Undergrowth flies by, trampled or dodged as necessary.

Your mind, however, is not having such an easy time wrapping it's way around the events.
Your brain is a swamp, a muck-filled morass- your thoughts sluggish, dragging through the goop.

Back in reality, your Mom takes a collapsed tree like hurdle, not even slowing her pace, easily matching your own.
How exactly did you wind up like this?
Gears spin in the back of your brain, and you lay the events of the evening out, examining them each in turn.

Your nap was perfect. Exactly what you needed. You woke up feeling refreshed, Jin already bright eyed, while Sheszka swept the sleep from her lashes. Erics was still working, and your Mom was knitting a blanket or a towel or whatever- There's never any shortage of uses for the silk sheets.

Your stomachs grumbled in unison, and you all shared a look. Sheszka licked her lips, and you came to the conclusion that some more hunting practice would be just the thing.

You duck a branch, and try to focus on the past and the present at once.

You all started getting ready, pulling on armour, readying weapons. And then your Mom had levelled a glare, and in an arching tone, asked you 'just where do you think you are going, young lady?'

The argument was at least easy to remember.
"Well, We are hungry, yes? And a bit of practice working together- fighting together, would be good. So, a bit of hunting-"
"Hrnnnn. That is... fair. Yes."

Her glare doesn't move, though. She taps her fingers irritably together, the snap-crack of chitin on chitin the only sound in the nest.

And then it changes.
>>
>>35524833
Her expression softens by degrees, and she smiles.
Not the happy, motherly smile. Or the proud, fierce smile she shows you when you train. This one is cold, a predatory baring of fangs. An inhuman sort of expression.
"I think I will be going along with you, yes."
"You- wha-"

She sweeps an arm around, an encompassing gesture.
"It seems, every time you go into woods, you pick a fight with something you should not, yes? And I could not bear to see my little ones harmed. So, of course, I will come along. And keep you out of trouble."

Her smile is still fixed in pace, but her eyes are warm, sparkling with a barely contained amusement. Of course she knows exactly what she's doing. And it's not like you can really refuse...

Back in the present, you trail behind Jin and Sheszka, leading you unerringly to prey. You head deeper into the woods, dusk's fading light casting its red-orange glow across your path.

>Head towards the waterfall- You're always hearing noises over there.
>Back to the swamp- There's always something to fight.

The tracking isn't quite as smooth as previous- You follow your pair of trackers through the woods, though they lose their trail at the river. Mom idles with her spear slung over one shoulder while you look on.

A quiet exchange sets the two in motion- Sheszka follows Jin from the ground, and when Jin loses the trail, Sheszka picks it up.

They continue, switching out, picking up speed as they travel.

You pass the waterfall, mist sparkling in the sunlight, and head deeper, trailing your pack into unknown territory. Mom is right there beside you, looking as relaxed as possible.

It's almost irritating.

Shade grows.
Not from the fading light- The trees are growing heavier around you. Wilder. Older.

Your path twists, and you pull up short, nearly running over your wolf. Jin is hunched in the branches overhead, and your mother has trotted up next to you, peering around you at your prey.

The creature resting between the trees can scarcely be called a bear.

It shares a few characteristics of your prior hunts- A thick, shadowy mane, twisting in an unearthly breeze. Heavy plates crawl up its legs, thick spikes of bone jutting from beneath the heavy layers of muscle.

Mom leans a little heavier over you, spear held low in a tight grip, staring.

>Trees are close packed. A bit of weaving or an aerial assault?

Its not something I would like to gamble on, our venom/poison is really potent stuff, a single bite killed a dude. Someone with a body like Jin could still be hurt by it after it spread through the meat.
>>
Okay, No poison.
My apologies, I'm a little too used to combining votes.
>>
>>35526185
This. All it'd take is a single internal cut, accidentally biting something that shouldn't be bitten and getting a bit of a cut in someone's mouth, and horrible things would happen. Since Sheszka fights by biting and claws, I wouldn't risk it.
>>
>>35526245
The question was still, can our venom still hurt people that eat the flesh of the poisoned animal or does it lose effectiveness too fast?
>>
>>35526245
Well, we can still do venom, if you assure us other folk can eat the food after we envenomate it.

If not, then not.

I'd say it'd give them upset stomachs, if they ate too soon after the kill.

Mom moves around you, working her way into a better position when you surprise her with a hiss.

She straightens, and turns back to you, a questioning look in her eyes.

It takes a bit of effort to force a concerned tone into your voice. It takes more to stop yourself from smiling.
"Yes?"
"Look at it! Something like this is far more dangerous than what I fought before, yes!"

She frowns, and gives the bear another look.
"Little one, I am not about to just run aw-"
She snaps her head back around and advances on you, her expression already that of a long suffering mother.

You stuff a hand into your mouth, trying to muffle the giggling while your friends look on, confused as can be.

"You," Your mother punctuates each word with a poke, smooshing your cheeks around as you snicker.
"Are a brat. Of the highest order."
Her face is red, the obvious tinge of embarassment working its way across her expression while she tries to stay stern.
She grabs both your cheeks at once, stretching them out as you snort and laugh, tears running down your face.
"This is cheating, bratling. Unfair."

"Nnnno nnnno, I unnnnderstand. Running away from an exciting fight is just something you won't do, yes."
She raises her eyes skyward as she sighs.
"If you think for a moment this means I'll be going easier on you, whelpling, you are going to be very disappointed tomorrow, yes."

You giggle all the way into the foliage, hovering above the snoring bear with web in hand. Jin sits attentively in the treeline, and Sheszka is creeping forward, so flat against the ground you'd think she's a rug.

It's time to go.

You drop from the tree in tandem, watching in slow motion as the bear's head perks up as you crash through the branches.

You land on either side of the monster, thick strings of web slowing it, snaring it. Sheszka darts forward, moving faster than you've ever seen her, delivering a raking swat across the beasts nose, leaving the monsters tossing its head as it roars.

Mom's spear is already blurring, punching holes through the creatures hide with barely any resistance at all. You ready yourself to attack as it begins to turn on Mom, shadows starting to flare, even through the net.

It raises one foot as it turns, ponderously shifting itself to face your mother, and you slip forward, glaive swinging- And it slams the paw back down, twisting as the other pan-sized paw swings out, smashing into you.

The blow is like a sledgehammer; even through the armour you can feel your ribs creaking, all the air crushed from your lungs as you're thrown backwards. The beast's claws leaving terrible furrows across your chestplate, catching the silk as skitters over the armour, tearing free your spaulder and spinning you in the dirt.

You hear mom shout something as you try and get air back in your lungs- The bear's shadows slicing upwards, tearing free of the netting and bounding down onto you, roaring, jaws wide.

At the last second, you find your legs beneath you, smashing the butt of your glaive into its jaws, driving them closed with a sick crack of bone. Its charge continues unimpeded, and you're driven sideways, legs flailing as you push yourself back to your feet.
>>
>>35528003
Jin is already screeching, swooping overhead to douse the bear with starfire, and Sheszka hurtles back in from another blind angle, claws and jaws alike digging into its rear ankle, tearing free with a welter of gore.

Mom is right behind her, her face a mask of fury as she drives legs and spear alike through its hindquarters- The creatures roars creeping into squeals as she drags it back, aiming her blade at its spine as she slams it down.

A satisfying creak of bone marks the spear hitting home, stabbing below the bear's shoulders, sinking deep into it's flesh. Shadows flare up around the haft, seeking in vain to push back- and the gem flares in its housing.

A muffled whump reduces the creature's pained roars to a single, sullen gurgle. It vomits blood, legs collapsing beneath it, the ground thundering under its fall.

Silence wraps the clearing.

Isn't it funny that whenever you're doing something and nobody is around to see it you do fine but the moment when someone is around that is judging you, even if it's something you've done many times before without a problem you always seem to mess things up.

Also ask mom how mad she thinks the town's blacksmith is going to be that she ruin her armor. If I recall right, he was always mad when mom came back to town with her armor all busted up.
>>
>>35528316
well, the clawmarks across the front are fine. Probably not super important. Cosmetic damage.

That torn pauldron though, grr arg.
>>
>>35528330
The pauldron should be reattachable, no problem: she could probably replace the torn leather with silk.

Your Mother stand over the corpse, wrenching her spear free. Jin has settled into the branches above, watching you closely. Sheszka s cleaning her face. And gauntlets. With her tongue. You wouldn't think she could fit it all into her mouth, but there it goes.

You focus on little things. Standing. Breathing. You feel sore all over, and the first few deep breaths are hard, accompanied by a twinge of pain as you inhale. A few gentle pokes along your side leave you assured- You're bruised to hell and back, sore all over, but nothing is broken. Thankfully.

Jin flutters down to land on your shell, twisting this way and that to examine you. You pat her reassuringly, distracting her before she can build up any worry.
"Well done, yes? It was a hard fight, but you did good."
She shakes her head.
"Not enough. I need to be better."
She looks up at you, eyes clear.
"Stronger."

"You'll get stronger, Jin. We all will. Together, yes?"
She nods, her whole body shaking with the force of it.
"Yes. Together."

Sheszka prowls up next to you, still licking her chops, brushing her shoulder along your legs as she looks for approval. A scratch behind the ears, a kind word, and the wolf is beaming. All is right in her world.

Mom has the bear half wrapped, so you focus your attention on finding your missing bits of armour- You're not having any luck till Sheszka pops up again, pauldron in her mouth.
>>
>>35529003

>Lyra lewding things up with Jin and Sheszka while sporting her Ungodly Stern face.

I bet a leash and a falconer's glove is involved.
>>
>>35529174
The edge of the metal has curved slightly up, and a trio of tears lace its edge. The bears claws hit the strap, and tore it free.
Your breastplate is in similar shape- four jagged runnels marking it's surface. Hopefully they don't mess with the plates integrity, or they're easy to repair.

Either would be good.

With one bear slung over her spider half, your mother pulls you front and centre, giving you a once over.

She prods at your armour. Runs her hands through the torn silk at your shoulder. Pokes your ribs, watches as you wince with a quiet expression.
"Hm. Not bad, yes. A little eager. Good recovery."
She sighs.
"I am glad you are safe, yes."
Planting a kiss on your forehead, she starts to lead you back down the twining path, heading for home.

A fighting type with innate counter-magic and non-magical utility abilities is a FUCKING DICK for wizards to fight.
>>
>>35529227

We got swat'd because it was turning to face mom and faked us out.

Screwed with our Mojo, we (probably) wouldn't have gotten hurt otherwise, too used to being the singular tank and having ALL OF THE AGGRO on us.
>>
>>35529227
kind of wondering if Mom will push herself hard enough to evolve after the bear kill.
>>
>>35529258
opening scene of the time skip
We wake up normally as nothing has happened, excited that today is the day we get to go dungeon crawling, on the way out we hit our head on the door frame, then we notice that everything is smaller... and why is everyone staring?
>>
>>35529486
Unlikely we got 20 levels today. Sheszka, on the other hand...
>>
>>35529486
>doorframe
we're roofless savages
>>
>>35529258
Well, she was only 11 levels away from evolving, maybe the bear was enough?
>>
>>35529525
Well, there might be a chance if you add in all the training we've been doing.
>>
>>35529542
the bear + fright/rage that her daughter could have been killed so she actually pushed herself to end it fast, and then at least a few days of beating the crap out of Lyra with training.
>>
>>35529579
She doesn't have a crazy XP multiplier, though: recall that she's a well traveled, thirty year old arachne still in her second form.

>>35529560
I think we'll definitely see the next evolution after the dungeon crawl, but I don't think the training+dire shadow bear will do it.
>>
Prediction time:

We won't even have a chance to get skullantula, we aren't accomplishing any of its requisites.

Instead, we'll probably get wolf or orb.
>>
>>35529618
I'm still hoping Mom will get her second evolution before us.
>>
>>35529642
Wolf pack hunting speed awesome teamwork go!
>>
Reminder that the mothpeople are actually just pixies.
>>
>>35529642
>We won't even have a chance to get skullantula
Thats pretty likely actually. Considering our style we will most likely get Wolfspider.
But then again, we don't actually know what Gravespider is about, so maybe we do get its requirements.
>>
>>35529642
I'd argue the likelihood is Wolf, then Skull, with Orb least likely. Orb is the weaving evolution. We practice stealth and combat far more than weaving.
>>
>>35529642

We won't get Orb, as that most likely requires trapping things, y'know, like the actual fucking spider?

Or we won't get any of the three, maybe we'll get another evolution entirely.
>>
>>35529618
her XP rate took a big leap after the kids where born, considering we are not even a month old yet she has gained ~15% of her total lifetime XP in that month.
>>
Long story short wolf is really likely but I don't like it at all.

>>35529721
I wanna trap things!
>>
>>35529721
Yeah no such things as spiders that run around and hunt. Like Wolf spiders... or wandering spiders... or most hobo spiders.
>>
Or we get a variant, thus none of the above
>>
>>35529723

The greatest leap came when we went into the ruins, giving her major levels of stress, and then waiting outside and butchering god knows how many wandering monsters in the night while waiting for us.
>>
I'm interested in Jin's goals in getting stronger, is she going to get Roc sized? Change her stars into small meteorites traveling at re-entry velocity?
>>
>>35529732
We don't play that way at all. Web has always been a supplement in combat never the focus.
>>
>>35529732
We can turn down evo's though right? I'm pretty sure that's how it works. If we don't like an evolution we should be able to turn it down in hopes of a "better" spiderbutt.
>>
>>35529741

Not a single one of those is an orb spider.

What point are you trying to make?
>>
>>35529721
Since we got those three shown because they are the ones we already meet some conditions for, its unlikely we get any variant that isn't one of those. The only thing that might happen is we get offered a generic evolution, in which case we can just refuse until we get something better.
>>
>>35529785
I think we'll get a spell-breaker/magic-reversal class rather then any of the three.
>>
>>35529854
I hope that skulltula is the spell breaker class.
>>
did REQM say that the three classes he showed us were simply the classes we were leaning towards the most, not the only three choices we had period?
>>
>>35529785
With how much weapons use comes into our hunting, I'm feeling some type of Lord. That's almost definitely what Mum is going to get, in any rate.
>>
Dinner is easy. Calm. A bit restrained, maybe. Elle and Aria turn up- One with armfuls of new dyes, and the other near dancing in her new armour. Erics joins the meal a bit late, holding out your new battery, the runes already beginning to glow with curing light as it charges.

The food is delicious, that much better for the company. Sara manages to push her way next to you, to your packs dismay. She fusses over you, over your mauled armour as the others share your right side and sulk.

Sleep isn't easy- Not nightmares this time. Just trying to sleep with all your bruises. You wind up lying backwards across your shell, surrounded by friends and family.

The next day is worse. Your bruises have purpled, leaving your flesh tender beneath your clothes.

The armour, at least, is repairable. Elle provides a new undershirt in no time flat, and the bear provides strips of leather, securing your pauldron back in its proper place. The gouges you fill with the clear, hardening polish you used for your glaive. A bit of grinding leaves the surface smooth, though you can clearly see the marks.

Training is Hell. Knowing a dungeon awaits you, Mom pushes you further than before, drilling you between rounds of sparring. Aria gets the same treatment- even Sheszka gets a crash course in defense, which amounts to your Mom chasing her around the arena till she can corner her, forcing her to block and parry with the gauntlets.
>>
>>35529891

He said that those were the three most common/generic evolutions past the widow stage, they weren't relevant to us at all besides the fact that we are currently at the widow stage.
>>
>>35529778
Forgive me, reading comprehension failure. Read your post and the guy you responded to as the same one. Came to a different conclusion.
>>
>>35529914

You sleep upstairs that night. You don't trust your legs to make the trip down.

The morning light greets you- along with a whole lot of noise from below. You worm your way to the edge, and rappel down the tree to the nest proper.

Mom has grown- She's added a few inches to her height- and her hair is nearly a curtain, falling all the way past her hips, draping over her shell. Her black chitin-covered hands are marked with a smooth red gem on each, and her hair is parted by a delicate looking pair of horns, maybe the length of a finger, curving up.

Erics and Sara alike are frantically taking notes while she stands, embarrassed. Aria's eyes are shining.

Training is called off for the day when the padded spear snaps like a twig in her grip. You count your blessings.

Mom switches gears- Running you through simple woodsman skills- Lighting fires, telling directions by the stars. It takes a few tries before you get it. She slides neatly into first aid- bandages, pressure on wounds, splints, how to deal with poisons, diseases. You follow her every word. You won't allow anyone to be hurt on your watch.

Sheszka, having mistakenly volunteered to be a test dummy, spends most of the day as a mummy, wrapped so tightly in silk bandages that she can't stand.
>>
>>35529914
>Sara manages to push her way next to you, to your packs dismay. She fusses over you, over your mauled armour as the others share your right side and sulk.
Lyra's going to be covered in girls tonight, isn't she?
>>
>>35529854
Since we got those after the necromancer fight, one of them IS the spellbreaker evolution if there is any, since we definitly met a spellbreaking condition if there is any.
>>
>>35529945
Satisfied with your progress, or at least reassured that you won't keel over and die with your first wound, Mom allows Sara and Erics to drag your to the now desolate field of the ruins. Where they hurl ever growing pieces of magic, and you desperately do whatever you need to to avoid becoming an oily stain.

Fireballs, Giant burning orbs of starfire- By the end, you even caught a bolt of lightning with one hand. The shocked expressions on their faces made it all worth it.

Dinner is quiet, but the whole nest is buzzing. In Aria's case, literally. Mom tells her to cut that out, and that she's a spider, not a bee.
Tomorrow...
Tomorrow, a dungeon is waiting for you.

You dream of glowing walls, of treasure and monsters and traps, and the adventures you've always dreamed of.

We usually use our legs for the lethal attacks on targets that aren't heavily armored, we definitly use both, but legs both have been used since the beginning and have been used just as much as glaive in later fights, so overall we technically used them "more". Although its probably more accurate to say we use them equally often, we just tend to finish with the legs for convenience.

A lord evolution honestly doesn't seem likely for us.
Even if one were to claim our primary weapon is a weapon, lord evolutions are not weapon specialists because they merely use weapons but because they focus on using them with skill.

Our mother has been an adventurer for a long time and is not only good at beating faces in but has acquired significant amounts of skill with that glaive of hers. There is a reason our training sessions with her have largely involved her weaving through our defence and outmaneuvering us.

Lyra on the other hand beats the shit out of things not by having trained to use that glaive of hers for a really long time or even being a one in a million genius at using glaives.
She's been killing shit by being a gigantic murdermachine who wrecks you with whatever means are available to her, most of which come from being a massive magical spider.

>>35530689
Grave is sounding more likely if I understand the requirements of its evolution.
which I do not.
>>
AM I the only one who thinks grave is really tacky?
I mean, jeez spider, did you get that from hot topic? Need some make-up for your emo get-up too?
>>
>>35530730
>>35530730
that is my primary reason for not having it as my primary evolutionary choice.

If it was just, like, a bigger, plate-ier, spikier lyra instead of SKULLBUTT, I'd be 100% behind it.
>>
>>35530657
Thats not really true, ist just as possible we didn't have the Chance yet to meet the condition for one of the others. Ist also part luck what Kind of conditions we get the Chance to meet at all.
>>
>>35530730

We already have a skull pattern on our butt, as do ALL OTHER SPIDERBUTTS in this forest.
>>
>>35530743
Yeah the whole GRAVE aspect of it is why I don't like it. SKULL BUTT LAWL SO METAL!

No thank you.
>>
>>35530743
Who says it's not any of those things? It just so happens to look like a skull as well.
>>
>>35530770
We can turn it metal for you. upon closer inspection the skull that we have on our butt is a bear skull of the last bear that we hunted.
>>
>>35530788
>who said it's not any of those things
No, I said it WAS all those things.

I just want those things without the skullbutt.

>>35530770
Can you please articulate yourself without LAWL THE OTHER GUYZ SOUND LEIK DIZ I SO CLEVAR
>>
>>35530746
Chance to meet - No we probably had it... and didn't do it that way because... we don't play that way.

The instance with the Gnome attacking Sarah awhile back. There could be a Berzerker buff. Instead of RUSHING TO KILL IT! We chose to stand guard over Sarah.

Not having the opportunity means we didn't choose any events to lead to it. Meaning it's not our play style.
>>
>>35530689
Giant spiders can kill you in any way they please.

The very fact that we use multiple methods should help open up unique evolutions. For our age we're not only exceedingly skilled in both arachne and polearm combat, but also magic. As a combatant we've developed a very balanced and very advanced skill set and I suspect that will play a big role in our evolution.
>>
>>35530802
Sure. I do not wish to have a giant skull attached to Lyra's ass. No matter how you spin it I don't think it fits her personality at all.
>>
>>35530821
True... what does the lighting catcher add to our evolutionary chart?

Lyra Lighting Fist! Queen of the Forests. Alpha.
>>
>>35530830

Mom's horns don't fit her personality either.
>>
>>35530848
I think they suit her evil smiles awfully well. Every session of training we had a panic moment of oh god... what have we done.

The horns cover that I'd say.
>>
>>35530807
Looking at the conditions we had for our Ruby Arachne, no, thats not how it works. Some of those are pretty specialised so ist very possible we never got into the Situation where we could meet some conditions.
>>
>>35530847
Hell if I know, REQM has been fairly vague on the subject of how evolutions are directed by environmental changes. Wish he'd been vaguer, personally, this shitstorm over skullbutt vs. fluffybutt is really starting to get old fast.
>>
Later, the skullbutt looks sort of like a kamen rider mask.
>>
>>35530920
It's a self-waifu war
>>
>>35530920
Yeah. Never mentioning the evolution would have been good. Can't bitch about the grave but I don't like if I don't know it an't coming. Once I get it I'll just be happy I got it... because it's an upgrade.

Ignorance is bliss it seems.
>>
>>35530920
Skullbutt best butt.
>>
>>35530879

The point of the matter is that evolutional traits has fucking nothing to do with personality except for sub-evolutions where demeanor might or might not come into play.

Like Lyra's desire to protect, that netted her the Ruby sub evolution of Widow.
>>
>>35530920
Yeah, I'm starting to wish that QM had not posted the designs until AFTER we hit the next evolution.
>>
>>35530925
That's worse.
>>
>>35530925
...you have my attention.
>>
>>35530935
We got those so we could strive for a specific Evolution instead of just taking whatever we get offered, I don't think ist abad Thing. We were fairly civil about the skullbutt vs. fluffy Spider before.
Ist only now when some faggots start making a Drama out of it, but that can happen with anything anyway.
>>
>>35530770
Eh. Going by the picture, Its not a human skull, or even a humanoid skull.
Just a cool monster skull thing. Dragon or giant lizard type thing. It seemed more along the lines of animals wearing things that edge-spider.
>>
What happened to op?
>>
>>35530942
I bet he posted the evolutions were LEAST likely to get, I'm betting we'll get a spell-breaker evolution that's neither of the three,

You know how hard it is typing on a human-sized keyboard when you're a giant spider?

Super hard
>>
Dawn finds you rising, stretching out with a yawn- Across from you, Aria is already awake, hands folded neatly in lap as she watches the sun crawl up the trunk.

Maybe you could have your father mark it, somehow. Rings around the tree. You could probably get a decent idea of the time like that.

You throw her a nod as you push your latest bizarre plan to the back of your mind. Next to you, Sara and Jin snore- Sheszka starts to stir, limbs flopping free of the blanket as she starts to wake.

Your eyes fall on her... hand? Paw? Whatever. Protruding from the cavern of sheets she's wrapped herself in. It takes a moment to process, and then your eyes start to widen. Her fur has darkened visibly- and of more importance, in grey and fading into white- a loose pattern of in the shape of web traces over her hand.

You pull back the covers, revealing your wolf- She's added a few inches to her height, but her shaggy hair is the same as always. Only one hand bears the web pattern- but beneath her bangs, you can see two pairs of marks- one set above, and the other below her eyes. They're set off to the sides, marking her cheekbones and brows.

Her eyes slowly open, and she smiles up at you, rubbing at her eyes as she sits up.
>>
>>35531113
Pulling her hand away from her face, she blinks rapidly, eyes wide as she takes in the pattern across her hand- and her smile grows wide, tears forming in the corners of her eyes as she holds her arms up towards you.
"Alpha- Alpha! Lyra! See- Do you see? I am yours. Your pack!"

The unrestrained joy in her eyes, the excitement edging her voice- You pull her into a hug, reaching past her offered hands, dragging he against you. You can feel her warmth, her tail going wild as you whisper praise, one hand holding her to you while the other gently strokes through her hair.

She wraps her arms around you in turn, and you stay glued together until breakfast, where the wolf proudly shows her pattern to an attentive Jin. Who points out the eye markings, and sets her tail going again, thumping happily against anything in range.

Your Mom offers a moment's praise to the wolf before she's all over you and Aria both, double checking your bags, your gear.
"You can't forget even a piece of armour, yes. Without one, it all falls apart-"
She spins you both around as she tightens straps, shifts plates around. Any minute work she can do.

Finally satisfied with the state of your gear, at least, she offers all four of you a small pouch of potions.
"Do not try and save them, yes? A situation you could better handle healthy can be deadly."
You nod, and your family and friends follow you out into the woods.

>>35530991
Upwards 90% of the debate over evolutions has been driven purely by the appearance of said evolutions. We don't know how the evolution is picked, so we can't strive for one or the other, we wouldn't know how. The entire debate is so pointless it makes my head spin.
>>
>>35531135
Through the ruins, towards the Moth's home.
You turn away from the arch, and Sheszka leads you unerringly to the wide entrance of the dungeon.
The Runes littering its form glow as you approach, almost welcoming you back.

Your father claps you on the back, and you step forward, Aria, Sheszka in tow, and Jin riding behind you.

You can feel the excitement building.
Your heartrate rising with each beat, a staccato thump as you look down the rune-lit stairs.

A dungeon.
An adventure.

Your hands clench as you stare.
This is- This is real.
You have a family, people who are always, always there for you. You have people who will follow you into the belly of the earth, into something unknown and dangerous.
You have people you would move heaven and earth to protect.

Your whole body seems to vibrate. Excitement, happiness. Even with the hard parts, the scary parts. Wolves and gnomes and bears. Starlit nights. Burning earth, Clattering skeletons, dripping ruins.

It's worth it. It's all been worth it.
You release a breath you didn't even register holding, and take another, deeper than before. You can smell the forest around you, the old stone before you. The tingle of magic lining the walls.

You turn back, a smile lighting your face, and look your smallest sister in the eyes.
"Sara."
She blinks as she looks up at you, a hint of surprise working through her eyes.
"Do you want to come? With us?"

She looks down, past you and into the darkness below. There's the shadow of fear in her eyes, in the way she holds herself. And then she looks at you- holding one hand out to her, honest happiness written across your features. She looks to your outstretched hand.

She takes a half step, hesitating.

She takes your hand.
"You'll keep me safe, yes?"
You can barely hear her voice beneath the rustling leaves, but you know what she wants all the same.
"I swear. By any gods, by all gods. I'll keep you safe, Sara."
>>
>>35531946

The fear is still there, but her eyes are warm as she smiles at you.

You turn to your father, your smile still threatening to break free of your face.
"... Dad."

He stiffens a bit, standing straighter as he looks at you.
"Could you give me a hand? I could use a bit of mana, yes."
He smiles, nods.
You can feel the power condense around him, the thrumming sense of magic coalescing.
He pushes it towards you, one hand shifting forces beyond his frame.

You take the magic and his hand both.

Your eyes close, and you let the power flow into the ground. Into the dungeon. You can feel the pull of the earth, the shifting forces far below, rejoicing as they answers your call. Delighted to serve.

Your breath catches as you feel, see the dungeon unfold under your feet. Stairs spiralling, passageways criss-crossing. Hidden walls, the faint sense of magic, of treasure. The footfalls of the creatures within. The grind of traps.

You open your eyes, and nod to your father. Your Dad. You can feel the runed crystal he made for you, pulsing with power, hanging around your neck, beneath your armour.

He offers a genuine smile, and you return it, turning back to the stairs, to your dungeon.
The darkness enfolds you as you walk, but there's no fear here.
Family and friends follow in your footsteps, and you have never been happier.

>>35532586
We shall build one. Jin will man it from her spiderperch.
>>
>>35532586
It just hit me that if we keep evolving to become a tanky spider, we might just wind up a paladin of the Demi-god of Protection.
I mean, we already got her blessing, what's stopping us from becoming the defender of the family and forest?
>>
>>35532327
So, who wants to guess how our siblings will evolve?

The brothers will probably end up Jumping Spiders, I think.

Elle will end up Orb, then Darwin's Bark.
>>
>>35532740

The fact that we are going to be leaving the forest before too long?

Gotta go loot exotic lands and kill exotic things while seducing exotic women.
>>
>>35532783

And administering lewd head pats to exotic innocent girls!
>>
>>35532783
Damn, I forgot about that. I still like the idea of a tanky spiderbutt.
>>35532798
Just think of the lay-on hands effect!
>>
First sheszka, then she calls him dad for the first time.
Goddamn.
>>
>>35532783
>implying we'll go that far

we'll hardly go more than a week out, I bet.
>>
>>35532882

Clearly you underestimate how far we will go to learn exotic methods of head patting

>Lyra travels to another dimension entirely to learn how to make simple shampoos so she can LEWD the EverLEWDING SHIT out of Sheszka and Jin's hair / fur / feathers / meaty bits.

Son, we will have a harem of monstergirls at the rate we're going. They will be our royal honor guard.
>>
>>35533201

Don't call it a harem.

Even though it totally is

It's going to be a group of 2-4max pretty monstergirls that happen to share everything and help each other ease frustration while having very close emotional and physical bonds with each other that may or may not be called love.
>>
>>35533246
>Monsters reach adult at most at 2 years
>Have 'romantic' feelings after a couple of months
>Don't become fertile for many years.
>>
>>35533316

So in a couple years we'll kidnap some schmuck, give him the night of the millenium, eat him, and then raise our horde of Uberspinne.
>>
>>35533368
No, bad, we need to get someone who wouldn't leave like our dad did.
>>
>>35533474

But the chiddrends would have their other mommies!
>>
>>35533531
Adventure before romance for as long Lyra doesn't come across as stupidly dense, we agreed on this already.
>>
>>35533568

I was talking about way down the line man, jeeze, you think I want Lyra to be a young mother? We would have to wait a whole THREE MONTHS before we could take them with us, hunting and killing exotic things!

I am not being sarcastic.
>>
>>35533624
Just making sure, waifu/husbando talks have been kind of crazy.
>>
>>35533740

I'm personally for waifuan' over husbandoan' solely for the reason that most male love interests in quests kinda suck.

I mean, I have faith in REQM, but it's still my general rule of thumb on the matter.
>>
>>35533806
I'm the same way, but worry that people without respect for Lyra's character will go after the first person to show interest in her romantically without further consideration like starving men at a buffet.
>>
>>35533806
My rule of thumb is to ignore the w-word and h-word. Love should not create so much hate, so I say we focus on the romance of adventure.
>>
>>35533946
Agreed, as did others a few threads ago. Romance will happen with time on its own, no need to force it.
>>
>>35533946
>>35533986
It's fun to talk about hypotheticals, the actual inquest romance won't happen for a very long time.
>>
>>35534019
Good.
>>
>>35534019
That's true too, I have a bad habit of not reading the final few chapters of stories because the idea of a story ending mildly depressing.
