Peasant Quest Part 14: Back and better than ever!

Character Sheet: http://pastebin.com/5PdCKbwc

QM Twitter: https://twitter.com/HeliosQM

The story so far (Ignore 2A) : http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=peasant+quest

It seems that you are having some trouble with the locals.

You and your progeny have presented yourselves to Janek, the ruler of the undead in Brooklyn but it seems a poor first impression has been made. He is demanding your sarcophagus (a unique item of considerable value) and the life of Yasmin, your 'daughter' in exchange for 'allowing' you to leave.

His various minions are pointing their guns at you and negotiations seem to be breaking down. However, mighty as you are you do not think anyone here poses any real threat to you.

You can:
1. Attack Janek
2. Agree to his demands
3. Make a last ditch attempt at negotiation
4. Other...

1. Attack Janek
freeze time move behind him then attack then keep freezeing time so we can get into his blind-spot and continue to attack after he's dead tell his men they have one chance to join us or die

>Attack Janek

Obviously this man cannot be reasoned with, you opt to settle things by force.

You can go about this in several different ways:

1. Attempt kill him as quickly and efficiently as possible.
-
2. Attempt to kill him in as brutal and overpowering a way as possible, to create a terrifying spectacle that those present will never forget.
-
3. Attempt to overpower him and beat him into submission rather than kill him.
-
4. Set your 'children' on him, see how they fare.

What do you do?

>2. Attempt to kill him in as brutal and overpowering a way as possible, to create a terrifying spectacle that those present will never forget.
do it with a bored or impatient look on our face

Professionalism is more impressive that brutality I think.

Also yay Peasant Quest!
Too bad I amd about to pass out at my keyboard.

>1. Attempt kill him as quickly and efficiently as possible.

You briskly walk up to Janek and before he or anyone else can react, strike off his head with a powerful blow from your open hand.

His body bursts into flames, then explodes in a blast of intense heat, starting several small fires and ruining your clothes. His 'court' stares at you in shock, clearly unsure of what to do now.

Do you:

1. Attempt to install yourself in Janek's place and usurp as much of his organisation as you can.
-
2. Tell all assembled to stay out of your business or they will suffer the same fate, then leave.
-
3. Claim Manhattan as your own private domain and let everyone know that anyone still within it's borders by tomorrow night without your permission will be dead.

The room quickly empties without so much as a murmur of defiance. It seems that you have made a strong impression. Soon all that remain are your offspring and the old woman who was serving as an ambassador for the local mages.

"An impressive display, does that ultimatum extend to me and those I represent?" She asks.

How do you respond?
>>
>>35503149
" I would like to work with the mages but I would not demand their fealty only the promise that they will not interfere with my peoples politics."

"no, i don't believe so. in fact, you are welcome to stay, im sure there are a few things we should talk about."

She nods, showing no overt sign of any opinion of her own.

"I shall convey your words and a report of tonights events to my masters. There will likely be someone to represent our interests present here tomorrow. Good evening,"

She calmly walks out, showing no sign of being intimidated or suprised by what has happened.

Meanwhile, Albrecht has busied himself extinguishing the fires caused by Janek's demise. Yasmin has cornered some of the human attendees who were attempting to flee and has already begun messily chewing on the neck of the nearest at hand.

What now?
>>
>>35503901
Let a few of the humans go but if we or our children are hungry, feed.

This works I suppose.
>>
>>35504017
>>35504141

Your appetites whetted by the earlier violence, the three of you devour the unfortunates who were not able to escape. You cannot be certain of it, but it feels easier and easier each time you give in to your murderous appetite, your conscience bothering you less and less each time you decide to indulge of your own free will.

“Watching you put an end to that fool was glorious father; I’d been looking forward to the reckoning ever since his servant insulted you when we were retrieving your coffin.” Yasmin remarks.

She has obviously enjoyed being a part of the evening’s events; Albrecht on the other hand remains stoic.

There are a few hours left before dawn what will you do?
>>
>>35504699
go to the unowned part of the city and begin claiming parts of it as ours saying any who want to join us can join at the club.
>>
>>35504841
(within Manhattan at least, word will get out on its own, other boroughs are another matter however)
>>

Just retrieve the sarcophagus. It's the reason we came here right?
>>

>>35505115

Good point. Don't want to leave empty handed.
>>
>>35505115
>>35505141

It was already recovered in the last thread, Janek was so pissed because he had decided we stole it.
>>
>>35505188
Sorry it's been a long time thanks for the reminder. Rereading the last thread. Not a lot we can do right now though. Return to the basement? Have a talk with Albrecht to see if he has any misgivings about what happened?
>>
>>35505295

You return to the old hospital's basement and prepare for the coming of the sun, tomorrow night will no doubt be busy.

You sleep and night comes again without incident, you should make your way to Janeks club shortly to recieve those who have accepted your offer.

However, what do you want of your children? Should they accompany you or do you have some other errand for them?

>Quick recap about the kids:

>Albrecht, a deserter from the French Foreign Legion before you turned him. He is disciplined, stoic and has been very reliable thus far. He will likely follow any commands to the letter. Its not clear how he feels about his new life.

>Yasmin, sultry Morrocan girl. Killed her own parents before you turned her. Is very loyal to you, but twisted & bloodthirsty. She has taken to undeath a little too well. An effective manipulator, but likely to get 'imaginative' with tasks that you set her.
>>
>>35505829
They was with us when Janek died so they should be with us now.
>>
>>35505829
Albrecht is coming with us and will act as our body guard or second for the night
Yasmin will to take what money is necessary and begin to gather informers so we can know what is going on in the city
>>
>>35505829
Get both children to find out the most powerful humans in the city and see if they can convince them to work for us
>>
>>35505956
Sounds like a plan.

>>35506007
Maybe after we get a bit more of a feel for the town. While I don't really think we need protection, I am worried about them stirring up trouble before we get acclimated. Actually, I say we take Yasmin with us to the club instead of Albrecht. He seems the more level headed of the two.
>>
>>35506074
>>35505829
Sounds good
>>
>>35506074
>not wanting economic and political power over your humans
>>
>>35506074
(I'm taking this to mean: Take Yasmin along, send Albrecht out to make some enquiries about who's who in town)

You tell them what you need of them and they obey without complaint, Albrecht heading off in the truck. Before he left you think you saw some wordless exchange pass between him and Yasmin, it seems they dislike being apart.

As you and Yasmin prepare to leave Domitius approaches and asks your permission to accompany you, expressing his excitement about seeing how you will handle the power vacuum left by Janek.

What do you say?
>>
>>35506360
I see no problem
>>
>>35506360
Originally we planned not to be a leader, but Yeah, bring him along, I suppose since we're in the sauce now we should go all out.
>>
>>35506360
Sure he seems like a pretty alright guy, all things considered.
>>
>>35506360
no strong opinion either way he can come if he wants.
>>
>>35506428
>>35506430
>bring him along.

The three of you quickly make your way back to the club, there are no men guarding the door this time, though a surprisingly orderly queue has formed. From their reaction, they were waiting for you.

It seems only proper that you take up Janek's old 'throne' though it has been blackened and charred from his demise, it is sturdy enough.

With Domitius one one side and Yasmin on the other, you bid the people waiting outside to enter.

You are suprised at the number, both human and vampire many owning various premises and concerns. All offering you money and property for your favour. Perhaps the most useful is Janek's old lawyer, a mortal man yet apparently happy to work for one such as you. He impresses upon you his ability to act as your agent in human society and to make you incredibly wealthy.

As they keep coming, you begin to be worried by the number of vampires who reside here. You don't know how Janek planned to deal with this, but there are too many here for the borough to sustain in the long term, yet they are all eager to pledge their loyalty.

Last of all comes a tall african man, dressed in a well cut suit and his cheeks decorated with precise tribal scars. You can safely assume this is the new mages ambassador. He carries with him what looks like a framed painting, wrapped in paper.

Whom do you speak to first?
>>
>>35506946
Talk with the people with problems first. We could kill them all in an instant but we should clear things up if we're gunna go big.
>>
>>35506946
Talk to the Mage see whats they are doing here and what abilities they have
>>
>>35506946
Might as well talk to the mage guy first. He represents a I imagine what is a significant power in this area.
>>
>>35506946
New Guy here
Random question: Do we have to feed on blood directly from people, or with control of a hospital could we give a whole new meaning to the word blood bank.
>>
>>35507170
Ah fuck, meant "what I imagine". Fucking caffeine crash.
>>
>>35507244
Don't think we have ever tried to use bagged blood. Might be something to look into in the future. Then again my recollection of the previous threads is kinda hazy. Need to give them another run through since Helios is back in the saddle.
>>
>>35507244
>>35507334
Actually, the scientists who woke us up would have probably used previously drawn blood to do so.
>>
>>35507244
It needs to be 'living' blood from the vein and furthermore a vampire bite is always fatal.
(The act of feeding is actually a form of human sacrifice to your patron.)

>>35507127
>>35507170
>Mage

The mage politely introduces himself and explains that he has been chosen from amongst his fellows to be the ambassador to the local undead.

He offers you the wrapped painting, stating that his masters offer it as a gift to you, as a gesture of their goodwill. It is apparently an ancient panel painting from the third century, preserved using occult means.

He adds that he has a request for you as well, though it is best discussed in private.

What do you do?
>>
>>35507428
Talk to a few of the petitioners before taking the Mage to a more private area.
>>
>>35507428
offer to talk to him as soon as we finish with the petitioners
>>
>>35507415
>>35507428

Oh never mind. That makes sense.

Tell him we would be happy to speak with him in private, but first we would like to hear if any of the other petitioners have something which would be of concern to us. Schedule at time and a place to meet with him later tonight if he does not wish to linger about.
>>
>>35507428

Whats the painting of?
>>
>>35507949
3 guesses and the first 2 don't count. Kaska.
>>
>>35507563
>>35507630
>>35507662

The petitioners as a whole are all after the same thing, you stand to gain alot of money and influence, as well as property. The only individual of any real interest is the lawyer.
>>
>>35508188
Lets lawyer up then, Helios.
>>
>>35508188
Talk to the lawyer then
>>
>>35508244
>>35508249

The lawyer identifies himself as an Elliot Chapman, he owns a law firm of reasonable size that made much of its money by running Janel's daytime operations. Buying property, laundering money through legitimate businesses and facilitating bribes amongst city officials whose duties might make a vampires life difficult.

He offers to do the same for you as he did for Janek.

Yasmin discreetly advises you to take up his offer, though not to trust him beyond your ability to pay him.

What do you do?
>>
>>35508534
Eh, money isn't a primary goal of ours but not having to live on the street is. Tell him we will likely be retaining his services in the near future, then get his contact info. We have a magic man to meet at any rate.
>>
>>35508534
How tedious, accept his deal, then get money and stuff to support our future operations
>>
>>35508534
accept and ask for a detailed list of operations and income as soon as possible
>>
>>35508534
Remember that people who offer us money for our loyalty are retarded, as we are a godlike, ancient, immortal vampire. That's human shit.
>>
>>35508655
>>35508658
>>35508707
>accept and ask for a detailed list of operations and income as soon as possible

He has taken the liberty of preparing a file containing all of Janeks concerns, the legal ownership obscured by administrative murk. As a gesture of good faith and to demonstrate his usefulness, he has already made preparations for Janek's holdings to become yours.

You take the folder, as well as Elliot's card. The portfolio of properties and investments is quite extensive. You'll have to peruse it later.

The mage, his request and his painting await.

What do you do?
>>
>>35508975
Let us speak to him in private.
>>
>>35508975
Lets talk with him then.
>>
>>35508975
no reason to keep him waiting
>>
>>35509006
>>35509062
>>35509098

To one side the mage tells you that his masters have taken notice of the expanding population of undead, a problem Janek would never acknowledge. He reminds you that more vampires means more bodies, week after week and sooner or later, something has to give.

The mages offer a solution, they request your permission to abduct 20 of Janeks former brood for....experimentation. Exactly what this experimentation is they will not reveal, suffice to say those taken shall never be seen or heard from again.

It will be taken as a great favour if you allow this and they will not forget it.

He also asks you to open the painting, the masters told him that it should be of particular value to you and is the only one of its kind.

What do you do?
>>
>>35509285
If they need a hand we can have our brood help them and ask that they only take the worst twenty
>>
>>35509285
Him not revealing the experiments is not acceptable. If he wants us to kill vampires, we can kill vampires. I would not have them researching surefire methods of killing us or something

We need more information
>>
>>35509285
"While I certainly agree that the undead population is a problem, my current situation is somewhat precarious. I can hardly act so arbitrarily so soon after seizing power. I intend to have some of my brood play the disloyal henchmen scheming for control. Once a sufficient number of them commit to overthrowing me, they shall learn that their assessment of the situation was in error, thus providing an object lesson to those who would plot to undermine me, and solving the population problem without undue resentment. Should you be willing to explain the purpose of your experiments, I can certainly see some of them provided to you."
>>
>>35509390
>>35509285
This, I'm against them just experimenting on Vampires as well.
>>
>>35509501
Ticking off a bunch of fledgling vampires who we know the capabilties of VS ticking of a cabal of mages whose capabilities remain unknown. In a previous thread, a mage in Europe gave a very strong hint that he knew who we were.

Better to keep the mages on side for now until we know more about them, we're gonna have to get rid of a few of the old Manhattan vamps anyhow.
>>
>>35509501
>>35509390
>more info

The ambassador speaks,

"The experiments are not something one not skilled in the art would be able to comprehend I'm told."

"As to their purpose, my masters only told me that they were 'preparing for the millenium'. which I assure you is likely as cryptic to me as it is to you."

"Now, all we require is your permission. We will handle the rest. Do we have it?"
>>
>>35509879
Tell me, Ambassador, you say it would be a great favor. What services is your order capable of performing? What do I gain by being on good terms with the Mages?

The ambassador closes his eyes for a moment, his eyes visibly moving beneath the lids.

"There are two weapons still in this world capable of doing you real harm, we can tell you where they are."
>>
>>35510094
What do you know of me, Ambassador?
>>
>>35510131
>What do you know of me, Ambassador?

>>
>>35510233

>>
>>35510262
>Even so, indulge me, what do you know?

He shrugs

"That you are older and stronger than Janek was and are to be offered more than he was."

"They tell me only what they deem neccessary, until a moment ago I knew nothing of these weapons, now I need to know, so I do."

Domitius approaches and whispers in your ear.

"This man's mind has been simplified, he has no will of his own. He is a puppet, a proxy."
>>
>>35510426
I feel stuck. We don't know shit about these guys, and they apparently know much about us.

Fuck it, lets just bargain.

Take 10 vampires, and only the most pathetic of Janek's stock. Like those doormen.
>>
>>35510426
"while i would very much like to know the location of these weapons, the answer is still no. they have done me no wrong, and thus deserve no ill action from me."

(We seem to be at a deadlock for a decision for now)
>Open the painting

With some care, you unwrap the painting. It's painted on a wooden panel and obviously very old. It has been encased in some kind of warm glass, presumably to preserve it.

The painting is of a vampire who appears to have been a young man, dressed in stained rags and furs, his face is lit by flames and his expression a subtle combination of both despair and hope, his open hand outstretched towards the viewer as if waiting for someone to take it.

It takes some time before you recognize the subject, you've never seen his reflection after all.

It's you.

>>
The way I see it, they are only asking us for permission to take them as a courtesy. They are clearly resourceful enough to capture the vampires themselves. So, if we decline they will just do it anyway, and now we arent on their good side. Whatever that would even mean.

So, might as well let them do it even if the community finds out and hates us, and even if they use it to start a war or something. As they would do it anyway if that is their plan.

Let them take some of Janek's thin blooded goons
>>
