Peasant Quest Part 14: Back and better than ever!

Character Sheet: http://pastebin.com/5PdCKbwc

QM Twitter: https://twitter.com/HeliosQM

The story so far (Ignore 2A) : http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=peasant+quest

Regardless of what you may have originally intended by putting an end to Janek, you have now become the vampire lord of Manhattan.

Already the burdens of leadership weigh heavy; there are too many vampires in Manhattan for the human population to comfortably support.

A seemingly elegant solution has presented itself in the form of the local mages, who have offered you valuable piece of information and an object of.....sentimental value in exchange for 20 of your new vampire subjects.

The capabilities of these mages, their agenda and what they intend to do with these captives remains a mystery.

You are assisted by your loyal children; Albrecht & Yasmin and advised by the Byzantine scholar Domitius who has proven himself a friend.

The first order of business is giving the mages an answer.

What do you do?
>>
Oops, above should say Part 15.

I'm just off for a quick coffee, then the show shall roll on.
>>
>>35707194
We have to know what they intend to do with the information they gain from experimenting on the vampires.
>>
>>35707255
>The mage ambassador claims he does not know and even if he did you doubt he would tell you.

>Domitius has told you that the ambassador is some kind of psychic puppet, his own will having been erased. He is being controlled by individuals unseen....
>>
>>35707348
Well, that sucks.

If there was a vote, I'd say to take the deal. They are only to pick from Janek's shitheaded children though. His grunts.
>>
How much of a dent would abducting 20 vampires put in the vampire population?

Does anyone present know of an approximate population in new york?
>>
>>35707438
>There are probably about 50 vampires in Manhattan at the moment, give or take. Including your own little group.

>A vampire with enourmous discipline, feeding as little as possible will kill one person a week assuming a best case scenario.
>>
>>35707645
Damn that's a good chunk of our numbers.

However, Mr. Tree himself said we were meant to be a kind of royal bloodline. Probably not a bad thing to weed out all the thinblooded scum anyhow.
>>
Crunch time, are we going with yes or no?

Will do a tally in 10 mins to decide...
>>
>>35707812
I'll say Yes

Is anyone else even here?
>>
>>35707824
Probably not, will take things slow at first to give more people a chance to turn up.
>>
>>35707812
yes
>>
>>35707812
Yes but justs shit heads from janek... likethe bouncers
>>
You accept the ambassador's offer, he promises that by the next nightfall 20 of Janek's blood will be gone from the streets of Manhattan never to be seen again. His masters will take care of the how, you need only look the other way.

He hands you two bound scrolls. Maps showing the current location of the two weapons he mentioned. One is in motion, deep in the Pacific ocean, the scroll only shows its current location, where it will be tomorrow is another matter.

The other is in Romania, within a mountain called 'Negoiu', the scroll shows exactly where it is.

He bids you good evening and leaves, promising that he will be here each time you convene your 'court' to represent his master's interests.

Both Yasmin and Domitius are seemingly captivated by the painting he gave you.

What do you do now?
>>
>>35708704
Take the painting, we will keep it within the sarcophagus. Aside from that, we need to improve our own skills and the skills of our children. Time for training.
>>
>>35708771
They need to be at a level were they can move themselves while we have stopped time, and hopefully at a point where they can do something themselves, so as to better protect themselves while we aren't around.
>>
>>35708704
Well, We're going to need to familiarize ourselves with our vamp vassals now. I propose some kind of test. Gotta make sure these guys can control themselves, or we're going to have the same population problem in a few months at most.
>>
>>35709064
Makes more sense to do this first, since we are already here. After court we can head back to the hospital and and stat teaching the kids.
>>
>>35709160
Yes. And after that, I'd start looking into the local organized crime. because I know where my next meal is coming from.
>>
>>35709330
Eh, maybe not their bosses. I'm sure quite a bit of Janek's operation relied on or at least took part in organized crime. Don't want to destroy our own business unless we...want to get rid of everyone I suppose?
>>
>>35708704
You fags, you should have declined. Whatever, we should hide the painting or burn it, then we should go and practice our strengths to get gud
>>
>>35709367
No, not ALL the orgnized crime, this is New York.
Just the worst ones
>>
>>35708771

As you touch the painting, something within you reflexively reaches out to it, not to the painting but into its past.

You are no longer in Janek’s club but a cavernous stone hall. Flickering torches cast shadows about the room. The painting remains though it is only partially complete, a familiar hand holds a thin brush, adding colour and shape to the canvas.

It’s Kassa, you have not seen her in anything but memories for a thousand lifetimes. You try to call out, to touch her but you cannot, you are not truly there. You realise that somehow you are looking directly into the past.

She is not alone in the hall, two young children a boy and girl alike enough to be twins stand to the side of her watching. Their pale skin, empty eyes and unnatural stillness give them away as undead. As Kassa paints, she speaks to them in a language you do not understand, the children occasionally speaking up, you think to ask questions then there is a loud thumping at the door. Kassa turns seemingly to bid the visitor enter and the vision fades.

*You have learned a new ability, by touching an object you can look into its past at moments of import. This does not work on living things or their remains.*

(You can scrutinize the vision for more precise details or move on)

What do you do?

Our waifu made it, keep it then. Now, we should get our vassals in order now and get gud. Our guy is pretty smart so we shouldn't have too much trouble with numbers and that
>>
>>35709506
If you didn't think of a name for it, I propose "Hindsight"
Let's go speak to the court and see what kind of stuff they are made of
>>
>>35709506
scrutinize the painting more then address the court. also make sure they know any thing said by yasmin and albrecht is spoken with our authority and they are to be listened to.
>>
>>35709573
>>35709554

With the assistance of the mortal lawyer and a handful of Janek's key people it should be relatively easy to make a lot of money.

Janek made his wealth by essentially taxing any and all nighttime criminal activity in Manhattan. Those who did not pay often disappeared or suffered unfortunate 'accidents'. You can seamlessly step into this role and reap the benefits, to say nothing of the legitimate profits made from the the businesses you have inherited.

The 'court' such as it is. Are eager for some structure. Janek apparently had various laws that all undead and mortals who worked with them had to obey.

They wish to know your laws.

What do you do?
>>
>>35709969
Everyone is free, though you can make "contracts" which are effectively the same. receive shekels
>>
>>35709969
You will exercise discipline. I'm not sure what kind of feeding Janek and his brood approved of, but we are not viscous animals, killing all we come across. You are to eat only as frequently as is necessary to sustain yourself.

Does anyone challenge this?
>>
>>35709969
First off, no making more vampires without coming to us first. We should make some kind of registry.
Uh, should probably say something about wanton murder, but I dont have a clear suggestion on how to do it.
Bring any reports about inroads from vamps from the other boroughs to us.
Probably should start some kind of minuscule tribute in order to keep up organization and maybe provide services and such for people in our court. Hopefully the less the live like animals the less they'll act like them.

Probably missing something
>>
>>35709969

Given the overpopulation problem, there should probably be a prohibition against creating new vampires and strong encouragement to show restraint and be discreet when feeding.

Should probably send an emissary to the queen of Queen's to establish relations as well.
>>
>>35710156
this but more then minuscule... we need money to operate in the world of the humans and to protect our adopted brood.
>>
>>35710065
>>35710156
>>35710163

Some combination of all these will work.

No gorging, no rampaging, no making new vampires.
>>
>>35710263
Well, we'll get our own money from our buisness we just inherited.
>>
>>35710357
We don't even need money. We're a superpowerful ancient vampire.
>>
>>35709763
>>35710065
>>35710156
>>35710163

Provisionsal:

1. No new vampires without your personal permission.

2. Albrecht and Yasmin are essentially royalty and to be treated as such.

3. Kill and feed as you must, not as you like. Gluttony and any other needless slaughter of mortals will be punished.

4. News of any tresspassing vampires in Manhattan is to be brought to you.

5. A tenth of a vampires income is to be paid to you each month, in exchange for your protection.

6. Send an Emissary to Queens to speak to Eveline (Runs things over there).

Everyone happy with the above? Anything to be added, removed or amended?

(Just gonna go with the suggestions I like the most here)
>>
>>35710438
Youre right, we should just live in dirt and garbage like fucking parasites.

Fuck you, just because we dont need to buy food, doesnt mean we cant use money
>>
>>35710465
Good enough for now, we can change stuff as we go
>>
>>35710504
Why the hostility? It's a quest, not your own personal finances.

The point being, money is not the ultimate goal.
>>
>>35710465
sounds about right
>>
>>35710562
It was never the ultimate goal, and was never implied to be. we literally have to do NOTHING and get money, thats what the lawyer guy is for.
>>
>>35710562

You announce your new laws and tell those present to spread the word to those who are not. Those assembled react with a mixture of relief and unease, you get the impression that the 'new order' seems worse than they had hoped but better than they feared.

> Send an emissary to Queens to speak to Eveline.

Who do you send?
>Yasmin
>Domitius
>Pick someone who seems suitable from those assembled.

What would you have them say?
>>
>>35710844
What do we know of the Queen first?
>>
>>35710858

From a previous thread:

>Queens is held by Eveline, a granddaughter of Siduri. She is between 200 and 300 years old and acts more as a 'president for life' than a monarch. She puts on a very convincing show of acting in the people's best interests, whether she actually does or is simply adept at manipulation Domitius is unsure. She is very popular in Queens and has many mortal allies.
>>
>>35710844
Find someone from the crowd who wants to prove themselves. We have to get to training Yamin and Domitius

I don't think sending some random mook to be our ambassador and make a first impression with a neighbour is such a great idea.

We should send Yasmin, she's good at this sort of thing. Probably.
>>
>>35711001
If anything, I'd send Domitius. Yasmin is too much of a schemer.
>>
>>35711001
In my eyes, it's a way for a random mook to become valuable, or to weed out an asshole, which we then kill and visit the queen in person anyway to save face which may be cool as well.
>>
>>35711001
She's also the one most likely to fly off the handle and kill someone the second shes not under supervision. Shes already done so once, and she was the first one to suggest killing all those crewmen before.

So, anyone but her, really.
>>
>>35711018

I think in terms of ability/knowlege Domitius would be better, but NY vampires dislike elders on principle and Domitius is pretty old. iirc he sneers at the local vampire rulers, so it seems to go both ways.

Yasmin is young and OP has said she's a good manipulator and is very loyal to us.

>>35711051

>>
>>35711276

>>
>>35711186
I take it you mean:
>Hugh de Croÿ
>One of Ankou's sons, used to be a crusader knight if the rumours are to be believed. He's offered to lend you a hand, though out of boredom by appearances.
>Also seems to hold younger vampires in contempt and has probably killed everyone who has ventured into Staten Island.
>Is likely something of a spook story amongst NYC vampires. You could ask him, though sending him in would certainly send a very strong message.
>>
>>35711349
Naaa, there's no way we are sending Hugh.

The way I see it, the options are:

Random Kiss-ass Mook trying to prove himself to us

OR

Ourselves
>>
>>35711349

So sending him or Domitius is basically saying:
"The elders have arrived to put you in your place. Deal with it."
>>
Okay, I'll take charge. Respond to this with just your choice so QM can settle this quickly.

You decide to go yourself, make sure things are done properly. Though you do not have time this evening, you'll have to wait until tomorrow night.

In the remaining time before dawn, you tutor Yasmin as best you can in chronomancy. She is a quick study and had progressed further than you thought on her own. By the time Albrecht returns just before the dawn, she is able to stop time on her own, though her ability to maintain it for longer periods is not reliable.

You sleep away the day and rise with the setting of the sun.

You make prepare to leave for Queens to introduce yourself to Eveline. Who do you leave in charge?

1. Albrecht
2. Yasmin
3. Both of them
>>
>>35711816
Albrecht will take charge and Yasmin will get to know the court.
>>
>>35711816
3, for sure

>>
>>35711816
>3. Both of them
>>
>>35711816
3. Both of them
>>
You leave both of your children to handle things at court this evening in your absence, not wanting to play favourites whatever your true opinion of them may be.
You take a taxi to Queens and once there, get out and explore the area on foot. You don’t know precisely where Eveline can be found so you first have to find a local vampire and ask for directions. Perhaps not the most statesman like approach, but needs must.
Eveline usually holds court at her own home, a large mansion in one of the nicer parts of the borough. Its certainly impressive, its size and overt presence in a bustling mortal neighbourhood speak to how well liked she must be. However when you arrive, her servants apologetically inform you that she is away on a pressing personal matter and will not be able to see you this evening. You politely make enquiries and overtures, getting the strong impression that she is deliberately avoiding you. All attempts to meet with her being frustrated, you compose a friendly letter inviting her to make contact and leave it with one of her servants, who you notice is poorly attempting to conceal his fear of you.
You return to the club, to find it far emptier than it was the previous night. Yasmin and Albrecht are there, but only one other vampire, a well dressed man in his fifties attended by two mortals. Your children show signs of having been in a fight and there are tell-tale scorchmarks on the floor. By the looks of things, at least three vampires met their end in this room tonight.

Albrecht explains that many vampires disappeared during the day, to the horror of their friends and relatives. Happening so soon after you took power, you were thought either the perpetrator or one who was unwilling/unable subjects. An angry mob stormed the club and violence ensued, the end result of which being the remaining vampires of Manhattan have either fled to neighbouring boroughs or sworn revenge. The well-dressed man being the only exception.

What do you do?

Trying to learn *Banish* is still an option

>You have discovered a potential new ability: *Banish* - The ability to send an object or potentially a person from the present into the future. You will need to devote some time to practice and experimentation before being able to use it and meddling with such forces is not without risk. Whenever you attempt to learn this power a roll must be made:
90+ will unlock the ability.
50+ will reduce the difficulty of the next roll to learn the power by 10 ie you will unlock it on a roll of 80+ next time.
0-49 triggers a temporal anomaly, the lower the roll the more severe it is
.
>The anomalies from very low rolls on trying to learn banish are quite severe. A roll of less than 10 will effectively change the setting into something more.... surreal and post-apocalyptic.

The well-dressed man is named Anthony. He is one of Janek's progeny and a prominent gangster. He views his turning as little more than a business transaction however and has little loyalty to Janek's memory. Apparently Janek promised him power and immortality in exchange for a 'foot in the door' in the local organized crime.

He says he prides himself on backing 'the winning horse' and thus has remained here to pledge his loyalty to you. He has also brought his 'taxes' early as a gesture of goodwill. A fat envelope containing $10000.

(At the point I started writing, there were more '3's. Obvious samefagging aside. So we'll go with that.)

Yasmin has already learned to step outside of time and will not be able to learn a new ability, barring exceptional circumstances until she is abit older.

You can attempt to teach Albrecht, *Shadow Out Of Time*, *Unbound Action* or *Hindsight*. Though you suspect that the ability to move around whilst time has been stopped by another will develop naturally eventually.

You can also attempt to learn *Banish* if you so choose or examine the maps given to you by the mage ambassador.

Chronomancy is the personal expression of your vampirism that you can 'work on' so to speak.

The other 'base' powers will strengthen naturally over time or with special plot events.

I'll only go with a 'learn banish' attempt if theres an obvious consensus, given the potentially game changing nature of it.
>>
>>35713428
teach him Hindsight
learn banish

>>35713697

Making a banish attempt will take all of your concentration. You'll have to devote the evening to it and won't have time to teach Albrecht. However you could get him to watch you as you attempt banish, he might learn something from it.

(I'll count the earlier roll as a freebie, so the 'successfully learn' is now 80+ and the anomaly roll is now '0-40')

It's explained in the character sheet, lemme go see.
http://pastebin.com/5PdCKbwc

*Active Ability: Unbound Action*
You are able to store a physical action in a pocket of time (eg throwing a punch, stepping to oneside, taking a big leap etc) and summon it to the present moment whenever you choose. You can use this ability to do things that would otherwise be physically impossible.

*Active Ability: Reflection*
By touching an object you can look into its past, directly viewing moments of importance. This does not work on living things or their remains.

I think unbound will serve him better, as a way to flee for his safety and become a better fighter

You have learned banish! You are now able to send a person or object into the future. At the moment, you are able to send something/someone anywhere between 1 second and 1 year into the future. They will reappear at the same spot in space but remember to take into account the earth's rotation.

Call me blind, but I don't really see the practical application of this ability.
>>
>>35713981
So, if we had a math and science genius, we could theoretically teleport into the future absolutely anywhere in the world?
>>
>>35714010
The way I see it, you banish something and they are suspended in space in that point for the duration you chose, then appear in that same place in space, and you have to compensate for the earths' rotation..soo...The only real application I see for this skill is to like, banish ourselves for a couple hours if we get trapped somehow so we reappear outside of the building?

I don't even know.
>>
>>35713937
yeah, unbound action is better
>>35714002
say you're surrounded our can't avoid something, boom just send it into the future. about to get shot, displace yourself so it goes "through" you. want to hide something where no one will find it, displace it from time. plus in battle you could banish weapons, limbs and whole people away

You guys ever play D&D? This can be used like imprisonment. We could send shit deep beneath the ground or into space. Banish ourselves or others for short periods to evade things, skip years, preserve stuff, torture people, make objects materialise within other objects. Just off the top of my head.
>>
>>35714105
Yeah, I do see how it CAN be used, but we also can just stop time to mess with most things and not even need to banish them.

Maybe use them both together? Stop time, then banish shit, and resume it to kill everyone? Dunno. Just seems at our current strength stopping time is just as well for most things
>>
>>35714131
I don't think we can send them underground or in space or anything, They banish at the same point they were banished at

We could banish a nuke into space or something and save the world. Then, we can pretend to be a good guy and not evil champion of our dark lord and savior and get rich or die tryin? Also, get our qt3.14 waifu back
>>
>>35714152
that's part of the point, using both together makes both better. banish something only to stop time right when it appears and boom now its ours. or stopping time and banishing everyone's weapons in an instant or banishing the boss/guards before anyone can stop you
>>
>>35713981
What about the Earth's orbit?
>>
>>35714173

The Earth itself moves around the Sun. If you banish something 6 months into the future, they'll appear in space on the opposite side of The Sun from The Earth. IE where The Earth was 6 months ago.
>>
Fuck yea peasant quest

Also we have truly immovable rod, we go CLANG ppl
>>
>>35714173
>banish a wall or part of the floor
>they run thru right when it comes back
>stuck in wall
we could even grab a pipe and banish it right as we swing to displace it into a person's torso
>>
>>35714252
What about the Sun's orbit of the galactic center?
>>
>>35714326
Fuck nigger, you're going too far.
>>
I can see that our MC is like tryin to br an upstanding guy and keep making himself looked like a menacing overlord
>>
>>35714337
The MC was some random country hick you learneded himself from a fucking priest(Who turned out to be the leader of the paladin order) and he just got fucked over really.
>>
>>35714360

Yea I mean, wacky suffering the quest, its fun and we have a 100 millenia blue balls! This is a game pitch level here
>>
>>35714326

In peasant quest land galaxies magically stay in the same place. (Mainly because working things like that out is way beyond me)

As you become more experienced in using banish, you'll learn to make people reappear relative to their percieved location (namely, you banish someone in their living room, they reappear in their living room)
