You awaken in the morning to a very strange sight. It seems you weren’t imagining things when you felt someone snuggle up against you last night, though you have a very long list of suspects. The monsters you met in this glade have all seemed to moved from their spot near the tree over to your sleeping area, forming a rather large pile around and on top of you. Glancing around further, you spot Riolu resting at your feet, as well as Froakie near your head. To your right, you spot the taller figure you spoke with yesterday. It seems that Lisa’s bedroll was moved last night, since you spot her immediately to your left.

There are only a few rays of sunshine poking through the trees so far. It seems you woke up rather early in the morning. That means you’ll probably have enough time to cover a lot of ground today, but first you need to figure out what to do about the sleeping pile you’re underneath.

You briefly consider trying to wriggle out of the pile, though with everyone positioned as they are, you're not sure if you can pull it off.

You consider going ahead and waking everyone up, though it's still rather early. Maybe you should wait and let them sleep in a bit more.

The first one up is Riolu, who finds himself near your feet, and only somewhat surrounded by those in the pile. Taking care, he gingerly crawls away, leaving you to your predicament. He quickly bounds off towards a corner of the glade to begin practicing his form.

The next one to awaken is surprisingly Froakie, though he seems content to continue resting against your head. Shortly afterwards, the sun is beginning to rise over the trees, and you think now would be a good time to start waking up the pile.

You start with one of the smaller creatures resting on your torso. You try gently nudging it, taking care not to hurt the frail looking creature. After a bit of prodding, it props itself up and yawns. You give it a quick pat on the head before scooping it up in your hand and setting it down on the grass nearby. You repeat the process with a few others nearby, and you manage to free most of your upper torso.

Next, you move onto the mysterious figure from yesterday. You consider starting with the nudging, though you can't quite get your arm at a good angle that wouldn't involve just elbowing her in the chest. Instead, you squirm to get one of your hands above herr hair Then, you start patting her head to attempt to wake her.

Pat

Pat, Pat

Pat, Pat Pat

Your arm is getting rather tired, and you're not sure if this is working. Briefly though, you notice her slowly open one of her eyes and then quickly shut it when she notices you. You continue patting, but she seems to be pretending to sleep. After a few seconds though, she blinks her eyes open. You wonder if she'd just woken up then or if she'd been awake earlier.

Before you can ask, she disappears with a blink, and you soon see her standing in the grass nearby. She moves about, gathering the other little ones you've already displaced from the pile.

With that done you flip around to repeat the process with Lisa.

Pat

Pat, Pat

Pat, Pat, Pat

Pat, Pat, Pat-

"Ceil, what are you doing?" Lisa asks, her eyes blinking open.

You scramble for a response for a moment, soon realizing that you were still patting her head as well.

How do you respond?

"Nothing, just waking you up," you say calmly. You were worried you'd sound nervous, but patting her head is really calming your nerves.

Except for when you realize that you're still patting her head. Either way, it'd be even weirder to stop now, so you keep it up.

"Thanks," she replies, "But why are you patting my head? And how did our bedrolls get so close together?"

"I woke up this morning underneath a pile of our new friends here. Maybe they moved one of us?" you say, carefully avoiding the first question.

"Anyway," you continue, "Did you sleep well?"

"Just fine. It was some of the best I've had in a while actually."

At this point, you notice that the figure has gathered up all of the younger ones off of your pile, meaning there isn't anything keeping you down anymore.

Lisa seems to have noticed this as well, and as she begins to stand, you do as well.

"Ceil?"

"Yes?"

"You can stop patting my head now."

You realize that you somehow managed to continue it even while you got out of your bedroll and stood. You slowly retract your hand, averting your gaze.

Glancing around the clearing, it seems the figure is busy gathering fruits and berries from the nearby trees. You watch as she beckons them towards her, and they gently drift down off the branches with a soft glow.

You start gathering up your supplies, and Lisa does the same. Once you get all your gear packed up, you approach the figure to thank her for her hospitality.

She watches you approach and offers her hand, and you focus your aura to better communicate. You express your gratitude for letting you stay. Her reply is a feeling of joy, as well as the images of you and Lisa leaving, the phases of the moon, then you and Lisa returning. You guess she's trying to say that she hopes you'll visit again.

You think back on earlier this morning, and you decide to ask if she was awake when you were patting her head earlier. The response is a rather short burst of embarrassment, humor, and happiness, replaced quickly by a rather unconvincing sense of confusion.

Before you break the connection, she communicates something else to you. She sends you visions of you and Lisa leaving the grove, and then you watch as images of the forest fly by at a very fast pace. Despite barely having time to observe them, you feel a surprising ability to remember the details. Maybe it's to make sure you don't get lost?

After you break off the connection, you gather up Riolu and Froakie and make sure you have all your supplies. You and Lisa head north of the grove, waving back at the group of creatures. They all mimic the gesture, though you're not entirely sure they're familiar with it.

After you walk past the first few trees, they slowly fade from view, and the clearing appears as a large puddle once again.

You take the lead, carefully tracing your way through the woods. The images you gained earlier make it trivial to find your way forward.

You decide to try using your aura skills while on the move once again. Maybe you'll have better luck.

Once you close your eyes, you focus in, trying to get a sense of where things are while keeping up the pace.

As you visualize things with aura however, you realize something else. You can visualize the trees and undergrowth, but you recognize the shape of each one you see. It all correlates to some image the figure gave you earlier.

With that in mind, you begin moving carefully, but surely. The forest floor almost feels second nature to you, and your ability to easily see all the vegetation is helping a lot. You're not sure if you could repeat this performance anywhere else, but as long as you have something to help you reference your location and there isn't anything to trip you up, you feel confident about it.

>Ability increased: Aura Vision III

As you keep walking, you focus in on your companions. Riolu seems to be attempting to mimic you, though without the same level of detail, he has a bit more trouble navigating. His height gives him a better angle on the undergrowth though, and he manages to keep up fairly well.

Lisa is scanning the treeline for any potential surprises, though you can occasionally sense her glancing in your direction as well.

The time seems to pass by quickly as you make your way to the edge of the forest. You open your eyes once you come to the edge, arriving at the foothills of the mountain pass. It's around midday, meaning you should be able to make it to the other side by nightfall. From there, you still need to cross the desert, but your home was getting closer by the day.

After a quick break to eat some rations and drink some water, you begin your trek up the pass. It's rather wide in the foothills, though some of the sections later on were much more narrow, from what you'd heard. Fortunately, the pass primarily wound its way through the valleys, rather than the higher parts of the mountains.

(cont)
>>
Due to that, the chance of a serious fall was rather low, though you think you'll avoid walking while using aura, just to be on the safe side.

Once you have everything in order, you start your way through the pass.

You decide to check up on Riolu and Froakie.

Froakie is resting on your head once again, and he seems a bit more cheerful than usual. You did notice him spending some time swimming in that lake yesterday as well as this morning. It makes sense that he'd enjoy the water. You wonder how he's going to cope once you get to the desert.

Riolu is walking alongside you rather than sitting in your pouch. He occasionally runs ahead to explore an interesting looking rock formation or overhang, mostly to how high he can jump in relation to it. He seems to prefer walking to when your group was traveling by wagon, despite the fact that you usually make more progress with your aura training when you don't need to focus on walking. It seems like Riolu enjoys training his more physical abilities just as much as he enjoys improving his aura based ones.

As you continue along the pass, you reach a more narrow overlook, which passes alongside a rather deep looking ravine. It's only a short distance, but you should still be careful while crossing next to it.

As you're crossing however, you hear a loud screeching cry come from above. You twist your neck to attempt to locate the sound, and flinch as it increases in pitch to an unbearable level. As you clutch your ears in pain, you see a dark shadow swoop down from above, it circles about, and you can barely make out its form. However, while your attention was focused on it, you neglected to notice the large amount of falling rock that the noise had brought down. The landslide begins crumbling the ledge beneath you.

The ground beneath Lisa breaks first, though you quickly grasp her arm to prevent her from falling. You use both hands to try to pull her back up, though while your back is turned, you feel a rock slam squarely into your leg causing you to tumble forward in to the abyss.

You blink your eyes open, finding yourself in a cave. A faint light from above barely makes the room visible. You see Lisa lying on the ground nearby, her Pidgeotto gently nudging her with its beak. You groan as you stand. You're alive, but you feel like you fell off of a rooftop three times.

>Ceil HP 5/10

Froakie and Riolu seem a little less worse for wear than you. It seems they were able to catch themselves and leap down more carefully.

Working your way over to Lisa, you inspect her body for any major injuries. Fortunately, there's nothing major you can notice, but you apply a bit of healing to her just to make sure.

"Ceil? Where are we?" Lisa asks, groaning as she sits up.

"I'm not sure. That monster caused a rockslide and made us fall into the ravine," you reply, glancing around the room further. It seems that this cave is part of a larger cavern system, and there are tunnels leading in several directions.

"Well, I don't think we're going to get back up that cliff," Lisa replies, dusting herself off as she stands, "Especially if that thing is up there waiting for us."

"Maybe, but there might not be another way out."

You dig through your pouch and take out an Oran berry, nibbling at it while deciding your next course of action.

You go through your supplies to make sure nothing was damaged. A couple of your rations were crushed, but other than that, you don't notice any problems. You go ahead and eat the rations as well. It was almost time to have lunch anyway, and while they're still edible, you don't want to keep carrying the crumbs around. You share the rest with everyone else, and the quick snack seems to help a bit.

>Ceil HP 10/10

>Inventory Change: 1 Oran Berry

After you finish putting your supplies back, you decide to head through the north tunnel. Lisa was right that the monster might be waiting, and you don't remember seeing any caves in the foothills. Further into the pass was probably your best chance at finding something useful.

You ready your glaive just to be safe, since there could be anything down here. Once ready, you press onward.

The tunnels themselves are all quite varied in size. You stick to the passages you can fit through, though there are several side passages which seem to wind through it, some small enough only for your monsters, and others large enough for creatures of a much more dangerous size.

Ducking your head, you enter into a rather large cavern. The ceilings are high and there are several outcroppings and overhands of rock. There's even an underground stream which seems to trickle through the area.

However, what catches your attention more immediately are the small monsters which seem to be scattered about the cavern. They don't seem to have noticed you yet, though you feel Lisa tugging you back into the tunnel.

"Ceil. This is very bad."

"What's wrong? Do you recognize those things?"

"Only from what I've heard. If I'm right, those things are Bagon. They're dragons, but they're still young."

"Could be tough to get around them, but I think-"

"It's not them I'm worried about, it's that I think I've figured out where we are."

(cont)
>>
"My dad used to tell me stories when we went hunting in the desert. He said some of the dragons that live there dig large tunnels underneath the ground where they nest. He also said that those tunnels connected with other natural ones in the mountains, and that they even continued all the way to the sea!"

"You're not suggesting that we're in those tunnels?"

"If we are, then we need to be very careful," she states, "Though if I'm right, then following these tunnels north should get us to the desert, assuming all goes well."

With that settled, you glance back at the room with the Bagon. That was the direction you needed to go, though you needed to find a good way past these things.

Singling out the closest one, you toss a pebble to get its attention. It turns and faces you, sniffing at the ground. Then it slowly stomps over in your direction.

You inch closer to the Bagon, trying not to make any sudden movements that would-

You suddenly feel all the wind being knocked from your lungs. It seems the Bagon suddenly lunged at you, knocking you backwards into the wall.

>Ceil HP 6/10

It winds back before exhaling a gout of flame, but Froakie quickly intercepts it with a stream of bubbles. Riolu bounds off of the cave wall, getting behind it. It wheels about quickly, and Riolu smacks it in the face a few times for good measure.

Lisa's Pidgeotto doesn't seem like it can really assist in these narrow tunnels, so Lisa instead sends her new monster into the fray instead. It scampers forward rather quickly, striking as best it can with its tail and paws.

The tiny dragon unleashes another burst of fire to get them to back off, and manages to give itself some room. It looks somewhat injured, though you notice a few of the other Bagon in the room are taking notice of the bright flames.

I'll second this. We need a guide, and a Bagon would work the best down here.

You give Riolu and Froakie a quick pat on the head, a silent thanks for their hard work.

Then you focus in with your aura on the Bagon you fought. All of them are rather dull and muted, andd not quite as vibrant as when you saw them before. What you do notice is that the Bagon Lisa shot earlier seems to still be alive, if just barely. You could take that one, but you're not sure if you'll be able to save it.

>Take the heavily injured Bagon (1d20)
>Take one of the other three

After you make your choice, it's a simple matter to cross the room. With the lower number of Bagon, there are plenty of gaps to exploit as you move for the far exit. Once you reach it, you squeeze through the narrow tunnel for a ways, eventually reaching a tiny alcove where you decide to rest for a moment.

You gently place the injured Bagon down on the cave floor, and begin channeling your energy into it. You watch closely with aura as it stabilizes, though it doesn't seem to have regained consciousness.

Healing takes a lot out of you, so you decide to eat an Oran berry as well.

>Ceil HP 10/10

>Inventory Change: 0 Oran berries

You focus in with your aura on the Bagon. Even if it's unconscious, you should still be able to communicate with it.

You start to get images. Images of the cave, images of fights, images of leaping from the high points in the room and crashing into the floor. The image of a gargantuan dragon with blood red wings. You're also overtaken with an intense desire for flight. It's overpowering, like it's going to burst out of your chest.

focusing on more recent events, you try and see what it thinks of you. It thinks you're scrawny. It thinks you're whiny. It thinks Froakie is annoying. It thinks Riolu is a way better fighter than you. It thinks Sentret looks tasty. It thinks that the dragon that shot its tooth at it is a coward, but strong. And just for a moment, you get a glimpse that it thinks you helped it fly, just for a moment.

How would you like to convince this Bagon to help you, and for how long?

Tell it we helped it fly for a moment, and it'll never learn to fly in a cave. It should go on an adventure, see the sky, and fight other stronger things. If it comes with us, we can help it get strong, we can help it fly again one day.
If it helps us on our journey, we'll do everything we can to help it fly.

You communicate the thoughts that you could help it fly. Your memories of the sky above, of high mountains and towers. Of all the flying creatures you've seen so far. Of powerful foes that would help it grow stronger.

You wait a moment, as it seems the Bagon ponders you suggestion, picking apart the images you've shown him. Eventually, it offers what seems like affirmation. It has agreed to help you on your journey.

You thank it, then release your focus. You're back in the cave, next to Lisa and the unconscious Bagon. It rouses from its slumber a few moments later, though a quick peek at it's aura reveals its still somewhat weak.

Before you can offer any protest, it barks at you sharply, before stomping down the tunnel northward. You quickly gather your gear and follow after it.

You've got a new monster in your group, though escaping these caves is still your first priority. Hopefully your new companion can help find a way out.

And that's where I'm gonna have to call it. Thanks for playing. I'll be up for another 30 minutes or so for questions or comments.

Yeah. Sorry for the extremely long gap. Once I fell out of the rhythm it just spiraled from there.
