>Official Team & "Infinite Match" Bracket Listing:

http://pastebin.com/RhBW6Jng

>Introduction & Summary:

You are Katja Hartkern, a not-quite-30 Year old woman who's primed to take this year's "King of Fighter's" tournament (Officially dubbed "The dawn of The Infinite Match 20XX") by storm alongside her best friends Yuri Sakazaki & King. In fact, you were still reflecting on your improbable string of victories against "The Soul of The Streets Team" from two days prior early in the morning, but put any plans for a "Cakewalk" on the way to victory flew out the window when you were informed that "The Oyaji Team" would be your team's opponents in the next round: The leader of The Ikari Warriors, Commander Heidern; The current patriarch of the Kusanagi bloodline and master of the sacred flames, Saisyu Kusanagi... And the enigmatic "Mr. Karate" (AKA Takuma Sakazaki), the greatest practitioner of Kyokugenryuu Karate on the planet and the man who expelled you from the Kyokugen Karate dojo you had learned oh-so-much from.

Before you could start thinking about finally getting a chance to get some kind of revenge against him or prove a point about yourself as a martial artist, a hectic rush to pack up and leave your current location of San Francisco, CA behind and hop on a plane headed to Tokyo, Japan took up your day...

>Out-of-Kaja-Summary:

The players then got to experience a small slice of life through the eyes of Jean-Claude Gabriel, CEO of "The Paragon Group" and the official host of "The Infinite Match" as he caught up on the happenings of the tournament (Mainly how two fighters had nearly achieved something only an Atom-Smasher could've come close to achieving during a match) aboard an impossibly lavish motorhome in Detroit, MI...
>>
>>35563637

Unfortunately, plans to discuss the future of your latest business project with your ex-bodyguard (That you could hear outside of your window, as your "Palace on Wheels" was in fact on the small state park of Belle Isle in the middle of Lake Michigan) were cruelly interrupted after flying off the handle after getting word of Katja's "Victory by Breakdancing" that had become a bit of a joke in the local press and sports pages, even among the 24-Hour Pay-Per-View channel that was covering the KoF Tournament... Though you DID calm down and send a SCATHING phone call to your secretary back in Southtown over why you hadn't had a chance to learn about this sooner...

>>
>>35564981

>Updates FINALLY begin

>You're still in direct control of Jean-Claude Gabriel

>Date: Thursday, June 3rd

>Time of Day: 2:21 PM

You take a few moments to calm yourself down further, your notably high-blood pressure always something to be concerned about as you hear another knock on the door of your immaculate "Palace on Wheels".

You let out a sigh and ask "Who is it", still sounding like you're ready to rip someone's head off over "#BreakDanceGate" (As FightCenter put it).

"You done venting in there Jean? I need to change and take a shower" you hear Andrew Draco ask.

Another sigh. "Great... Last thing I need to do is deal with this moocher naked around me" you think while saying "Yeah, come on in."

You can almost hear Draco thinking "Wait a minute, really?" in the pause he took before letting himself in and, honestly, you wonder yourself. He's been awfully rather moody since his team's Draw in Brazil, though that may have to do with the day of recovery and the red-eye flight he had taken to get out here... Or it could be that his "Hobby" is just that physical, though you hold your tongue when you see him start to peel off that funky-looking Purple driving suit.

"So, how was it out there?" you lamely ask, trying to make conversation and keep what he might be mad about out of the picture.

"Bumpy as all fucking hell" he replies, adding "I've raced in the streets of Azerbaijan and that course was smoother than this."

"It's an oil-rich country looking for something to promote itself with and it was in Baku, right? So of course they would have proper streets to drive on" you reply, thinking to last year when your dummy corporation bought into a state-owned Oil Refinery and you had to be there in-person to make the deal legally binding.

Draco gives a shrug you kind of see, but doesn't say anything before hopping into the shower and you flip the TV back on, catching footage of an overweight woman grappling with a rail-thin kickboxer.
>>
>>35565861

Christ, that's fucking ugly.
>>
>>35566028

Yeah...

>>35565861

You can't tell if you're supposed to be repulsed or turned on by this chick filling up the screen, but you can't deny that she's got a hell of a cardiovascular system if she's doing standing moonsaults and other high-flying acrobatics (Not to mention dodging the Kickboxer's seemingly drunken antics) without getting too tired...

But you take a sip of your soda and start to say "You know... I Just don't get modern society anymore."

"What took you so long?" he answers.

You smirk at that, then say "I don't know... I spend all of this time, and money, and effort into trying to right Southtown around and help build this tournament into something and it just" you elaborate, but Draco cuts you off.

"You know your companies commit awful atrocities every day, right? And that in the eyes of most of the press, you're the devil incarnate trying to legitimize a form of fighting the public at large have dismissed as an illegal bloodsport a long time ago..."

And THAT is why you keep this guy around; He keeps you honest. Plus, he knows more than most about how your company works than all but the IRS...

"Fair enough" you say, no real challenge to that as he stands in your bedroom's doorway, clad in one of your (Well, his really; He uses this damn thing more than you nowadays) extra-large bathrobes.

"Honestly?" He says, his question hanging in the air after taking a long pause. "Fuck'em. You can't change who you are as a person... But you can change how people see you, and you can start by being up-front and direct about the bad press you're going to get."

"You read the article that leaked too, huh?"

"Yeah, Kazahaya forwarded it to me" he says. "And it's fucking bullshit that copy like that can get out of the door before the fight even happens."

"Or that, you know, it's from a Southtown newspaper, of all things" you add, wondering where the hell Southtown's gone if the citizens are questioning it's biggest money-maker.
>>
>>35566257

"Yeah..." he says, then seemingly uses that to latch on to what's on his mind. "Why did you fix my fight in Brazil?"

It's been pointed out a couple times before how some of the OCs seem to outstrip Katja herself. They're not necessarily bad, especially as more details are slowly being rolled out.

Weasel hasn't revealed it yet, but I'm guessing that it'll be an anti-KOF article written to the tune of all of those "The NFL is Evil" articles that have been popular lately... Or an SJW hatchet job.

>>35567088

Yeah... I fully agree that a few of them work through the details that have come out about them, but it's taking too damn long for them to all come out in the open. On the other hand, Weasel probably left clues out in plain sight over what was going on and what this quest's endgame might be, so you never know...

You take a long, hard look at Andrew and wonder how he might've found out, with Kazunori Kazahaya telling him the truth on the flight back to the United States being the only real option. Still, you don't try to deny or admit that you did or knew of any wrong-doing and ask "That's a pretty bold accusation... Do you have any proof beside click-bait articles paid for by my detractors and rivals?"

Draco pauses at that, then admits "No, I don't... It just was a feeling I had."

You sit up in the middle of the bed as the fight on TV ends with the chubby wrestling gall flipping over the kickboxer and piledriving him into the ground in one fluid motion, then turn to him and state: "You know, at the end of the day you're still working for me; You're an ambassador for all of the companies that are involved in this little club series of races you want to conquer as well as the tournament I've slaved over to build... And you know, it wouldn't look good for myself if your team lost in the first round to a couple of has-beens and a never-will-be, would it?"

Draco sighs, shakes his head and then turns on his heels and walks away. "Where are you going?" you ask while following him out to the main living-room-like part of your motorcoach.

"It's been said" is all he offers while changing into his "Casual" team gear.

"WHAT has "Been Said?" you ask.

"Gabe, I dont want to talk about this anymore, alright?" he replies while slipping on his purple polo shirt, black slacks & shoes.

"Andrew, I didn't-" you start to lie, though Draco cuts you off.

"Then who did? Kazahaya? Someone else that you happen to know?" he says, then pauses and lets out a sigh. "Look, I KNOW I'm under the microscope everywhere I go, OK? So I can understand why you might've wanted some insurance for my fight or something..."

[1/?]
>>
>>35568961

"... But goddamn it, I want to beat their asses fair and square! I want to feel like I don't have to have your invisible hand of fate come in and just give wins to me and my team" Draco concludes as an awkward silence fills the air.

For some odd reason, a part of your mind ponders "You know, if this were an average work of fanfiction, this would be the part where one of us kisses the other and we'd start to hate-fuck", though that truly bizarre thought disappears almost as quickly as it popped up as the tension in the room becomes evident to you.

Your silence seems to deafening to Draco's ears as he seemingly gives up on the idea of having a conversation with you, admitting "You know what? Fuck it. You want to be a hypocrite and run the tournament any way you want, go ahead. Just leave me out of it" before heading for the door.

"If you didn't lose your damn edge at fighting to waste my money on this shit, maybe I didn't need to have to hedge my bets" you think for a brief moment, but then tell him "If Kazahaya really did pay off the referees, he did it of his own volition."

Draco stops dead in his tracks at that lie, and seemingly takes it hook, line and sinker. "Is that right...?" he asks, his voice sounding deadly serious as he turns to face you.

"Absolutely" you continue to fib, explaining "I've been busy getting a handle on my shipping business to really get a grasp of what's going on with the tournament; I only heard about it all this morning."

He still gives you that thousand-yard "Sniper's Stare", but relents and says a quick "Fine" before walking out the door. It almost feels like you can breath a little easier as you turn on the main TV to catch the end of the "New Gorgeous Team Vs. True Garou Densetsu Team" fight, a muscled redhead woman in a too-small outfit sizing up a mountain of a man in a Blue Wrestling outfit adorned with Yellow lightning bolts (Complete with a matching mask) while calling up on Kazunori K. on your cellphone...

Seriously, fuck this internet connection today...

>You now assume control of Katja Hartkern

Time and dates are irrelevant in the world of dreams

You can feel your whole body shaking like the daylights had been scared right out of you, visions of whatever the hell you had last remembered flying through your mind as you sit up on a concrete block, adrenaline flowing through your veins. "That was a hell of a run out there" you hear a voice sounding oddly like Takuma Sakazaki tell you.

You nod a little and look up to see that yes, it's Takuma alright, though his usual Karate Gi has been replaced with some kind of racing team gear (And not the one from the last one you dreamed of either)...

"It's just somethin' I gotta get used t'I guess" you say with a sigh, seeing what looks like Heavy D! in motorcycle leathers being carted off on a stretcher, obviously writhing in pain as Duck King & Lucky Glauber hover around him.

Not-Takuma takes a look over to him and scowls, saying "If you can't stomach seeing and being involved with something like that, don't go racing."

"Yeah, my Karate Teacher used t'say the same thing" you mindfully say, the whole feeling of knowing that your mind really is on another plane of existence coming back to you after two days of relative bliss... Which is when Not-Takuma says "Practice's starting back up... Might be a good time to get another run in while you can."

You nod at that, plug your ears up, flip your black "Head-Sock" back over your head back as you walk across the pit-lane (With motor-way markings still painted on) to the slick-looking motorcycle that Not-Yuri Sakazaki & Not-King are helping to work on, among others...

"She's good to go Katie" you hear "Not-Yuri" say and turn to see a grease-covered smile as you straddle the 'bike. Your heart warms up in tune with the motorcycle as you grip the handlebars, start it up and blip the throttle...

... Which immediately sends your mind flying through time and fucking space like 2001: A Space Odessey AGAIN, though this only only elicits a ho-hum kind of response from your mind before you find yourself sitting in a bar somewhere, leathers still on and most of the patrons quietly leaving...

"Did you really think you could hide forever, Mikazuchi?" you hear an off-tone, badly-accented woman ask, the voice of whoever that was sounding almost "Dubbed" in that cheesy 70's Kung-Fu Flick kind of way.

You try hard not to laugh when you imagine the lips of whoever just said that are probably still moving, then turn around to see a woman with pale skin and a familiar-looking Beijing opera mask covering her face making a stance that looks like some kind of hyper-exaggerated version of Mantis-Style Kung-Fu (The kind you usually only see in cheesy action flicks set in the time before industrialization).

"Well? How would you like to die tonight?" she asks, the hollow and wooden-sounding delivery of those words only highlighting how absurd she looks and sounds (As you can tell she's deadly serious about this), not to mention how silly this all feels to you.

You let out a short laugh while quickly getting off of your stool, throwing it at whoever this crazy chick is and running towards her with a sliding kick. Though she blocks the chair hitting her forearms, your sliding kick trips her up and sets your "Ground & Pund" game up as you wrestle with her onto the floor, punching her chest and trying to get a lock over her neck.

She seems slightly surprised at what you're doing, through all it takes is one opportune swipe with her hands to send an impressive amount of pain shooting up through your arm and give her time to get back up to her feet.

"Seriously, street brawling is what you've turned to? Patheti-" she says before you cold-clock her in the head with an elbow-knee-uppercut combination that sends her onto the floor.

You crack your knuckles and can see electricity spark from them, always a good sign and especially after that pain shot up your arm, though this gal seemingly rises like a phoenix and gets back down low in that stance of hers, the sound effects that the two of you making only highlighting the cheesy kung-fu flick atmosphere... Which is when she tries to advance with a stab from her outstretched hand, though you dodge it and counter with a kick to the legs that lands a judo-like throw (You can't remember the name of it, but it's something that "Sparrow School" Kyokugenryuu used to teach) and land a quick stomp onto the ground.

However, she rolls away from you and advances again with a short, stab-like jab that you block, though the pain is considerable enough that you nearly can't hop away from a backflip-kick she tried to land (Obviously thinking that you were going to counter-hit her)... This gives you an opening to slam home a series of punches that you had only seen Ryo & Takuma Sakazaki pull off, 13 hits of pure aggression channeled through your fists and each hit sounding like a shotgun shell exploding at point-blank range before the last uppercut connects.

"That all y'got mate?" you ask with a snort as you see her struggle to get up off the floor after that... Which is when you feel the arm that you had blocked start to feel a little numb.

"Sonnofafriggin'bitch" you mumble while you dodge past a flying kick that she had obviously been holding back and roll to a nearby table, a few bottles of half-full beer and a full bottle of some kind of liquid you don't recognize to your right. Though you have the upper hand right now, you better get this shit over with sooner rather than later, because you're not going to last long...

>A. Grab the bottle of Cactus Juice to your right and wait for the chance to smash it over her forehead, setting up your opportunity to land a Ryuuko Ranbuu to put this bitch out of commission before your arms go fully numb (Roll 3d100 for Luck, Speed & Attack Damage)

>B. Keep your guard up and try to deflect whatever blows this mysterious woman tries to land rather than outright blocking them and see if you can break/take off her mask... (Roll 3d100 for Luck, Defense & Counter-Attack Damage)

>C. Throw whatever the hell you can at her to try and slow her assault down while simultaneously charging up your Ki to throw out a Ha'oh Raijinken while you still can (Roll 3d100 for Luck & Attack Damage)

>D. Rush towards her and try to get her in a hold or something, focusing on the left shoulder attachment to try and cut off her Ki flow and possibly stop her crazy pressure-point-based attacks for a short while...? (Roll 4d100 for Speed, Evasion, Attack Damage & Luck)

You take a quick glance at the full bottle of whatever-the-hell it is out of the corner of your eye and start throwing shit at this chick, noticing that she's slowly advancing towards you while slicing these half-full bottles in half with her bare hands...

"Bloody fuck, she's good" you think while using your lightning-fast speed to grab the unopened bottle and run towards her, deftly dodging her advancing strike to club her over her head with a bottle of... Cactus Juice? Fuck it, it'll do fine as you end up stunning her just long enough to land a short-but-sweet Ryuuko Ranbuu (Notably prefaced by the classic "Kyokugenryuu!" taunt, even if you don't hear yourself say it) that comically knocks her up into the second floor of this surprisingly spacious club.

You hold your uppercut-arm and try to keep the nerve endings active by giving yourself slight electrical shocks while eyeing the woman up in the "Reserved" booth, hearing her mutter "Fuck this night. Seriously" with a more "Normal"-sounding voice. Just knowing that she's probably not going to bother you is great by itself helps ease the pain, though thoughts of finishing her off for good or pumping her for information are put halted by an odd, almost cat-like squeak of a voice asking "The fuck did you do with my juice bitch!?"

>A. GTFO of there ASAP (Roll 1d100 for Speed)

>B. Slowly turn and see if you can try and calm whoever the hell this is (Roll 1d100 for Persuasion)

>C. Tell her(/him?) "Sorry mate, I had t'borrow it... But c'mon, I'll get ya'another one." (Roll 1d100 for Luck that She(/he?) agrees)

>D. End the dream and wake up as just before your flight touches down at Narita International Airport.

You turn around slowly, guard still up as best as you can considering your arm's starting to go numb again and see that it's the brown-skinned beauty from before, from when the two of you had watched a city get blasted into smithereens from a giant pillar of light. You try not stare at her (As she really is wearing a tad too little, or more like "Not enough to cover what she has" now that you ponder it a little more) and shrug, saying "Sorry mate, I had t'borrow it... But c'mon, I'll get ya'another one."

She looks at you for a second, then gives out a smile that a friend coined "The Genkii-Girl Look" and follows you up to the bar, where a guy that looked like Shen Woo was hiding. You can't help but chuckle at the sight before asking him "Y'got anymore Cactus Juice?"

"And some Tequila too" the other girl adds as she gets a little too close for comfort, the smell of alcohol on her breath.

Not-Shen Woo shakily hands the two of you a bottle of each before saying "Just please DON'T FUCKING KILL ME!!!"

The two of you smile at this, then turn and walk out hugging each other into the now-standard bright, white light... Which is when you wake up in your chair in First Class, King sleeping to your right and Yuri snoring to your left with all three of your carry-ons in the empty seat that the stewardess confirmed wouldn't be used at any point on the flight). You let out a dreary sigh at how your mind seems to be consciously holding your libido back from at least FANTASIZING about kissing someone (Boy or Girl) and take a look out the window, inky darkness only broken up by a few bright stars up in the sky.

You stretch your neck out and slowly start to get up out of your seat, then quietly tip-toe your way to the bathroom and ponder what time it is as you try to stay half-awake, pondering if you should get your Lap-Top and headphones out to watch a movie or two...

You stretch your neck out and slowly start to get up out of your seat, quietly tip-toeing your way to the bathroom and ponder what time it is as you try to stay half-awake, then wonder if you should get your Lap-Top and headphones out to watch a movie or two...

>B. Yawn, finish your business and try to head back to sleep, maybe even heading back to "DreamTime" if your mind is willing...

Feeling a little more awake after relieving yourself, you headed out of the bathroom and calmly grabbed your carry-on, fishing out your trusty old lap-top to see if you could access the built-in Wi-Fi network this plane should have, as you hadn't been able to when you tried to log online before take-off from San Francisco god-knows how many hours ago.

Amazingly, it worked, though you immediately disconnected when you felt a small amount of turbulence in the plane. Seeing a stewardess somehow still up at this hour, you quietly ask her "Miss? Can I hop online without disrupting the flight?" in a scratchy Japanese dialect.

"Yes" she answers, looking almost like you had slapped her by answering in her native tongue.

You shrug at that, then plug in your earphones and re-connect to the plane's Wi-Fi with ease, though actually trying to load a page was another matter entirely; It felt like it took forever to finally see the homepage for "FightCenter" (As the website you first bookedmarked was now calling itself) and were greeted by the photo of a cute girl in a too-tight blue Tank-Top looking peeved at a guy dressed like some kind of Ninja, as the headline "Jhun's Team heroics not enough to top a The Legacy Team" pops up under her photo.

You wonder if that fan of yours back in Southtown might've known this "May Lee" chick in Blue, White & Red, because they might well have been cut from the same tomboyish cloth to you... "Wonder what she's up to" you ponder as the next page loads and a link to an article about the "New Gorgeous Team Vs. True Garou Densetsu Team" and immediately get sent to a short highlights video showcasing how your sorta-girly friends had managed to squeak by with a controversial Judges Decision after Fiona Graves had fought Raiden for a full 60 seconds on the clock (An eternity in KOF terms, it seems).

"Good fer'them" you think while unconsciously analyzing over just how small all three of their outfits really were...

Yep, that's it. I should know, since the real-life influence for that character is a good friend of mine...

>>35578588

... Which lead to quite a few articles from "Outside Sources" talking about how local groups of feminists in Southtown were attempting to picket the tournament on the grounds of "Promoting violence against Women", which in turn lead to a rebuttal on behalf the arch-bastard himself, Jean-Claude Gabriel. However, your laptop seemed unable to load the page and after a few minutes of trying just about everything your brain could think of (Not much aside from doing a few basic connection diagnostics already installed), so you focused on a few other fight results that were up, including watching a downright insane clip of Shen Woo trading the mother of all Haymakers with some guy landing what looked to be the greatest Hien Shippu Kyaku knock-off you've ever seen and the screen breaking from the force of it.

"Excuse me, we'll be landing soon" you hear that stewardess from earlier say to you, adding "So please, turn off all electronic devices until we land" in plain old English.

You nod and don't say anything, pausing the video and putting your clap-top on "Sleep" before packing it up and slowly waking King up.

"Hrmmm...?" came the groggy reply as you could feel the plane embark on it's final descent, the bright lights of Narita and the adjacent city of Shibayama off into the distance from your window.

"We're makin' a landin' in Japan, mate" you whisper as you can hear Yuri start to naturally wake up from her kinda-cute snoring.

"We're here already?" King asks.

You nod as you start to ready yourself for the long, maybe-tricky journey into Tokyo and the hazards of having to remember how to speak "Real" Japanese again (Rather than the "Rosetta Stone" dialect that most Japanese people mock with quiet disdain), not to mention finding the hotel...
