Looking back at your harem…

You can’t take the angels, Karasuba…hahaha, Akitsu and Tatsuko are possible but they aren’t great with subtlety. Akeno…well she throws lighting around, that’s not very subtle either. That leaves Chris.

“Chris,” you say, waving her over, “Wanna help me sneak around and save Kaname?”

Chris looks at you and nods, stepping closer to you.

“A small force is better for a rescue mission,” she says, “I believe you made a good choice.”

She leans in to kiss you once more. (Be careful.)

There’s another flash.

You find yourself sitting next to Chris in the middle of the large airplane, both of you dressed up in similar looking school uniforms. Luckily you don’t seem to have drawn any attention to yourselves, apparently world hopping is invisible nearly all the time except to you. Chris however stands out just a bit, what with her long blonde hair and Germanic features.

There seems to be only one guard at the entrance and he’s not paying very much attention, focusing more on the outside than the inside of the plane. Looking around, you don’t see any more obvious entrances though.

“Chris?” you whisper to her.

“There should be a cargo entrance around somewhere,” she says, glancing at the floor, “But we don’t want to draw attention.”

Can anyone who remembers what happened post a brief synopsis of this scene? It's been a really long time since I read this and my memory tells me that it starts with kids on a plane and ends in a giant robot battle.

“How about we try to find a cargo door,” you say, looking around, “I’d like to not draw attention by taking out a guard.”

“Right,” says Chris, “Hold on…” She starts craning her head around, looking for something. She leans over, pressing herself up against your chest.

“Chris?” you say.

“Sorry,” she says, not really paying attention. Apparently she finds what she’s looking for and then points.

“There,” she says.

Looking, you see a small hatch next to what you guess is a stewardess station.

“Right,” you say, glancing towards the guard, “Let’s go.”

Chris nods, you taking the lead as you both quietly walk towards your destination. Surprisingly or maybe not, nobody pays much attention to you, they’re all apparently distracted by the fact that they’ve been hijacked. Reaching the hatch, you slide a handy curtain over the station, then pull it up easily. Down below is the cargo hold.

“Down?” you say looking up at Chris.

“Yes,” there should be a wheel or some other lower access hatch we can sneak out of.

“Right,” you say, hopping down, landing with a light thump. Chris follows behind you, landing nearly cat-like. As the two of you begin to look, a large side door starts to open. Chris reacts before you do, pulling you in between a set of containers in the back, where the darkness should hide you. It’s a tight fit though and you’re reminded that Chris is…down boy. Rescue Kaname first, hook up with your harem later.

The three men mess with something in one of the cargo boxes for a little, then depart. The door starts to close behind them.

As the door shuts, you and Chris wait a bit and then wiggle out of the crack you were wedged in. As Chris straightens her clothes quickly, you can’t help but go check what’s in the box.

Carefully opening the lid you find…a bomb, a rather big and complicated one at that.

“Chris…” you say, trying not to sound too nervous, “Do you know anything about defusing explosives?”

“What?” she says, walking over to you, “I know a little but why…” she stops talking when she sees what you’re looking at.

“John,” she says, “I do not think that we should try to defuse that bomb. It is much too complicated.”

You kind of agree with her, looking at the thing. But there are a lot of people on this plane and you aren’t sure what’s going to happen to them if you just leave it. However, your priority is Kaname, so maybe you should just set the lid back down and sneak out a nice access hatch.

“Yeah, let’s leave the nice exploding device all alone right here,” you say, carefully shutting the lid and locking it back down. Turning, you find Chris has grabbed a long looking box from a pile of luggage and is pulling it out.

“What’re you doing?” you ask her.

“If this is what I think it is…” she says as she pops open the box.

Inside is an impressive array of weapons, including a set of dueling swords, a pistol and for some reason a radio. You have no idea why all of those things are in there, especially because this is a commercial flight full of students, but hey, you aren’t going to look a gift horse too closely in the mouth.

Chris takes the swords, which are handily in sheaths, hands one to you, takes the gun and the radio for herself.

“I guess I’ll let you lead,” you say, as Chris starts acting more and more like a soldier.

She nods, holding the radio out to you.

“Turn it on and listen,” she says, “But don’t make any calls yourself.”

You nod, following her as you hold the radio near your ear.

It takes you nearly ten minutes, but you find yourself on the outskirts of a set of hangers, near which are a set of new looking vehicles, clashing sharply with the weather worn buildings. You haven’t heard much on the radio besides guards being bored and officers telling them to shut up though.

“I think Kaname is inside those trucks,” says Chris, glancing around, “There are several guards nearby and everywhere else is dark.”

You nod, just as you hear your radio squawk a little. Messing with it finally gets you a slightly garbled if audible message.

“To whoever is receiving this, this is the Tuatha de Danaan, identify yourselves, this is a restricted channel.”

As the guards are distracted by the shot from inside, you duck around Chris and start running towards the strange trailer thing.

Putting the radio up to your mouth you quickly say, “Lotsa bad guys, bomb on plane, rescuing girlfriend.”

You hear what you think may have been a squawk of annoyance, but you drop the radio, letting it clatter to the ground as you pull your sword from its sheath and run up the small set of steps next to the trailer.

Bursting through the door, you find two guards and a lady in a lab coat about to stick Kaname, who appears to be struggling, with a needle of some kind.

Even as the guards turn, you run one through with your sword, the man gurgling and dropping as he slides off, apparently dead or dying already. Huh, guess this world is pretty realistic. Turning, you see Chris has already dispatched the other guard and is now holding the lady in the coat at gunpoint.

Kaname is looking back and forth between everyone, apparently not sure what to think.

Looking at the dead guards, scared lady and Kaname being very clearly and rightfully confused, you say the first thing that comes to your mind.

You realize that what you just said could be taken the wrong way so you lower your sword.

That stops her, just in time for the doctor chick to try a stupid dive for a gun on the floor.

Chris apparently has no qualms about dealing with hostiles, shooting her in the knee cleanly, causing a splatter of blood and a scream from the woman.

Kaname freezes, darting between the crying woman and you.

“Look,” you say, “There’s a lot going on that I don’t have time to explain, but if I wanted to I could pick you up and throw you over my shoulder, I’ve done it before. So please, come with us.”


Kaname looks at you, eyes still wide, before finally nodding.

Grabbing her hand, you drag her, followed by Chris, out of the door.

Dragging Kaname, who is still slightly nervous about the whole random strangers helping her thing, you manage to find one which isn’t locked, slipping inside to find it mostly empty except for three large shapes in the back, which appear to be the mechs like you saw outside, except these are clearly deactivated.

Taking a quick breather, you look at Kaname, who is breathing heavily, and Chris, who seems to be keeping lookout.

“Who…who are you?” she asks, breathing heavily, “Why are you here? What do you want?”
