly noteworthy Captains and XOs from the Commonwealth Navy, various independent Navies, Fleets, Orbital Guards, Space Forces and others, and some from Megacorp Security Forces. All have been vetted, and a number of undesirable candidates have been turned away.

James stands, activating a holographic projection on the table.

"My proposal is to somewhat alter our Ground Forces organization, in many ways mimicking the Colonial Marine structure. The main difference will be at the small unit level: Increasing Squad size to fourteen men, organized in three Fireteams, plus a commanding Sergeant. Platoons will consist of four Squads plus a Lieutenant and Senior NCO to serve as his or her right hand. Beyond this point, command structure will remain virtually the same, save for the stipulation that officers will be recruited exclusively from senior NCOs."

"The second proposition is that all recruits for our Armed Forces go through the same Basic Training, basic Space Survival, the basics of crewing a starship, weapons and tactics, advanced hostile environment survival, etc. Recruits are then sent to specialized schools depending upon branch of service: Army, Aerospace Force, Fleet or Navy, Space patrol and possibly some sort of water-based navy. This will provide a base for cross-training, increase cohesion between Armed Forces, and simplify training facilities somewhat."

"This leads into my final proposition: That we pattern our military as a whole after the Rim Confederation and old Sovereign Colonies: More branches of one military than separate Armed Forces. By increasing cross-training, emphasizing cross-service Combined Arms, and including officers from other Services in strategy meetings, I hope to replicate the military culture of the aforementioned nations. Instead of serious inter-service rivalries that grow into suspicion and strife, I believe this will lead into a form of friendly rivalry and competitiveness that will not impede the hoped-for air of cross-service camaraderie and military brotherhood, with increased operational efficiency."

I have a bit of a question about our backstory, has it ever been mentioned just WHY we left the Legions and became a free trader? >Beyond this point, command structure will remain virtually the same, save for the stipulation that officers will be recruited exclusively from senior NCOs

Fine with this, but mention a reserve officer training program (for undergrad students) & officer training academy (for graduates to go fulltime immediately) will have to be set up eventually. The latter should also include trying to train/educate senior NCOs who want to become officers.

>>35740633
>Ask for comment on the last two parts

The first one doesn't concern the naval officer.
>>
>>35740658

That's actually very close. Legion politics seemed to be growing worse every year, the constant bickering and jockeying for position, especially among those no longer actively partnered with a BOLO and exposed constantly to its loyal and businesslike psyche, seeming to eclipse the work of defending humanity.

Finally, it was the dissolving of the tenuous bonds with Varus' fellow Legions and the Colonial marines that you worked so hard to build that drove you to resign at last, despairing of ever seeing the Legions formed into a cohesive whole as they were at the Founding, and aligned with the Marines in solidarity against all humanities foes, both foreign and domestic. The tide had turned, seemingly permanently, in favor of isolated political jockeying and focusing more on internal rivals than the reasons behind the Commonwealths orders.
>>
>>35740733
Just to expand on this. While there is usually a noticeable difference between a green guy straight out of officer school and a senior NCO who became an officer, they're trained for different things and the latter has a higher level of education as a requirement.

That, and I guess it's also because the fact they're so different means they can't count on all senior NCOs wanting to become commissioned officers.

My suggestion is to make the Auxiliary a branch of the local Citizens Militia, with the option of additional Spacer training and service with the Auxiliary instead of groundside service. Their experience in combat and commanding squads simply makes the best officers. Coupled with giving them the same increased training that raw recruits of Officer School receive, to ensure that the basics of combat are deeply ingrained, this would give us a superior Officers Corps."

"The Colonial marines, due to their nature as a virtually separate civilization, have been able to more than fulfill their needs for commissioned officers from their NCO ranks. >Tentative yes for now, and change that in the next 10 years. Maybe make all officer cadets serve a year or two as Specialists before becoming full officers.

I'm fine with it at the beginning. But he has flawed assumptions. Not all senior NCOs (let alone those who want to become a CO) will have combat experience. It also assumes any trained CO will be inadequately trained on commanding soldiers and can't be eased in.

Commanding squads is also vastly different from commanding a platoon and even larger organizations. Officers are also trained to plan missions. It would also mean we'd have a delay in getting new officers since we'd need to make sure they get a higher level education.

Even their training style is different. Officers are responsible for training collectives. NCOs get to actually deal with individuals when they train them.

My suggestion would give the benefits of both worlds. His prestigious position thing will still apply, and all future officers will have some enlisted/NCO experience under their belts. It's a better compromise. I think his position is too hardline and can lead to problems in the future.

Next is James, "As I have stated before, with heavy Infantry support and some air power, the next most important item would be the acquisition of heavy anti-infantry weapons or sentry turrets, followed by man-portable anti-air and anti-armor weapons and mass infantry ground transport. our primary concern at the moment is the Rach, who seem to have switched to a guerrilla campaign of suicidal attacks by their disposable infantry caste in numbers too small to easily detect from orbit, most likely probing our defenses for other purposes or simply waiting for an opening. Couriers only. Several alien races encountered by humanity have possessed FTL communications, but they have either relied on strange powers, psychic or otherwise, possessed by the aliens themselves, or humanity has been unable to trade, steal, or capture the technology.

James' Plan goes into considerable detail, setting promotion lines for non-combat NCOs to promote upwards into non-combat positions (few in an age of automation and limited "Narrow" AIs handling administrative duties at all but the highest levels), and providing extensive training to all new Officers in an attempt to create a superior Officers corps, blending hard front-line experience and personal training from older NCOs with comprehensive classroom and simulation training.

However, your concerns remain, and you will keep an eye on the progress of his plan.

It was 12 C, actually. I forgot to thank the guy who caught that earlier.

In high orbit above your world, a massive, ugly rectangle covered in protruding machinery hangs in the dark, suspended among glittering stars. It is branded with a gaudy AAA Logo, a ship with an exaggerated plasma tail circling a golden planet emblazoned with the signature triple A.

Aboard, a small kiosk, reminding you of section a run-down shopping mall, presents a number of products available for sale:

>Fusion Reactor: 5 C. Produces 2 Power.
>Automated factory, 10 C.
>Pre-Fab Domes for 50,000 Colonists, 3 C.
>Mining Equipment for one pit: 2 C.
>Infonet Lines: 1 C

Upgrades:
>Dome Upgrades will include upgrading your current domes, and all future purchased Domes will be of the same type
>Town Domes: Better built Domes, with better air and water filters, more room, better quarters, and highly superior configurable Marketplaces: 60 C
>Hostile Environment Domes: Heavily reinforced walls, armored against extreme weather, acid rain, and raiders alike. Built to withstand all but heavy artillery strikes, air strikes, and orbital fire, with fortified entrances placed to allow for excellent fields of fire, although not equipped to withstand a full military assault, with a foundation designed to resist terrible earthquakes and determined burrowers: 80 C
>Mag-Lev Lines: High-Speed Monorail train lines to quickly transfer freight and passengers between Domes and mining pits. 70 C.

>Action?
>>

What's the benefits of the Infonet Lines, and how many mining pits do we hae that don't have equipment, and what would the power draw increase of 'em be?
>>

This is incorrect. Food costs are automatically subtracted from income. Buying Hydroponics will increase your income by 1C, due to having cheaper local manufacture.

And here I am, wanting to churn butter.

Both of you have excellent points, and we've got to protect the butter. But remember it's the butter with which we buy your guns.

Getting Repair Bays for our station should be the top military priority sans anything else that comes up in the meantime - baring surprises, teh Army can handle it's current mission while our Navy is in need of an overhaul.

My mind, immediate priority in order is:

Repair Bays
Getting Production to Full Output
Stage 1 Equipment expansion for army.

>>35742799
What's our current coverage? We can skip this if need be.
>>
>>35742813
AAA is expected to sell us Tri Rifles & Combat Armor. But at this point it isn't needed just yet.

>>35742841

>>35742818
If we have the money after keeping 5C stashed, and after getting navy stuff? We should get the Indirect Fire gear. James suggested it and there's a lot of value in it.
>>
>>35742886
Repair Bays
Production Output (We'd need 3 more fusion power plants)
Indirect Fire weapons for the army.

Repair bays aren't an option right now, and we have the opportunity to buy some more power plants and have 'em set up.

Buy 1 more power plant, bank the rest for turn?
>>
Actually, nevermind, my figuring was mostly correct. Just so others can check it over:

You have 10 Reactors, each producing 2 Power.
Every 100,000 Colonists uses 1 Power, Mining pits take up 1 Power (Ignore that earlier bit about Mining Pits coming with mini-reactors, that was accidentally copy-pasted from a description I threw out ad forgot to move the "abandoned ideas" pit). Your capitol Dome takes up 2 power, one for its people and one for running the heavy loading/unloading machinery of the Sky-El. You have 11 Reactors.

The Automated factories, which you have 10 of, use 1 Power each, and Machine Shop uses 2. They will be running at greatly reduced efficiency, reducing profit, until sufficient power sources are installed.

So you need another 6 Reactors to restore full Power, as I originally figured, and then second-guessed myself into confusion.
>>
>>35742936
>>35742921
Correction. We need 6 more fusion power plants.

:v

I still say buy one power plant, bank the rest, put out word we want repair facilities for our starbase - and maybe other power options.

And we're looking to equip our army with indirect fire weapons.
>>
>>35742817

+2. I forgot to remove profits from Automated factories and Machine Shop due to power Shortages, so the total hit in income comes out the same.

I think I've got my head straightened out now, onwards.
>>
>>35742936
Capital Dome: 2 Power
Domes: 6 Power
Mining: ?
Factories: 10 Power
Machine Shop: 2

How much is being used for mining? So far it adds to 20 power

What about rationing power supplies? Essential things like industry, life support, security, etc would have uninterrupted power. Civilians would have rationed power for day & night time.
>>
>>35742958

AAA Reps say they have a line of upgrades for the Tradestation, but hadn't expected you to be buying so soon. It will be available next Quarter.
>>
>>35742886
Thinking too far ahead there. For now focus on immediate concerns and save a list of stuff to get later when we have a steadier flow of income.
>>
>>35742994
I vote we get one more reactor. That leaves us with 7. We"ll get income when the traders arrive anyway.
>>
>>35743014

>Domes: 6 Power
We have 1,000,000 colonists, though.
Where are you getting 600,000?
>>
>>35743032
Our Capital Dome holds 400k people. We have over 1mil colonists, but under 1,100,000. So it'd be 6 power from the normal domes.

>>35743010
In terms of military? I'd go Navy > Indirect Fire for Army. Why indirect fire? James suggested it. That, and we lack anti-armor + artillery at the squad & platoon level. Indirect Fire will give our troops that and take off pressure from our space navy & airforce.
>>
>>35743062
Is our Capital Dome really so efficient that it can provide power for 4 times the normal number of people off of a single Fusion Reactor?
>>
>>35742992

You have a million people. One Power per 100,000=10 Power. 10 Mining Pits, which need 50,000 people to work properly (Each Pit is actually a series of Strip-Mining sites in a roughly circular area, nicknamed "Pits"), but you have double of due to doubled Settlers and Domes.

Factories and Machine Shop are currently offline for want of power, since your Domes need power for Life Support and the Mines need to work to pay your debt to AAA. Reactor #11 is handling the extra power consumed by the loading/unloading bays for the Sky-El, heavy communications devices and headquarters equipment, and other special needs of the Capitol.

Rationing will save 2 Power, but will reduce Morale over time.
>>
>>35743096
So we're at -12 Power?

Lets get one reactor to make that 10.
>>
>>35743096

>Mining Pits x10
-10 Power

>Capitol Dome

Yeah, we need more power plants Geesus. However, we need those trade station upgrades too...

Vote: One Power Plant, and buy one per quarter, situation allowing.

Aside: Should we set up a Central Bank of Temptest to act as an insurer for the smaller banks on Tempest? Require minimum liquid holdings, allow loans to the banks at 'low' interest rates (with minimum loan size we'd make money off of bulk), and some other controls? We want to prevent things like the various bank panics of the 19th century, or the great depression, or the panic of 1907
>>
>>35743096
Could we get Food vNMs from the Free Traders? Something that processes algae tanks into something edible, or use as filler for stuff like sausage. Something that can make cereal out of grains, etc.
>>
>>35743096
Yeah, we need at least one more Reactor this turn.
>>
>>35743122

You purchased one Reactor earlier, which will come Online in 21 days, and bring you to -10.

Even having the Autofactories on standby consumes some power, enough to threaten Blackouts if the Power situation grows any worse, and cold-starting them after total shutdown will take two Quarters (They were shipped out on battery power). After it is brought online, you will be at -10, with the option of bringing online two Autofactories, the Machine Shop, or one Autofactory and eliminating the increased risk of blackouts and disruptions.

>>35743427
The Cantons do not have full autonomy in an EU-like alliance, they are fully subject to the National Government with self-control over internal affairs.

If the Central Government makes fiscal policy it impacts all of 'em. Makes sense to have a Central Bank in this scenario, especially considering our relatively low total population and high density.

During this stage of colonization, a central bank makes more sense than an IMF, although I agree with an earlier anon poster that we can't fully fund it just yet.

My thoughts on a fully-fledged Tempest Central Bank is that it is the 'savings account' of the Treasury, and can authorize x% as loans to smaller banks, and act as an insurance for 'em.

NEW TURN

With the power situation alleviated, things are more or less "normal" for your Colony, although the idling Autofactories lurk in the background like collapsed dinosaurs waiting for someone to remark on in relation to your forward-thinking abilities. Not that you could have actually anticipated this.

You've made sure that Mr. Young is quite clear on your displeasure at being blindsided by power shortages, and it will not be happening again. Or rather, it had better not.

With the Cantons becoming more and more settled, the days of rapid governmental changes seem to have ended. Migration between Cantons is still common, and may become a cultural fixture, as families, especially mining families, move between Domes with work available to live under their preferred government system, sometimes several times as experience alters preferences.

The Rach have been turning it up lately, more and more attacks swarming out of the wasteland, as heedless of losses as ever. James is considering a "Pacification" campaign outside the Secure Region, but is concerned that it may be a trap.

Interrogations of captured Pirates and intelligence from from visiting Traders begins to paint a grim picture: It appears that one of the reasons leading to the strife within Scarrs Fleet was an earlier mutiny by one of Scarrs top lieutenants. His "trusted" right hand man, as a matter of fact. Making off with three Frigates, a Missile Carrier, ad later adding six old Scout ships and a surplus Sparta Class Assault Transport, which he has been using to great effect to attack worlds with strong infantry and armored forces, but little modern artillery or missile batteries. From all accounts he's just as ruthless as his former master, but smart enough to not mistreat his own crew or set his Captains against each other like fighting dogs. A dangerous man, despite his small fleet. You'll have to keep an eye on his forces, lest they grow large enough to threaten you.

There are also reports of other, less wel armed Pirate and Slaver bands in the area, drawn by the increased shipping, along with some Krorkinthan Raiders drifting into this region from the distant warzone. Nothing in your local area yet, but considering that you are pretty much the only thing in your local area, you may not get much warning after they drop off the edge of civilized space.

You do, however, have a line on a BOLO.

A Free Trader dropped the tip just a few days ago, while trying to peddle some cheap Krorkinthan "artifacts" to your Colonists. One Mark XXII, a "Heavy" Mark outfitted with rapid-fire railguns and missile batteries to make a Planetary Defense Station and an Artillery Division jealous. Its AI will be more limited than Scythes, lacking his personality, but still an intelligent, feeling being condemned to a life of drudgery towing ship parts to and fro in an orbital shipyard, assembling cheap bulk freighters forever. A terrible fate for such a mighty war Machine.

The Yardmaster will likely be willing to part with him for 10-15 C, but going there and back will take near a month, and you'll have to charter a freighter to bring him back with you.

On top of that, it's in a sort of... Rough and tumble area. Lots of poorly disguised pirate dens and other assorted Organized Crime. Your reputation will not make you a popular man among the underbelly of the Sycar Systems.

The smiling man beckons for you to enter the back of the Kiosk to view the rest of the products. You can't believe how much charisma this guy puts into a simple gesture.

You do not currently have Spiders. You're not sure why. Spiders are nice. So ordered, so symmetrical. Truly a more evolved form of life.

You follow the smiling man into the dark (Why is it dark? What is this room anyway) he beckons for you to sit (What?) in a bare metal chair, as you inhale deeply of the smell of blood and the sound of skittering legs (WHAT FUCK NO FUCK)

You are in a dark room, you are likely to be eaten by WHATEVER THE HELL WAS MAKING THAT SKITTERING NOISE SHIT FUCK TOO MANY LEGS.

Your Clark Submachinegun has ten rounds, and your Bowie Knife is loose in its sheath.

I'm upset AAA Planetary Industries feels a need to fuck with us when we voluntarily extended our debt by 35 years, have bought things from them and never tried to skirt payment.

Your eyes swivel in the darkness, trying to track every tiny noise you hear.

You key your earpiece as you back up, pulling free your trusty signature Autopistol from a nearby table as you move backwards "Cart, Marshall? Are you there? PRIVATES!/"

"everything is fine, sir", comes the response, delivered in a soothing tone.

"No, everything is not fine. I am alone in a dark room that smells like blood and there is something IN HERE WITH ME. I demonstrably NOT FINE."

"Wait, what?But the ma-OH SHI-"

You hear Trigun fire from down the hall, and skittering off to your left. Oddly enough, the gunfire is coming from in front of you, away from where you remember the entrance being. Probably an echo. You tighten your grip on the legsgrip of your Autspistol, resisting the urge to scratch a sudden itch on your head with its body. You have to keep the eymuzzle pointed out into the dark, after all.

There's a third one I've seen, but I didn't save it, it's not work safe, and even if it were it's of a landwhale who's uglier than the thing he's communitating with's ass. That's three very good reasons why I shall not post that.

You squeeze the trigger, your fingers gripping in a panic. Your gun, however, seems to be jammed, and no matter how hard you try to clear the malfunction, it just stays stuck. Your hands are coated in gun lubricant (Funny, I thought Trusty Autopistol would at least be advanced enough to run dry), and your back is against a wall. Literally. You could haves worn you were backing up towards the exit, but you must have gotten turned around. It sure sounds a lot less like an echo than it did a moment ago.

Soon, you hear boots tramping into the room, as your errant Guards sweep it, going to either shoulder and escorting you at speed out of the the ship. On the way out, you see the body of what appears to be a shockingly crude Bio-Android with a deformed face, beyond where the explosive rounds have ripped half of it away and sprayed bloodless orange flesh and green goo over the wall. Lips to cover its disgustingly fleshy imitation teeth are notably absent. Jesus, is this the guy who went over the product line with you?

You meet Spider at the airlock, his predatory grace on full display as he surges ahead of your Heavy Combat Androids, Laser Rifles held tightly. He glances at you, his head seeming to simply twitch and change position without having to go through that mortal "rotation" thing.

"Sir, what the Hell is that in your hand?"

You look down at the green goop and crushed legs in your hand, the twitching mandibles spasming above a carapace wrecked by your near-panicked attempts to clear a jam. You remember that you don't carry a Autopistol.

Right. We're doubling down on the Rach infestation first chance we get when we return. We're going to do our best to cure the AAA representative from his problems, and send a courier so that they can pick up the ship. We can't afford to be seen as thieves trying to take all the things. Finally, we're going to make sure that we never scratch our head unless someone else is in the room with us.

>Finally, we're going to make sure that we never scratch our head unless someone else is in the room with us.
can we send a search party for my sides? I need them D:
>>
>>35744445
Dude, what? Rach? There's no confirmation who or what did it at all. Do not jump to conclusions for the love of god. It could be AAA, the Cthall or god knows what else.
>>
>>35744477
We've got a set of twitching mandibles/carapace in our hands, and a set of bugs determined to produce new strains to combat us (See known attempts at water-based attack strains). It's the most likely culprit.

You stare at a video screen from inside your quarantine room. The Happy Merchant and its entire crew, dazed and recovering from water dosed with Control pheromones, have been put on lockdown following the sweep N' Clear that eliminated every fucking Spider and bizarre vegetable imitation-Android on that ship. Those that were captured ate themselves, although a few catatonic Rootdroids, as the soldiers are calling them, have been captured.

Hidden away in a cargo bay is a derelict ship, most likely Slaver in origin, the inside of which was overgrown with strange moss. Several pulsating Eggsacks were located within, and destroyed with standard issue ship flamethrowers per standard procedure since the Expansion. The ship had a single Holocom on board, with dozens of hours of digital footage, though badly corrupted. It'll be a few months before your Hackers can clean it up enough to be worth watching, so you can see how these poor bastards ran across the Spiders nest.

Actually, Spiders is kind of a misnomer. According to MacArthurs ghouls, it's actually closer to a Jellyfish with a hard exoskeleton that it works like a machine, sinuous tendrils working levers to propel organic-mechanical legs and bladed mandibles...

Regardless, while you will be out of quarantine soon, no one is buying anything off that ship in the foreseeable future.

Addendum: The actual Rep had been long eaten at that point, his picked bones in a pile with those of a dozen AAA Security with gasmasks and full kit, along with a score of bullet-riddled Rootdroids. Couriers have been dispatched to alert AAA and Commonwealth authorities, and you suspect that their ETA for that fleet will get a little more prompt.

So. What sort of sports do the Neo Tokyo and Jeffersonians have in common? Baseball? It's the ALL AMERICAN pasttime and the Japanese today fairly like it.

Should we set up a sports league?
>>
>>35744534
>>35744544
>>35744549
>>35744557

The Sycar Systems are a notorious collection of worlds, and a pain in the ass for the Commonwealth. An expedition there, especially for a man of your reputation. A lawyer once put his arm around your shoulders and recommended, as your legal counsel, that you go into a certain situation armed to the teeth. You've followed that advice often over the years, and few times has it steered you wrong.

>How many ships do you take, and who will crew them? Some Officers may be needed to fight your ship effectively, but they will also be needed to continue training your Fleet.
>>
>>35744765

Sports, beyond gladiatorial combat for the amusement of the rich, aren't much in favor in the Core World. Neo-Tokyo denizens typically spend what free time they have in virtual dreams.

However, physical activity seems to be making a comeback on Tempest, so maybe you'll see organized Sports too.
>>
>>35744776
What does our CNO suggest? Might as well also make it a training voyage, but we don't want to strip our defences too much.

>>35744788
I want to encourage team-based sports. Baseball, Football, American-Handegg, Basketball, Rugby, etc etc.
>>
>>35744776
Destroyer and a couple frigates. Personal elite bodyguard with us along with some deployments of troops. Heavily armed of course.

we can't afford to take too many ships less it cripple them same with naval manpower.

Going to have to call it a night here, actually. Sorry for being slow-burning and disjointed.

Back again at 9:00 PM EST next week. Goodnight.
>>
>>35744811
Handegg is the superior sport. You know it to be true.

Though Baseball is my favorite. There's just something about the sport that brings a tear to my eye, and I don't really watch any sports.

>>
>>35744860
I get that, I'm just required to support my culture (if only because there's a bunch of people inside my culture doing their level best to convince me that my culture is evil for thinking that the culture that can and does stone women for adultery is evil).
>>
So, as some of you may have guessed, tonight wasn't a good night for me. I was distracted pretty much the entire time. Oddly enough, Thursdays are usually so uneventful that i should be able to run for hours at a time with no interruptions. I'll be starting an hour earlier, at 8:00 PM EST, to make up for todays short and uneventful game.

If our reputation would be a problem, why not have our new captain and the spider get it themselves? we can play dumb and protect them if they get investigated, and I doubt an illegal supersoldier and a captain with a history of smuggling will raise as many eyebrows in a place like that.
