Somewhere on the edge of a black hole, near the Grangold system, a battle was waged. On one side lay an entire Rak’gol fleet, comprised of a hellish mixture of Marauders, Butchers, and Manglers. Somehow they had concealed their presence amid the Hulk and the general Warp phenomena surrounding the Obscenity Engine. Even more impressive, the assemblage of primitive, haphazardly-assembled ships of war outnumbered their opponents ten to one. Said opponents were a single Blood Raven Battle Barge, the Slayer of Raptor, the Faithful Inferno, and the Obscenity Engine itself. In other words: the Rak’gol stood no chance.

Now the remains of their vessels drift in space, torn apart largely by Volkite Macrocannons, Electromagnetic Railguns, and Graviton Torpedos from the Engine. The wreckage adds to that of the Space Hulk which is currently in the process of being eviscerated into oblivion by the black hole. Salvage crews from all four ships are already working around the clock, leaving you to deal with the aftermath of having claimed a new Flagship.

There’s a lot to do before getting underway again. Between setting up your new suite, checking in on the girls, exploring the Engine, and playing Admiral/Inquisitor. you’re sure to be busy. So much for trying out that sleep thing again. Good thing daemons don’t need it.

Welcome to Khornette Quest.

If you’re a die-hard lover of canon, I suggest you turn away now. Like all things 40k, the gauntlet runs from “worshipping the printed word” to “over the top silliness.” Most of the time it’s somewhere in between. You’ve been warned in advance.

All rolls go against a specified characteristic in the style of Black Crusade. You’ll want to roll under the characteristic value in order to pass the check. The more degrees of success (every multiple of 10 counts as 1), the more awesome of a result. A 1 is a guaranteed success, and a 100 is a guaranteed failure.

Best of three rolls when it’s called for, with a 1 or a 100 instantly taking precedence. If multiple characteristics are being rolled for, each 1d100 counts for its respective test. Any rolls prior to the call for one and those not linking said post will be ignored.

You may burn (i.e. gone forever) 10 infamy to completely reroll a check (i.e. three new 1d100). If you have above 10 infamy, you are allowed a single additional 1d100 roll for any check during a session.

If you have any questions/etc, now’s the time. I’ll push the first update in about 10 minutes after responding to a bit of feedback from last week and some housekeeping.

Excessive meta/whining/waifu’ing/etc goes to QTG. Blatant Samefaggotry will be ignored.

You may find this 4chanX filter list useful: http://pastebin.com/QxMu8Rrr

In no particular order, here’s some generalized responses from those that’ve been submitted to the G-Doc and via email:

> I get that the Rak’Gol were epic and all, but was it really time for the Bloodthirster upgrade? I kinda would have liked to see more arcs first.

This is a fair point. It was one of those things where the timing just seemed right: A sufficiently epic battle (complete with backdrop) that coincided with obtaining a very important and powerful relic. Also I hadn’t really handed out infamy for awhile so it was kinda stacking up. That said, the next upgrade (Daemon Princess @ 90) will be a long time coming (10+ threads unless I need to speed things up). Speaking of, the quest “ends” at 120 infamy. You’ll start to understand why after a conversation with Ignitrix this session.

> Will other characters besides the daemon trio have oneshots or sessions run from their POV?

To be honest that’s largely up to you all. The big two (Ignitrix and Acerea) definitely have “priority” simply because I can move the story along while they’re in control. That said, if people like Sytili or really want to see Commissar Tigurius silently executing people, it can happen. We’ll talk more about it at the end of the session.

> Thanks for running. It’s a lot of fun!

I don’t usually respond to this sort of thing (feels like gloating tbh) but thanks. Encouragement is always great.

~~~
Small bit of general housekeeping:
The changes to Cinder’s sheet are complete. Note the fact your Daemon-fusion armor grants a rating-20 forcefield and that your warp chains now test at BS+25
Acerea’s sheet has been “finalized” in preparation for her oneshot.
If anyone knows a good program/site that will mimic FFG’s stat block formatting, lemme know. I’d like to give you all BC-compatible stats for the main three.
Onto the actual content!
“...There. That should do it.”
Ignitrix wipes her forehead with one of her taloned hands and steps back from the reinstalled AI core. Immediately following the destruction of the last Rak’gol vessel she beelined here with you in tow. She’s been working nonstop for the past couple of hours on it, giving you time to get a handle on your new body.
“So no more homicidal AI then?” you ask as you continue to flow through a rigorous training form consisting of mock blows and dodges.
“No more homicidal AI,” confirms Ignitrix. “I’ve limited its functions to the bare essentials just in case though. It’s more a glorified computer than an actual free-thinking entity now. Anyways…”
She turns to face the holomap just as it winks into existence. “Your new quarters are here.” A room just below the main bridge illuminates. “I’ll be taking the one across the way and fashioning something in a corner of the Drone Bay. Acerea’s probably going to stick with her Tyranid friends if I had to guess. They’re already spreading out across decks eleven and twelve.”
“I see…” You stare at the map and watch as little red lights wink in and out of existence both inside and outside the Engine. What few Rak’gol remained alive were slowly being executed by Sytili’s swarm and the anti-boarding defences.You imagine the rest of your “fleet” is dealing with similar situations, albeit on a smaller scale.
“That’s all I have really. Now unless you have a pressing need to gloat about your patron handing out headpats, I’m going to go relax.” The feathered daemon sounds exhausted more than anything else. Your keen ears pick up a small bit of jealously and curiosity as well, though muted. There hasn’t really been time to give her the details of what transpired with the Shaman and with Khorne given how focused she’s been on her work.
Before Ignitrix can get more than two steps towards the door, you intercept her. “What are you…” she says in alarm as your hand extends. Her face goes crimson when she realizes you’re giving her a headpat.
“I don’t think I say thank you enough. So thanks, Iggy.” Who says Khornates don’t have empathy? Well the Imperium, Nercon, Tau, and Eldar might but fuck them.
“Mmrphm… Are you going to follow me around all day then?” The tiredness is still there but she’s definitely perked up a bit.
You retract your hand and shrug. “Well I need you to at least help me with my suite. I am not Lazerus or you. My first attempt at a bloodbath was little more than welded metal and a freshly squeezed corpse.”
“Ah. Well come along then. Might as well walk and talk.” She makes for the door again but this time you merely follow in her wake. You’d walk beside her if you weren’t so large and the corridors so small. As it is you have only a few feet of play in the most narrow of them. Something Ignitrix is keen on pointing out. “So it’s not all great being large and in charge, is it?”
A laugh escapes your lips. “It’s pretty great actually. Better than being a small acolyte like you.”
“I…” Her feathers reflexively try to stand on end before she catches on. “I don’t know why I asked. I knew you’d say that but I asked anyways. I must be losing my touch…”
She shakes her head and rubs her eyes carefully as the pair of you step into a lift. You nudge her a little before replying. “Nah, you planned all this right? Something about it leading to more headpats?”
“...Sure. Let’s go with that. Because I don’t really have the energy right now to argue otherwise.”
“Just as planned,” you tease.
“I hate you,” she responds.
“No you don’t.”
“Hmph.”
Several minutes of silence pass before you try redirecting the conversation.
>>
>>35713765
“I’ve been wondering, Iggy, you’ve met with Tzeentch himself before, right?” you ask, not really sure how to begin about your own encounter.
“Yes…why?”
“I was just trying to see what yours was like in comparison to mine. It was definitely different from what I expected.” You scratch the back of your head, remembering the headpat tendered to you.
The lift comes to a stop and the doors open. As you filter out behind Ignitrix, she sighs once more. “I don’t really know how much I should tell you but it’s been one of those days. Not like I’m telling you my true name or anything. I suppose mine was odd as well. He wasn’t on his throne or in the form I expected.”
“I’d say an actual face to face meeting is pretty odd, yeah. Which is why I guess I’m not entirely sure how to respond to it myself.”
She turns around and continues to walk backwards while still talking to you. “So it wasn’t like your first meeting at the base of the Skull Throne then?”
You shake your head. “Not at all. It felt more like he’d pulled me aside for a quick fireside chat than anything else.”
“Hrm…” Ignitrix rubs her chin in thought. “Out of curiosity, how would you describe his form?”
“Everything you could ever want from a warrior: Imposing size, armor covered in blood of his enemies, a massive swor-”
“Focus, Cinder.”
You shake your head and clear your thoughts. “Right, sorry. He was his ‘usual’ self but only about twice my size. He should have been impossibly large though. When he was on the throne he was larger than the Warp itself. Or that’s how it felt.”
Ignitrix’s eyes narrow and she comes to a stop. “Okay hold on a second. I need to do something.” Her brow furrows as she waves her hands in a complex pattern. A second later your connection to the Warp is entirely cut off, like you’re literally hugging Tigurius.
Reflexively you snarl, “What did you-”
“Hush. We can’t have THEM hearing. Of course they might like that but I have my reasons. I don’t like it anymore than you and I used to be mortal.”
So it’s just a temporary, localized block of the Warp then. You figured she’d be able to do something like that but it doesn’t make you anymore pleased she did so without warning. “What’s so important to keep from prying ears then?”
“Look,” she presses a talon against her chest for emphasis. “My meeting was basically Tzeentch telling me I’m next in succession. Or that’s the conclusion I’ve come to after all this time. Maybe it’s all apart of his grand plan but the usual signs of it are missing. My point is that MAYBE you’re dealing with the beginnings of something similar.”
I can't possibly fathom either being CHOSEN as next in succession... rather then being chosen as a CANDIDATE.
A myriad of thoughts and responses flurry through your mind. Unable to focus on one, you remain silent. Ignitrix takes your concerned stare as a sign to continue. “I know, it’s absurd. Why us? Why would THEY of all beings care about something so mortal as heirs or replacements? I mean… not to gloat, but in my case it sort of made sense. I’m the only one to defeat his maze after all. You though? It could be that he’s got a series of champions in mind. Perhaps this is his way of saying ‘Welcome to the Tournament’ or something.”
“Mrm. Had I simply been given the chance to present the skulls I’ve taken… It’s strange. Damned strange. He doesn’t just ‘meet’ with his daemons to raise them up. It’s supposed to just ‘happen.’ Yet this conspiracy you have in mind?” You fold your arms across your chest. “It’s more likely he’s trying to select some daemon worthy of being his next champion.”
“And that might very well be the case. But I wouldn’t write off what I said so easily. If I know Khorne half as well as I do the Lord of Change… Well, just think about it. I’m sure you’re thrilled to know others are coming for your head at least.”
“Oh most definitely. Now can you get rid of this?” You motion around at the air around you.
“Of course. Sorry for springing it on you.” She genuinely seems apologetic about it. The null field collapses with a flick of her wrist and leaves you no worse for the wear. “Now then, we’re almost to our new suites. Think you can figure out how to work a STC on your own?”
Your limited knowledge of the Imperium leaves you at somewhat of a loss. “STC… STC… you mean those computers capable of making whatever you wanted?”
Ignitrix smiles and tilts her head slightly to the right. “Indeed. A Standard Template Construct was basically a large database of technological wonders for colonists back in the Dark Age of Technology. The Engine here is equipped with a limited Constructor. Combined with the newly rewritten AI it should be able to come up with plans that would make Lazerus jealous.”
“Huh. How do I work it though?”
“Oh it’s all voice activated. Come on, I’ll show you.” She waves you towards her suite. The doors open before her to reveal a completely barren room contained by four metal walls. Turning, her wings flare impressively. “Now pay attention.”
The Lady of Change coughs and speaks aloud to the room. “Computer?”
“YES, MADAM IGNITRIX?” A androgynous voice of the same inflection as Shiela speaks from somewhere in the ceiling. Madam Ignitrix though? Cute.
“I’d like you to furnish this room with four chairs, a table, and a cabinet. Use oak and keep the style appropriate to that of a meeting room.”
Even with that vague description, the room begins to spring to life. Seemingly out of the floor itself rises a collection of furniture matching her specifications. In all, the room goes from a grey wasteland to an ornate-looking conference room.
“See? Just that easy,” says Ignitrix. She practically floats over to a chair before collapsing into it. “The more specific you are the more complex the pattern it makes will be. Any material you want will be matched as closely as possible so long as it’s not impossible.”
“Will it call me Mistress or is that something only you…”
“Computer, I need a pillow. Preferably aerodynamic.”
You smirk and prepare for the inevitable projectile. To your surprise, it sails past your head far faster than you had expected. “Alright, I get it. You’re cranky. I’ll leave you alone,” you needle. “I’m keeping the pillow though.”
“It’s not like I can’t make twenty more…”
“Fair enough. I’ll check on you later once you’ve had some ‘beauty sleep.’ Khorne knows you need it.”
“COMPUTER…!”
You backstep out of the room just in time. Nine impacts thunder against the door as it closes, metal in design. You suppose that’s enough teasing her for now anyways. Besides, you have many other things to deal with today that aren’t Ignitrix.
As you consider where to begin you wander into your suite, picking up the pillow along the way. Like how Ignitrix’s room started, it’s void of any decoration or accoutrements. You could always decorate now but there is the matter of the Tyranids and Acerea. The Blood Ravens and your other two ships need to be handled as well. If only so the former doesn’t steal everything while you’re not looking.
Space Marines are notoriously independent, and the Blood Ravens more-so than most.
Remember, this thing also has warp fuckery in it, and you want to bring it to one of the bastions of humanity? Where it can corrupt Mars?
Hell, we can even play off that, as we're trying to keep it safe from the notoriously reckless admechs. Oh, but there is still some value to it. Look at these items we found! They make you stronger/faster, and are just barely not heretical. Inquisitor's guarantee!
The Blood Ravens are probably your most pressing concern. It’s only logical that you deal with them before they become a bigger thorn in your side than they already are. You can only imagine what sort of conversations are going on aboard their Battle Barge, especially given the fact they just witnessed the power of a Dark Age of Technology ship firsthand. The only reason you got them to leave you alone after the battle was because you invoked your rosette and told them you’d contact them. So far they’ve listened but you’re about 85% sure that’s because they’re currently looting a majority of the salvage outside.
Clearing your throat, you test your voice. Good thing too. A click of the vox earlier would have seen you unleashing a voice unmistakably daemonic at them. You shake your head and open the comm. The Chaplain from earlier answers.
“Ah Madam Inquisitor. We have been waiting eagerly for your call. We have combed the Codex Astartes, our own Mandate, and what materials we have on the Inquisition. All three sources are quite clear: We must bring a delegation aboard at once to secure and cleanse the ship of whatever Warp taint exists. From there we must…”
“You must shut up and listen,” you state, shutting him up. “That ‘Warp Taint’ is precisely what I’ve been dealing with all this time. I will not have men in red power armor traipsing about thinking they know better than someone from the Ordo Malleus and interfering with my work.”
“But Madam Inquisitor, even your own Ordo’s rules clearly state…”
“Why in the ever loving hell do you have access to that anyways?”
He doesn’t answer your question. Instead he sidesteps it with ease, “I repeat, do we have permission to come aboard with a purification team?”
> [1] No. And if you have access to those rules you know what happens if I have to invoke the Rosette again. (S)
You growl in annoyance before answering. Your luck could only be pushed so far and your words only disarm so many foes. Plus with Ignitrix probably out cold in her room, you’re down a pilot.
“Fine. You may send TWO squads over. Ensure they do not have psykers among their ranks. If I have to execute another daemonhost-to-be YOU will share their fate.”
“This is highly irregular. However given the pervasiveness of the corruption it may be for the best. I believe I speak for all here in that we would prefer not to lose such a valuable vessel to Chaos.”
You snort off-mic. If only they knew. “Speaking of Chaos, we will be discussing why you have knowledge of things you shouldn’t. Especially given your Chapter’s past transgressions.”
You kill the line before he can get another word in. Either he’s deliberately pushing your buttons or he’s volunteering to be the first Marine thrown out of an airlock sans head. Regardless, you need to talk to Acerea. There’s just one problem: you have her microbead.
“Khorne damn it,” you mutter as you look around your still-barren room. As your eyes drift to the ceiling, you get an idea. “Computer… can you facilitate a comm link between myself and Acerea?”
“CERTAINLY, HIGH MISTRESS CINDER. ONE MOMENT.” You start to feel a little bad about ribbing Ignitrix earlier. She clearly thought ahead. That or the AI’s remarkably fast at picking up cues.
A low beep is followed by Acerea’s voice filling the room. “Well hello, Cinder. What can I do for you~?”
“There’s about to be a delegation of Blood Ravens in Shuttlebay one. I need you to go down there and see to it they ‘accidentally’ end up killed. Use the Tyranids or the servitors or whatever you want. Hell use Shiela if you’d like. The point being we have to sell the fact this ship is highly dangerous and that they’re not prepared to deal with it.”
“My, someone’s fond of keeping up appearances. I can easily do that. I assume you’d like me to look a little more human though?”
“If you can, yes. Iggy’s asleep and I’d rather not have to wake her up.”
“Awww, how cute. But yes, I can change my appearance enough that, with a cloak or proper covering, they’ll mistake me for human. I’ll talk to Sytili here and come up with a plan.”
“Thanks, Acerea. By the way, try asking the computer for a microbead or something. It might be able to make you one even down… wherever you are.”
“I’ll do just that. Talk to you in a bit, sweetie.”
Proditus might be relatively useless these days but he is your main line of communication to the Raptor. Might as well bring him up to speed and handle matters over there best you can.
A quick pulse of your microbead has his quivering voice on the channel in short order. “Y-yes? What can I do for you, Mistress?”
“How are things over there? Any Rak’gol get aboard?”
“Not as far as we know…”
“Good, keep it that way. And the Salvage Crews? Will Lazerus and Wormbag have enough raw materials to keep them busy for awhile?”
He hiccups twice. “M-Maybe. The Blood Ravens are terrifyingly efficient at it. We’ll be lucky to get perhaps twenty percent of what’s there.”
“For the love of… I expect twenty-five percent or I’ll return to deal with you myself.”
“You’re not coming back?”
“No. I see little reason to visit the Raptor short of visiting Lazerus or Wormbag. Both of which will manage fine without me and know how to reach me should my attention be required.”
Give Acerea's Gardens to Lazerus and Some other area of the Ship to Wormbag. Should let them expand their operations while leaving the ship under the command of a total puppet...
You weigh your potential options. The longer you consider it, the more you realize it’s best for Lazerus and Wormbag to remain out of management. It’d hinder their work. “Tell Tigurius he’s in charge. But he doesn’t get my old suite. That’s staying as is for when I decide to visit.”
“Are you sure that’s wis-”
“ARE YOU QUESTIONING ME PRODITUS?” you shout, channeling some of your frustration surrounding the Raven problem at him. Unfair perhaps, but that’s his problem not yours.
“N-n-n-n-n…”
“USE YOUR WORDS.”
“No M-m-mistress!”
“Good. Now go tell him we might need the Raptor to fire on the Raven’s Barge if things go south over here. Have him coordinate with the Inferno as need be.”
“What about the fact he can’t talk…”
“FOR THE LOVE OF KHORNE PRODITUS YOU ARE ABOUT THREE SECONDS FROM…”
A long eep fills the channel and then a pop. If you had to guess, he’s thrown and broken the vox unit he was using. The idiot. The next time you’re over there you’ll be at least beating some sense into him. Possibly more. In the meantime, you’re sure either Lazerus or Wormbag will help the ex-Commissar deal with the lack of a voice. Or take over should it be required. Honestly you’re not too concerned with it at the moment. They’ll manage or they’ll face your claws. Trial by fire, as it should be.
Speaking of fire, Shiela’s voice of all things fills your microbead. “HIGH MISTRESS, LADY ACEREA IS REQUESTING USE OF MY SERVICES. SHALL I ASSIST?”
Oh right, you never took her off autopilot.
Although you trust in Acerea to do her job, you have pent up anger that needs releasing. Hopefully you’ll be able to avoid actual combat but you’re definitely not opposed to it should the need arise. For the moment, you’ll stick to observing via the camera feeds from somewhere on Deck Eleven. That way you’re nearby if/when a problem arises.
It takes you close to ten minutes to get situated. Along the way you end up scaring some Gaunts but they quickly get out of your way. No signs of Sytili but you imagine she’s nearby.
As for the Ravens, you see that they’ve sent not two but FIVE shuttles filled to the brim. Already Acerea’s interfacing with what you assume is the Chaplain from before and the Captain. She seems highly vulnerable, surrounded on almost every side by idiots in red power armor. Even worse? At least three of them are somehow sporting blessed Bolters that should only be in the care of Grey Knights. Despite all of that the plaguebearer’s keeping her cool.
“...No the Madam Inquisitor is currently trying to stabilize the engines. It’s highly involved work and necessitates her full attention.”
The Captain shakes his head. “Forgive me Acolyte but it is urgent we speak with her face to face. We have reason to suspect she’s in danger of being corrupted by this vessel, if not already so.”
Acerea chuckles and waves her right hand about airily. “Inquisitor Cinder isn’t the type to be so easily swayed by Chaos. Like certain Chapters. But if you insist, I shall try to reach her…”
Her hand taps at her ear, “Madam Inquisitor, do you have a moment? Captain Gallienus wishes to make sure you’re still human.”
“Am I to assume he can hear me now?” you ask, not sure if she’s put her microbead on speaker or not.
“One moment, Madam Inquisitor.” Another tap sees her smiling. “You may speak to the Captain directly now.”
You clear your throat and pour every ounce of authority and frustration you possess into your next words. “Captain Gallienus, it’s RATHER suspicious that you keep interrupting my VITAL work to prevent this ship from becoming a literal gateway for daemonkind. Do you have ANY idea the amount of protective wards you’re suggesting that I break just to state your ‘demand’ that I, an Inquisitor of the Ordo Malleus, prove my purity? Removal of even a single one could see the spawning of some unholy abomination. But please, tell me MORE. Because right now you’re running dangerously close to trying my patience.” That last part’s a lie, but he doesn’t need to know that you’re already wanting to rip off his head.
Gallienus simply hefts his bolter to a more comfortable position. “My apologies for interrupting your progress. But if we cannot verify your purity we will be taking this ship as mandated by the highest of authorities.”
“And what in the name of the Emperor might that be?”
He smiles. The smug fuck smiles. “Our chapter mandate, of course.”
Heresy. But the kind of heresy that you can’t easily turn to your favor. Or is it?
They'll have everyone on their ass, the rest of their chapter (so as to not be associated with them), the AdMech (because they want the STC damn it!), the =][= (obviously), and pretty much all the other SM forces.
You give pause for dramatic effect. “Fine. Acerea bring them down here. And pray that…” You cut off the line with a burst of static. Moments later you feel Sytili brush against your mind.
<So I take it you’d like us to herd him towards you?>
<Indeed. Also I need a bit of blood and something that’ll pass for human meat. Know anything?>
A certain plaguebearer’s voice “joins” the “call.” <I do~! Sytili, have a Gaunt bring her two of my Bloodblooms. That should be more than enough. We’ll be there in five minutes.>
You push their minds away and focus on making the corridor you’re in look convincing. Deep gashes on the wall, a few bolter round impacts, enough to make it seem like there was a fight. Once the Gaunt arrives, Bloodblooms in its mouth, you split the fruit open and coat the area with more ambience. The final piece is to leave your corrupted Rosette in the middle of the fake meat and plasma.
Well, second to last piece. “Computer,” you ask aloud. “I need you to blanket jam all vox frequencies leaving the Engine until I tell you otherwise. I assume you’re capable of such?”
“AFFIRMATIVE.”
“Then do it.”
“VOX JAMMING ENGAGED. INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS WILL NOT BE AFFECTED.”
Excellent. That just leaves you waiting for the Captain to arrive. You take up a lounging position in one of the vent access alcoves near the staged scene. In the distance you already hear the thunder of Shiela’s cannon and the shrieks of Tyranids. It won’t be long now.
>>
>>35720972
The sound of a melta grenade exploding around the corner draws your attention. The Captain, followed by five of his fellows, dives around it and towards you. Their backs still turned, they haven’t noticed you yet. “Good,” Gallienus gasps. “That will buy us some time to loop back to the shuttles. I knew this was a trap from the moment she had us seal our boxes. No Inquisitor would dare ask that of us.”
“Wouldn’t they, though?” you casually remark, idly staring at your claws. All six marines visibly jump at the sound of your obviously daemonic taunt. Though their heads are all encased within their helmets, you can feel their discomfort as they take in the scene and your form.
One of the braver underlings tries to raise his bolter. You immediately flick your wrist and send warp chains flying out towards it. They wrap around the weapon, rip it out of his hands, and sends it flying into your waiting free hand. “Ah, the Imperium and it’s toys…”
You look the bolter over, making sure to look as unimpressed as possible. Then you crush it like it was nothing. “Too bad. Your Inquisitor was right. All it took was one slip of her concentration to worm inside her head. Poor thing put up a good fight though. I’ll enjoy eating her soul for eternity…”
The Captain steps forward, raising his own bolter. He had stones, you had to give him that. “Then our main problem is you then. We remove you then the rest will be easy. Prepare for death, foul daem-”
“Oh I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” you say nonchalantly. “You see I have every memory that the Madam Inquisitor had. That means I know about your little heretical slip-up minutes ago. You wouldn’t want that getting out, would you?”
He laughs, his helmet amplifying and distorting the noise. “You have no means to do so. We’ve already tried radioing our barge for assistance. It seems the Madam Inquisitor defies you even in death.”
(cont)
>>
>>35720987
You roll your eyes. Good thing he’s dense. “You seem to forget I’m a DAEMON, dear boy…” Hoping off of the ledge you’re sitting on you stride forward towards them. Each step sees your tail swinging powerfully and sensually behind you, along with your rear spikes. The Ravens visibly recoil and raise their weapons. Those that have them anyways.
“Ah ah ah…” you tut, ripping all of them free with a single swipe. “We can’t have that…”
“KNIVES!” shouts the Captain. Only three of them, including him, manage to draw the weapons.
“Oh that’s adorable! You have little daggers!” They’re easily the size of their gauntleted fists but it just wouldn’t do NOT to insult them at this point. You haven’t had much chance to turn on the daemonic terror bomb before now. It’s really, REALLY fun. “Well come on then. Try and slay one of Khorne’s finest. I’ll even make it interesting and fair: I won’t use my arms.”
The moment your arms go behind your back, the Ravens roar in collective anger. They leap forward enmasse and attempt to pin you against one of the walls. You easily sidestep all six of them. Behind you, your tail lashes out, the brass-coated tip opening large rends in their armor. They’re not deep enough to actually wound them though. “See? No hands and I’ve already opened up your precious armor like it was nothing. How DO you expect to slay me then, hmmm?”
Vaguely, you’re aware of Acerea musing <My my, someone’s having fun~>
Another charge from the marines sees you barely moving from your current position while completing the destruction you started. Everything below the Ravens’ waist crashes to the ground, completely useless. “Why you…!”
“Hey I’m not a daemon of Slaanesh. Keep your pants on boys. Or don’t. Either way you’re about to die. Alone and far from the light of your Emperor. Unless…”
You once again pause for dramatic effect. As predicted, the Captain takes the bite. “Unless what, daemon? We sacrifice ourselves to you? Scavengers we may be but at least dying here prevents my Chapter from falling.”
“Hrm… see you THINK that. I wager that between what I have from the Inquisitor, the Rogue Trader sitting kilometers away in his ship, and this vessel, you’ll soon find your entire Chapter under siege for heresy. Face it, boy. You have no choice BUT to serve me.” One of you claws reaches out and slashes off his helmet. His grizzled face is lined with shock and fear. Good.
(cont)
>>
>>35721421
“I…”
“Take your time. I have plenty of it. You, on the other hand, have until the Tyranids clear the rubble. Or so I wager anyways.”
With that you turn away, leaving your back to them. You confidently walk back over to the rosette and pluck it up. “Tick tock, tick tock…”
A knife goes sailing past your head. Grabbing it midair, you throw it over your shoulder right back at the Raven who threw it. He dies instantly as the blade severs his neck from his body. “Should I take that as your response, Captain?”
You glance over your shoulder slyly just in time to catch the moment when his resolve breaks. “Fine. If it means we can have some of this ship’s technology, we will serve you.”
“Ahhhh, see now we’re getting somewhere!” You round on him with daemonic glee. “But I think you’ll find I’m rather hesitant to part with my toys so easily. Perhaps if you prove yourself useful, I shall share. Until then…”
You look to the fallen Raven next to him. He follows yours gaze and gulps. “Get. Off. My. Ship.” you snarl. He doesn’t have to be told twice. Him and his entire crew go scrambling back the way they came. But before they get too far, you leave them with one final word of advice. “And don’t think about betraying me either. I can just as easily manifest on your little barge should I think you’re working against my wishes.” With that they’re gone. Around the corner and presumably left free to run back in panic to their shuttle.
In any event, you certainly feel far better than you did before. Maybe it’s time to finally get around to decorating?
So we didn't get to Bloodbath discussions but at least you handled the main problem facing you (Re: Ravens). The infamy involved in this is wrapped up with your Bloodthirster advance so nothing new this time.
Now in regards to the next session... I can either do Acerea's Oneshot or KQ #15. The former means we'll focus largely on the plaguebearer and her zoanthrope friend. The latter means we'll focus more on things like Iggy, fleet management, and where to go from here. You'll get some of each in both options, but again, note where the focus is.
And this is how someone falls. Just a little thing, at first. Pushing an "inquisitor" so that you can get to the loot. But now there's a demon, and it turns out you're responsible for the Inquisitors death. But things can still be turned around, if you come back with the prize. Success counts for a lot, you know.
But the Demon doesn't go down, instead it defeats you. It leaves you a chance, to work for/with it - and maybe end up getting some loot. It's not really so bad, so long as you're killing xeno's, and maybe even other Chaos factions. It's like doing the Emperors, work, really, with the Demon being a piece of work that is more profitable to put off. It's not really so much farther than stealing from an Inquisitor.
With little steps, each one adding up after the other, we will have these Marines so wrapped up in Chaos that they won't realize it's too late until they're unable to turn back (hint: We're pretty much already there. I mean, once you've made a deal with a Demon, what keeps you from making more?)
She was a geneticist involved in terraforming a planet that was swallowed up by warp-storms. In order to survive, she blended the colonists DNA with that of local plants. When they started dying regardless, she turned to the warp to make the science work regardless.
She had children. The children of the colony died first. They were why she brought the magic into it, but when they were brought back they were mindless growths.
When the Imperium arrived to save the colony, her original children were purged. Now, she sees them in all the plants she cares for. That's why she was so pissed off when the Fern that she poured her love into was killed.
