Character Sheet and rules eventually.

=========================
=========================

You are Nila Waelind. Wandering adventurer, immortal arcane master, Divine Magus of the goddess Asra - cute little girl. After having your afternoon drink rudely confiscated by a bumbling local you happened upon a young girl escaping from kidnappers: Amala Lusseel. Last night you dealt with the Magus Kaiya - a challenged woman forced into the role of a kidnapping accomplice by not being smart enough to avoid making pacts with a clearly suspicious Fae named Anssi: your only current lead on Amy's kidnapping. You left her discipline up to the minor nature deity, Issoi - who gifted you a cat's eye stone linked with her essence in thanks for your assistance. Today you are making preparations for traversing the Haius plains and taking care of any other business you may have in the city of Oemis.

The fall air blows through the open doorway of the town guard's office. The burst of wind flicks at the bell attached to the the door and pulls at the clothes of the short-haired woman inside - the tails of the red sash around her waist waving in the air. Thick padded cloth; a mix of blues, browns, and green; and a small metal dagger - it's sheath decorated with the town emblem - tucked into the sash at her waist: Oemis's guard uniform.

"Oh?" The woman turns her head - eyes lighting up as they spot the three of you. She tosses aside the equipment she seemed to be gathering up for patrol - a quiver, a bow, and a wooden spear and sword - and skips up to your group, clapping her hands together and resting her cheek against them. She beams down at the three of you.

"Aren't you three just ~adorable~" she coos, bending down low to get at eye-level with Amy. "I'm Mira - one of the town guards - what's your name, little one?"

Amy smiles politely, stepping back a bit and lifting the edges of her dress-like coat. "Amala Lusseel, Miss Mira," she replies with a curtsy.

Mira smiles and pats Amy on the head. "And what about you two?"

"Hey!" Tuulikki waves half-heartedly from her seat on the brim of your hat, scratching at her stomach and yawning. "Name's Tuulikki."

You spare a glance at the guard, nodding vaguely in her direction. "Nila Waelind."

Mira grimaces.

"Why can't you two have some proper manners like your friend here?"

Tuulikki flushes, averting her gaze with a jerk - her nose scrunching up with irritation. She whips her head back around to scowl at the guard - hair twirl flickering in sharp twist. "I don't get all that fancy manners junk, okay lady? S'nothin' wrong with the way I talk, anyways. If ya gotta problem with it then I'll-" The fairy jumps up into the air, yelping, as the tip of your staff smacks her from the other side of your hat's brim. She rubs at her butt and glares at you, mumbling some curse under her breath. You glare right back.

"I'll have to agree with the fairy on this one," you say, turning back to the guard. "Etiquette is too frivolous and superficial for my tastes. Quite the waste of time, really."

Amy huffs at the both of you and does her best to scrunch up her cute features into a threatening gaze. "I don't know what those two words mean Nila, but you're supposed to respect your elders, you know!"

You tilt your head and stare, squinting your eyes unamusedly.

"O-oh." Amy blinks, looking sheepish. "Right. I forgot!" She twirls back around and crosses her arms, staring up at the guard with a lecture-like expression. "Sorry, Guard lady - err, Miss Mira - but Nila's like waaay older than you and a Divine Magus of Lady Asra. She doesn't need to be polite to you because she outranks you and stuff."

"Yeah!" Tuulikki puffs, resting a hand on her hip. "And I just don't care!"

"Oookay." The guard stares, shifting her feet. "So what can the Oemis city guard do for a follower of Lady Asra? Is there some kind of problem at the orphanage or something?"

You shake your head. "I visited there already Miss - as soon as I arrived, in fact. The children are all doing well." You cough into your fist. "I suppose I have guards like you to thank in small part to that. So there you have it."

"You're welcome?" The guard tilts her head.

"Now!" You place your hands on your hips. "Onto more important matters! Amala here was kidnapped from her home; I'm filing a report, you could say."

Mira gasps - almost falling over as she bends down to examine Amy, turning her head this way and that to check for cuts and bruises. "You aren't hurt or anything, are you, Amala?"

Amy smiles, laughing under breath. "No, I'm totally okay! See?" She twirls around - her scarf and hair circling around her. "It was scary but Nila beat up all the kidnappers like BAM!" She stretches her arms out and swings them like they were wings. "It was neat!"

Mira turns to you. "So you took care of the kidnappers, then?"

You shrug. "More or less, yes."

"Okay, so where are they?"

Tuulikki chuckles. "Nila ain't much for the little details, lady! S'what happens when you're all old and 'big picture' like her!"

You glare at Tuulikki, swiping your staff half-heartedly at her as she laughs - the air rippling where her foot was as she jumps away from the blow.

"I'll have you know that I left the thugs and the Magus in the care of a local deity outside the city by the name of Issoi," you say, talking more to the fairy than the guard.

"Issoi?" Mira says, rubbing her chin in thought. "That's the cat spirit in the old mill storehouse, right?"

"Yes, that's right, Miss. Her Magus entered a pact with her using a very suspicious Fae as a liaison. Anssi was the name, I believe. She was bound by the contract to aid in the Fae's kidnapping scheme and was feeding Issoi laced offerings to get her cooperation."

Mira grimaces again - a far more grave look. "So I'm guessing it's this Anssi fellow who's the real culprit, then? Where's he at?"

You nod. "He's not in the region as far as I know, but he's apparently coming to get Amala within the month. I thought I'd warn you about that."

You give the description you received from Kaya to the guard as well as about the other thugs Anssi had hired; she dutifully jots the information down into her notes.

"Alright, then," Mira says, putting the notebook away. "Is there anything else you need? We can take Amala here into custody or contact her parents if you like?"

You shake your head. "I'll handle that on my own."

"Okay, so now all that's left is what to do about the guys you took care of. Stepping on a deity's toes is tricky business..."

You scratch your cheek, thinking. "Honestly, I believe the only problem is those useless thugs. They're local criminals, I hear. What did that woman call that muscle-headed pushover again?" You snap your fingers. "Noshi was his name! Does that sound familiar at all?"

Mira nods, crossing her arms. "Yup. That's the leader of a local gang that hangs out down by the river. Been a real bunch of nuisances lately."

"Well." You toss up your hands. "You shouldn't have a problem getting Issoi to let you take those fools away then." You stop, squinting your eyes. "But leave the Magus alone. She's just a misguided idiot. She should turn out fine with a little discipline from her god."

"Well, sure, that shouldn't be a problem. Maybe she can help out with some enchantments." Mira adjusts her dagger. "I mean we got this dagger and our gear here enchanted but it's never a bad idea to have more Magi helping out. The Nikula family can't handle everything, after all."

"Ah!" Amy perks up. "That's that thing where you use the metal dagger to enchant all your other stuff just as good as metal, right?"

Mira smiles. "That's right, Amala, I even got an under-shirt that's woven just like chainmail links. We can't go wasting all our metal if we don't have to. The gods don't like that."

Amy beams as Mira pats her on the head. "I'm smart, huh?"

"Enchanted equipment, huh..." You muse, scratching under your hat with the tip of your staff.

"What's up, Nila?" Tuulikki asks.

"Oh, just thinking," you reply. "I'm taking Amy back home through the Haius plains tomorrow. It wouldn't be a bad idea to enchant some equipment for her safety."

"Oh cool, can I come?" Tuulikki blinks, her hair twirl standing on end. "Ah, I mean- can I come shop with ya!?" She waves her hands in front of her face. "I wasn't askin' about- I mean, I know I can't do enchantin' like you can but I can help pick some stuff out and give ya some ideas, ya know?"

You raise your eyebrow. "Sure? That isn't at a problem at all, Tuulikki."

"Ah, alright!" Tuulikki lets out a deep breath, rubbing at the back of her neck. "Thanks."

Get some kind of communication enchantments so we can keep in touch in case of separation maybe? Even if Nila can do it with magic, it'd at least let Amy initiate if she had something.
Also, something to make it easier for her to travel, i.e. not get tired as quickly and easily. She's still a little girl after all.

Nothing like a big strong clawpaws to provide a perfect blend of defense and offense. And menace.
>>
Some good ideas. Definitely second something she can defend herself with (also ideally that can't accidentally kill her if she fails to use it right) and something for travelling.
>>
>>35612256
Eh, I doubt Amy would be able to wield them effectively even if they aren't too heavy for her.
>>
>>35612316
Defending oneself with them: standard reflexive holding your hands up in front of you when attacked
Attacking with them: they'd be big and weighty enough to be dangerous even used unskillfully. Regular martial training wouldn't prepare someone for dealing with that kinda thing.

But it's true, this all assumes they'd be weildy. Callow's call on that.
>>
>>35612126
>Amy wanted to fly, get her a cloak or hood that have a dragon wing enchantment
>Something like what Mira has for her clothing would be a good idea
Both of these sound pretty cool, especially the first.
>>
>>35612232
Communication is grade-school don't-even-need-to-be-a-Magus type stuff so consider that done. Tuulikki's a wind/adventure spirit so she has wind blessings that can help with the travelling issue if you want to take her along.

>>35612245
Senses and stealth are something that can be done with Issoi's cat's eye. Is there any specific senses you have in mind and how many? Also objects you want to enchant with that? Boots for stealth and some kind of necklace for the senses maybe?

>>35612256
That might be problematic for her to wield without some other spells and enchantments to augment her ability to use it. But that runs into being too complicated an enchantment.

It might be better to keep focus on keeping her away from melee range. If you want offensive give her something that let's her use the dragon fire from a distance. Is that okay?

Also, any items you want for spell components later?

Roll me 8d10 by the way.

>>35612452

>>

You're asking a lot anon. I doubt Callow will let Amy get enough enchanted items to become a one-girl army
>>

>Senses and stealth are something that can be done with Issoi's cat's eye. Is there any specific senses you have in mind and how many? Also objects you want to enchant with that? Boots for stealth and some kind of necklace for the senses maybe?
Mostly hearing and sight so she will be capable of doing things during night
>>
>>35612553
Well I kinda assumed the breath we be more for show than anything. A deterrent, big and scary.
>>
>>35612488
That's a bit too complicated for a single enchanted item, especially with these rolls. More like a wand that can shoot a small spark or fireball out the tip.

>>35612567
Alright then. I'll write this out then.
>>
>>35612603
Ah, fair enough then, I'll go with whatever the other anons feel best on the matter then.
>>
>>35612603
Sounds great! The wand sounds fine, sacrificing actual damage for a bigger show is also fine.
>>
>>35612640
Well, if you want to go illusionary that's possible too. Takes much less energy and isn't very complicated for Amy to activate. I'll put the feature in the wand.
>>
>>35612685
Yeah, scare-factor is most important.

>>
>>35612695
Okay. Just so you know the roll was less if the enchantments would work (Nila's skilled enough) and more for how well Amy picks up on the "UI" of them.

Amy curls the toes of her bare feet, kicking her legs back-and-forth from atop the bed in your shared room. She watches as you pour Asra's energy into the assorted collection of gear on the floor - her boots, a hooded cloak, a small necklace with a glowing amber gem that matches Amy's eyes, and a polished wooden wand, and . "So this will let me use magic like you, Nila?"

You laugh, smiling at her from over your shoulder. "Well, not like -me-, exactly. These are just simple spells. You might not need to be a Magus to use enchanted equipment but you still need to use the inscriptions."

Amy frowns, staring at her feet. "I get to do harder stuff if I can use these though, right?"

You shrug, handing over her boots. "Put your socks back on and try using these first before getting ahead of yourself."

She jumps off the bed. "Okay!"

"Now the important thing to remember about inscription, Amy, is mindset." You hold out your finger, beginning your lecture as Amy fiddles with her laces. "That stealth enchantment was made using a cat spirit's essence and Asra's power. So the proper inscription to activate it is one where the idea of those three things overlap. Try picturing a stray kitten sneaking through an alley at night, hiding away from the older cats and the humans. Or something like that. It's your own inscription, so you can make up the story."

Amy shuffles in her boots, rubbing the heel into the wood. "That doesn't sound very...happy."

You slump your shoulders, sighing. "Asra isn't a very 'happy' goddess, Amy, that's just how the magic works. Give the kitten a happy ending if you want, that'll actually help out the process. After you get the image you need to project it into the boots and align it with the inscriptions inside. You know how to do that, right?"

>con't
>>
>>35614201
"Yep, I learned that already! Now let me try!" Amy tightens her eyes closed - face scrunching in concentration. The shadow just beneath the boots begin to warp and waver, wrapping themselves around the leather of the boots like a soft cushion. It suddenly stops, hissing and yowling before retreating back into the ground.

Amy sniffs, small tears forming in her orange-brown eyes. She clutches at the side of her clothes. "The kitty..."

You sigh, walking up to Amy. Your fingers curl with pause before resting you hand on her shoulder. "It's okay, Amy," you soothe. "It's just your imagination. I know it's sad and scary but you've got to lead the inscription down the right path to get the stealth to work. If you let the bad things overwhelm you the cat gets caught, and so do you."

She sniffles, nodding her head.

"Asra's a very mischievous girl too, so try to picture the cat trying sneak up on a friend and scare them, okay? The kitten might not have pare- an owner or a home but it still can have fun with friends or her sister, after all."

"Sister?"

You freeze. "Ah, well, you know. Kittens are born in litters so it probably has a sister or a brother around, right?"

Amy nods, thinking to herself. "I guess that makes sense...I don't have any siblings though so I don't know what that's like." She looks at you. "I'll imagine it has a friend like you instead! You'll definitely protect it if she gets caught, right? Just like me!"

You smile at her - an awkward weight settling in your chest. "Of course I would."

You have enough time to teach her to use at least one item effectively today outside of the dragon wing cloak which you can make progress on.

The doorknob to your room rattles - Tuulikki's muttering curses drifting through the keyhole from the other side. You suppress a snicker, pircturing her trying to hug onto the smooth sphere as she tries to turn.

"Well, Amy," You turn to the girl with a smirk. "She's almost in. You remember what we practised, right?"

Amy giggles, gripping onto the wooden wand; she points it at the door and concentrates.

An ethereal blue glow sparks from the staff just as the door swings open - Tuulikki flying in with a big grin on her face. "Hey Amy! Nila taught ya any cool tricks ye-"

A blue blast of flame streaks outward from the staff in a large cone - a spectral roar billowing through the room and halls.

"AUUUGGH #^@!% WHAT THE HECK ARE'YA DOIN' YOU BUNCH OF JERKS!" Tuulikki tries to kick the flames away - a small gust of wind scratching through the air. "Gimme that stupid wand! I'm gonna break it in half!"

Tuulikki tries her best to appear nonchalant - shoving her hand into her trouser pockets and slumping her shoulders down - but the twitching of her hair twirl gives her away.

You sigh. Honestly. She was always so awkward when it came to anything that wasn't fighting or adventuring. At least she's a lot better than she used to be. You made sure of that.

"Sure, Tuuli." You smile - the same gentle smile you'd given her when you first met years ago. "I don't mind at all." You turn to Amy. "That's fine with you, right?"

"Yup!" Amy beams up at you. "I like Tuuli! She tells great stories."

"Well there you have it, then." You turn back to Tuulikki. "Seems you're coming with us."

"Ha!" Tuulikki's mouth breaks open in a large D-shaped grin. "Alright!"

Small hands and a bare stomach smack against the side of your cheek - Tuulikki's rubbing her own cheek against your temple affectionately. "It's been what? Like, 6 years since ya helped me out back then? That was the best time of my life ya know? I can't wait for tomorrow, Nila, this is gonna be great!"

"Alright, alright!" You say, stiffening. "Can you remove your body from my face now?"

"Ahahaha, right! Sorry. Forget yer not the touchy-feely type." She pushes herself off your face - her hair twirl wagging rapidly. "I can still ride on yer hat like I used to though, right?"

You sigh, tapping your staff against your shoulder. "Yes, of course. But if you annoy me I'll make it swallow you whole."

"Hah! You used to say that ta me all the time!" She leans her face close to your eyes, resting her elbows on the tip of your nose. "Never happened though~"

You twitch your nose and pout; Tuulikki laughs as you try to blow her off your face like an annoying fly.

Amy giggles. "You two are funny! Are you always like this?"

You shrug. "Seems like it, I'd say. Though not at first."

"Yeah!" Tuulikki chuckles - nervous. "I was kinda, uhh, short-tempered back then. Caused a lotta trouble and stuff like that."

Amy's brow furrows. "You mean you aren't short-tempered now?"

Tuulikki's fist clench, ignoring your cackling. "I'M NOT LIKE I USED TO BE, OKAY!?"

And that's it for today!

Wanted to get further than this but, haha, plans.

Sorry the narrative barely moved at all this thread, but I felt like I got to squeeze quite a bit of character and setting info so I hope you enjoyed it.

Comments welcome. Send me questions on my ask. Check my twitter for next thread, etc.
