The Obscenity Engine thus far has proven to be both more painful and more bountiful than your initial hopes. Between the crazy AI, servitors wielding fightercraft-appropriate chainguns, and tanks with flamethrowers, you’ve had a good time. You’re a little worse for the wear but the wounds at least remind you you’re alive. Something that could change rather quickly.

Ignitrix’s work on the removal of the AI has finally hit a roadblock. She only has time to re-enable one of two precious systems (along with Navigation) before the Engine and the Space Hulk surrounding it plunge into a maw of the abyss. One option leaves you weaponless but without the need to worry about the Rak’gol swarm outside getting aboard. The other option will give you fire control but also means you will have to spend a good deal of time purging the xenos from your new flagship. Given that you’re going to have to fend off Blood Raven Battle Barges and Rak’gol Marauders the moment the Engine exits the Hulk, you’re choosing the latter.

Besides, you can slay pests like the Rak’gol all day. Right? It’s not like they have sorcerers or anything among their ranks...

Welcome to Khornette Quest.

If you’re a die-hard lover of canon, I suggest you turn away now. Like all things 40k, the gauntlet runs from “worshipping the printed word” to “over the top silliness.” Most of the time it’s somewhere in between. You’ve been warned in advance.

All rolls go against a specified characteristic in the style of Black Crusade. You’ll want to roll under the characteristic value in order to pass the check. The more degrees of success (every multiple of 10 counts as 1), the more awesome of a result. A 1 is a guaranteed success, and a 100 is a guaranteed failure.

Best of three rolls when it’s called for, with a 1 or a 100 instantly taking precedence. If multiple characteristics are being rolled for, each 1d100 counts for its respective test. Any rolls prior to the call for one and those not linking said post will be ignored.

You may burn (i.e. gone forever) 10 infamy to completely reroll a check (i.e. three new 1d100). If you have above 10 infamy, you are allowed a single additional 1d100 roll for any check during a session.

If you have any questions/etc, now’s the time. I’ll push the first update in about 10 minutes.

Excessive meta/whining/waifu’ing/etc goes to QTG. Blatant Samefaggotry will be ignored.

>>
You pinch the bridge of your nose, right between your eyes. Keeping your voice calm, you ask, “How long do we have until the Rak’gol start getting inside? Can we funnel them towards one or two areas in particular?”

Ignitrix doesn’t respond at first. She’s so engrossed in trying to power through the last bit of encryption and code surrounding the AI that you have to repeat the question. “Yes. Here. Need to focus,” she says in quick bursts. To your right, a few meters from the AI’s monolith, a holographic representation of the ship materializes mid-air. It’s surrounded by so many little red dots (which you assume represent the Rak’gol) that the Engine might as well have a second hull made of them.

Acerea walks over from the other side of the room to stare at the map with you. “Hmmm…” she muses, walking around the projection while taping it in several places. Each tap causes another hologram to form nearby, one of a zoomed in floorplan of whichever section of the ship she taps. Given that the Plaguebearer is the next best thing after the Tzeentchean when it comes to Xenos-related knowledge, you let her ponder. For the moment anyways. You had to make a couple of vox calls anyways.

...Or you would if you hadn’t crushed your microbead after the argument with the Blood Ravens. “Did either of you bring a spare bead?” you ask slightly sheepishly.

“Here Dear,” responds Acerea, tossing you her own. “I think I’m onto something here with these ‘railguns’ on the bow. Just give me a few minutes.”

“Sure,” you reply as you catch the microbead midair and activate it. You had at least two major calls to make. The question was which would be first.

It’s been a few hours since you last interacted with the Zoanthrope. Last you knew it was dealing with the Blood Ravens trying to accost the Salvage Team from the Raptor. Whether it survived or if it is even still willing to deal with you is entirely unknown. You’d like to be an optimist but experience has shown you it’s best to assume the worst so you can be pleasantly surprised.

After fiddling with the vox frequency you raise the shuttle pilot. His voice is shakey and full of anxiety. “Y-Yes Ma’am?”

“Are my new ‘friends’ waiting outside like I asked?”

“Yes, they...they are.” You hear him audibly shiver even through the microbead. Good news though.

“Good. I need you to go give the one with the big head your vox unit.”

The pilot’s first reaction is to protest with a loud “WHAT?!” A pointed growl from you shuts his whining up before it even begins. You hear some shuffling, a few “Skree’s,” and then a semi-familiar slithering Contralto fills the line.

“Sssso, you didn’t forget about ussss after all. Your crew issss fine and the Marinessss are dead. They were very tassssty.”

You laugh at the thought of those kleptomaniacs being torn to shreds despite their power armor. “Good, good, glad you enjoyed…”

After a pause, you continue, “I’ve been thinking it over and…”

A warning hiss cuts you off. “I sssshould have known you were going to…”

“Calm down. I just think you might be better off on my Flagship than on the vessel that shuttle belongs to.”

The Zoanthrope remains silent for a minute. If you had to guess it’s experiencing whatever the Tyranid-equivalent of embarrassment is. Finally, it replies, “Where issss thisss ssship?”

“That’s the bad news. Or the good news maybe. If you continue down the corridor we found you in you’ll come across a balcony overlooking it.”

“It’sss inssside the Hulk?”

“It won’t be for long. We’ll be leaving in about…” You glance over at Ignitrix and cough. She sighs exasperatedly and grumbles that she needs about thirty minutes more. Returning to your microbead, “thirty minutes. And you’ll need to be off the Hulk around then either way. It’s going to impact the black hole shortly.”

“That isss a tight window. I won’t be able to get all of my sssswarm there in time.” It doesn’t sound thrilled but you still get the sense it realizes you’re not trying to trick it.

“Well there’s more. You’ll have to fight through Rak’gol to get here.”

“Rak’gol? I am not familiar with them. Can they be eaten?”

“Pretty sure they can. They bleed pretty well so I can only assume…”

“...Are you sssure there’sss no other option?”

You mull it over for a moment before responding. “I’ll see about sending a drone your way. But I would seriously consider either getting on that shuttle or trying to rush the Blood Ravens. Your swarm’s going to be split up either way.”

“Sssso it would sssseem.” There’s the sound of screeching and a few muffled “WHY?!” before the Zoanthrope continues. “I’ve moved onto the sssshuttle with my five besssst gauntssss. The resssst here will wait for that drone for ten minutessss. Then they will try to come to you. Any otherssss I’ll sssend towardsss the Ravensss but they may become mindlesss.”

“Mindless?” you ask. You’re not exactly up to speed on how the Tyranids work.

“Asss sshameful asss it isss to admit, I have limited range of control. Without sssomething like me they will lack direction…”

“I see… Well I’ll see you in a bit then.”

“Ssssss…”

You take that as a positive reaction. Clicking off the bead, you look over to Ignitrix. “Can you give me drone control over here?”

“Why don’t I just BECOME the… yes here. Now PLEASE let me concentrate.”

With that an interface similar to that of the Glaive’s from earlier springs into existence from one of the walls. With no friendly machine spirit to guide you, though, you’re not exactly the best remote pilot. In fact, the very first drone you’re able to get out of the bay (albeit after slamming it into the walls a few times on the way out) is immediately torn to pieces by the Rak’gol outside. So much for that idea.

You step away from the drone controls and reactivate your bead. “You’re going to want to have your Gaunts start moving this way now. The drone is a no go.”

“Thankssss for trying…”

Well now that that’s out of the way…

Acerea seems to still be working on her plan to deal with the Rak’gol. Although a few red dots are starting to break inside some of the drone and shuttlebays, you do notice the Plaguebearer manipulating the drones, tanks, and servitors to deal with them. You’ve probably got time for one more long call and one quick one.

The longer you stare at the dots, the more an idea forms in your head. Talking to Sergeant Damas earlier was infuriating but maybe you can achieve better results by going straight to the top. To that end you try out several frequencies before raising one of the Blood Raven’s Chaplains.

“Who is this? How did you get this frequency?” he gruffly asks.

“Who I am and how I know is not important. What is important is that your Company, or perhaps several Companies, is harboring heresy.”

“How dare…”

You cut him off with verbal steel. “Silence. Do not make me invoke my Rosette or I swear...”

His tone changes almost immediately. Space Marine he may be but the threat of the Inquisition is just that strong. “You must be Inquisitor Cinder then. We have been trying to reach you ever since Sergeant Damas of the 10th company fell silent. You were the last to talk to him and we were worried something had happened to you both.”

“Yes. I am she. As for Damas, we were both ambushed by Rak’gol. He and his squad did not survive. I myself barely escaped with my acolytes.”

Even Ignitrix looks up from her work to give you a thumbs up. You’re selling this pretty well and the Chaplain seems to be buying every word.

“The Rak’gol… we knew they were aboard but we have been avoiding contact. A shame Damas was lost, but he died in the service of the Emperor. Do you require backup? What is this about harboring heresy?”

You think about this for a second. You reasonably know the path the Tyranids will take to get to you so it’s just a matter of having the Ravens not intersect it. For now.

(cont)
>>
>>35631663

“Normally I wouldn’t dare work with your Chapter after an incident that shall not be discussed now. But I’m willing to give you ONE chance so long as you do three things.”

“Name it, Madam Inquisitor. We wish to prove our loyalty to the Emperor and the Imperium.”

“First, you will send at least one barge to the following coordinates…” You nod over at Ignitrix who grumbles something about being an acolyte again. “We will be emerging from the Hulk shortly in a vessel that must be protected at all costs.”

“Of course. May I be so bold as to ask what it is?”

“No you may not. The second thing is you are to immediately send two companies towards the middle of the Hulk. We are currently being besieged by Rak’gol and they are already breaching our hull.”

“The Captain is here next to me. He says there are three already on the way.”

“Good, your company isn’t entirely incompetent then.” You consider one final order. It’s highly unlikely they’ll go for it but you’ve gotten this far… “Finally, you are to immediately bolt down and seal EVERY container aboard your vessels. I have reason to believe the contents of some of them have been tainted due to the odd Warp Phenomena surrounding the Hulk.” You see no reason to tell them it’s actually the Engine behind it.

Iggy needs concentration, and know what she's doing. Let's see what Acerea is cooking up, and if we can improve on it/turn it to our advantage. Maybe pop a quick message to the Raptor & the Inferno first to let them know the Blood Ravens are coming to help and should NOT be fired upon, and to try not to look TOO heretical.

Before checking on Acerea you raise Proditus for a quick word. “Y-Yes Mistress?”

“One of the Marine Barges may try to interface with you shortly. Try not to be too heretical. Also we’ll be coming out of the Hulk hot in a new ship. Keep the Rak’Gol off of us.”

“I… Yes of cour…”

You don’t let him finish. Ever since Small...No-Horn’s “death” you’ve been channeling that energy into Proditus. Mostly because he hasn’t improved one bit since you first met him and since Ignitrix can fill his role easily. He’s rather useless these days actually. But you’ll worry about that later.

Walking over to the hologram projection you observe how the Rak’gol seem to be funneling into two bays in particular. Once inside, the dots start to disappear as they’re picked off by Acerea. Or so you assume. Not all of the Rak’gol are trying to get in, though. A good number of the dots seem to be pulling away from the Engine’s hull to deal with what you guess is either the Tyranids or the Ravens. Or both.

“THAT’S BULLSHIT!” shouts Acerea, startling Ignitrix and you alike. “He can do that?!”

“Do what?” you ask as you walk over to see what she’s angry about. The drone control display is currently displaying the interior of one of the bays the Rak’gol are coming into. In particular, you see one of the Xenos, more an amalgamation of machine, crystal, and flesh, controlling what looks to be the remnants of a Glaive and a servitor mashed together. “Oh…”

“Yeah. Oh. He’s tearing apart everything I throw at him and just adding it to that mechanical abomination.” Apparently Acerea’s still bitter about that potted fern from earlier. Usually she’s not this worked up.

To explain, in DoW you could play as the Blood Ravens, and most of the higher-leveled gear was artifact equipment. The items had little story blurbs on them which had a noticeable tendency to end with something along the lines of "how this relic found it's way to the Blood Ravens is unknown," and they were from all over the place. Thus, the explanation was that they'd run around nicking shit.

They're a chapter that basically only exists in the DoW games, and the protagonists no less. It would be a little confusing for a player to suddenly get his shit kicked in over things he didn't actually do.

Fluff wise, they're a small chapter that's taking constant losses in their sector and aren't overt in their thefts. It wouldn't be worth the effort to kill them. No one really likes them, though. They never get invited to parties.

You watch as the Rak’gol… thing tears apart another group of servitors like they were nothing. Half of the metal gets tacked onto his floating metal monstrosity while the rest is fused with the bodies of the other Rak’gol in the bay. The longer you sit here playing Captain the stronger that thing gets. That said, you can’t pull either of your daemon friends away to help you take it down. Ignitrix has to focus on the AI, flying you out, and keeping you from being blown to bits by the Marauders outside. Acerea on the other Rak’gol that aren’t walking anathemas to Tech and Khorne alike.

“I’ll be back,” you say, cracking your neck as you start to walk towards the exit. “I’m going to go deal with Acerea’s best friend down in Bay #2.”

“Be careful!” calls Ignitrix.

“You can do it!” cheers Acerea.

With that the door shuts behind you and the two return to their work. Judging from what you saw, though, maybe you should try to be a little smart about this.

Fuck that, it's a lost cause. Why suck slightly less at something we never use anyway when we can become ridiculously great at what we already do well? Let's not get any more MAD than we already are. Another 5 points would be wasted on a stat we avoid depending on - we get a bonus on warpchain, mo'dakka, and blast, and that's why those are the only times we use BS.

The way you see it, it’s suicide to just go charging in with just your claws. Sure it’s not entirely glorious to rely on something like a Glaive to do the heavy lifting, but it might keep you alive. And a dead Herald of Khorne isn’t able to claim any skulls.

You make a beeline for your new friend Sheila. The Glaive is where you left it, in the middle of the drone bay near the AI core. This time around, though, you have an atmosphere and gravity to work with. Which makes you wonder - how did the tank not have a problem moving around the last time?

Hoping into the tank, you start it up as you remember. Sheila’s voice once again fills the cabin.

“WELCOME TO THE HAV MAIN BATTLE TANK. MY NAME IS SHEILA, HOW CAN I BE OF ASSISTANCE TODAY?”

“Hi Sheila. We’re going to go kill some Rak’gol but I have to know something - are you able to magnetize your treads or something?”

“YES. THIS UNIT IS EQUIPPED WITH BOTH EXTERNAL JETS AND MAGNETIC MOBILITY ASSISTANCE.”

“So you’re saying this thing can what… fly too?”

“THE JETS ARE ONLY ABLE TO PROVIDE TEN SECONDS OF LIFT IN NORMAL TERRA GRAVITY.”

Which means if you took it into space…

“One more thing. Can you operate autonomously?”

“YES. THOUGH OPERATOR INJURY MAY OCCUR IF TARGETING PARAMETERS ARE NOT PROPERLY CONFIGURED.”

Hmmm…

“Alright, show me how to configure those parameters then. I’ll be sending you outside to approach Shuttlebay #2 that way while I take a lift down.”

“PARAMETERS MAY BE CONFIGURED USING THE FOLLOWING MENU.”

The HUD changes to a massive arrangement of images representing different factions, aliens, daemons, and everything inbetween. Two boxes sit on the extreme edges of the screen, labeled “KILL” and “NOT KILL.” Damned simple.

“Question: What happens if I don’t put something in either box?”

“THIS UNIT WILL IGNORE THEIR PRESENCE UNLESS HOSTILITY IS DETECTED.”

With that in mind, you immediately shuffle through the pictograms to find the Rak’gol. They’re tossed into the KILL column without a second thought. For good measure you move Tyranids into the NOT KILL group just in case they show up. Daemons join them, but otherwise you leave the rest unsegregated.

“Alright Shiela, do I need to do anything else?”

“NEGATIVE. YOU MAY CHANGE PARAMETERS VOCALLY AT ANY TIME USING THE FOLLOWING FREQUENCY.”

A vox frequency appears on the screen. You take note of it and hop out of the Glaive. After a few moments, Shiela starts to move towards one of the launch tubes for the drones. With a whoosh she’s gone, out onto the hull of the Engine and hopefully able to take care of herself. Wait, are you starting to worry about a tank of all things?

Shaking your head to clear your thoughts, you practically run to one of the lifts and punch in your destination. The ride down is perhaps the worst part of the day so far. You’re anticipating a challenging battle ahead but there’s nothing you can do in this elevator but wait. And as any warrior knows, idleness is where the actual daemons lie.

Twin-linked heavy flamers on each side variety, and I think we've got some kind of insane battle cannon instead of the (also insane, and really fun to fire) Carronade.
>>
>>35634060

As soon as the doors pop open you burst forth brandishing your claws. Ahead are two Rak’gol (partially metallic) with their backs to you. Beyond them are perhaps ten more besides the Techno-Shaman. The latter is currently spinning his death machine around and inspecting it. He’s in the middle of the bay while the others are equally spaced throughout.

Just before you can act, the entire ship rocks. Ignitrix’s voice fills your mind a second later.

<We’re golden. Good luck down there>

<Any reason you didn’t vox me instead?>

<I didn’t want to risk the Shaman picking up on it.> You sense that it’s a half-truth. There’s an overwhelming amount of concern coming from her before the mental link dies out.

Shaking your head, you focus on the Rak’gol. Aside from the expected balance act they haven’t moved.

You start to creep forward making sure to keep your weight evenly distributed. Your tail helps in that regard, swaying back in forth in time with each footfall. The Rak’gol still haven’t noticed you by the time you get right up behind them.

Twisting your wrist, you plunge your claws into the neck of the one on the right. It dies instantly but its fellow has already taken note. Mostly from the blood spraying from the wound and the dropped Rad-Axe. Before you can silence it it unleashes a shrieking cry that reverberates throughout the shuttlebay. Your claws shut it up in milliseconds though the damage is done. All ten Rak’gol, plus the Techno-shaman, have turned towards you with murderous intent.

The latter unleashes a battle cry that sends chills down your spine. Enraged by this you bellow out a response that causes the two nearest Rak’gol to recoil in alarm. So these things can experience fear. Good. You don’t think yelling at that massive cannon the Shaman’s wielding will work, though.

It’s a good thing you have daemonic reflexes and that the shuttlebay has multiple venues to use as cover. A chorus of high-pitched whines fill the bay as you dance through the barbed slugs ejected from the Rak’gol’s Razor guns. A couple clip you along the way just due to the sheer number of them (-3 wounds) but they don’t concern you. What DOES concern you is that cannon that’s roaring to life.

You bend low and leap backwards and to the right. Not a moment too soon. The space below you fills with a green beam that burns a six foot diameter hole in the wall beyond. Khornate daemon you may be, but you know you won’t likely survive getting hit by that more than once.

Landing, you dive behind the nearest cover which happens to be crates of some sort. Slugs pound off the sides as you eye the forcefield keeping the atmosphere in the shuttlebay. Beyond lies the vastness of space, except it’s filled with a light show to end all light shows. Howler cannons from the Marauders, Lances from the Imperium ships, Torpedos and Fightercraft from both parties, and the thunderous cry of whatever the Engine has. All of it set against the backdrop of a Space Hulk starting to be torn apart by a Black Hole.

Sadly, you don’t have the time to marvel at the sight. It does serve to remind you about your Zoanthrope friend though.

“HEY. YOU. SHUTTLE PILOT WHO I DON’T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT HIS NAME. GET THAT THING IN THIS BAY NOW.”

You don’t even wait for a reply before switching channels to Shiela’s. “FOLLOW THE NEXT SHUTTLE IN. COVER ITS ENTRANCE UNTIL THEN.”

“AFFIRM-”

>>
So, what are we going to bind that Demon from Iggy's flashback to?

Our Claws? The ship? Shelia?
>>
>>35635213

With that you leap out from behind the crate as it too is vaporized by the Shaman’s cannon. You immediately retaliate with a ranged attack of your own, but the chains go wide. A short dance ensues, with you using the chains to pull yourself out of the line of fire just in the nick of time. Just when you begin to curse the fact your backup is useless, a shuttle swoops into view outside. On top of it is Shiela, main cannon whirling and shooting down Rak’gol stranglers still trying to get inside.

As you dive behind cover for the second time, your support makes its entrance. The moment it’s inside, the Glaive’s cannon swirls to meet the Shaman’s. Both scream as their respective weapons emit a torrent of death at each other. Each stream is canceled by the other, causing a massive explosion just inside the forcefield. This tears the shuttle apart (along with three Rak’gol) but it seems both the Zoanthrope and Shiela prepared for this eventuality. Surrounded in a psychic bubble, the former flies from the wreckage with its five Gaunts. Immediately they leap towards the remaining normal Rak’gol with skrees of their own. The latter fires its jets and clangs to the deck unharmed.

Not wasting this opportunity, you leap with all your might at the Shaman. It’s quick on the draw though. An invisible wave of telekinetic force slams into you and stops your progress cold. You might as well have run into a wall. A wall that really, REALLY hurts (-10 wounds). Blood dripping from somewhere under your hair you roar and leap again.

This time the Shaman’s unable to respond in time. You knock the crystalblades implanted into its arms aside and rake its left side. Two arms go flying before the Shaman catches on. It drives you back with its blades but at least now you’re in striking distance.

To your immediate right, the cannon thunders once more. You hear another eruption from Shiela and the subsequent explosion behind you. This sends your hair and cape fluttering, and motivates you to put forth another cry of battle.

That’s when you feel the weight of the Shaman’s mind slam into yours.

Probably Bolter, with that massive modifier, but it doesn't get our unholy damage bonuses for Unnatural Strength, so it might just piss it off.
>>
heads up guys, we're at 3 wounds
>>
>>35635550
>[1] He can’t be a psychic PANSY BITCH if he doesn’t have a head (WS-10)
>>
>>35635659

And since we're rolling WP... we've got to win against the Shaman or our head could LITERALLY explode. Fucking Shamans.
>>
>>35635686
well i'm completely unfamiliar with BC/DH rules but ELH has said we can go to -13 wounds, but I've no idea what happens when we get below 0
>>
>>35635723

Oh no it's not because of the wounds. See >>35629102. We're having to deal with one of those two bottom powers.
>>
>>35635723
Once we go below 0 we'll probably start getting critically damaged. Stuff like losing limbs or having our head explode, causing people within 5 meters to take an agility test or get wounded by flying shards of skull.
>>
>>35635550
can you clarify what the -10 and +50 mean?
Does a minus makes it easier or harder? or those influencing the DC, or is the DC independent and those only influence our rolls instead?
>>
>>35635723
at zero we are disabled. IIRC at -maxHP we "die". as long as it isn't a true death (like through a null) then we will respawn in the warp after an indeterminate amount of time has passed.
>>
>>35635723
Critical damage in the 40K RPGs is anything in the negatives, and inflict effects based on damage type (Rending, Energy, Explosive, or Impact) and hit location (head, torso, individual limbs)
1d4chan.org/wiki/Dark_Heresy
The crit tables are in the gallery. Read them, marvel, and laugh.
>>
>>35635790
Influencing how easy our ability check will be. Let's say I've got an Ag of 30 and want to roll a test against it. I've got to roll beneath 30. Now let's say I'm checking against agility with a +20 bonus. 30+20=50. I have to roll underneath 50.
>>
>>35635762
Hey, when we go below 0, do you think we'll get points for taking our own skull clean off our shoulders?
>>
[1] and [3] are tied. You have ~5 minutes to break said tie.

>>35635790

>>35635830 is correct.

Fun fact: So is >>35635749
>>
>>35635790
They affect the DC, rolls can't be affected in this system. We try to roll under our stat, plus/minus modifiers, on a d100. Thus, minuses are bad, because they shrink our target range of numbers.
>>
>>35635550
>>35635830

>>35635902
>>35635907

God damn it guys.

>>35635897

Fuck off Vaelys.
>>
>>35635897
Because the two actions do different things. A bolter shot might not be as effective as our claws decapitating him, given their resilience.
>>
>>35635897
It won't do as much damage as our claws with the second option and if we roll under 48 in the 1st option its practically a guaranteed kill.
>>
>>35635897
I don't fancy our chances of lasting long in a WP battle against the shaman, we need to finish this fast. The bolt gun doesn't have enough damage to do that.
>>

The full, raw fury of the Warp smashes against your mental barricade like a tidal wave. For a moment you struggle to hold the line, your eyes narrowing in concentration as you fight off the psychic assault. Such is your resistance that the Rak’gol Shaman has to take his attention away from controlling his cannon. The next shot from it goes wide, soaring over Shiela, passing through the forcefield, and colliding with a skiff outside. The Glaive’s main battery is right on the mark though, causing the technological abomination to explode into bits next to the pair of you.

The Shaman flinches as metal rains down (-1 wound). His mental barrage lets up for just a moment. A moment is all you need.

You cock your fist back then pour every ounce of your remaining strength into the punch that follows. A sickening dual crack of both psychic energy and the shaman’s head severing from the neck fills the bay. The former flings you back across the floor (-1 wound), while the latter goes soaring into a Rak’gol behind it. The Xenos literally evaporates in a shower of gore, leaving you a few feet from where you started.

Around you you see the Tyranids mopping up the few Rak’gol who remained standing. Just as the Zoanthrope notices you and begins floating over, your vision begins to blur. You’re vaguely aware of Ignitrix yelling in alarm in your mind before all goes blank.

Suddenly you’re sitting in a chair. Across from you is Khorne himself, albeit twice your size.

“WELL NOW. SOMEONE’S BEEN BUSY.”

Well while I write fangirl squealing and awkwardness (Pretty much >>35636475), we have to deal with a couple things.

Yes you're a Bloodletter now. Remember we're considering a daemon princess (Like Ignitrix is, not like normal mortals elevated) to be above them. Mostly because I fucked up the ranking initially and am too stubborn to fix it. What matters is the stats and status that comes with it.

>>

>>
>>35636727
>Dumpstats, never a good idea.
exccept they usually are

in this case, its melee vs ranged attack. focusing highly on one over the other gives us superior results

currently we suck ass in balistics and kick ass with melee. +10 to WS would bring us from 58% of success per roll to 68% of success per roll.
While +10 to BS will bring us from 11% chance of success per roll to 21% chance of success per roll.

It is better to just not personally use ranged weapons.

As you fret about not having EVERY skull you’ve taken since the last time you saw him, you’re aware of a hand coming down towards your own. Bracing yourself for what you assume is annihilation, you’re left stunned to find it’s a headpat.

“CALM DOWN GIRL. I GOT THAT ONE ALREADY. IT WAS WRAPPED UP WITH ANOTHER.”

“I… Oh…”

So this is why Ignitrix likes headpats. You note to give her more in the future.

“BUT YES. I AM VERY PLEASED BY YOUR RESULTS THUS FAR. CORRUPTING TYRANIDS AND BLOOD RAVENS TO BOOT? I JUST CALL THAT GOOD WORK. I DO EXPECT YOU TO BE RIDING A BRASS BEHEMOTH INTO BATTLE IN DUE TIME THOUGH.”

“Yes. Yes of course!”

“KEEP DOING WHAT YOU’RE DOING OTHERWISE. NOW RUN ALONG.”

And then you’re back in realspace. But not in the form you remember. It’s stronger, faster, and many other things besides. You. Feel. Amazing. Of course, this change causes the Zoanthrope to skree in alarm and skitter-float backwards. Ignitrix slams and bounces off your mind twice before she’s able to get a coherent sentence off.

Okay so I THINK Ag and BS are getting +5 each from you guys.

Bloodthirster changes are as follows:

+5 WS (Gotta keep it slightly sane or you'll abuse it)
+5 BS
+10 S and T. Your daemonic bonuses go up by 3 each.
+5 Agi
+10 Int
+10 Per
+5 WP (With an additional +10 resistance to any psychic attacks)
+2 Fel

You now have normal daemonic regen. Meaning you heal fully given one hour's worth of rest if the wounds were not inflicted with things like Grey Knight weapons.

Now to calculate that mess out...

>>35637191 is right otherwise. I have to keep the stats slightly sane so it's not a full equalization. For example - you SHOULD have 78 WS and 82 Per. Kinda broken for a quest at this stage.
>>
>>35637191
reread his post
>Okay so I THINK Ag and BS are getting +5 each from you guys.

We got +5 BS from vote and another +5 BS from bloodthirster
total of +10BS

which means >>35636935
That instead of improving WS from 11% chance to fail to 3% fail chance
We upgrade BS from 70% fail chance to 49% fail chance.

(before any bonuses or penalties of course)
>>
>>35637150
Count the combined votes for both AG and BS, we were leaning pretty heavily for it I thought. I for one think it's a good idea to buff up our last resort option. Last couple of threads would have been way easier with a higher BS skill.
>>
>>35636860
If the QM is using black crusade, then circumstantial modifiers to BS can get fairly high and allow us to tag about 30 points behind our WS and get the exact same result. Unfortunately, people only see the "11" and always go for WS. So yes, raising BS will make things more interesting and maybe put both on par.

>>

Char gen, it's fun. But at least it's at the end of the thread and main action.

I have to think on a proper upgrade for your claws. As it is your armor more or less fused into your body.

>>35637276

That is an option. I can put you guys at that level and make it so you just have more negative modifiers. Let's put it to a vote

> [1] Leave as is with few negative roll modifiers
> [2] Stat buff and more negative modifiers in the future
>>
>>35637297
Yes, we already get it boosted with modifiers like in the fight against the tech shammy where we had +50 to it.

Now shut up you got out voted by double.
>>
>>35637297
We still wouldn't have with 21.

It works well and I don't mind not having the highest numbers ever, this works well without crippling other characters or ruining the dynamics and balance of the quest

That is the main issue yes. I'd have to go through and do the same for them.

>>35637405
Those aren't always a option. And people have used other options before too, even though WS and AG had always been our best. Its hardly a terrible thing if a Khornate demon mostly fights enemies in close combat with her claws. And the 21 don't make a relevant difference to 16 to be worth it.
>>
>>35637489
The swiss cheese said as it melted on the pavement.
>>
>>35637479
Then what's the point?

The balance is fine right now so why mess with it for the sake of having a higher number, is that what you want this to be about? Big number syndrome rather than characterization?

>>
>>35637469
Okay, but just the ones who helped us. We'll take them along in our fleet, if we can.
>>
>>35637557
its not about bigger numbers
its about being significantly more badass now that we evolved to a higher tier, and as such facing tougher opponents.
the bigger negative modifiers is because we are fighting tougher things, not as a balancing mechanic to our numbers
>>
>>35637581
It is more work though. I'm happy as is.
>>
>>35637581

As long as he includes text about us WADING through scores of enemies that were threatening to us before our evolution I'm fine with it.

>>
>>35637581
>its about being significantly more badass now that we evolved to a higher tier, and as such facing tougher opponents.
Then why care about the numbers at all?

Because that's exactly what we're doing in story wise, without even needing numbers.

You don't make sense at all.l

>>35636923

<Well,> you begin. <I learned the value of headpats. They’re really nice and I should give you more of them.> Even your “inner voice” is different. It has more power behind it, more force. But somehow it’s also more demure. If you had to qualify it, it’s the equivalent of a tiger roaring and chuffing and the same time. Not that your old voice was puny but this feels more appropriate for a daemon of your standing.

<I uh… oh.> You get a mental image of the Lady of Change blushing. <So you had another visit with HIM then. Congradulations.>

The Obscenity Engine rocks as it swerves out of the way of a few torpedos. Right, that whole space battle is still going on…

<Do you need help up there?>

<Hmph. No it’s fine. I’ll just fly the ship, calculate vectors on every projectile coming towards us, and determine optimal firing patterns all without computer aid.>

<So you’re fine then?> you tease.

<YES I NEED HELP YOU BIG STUPID RED THING> she yells as the ship shudders again.

<I’ll be right up~>

You wave for the Zoanthrope to follow you and begin walking towards the lift you came in on. After seeing that it was completely destroyed by the Shaman’s first cannon blast you turn around and head across the shuttlebay to another. Along the way you chat with the Tyranid.

“So… do you have a name?” It seems like a prudent question. You can’t just keep calling it/her Zoanthrope.

“Ssssytili,” she hisses. Now that you have time to look at her she doesn’t remind you of any of the mental images of Tyranids that you naturally posses. Her serpentine form seems more jagged than it should, and the colors seem off. Not in a “this should be red instead of blue” fashion (though you’d totally approve such a change) but a “that’s an odd combination for a Tyranid” way. If you had to guess? She’s heard the whispers of Chaos for awhile now. You were just the final push that will eventually see her leading a swarm of corrupted bioforms.

(cont)
>>
>>35637794

“Sytili then. Good. You and your flock will be staying aboard this ship for now. Less hassle that way. Pick a few decks and make yourself at home. While you’re at it, ensure we no longer have Rak’gol aboard.”

Your force of presence alone has her bowing her head in acceptance. “Assss you wisssh…”

From there it’s a short trip to the bridge where Ignitrix and Acerea are waiting. Your feathered friend simply barks at you to take control of the main cannons before returning to the twenty holoscreens in front of her.

After the Shaman? This would be child’s play...
