Part 15

You are Hugo of Koblenz, and you have won glory this day.

You distinguished yourself in action against Seljuq raiders on the high road north of Jerusalem. You were instrumental in rescuing captured pilgrims, and fought and won a duel against a fellow Christian on a point of honour. In the process you impressed many of your companions of the day, King Fulk and his son Prince Elias in particular.

Now you have impressed them enough that you are to join them for a feast on the morrow. To sit at the king's table and share his meat and wine. It is a high honour.

Never mind the fact the king has your beloved brother locked in his dungeon, and had planned to lock you away as well only some weeks previously.

This is not an opportunity to be missed. But it begs the question, will you take a companion to this dinner, or go alone?

You think about everyone you have known and met during your time in Jerusalem. And you are troubled by the idea of any of them being in the company of the king or royal court. Not just your friends, who may do something foolish, or those wanted for one crime or another. The others, too distant for you to be comfortable asking for their company.

Etain and Maggie both were little more than strangers, and novices besides. You briefly entertained the idea of asking a princess, or the Lady Helena for her company, but that made you blush with embarrassment just thinking about it.

The only woman you really wanted to ask was forbidden entry to Jerusalem.

You decide then, that you will go alone.

Many of your friends are not happy with the idea. "Speak very carefully," Adelheid said as she picked at your clothes. They were your best, which meant they were not great. "Do not speak on subjects that could incriminate your brother."

"Keep a weather eye out," Solomon added, "This all may be a trap."

If you need help, you think, you can always flee into the safety of the Queen.

They go with you to the palace gates, for all the world looking like a pair of concerned parents sending a boy off for schooling. You wave them off as you are admitted into the palace.

The soldiers grin to see you. They had heard the story by now. "Kill a couple Saracens on your way over?" one asked with a raised thumb.

You head in.

>>
There is music and life in the courtyard. Men and women in their best, drinking and eating as they listened to local music. It was not like the halls back home. A pair of little dark men played unfamiliar drums and stringed instruments. Your brother would know what they were called, but to you they were just pleasant noise makers.

You knew some in the crowd. The Templars Joyce and Blaise, and the Lazarus knight Wolfgang. You spied Orlando in conversation with a reed thin fellow, and a few other companions from your ride. Many smiled and toasted you as they passed.

The king stood with his son Elias, speaking with a hawk faced man of rough but regal bearing. He walked with the assistance of a cane, his leg all wrapped in bandages. He wore a fussy little mustache, and had tanned leathery skin.

When Fulk sees you his eyes brighten. "Come lad, come meet an important man!" he said, hailing you over, "Meet a fellow king, Roger of Sicily!"

The two kings both smiled, and Roger attempted a small bow. "A wound from piracy," he explained, "Berber ships looking to harrass gentle Christian folk. Near the death of me."

"Aye, not piracy of your own?" Fulk asked with a chuckle, "You are forever harassing the Greeks."

Roger smiled but not pleasantly. "The Greeks are forever harassing me, with their exorbitant tariffs."

All conversation comes to a hush. Your eyes turn to see what had cut through the conversation. And your eyes alighted. The Royal Women.

Four sisters in their very best, with a little girl and little boy as well. The Queen at their head. All blond women in the colours, silver and gold, of the Holy Land. The Queen had her head held high and a her carriage proud, dark eyes sweeping across the yard. When they spied you they glittered. Hodierna had little Baldwin by the hand, and flashed you a smile. Alice held her daughter, and walked with a nervous energy. Judith, that is Iovetta, came up the last, eyes drawn inward, barely noticing the surrounding festivity. She seemed a golden stranger in these halls, and uncomfortable in regal dress after so long in a nun's habit.

Fulk sucked in a breath, chest swelling.

"My cousin is a beauty," Roger said with a nod, "You are a lucky man."

"Lucky and cursed in equal measure," Fulk grumbled, but his eyes were caught on the Queen, your presence expelled from his mind.

The music struck up again, and the conversation soon flowed once more.

>>
You have seen the king, and now you see the queen has taken up the opposite side of the courtyard. Elias has made his way over, wearing his best smile, trying to draw conversation forth from Ioveta. It earned a small glare from Hodierna, but provoked no major reaction from the queen herself.

As you walk over you see little Baldwin squirm in Hodierna's arms.

"Hugo!" he said, reaching out toward you.

"Hush," Hodierna chided the small boy. He settled down with a big glare for his aunt. She ruffled his hair, which just made him glare more sorely.

You bowed stiffly before the royal women. "Your highness," it was addressed at all of them, but mostly your attention was on Melisende.

She smiled. "And you are my husband's champion of the hour," she said as a servant brought forth a plate of dates. She picked one off and ate it. "We have been regaled by your exploits all afternoon. My sister was quite taken by your duel with the knight, and all our nerves were on edge when we heard of your lone assault on the Saracen camp," she flicked fingers towards Ioveta.

The girl was red in the face as Elias spoke with her, and you saw she fought a smile that was coming upon her. He spoke some jest and she burst into laughter. When her laughter subsided she was still red, and tugged at her braid shyly.

Many other men were roving as if to speak with her, jealous of the time Elias had in her company.

"Is a pleasure to meet you," Melisende said, "Young men like you are sorely what Jerusalem needs." And she gifted you with a soft kiss on the brow, before her attention was taken up by another guest, an old man in the Patriarch's robes.

You go and speak with Sir Wolfgang.

The man had his face half bandaged, and when he moved a bell around his wrist rang out. It was odd for a leper to be given access to the royal palace, but it would be hard to refuse a knight as bold as Sir Wolfgang who had done a service to the king. You had seen him fight, and he was a terror with the sword. When he saw you approach with food in hand he smiled and bowed.

"Thank you," he said, taking your offered drink, "Few are brave enough to approach me. They mistake much about the affliction. 'Tis not so contagious past a certain point, and that point is passed with me." Still you felt a shiver as his bell rang out with every lift of his wrist.

You had already spent some time among the lepers.

He lifted a toast to you. "For your valiant action," he said, and drank.

He walked away from the festivities so that he was by the far wall and beckoned you over.

"Do you see her?" he asked, pointing towards the royal party. You did not know which of the royal women he spoke of. Alice was sitting alone with her daughter, while Ioveta was still caught up in conversation with Prince Elias. He was showing her a few steps to a dance, very close and intimate. Hodierna still watched them with cat-like eyes. "She's more beautiful than I thought," and you saw something familiar about his smile through the bandages of his face, the pull at the corner of his eyes.

You manage to mask your surprise, you keep from saying anything at all, but he delights at the expression on your face.

"You'd be surprised how little effort it is," he said, plucking at the bandages on his face. His voice had changed altogether, from the vague German of Wolfgang, to the French-Levant tones of Raymond. Then he turned his attention away from the royal women, and fully on you. "But I did not come here simply to spy on my betrothed. A dangerous effort to go out a-killing just for a woman. No, I have other game in mind." He motions in the direction of Orlando, a hand on the long knife at his belt. "There are rats in these walls. And questions that need answering," he said.

When the Templars walked by his voice changed back to the German knight. "But it is good to care for the sick you see, a Christian duty, and it gives me hope though my body is ravaged." The knights that walked by nodded in respect to their fellow holy warrior before moving on.

And Raymond returned. "It was not Orlando that called ahead, I would have known it. Someone else gave away our secrets. I'd know who it was, if anyone knows," he said, his smile turning vicious, "Weeds need to be pruned before the trial is brought forward. Of course, we may speak with your brother too, see if he has learned anything about the traitors set against us."

He was not the jovial bold knight you'd kept company with. His voice was cold and expression hard. He seemed less a knight and more a murderer. Or perhaps a lord.

"If you could lead me to your brother, or find a way to get Orlando alone," he said, drawing an inch of steel with a knowing nod.

Your heart is still not convinced of the need to kill Orlando. You decide instead to show 'Sir Wolfgang' to your brother.

The run of the palace is yours, and all know it. No guard stops you or makes comment. When you find yourself back at your brother's cell you find it unguarded, the watchman no doubt drawn away by the festivities.

It was strange to think your brother was right there, for you to speak with freely. You had been separated for what felt like an age. Raymond waits patiently as you open the latch that showed the interior of the cell.

He was paler than you'd ever seen him, his hair long down to his shoulders. He wore a saggy black beard, and he had already lost some muscle. You saw scratchings on the wall, some message etched out.

"Who goes there?" he asked, his voice raw. He sounded older, and you recalled he had a birthday come and gone while in his cell.

"It's me," you said, barely brave enough to talk. Wilhelm's eyes alight. He comes to the bars and reaches through.

"Brother," he grabs you by the cheek with a grubby hand, "You've gone bald."

You grin at that, and pull at his own beard. "And you've got hair to lend. Maybe I can take some and finally look like father."

You both chuckled at that. For all your status as an acknowledge bastard, still Sir Wilhelm had spoken of doubts. 'Your whore mother could have bred you with a dozen different men,' he'd say in his cups, suspicion alive in his eyes. Your father, had never been much of one to you.

(cont.)
>>
Your reunion is not long, Raymond soon is interjecting. "We must speak," he said, and you allowed the lordling his due. He came to the bars and you could see your brother was not happy to be interrupted, but let him speak. "Do you know who may have sold us out?" he asked, "Alongside that rat Orlando?"

"Orlando doesn't have the balls to act alone," Wilhelm said, voice thick with contempt, "No. I know who sold us to the king, and it wasn't Orlando. My slave gleaned the information early, though I'd had no sense of it at the time. Lord Baldwin of Ramla is the traitor to fear."

Raymond drew in a hissing breath. "You think Count Hugh knows?" he asked.

Wilhelm shook his head. "I doubt it, though he does not love Lord Baldwin."

"You should have told me sooner," Raymond said, "We had a pact."

"I did not know if I could trust you," Wilhelm replied, "I suppose I still don't, though you keep company with my brother."

"Trust me with your gold or woman and you are a fool," Raymond said with a grin, "But you can trust me with your life, not least because my father's life is bound in common cause with you." Raymond reached a hand through the bars. "Trust me to deal with this matter." Wilhelm took it hesitantly.

"And now the matter of Orlando," Raymond said, "I would have him killed, and soon. One less voice against us." You felt a spike of mixed emotion shoot up your gut.

"You could," Wilhelm said, but there was a hint of doubt in his voice.

>>
It might not be your place to speak, a mere squire in the presence of knights, but you have to say what is building in your heart.

"We can't kill him," you say, "We shouldn't. It would be wrong. He rode with us, fought with us. Maybe...maybe he has been tricked into this. Or even if he hasn't, what good would it do to kill him? Sister Adelheid said it might just do the opposite, and get people suspicious of us. If he really has given up on our friendship entirely, he will kill himself. Like Judas in his betrayal. The guilt will be too much for him."

Neither spoke back immediately but Raymond looked down on you with hooded eyes full of disappointment.

"If..." Wilhelm said, "If Orlando stood alone as a witness and accuser, his voice would carry little weight. He is dishonoured already, stripped of his land. If he stands against us he stands as a schemer reaching for any excuse to claw back his lands. It will make a joke of any 'conspiracy' thrown against us."

"If Orlando stands alone," Raymond murmured. His eyes went from you to your brother, but soon enough he nodded. "Orlando will stand alone. See how good his accusation carries then!"

And then he slumped against the wall and coughed. "Peace be with you, poor soul," he said in German voice. As he left he clapped you on the shoulder. "We should be returning, the feast starts soon."

You grip your brothers hand before departing. He gives you a haunted, pale grin, rubbing your stubbly scalp as you go.

Together you walk with the German leper and his peeling bell. The feast hall has been arranged, and seats are being taken. Fulk becons you up, as does Elias. He sits with Ioveta, a knife in hand, slicing her a piece of roast. The Queen has taken up her own table, with Alice and Hodierna.

So out of curiosity, what are all you anons thinking our plans should be now? Honestly, Fulk doesn't seem like that bad of a guy, so I'm having second thoughts about the whole "forcing Ioveta's claim" bit.

Hugo plans? Trust the Queen, win some points, get that corpse embalmed and buried should the family come asking for it.

Wilhelm plans? Divert, divert, Queen. If forced, then recount about the Assassins, the defense of the kingdom, make an offer to join some order for a season as penance.
>>
You go and sit with King Fulk, but you make sure it is to the side closest to Elias. The king takes you 'round the shoulder and offers you his wine cup. You take it, drink a little.

"I'm surprised you came alone," he said, "I thought a handsome young man like yourself would have had a run of girls to choose from."

"I did not think it appropriate," you muttered into the wine cup. Still your attention was split. Elias whispered something into Ioveta's ear that made her giggle. But she noticed you, and gave you a subtle tug of her ear in acknowledgement. Was she really so taken by the prince? You could not know for sure, you did not know her well. Still, she had fooled you for weeks on end pretending to be something she was not.
(cont.)
>>
Fulk clapped you on the back. "Lad, when I was your age I'd do anything to impress a pretty girl. In Anjou it was enough to take a common girl out hawking to impress. A chance to feast at the king's table, even the most chaste of women would grow weak in the knees," he cut a slice of meat and passed it to you, "Courting a woman is like fighting a battle. Boldness is needed, be bold son!"

The word made you feel strange. Your own father had only called you 'son' once, as an acknowledgement of his parentage. When he had taken you into service it had been as a lowly page, and you spent little time in his presence except to clean up after him and your half-siblings. The girls in particular had needed fetching after, and Mathilde, who was only a year your junior, had held her true-birth above your head like a stick. You had only been treated as true family by your brother Wilhelm, and saved a life of castle bound servitude when he took you on as his squire.

To have the king serve you a slice of beef, with a ready grin and fatherly advice, to call you son and fill your wine cup. It was almost a painful, alien feeling that grew in your chest.

"Anjou is not like this land," he said, "It is wet, green and rich. Game in the forests all season 'round, Christian folk alone to contend with. But I must admit I have begun to love the Holy Land. The people here are more vigorous, focused, and the women defy words. The land is hard, and produces a hard people. Fighting men and bold women. Ha! Why the women here have more spine than some knighted men back home."

He poked you with a chicken bone. "Tell me some of your adventures," he said, "I'm sure you have some tales to tell!"

You think on your adventures. There was little to speak of before arriving in the Holy Land. Well, there was that thing in Cyprus with your brother and the three daughters of the inn keeper, but that might not be appropriate for the feminine company you were keeping. It still made you blush to think about.

Instead your mind turned to another tale. Your first adventure.

"I've had few years sir," you said, "So my adventures mightn't be so rich as you'd gather, but there was a tale that begins when first we arrived in Acre. My brother and I, as well as our old friend Franz, were in need of coin. We were but poor fellows, lost and without any bearings but a vague hope of success. We found an old, crippled knight with no lands or standing but a beautiful daughter."

"How beautiful?" Ioveta asked, leaning forward.

You thought on rich, red-haired Jehanne, her pale milk skin and large bright eyes. A maid of fifteen. "Very," you said, "And he was her one treasure. The knight paid us as good a sum as he could to escort her to Sidon, where she was to be wed. With her rode her cousin, a knight by name of Alain, her maid and some slaves..."
>>
You spoke of the rigours of the road, and the battle with the lion. When you came to Sir Alain's slaying some women put hands to mouth, gasping with horror as you described the damage done. "But my brother slew it with a single thrust," you mimed the killing, "Right through it's skull. And he wears the lion pelt to this day."

You spoke of your time up the road, how you pushed through a storm and lost the slaves, how you took shelter in a village, and how Jehanne and your brother danced, and how you had danced with the maid. You...did not elaborate, though you knew what your brother and she had done later that night.

When you came to your arrival in Sidon, and concluded your tale, you could see the king was pleased, and clapped.

"A loyal a squire as ever I've met," he said, "Your brother is lucky to have you."

I am lucky to have him, you thought. If it had not been for your brother you might still be scrubbing floors for your father, fetching script and ink and every other dogsbody task. King Fulk poured you more wine.

Still it was not near the end of the night. Music began to play and couples rose to dance. Elias took up Ioveta by hand, began to draw her to the dancing, but she seemed less keen for his attention now, and was similarly being petitioned for a dance by King Roger.

"Go grab a girl, lad!" Fulk said, nudging you from your chair, "Have a dance, and make merry."

You see Prince Elias has won out over King Roger and takes Ioveta through the start of the dance, and Roger has instead offered his hand to Hodierna. She graciously accepts, and goes light so as not to pressure Roger's injured knee. Queen Melisende remains seated with her son, but gives you a fond smile as you search for a companion.

A girl by the flowers, a brunette of shy nature, but dressed of high birth. She withdraws a step when you approach.

"My lady?" you offer her your hand, "I'm Hugo."

"Elaine," she replied, taking your hand, "I-I saw you with the king, and heard of you from my brother."

She'd heard of you? Now it's your turn to blush a little. She was a slim girl, of an age with you, and had grey eyes. You heard the French in her voice. She let you steer her out onto the floor, where other couples danced.

Ioveta was sighing against Prince Elias, while Hodierna giggled at Roger's crabwalk dance. Merriment was in the air.

You took Elaine by the hand. They were soft and slim, and she blushed at your touch. Your hands felt very big and rough in comparison. You saw she had a light trail of freckles over the bridge of her nose.

You weren't the best dancer in the world, but you had received some instruction from your brother, and you had a little warmth through your body from the drink and the delight from your story. And Elaine was a gracious partner, you did not trip on her feet, in fact you felt like you were gliding with her, smooth across the floor like a bird on the wing. She kept a close grip on you, your hand and hip, and as you broke to turn about, she came back in quickly, eyes wide and cat-smiling, a bright flush across her cheeks.

"You dance well," Elias remarked beside you, his own girl a-flustered in his courtly skill. Ioveta was rosy cheeked and happy, grinning widely.

"Thank you sir," you said, and Elaine was much impressed by your friendly nature with the prince. You spun her about, light in your arms and she laughed, her chestnut braid whipping about her neck.

When the dance ended and you looked ready to retire, Elaine pulled you over into the shadows where you had last stood with Sir Raymond.

"That was lovely," she said, "My heart is all fit to burst!" And she pressed your hand knowingly to her chest, biting her lip and leaning into your palm. She tipped her head up to you, blinking expectantly.

The king's words rang in your ear. 'Be bold son!'

You took her by the shoulder with one hand, by the hip with the other. Your mouth closed on hers, and you found her an eager partner. A flood of warmth ran through your chest, as her tongue and yours met wetly and mouths pressed together. It was wet, warm and clumsy, but god it was good. Your hand rolled up to the back of her neck, and your other slid from her hips 'round to her, well, she gave a little gasp of delight when you squeezed.

She sighed as you pushed her against the colonnade, and when your lips parted she smiled widely. You swallowed and leaned over her, beet red in the face and pressing against her. You felt very drunk, but in a very good way, with your mind both fuzzy yet focused all at once.

Focused on Elaine's rising chest.

"Would you take my favour sir?" she asked, "I keep it in my chambers." She ran a hand across your shoulder, face very red and breath very quick. "You would have to accompany me, it is quite dark."

Young fledgeling Bard, I dub thee Sir Hugo the Handsome.

May your songs be as crotch moistening as your mentor and brother's
>>
"I-I'd be a sorry knight if I let a lady walk alone, specially one looking so poorly," you said, "Not that I'm a knight yet, n-nor that you look so awful." you offered her your arm.

"You'll be a knight yet," she said, leaning into your arm, running a finger across it. It was night, and what you saw of the sky showed a brilliant array of stars. The palace was dark however, and she led you by arm through the corridors of the palace, to the quarters and a door, half tripping at some points for you to catch her with a shared giggle.

She came to the door leaned against it, looking over her shoulder at you. "This is my chamber." And she opened it, slipping in.

You followed with a nervous energy.

Elaine had drawn off her gown and shift, and knelt half on her bed. She looked at you nervously and you felt a nervous clutch at your guts.

"I-I have never given a favour before," she said, drawing up onto the bed.

"I've never received one," you had, from the queen, but you were being metaphorical as she was. It was a new skill you'd yet to really test out.

She waited for you to undress, waited nervously on the bed with a slice of moonlight falling across her. You pulled yourself free of your clothing and moved to the bed. She really was a pretty squirrel of a girl. You touched her hair shyly, felt it smooth across your knuckles. She took you by the shoulders and kissed you. It was like that for a while, the two of you upon her bed, just kissing and touching one another. You both started as nervous creatures, but as you sank into the rhythm, your boldness grew. Your grips grew firmer, your kiss smooth and deep.

(cont.)
>>
She parted her legs for your touch, and sighed 'gainst it.

"W-would you-" she spoken in nervous breaths. You climbed upon her, blushing as you looked over her.

Like a spear to its target, you thought. That's all this is. Everyone does it. You'd heard your brother and his women, Solomon and his. You had seen women naked before. You had lusted, and thought long and hard on all you'd do in the grips of your nightly musings. All the secret, perverted thoughts of a boy with energy but no opportunity.

And now you were poised before the very target of a pretty girl, and felt your courage shake as it never had before. "Sir," she said, striking your cheek.

You moved, she cried, the tightness was uncomfortable at first but you felt a rush and felt her shudder as something gave way beneath you. Blood.

"W-what?" you look to her, fearing you'd made some terrible misjudgement. She had pain in her eyes, but was smiling.

"This is natural," she murmured, kissing you, "My sister told me so." But much of her mature fire was gone and she seemed a nervous girl again, as you felt a nervous boy. You fought a blush, but could not go out now. In truth you did not want to. You buried yourself deep, held her as she cried out. She tried to quiet her cries in a pillow, but it was little help.

It was not a night of long passion, though it felt a clumsy eternity. You finished suddenly, and slumped, lying beside her sweating slim body.

It as not as you had thought it would be, but it had not been bad. As you watched the rise and fall of her small chest you felt good, satisfied, and she kissed you on the chin as some small gesture. It was more messy than you had ever expected. The blood and your...spillage.

"Was that good?" you asked, your voice nervous and young.

Elaine trembled. "I-I think so," she rolled away and pressed against you, your arms 'round her as she nestled against your lap and belly.

You lay with the strange pretty girl, and slept.

Hugo is all about WAR, and this is the sort of situation where only someone with a silver tongue like Wilhelm could weasel themselves out of with little difficulty. I don't approve of averaging in most cases, but if the reason I'm defending happens to be why it was used, I could understand it.

If that isn't the case, though, I'll gladly agree with you.

You rose late. Elaine nestled against your arm, which had died beneath her. It hurt to flex your fingers, pins and needles running down it as you tried to slip it out. As you did she awoke with a murmur, and blushed at the sight of you. You did not speak, but looked at each other for time, until finally you kissed again.

She gasped, giggled and grasped at you, til now she was on top and kissing you, with you in her hands and a laugh on your face. She did not take you in again, though she came perilous close. You were intervened first, by a hammering on the door.

"Elaine!" a man's voice, "Elaine!"

Her face turned pale. "My brother," she said, "hide, hide!" She pushed you with clothes in hand into her wardrobe, pulling on her shift with a wiggle. "Coming!" she called, and opened the door.

You spied him through a crack. The Templar, Joyce, and with him Sir Blaise. "Sister," Joyce said, "Is something amiss?"

Sir Blaise sniffed the air and eyed the girl suspiciously.

"Nothing brother," she said, smoothing his red crossed tabard, a big wide smile for him, "I just had the most enchanting evening, and was loathe to rise."

"Aye, catting around with that German boy," Blaise said, "I saw your little kiss, though I've only one eye to spy with."

"You watch your tone with my sister," Joyce warned as he drew his sister out the door.

You heard it close and slipped out, pulling on your clothes. And with dread you note your sword had been left out. Had Blaise spied that too, and made note of it?

You slip away with a numb feeling in your chest, and as you slip through the corridor bump into Prince Elias.

"Ah, Hugo," he said, waggling a finger, "Eventful night? I heard you and I may have some boasts to share over breakfast. Talk has it you slipped away with Little Elaine in the late hour."

You felt a flash of panic. Was it known? You felt the shadow a blade pass the back of your neck. Surely Sir Joyce would hear, and only bad things would come of it...

"Join me for breakfast?" he asked, "I'd like a boon companion to share my own triumph with." He chuckled, holding forth a pair of fingers. What triumph was this that he was so proud of? He looked like a dog given the prize cut, if he had a tail it would be wagging.

You couldn't refuse the prince. And when you sit with him he is quick to draw you into his confidence.

"The peaches are sweet in the royal garden, no?" he asked, taking a bite of his own peach. He grinned through the juice and flesh of the peach. What did he mean by that. "I've always had a talent for women, it's no boast," he said, "Maine is littered with girls of mine."

Would he get to the point?

"I thought, for a man of my talents, while I was hear, why not put in the effort?" he set aside his finished peach and started on some dates. "There are beautiful women so lacking for good husbands." He held up his fingers again. Counted off, one, two, three, four. "It was surprisingly easy."

You feel your gut clench. "I had Alice pretty much my first night here, lusty woman," he laughed, "And that Hodierna. I heard she'd be some chaste old maid, but she has a wicked streak." He lowered two fingers. "That leaves the hardest ones. Aye, the little nun and the lovely Queen herself." He looked mean, he looked evil, he looked like hate itself as he glared at you. "I'm afraid I'll have to disappoint your brother," he said, closing the third finger, "Oh she bled, but not for long, and she moaned like a whore. I must thank him for convincing her to give up the cloth. She's so eager for the cock, it's no surprise she'd fall for the first man that smiled at her." He smiled, closed his eyes as if he were reliving the memory. "And next up is the prize. My father will be wearing cuckold's horns before the month is out."

Hot hate filled your stomach.

"Run on little squire," he said, "Go tell your Sir he has lost his prize. And tell him not to play games in royal households again, bastard-born."

But something about the way he spoke, were his words true? You could believe it, yet not as well. Would Ioveta be seduced so easily?

HF, just got to say, this is probably the best quest on /tg/ right now.

Your writing is excellent! You've managed to convey the unease a young man growing up in a harsh (yet enticing) world must feel. How you treating Hugo and that young lass having sex for the first time was real, and man, do I hate Elias right now.

Personally I think you write Hugo better than Wilhelm, but maybe that's because we've taken a less ridiculous route with him.

Anyway, that's just my 2c, keep up the good work!

You don't believe him. You an't believe him. You keep eating your breakfast, trying not to laugh or throw some insult in his face. His glare turned into a smirk, and he did not budge from his seat, his posture very confident. He moped up all his food as well, and rose from his chair.

"I think I might go look for some distraction," he said, "Maybe find young Lady Elaine and give her some instruction on dancing. She had an inexperienced partner last night and could do with a more seasoned hand." You did not rise to his last insult, but watched him strut away.

You had not thought him a bad sort before, when he had helped you against Sir Matthew, but it seemed he was a vain, nasty creature at heart. Not worth the dust off your boots.

When he was gone you rose, a little unsteady on your feet. If his words were true or false it didn't matter, the prince was now set against you, and your brother.

Though you think Elias is a liar, still his words plague your mind. Your feet are soon following a path to royal chambers, and you find Princess Hodierna sitting in the palace garden. She hasn't the little prince with her today, but she sits with a young woman, smiling at the sun.

When she spies you she sends the young woman away with a gentle hand.

"Hugo, so good to see you," she said, brushing off your shoulder, "I heard a rumour that a maidenhead had been stolen last night. You sly young dog." She gave you a wink, rubbed your head. What was the appeal? you wondered, having had your head rubbed more often than not after shaving it down.

"I-I heard a rumour too," you said, "About you, and about your sisters." It was hard to speak on it, your throat clenched up and face grew red with embarrassment. Hodierna sat again with a still expression, waiting for you to speak. "Prince Elias claimed..." you near choked on the words, "That he had...royal women."

Hodierna turns very pale, hands twisting in her lap. "And what did he say?" she asked, voice very soft.

"That he had Princess Alice," you said, "A-and you." Red flushed her cheeks as her chest picked up. "That he had Ioveta just last night, and soon would have the Queen."

"The Queen hates Elias," Hodierna said.

But that was not an answer.

"Is it true?" you asked.

Hodierna placed a hand to the front of her chest and swallowed. "The best lies are a mix of fact and fiction," she said, "And the fact in the fiction adds extra venom to the lie."

That still wasn't an answer.

"Is it true?" you demanded.

Hodierna took a breath. "Yes. In part at least. Yes, he bedded me. And it was....good.It was....I will not lie on that matter," she touched herself a moment, but then looked at you, in the eyes, "But of Ioveta I cannot say except to speak of her character. I do not think she is likely to have been bedded by Elias, willingly at least. I had my eye upon her 'til the dancing started, and it's true I lost track of her for most the night after, before we took to bed. But I do not think she is the type." Then she chewed her lip and looked away. "But I did not think she was the sort to give up the cloth either and chase after strange young men. I perhaps...do not know my sister as well as I thought."

You took a shuddering breath. It could be true. You could not know, you might never know except from Ioveta herself. You take a shuddering breath again, your mind dark as you stagger away

Character sheet: http://pastebin.com/rZQ8vVBd

You are Wilhelm of Koblenz.

And there was some sort of feast going on in the palace. You could hear the music and it kept you awake, agitated your sleep. Whistling flutes, local drums and harps. It was a thorn in your side.

Mostly because they played so, so, so damned badly! If you were up there with harp in hand you could play tune that would even have that bastard Fulk dancing like a girl. You would have it so the feast would spill into the streets, and all Jerusalem caught up in festivity.

But instead you lay upon your dirty palette and scowled at the ceiling, wishing death upon half the revelers upstairs.

There came a knock upon your door.

A guest being so polite, at this hour?

"And who the hell has come to mock me?" you ask.

"I-I do not come to mock my betrothed," Ioveta said, her voice quite bittersweet. There is a sound, of lock opening, and the door creaked inward. Ioveta stood in your cell doorway, clutching a cloak tight around her, red faced and smiling, wobbling on her feet.

She was drunk.

"I could not stay and fake my happiness," she said, "While you lay in chains down here."

You wore not chains, but caught her point. She stumbled into the cell, almost falling and you catch her.

She all but panted in your arms, her smile lost.

"I could not act another moment," she pressed against you, mouth finding your neck, "I could not keep pretending."

How about a Yazahdi?

I know it's kind of horrible to Chiri, but she'd make an amazing honey trap.
>>
You draw her chin up and kiss her soft. She whimpers into your kiss, tears spilling down her cheek and into your beard. When your lips part softly she nestles her neck against your beard, pulling you to her. Your mouth parts to kiss her slender neck, your hands running up her back. She tasted like honey wine.

"Your beard," she giggled, "Feels nice."

Her hands were running across your shoulder and back your neck, into your hair. Your hands skitter down her back to find that sweet little peach of hers and you pull her close, squeezing it. She's on her knees in your lap, looking down at you with lips parted and a bright blush across her face.

"Happiness is you."

Three words and her mouth closed and eyes teared up. You gathered her up into your lap as she started to cry, kissing her softly, tickling her cheek with the bristles of your beard.

"I love you," she said. And then she bunched her hands up into her face. "I'm so stupid." Your fingers danced across her belly.

"You're one of the most intelligent people I know," you said.

She threw her arms around your neck and kissed you again, harder and more urgent. "Let's not wait for the wedding," she said, "Let's not wait. I want you. Only you."

If a wedding was to come at all, if you were to live that long.

You wanted her, but....

If things went badly, if things took a turn for the worst, you would not shame her. You would not have her judged and tormented as an adulteress or fallen woman. If she were to be examined and found wanting, who knew what hell could fall upon her.

"Trust me," you said, as you held her.

There were these girls in Cyprus, that had taught you a trick or two about pleasuring a woman.

You slipped your hands up her dress, run them up, pushing them up, and push her against the wall. Your head you push up, mouth open as if to kiss.

"W-what are you-" she began, but her question turns into an excited confused sigh as your mouth closed 'round her other lips. She was held, face flushed against the wall, eyes upward as if prayer, gripping you by the hair, thighs tight around the ears as you worked.

The only word she manages was a soft, plaintive 'god!' as your fingers flexed 'gainst her, holding her up while your mouth worked. She shuddered a prayer and you tasted her honey, let it run through your beard as her thighs clenched tight 'round your head, almost muffling completely her rising moans.

When you release her she has a look of open wonder upon her face.

"I do not..." her thighs still trembled and she gripped at you for life, "I did not think."

You kissed her. "Just a shadow of our wedding day," you said, and she looked surprised but also delighted, and kissed you hard upon the mouth, grabbing for you.

"A-and your suffering I should reprieve," she said, "A-and return like for like." She said, feeling your hardness through your trousers.

You lay back as her slender hand pushed you down, drawing you forth, her golden hair falling a curtain upon your lap, near masking the gasp that sprung from her lips...

You almost fucked up at the feast.

It nearly did turn into NTR. I was dropping hints like hell. I figured there would be two chances, cut it off with Hugo or cut it off with Wilhelm.

And if Wilhelm had turned Ioveta away after throwing herself at him while drunk, yeah, Elias would not have been a liar.

I'll probably always block in duels from now on unless we are against a mace user or something. Most people are eager to attack and blocks seem to be really powerful in moderation.

Roll above 90 and it's the most powerful "attack" we have. Roll shit and we still mitigate/lessen damage without getting crit'd.

The Crusades from the perspective of the Muslims and Byzantines by a couple academic guys I can't remember.

>who would you cast as Prince Elias?
Sorry for missing this, but I did have a model in mind for Elias. A more muscular Cary Elwes or Errol Flynn.
>>
>>35559400
he doesn't seem punchable enough.
>>
>>35559562
He's french. Everyone wants to punch the french, just to say they did and are still whole.
>>
>>35559562

Just picture him as Cary Elwes from Robin Hood man in tights
>>
>>35558622
I like Hugo better actually. It's nice to not order people to do the killing for us for once.
>>
Wait what
The lesbian was bedded by Elias?
>>
>>35560316
Not a lesbian, just bisexual.
>>
Hey, do you think that Count Dooku guy thought Wilhelm was really just talking about dogs and birds?

>>
You could have stopped this

If you had danced with Iovetta rather than used your dick to think

If you had invited Raymond to the party
