"Hey, Nila!" Tuulikki's protruding lock of hair waves along with her hand; a stout man with a large, square jaw stands with his arms crossed behind her.

"Great, more little girls..." You hear him mutter under his breath. "Hey, Tuutles!" he yells at the fairy. "Don't just go ignoring me and pay me for the damn wall you just smacked a hole into bouncing around like that!"

"DON'T CALL ME TUUTLE'S YA OLD FART!" The fairy yells, swinging around. "And the wall's gettin' fixed! Geez! Just give me a sec to talk ta my friend here!"

The man - probably the owner of the place - throws his arms up with a huff and walks away mumbling something about adventurers and entitlement.

"I certainly hope you aren't expecting me to fix that wall for you, Tuulikki." You say, eying the wooden dent on the far side of the hostel. At least it wasn't letting rain in.

"Nah, nah. It's cool. I'll fix it in a bit." Tuulikki turns to Amy. "So squirt! I never really got yer name."

"Amala Lusseel! But call me Amy!" Amy twirls around - her clothes fluttering with the movement. "Do you like my outfit? Nila gave it to me!"

Tuulikki nods her head up-and-down and chuckles. "Yeah, s'cute, but why didn'tya pick one of those frilly things I know Nila's got hidin' away? Not like I'd be caught dead in somethin' like that but you seem the dressin' up type."

"She said I needed something 'travel-worthy'."

"Ahh, I get what ya mean. Dresses ain't got much in the movin' around doin' things department, for sure. That's why I always dress practically!"

"Your pants poof out like some kind of yellow muffin and your stomach's completely exposed." You say, finding a seat at a table. You prop your head up with your elbow and smirk. "And let's not forget all those bows around your waist."

"Hey!" Tuulikki puffs. "This is fashion!"

"Right, right. The very height of it, I'm sure." You wave the conversation off. "On to more important things, Tuuli. I've some questions to ask you."

"Yeah? Shoot, then. This's about lil' Amy over here, right? You don't hang around with anyone unless yer doin' work for Asra. What mess did she get inta by the way?"

"Kidnapping." You reply; Amy plays with her fingers and stares down as she sits at the table with you. "I'd suspect something political for a motive considering her parents but they dragged her literally to the other side of the world. Doesn't make much sense."

"Maybe they're takin' her to someone specific or somethin'?" Tuulikki wiggles into a comfortable position on your shoulder and you stiffen. Why did every fairy have to have that habit? "Don't know who the heck they'd be lookin' fer in Oemis, though."

"Is there at least any place in Oemis I could go looking for them?" You ask. "As much as I enjoy speculation I'd prefer a straight answer from them."

Tuulikki shrugs. "There's this old, big storehouse that's all abandoned somewhere outside the city. Only place I can think of where they could really hide, but some big cat spirit with two tails owns the place. Maybe it's Magus let them stay there?"

"A cat?" Amy perks up. "If it's a cat I know why it's there!" she raises her hand up like a student getting the attention of a teacher.

"Hmm?" You smile at her enthusiasm. "And why is that, Amy?"

Amy beams. "It's 'cause cats are animals that umm...'exist between wilderness and civilization' is what one of my books said, I think! I think that means they aren't tamed like dogs or something but doesn't that sound just like an old house in the woods too?"

>con't
>>
>>35400201
"An excellent deduction," you reply. "Cat spirits usually do prefer places like abandoned buildings."

"Yer a pretty smart one, aren't ya, Amy?" Tuulikki laughs.

Amy grins at your and Tuuli's praise, showing off her teeth and dimples.

>It's starting to get late and it's still raining. Check it out in the morning.

You're making a big assumption there.
>>
Going to leave the vote open for a little longer to see if anyone else trickles in. 5-10 more minutes.
>>
>>35400301
But how will we have a refined discussion over tea about the optimal number of frills on a dress if the cat-spirit isn't a proper lady like our perfect selves?
>>35400332
4chan was kinda dead for a while. Spam that twitter and get people's attention!
>>
Alright. Steaming on ahead then. Going to confront the bad guys it is.
>>
So I need to know: How'd you come up with the name for the fairy? Judging by Tuulikki's abilities, you certainly know what her name means.
>>
>>35400565
Short answer: I use a lot of Finnish names for this setting, especially for fairies.

Long answer: Fae are spirits that exist between man and nature. For an example, a regular nature spirit in a rosebush would be concerned with making sure the roses grow, get enough water and sun, etc. because it's the literal spirit of a rose. A Fae born from a rose, however, would be more interested in the relationship of a human who plucks one of the roses to give to a crush because it's a spirit of what the rose represents - love.

Tuulikki was born from wind. Specifically, the wind at your backs on in the sails of a ship. A literal spirit of adventure.
>>
>>35400615
Breddy cool. Carry on.

>>35400615
This setting is kawaii as fuck. Don't you dare smother it in grimderp.
>>
>>35400664

"Hey, Amy."

"Yes Nila?" Amy responds, bobbing up-and-down her seat - still basking in the earlier compliments.

"Can you stay here with Tuulikki for me while I go investigate?" you ask, resting a hand on her arms. You nudge your shoulder to get the tiny girl's attention. "That'll be fine with you, right?"

"Ahhh? Yeah, yeah. Sure!" Tuulikki nods, jumping from your shoulder to Amy's. "But the place is kinda out there ya know? It's gonna be night by the time you get there."

"That suits me just fine," you say, raising from your seat and adjusting your hat. "I'm a 'night child' after all. That's when my powers work the best. Now if you'll excuse me I've got work to d-"

You feel a small tug on your robes - Amy's fingers rubbing at the clutched fabric. "Amy, what is it?"

"I want to come with you..."

You sigh, drooping your shoulders - staff in your hand tapping the floor. "I'll be back before morning, Amy. Stay with Tuulikki. I'm sure she can play you a song or tell you a story or something."

"But I-" You raise your hand up to stop her. "It's dangerous, Amy. A giant cat spirit, probably also a Magus, and that man with the axe we saw earlier if it's the right place; not a place a little girl should go."

Amy tosses up her arms. "But you're a little girl too!"

I'M THRE-" You huff, grabbing a hold of your twintails and pulling. You sigh. "I'm different than you, though, Amy. I'm a Magus with a lot of power."

"But I've got powers from Iyja and Yyja and my Magus ancestor!" Amy crosses her arms. "I'm not just some little girl either!"

You raise your eyebrow. "I don't see you carrying any kind of ancestral totem. More importantly, have you even learned to access those powers yet?"

Amy's face tightens - silent. Tuuliki bursts into laughter - almost falling off Amy's shoulder.

You rub your temples. "Just stay here, okay?"

Amy turns away, huffing.

"I'll take that as implicit agreement. Take care of her, Tuulikki."

"Roger that!"

You quickly get directions to the place from the owner of the hostel - in a better mood now that Tuulikki seems to be working on the wall as Amy watches - and head out the door. The wind and rain buffets you - the screeches and hisses of Oemis and Ocmus roaring above you.

Thanks.

Ocmus is also connected to a river and a lake nearby. He slithers through the rive and sleeps curled up in the lake. Occasionally he flies through the sky and the wind from Oemis's wings collects the moisture he emits into the clouds. The reason Oemis is the main deity of the city is because sometimes Ocmus would just slither right through fucking town and flood everything and he keeps that from happening.

You channel the spirit of your staff into your cloak - black wings and blacker wind. The magic snaps and howls as it collides with the surrounding air, pushing away the winds of Oemis. You take flight, staying near the roofs of buildings - feet almost scraping the wood and brick. You keep an eye on the battle above - wary.

You hear the hissing crack before you see it - a jagged tail of violet flares from above you. You shift the wings of your cloak into scaled claws and grab a hold of the bolt - body spinning in a sideways flip as you use it to swing yourself forward and away. You shift back to the wings again and soar higher into the atmosphere - the chilly rain smacking against your face. You plummet down once you nearly touch the clouds - darting towards your destination. You're out of the two's range now.

You slow as you reach your destination - a large storehouse covered in moss and vines near Ocmus river. You notice the dismantled foundation of what appears to be a windmill nearby. This place must have been for storing milled rice or grain.

Your feet touch down on it's roof - cloak flapping slowly to soften your descent. The wood feels oddly soft - less like a wet, decaying roof and more like a thick lawn. The moss even makes it look like one too.

You hear a low rumbling sound mixed with the wind and thunder around you. Purring. It reminds you of the beginning tremors of an earthquake.

And thanks to site posting being dead for a while, I had enough time after the other quests I was following today to have dinner.
Truly, GMT+10 is the greatest of all timezones except when people start late morning to early afternoon America time and I'm still sleeping off yesterday's run.

Well... I didn't mean literal middle of the day. It's soon 2PM here, but I know your pain. Many of QMs I follow start their quests at perfectly reasonable times on US standards - not so much for myself.

Still, I at least get to read good stuff.

You eye your staff. A dragon seems like overkill for a simple spy but it's the only tool you have on you for the moment.

You channel Asra's power - the muffled giggles of a child sneaking through the shadows of an alley - and flow the energy out of you, coalescing it into a black mass by your feet. You raise your staff, chanting an inscription into the energy. Tiny claws and scales take shape from the shadows - the small wings of the dragon fluttering as it shakes itself awake. It's wide eyes dart around the area before eventually settling on you - it's mouth shaped into a long faux-grin.

You breathe in deep and close your eyes, syncing your senses with the creature. When you open them again you see your own face high above you - eyes closed and breathing in a slow meditative rhythm. You test your wings, floating up off the ground with a muffled gust.

Take it easy. Breathe. Calm down.
Don't rush it.
>>
>>35402427
Calm yourself and remember that you're writing for an eager audience who just wants to see some cute and funny shit. They don't particularly care about any of the details you're obsessing over when you write and they aren't going to nitpick your exact choice of words in that sentence. You know which sentence I'm talking about. So just go with the first thing that pops in your head because it isn't bad at all.

At least that thought is what helps me get my fingers moving!
>>

Migraines? Probably better to just call the session and try to run another time, in that case.

>I either learn to operate under these conditions or just live a life where I accomplish nothing at all.
Well gee Callow, that all-or-nothing attitude probably won't help you much. Remember, we're all just here to have fun with you, that's all. Nothing's at stake for you with us. So just try to have fun too and we'll all have fun!
>>
>>35402677
Sorry, probably worded that wrong. What I meant was more that this kind of thing is a constant everyday occurrence and taking a break because of it like one would because of a migraine would be the same as just staying in bed all day everyday for the rest of my life, ya know?
>>
>>35402593
Well, storywriting is a pretty sensitive process. If you're suffering, it'll show. Plenty of QMs just flake out if they're not feeling up to writing instead of forcing out stuff they're not happy with, and you shouldn't beat yourself up for doing the same.
At least not until you start doing it over and over again.
>>
>>35402713
Don't worry about that either!

I don't know a thing about psychology, but I'm pretty sure worrying never helped anyone. Pick for yourself what you want to do because you know yourself better than anyone else, just promise to try to have fun because that's all that's important here!
>>
You find a small hole where the roof meets the wall and crawl your way through it, tucking wings close to your body and scraping aside the nests of various rodents. You don't find any actual rats, though.

You pop out the other side and onto the rafters, suddenly assaulted by the smell of rusted fish-oil lamps and decaying old books - the face of a large cat directly in front of you; the red streaks through it's brown fur remind you of fire engulfing a cottage. It's sleeping - one of it's great paws hanging over the side of the moss-covered rafter - but you can tell by the way it flicks it's nose and tail that it's probably caught your scent.

"Are you sure that thing's not going to eat us?" You hear someone say. You recognize the voice as the gruff axe-wielder from before. "Because that's what they freaking do. Eat people so they can take their form like changing into some kind of creepy costume."

"Relax~" Someone else says. You can't see her from around the cat's face but judging by the smugness in her voice she at least -thinks- she's important. "Issoi there's harmless; I made sure of it. As long as she keeps eating my offerings she'll be completely docile."

Must be the Magus then; you try peeking over the edge to get a look at her but a yowling hiss stops you dead in your tracks. Glowing green eyes stare down at your tiny form - a large paw raised above it's head.

Wooden splinter's scatter in the air as you dart away to the side - the sound of several men screaming from down below. Issoi leaps to another rafter, swiping at you as she goes. The wooden beams crack and collapse under it's and you feel the floor beneath your feet - your real feet in your body above - crumple and sink downwards.

>con't
>>
>>35402816
You snap your sense's back - eyes fluttering open as your summon dissipates. Your body plummets - twintails flickering above your head - as the floor completely gives away. You can see the man with the axe below you, as well as a woman clad in robes colored and patterned after Issoi's fur - her eyes widening in surprise.

Well! You suppose this works too.

>>35403051
I made a pastebin for the magic system at the top of the thread. It's at least the logic I'm following while making up spells so give it a look or just suggest stuff and I'll find a way to make it work if possible.
>>
>>35403085
About that pastebin, and PLEASE don't stop to answer this now, it can wait until you're done writing.

I think I mostly understand the pastebin as written, but it seems like it's very general and explaining how your universe works yet I'm left at a loss about how to actually apply this.

I think it'd be easier to understand with examples of things Nila (we're playing Nila so Nila is easiest to relate to) can do showing exactly which objects and methods she uses to produce a given effect. Going through all of the steps like that should make it much easier to understand how the actual system works and more importantly how to work the system.

Just two, maybe even a single example would be extremely helpful if you could provide that. But please don't do that now, it's not important that I understand it right now. Just do it between threads when you have time.

Rolled 6, 3, 6, 7, 6, 1, 10, 10 = 49 (8d10)

"NIIIIILA KICK!"

The buff man sputters as the sole of your shoe indents into his face - axe flying out of his hands, falling over.

"AHAHAHAHAHA." You jump off his face and into the air. "Too rich! Too rich! Are those muscles for nothing? Can't even take a hit from a little girl!"

"I don't think you have the time to be bragging!"

"Hmm?" you turn your head and you see the long-sleeves of the Magus's robes swinging right at your face - sharpened like an axe-blade. You cloak wraps around you and hardens with black scales - the blow smacking you to the other side of the room and knocking your staff out of your hands. You hear a low growl and look behind you to see Issoi - it's fangs showing.

"Hmmmmmmmmm."

You amass energy and reach out to the inscriptions in your staff. The bone snaps and crackles, expanding and splitting into a full draconic skeleton - rotten, black leather pulled tight across it's wings. With a burst of shadowy air you swap places with it - the giant mass slamming into Issoi. It's teeth clatter together with an echoing cackle - empty eye-sockets glowing.

"MEEEOOORRRWWLLLL."

The large cat leaps away from the beast - it's fur bristled and tail between the legs. The two monsters chase each-other around the storehouse - men screaming and dropping their weapons.

"I don't brag. I'm just that great." You say, appearing behind the Magus where your staff just was. Your hat laughs, mouth open wide as a blue flare collects inside it's gaping chasm. The woman's eyes widen.

A flaming beam fires out of the hat, knocking the woman back. Her robes seem to absorb the damage - it's surface wet and thick like the moss all over the house. She tosses the robe off as part of it catches aflame.

>>35403521
Everything she's done so far has been mostly using the dragon bone staff as a focus to add qualities of a dragon to her clothing. Also summoning an entire working dragon by putting all of it's qualities into a mass of energy she summoned.

As for the spookyness, that has to do with the energy source: Asra. It runs all her spells through a spook filter.

So the hat with the mouth is taking the dragon's mouth by tapping into the staff and swapping it into her hat. Same with he wings on her cloak.

So the general gist is we can use the staff to apply dragon-related properties to our attire (or ourself?) or just energy conjured up because magus bitches. Gotcha. Do we have any other foci hidden away?
>>
>>35403931
I decided to Samus all your stuff so you guys can collect your own foci. Nila is kind of OP so I didn't want her running around with everything and giving you guys some "customization" seemed like a good idea.

So just suggest what kind of foci you'd like. Taking something from this cat is possible, for instance.
>>
>>35403585
Lets hope the dragon is fine with that.

Operation Neko-Nila is a go. Catgirls, ho!

Like the twin tails? Seems kind of morbid, though. Then again, we can take the eyes for true "cat's eyes"...
>>
>>35403974
You're only channeling the physical aspect of it's soul. Which is kind of a mystical way to say genetics if you want to look at it that way. The immaterial, mental aspect is already in the after-life.

>>35404036
You don't have to dismember it if you don't want to. Something small would do. Also it's kind of immortal anyway since it's soul is tied to this location. It just sort of respawns if you kill it, though it's death gives other nature deities and the area a chance to absorb some of it's domain for themselves.

That's a big reason why Oemis and Ocmus still fight.
>>
The Magus glares at you - her short black hair turning a rusted red as a pair of feline ears grow out of the top of her skull. She growls, baring her cat-like teeth.

"Oh? You seem to be amassing quite a lot of energy from the little kitty over there," you remark, picking up an empty chair and sitting down on it. You cross your legs and make sure your shadow faces in front of you. "Don't go hurting yourself on account of me, though."

"Why you insufferable little- We're both Magi here so don't you dare look down on me!"

"Oh please." You lean forward and rest your head in you hand - propping yourself up by the elbow. "Some two-bit Magus trying to kidnap kids isn't even worth the effort to look down on."

The lady screams - something between hiss and a roar - and charges at you. She flings her hands above her head - claws ready to swipe.

You smirk - black wispy claws bursting from your shadow and pushing the woman up in the air. They tighten around her waist, knocking the breath out of her.

"That's another down." You recline back into your seat and tilt your head behind you - the cat's still trashing the place running from your dragon.

"Now it's time to deal with that."

I just finished the pastebin(good stuff)

Cat's eye/s sounds perfect for enchanting Nila with Nightvision. For converting into a proper fetish/charm, we can enchant it with the mineral properties of the Cat's eye rock to preserve it. Shouldn't be too hard to buy.

As for other stuff, I'll need some time to think about it. If Nila needs to stick to the "lost child" motif, then new stuff needs to match that idea.

Singing, Moon, brooms?

>>35404161
Can we magic up a yarnball? Nah, doesn't really fit with dragons. It's kind of a stretch to make a dragon-mouse, too. We don't happen to have a bottle of milk just waiting to be teleported in, do we? Or catnip?

You hum to yourself, ignoring the crashes and screams around you. "Now let's see here," you say to yourself, rummaging through the upturned crates in the storehouse. "That Magus was talking about feeding it offerings so there must be something around here." You turn up to the captured Magus. "Hey miss, where do you keep your cat food!?"

"Screw you!"

You shrug and turn back to searching. "Ah! Here it is!"

You pull out a large fish - it looks imported from some northern sea. "Okay, now all I gotta do is feed this to Issoi over there and- wait-a-sec." You eye the fish - something tickling at your spiritual senses.

You probe at the fish. "There's some kind of tranquillizing effect added to this." You scrunch your nose. "AND a syncing inscription!" You try to determine what it syncs to and find it leads to the Magus and her robe.

This woman isn't even properly worshipping her deity! She's drugging it to make it easier to draw power from! Who takes advantage of a weaker deity like that?

You don't GET it, anon. Issoi - as a cat that exists between the wild and the civilized - is a deity that represents nature chipping away at human creations. The moss covering the building, the smell of rust and decaying old books, the fur pattern invoking flames engulfing a house - it's all a thematic representation of that.

Not writing that her Magus's axe was rusted was blatantly ignoring all that!

Nah, it's no big deal. Also, writing.
>>
>>35404684

You huff - hands on your hips. You glare at the Magus and she at least as the decency to appear sheepish. Well, at least you don't have to worry about her being able to muster any energy to attack you once you've sorted this out. The un-pious fool.

You seep your energy into the fish and out again, washing away all the enchantments. There. Quick and simple. Now to just feed it to Issoi and call it a day.

"AUUUUUGGGGHHHH!"

"Oh please." You turn around. "What possible use is screaming no- Oh." Issoi seemed to conquer her fears - you note - eying the defeated skeleton in the corner, slowly shifting back into a staff. The large cat stands over the Magus - a glaze in her eyes seeming to fade as she glares at her "follower." The tranquilizer must be wearing off.

"Hmmmm," you muse, eying the fish and then the Magus - a devious idea forming. Nah, it would be fun but there's not much of a point. You bring your fingers in your mouth and whistle - Issoi's head shifting in your direction.

"I've got your offering right over here, kitty! Ignore that lady; she's too bony!"

The cat licks her lips and walks over - her large paws shaking the ground. She sniffs the fish suspiciously and licks at it a few times. Finally she bites into it, purring in that loud rumble as she nibbles and swallows the meat.

"There, there," you soothe, patting the creature's fur; it lets out a soft, satisfied mewl.

Alrighty.

I enjoy your quest a lot. Your writing's good and you've improved regarding "your" and "you're". It's obvious that you've put a lot of thought into how magic works and I really appreicate that, it will probably lead to interesting results at one point or another when some anon has a brilliant idea for how to do something incredibly silly. I particularly like the mix of a large helping of happy-go-lucky with some occasional feels.

This is already shaping up to be my new favourite quest now that OWQ is over.
