"... Please walk me through this again, yes? I do not understand."
You fidget, twitching in place under your mother's glare.
"Well. Uh. We wanted to practice, yes? Working together. And Sheszka got a new weapon."

Sheszka holds up her hands, clinking the fingers of her gauntlets together. Jin is still sleeping noiselessly behind you.
"Metal claws. My claws."

"Continue."
"So we headed into the forest. To find something to hunt. And then we found-"
"A giant crab. Yes."
"Yes."

Your mother gestures, one hand holding her arm, the other motioning for you to continue.
"Well, we fought it, yes?"
"Why?"
"It was... there?"

"That is not a real reason, Lyra."
You offer both hands.
She sighs, leaning back over her shell.
"Upstairs, Lyra."
"Yes."

You grab Jin, carrying the snoozing harpy upwards, into the arena. Sheszka follows, easily hauling herself up the rope ladder.

Writing!

>>35503627
They are, but Mom doesn't approve of fighting giant monsters.
>>
>>35503379
So, I just read Re:Monster to the most recent translation. Never noticed this quest before then. The MC in the quest isn't totally fine with rape, right? That really made me stop liking the MC of the LN.
>>
>>35503944
We aren't like him and would probably kill and eat him if we had the chance.
>>
>>35503944
Its just using the setting.
>>
>>35503944
The MC is a freaking weird ass marysue cross of action and hentai protag

The setting is still good though

The fucked up logic of the writer for the MC actions was just to fucking stupid to justify reading more
>>
>>35503944
Just got caught up with this quest, we're definitely different from (and better than) the Re:Monster MC.
>>
>>35503944
Don't worry about it: Lyra is not a super rape machine super soldier. She's just a giant spider that likes kicking butt and petting fluffy heads and tails.
>>
>>35503944

Man, what are you fucking talking about? There has never been something known as RE:Monster before OP made this quest, sure there have been similar things, but not a single fucking one of them was the author blatantly using it as a power and wish fulfillment outlet, certain not one about some psychic super soldier mindbreaking elves for his army of goblins to rape hourly while being entirely against rape, but he mindbroke them to enjoy it, while he goes and fucks his harem of human women who previously were the fuckslaves / broodmares of his goblin army, so it's okay.

This is a completely original setting for a completely original quest, shit man, you crazy.
>>
>>35503944
No. If we meet a tribe of rape-goblins, we'll just kill them. And loot them. And help the rape slaves, of course.

Not condemn their rapey ways, recruit them, then help them continue their raping while doing mental back loops to justify it to ourselves.
>>
>>35504202
Sarcasm aside, didn't he poison said human females and kill them?
>>
>>35504264
Kinda, he left the poison there for them to use, so more like assisted suicide?
>>
>>35503975
We'd try, but he'd rape and eat us.

But It was the first thing we found and we made the entire town very happy, everyone wins! Also we found this neat shiny rock which we can show to Sara and Dad!

The setting has potential but that self insert was just bad man
>>
>>35504365
No. That was pretty much the most merciful thing he could have done. The problem was that later he captures a bunch of elves, including males, and turns them into sex slaves by giving them aphrodisiacs and waiting for them to give in.

I'm gunna be honest, reading that light novel both made my head hurt worse than anything has ever done, including have my skull case being clipped by a claw hammer flying from the back of a truck, and brutally murdered a considerable portion of my faith in the decency of people that share my hobbies.

I mean, what the fuck man?
>>
Training is mercifully short.

Sheszka watches attentively as you spar- You're actually feeling a bit of fatigue. Apparently fighting and then dragging giant crabs is tiring.

Who knew?

Mom circle you, lashing out with her weapon, almost at random- except each time it slips past your guard, she slams it into one of your legs. In short order you're barely moving, unable to advance or retreat as she closes in on you, finally lying her weapon across your throat.

You'd raise your arms, but they're not really responding anymore.

Mom wipes the sweat of her brow before tending to you, massaging life back into your arms as she talks.

"You are still a little too weak on defense, spiderling. Stop watching my spear, and start watching my arms, yes? You can see your opponents tense up when they're about to strike."
You nod, head flopping back and forth drowsily.

She's got most of your armour off at this point, lying you down, throwing a blanket over your shoulders. You try and speak- tell her about the day, about all the other things that've happened, but the words won't come out right. You slur your way through a few sentences as she laughs, patting your head gently as your eyes droop further.

"In the morning, little one. There is all sorts of time- and training- tomorrow, yes?"

You shudder, and drift into a dreamless sleep, the blank oblivion of the exhausted.

_________________________________________________________
>>
>>35504585
The sun greets you early- Higher in the tree, the rays warm you as you start to wriggle beneath your blankets. Your friends snuggled in closer while you slept, pressing right up against you- which is fine. You're not planning on moving just yet.

The soreness from your training is still there, but the spreading warmth is doing wonders for your muscles.

You'll just... lie here a while. Yes. Nothing wrong with that.

You can make plans while you rest! You're definitely not lazing about.

I think Traps are a far greater worry than any monsters we may have to fight. Not being ably to spot the pressure tiles and getting sprayed with poison darts is more likely to get us than any guardian beast.
>>
>>35504711
Making them a military powerhouse didn't require increasing their numbers. It required leveling them up in an efficient manner. Two generations of goblins is much worse than one generation of mostly hobgoblins.

>>
>>35505428
What if there's no chocolate in this world? What if there aren't even any cocoa plants?
>>
>>35505428
it depends how medieval europe-y the place is.

Because, correct me if I'm wrong, but historically we only got chocolate well into the colonial eras, after america was found, because that's where cocoa plants grow. Right?
>>
>>35505460
South America, IIRC. You also didn't get corn, tomatoes, or potatoes before they were brought back from the New World.
>>
>>35505460
When you have magic and flying races, an ocean or mountain range is less of a barriers than IRL. If chocolate exists anywhere in this world, someone will have found it and spread it.
>>
>>35505460
>well into the colonial eras
It was actually one of the first things brought back, because already the meso-american civilizations had shown it to the spaniards.
It used to be drunk pure, meaning really bitter though, europeans made it into the sweet chocolate we are mainly familiar with.
>>
>>35505545
but anon, what if they just didn't realize the true hidden power of the cocoa plant?

I mean, it requires significant machining and work to make it into actual CHOCOLATE. The closest thing to that without cooking knowhow is tea.
>>
>>35505576
You could make hot cocoa pretty easily. Roast the cocoa beans, grind them, put it in milk, and add sweetener.
>>
>>35505610
yeah, you know what, that's pretty simple.
>>
In short, we need to discover chocolate, soda, and the final chapters of (book series we were reading)
>>
You roll a few ideas over in your head. You could take the training first- But you're not sure you wouldn't fall asleep while your father lectures you. And you could take his dungeoneering 101 first, but you really don't wanna get up. Everything's warm, and your friends are soft, and getting out of bed just seems like it'd be a ton of work.

You settle back into a doze. Sheszka's legs start to go as she dreams, and on your other side Jin sneezes lightly, all her feathers puffing up at once, slowly falling back into place as her breathing evens.

The tree's shadow moves slowly across the arena- But your mom's shadow beats it quite handily, blocking out the light as she stands over you, hands on her hips.

Your eyes slide open, one set at a time, and you look up at her. She meets your gaze with an easy smile, prodding you with one leg.
"Come down and eat, little one. There is a great deal to do today, yes?"
She doesn't wait for an answer, disappearing over the side, clattering back down the tree.

You give a huff, arms pushing beneath you as you pick yourself up, blankets, birds and wolves alike cascading off you. Sheszka's head pokes out of the blanket mound, blinking in the sunlight as she looks around.

Jin snores louder.

You throw both beneath an arm before they can protest. You won't go alone. Your joints crack as you stretch out, the release of each piece of tenseness feeling glorious.

Breakfast is leftovers, same as always- Though Erics has taken to cooking what he can.

You join your mother and Sheszka alike in stealing whatever you can from his pan, neatly seasoned scraps disappearing into hungry mouths. The smell even rouses your lazy friend, and Jin joins the circle- though she just eats whatever is put in front of her.
>>
>>35505610
Ya but they didn't have cows
>>
>>35505784

Your brothers, having successfully scarfed breakfast without choking, fly over the edge and into the hunt. Mom and Erics both eye you as you chew your last bit of meat.

Slowly.

A brilliant light blazes in the back of your mind- And you swallow your scrap whole, reaching for your backpacks before either can start in on a lesson. You start talking, fast as you can, doing your best to throw them off.

"So, yesterday, yes? While we were headed to the village. There was a merchant on the road-"

Mom interrupts, a concerned look creasing her face.
"In the forest? That is not good, little one."
You shake your head.
"He was a fool, yes. When we met, his cart was broken, and his family was hanging from the cover, threatened by wolves."

Both your parents share a raised eyebrow.
"No guards?" Your father chimes in.
"Nothing. The adventurers refused to take him into the forest, of course. He apparently snuck past them, yes."
Your mother sighs, one hand covering her face.

"So we chased off the wolves, and I offered to drag the cart back, yes?"
You grin a bit at the memory.
"He was a fat little man, yes. I told him I couldn't haul the cart and all of them- I made him walk, yes."
Erics snorts, and Mom laughs as you describe the red faced merchant, puffing alongside you and your sisters, wheezing up a storm.

>>
>>35505809
"The guards chewed him out when we reached the town- But his wife wanted to thank us, yes. She gave me this-"
You say as you bring out the little carved box, hinges creaking as you show off the stone within.
"Theresa- ah, the shopkeeper in the village, yes? She didn't know what kind of stone it was. Storms or winds, she said."

Your father picks up the smooth orb, twisting it in his hands as he examines it.
"Hmmm- Storms, definitely. I can feel the thunder, rolling through it. Fairly strong, too. It is quite a gift, little one."
You set the stone and box aside, plucking the other stone from your bags.

The glow has died down without the crab, and you can see it clearly now- An oily, pearlescent blue, perfectly smooth. You hold it up with one hand, offering it to your family.
"And this was in the crab- Even after it died, it was still making water, yes."
Mom narrows her eyes at this and you usher the conversation along, handing the stone to Erics before she can get started.

He offers it a glance before he returns it.
"A fairly average water stone- Definitely useful. We could get a bath built up here, or just have running water. A few fire stones, we could even have hot water. Gods, I'd kill for a soak after a long day."
Mom nods along with him, eyeing the stone.

"We can work on it later, yes?"
THe smile is back.
"It will be a busy day for our Lyra." She says, standing up and heading towards you.

You swallow heavily. No dodging this time.

We get trapped on the ground by new moon and have to find our way back to the tree alone having scary encounters, fighting monsters and get lost in the maze of trees.
And when we come back Aria waits for us in armor asking "Do you believe in reincarnation?

That has me wondering if we'll evrer end up running into somebody else who's been reborn like us.
>>
>>35506534
I think there is a reason why REQM gave us our backstory with the murder as it was, and even bothered confirming it was actually murder suggesting he has figured out the situation for himself at least. So I think there is at least a chance of it coming up at some point. Which can really only happen if we meet someone who's been reborn.

REQM plants and harvests LEWD to make protoculture to fuel his star empire, so I would assume that he would never put his cattle in situations where LEWD cannot be done.

There's really no way that she wouldn't know about the Tomb of Horrors.

Mom pulls you to your terrified feet- And Erics is there, clapping a hand on her shoulder.
"Maybe I should take her first, Nia? Don't want her falling asleep early."
She pouts indignantly, but the argument is already settled, and your father leads you over to a collection of books, and a little lap table with all sorts of odd tools and materials scattered over it.

Jin toddles behind Sheszka as you take seats. You can't help eyeing the table, blurting out: "What is that?"
Erics follows your gaze to the messy workstation, and gestures to the crystal at the centre.
"This is the mana experiment- I'm trying to make an enchantment that does nothing, and holds a tone of Mana. I've come up with a few ideas- Uh, see, If I use these runes, It holds less, right? But it draws in the mana on it's own. It's basically a standard enchantment, but the loop is closed- I had to build in a cut-off, the first one blew up, haha. Um-"
"The second one?"
"Oh, it's just a storage... thing? People can put mana into it. Normally you can't pull mana out of things, but you should be able to anyway. I'll show you later."

He sets the table off to the side, and cracks open an old looking journal. Neat looking cursive spills over the pages, but it sure as hell isn't in a language you speak.

"Uh, sorry, this is all elvish. Just a moment... Here."
He turns the book to the three of you, and you all crowd in to look.
>>
>>35507250
>>35507250
There's a few dainty illustrations- You can make out springs, gears and levers, though it certainly isn't anything cohesive to you.
He points to a flat looking piece at the top.
"This is an activation panel, see? Um- Okay. Back a step. This is a trap. Just a spike out of a wall type thing. The panel is the trigger- Some go off immediately, some wait a few seconds. It hardly matters- Ah, well, It matters to whoever is walking behind you. The important thing is to not step on them in the first place."

You nod, and he starts into an in-depth discussion of trap logic, placement, and identification.

Floor panels with slightly wider gaps. Anything that looks too clean. Anything bloodstained. Anything hollow. Anything you can sense magic from.

"-Some traps use magic to reset, and some just use enchantments as a weapon. Those should be easy for you. Mechanical ones are a bit harder, but Nia says she can feel them when they start to move. Usually. Take it slow, don't retreat, and keep an eye everywhere- The deadliest traps tend to hit from blind spots, like the ceiling, or a few steps behind you."

Jin has gone unconscious at your side, leaning against your arm as she snoozes. Sheszka interrupts every few sentences, and gets a word explained.

The class has been great for her already, her vocabulary is expanding pretty fast.

He closes the book with the finality of a referee's whistle.

"Well, I've kept you long enough. Nia will be waiting up top."

You wince, and make to leave when he snaps his fingers.
"Ah, before you go- The recharging stone can hold a pair of spells, and the one that needs a mage can hold five. It'll take a few hours to charge back up, but you can probably squeeze out maybe two or three sets a day. Which would you like?"

Yes, but if we have them handy, we won't need it.

If Sara is next to us, we'll just draw mana from her like normal. The idea behind this is for when Sara ISN'T there.
>>
Recharging stone, and straight to Mom!

>>35507515
Enchantments need to be closed, or they won't work.
If you wanna try draining and holding magic, then letting it recharge, that could possibly work. It would just take rolls to keep a bit of focus on holding the mana.
>>
>>35507279
I already voted for-

>Recharging Stone (2 Spells, Self Charging)

- but I want to know if there's anything preventing us from taking both? Carrying an extra amulet will hardly weigh us down.

Does Elfdad only have materials for one? If nothing's stopping us, I say we ask him for one of each.
>>
>>35507682
So when you say we have no internal control, we really have no internal control.
>>
So REQM, you ever gonna show us the chart we rolled on when Lyra's magic came up the first time?

I wanna see what our other results could have been.
>>
Well, now that we have a mana source, we should put all future magic XP ALL INTO ELEMENTAL CONTROL.

No new spells like stoneskin or bullshit like that, all into maximum earthbender.
>>
>>35507691
i hope its only 1 or enough materials to make a single one., we are already absurdly powerful, and this would just make it even more so.
>>
So, does Lyra's impossible spellthiefiness mean she will eventually be able to casually break anti-magic fields?
>>
>>35507770
Eventually we need to get two and just get them to feed into eaxhother. 2 stones smoothed together for 7 regenerating.
>>
>>35507793
We might be able to make an enchantment that turns spells back on he caster. I wonder if we can take enchanted objects and not just take control of the enchantment but change it to something else. Assuming the same or lesser amount of mana required.
>>
>>35507763
I actually had Sara spell it out when you rolled, haha!
Earth, Ice, Fire or Metal was the 1d4.

Enchantments are set in the runes used to make them. You can rip mana free and make them non-functional.

You hang Jin over one shoulder, and she murmurs something about stars and red spiders as you traverse the tree. Sheszka pulls her way up the ladder, pleases as can be.

Your mother is waiting above, running through drills of her own in the spare time, spear flickering in intricate patterns- You recognize it as the exercise one. One to pull at every muscle you'll use, and one to memorise the movements you'll need to fight.

You take a seat, a moment of peace before you start the days workout.

She tilts her head to you, all the indication she'll allow to interrupt her routine. You wait patiently as she pushes through the last few minutes of the practice, dancing, spear in hand, with her shadow. Her lunges and swings slow, the cool-down round of the workout coming to the fore.

A few minutes more and she turns to you, planting the butt of her spear and looking you over. She smiles.
"Up you get, little one. And put the bird down, yes?"

You nod, standing gracefully, tucking the harpy next to Sheszka.
You step into the arena, picking up a training spear and taking a stance.

Mom spares a moment to nod at your wolf before she starts.
"I'll get to you next, little wolf."

Then she dashes forwards, and your training/punishment begins.

I still don't see any point to not focus on offense if you are a giant spider. You can't cover your large body most of the time anyway, so fast kills and shock tactics are by far what we are best at. As shown with the wolves and kobolds.

>>35508973
It's for when those shock and awe tactics fail. Also, we sort of have a blessing for being a guardian or whatnot, so that suggests that there's a point to defense.

>It's for when those shock and awe tactics fail.
No one said we should exclude defense, only there is no point specialising in it.
You can't really make a decent strategy basing it on the assuption your main strength will fail. Even if you take that possibility into account.
Our blessing triggers always and only when fighting to protect others, actual "defnding" isn't necessary.

A night's sleep makes all the difference.

While you can't say you bested her- You kept up. And even that fills you with the warmth of pride.

Mom tears forward, spear level as she starts a full assault. You dance through it, deflecting thrusts, guiding slashes away with your buckler, sidestepping as she moves to corner you.

You circle each other, weapons flickering out and meeting in the interim, the soft sounds of the padded training weapons broken by the clatter of chitin, the panting of two people pushing themselves.

And she is pushing herself. You can see the sweat on her brow as she flicks your attacks away, the way she grits her teeth as you clash, trying to shove each other back. It makes you feel a little better.

And then she switches her grip on the spear, hands blurring as they swap places, and she thumps you firmly on the head. Your vision blurs for a half second, and she pushes forwards, jabbing like lightning towards you- Even dazed you manage to deflect some, but not enough.

You're forced down, and she levels her spear at you, signalling an end to the spar.
>>
>>35510313

You push your way to your feet, leaning on the spear for support, and she closes on you, wrapping you in a tight hug.
"Mmm. Well done, little one! That was good, yes."
She pulls back, a wide smile on her face, and you cut in.
"Are you going to teach me how to do that?"

Her smile grows, pulling her lips back and revealing her fangs.
"Maybe later, yes. But for now- It is my secret, yes. I think I will be having you working a bit harder, yes. Double up your drills, yes?"
You groan, and she laughs.

She escorts you back to Jin's side, and draws your wolf into the ring- Though Sheszka waits for your nod before she follows.

Your mother runs her through an easy routine.
And then the same one, faster.
And then a harder one.

Really, she doesn't stop pushing her till your poor wolf is lying on her back in the middle of the circle, panting heavily, unable to even pick herself up off the floor.

It feels good to be watching for once, rather than on the receiving end.

Jin is starting to rouse after your twinned beatings, slowly speeding up while you and Sheszka limp around. You clamber back down the tree- It's a little past midday now. Erics has got the table in his lap, and more books and materials than you've seen spread in every direction.

A nap would be good.
A nap would be great, right about now.

Jin, true to her nocturnal nature, has no problem going right back to sleep- and You and your wolf soon follow.

oh, I almost missed this.
And I don't seem to care much at all.

Can we get some extra skills in there? I want first aid, or better weaving.

I doubt Dad can prepare our train of thought more the treating the dungeon like The Tomb of Horror.

I don't mind this at all.
Is this something people would like to see?
>>
>>35510683
To be honest we don't always just stumble on to them, with the armor bear we left some dead lizards around to attract something bigger to fight and with the CRAB we ask Jin and Sheszka to find the biggest thing they could and they did.
>>
>>35510683
Oh yes, please REQM. This if hunting wins

Absolutly. Let's do it!

I'd like to see hunting with Spidermama
>>
>>35510799
Maybe she'll level up? Her training is to take us hunting to show us how to really do it?
>>
>>35510799
Definitly. Mother-Daughter bonding over killing giant monster.
>>
>>35510632
The only correct way to treat the Tomb of Horror is to not bother entering at all.
>>
>>35510799
Yes.
>>
>>35510799
I'm gonna laugh when we get the rolls for the smallest and weakest things when we go out hunting with Mom. We'll never be able to convince her that we aren't iintentionally seeking out the big mean things.
>>
>>35510799
Alright, then!
More Training, Extra Skills, and Counter-Magic Takes it.

Give me 6d100 for how this all goes down!
