Previously:
San Diego is wiped out by a tidal wave, a young man caught in the deluge as the city is erased by what some might consider the very wrath of god in a world with a sky of endless colors. Snatched from the brunt of the wave, the young man faces an inhuman creature of humanoid form that strikes out his eye to deliver onto him the gift of magic by means of the followers.

Praise be to Susej they say. These followers.

Selfish in his means of survival, a young man rallies with these people for his own safety as the government seeks to keep the truth of the world under wraps, that magic exists and that people like the followers are throwing it into chaos.

Sent on a mission to liberate people captured for conscription based on their awakening to magic, he journeys with others to meet with a woman planted for this very purpose, finding adversity on the way.

Having left a trail all too easy to follow, he's been captured and taken to the very place he'd been looking to gain access, though not exactly on his own terms...

Recently rescued by unknown allies, the young man takes on a new alias “Faust” to help him lay low.

You are Asher Faust, welcome to Over(human)Limit S2

“That's a reasonable guess, and so I answer yes. When our soul was rending, a spirit of forest helped the mending.” You say with a curt, short bow before taking a knee, “So, I am bending now for greater good. I seek to nurture, foster, and protect the wood.”

“So you pledge yourself to the Seelie in this cause? Truly, even with an Unseelie in company, this does beg applause.”
The gallery of fae, give a chorus of clap and cheers. Donneth answers some with his glares and his sneers.

“I come too with my own ambition, I declare it by my own will, so listen! I am Donneth of Winter, hunter of men! I am an unseelie with no legends yet. Yet mark by my word, and know it is so, I am not friend, yet neither a foe. My chill is for death of human alone. The wood and its bounty are together my home.
I have no quarrel with the warmth of this Court. So I stand unblessed, as I am still of their sort.”

You stare down at Donneth, as he returns a tired gaze. His pact with you not more than a phase, he seeks more, and you smile, amazed.

Titania claps once before she doth speak, the last bit of fae chatter ends with a squeak, “Well then Ser Asher, and Donneth as well. Perhaps we may have more time, I'd hear more of your travails. Asher the Burnt, and Donneth the Cold, a new tall tale.” The Fae queen smiles and sits upon a toadstool to listen.
Melisandre the nymph, fidgets yet listens and the quartet of Fae, fall by your side, with the entire fae court, listening aside.

You look to Donneth, and he looks to you, “Well, my patron. After you.”

Rain falls through brisk autumn air, October 27th, falling in sheets upon cars bleating in traffic, the dull procession of a city's mid-morning commute. A chromatic haze of the low hanging fog obscures the Seer's tower. The fog rolls in from Navy pier, a wave of white mist creeping in from the great lake.

You see this all from the top of one of the many skyscrapers, the harsh chill of the upper air makes the leaves upon your cheek curl ever so slightly with disgust and apprehension.
It's been a few days since you spoke with Titania and returned from the wood.

Cora may have confronted you for having left so abruptly after your reunion, had she not made way herself first. She figured out what she needed to and your suit was in your room, waiting for you. She used the shifting feature of the “Dress Up” suit to incoroporate the others. Basically, you're either wearing normal clothes or switching between the other general modes. Heat Control, Bulletproof, agility, or some other pre-designed articles.
It's a marvel to be sure, yet it pales in comparison to what you have planned. You avoided Echo, but you did hear from Emilia that she refused to take one of Cora's suits. Marcus declined as well. The two of them apparently feel better off with their own abilities. Whatever.

With a shift into the agility form, black plastics creep up to your chin and mouth, spreading over your knuckles, fingers, feet, and toes. Once ready, your body relaxes and leaps forward a hundred meters through the fog-clad air. A lens over your eye via your ZG mask defends you against the splatter of water droplets. As you target the next building on your little “walk,” you cast yourself out. Image focused, summoned and- A conflagration blinds you, and a moment later, you're standing atop the next building, surveying the place.
>>

Closing your eye, you open your perception to the ether. Looking beyond the people, beyond the city, you search the land for a place of power. A special spot. Titania said that for a portal to be made, a lot of power must be gathered. And with Halloween less than a week away, you need to find an ideal location. With a Great lake and such loamy, rich soil lurking just below this concrete jungle, it's the perfect place to make Chi-Town, Fae-Town.

The pulse here is weak as well. It's just not... loved enough?

Millenium park might've been a nice place if they hadn't closed it off after the fashion disaster. Reports on the news obscure the details, labelled it as a terrorist attack with the individuals that carried it out either dead or apprehended. Saph mentioned that there weren't really any survivors. Part of you wonders what Camille thought of that.

(She was glad to see you again, for what it was worth.)

“That so, Legna?” Your Valkyrie appears at your side, obscure high on up here by the thick mist. Her ephemeral blue eyes are piercing, her helm keeping her hair out of the way, and her armor strong, rigid and... appallingly metal.

(As you commanded, I spoke with her for some time. She is still in this city.) Legna had left your defense by your command. The joint of your shoulder aches at the thought as the parasitic Ash still slowly eats away at what's left of your arm.

“You think me a bad commander?”

“More a novice warrior. Your meeting with the tricksters went well, I take it?”

Potentially re-recruit her, but more likely we'd learn some stuff about Overwatch.
>[] “Good counsel, right. Not even you can protect me from myself, right?”
Improve rapport with Legna? I'm not really sure if this is a distinct option path all of its own or if it's just banter. I guess it could potentially branch into learning how to magic sword here, but the option is really iffy.
>[] “I want you to scout for a strong ley line.”
Fae plan continues, probably kinda slow going and suboptimal but it's going to be Asher that gets all the glory if it works.
>[] “I'm going to Dorothy's. Do whatever you do while I'm gone.”
Fae plan continues, probably a bit faster and more reliable, but any glory for portal opening gets shared with Dorothy.

“Yes, and I have something that I need to find. Scout out an appropiate Ley Line for me. I have a ritual to perform and I'm going to need a powerful sight.” You stare out across the city-scape, what would be a gray slate of fog is painted by the aurora of the sky, sending out a surplus of colors. Strangely enough, it's not present when you look on with an electronic camera, news confirms that much at least. Still, whenever you think about the sky it just gets more mysterious.
A look at it with astral vision just reveals the same colors you see in the real.

“I will do so then, is the beast-”

“Donneth is already looking. Though he may be gratifying himself with some of the less savory.”

“By your leave?” She questions.

“Yes, by my leave.”

She turns abruptly, “I will go then.”

“One more thing.” She stops as you peer down at sheet of fog, “You said that Camille was still here?”

“Indeed.”

“Where?”

“She is at Millenium Park, making use of her abilities.”

“To do what?” You turn.

“I do not know.”

Business time for now. Camille might even be able to help us with the portal once we know what is needed...
>>
>>35695620
>[] “I'll visit her when night falls.” (Visit Dorothy.)
I want to see Camille, but it seems like a bad idea to go hang around Overwatch while our summons are out on patrol.
I trust that Camille won't attack us, she seems to be mainly focused on warding anyway, but I don't want to risk getting blindsided by one of the other Overwatch people while we don't have Legna or Donneth around.

Also, Legna's pretty cool. I hope that we don't end up getting totally allergic to heavy metal Legna. Steel tankbrosis seems like the best.
>>
You know, really, this fae thing isn't really that much of a change from Asher's initial motivation. He started out thinking that what the gubmint did was bad and that more magic should be brought into the world and people have the right to know about it.

Follower flavour was teaching people through torturing the shit out of them.
Luci flavour was getting people to follow him and teaching them through less torturey methods with a side of summoning the Fallen.
Looks like this new plant flavour is summon up fucktons of fae and hippy stuff.

All the same core thing, really.

>>

Did we ever contract the elemental sister fae?

I want to teach them how to combo with eachother to pull off the elemental transmutations that we know. Like the fire+water+air ones could do lightning. And the fire+earth ones could do lava. It'd be pretty sweet.
>>
>>35695135
That's pretty much what I always imagine Asher looking like in the astral. Indistinct grey astral haze obscuring his face while glowy aurora strings trail from him, some leading up into the astral and some just trailing on the ground and some attached to his summons.
>>
>>35695821
*coughcough*burningman*coughcough*
>>
>>35695774
I hope Dran goes with this and focuses Asher's actions through the lens of what he's already done and believed.
He, and a lot of the players, seem to have this notion that Asher's a totally blank slate when it comes to goals and that the only way he can have a grand objective is if some dickass astral being ramrods his soul.
>>
40(roughly) cubic centimeters of lead is a 9 megaton tnt explosion worth of energy. Any lead isn't even the densest metal.
Remember to put everything into alchemy
>>
>>35695984
Blowing shit up seems like the worst way to spend our limit points.
Especialy since controling that shit will be incredibly difficult
>>
>>35695984
>get immortality
>nuke everything and get flung around by the explosions giggling like a child
>>
>>35695984
Honestly, I think that Summoning might be a better choice to rush. There are plenty of Overs that can survive getting nuked whether it's through sheer fucktarded levels durability or through being intangible or something.

There's also the fact that dropping a nuke on an area means that there's going to be a LOT of damage to things that aren't the dude we want dead. Just flinging around nukes seems like an awesome way to have ZG turn against us and get thrown to the top of the Templar shit-list.

Don't get me wrong, I want matter->energy transmutations. I want it bad. I want it reeeaaaal bad.
But it's not something that we want to make our main mode of combat.
Also, I'm really curious about just how strong we can get our summons to be.
And every rank of Summoning makes Blink cheaper and Blink is the only thing that's keeping us alive half the time.
>>
>>35696017
It's not just blowing shit up m8, it's about the possiblities, just that pound of lead wouldn't cost much, but what we could do with pure energy(we wouldn't use the whole pound, that's a ticket to death) is amazing. Pure energy, pure unadulterated energy.
>>
Dran, in terms of achieving our goals of becoming transhuman verdant lord, how do Alchemy/Summoning/Floramancy all fit in? I don't really understand what further ranks add for body modification and army building.
>>
>>35695093
>Her ephemeral blue eyes are piercing, her helm keeping her hair out of the way, and her armor strong, rigid and... appallingly metal.
Woah. Legna's barely 40% on her steel aspect and Asher's barely even faeish at all and it's still enough to bug him?
>>
>>35696082
Yeah, I would be fine with boosting summoning, we are gonna be doing a lot of summoning
>>
>>35695620

Turning on your heels, the crunching gravel of the rooftop, you head for the ceiling access door, “Then get started looking. Return by nightfall, we're going to see her.”

“Very well.” With that, Legna melts back into the astral,

“And thank you Legna.” You add on.

She seems to pause, you feel her awareness upon you for a moment before zipping away through the other side.

Three knocks for the rule of three. Three moment's patience and then a whisper, “Blessed be.”

The door opens and you walk through into Dorothy's shop, yet she's not at the counter. Solace sits there instead, yawning with glistening white fangs exposed. “Dorothy's stepped out for lunch.” The feline's etheric voice whispers from the other side. “What do you want today, oh valued customer?”

(Oh- My- Gawd. Is that a talking cat?!) Your... Significant other chimes in through, half corporalizing with a manic grin, “It's the first time I've seen a cat not chasing a rat. Oh, what to make of that?”

“Dear Customer, mind that your guests obey your contract while in our shop.” Solace's lips flick up into a bit of a snarl, “And I do not chase rats. Bad run in with the ones in New York. You'd think that a bigger rat is amazing, then you find out it's a few hundred rats half your size. Then they chase you through the sewers until you smell like the ass end of every filthy human in New York. No. I do not chase rats.”

“Be still my quivering heart, for separation cannot tear us apart.” You glare begrudgingly at Meli, “I believe that I told you that I'd visit you, yes?”
>>
>>35696130
Why would her armor bother him as a fae? I seriously doubt her armor is cold iron.
>>
>>35696133
Summoning is boring. We can do cool shit ourselves with alchemy instead of telling spirits to do it for us
>>
>>35696156

>>
>>35696150

“But Honeyscrumptions, it's been too long! You know it's long for me in Tir Na Nog!” The Nymph hangs upon your shoulder as you look away. Part of Titania's alliance called to be married to a fae. Apparently this one took dibs and you couldn't argue out of it. Emilia was added to the marriage contract at least, but now this crazy pops up every now and then...

“Why does Dorothy even allow fae through the ward?” Solace bemoans as he licks his paw, grooming his face. “Look, if you're going to buy something-”

“Oh, you're shopping?! Can you get something for me? Or are you gettinggifts for the sister faeries? Oh, oh, or maybe my Sister Willia?” She gives you a little nudge in the ribs, “I heard she's got a little thing for ya~”

Emilia isn't that bad. She's not exactly stellar or worth making efforts to go for at the expense of other things, but she practically throws herself at us and she's pretty damn useful and it'd be a massive waste to actively try to get rid of her for no reason.
>>
>>35696602
It's not that I like Emilia, it's just that if I *have* to be married to a fae I'd rather it not be a random one that raped us.

“Sorry Solace,” You sigh as Meli lays her head against your shoulder.

“Honestly? Seen worse.” The cat's ears flick, and he lays down, “Well?”

You shrug a bit and look down at Meli, she smiles back up at you, moving her bangs out of the way. Rolling your eye, you set your mind to business, “When will Dorothy be back? I had questions about a ritual for Samhain.”

“You and many others.” The cat utters a small laugh, “She'll be back later on, I'm uncertain just how long she'll be. More than a few clients and pickups of extra merchandise for the occasion... She also has a bit of business with family.”

“Family?” You raise a brow. You can't imagine Dorothy as anything but-”

“She'll be carving pumpkins with her niece and nephew after the business round... So.. it'll be a bit. I could answer questions though, I've been with Dorothy for a long time.”

“How long exactly?”

“Let's just say that I could be your grandfather.”

“Is that in cat years?”

Solace gives you a flat, “No.”

Gives rise to a lot of other questions, but you stick to the more important ones as you pick your way through the shop. You try to keep it vague, concerning gates and how much it takes to create a stable one.

“Depends on what it's for. Technically our shop only opens temporary gates to this place. And it only opens for people invited by someone else.”

“So a persistent portal that's always open...?”

“Would require massive influxes of mana and frequent maintenance against anomalies. Dorothy and I often watch for them as here, though she tends to leave it all to me. It's like a mental exercise,”
>>
>>35697163

“And with temporary doors?”

“I can maintain it alone, no problem. If we were expecting more traffic, we might set up dried mistletoe as a sacrificial reagant.”

You traverse a section of more neutrally aligned ornaments, turning over some of the sturdier looking items with your fingers. Ginger roots, various pendulums dangling from a crystalline display, assorted gems of various cut and luster, amethyst-filled geodes, even an outright meteorite...

“So a permanent portal is taxing, how could one occur naturally without intervention?”

“Either a special place, or one that only opens for a limited time.”

“What about both?”

“That's also a possibility...” Solace jumps down from the desk, bounding over to the section you're in, “Nice arm...”

“Thank you.”

“What kindo of gate are you looking to make anyway? Dorothy might be interested... For a price.”

“To be honest.” You set down a little figurine you were looking at, a dragon coiled around and clutching a blue orb. “I want to open a portal to the summerlands of fae, Tir na Nog.”

“Oh?” Solace hops up onto the display counter, carefully stepping around some items, while pawing others back into place. “That's quite the inspired undertaking. From working for the Fallen, to the Seelie Fae... Is this then your wife?”

Meli, puts her arms around you, her hands tickling your chlorophyll cheek, sending tingles of life through your wooden part, “That I am. Is he not the most curious and interesting sort of man? Over and over, he knows not where he stands. Yet here he is conspiring plans. And this time so that we may meet. In the flesh to flesh...” She slides her cheek against yours, “Cheek to cheek.” And punctuating it with a quick peck.

Solace can't help but to stop organizing the trinkets to chuckle, “Really then? You went off and got hitched? Well congratulations. We'll have to think up some sort of wedding gift. I'll tell Dorothy when she gets back.”

You slide your human hand along the bridge of your nose to your forehead, “Really, that's not necessary. Just relay that I'd like some help. With it, okay?”

“Right. Well, anything you're looking to buy? Truth be told, I hate window shoppers that touch everything.” Solace stares you down, “So hard to get everything back into its proper place without opposable thumbs.”

“Sorry, I'll be going.” You begin to turn away, but you happen to stare at Solace for a bit too long as the feline carries on with fixing and facing merchandise. You start to put your hand out while he's busy and your inches away from his fur when he turns, glaring at you with his golden eyes narrowing in the light.

“Don't.”

You bit your lip behind your mask, stopping. Just want to pet the cat. Just want to pet the goddamned cat.
Before you begin to withdraw, Meli puts her hand on yours and pushes down. “Do.” She says quite pleased with herself and your hand slides down Solace's glossy fur, her back arching, and instinctively pushing into your hand.

“Ah, eh, no! Stop it!” he cries out, while letting out a purr.

All the while, Meli just raises your hand back up and sends it down his back again, a deep concentration in her eyes. Solace submits, flopping over onto his back, showing off a white spot amongst his black. As you tickle his tummy, he purrs and wriggles, sending some of the trinkets careening onto the floor.

“Ah, no. Stop it! This isn't professional! I have a job!”

Meli giggles like mad, kissing your cheek again, “My husband Asher wants to pet a cat, so he gets to pet a cat! Simple, right?”

You can't help but to grin out of your usual funk, always been a cat-person anyway.

A sudden scratch snaps you out of it, and Solace jumps down to the floor, bounding away in a hurry, tail alert and raised. “Get out.”

“Hey, sorry.”

“Out! And we're not talking about this again!”

You feel an invisible force fling you up and send you flying out of the shop, tumbling back onto the cold roof of one of Chicago's many high-rises. With a reflexive twitch, you manage to right yourself just as the door slams shut. “Sheesh, Hope he's not too mad...”

“Really cute cat when he's not all grumpy, wumpy...” Meli holds onto you, looking you in the eyes with a flirtatious smile. “You're not... mad yourself, are you?” Her eyes flick away, “I just wanted to make you smile, love.”

Albeit a little conflicted, you did get to see an exceptionally queer side to Solace. Touching her face, her hand meets yours, leaning into your palm with a smile, “I'm happy.” Bringing your hand around her head, you pull her in for a kiss to her forehead.
As you pull back, she smiles cheerily, “I'm so lucky to have a human husband...” Her face flushes with several hues, “To think that I thought of drowning you as per my usual business. I can't wait till this portal of yours is done. Then we may walk together, swim together, and meet my Sister-wife, Emily.”

“Emilia,” You correct.”

“Right!” She pulls away, “I'll be leaving you alone for a bit. Ta for now my husband!” With that said, she slips back through the ether, her phantom presence leaving your side.

In truth, you feel a little less than your usual self when she leaves. But you'll get over that.

A check on the sun, and it's still blaring its way slowly onward to the afternoon.

“Legna, Donneth. Have you found anything?”

The Valkyrie speaks first, (The line is far to the southwest, beyond the boundary of this city.)

“You went that far?”
(Nay, it is what I feel. And this place is devoid of that.)

“And Donneth?”

(Blood paints the dark halls of rustic homes. The hunter finds unsavories minding themselves, alone.) The foul Unseelie finishes with a haunting laugh.

“You had one job Donneth. One job.”

(Aye, indeed. I suggest the blue pier. Where children laugh and a hallow's ball is near.)

“How the hell did you find that out?”
>>
>>35698779

(The whispers are clear if you open your ears.) Donneth chuckles again.

(You told me to search for a Ley Line. The Beast did not find a Ley Line.) Legna retorts.

(The Hunter, you incredible bitch. And I find answers as I scratch mine own itch.)

With Legna's counsel, you take her mention of a ley line underneath the field museum to heart. With a blink down to a secluded area, you shift your uniform into a jacket and gloves along with a gaitor to cover up your pronounced leafy foliage. Like that, you make way for the loop and get off close to the museum.
Outside, there are bronzed statues of fossils standing watch. Great Brachios and diplodocus, and even Allosaurus in eternal glory, banners flown on great pedestals that read “Field Museum” in great vertical letters.

At the ticket booth, you see a number of options associated with this most immediate visit...

I just found out that Sue's exhibit doesn't actually have her real skull on it. It's a replica because the real thing weighs 600lbs and can't be supported. This means we're going to have to move either a 600lb skull or the rest of the fossil if we do go through with this eventually.

You do realize that means we can cast spells on people without having to touch them.
>>
>>35699931
So long as you get enough physical reagents to imitate touching them. Most often personal articles, affects, or actual parts of their body to work.

The effect still generates a lot of burn, and is best done with other casters, but it can be done.

Aren't we here to fae stuff? I guess these other options are for later on, but still I don't really see why now.
>>
>>35699734

You shell out for the all access pass. More is better, right? Besides, the Underground adventure should bring you closer to the ley line point.

“This pass is good until November 2nd.” You hear from the clerk as they pass it to you, “Museum closes in about two hours, The Biomechanics set is closed for some maintenance, and the last 3D movie's played for today.”

Just leaves Underground adventure and the Haiti exhibit among the special charges.

As you pass through the doors, the hairs at the back of your neck tingle. A look in the astral and you see that this place is flooded with power not unlike Gertrude's own shop. It's actually kind of crazy that all this is just sitting here for normies to touch, to look at.

Oh well, best get to work.

Out of curiousity, you head straight forward to get a good look at the Tyrannosaurus skeleton dominating the far end of the main hall. It towers up to the bridges crossing the upper floors, peering at passersby with empty eyes. In the astral, the skull and several other bones are hollow, devoid of any old energy. And yet, the true ones are ripe with the ancient power of the primal earth.
As you gaze upon it, you whisper one word into your gaitor... “Gaia.”

Reading the plaque, you get the gist of it. This is Suezanne, largest and most complete Tyrannosaurus ever found. Her skull is kept elsewhere due to its weight being too much for the integrity of the supports.
So the head is elsewhere. That'd be interesting to look at... Something mighty might even be able to be done.

From there, you find yourself pondering at where to go next.

You head down for the exhibit called “Underground Adventures” To your surprise, it actual goes down a bit into a basement level, bringing you down closer to the power pulsating throughout this place. The further you go past the bullshit little still-lifes of various subterra animals presiding in a replica habitat of how they live and prosper, you find yourself near the end, or rather the middle before going back around up top.

Here, you feel with your third vision the energy pulsing beneath the foundation. A solemn stream of power like a vein of the world. No, it's not a meeting, a converging point. But all the same, its flow belies an intense and very real power. In fact, you're not sure whether the things here are charged because of it, or if their presence has caused the line to diverge and reroute. It seems like either theory could be likey, why else would it run right under the museum?

“Excuse me sir, are you okay?” An attendant asks as you find yourself kneeling with your human hand on the floor.

Now that you think on it, you must look pretty strange, “Ah, yes. Just, uh, nodding off a bit. Thank you.”

“Okay. Just tell me if you need help to the bathroom or something, okay?”

You nod to the guy and he lets you off. Standing up, you realize yes, this'll be a good place. But who knows what might happen when you reroute that power to give the fae a door. Heh, the results very mat well be glorious. A seed directly over the line should do the trick. Best come back with ash or oak.

Beginning to head out, you pause to consider that there might be something else to do here. With a shrug though, you make your way for base. You've been out long enough and Donneth's been somewhat of a bad boy. They'll be on edge if the Watch catches on and it'll complicate your woukd-be ritual.

Back at “home,” Emilia answers the door, immediately smiling to put away worry, “Asher! You're back. Where did you go? Saph was asking about you.”
>>
>>35700831

“About me?” You raise a brow, kick off your shoes and take a seat on the couchless living room floor. “What's she want?” said as though you really don't care.

“Well, since you've been back you haven't really talked to anyone else. She wanted to know if you're okay. Hungry?”

“A bit.”

“A PBJ okay?”

“No.” You say with a bit more intensity than intentioned. Shaking your head some, “Just give me some meat. We have that in the fridge?”

“Uh... I stocked it, but I didn't think that you'd want to eat meat when you got back.” Emilia bites her lip, “Got Tofurkey dogs?'

You stare at her through the part of the kitchen, “I'll just get something from the woods later, no big deal.”

The sound of a plastic package can be heard getting torn open, “I'll just get some for myself then. I'll pick up some meaty stuff in a bit, you don't have to go kill any of the deer.” A sizzle starts as she throws them on a pan. “So, you were out for a bit. Have fun?”

“Something like that. Checked in with Dorothy and Solace. Went to the Field Museum...”

“You went to the field museum?”

Taking out the ticket, you send it through the gap in the kitchen on a localized air stream. A lazy use of magic.

“All access huh? XIX and Echo might be interested in going.”

“How is Echo anyway? She wouldn't wear the suit my sis made.”

You can feel Emilia shrug for the moment of silence as she bats around the Tofurkey dog, basil and pepper wafts through the room. “She told me not to wear it either. Marcus decided against his too. Said it'd just be a pain to attune different clothes to not burn up with his power or something.”

“Why would she do that? These things are awesome. I jumped like a hundred meters or something.”

“Maybe she just doesn't like that Eloc guy? She seemed more reserved than usual when he was around.”

“Well, the guy is a perv."

She laughs at that. “Well, he's not staring at the ladies you know, even if he did make Cassie wear the bondage dress up thing.

There's a silence shared between the two of you when Emilia finally speaks up, “So, I didn't know... That you had a sister.”

“Thought she was dead. You know, when the wave hit.”

“She said that she was in Vegas for it.”

“You talked to her?”

Emilia nods, turning off the heat and skewering the herbed faux-hotdog on a little metal skewer. After blowing on it, she takes a bite, wincing a bit, “Yeah, we talked while you were doing stuff in the woods.”

“Ah...” You eye that thing, drooling a little bit through the gaps in your leaves. As much as you're subtly repulsed, it still smells pretty good. Haphazardly swallowing it back, you look away from it and Emilia, “We didn't really talk much after I moved out for college, Got into a dorm so I wouldn't have to deal with my mom.”

Emilia sits across from you, glancing over at the television beside her while giving you adequate space. “She mentioned that you didn't like your mom that much. Why?”

You shrug as though you don't know, “Bitch had a drinking problem. Not enough to fuck up her job, but still just enough to be wasted at most other given moments of the day. Dad didn't like her either and one of my fuckups got him taken out of my life.”

Emilia stares, furrowing her brow a bit at your story, “What did you do?”

“I... Well I burnt a kid's house down. Back in seventh grade. One of many that wouldn't stop picking on me.”
Emilia stares for a moment, and you look her in the eye for a moment, trying to get a read on her expression. It's not quite judging, yet not the way to pitying. No, there's disbelief there. “Got something to say?”

She shakes her head. “Um... No. Just that... Cora didn't mention anything like that.”
Emilia finishes the rest of the Tofurkey dog in silence before walking across the living room and offering you a hand.

>write-in (I can't think of shit)

and sometimes it feels like Dran translates it like

>Attack, blow him up (turns out he's immune to fire, or he's just to badass for it to make a difference)
>Attack, crush him (turns out he's too fast for you to do anything)
>Defensive, Blink (waste of time, he just catches you anyways)
>write-in (It will probably be stupid and fuck them over)

One of the reasons I simply don't bother voting on combat anymore, no choice feels like it will be effective anymore.
>>
>>35701384
The writein where we voted to make him fall in a hole but instead Asher made a tiny rock pop up to trip him was frustrating. We could have easily dropped him deeper into the ground and entombed him, making it so he couldn't cast anymore, but instead Dran had Asher Fiend him when the dude fell flat on his face. That was a really frustrating moment.
>>
>>35701264
It's a good thing the thread died, then. People would have been butthurt about how she killed Omar and voted to try to kill her and then gotten fucked in the process because Petre doesn't have the Bone magic consumption, so he's super vulnerable to Violet mindfucking him.

You stand there, holding her hand for a moment before letting it go. “Truth be told, we don't really know much about each other. Old lives before all this started.” Looking her in the eyes, “I'd like to know more about you.”

Emilia seems a bit taken a back, squirming as she stands before you, thoughtfully touching the hand that you held for a moment longer than necessary. “Um, okay... Where to start?” She turns around, for a bit of a pace.

You back yourself against the wall, “Wherever you want. Just tell me, okay?”

Emilia rolls her eyes down, a finger to her chin in thought, “Okay, well... I was in school for health and fitness, I wanted to be a yoga instructor. I picked it up back in high school and thought it was nice. Slow movements and stretches to work the body... I have a brother- he'd been to jail a few times... I'm uh.” She looks lower, touching her forearm, “I'm pretty sure he's dead. And my mom. And dad.” She shrugs as though to convince herself, “Never know though, if your sister's alive, someone from my family might've made it.”

“You okay?” You say as you notice the slight beading of tears at the corner of her eyes.

“Y... No.” She brushes it away, “I'd uh, not really been thinking about it. Tried to ignore it during that drug session Saph put us all through.” With a deep breath she finds her center again, “But, it's okay, right? Because they'll come back. Some day.”

“What do you mean by that?”

Emilia smiles to you, though her eyes are still a bit wet, “Saph told me, and Gaia did too. When we die we join everything else. Eventually we're born again someday, sometimes in several or even dozens of different lives... So, they'll be back someday.”
She crosses her arms again, “I remember though, back in that auditorium, I thought that this was all the worst thing that could happen to anyone. I didn't really care what happened to myself anymore. I was said and I didn't know what to do.”

One of the last things that happened in the quest was him erupting into a bone too, so yeah. He would've handled that shit.

His heroism was made more obvious by the fact that he still wanted to try to help people despite not having powers. Even Petre, who could wreck shit up if he tried was all "I got mine, so fuck em.".

You know what she's going to say next, “The baptism.”

She shakes her head, “Not just that. When I almost died.” She touches her stomach. Almost half of it had been ripped out by that wraith.
“Something strange went in me. And when you told me to go on and help myself... I don't know.” She shakes her head, “It meant a lot. I'm sorry that I've always been so attached to you.” She smiles, shifting her eyes your way.
“Before, I was compelled. Now? I see the good in you. And I see the hurt in you too.”

You reflexively clutch at the joint of your shoulder, “Hurt? What do you mean?”

She looks away again, “You make a lot of choices, but they're not really all your own.” She rolls her eyes back to you, stepping forward and taking your human hand into your own. “We can do good things here, with Saph and the others. There's a place for all of us, we just have to find it, right? When we do, things will all make sense.”

She smiles at her, the faint lines of the glasgow scars stretch at the corners of her mouth, “I believe my place is here in Zeitgeist, with you. We'll make some miracles happen and change the world.”

You stare at her for a moment, a grim smile creeping across your own lips, “You're right, we'll change the world.”

But you'll be doing it your own way.

Well she might be losing her husbando soon
>>
>>35701549
Lucia mentioned offhandedly once that the Buddha mastered his own reincarnation, but Asher didn't know that it was a thing that happened with everybody.
>>
>>35701546
I thought for sure that you were going to end the thread on some retarded cliffhanger where we go to try to talk to Camille and get jumped by the entire Overwatch squad and 8 wraiths.
>>
>>35701498
>>35701546
So is it like Hindu reincarnation, where your spirit carries on and you're *kinda* the same guy, just different memories/life experiences, or is like The Elder Scrolls reincarnation, where all souls go into a washing machine and get cleaned/blended until they're all completely indistinguishable blank slates?

Because the latter wouldn't bring me any comfort at all.
>>
>>35701546
>there's a place for all of us

Emilia is still be a child isn't she? We need to ditch for a while until she grows up an realizes the world stopped being rainbows and smiles a long Time ago
>>
>>35701546
>“You make a lot of choices, but they're not really all your own.”
...does she know? Are the puppet strings really that obvious?
>>
>>35701573
It seems to be some weird cross between them. If it's the same whole soul, they're mostly the same dude but they'll have a different life/memories/experiences. But there's also the chance that the souls get fucked up and mixed together somewhat.
>>
>>35701577
The worlds the same as it's always been. Just because children are starving and murdering each other somewhere doesn't mean we get to start being shitbags. And the closer you get to that tier of suffering the more important it is to maintain a strong moral compass, so you can swim through the river of shit and come out clean on the other side.
>>
>>35701598
Pretty sure Asher was a shitbag before this. Dude burned down someone's house and then threw more gas on their dad when he came running out of the house on fire.
>>
>>35701546
How is emilia more hippy than the literal tree hugger? God damn she can't be 20 something, she has to be like 6, where is she pulling this optimistic bullshit from? Has she forgotten she had her baby maker ripped to ribbons? Had bullets slice through her like fucking Swiss cheese? She even thinks reincarnation will bring back her family, God damn lady needs a reality check.
>>
>>35701598
Asher went from chuuni psycho to monster frankenstein. Where's the part that he's supposed to be a good person, then?
>>
>>35701546
I can't wait till emilia finally figures out how evil asher is, can't wait till we use her body to feed our baby florans. She always wanted kids.
>>
>>35701577
>>35701611
There's actual magic in the world now and she's one of the people that can do it, along with pretty much everyone she spends time with. Miracles are a legit thing.

Also, the reincarnation is going to bring her family back. Don't misinterpret what she said as her thinking that she'll get to see them again, she knows she probably won't, she's just happy that they still exist in some way.
>>
>>35701637
They aren't miracles, that implies they're special, they aren't. Anyone can do them with proper training. That's like saying swimming is a Miracle
>>
>>35701611
Harder it gets, stronger you need to be.

It's an interesting contrast to Asher, isn't it?
>>
>>35701607
>>35701613
Well, I was talking more about Emilia. Bad people are bad, good people are good. When a bad person is bad to good people in good circumstances, it makes his badness seem worse and more inexcusable (For example, John Wayne Gacy). When a good person is good to bad people in bad circumstances, it makes their life shine like an angel in a swamp (For example, Jesus).

You don't have to become worse because you're surrounding become worse, in fact it should be the opposite, at least if you don't want to be a filthy sheep.
>>
>>35701656
A miracle is an act of god. I don't think Asher would approve of you putting down his magic like that.
>>
>People edgewanking about how EVIIIIIILLLLL Asher is
You realize that he hasn't done any of this shit outside of theorycrafting and the quest thusfar strongly suggests that he's not going to go full-evil with it. I'll be incredibly surprised if he ever actually sacrifices Emilia for something. Shit, not even one person voted to sacrifice the little kids for an easy charge on the fae portal.
>>
>>35701659
Next thread when?
>>
>>35701674
Oh, yeah, then I approve. Emilia's idealistic goodness can stay with her.

>>
>>35701691
I feel like people typecasted Asher as "Evil guy who doesn't afraid of anything" early on in the quest, and are simply holding onto that way too tightly despite Dran trying to give him more depth than that. Anything that doesn't fit the "evil" stereotype annoys them because that's all they want to believe Asher is.

>>35701765
No, I think the better one will be when we introduce her to her wife.
>>
>>35701737
Not really. Just don't think "Adapt to your environment or you're retarded" is a reasonable way to live ones life. if you're a starving shitbag among other starving shitbags, acting like a shitbag is perfectly acceptable. But being a force for good in that situation is NOT a bad thing, it takes a rare kind of power to be that person, and I wouldn't ever shit on that.
>>

>>
>>35701546
The relationshit drama is always the worst parts of your quests. I'm glad that pondscum doesn't seem to be that bad, but I can only hope that her bullshit doesn't consume future threads in some kind of horrible triangle drama bullshit with Emilia. I don't want to read that at all. It's just plain awful. If you want to write it ahead of time and pastebin it, whatever, but I refuse to play that and tell you that it's good.
>>
>>35701822
>implying
Meli is just gonna steal us away or kill emilia.
>>
>>35701763
Asher's never really been evil, though. He's pragmatic and opportunistic and he dips towards the sketchy end of the pool fairly often, but he really isn't even that bad by the standards of a lot of the people in this quest.
>>
>>35701817
The fact that you think "idealistic moralfag" is even an insult tells me that you're a fucking edgy douche in real life, and I'm glad I'll never meet you.
>>
>>35701822
I don't see what she has to complain about. It's already done, and Meli actually is happy for it and to meet Emilia.

>>35701858
I'm not worried about Melia complaining about things. She's a fucking waifu spirit. That's all she do is waifu hard and rape people in lakes sometimes.

It's Emilia that I'm worried about.
>>
>>35701858
He's implying retarded love triangle shenanigans, it's sister-wife not sister.
My inner /pol/ is so angry right now, but the booze keeps him distracted
>>
>>35701752
Emilia went from not knowing what the hell to do with everything falling apart around her.

Asher immediately went into "these fucking bastards! - but I want to figure out magic."
He was a lone wolf, liked to be the leader type. Didn't really believe in anything, barely even himself to some degree.

Time passes and Emilia starts to kind of believe in Asher, seeing something in him whether it's Fara's influence or whether it's really there.

Asher proves more often than not that he's not a total evil shitbag even if he does make some fucked up choices.
Asher gets dominated by Lucia.
Emili'as dominated by Fara.
Asher's original element is Water. Emilia's original is earth.
In part she gets switched to Ice/wind. He gets switched to fire.

Asher eventually figures that he should let Emilia be free of Fara.
At the time, Emilia was the perfect host because she just didn't really care before, she was despondent.
Now she cares about Asher, she's gotten some therapy and can stand up on her own feet. Confidence re-established and she's resolved to do some real good.

Asher's always had a twisted way of going about doing good.
>Enlightenment of people for Followers/Lucifer via torture.
and now
>Rage beast inspires Asher to
NATURRRRE

Emilia's doing nature through Gaia.

It's weird to analyze them from my perspective...

But it's like they're the same, yet not
>>
>>35701886
I have to ask, why are you even in this quest if you're /pol/ enough to get pissed over something like this? It's been pretty damn obvious for a while that Overhuman is degenerate as fuck.

Whatever man, you can believe what you want, you're clearly a moron anyway.
>>
>>35701892
I have to ask, is the Rage Beast more domination of Asher's soul or is it like an inspiration that opens his ears to things he couldn't hear before (blah blah hippy shit blah blah)?
>>
>>35701892
Not seeing the connection.
They don't really seem the same. Emilia was blank slate that didn't care
Asher was slate with slot for power, and an output slot for well anything for power.
Now emilia is a slate with drawings of asher on it
And asher is a slightly mossy slate with and input and an output slot.
>>

What about your inner /pol/ is angry? I'm kind of lost on this train of thought.

>>35701923
It doesn't actually speak to him first off. Not since the union.

It's a new part of him and just as Asher was starting to think, "Man, I really need a goal, the new ANGRY NATURE part of him was basically like, "Hey, how about THIS direction."

It's not really a resident. I think of it as an... epiphany.

Nah. The only spell that would make it even remotely OP is something like Violet's suggestion spell that can plow through soul defenses even at range.

The burn on touch casting makes it stupid if you can just turn all the air around them into nitroglycerin or just nuke them or something.

And if they're tough enough to survive that, then you really don't want to be nearby them to attempt a touch cast.
