Greetings, young feline! In a short time, you will find yourself wandering the world below. But first:

What is your name?

You will be cast onto a cruel world, Purrwin Schrödinger. Where a terrible darkness creeps. Where challenges are great and many.

But fear not. At least the gods have expressed a passing interest in your survival by not spawning you 50 feet above the ground.

You awake, falling. A starry expanse is all you see.

Turning over a bit, you realize the surface of the Earth is fast approaching. It may seem that the gods forgot all about their interest in your survival (actually, you're 40 feet above the ground--a good 10 feet below the altitude they promised not to spawn you from).

You must consider your options or you'll suffer injuries. Or maybe you won't suffer at all and your quest will end shortly--free burial included (gravestone not included).

What will you do?

Being a cat, falling is not something that would ordinarily kill you. Twisting, you right yourself, facing down onto the Earth.

Your body instinctively arranges itself into the perfect form for a hard landing. You're about to land.

You land hard. But your flexible frame absorbs the impact well, just as nature intended. You tumble for a distance. Fortunately, no bones feel out of place, and nothing seems broken or fractured. You stand up and find yourself in a prairie of tall grass.

Nearby is a road paved with stone.

Far down the road to the south, you see the shadowed silhouettes of towers and and buildings. At this distance, even your ability to see in the dark doesn't allow you to see much detail.

Far closer to you, to the east, is the edge of a forest.

(after 10 minutes, there was one more vote for the forest over the road.)

After dusting yourself off--keeping yourself neat as any cat would, you head away from the road towards the forest. Along the way, you check your pockets and find nothing. You also look up towards the stars and feel no returning gaze of any sort. It seems like you're on your own.

When you arrive at the entrance of the forest, you notice the growth of trees seem to be a little denser then a glance from the outside would suggest. Deeper in, the darkness seems to be rather thick. Not sure if it's trees blocking the way. Strange though, since you usually see in the dark just fine.

You're not going to let a forest scare you away from finding a quiet place to sleep. But you perk your ears and listen. Nothing. A forest this large usually has plenty of nocturnal life, even if it's a couple of owls. Oh well. You step into the forest.

You walk for a bit, keeping a close eye on the trees. A good place to hide for yourself as well as other things, you reason. It's getting darker, but you can still see. But the quiet has passed the point of tranquility and now you're starting to hear the beat of your own heart, and ringing in your ears. Suddenly, the quiet is broken.

Ahead, you see a dim light. It has trouble illuminating the darkness, but it's still visible. You can hear footfalls, and eventually, you make out a shadowy figure.

What will you do?

Your hairs stand on end. Alarm rushes over you. You need to hide.

You press yourself up against a tree and scratch your way to the top without a second thought.

You hear the footfalls coming closer. Looking down through the branches, there seems to be a person in a robe of some sort. He has a large hat and is carrying a long stick. He's also holding a lantern. Even this close, you can see it really doesn't help in penetrating the darkness.

You decide to stay hidden and watch for now. The thought of offering a greeting did cross your mind, but you remember that few friendly things walk the night.

But the robed individual stops walking. He makes his way to a tree across from your's. You can hear him utter a heavy sigh, almost a groan. He places his stick on the ground and sits. He takes off his hat, and the weak glow of the lantern reveals a wizened face and greying hair. An old man. In the forest at night. You wonder at this.

Feline instincts stir within. Especially from a perch, you feel the urge to pounce rising.

You begin to consider your options, but suddenly feel the rush of air as your body takes off without you realizing. You are heading straight for the old man. As you cut through the air, arms forward, the old man flinches, obviously startled. He sees, in the darkness, a pair of yellow eyes coming at him. He reaches for his stick, intending to defend himself.

But you're fast. There is still time to react. Or you can finish your pounce.

You follow through with your pounce. The old man only manages to lay a finger on his staff before coiling with the force of the collision. You knew he had no chance. He grunts and you hear a dull thud.

You check the old man's vitals. He still has a pulse, and he appears to be breathing normally. It looks like he's dazed. He's still groaning, but unable to move. Maybe in his younger days, he would have taken a blow to the head like a champ.

You take advantage of this situation by first picking up the old man's staff. For someone dressed like a wizard, his staff sure feels impotent. When he comes to, he won't be in any position to harm you with it in any case.

While you're waiting, you feel a sense of uneasiness creep onto you. You turn around and see four shadowy figures and four dim lights not too far away, not unlike the old man's lantern when you first saw him. Why didn't you hear their footfalls? They seem to be coming this way.

You shake the old man. He stirs a bit, only groaning more than before. You look towards the lights. They're still coming.

You bend down and try to drag the old man, but he's heavy and you don't get far at all. Leaving the lantern, you stand up, staff in hand, and prepare to high-tail it. The lights are rather close now, and the figures are shadowy still, but you can at least make out their forms clearly.

One of the figures seems oddly shaped. Who knows, wizards dress weird sometimes. You start running, and the old man finally says something.

"Don't leave me here..."

The old man is still calling out to you, but urgently now. Weak and frantic, as if he's trying to scream but has no strength left to do so. You look back and see, through the darkness and foliage, what was pursuing the old man. Now visible by the light of a weak lantern. It looks towards you.

You break into a run. You aren't even certain if you were spotted, but you have to leave. Now. You try to manipulate the staff. Concentrate, channel energy, whatever you can, to try and create a distraction and cover your escape. Hopefully, a huge flaming one. But nothing happens. The staff might as well be a tree branch. You think of the lantern, but its flame is so weak. Would have been nice to throw anyway, but you left it with the old man.

You head towards the direction from where you came. Fortunately, you didn't manage to venture in terribly deep. You keep running and don't look back.

Eventually, the density of trees decrease. You've been running for several minutes now, and it looks like you're approaching the part of the forest where you walked in.

You see daylight piercing through, illuminating the forest floor in a warm glow. Strange, since you remember the moon was out when you walked in. You couldn't have spent that long in the forest.

You walk out, and are looking into the field you landed in previously. The road is still there. In the distance, now well-lit by the day, a city of some sort is fully visible.

You keep a low profile, pushing your way through the tall grass in one direction for a while, then crawling the rest of the way in another until you reach the road. That should throw any pursuers off your tail.

You start following the road towards the city. You're hungry and tired. But at least you have a nice stick. Now you truly understand why old people find one so useful. The walk down the road is a long, but quiet one.

You reach the city gates. The walls tower over you, and a portcullis bars entry to town. In front are armored guards. More guards are pacing back and forth along the battlements above.

"No weapons allowed in town, boy." one of the guards states flatly.

"Well ok then." Then walk past him, into town.

He did say get lost, never said we couldn't enter town. Guard should be specific.
>>
>>35424008
Dude, what, we all pretty clearly voted for the diplomatic/bullshit the guards option.
>>
>>35424008
"Not now. I'm tired, I don't have any weapons, I just got through a dark forest, and I'm not in the mood to deal with anything else today. I just want to get into town."

>>35424026
We can't. There's a gate in the way.

Oops. Miscounted. Yeah, it's the diplomatic route. My bad, it's 3:30 and I should be asleep. Let's fix this first.
>>
Goddamn trolls, trying to make cute catboy into a murderer right off the bat without any reason. The difficulty setting is pure meta for now, guys.

The catboy gets dragged off to the dungeons, and then gets brutally tortured to the brink of insanity and dies horribly.

You explain to the guard that you've traveled for quite some time. You're weak and tired from your journey and couldn't possibly fight even if this stick can be counted as a weapon.

The guard sees the fatigue on your face, and evidence of struggle in your hair and clothes. He grunts and waves his hand to a guard posted on the battlements.

The portcullis creaks and rattles, rising slowly. You duck through the moment it's high enough for you.

You've made it to town. For now, you are safe. You'll find food and a place to sleep. After all, you've survived quite an ordeal and even got a stick out of it.

The portcullis slowly closes behind you as you make your way further into town. The opportunities are here, you feel it. What you've been through should dwarf all the challenges to come. Surely.

Thanks for playing, /tg/. It was fun. Maybe we'll go again some other day.

For now, good-bye.

People went retarded over dice rolls for some reason.
>>
>>35424367
I have no idea why people went so retarded over that.
>>
>>35424337
And because we decided to tackle him and accidentally knocked him out, even though there were more votes toward going for his staff.
>>
>>35424465

Both were idiotic votes. There was no reason to do either. He could have been an ally in a land of danger.

But no, faggots were freaking out over the difficulty setting and trolling with murderhobo.
>>
>>35424337
It's what is called a survival instinct. I hold no remorse for running, but knocking him out was rather foolish.
Ah well, hopefully no unprompted die-rolls in the next one.
