Remember when we used to start each thread as someone else?
Good. 'Cause we probably won't be doing that very often from here on out, now that I've introduced most everyone. Those of you who want more Akari time, rejoice! Those of you who like the alternate POV times, worry not- I'm not saying we won't switch POV anymore, just that we don't really /need/ to as much anymore.

Also, don't forget about INSIGHT CHECKS! Just:
>Reply to the post
>Roll 1d5
>Greentext something from within that post that you want to know more about
>And (if you wish to make my life easier/get a more relevant bit of insight) ask a question or make a comment- not in greentext- below your greentext!

I'd also like to address/formalize VOTING PROTOCOL:
>When voting, put the option you're voting for in greentext, linking back to the post you're voting towards.
>If you want to do a write-in, choose the “>Something else? (WRITE-IN!)” option, and put your write-in in greentext below it.
>If you wish to support a write-in, vote as you normally would, link back to the post containing the write-in, and include whatever it was that that particular anon... well, wrote!

ADDITIONALLY, I'd prefer that you do Insight Checks and votes in different posts, if at all possible.

YOU are Akari Takamichi, and you're beginning to get the feeling that this is gonna be a long day.

Which is rather impressive, really, seeing as its hardly mid-morning.

Still, it's not like that was a hard call to make- what with a giant robot and a swarm of smaller robot-dinosaurs just around the corner, advancing down the road in a slow, steady set of 'BOOM... BOOM... BOOM's. You figure that something like this would make anyone's day significantly longer, in all fairness.

You look at your comrades, checking that everything is in order. Kyouko and Sayaka are stretching and (presumably) casting spells on one another. You find yourself hoping that Kyouko has some sort of 'athleticism' buff.

Strength is supporting herself with her giant robot arms and swinging her legs back and forth in a surprisingly carefree (and cute!) manner- her scary murder-blade-tail-thing undulates gently in a sort of swish-swish kind of way, and you get the sense that she's far more used to this sort of thing than you'd like her to be.

Chariot is sitting down and assembling what looks to be a humongous gun of some sort, humming a jaunty tune and looking as if all is right with the world. By the looks of it, she's almost done with the weapon.

Mami is holding the gently-glowing crystalline 'Psi-stone' that you can't see as anything but super-shady, muttering to herself- after you asked her about her powers, her eyes lit up, and she muttered something along the lines of, 'The brighter the light, the deeper the darkness, and the more blind we become,' gave you a remarkably-determined nod, and looked you straight in the eyes. 'I'll handle it,' she said.
And you believe it, too.
You've not seen her that determined before.

It's... a welcome change.
>>
Mato places a clawed, gauntleted hand on your shoulder with surprising gentleness.

You look up at her, and she quirks her eyebrow and tilts her head quizzically, as if to ask, [Are you alright, Akari? What got into you back there?]

Mute though she may be, you can easily tell that she's worried, just looking into her eyes.

That's... hard to explain.

How do you respond?
>'Nothing, nothing... I'm fine.'
>'I... guess I just got a little to fired up.' (Awkward laughter)
>'Don't worry about it.'

You cringe inwardly. You don't exactly want to explain this.

You're not even sure /how/ to explain this.

You can't lie to her. Even if the truth is really weird.

Because she's Mato.

… you're going to end up having a talk after this, huh?

Oh, well.

After all, it could be worse.

You could end up fighting even more giant robots or something.

You look her straight in those deep, blue, worried eyes, and you tell her the truth.

“The...” Okay, yeah, this sounds crazy, and you're only a word in.
“The fire got a little... greedy. But I've got it all under control, now!” You blurt the last sentence out, not wanting to let her react fully to the first one before providing your feeble attempt to allay her concerns.

Mato's eyebrow arches a bit higher.

OH, look! Chariot's finished with her gun-

The cold metal of the side of one of Mato's clawed fingers presses against your chin, making you look at her once more, bringing her stern gaze into view again.

>'I'll explain later, okay?'
>'I... I can't say I understand it, myself.'

I kinda want to include the optional, but I don't think Akari would be that dismissive of Mato's problems. So let's be dismissive of our own problems instead!

The optional shifts the discomfort somewhat from being uncomfortable with the situation/conversation to being uncomfortable with the whole 'Staaaaaaaaaare' method of discussion.

Mato's only 'pushy' when she's being a worry-wart, or when you try to dismiss something she thinks is important.
It's pretty chilly? Hard, metallic, smooth. Her claw-gauntlet-thingies are only sharp at the fingertips, and not on the sides or the tops/backs/not-the-palm-side, so it's not like she's stabbing your face or anything.

Also, you can't help but find Mato a bit more... /something/ ... in the armor. You're not sure what that something is... but you kinda like it.

Again? Geez, dice gods, stop with the bias.

You'll probably talk until Mato feels assured that you're okay.
The real question is:
Is any conversation with Mato really /that/ uncomfortable?
No, wait, that's not it.
It's a question of how well and how quickly you can explain yourself.

“Mato... can we talk about this later?”

She brings her face close to yours, leaning down until you're nose-to-nose, her eyes narrowed.

She's wondering if you're just saying that to placate her, and intend to weasel out of it.

Wondering if you're willing to lie to her to get out of uncomfortable situations.

… probably wondering if you're losing your mind, too.

To be fair, those aren't unreasonable things to wonder. Especially that last one.

“I mean it, okay?”

She hesitates for a moment, as if unsure whether or not to believe you.

She seems to come to a decision rather quickly, though, as she rights herself, towering over you once more, and pulls you into a hug.

Your face is mashed rather unceremoniously into her flat, and, thus enveloped (surprisingly gently) by her power-armored arms, she plants a kiss on top of your crown, humming softly from deep within her chest to convey her satisfaction.
You wrap your arms around her as well, returning her embrace.

After several moments, you part.

Everyone seems to be ready.

Do you have anything to say to them before you do this?

>>
You're supposed to say something, here, aren't you?

Hmm.

Ah!

Yes, that'll do just fine.

You clear your throat, and everyone's attention is on you.

Which is a little unnerving, to be honest.

… actually, it's quite unnerving.

Still, your will is ironclad. A little stage-fright is nothing compared to fighting a giant robot, you reason, and the nervousness that was building in your gut subsides, limping away like a puppy with its tail between its legs.

"Girls,” you begin, “I know you're afraid to go at it with maximum power. I know because I have that problem, too.” Mami and Kyouko seem particularly interested after that line.

“I feel like I live in a world made of cardboard, always taking constant care not to break something- to break some/one/.” Strength and Mato both nod minutely, in that unconscious, 'PREACH IT, SISTER' sort of way.

“I can't allow myself to lose control, even for a moment, because someone could die.” You wince inwardly at the truth of that statement, and note that Sayaka reacts rather visibly towards the end, there. You'd be willing to bet there's a story behind that.

You pause for a moment, both to let yourself un-cringe, and to build... tension or something. You look each of the girls in the eyes, see their fire. And then you continue, “...But, these guys? They /can/ take it, and if we don't use every trick we've got... if we don't stop them, there's no telling how much damage they could cause.” Chariot's eyes narrow, and she cycles the action of her oversized gun, pulling back on that little metal handle-thingie and allowing it to slam back into place with a loud CLACK.

You grin, crack your knuckles, and allow a softball-sized flame to flare into life in your hand. “So... why don't we cut loose and show them just how powerful we really are?"

>LET'S DO THIS.

“So, Mami-sempai, Kyouko-san, Sayaka-san, Strength, Chariot, Mato- are you ready?”

You look to each of the girls as you say her name, and get affirmatives from each of them.

“Alright then,” you say, clenching your hand into a fist and smothering the ball of flame, “LET'S DO THIS!”

You all burst out into the street in front of the robot-dinosaur procession. Sayaka and Kyouko split off and head down the street begin setting up that trap- carving the rune into the pavement with their weapons, it seems. Mami heads into the middle of the intersection, presumably to do her thing, and the rest of you- Chariot, Strength, Mato, and yourself- form a line between the drill-haired blonde and your foes.

You feel rather scrawny, standing next to the metal-plated cyborgs and your metal-plated girlfriend.

For a brief moment, you wonder what it is that Mami's going to do.

That brief moment is brought to an abrupt and somewhat unpleasant end by means of a bright flash and a loud BANG, which leave your ears ringing and your eyes stinging as they try to adjust to a light that's no longer there.

Even over the ringing in your ears, though, you can hear the odd and disturbing noises made by the smaller robot-dinosaurs- and, as your eyes readjust to normal light, you can see that they're stumbling around and bumping into one another.

The big one, though, doesn't seem particularly bothered.

It tilts back its head and lets out a garbled, distorted roar- one that prolongs and intensifies the ringing in your ears and makes your head hurt.

Mato's got her clawed hands clamped over her own ears, and looks to be in pain. You forget how keen her senses are, sometimes. Chariot, however, seems largely unaffected, and Strength shrugs it off with a shake of her head.

It seems her eardrums had been either ruptured or perforated, and her unnatural regeneration worsened the illness one would usually experience during recovery from those things- probably because she went through the whole process at once.

You promise to cook something awesome after this, and she tives you another thumbs-up.

Your eyelid twitches.
Your jaw works up and down.

Your fists clench.

It took you all of a thought to reach your proverbial boiling point:

'That thing hurt her.'

You turn away from her after another moment and face your foes.

Just seeing them is enough to cause you to erupt into flames.

The little ones are still looking like they just got back from a wild party.

The big one isn't doing much of anything- it didn't get damaged from Mami's thing... but apparently its operator did.

You can hear Mami fussing over Mato behind you, and Chariot and Strength are both looking at you curiously.

You scowl at the big, motionless, metal lizard.

You dare it to move. To do anything. To entertain the slightest hope of survival. Just so turning it into a steaming puddle of slag can be that much more satisfying.

You seethe at it- you actually glare so hard that you begin to see thin wisps of smoke coming off of its stupid robot face.

The sudden roar of Strength and Chariot opening fire on the little dinosaurs is enough to jerk you out of your ineffectual stupor... and make you realize that, more than anything else, you want to blow it to kingdom come.

… You know you haven't been able to throw fireballs for the past while.

But you're way too angry to care about something as minor as that in the slightest.

You cup your hands together in front of yourself and brute-force your way through the process of forming a fireball, filling the gaps in the methods that your subconscious used to perform with copious helpings of fire and heat.

… Until you reach a step that you can't just burn your way through. The fireball's already about the size of a basketball, but there's still one more step...

The giant metal machine begins to stir, and you have to make a decision:
High? Or low?

You're not really sure what the difference will be, just that there /will/ be one, and it /will/ be drastic.

Which will you choose?

… You can't think of any reason that making a fireball would involve using /less/ fire.

Thus, you give it more power... and more, and more, and more and...

It's not getting any bigger.

Which is odd, 'cause that's kinda what you expected.

More is more, after all.

There's a pause in the gunfire, followed by what sounds like a couple hundred spent casings being ejected all at once.

It's almost a rainy sound, really.

Just... more metallic. Less wet. And so on.

… still, your fireball's being weird.

You give it more and more and more power.

So focused are you on making this stupid fireball get bigger (which it doesn't, by the way), that you don't even notice as Mechagodzilla decides to gift its malevolent, soulless glare unto you.

You can feel /something/ happening within the STILL basketball-sized ball of flame.

You just have no clue whatsoever as to what the thing that happens to be happening happens to be.

A high-pitched whine emanates from the giant robotic lizard, and you look up from your work for maybe two seconds- just long enough to mutter something to the effect of 'cool your jets, I'll kill you here in a minute'- before continuing to add MORE POWER.

And, when it fires prismatic beams from its eyes, you don't even flinch.

Probably because Mami scattered them into harmless (but very pretty) flashes of colored light.

The machine roars, and Chariot and Strength open fire again.

And THIS FIREBALL WON'T GET ANY BIGGER.

… The little ball hit the machine, and then...

Well, you're not really certain.

There was a funny-sounding THWUMP, a flash of light, and an odd whistling sound... then came the screeching of metal being torn apart, the eerie silence that dissipated mere moments after it began... and, finally, the fiery explosion that engulfed...

Well, it was big enough that you couldn't actually see what happened past it.

It /was/, however, loud enough that you can't hear a thing.

So... that's always fun.

In fact, the last thing you heard was Mami- she said, “What the fu-”

You blink away tears- fire may not bother you, but the acrid smoke irritates your eyes just like everyone else's.

You've got a marble of doom orbiting you.

FUN FACT: If you hadn't come to a decision, it would've been dubbed 'The Third Bun' by Mato.

You follow the orb of destruction with your eyes, and find that it's the one doing the following... when did that change?

This is weird. You can move it with your mind, now.

It kinda reminds you of the Eye of Sauron.

Ah, there's a name.

THE EYE OF JUDGMENT.

That'll do just fine.

You make it bob up and down, side-to-side, and-

A pair of metal arms wrap themselves around you from behind.

A charred Strength and an explosion-swept Chariot approach, and Mami, after fussing over Strength for a few moments, turns to you and begins moving her mouth.

Between being unable to hear her, and having a doting Mato rubbing her cheek affectionately- and perhaps a bit possessively- against the top of your head, you have no idea what Mami's trying to say.

Fortunately, she's a photokineticist, so she can just show you.

Ah.

The fuzz are on their way, and she's going to send Sayaka, Kyouko, Chariot, and Strength back to her apartment- they're not Judgment, after all, and you get the feeling that wizards aren't exactly tolerated here. Or anywhere.

She wants to have Mato take them there- both because Mato's armor might raise questions, and because she really should get something to eat ASAP. Also, she likes to keep her transformations a secret as much as she can- and generally does a remarkably good job.

She goes on to indicate that you and her should stay and take whatever blame, credit, or whatever that might be laid upon you- especially since you've got a tiny death star and presumably-ruptured eardrums.

After all, this'll be the fastest way to get your ears fixed- and to find out what that ball is.

She tilts her head and inquires if you know what it is.

You shrug (at least, as much as one can when in a CLASS 7 MATO-HUG).

And, now... you wait.

At least Mami lets you use her lap as a pillow.

It's so... pillow-y and soft.

Why, you could just fall asl-ZZZZZZZZZ
