Your sisters and friends trail behind you- or ride behind you, as the case may be. Whatever.

The darkness of the passage is supernatural. Not even your sight can penetrate it- You're left stepping carefully, only able to see a foot or so around yourself. Sara follows close behind you, keeping one hand on your shell. It grinds at you that you can't simply tear the enchantment away. YOu can feel the pulse of magic, but it's somewhere far, far beneath you. Not anywhere within your reach, in any case.

The hallway tilts, twists, ever so slightly- With the darkness is place, you'd never even notice. Except you can hear the song of the Earth, still vibrating through you, revealing all the secrets of the dungeon ahead. You know you're in a spiral... ramp, for lack of a better word. You know there's a wide open room waiting for you at the end.

You know where the traps are, you could feel the footsteps of the guardians. You know which walls are hollow, which tiles are triggers.
It feels nearly dirty. This is the definition of cheating. The DM left to grab a drink, and you skimmed his notes. You laugh a bit, and you can feel your quiet chuckles draining the tension from the group behind you.

It takes a little while, but you reach the bottom of the passage- flickering runes reveal the room ahead.

It's as wide as you thought- The centre dominated by a two tiered fountain, water trickling through with nary a sound. Four pillars support the walls, each as thick around as your spider body. The blue glow illuminating the room flows, runes flaring to life in an unending cycle. Dad said they were just a showy way of providing light- supremely difficult, expensive to enchant. Wasteful.

A wizard shouting at the top of his lungs: 'look at me, I'm important!'

The runes skitter over the stone of the room, and into the hallway beyond- A straight passage that splits into opposite directions at the end. You can feel the grinding gears, the lingering magic of a trap in the floor somewhere down the passage, the easy shifting of feet around each corner. Magic burns somewhere in the walls... the left, you think. Definitely the left.

Your companions spread out around you, staring in awe at the overly large and entirely useless room.

You smile.

REQM, I had an Idea but forgot to mention it last thread. Can we retcon that we made some straps and a basic harness for our spiderbutt, so Jin and Shez can hold on even when we're moving on the walls and ceiling?

Being able to avoid most traps will be a bit less useful if we're encumbered with monstergirls.

>>35565670
Nah, the Boss is in the pool, guarding the exit.
>>
>>35565680
Oh man that's clever
>>
>>35565636
ok, so I am assuming we entered in the E at the top left. and that we are now in the room just under it with the 4 pillars.

I say we use earth manip to mangle pressure plates from as far we can just in case. this should naturally trigger the traps, but nobody will stand on there.

Just to be safe, direct our pack around them.

>>35565680
Don't you mean "boss is the pool" (an animated pool filled with a giant water elemental)
>>
>>35565636
>foot steps

Head towards them. Since we know where all the traps are and can break magic, active guardians are the only real threat here. Take them out so we don't have to deal with them attacking at the wrong moment or something.
>>
>>35565670
And the huge room at the right end of the map doesnt scream boss arena to you?
Also the footsteps indicate enemies, unless our boss is some kind of spectral creature.
>>
>>35565712
Could also be a sort of sleeping boss, it doesn't activate until we're in front of it
>>
>>35565657
The little magic sources are untrapped and have no guards. We might as well check them out first. Also, that room to the north is weirdly out of the way, it might have some more mundane treasure. We can check it out when we leave, assuming the dungeon doesn't go full-on Zebes when we destroy the magic powering the place and/or defeat the boss of this place.
>>
>>35565680
It's be pretty weird for the boss to be right at the entrance. Unless it's one of those "trigger as you leave" bosses.
>>
>>35565712
I don't think every guardian in this dungeon is going to be constantly moving or walking at all. These were made by paranoid and crazy wizards, they would take tremorsense into account.
>>
>>35565739
We can check it out first and wait to pick it up as we leave, I bet it's money, piles of money
>>
>>35565747
I think he means the other pool. You know, the big fancy over-the-top boss room on the far right?
>>
>>35565747
You'd never see it coming, the moment we try to leave the exit is going to lock down and the pool starts flooding the place.
I would do it like that.

I would find it even weirder if the boss where somewhere as far off as the big M.
>>
>>35565780
Well, he said pool in the center, which can really only mean the room on the left, which is the first room of the dungeon.
>>
>>35565780
I don't think that's a pool, looks more like a dais, I bet there's like a throne or something on there

You dick.
>>
We're clearing all the rooms in this for sexy loot right guys?
>>
>>35565857
I am not seeing this at all
what I am seeing is that if we go straight, we will reach a point where to our left are 2 magic sources, and ahead of us a spike trap and a T intersection. with 2 guards on each side of the spike trap.

we obviously deal with the 2 magic sources first and whatever is in the room with them

then afterwards we can bait the two guards to charge us over the spike trap, or disable the trap and attack them.
if they don't get baited because they know of the trap, we use wallclimb to pass over the trap and attack one, leaving the other unable to come to their aid without triggering the trap.

I'm having so trouble, Let me make it again. It should be under Re:Monster Quest Map.
>>
You can feel the itch of excitement crawling down your spine. This is too good to be true. You turn on your sisters- who both blink at the near manic smile you're wearing.

"Are you ready?"
Sara gives a cautious nod, while Aria makes a face.
"That whole passage was weird. I have no idea where we are. Or how far we've come."

You nod.
"It was a spiral, yes?"
You gesture with one finger, drawing lazy circles in the air.
"The dark was so we wouldn't notice. We are pretty far underground now."

Aria raises her eyebrows.
"Huh. Okay, then."
"Mhm. Step lightly, yes? There is...Well. There is something ahead, in any case."

Your group follows you around the fountain, footsteps muffled by the quiet rush of water. Sara interrupts.
"I am not that heavy, am I?"
You blink.
"Wha- No, it's- It's a phrase, yes? It means to be careful."
"Oh. Okay."

The hallway is a comparatively simple affair. Perfectly flat walls, floor, roof. Runes glowing everywhere. You follow the path, but stop short, facing the wall.

You can feel a room beyond. Magic. You glance up the hallway as your companions pile up behind you, awaiting patiently. You know there were creatures beyond the corners further up the halls, but you can't feel any footsteps from here.

>Look for a switch. Or something. Get to the hidden room.
>You're a giant spider. Smash a wall.
>Work on getting rid of those guardians first.
>Other(?)
>>
>>35565937
those 8 are "small magical signals"
but i see your point

although if footsteps size indicates monster size then we have a pair of giants near the spike trap.

also, only 4 mobs total in the dungeon.

... unless... mm, hard to tell what is a pillar and what is footstep
also, hard to tell between small footsteps and small magical signature.

QM, are you using photoshop to make map? do you know that photoshop is CS2 is free (legally free)?

This will attract the guardians through the spike trap, damaging them and forcing them out of ambush position.

BEST OF ALL WORLDS BY SMASHING
>>
So.

Lyra is capable of ripping magic away from things and taking over another person's projected magic, an ability unseen up till now.

Most mages / ancient ruins are going to have undead or golems animated by magic.

Lyra is a giant spider and therefore has none of the negatives being an adventure normally has, always available rope, ridiculous strength, capable of trapping and getting food for herself and eating it raw, immune to most common poisons because she is venomous herself, and able to make a hefty amount of coin regardless of where she is because of her silk.

Lyra is fucking broken for an adventurer, the only downside is her size, and she has Tiny Harpy and Tiny Wolf to get past that.
>>
>>35565993
Web up the hallway bordering on the spike trap. Very few things can tear through strong webbing, and if the guardians detect us opening the secret door, it'll hold them off and possibly get them stuck in the spike trap.
>>
>>35565993
Check out those magical doohickeys in the side-room to the north. Maybe set off the spike trap with a 10 foot pole, see if it resets or not. If it does, pull the guardians through it, if it doesn't, just pull them round the corners and let loose with everything as they get into range.
>>
>>35565993
>Work on getting rid of those guardians first.
after we take them out we go back here and fiddle with the magic (in b4 the magic backstabs us)
>>
>>35565993

a lot of creatures in this world are like that though, except for magic ripping, I am sure proper mages have their own counters to enemy magics anyways.
>>
>>35566071
The trap is in front of the two guardians. If we can find a way to activate the trap and get them to fall into it, it'd be killing two birds with one stone.
>>
>>35566062
Yes, she is broken for an adventurer.
>>
>>35565993

>>
>>35566101

There is a difference between "Countering enemy magic" and "Having the very magic you command turning against you"
>>
>>35566062

>>
>>35565993
>>35566016
>>35566036
>>35566048

>>
>>35566001
I've got CS2 and MS5. Posable 3d models for reference are the absolute best, but all the programs in the world can't stop me when I shitscribble.

The small dots are all the small magic sources, the large dots are the footsteps.
>>
>>35566139

The only possible way around that would be animating golems with magical cores.

I mean, according to Dad necromancy is closer to enchanting than normal magic, very hard to master and very hard to get rid of, and Lyra was pushing the off button like crazy against that Skellington army.
>>
>>35566139
I imagine trying to rip out the magic of a carefully crafted construct that's been active for x amount of years is a different animal than ripping the magic of a newly animated skellington.
>>
>>35566139
We could do that with the skeletons.

But I'm more interested to see if we can use it to take control of magic creatures.
>>
>>35566001
The giants are almost certainly there to scare you into retreating, so that you'll fall into the spike trap.
>>
>>35566156
Look on the mao again, the hidden room is the one with the two magic sources, further up the halway are the two sources of footsteps we hear.
>>
>>35565993
>Work on getting rid of those guardians first.
>Look for a switch. Or something. Get to the hidden room.

>>35566156
No, this is a hidden room to the side of the hall. The guardians are at the next T.
>>
>>35566139
The way I see it, ripping the magic out of a golem down here would be infinitely harder than disrupting the necromancers skeletons. Those had a line that could be severed.
If a golem can survive down here without the presence of a wizard, he's got some sort of regenerating powersupply.
If we tried it, the golem might be paralyzed for a bit, then its supply would jumpstart it into moving
>>
Alright, counting!
>>
>>35565993

You frown at the wall. You really don't feel like being ambushed while you indulge your inner adventurer.

Turning back to the hall, you point to the end, drawing everyone's attention.

"There are two creatures at the end of the hall, yes. One in each direction." You whisper.
Aria stiffens, her grip tightening on glaive. You put a hand on her shoulder.
"And in the center of the hallway, there is a trap."

Now they're all giving you looks.
"Thought you didn't come down here, Lyra?"
You nod to your sister.
"I used a bit of magic at the entrance, yes? I asked the earth to show me the dungeon."

More eyebrows.
"So, ah- I know where everything is."
"Everything?"
"Yes."

"Like what?"
"Like... There is a room. Here. Through this wall."
You gesture to the flat surface beside you.
"There's magic behind here, yes? So we will get rid of our enemies-" You nod at the hall.
"-And then we will see what is hidden."

You get a series of agreements all around.

Dungeon rodeo.

Make a lasso or weighted teather, go around the corner, hook one of the guardians then drag it back over the spike trap.

It will be hilarious and remove one of them without risk.
>>
>>35566547
>They are kind of mutually exclusive because the triggering requires at least on eof us to go near the trap and the enemies. While the second one doesn't.
this is not true, there is no reason for us to stand next to the pressure plate in order to trigger the trap by luring them

we "lure" them by attacking them at range and they step on the plate, if they step around the plate we hit it with a rock to trigger it.

wrong on BOTH counts

First of all, you can't shoot someone through a wall, so we are going to have to get near the trap anyways in order to shoot at them from across the bend
see line of sight image attached

secondly, we are hoping they trigger it as they charge us, or ATTEMPT to do so from afar by depressing the pressure plate with magic (as i explicitly stated)
while it is not 100% guaranteed to succeed from afar, it is certainly possible to make the attempt and there is certainly a good chance of success

How would making noise require us to shoot at them? Thats a different plan altogether.

And no, we can't do it from afar because we can't see that far ahead because of the magical darkness.
>>

Which is the point in luring them to us with noise, so they come to us and we don't need to shoot around the bend, like in the Sara plan.

The luring them in would always require us to go closer than the noise plan.
>>

This trap... You focus on it.
Magical.
Of the earth, even.

You can't even hold the snickering in, looks be damned.

Sheszka scratches at one ear idly, while everyone waits for you to stop being an idiot and share the news.

"-ehehehhe... Er. The trap. Yes. The trap is a bit of earth magic."
They keep looking at you waiting patiently.
This... is getting kind of embarrassing, now.
"Uh- I can trigger it. So we can just pull whatever is around the corner through it."

They all agree quietly that it is, in fact, a pretty good plan.

Aria readies herself next to you. Sheszka slides her gauntlets on, fingers clinking. Sara summons an orb, sending it whizzing down the hallway, floating above the trap. Jin is preening.

As the hall bathes in the light of stars, you can feel the tremble of stone- They're coming. One picks up it's pace, rounding the corner in a blaze of speed-

It's a golem, of some sort. Wide shouldered, blue stone. It takes up nearly the whole hallway, blocky and menacing. Lights burn in its eyes, and you can feel the ancient pulse of magic ignited within it, burning higher as it readies itself to fight.

You twist the magic beneath the floor of the hall.

The stone erupts- A sound like a roar echoes through the contained space, a rush of air and dust. More spikes that you though possible fill the space before you, packed so closely together you can't fit your hand through.

And then they're gone, and the rushing golem with them. You can feel its tattered magic dissolving, its stone returned to rest. To dust.

The second steps past the trap- A golem of red-orange stone. One arm, one foot is simply gone, and its whole right side is a mess of gouges, ruining the smooth surface of it's form. Its magic is flickering, starting to flare as it barrels down on you.

>>
The fire of magic swells within it, growing with each ground-shuddering step. You focus your sight, your senses- But the whole thing flares with magic, making your head pound.

You snarl, recoiling a bit and settling into a stance.

More than one way to smash a golem.

"Aria! Knock it down!"

You sister surges forward at your shout, aiming a heavy blow at the construct's ankle, both hands gripping hard around the haft of her weapon.
Behind you, the whole hallway is lit with glow of Sara's magic, orbs blazing with power. Jin holds her wings open, waiting for a chance- Sheszka blazes past your sister, slipping behind the golem faster than it can react.

The creature raises its remaining hand, fingers clenching, readying a punch aimed at Aria- Its eyes burning ever brighter as its power swells-

And Aria's blow comes down, stone splintering under the force of it. You can hear the rapid-fire sound of meta on stone as Sheszka hacks at its legs.
Your voice rings out clear, above the sounds of battle: "LEG!"

Sara's magic tears past you, and sizzles into the stone. The golem totters above, steps uneven, its blow sailing far past your sister, flailing at empty air.

You step up, leveling a blow of your own at the stone giant's crippled leg- The force alone vibrates through your weapon, wood straining, while the leg crumbles further.

Spotting an opening of her own, Jin unleashes a torrent of starfire, leaving countless pockmarks across the surface- Sara's magic is close behind, burning through the stone effortlessly, chunks falling away from its shattering form.

Aria is yelling wildly, wielding her weapon like an axe, choking up on her grip, hacking away at leg- The monster's free arm is now sweeping out, trying to correct its balance. You scream a warning to Sheszka, and bodily throw yourself into the construct, sending it tumbling backwards, landing with a seismic thud.

Magic, weapons flare side by side, smashing down into the fallen giant, and you swiftly reduce it to rubble. You check each of your companions- Your sisters are unharmed- Jin is behind you. Sheszka is discarding a chunk of golem, having swapped to hammering at the thing with a chunk of its own body.

I could see that. It's just the kind of high int, low wis thing a Wizard might do.

>Spend years collecting lore and studying the deepest arts.
>Decide valuable research must be protected.

>Dammit. Getting in and out is a pain.

>Oh, I know, I'll set up a Master Switch that turns them all On and Off at both ends of the dungeon. That'll save loads of time!
>>
>>35569217
I dunno, my high INT and low WIS wizards build the switch in a room of identical switches that all kill the puller. And the room is also covered in lava. Mostly for appearances sake.

They also universally die in tragic switch mishaps.
>>
>>35569327
>Building a room full of switches that make noises in the room and move things around. All it is a distraction system that alerts the dungeon that theres adventurers. Time how long each group takes before giving up.

You grin through the golem dust coating everything.

"Well done, yes!"
Sheszka and Sara smile, while Aria throws a frown at the trap.
"It's already spent, yes? I can feel the magic trickling back in."
She shakes her head.

"It's good you knew it was there. That was- That would be bad."
"Mhm."

You turn back to the wall, eyes scanning the stil flowing runes.
"There is still the room, here. There should be some way to open it..."

Sara steps up beside you, running delicate hands over the smooth surface, tracing the patterns the wall makes. Sheszka creeps near the bottom of the wall, down on all fours and sniffing, following things only she can smell.

Aria crosses her arms, waiting, and you focus your senses best you can. Your eyes follow each curve of power, every vein of magic flowing through the walls, and-
"There."

You twist, facing your feathered friend.
"Wha?"
"Middle, left. The marks are different."
She gestures with a talon, and your fingers find the glowing mark on the wall, and push.

The wall simply dissolves, stone flowing like water, leaving you standing before... You're not quite sure.

A pair of crystals pulse in time with the runes, each the size of your chest. The magic crawls over them, into them, and back out, flowing through the complex, a steady stream.

Sara stares alongside you, transfixed- her journal already in hand.

also, if she was a bird, then you should know that birds don't pee, at all.
birds excrete their waste uric acid as a solid into their intestines which is later disposed of with the feces.
this process is far more efficient than a mammals, which is why they cannot get gout.

You stare intently at the crystals, the sensation of magic filling the air around you.
"What do you think they do, Sara?"
Your sister purses her lips, clicking her tongue at the display before her.

"I am not the one who can see magic, yes? Tell me what it is doing, please."
She readies her journal, an odd little pen in hand.

You focus in on the rune coated gems, the flow of magic. You can feel its pull all around you. You start to speak, describing everything as it occurs-
One crystal draws in magic, condensing it, refining it. The second crystal takes this and... does everything. The lines of mana spread through the runes, coating the entire dungeon in a layer of power.

Every light, every trap, every wall.
You're not even sure the place could stand without the flow of power.
Sara waits for your descriptions to pause before she comments herself.

"Hmmm- No, It should be fine, yes. The runes on the door were different- I think the walls themselves are stable. But... Hm. No, no. Leave the crystals, yes? No knowing what taking them would do."

You nod assent, and Sara spends a few moments copying runes down, ducking around each gem as she replicates their patterns.
You step back into the hall proper, and look forward.
Time to go.

>>
The trap isn't an issue.
At all.
Apparently the assumption was that you'd either die from the horrific level of damage the trap would deal- or the pair of golems would clean up after. At the rate the magic is filling the trap, and how much was in it when you pulled the trigger... maybe a month. Or a week. If it can fire off before it's full... Probably a few days before it got dangerous, punching holes in feet or something.

You ignore it, and your party follows suit, though not without a little apprehension. You take the left passage- Theres a simple wooden door at the end of the hall. No magic, no traps. You test it with one hand.

Not even barred. Huh.

It swings open into a lavish looking library- You can hear Sara's delighted gasp before she pushes past you, nearly running to the closest bookshelf. The room has a pair of shelves, each on one side- the floor is thickly carpeted, with a pedestal and a seat dead centre. A study, maybe?

The wall ahead, hilariously, is a massive mural of what you can only imagine was the owner- The centre is an overdone portrait, a man in robes, hair billowing in the wind. The edges are a serious of conquests, you think. Each a single scene of victory- The man standing atop a ruined tower, lording over a village, monsters bowing, a dead dragon. They go on and on.

You can hear Aria starting to giggle behind you, before Sheszka speaks up.
"He looks stupid."
That's all it takes.

Aria breaks down, cackling, while you and Jin giggle between the two of you. You give your wolf a pat, as she smiles.
>>
>>35571756
Sara on the other hand, is getting very frustrated.

She snarls, emptying a shelf to the floor, stomping around.
"Sara- What-"
She points a finger accusingly at the mural, shaking with rage.

"It's- They- They're all STUPID. All of them! Every one! Book after book- Just talking about himself!"
Aria's laughter amps up a notch.
"He may as well filled his shelves with mirrors! Agh!"

She storms around the room, flinging books in every direction till each shelf is empty, and she stands, hair askew amidst a mountain of autobiographies.

"Next room, then?"
"You cannot imagine how badly I am wishing for fire magic. Right now."
"No burning things till we leave, yes."
"Hmph."
