Let's see... news.

Don't really have any news, to be honest. I'm sure I'll think of something I should have said later though, hahahaha.

++

The storms earlier in the week really cleaned out the sky; the stars are gorgeous out here. It's left the night air a bit chilly in it's wake, but cold air is nothing but good for you. It's one of the nice breaks you've caught recently.

Your schedule sucks- you and Merlin have had to adopt vampire hours, sitting alert every night , waiting for some mysterious soviet night bombers to come into your AOR. You've been scrambled twice already on transient contacts, only to find nothing anywhere near the contact point. It's getting irritating.

Of course, it was far more irritating when it became apparent they'd slipped past the radar net- you'd been vectored to a point better than a hundred miles away from their targets. By the time you'd showed up, they were long gone.

The one upside is that you and Merlin are the only ones having to keep the schedule- your wingmates rotate through the Twins, Katya, and Wendy, who's displayed the ability to fly extremely well using issued NODs- a rare skill among witches, most of whom prefer to leave nighttime to specialist night witches or steelwings.

With the Twins and Katya already having sat their turns this week, it's Wendy on the tarmac next to you, sitting on her striker rack, an oversized jacket around her, her knees tucked up into her chest to hide beneath it. You and Merlin are both in the cockpit, an APU hooked to the fighter to provide basic power for heating and minimum instruments, ready for a cold start on a hurried warning from the tower.

>>
You suppose you can't complain too much- the rest of the squadron has been taking almost constant combat missions, with Ice adding another three kills to her records, leading the group. Slider's got the next most with one- and even with zero, you're hardly unusual. The once mighty soviet air force has taken a real beating in the region, it's numbers badly depleted. These night raiders are almost the last of their real effective forces, and represent what they're mostly limited to- fast, small raids on a few important targets.

The problem that has the guys on the ground howling is the target choices the Soviets are making. Fuel depots. Even the night CAP has been useless, with AWACS getting, at best, intermittent contact as the soviets come in right on the deck. Even witches haven't been able to do anything- night witches tend to lose them in the weeds, and witches with talent for speed can't operate at night, especially not right down in the mud like that.

Without spreading out their limited air offensive, they've managed to slow the advance to a crawl- there's just not enough fuel at the front for the allied army, and these night bombers are damn good. Good enough the scuttlebutt says they're a group of specially selected and trained night witches flying modified Su-34s. They come in fast, on the deck, and they're in and out before anyone knows they're there, practically. So far, nobody's managed a successful intercept.

Then again, you haven't gotten a crack at them yet either.

“Sir Bishop, can I ask you something?” Wendy asks, her voice carrying across the short distance from her rack through to your open cockpit.

You look over at her- she doesn't look worried about anything, which is a relief, just kind of concerned- which you figured from the tone in her voice.

[] Sure, shoot.
>>
[x] Sure, shoot.

You settle your head back against the under padded ejection seat and nod. “Sure, shoot.”

“Well-” She pauses. “I've two questions, if that's ok.”

“It's fine, we've got nothing but time right now.” You respond, trying to get comfortable. With your helmet off, that's really not going to be possible- the ejection seat isn't exactly the most ergonomic thing ever, the canvas and thin padding not exactly designed with pilot comfort in mind. You make a note to talk to someone about that.

“I'm sorry if you're not the right person, but it seems as if everyone else does this sort of thing with you, so-”

“Wendy, it's alright!” You exclaim, chuckling. “What's bothering you?”

“Oh- well, I wasn't sure if I really belonged here.” She says, sounding kind of downcast. “You've all been wonderful, certainly more than I've ever had before, and more than I deserve, but you're all expected to be the best, and I've not even any flight time I didn't have to sneak. The last time I was able to fire Tessa- I mean, before the matron London assigned me to miss Kazanski was last year. I'm not carrier qualified and these-” She indicates her tornados, their rebuild completed almost the day you left Barin- “Aren't the same quality as anyone else's. If I'm being honest, I should accept the offer to use new strikers, but...” You look over in time to see her shrug, helplessly.

1/2
>>
“So you're worried you're not good enough?” You ask, trying to be gentle.

She nods. “I- yes. I'm aware you've a reputation for helping people, and I'm sure my situation looked bad enough you'd help me, even if it would have hurt the squadron overall.” She looks over. “No one has complained, and everyone has been nothing but friendly and nice, but-”

You nod. “Maybe that's why I wanted to get you transferred initially, but I'm not the only one you've impressed.” You say.

“You're not?” Wendy asks, sounding slightly better.

“Not at all. You shoot as good as the best of the rest of them, your skill as a flier, the basic stuff you need to know, is better than perfect, or nearly that, and you've kept training most of them have forgotten. Like now, for example.” You supply, pointing at the NODs attached to her HUD piece. “Most of them can't fly like that, and leave nights to us pilots and the night witches. But here you are, right? Just by you being here, it means that Katya and the twins don't have to be up overnight with Merlin and me every other night, and that counts for a lot.”

“Plus,” Merlin adds from the back, “You don't have to unlearn any bad habits in order to learn ours.”

You grin. “Yeah, what Merlin said. You don't have to learn anything differently than how your old unit did things, because your old unit never taught you. Stupid of them, really.”

You see her nodding, agreeing with what you've said- maybe because she believes it, maybe because she wants it to be true and isn't going to question it. Either way works for you for now.

“So what was your second question?” You ask.

She hesitates. “Well, I-” she pauses again, then nods to herself. “I've never been in combat, not really, anyway. Training when I was in the academy, but nothing since then, and even that was routine, by the book. I- I was wondering what it's like?”

“What a dogfight's like?” You ask.

“Dogfights, ground attacks, all of it. Combat.” She says. “I've no idea, and I’m kind of scared, really.”

You're about to answer when Merlin speaks over you. “Frank, ops is on one. Looks like someone has something.”

You put your helmet on, connecting the umbilical while Merlin runs through the restart checklists- truncated ones, you've already done a lot of the steps, all there really is to do is fire up the turbines and detach from the APU.

“ops, tiger.” You say over the tower frequency, using your flight's briefed callsign.

“Tiger flight, we've got a group of bogies to the north being painted by AWACS, a witch, and ground radar. We need you to go check it out. They're low and fast, pushing south, towards the outskirts of Warsaw. AWACS will take over once you're airborne.”

“Tiger flight copies, rolling.” You announce, letting Merlin light the fires while Wendy drops into her strikers, her L85 strapped across her chest. She looks over at you, maybe still after an answer.

[x] It's the easiest thing in the world, my friend. Follow my lead and keep 'em off my back, ok?

You tap the side of your helmet, signaling that she needs to be on the flight radio- she nods and shoots you a thumbs up, clicking her mic at the same time.

“It's the easiest thing in the world, my friend. Follow my lead and keep 'em off my back, ok?”

She nods, clicking her mic again- a good wingmate speaks as little as possible, and that's been drilled into her.

She still lines up on the runway first- jetwash is a concern more for her than for you, your big turbofans more than able to deal with ingesting the relatively tiny amount of jetwash a striker puts out without the slightest hiccup. You begin your takeoff roll as she lifts off the runway, the roar of your jets drowning out everything else for a second.

Wendy slides into place off to the right of your fighter- Witches typically stick closer to their fighters in formation, needing less time and distance to react and maneuver. You spare one brief glance out the canopy at her- she looks determined.

Merlin gets the vector, putting you on a more or less northeastern heading for Olsztyn- just recently taken by joint force north, made up mostly of Brits and Germans. With any luck, their mobile AA assets will be able to help, but you kind of doubt it- maybe ground radar, but no missiles.

“Tiger, we're losing the contacts.” the AWACS warns. “Last known vector is one seven five, airspeed one thousand knots. Cherubs eight, maybe.”

“Maybe.” Merlin mocks privately to you. “Frank, want me to find them? They'd be in range with last known heading and position thunderhead gave us. I can data link with every radar site in theater too, there's no way they can hide from us.”

[] Do it. I want to find these guys before they do anymore damage.

>>
>>35374349
Wait so what about your other stuff? Because your stories have turned some of the most unlikable characters in the plot into believable personalities that one can really relate to. Whether or not your stories are canon makes a big impact on my view of them.
>>
>>35374429
Different writer here, that process is actually very important in order to remove bias and look at it in a fresh perspective.
>>
>>35373576
I've never even looked at this quest before, but I just noticed that this character apparently serves on the CV-60 Saratoga. My dad operated the steam catapults on that carrier in the late 80's.

The current Ogawa story I'm working on

These are, afaik, canon.

The other assorted one shots I'm not so sure about. A lot of 'em were done in a hurry, spur of the moment kinds of things.

The 'Needs' stories are non-canon across the board, but I did write them with their personalities in mind.
>>
[x] Do it. I want to find these guys before they do anymore damage.

“Do it.” You order. “I want these guys before they do any more damage.”

Merlin doesn't respond, instead busying herself building a massive composite radar image of the region from every available radar source, and one AWACS witch up on night patrol.

Even with the sudden, massive flow of data, the contacts are spotty- until Merlin adds your own set. Keeping it in scan, and without locking them up to give you away, she's able to get all four- and transients on several more.

She's quiet in the back as you close the distance, though, as the range counts down, she does speak up once. “Frank? Don't try to use the AMRAAMS. They're too low and I'm having to work to keep them on the radar. It's like it wants to forget they're there. I don't think AMRAAMS could track that low, and if I tried to guide them, I'd lose the radar picture.”

You're getting close enough now to engage with AMRAAMs though- and the alternative is your massive stock of Agile IIIs. While you're not at all worried about the shot- even if you miss, it'll force them off their heading and hopefully delay them some, giving you more time to work- IR seeking missiles, like the Agiles, would give no warning, and you don't think they know you're here yet. The surprise could mean getting enough of them to shut the attacks down for good.

[] We'll use the AMRAAMs, I'd rather slow them down and force them to go defensive.
[] We've got plenty of Agiles for this, let's not give them a chance to defend themselves right away.

One that comes to mind was the time they were ashore somewhere - Greece I think - and they were drinking as sailors tend to do. Anyway, one of his friends was like "I'm gonna go hit on that girl over there." and my dad was like "I dunno, man. I think that's a dude."

The abridged version is his friend punched a transvestite in the throat and they had to drunkenly run back to the ship as they were being chased by a dozen angry trannies.

Merlin said no AMRAAMS, so no AMRAAMS.
>>

It's not a problem of writers block or anything, but coming at it looking for all the flaws. If you do it too soon, you still see it as you had intended, and thus correct. You have to get out of that in order to fix it. In my experience, the best way to completely eradicate it is looking at it on a different medium. After a short break, of course.

Used to be a desk pilot, scheduling training for reservist soldiers coming in for retraining.

[] We've got plenty of Agiles for this, let's not give them a chance to defend themselves right away.

You elect against using the AMRAAMS, instead closing in on the bogies from above and behind- hopefully undetected so far.

“Frank, we've got a problem.” Merlin warns, frowning. “Those contacts aren't single aircraft, it looks like groups of three. So there's not four bogies-”

“There's twelve. We've still go this.” You say, trying to acquire them visually.

Wendy spots them first- twelve aircraft, sure as shit, flying impossibly close, airshow formation style, low and fast. At least mach 1.5, probably a hair faster, their afterburners glowing in the night.

“There. Tally ho, twelve bandits. One o clock low, heading one seven five. Tiger flight is engaging.” you call, diving into them, Agiles selected.

The twelve fighters- Fullbacks, again, Su-34s, so the rumors were right about that, don't react until you're almost slotted in for your first missile shot- and they break, pouring on the coals and splitting into three groups. Merlin is broadcasting a general air defense warning- with their location pegged like that, there's almost no way they'll pull this off.

Still, each group breaks onto a southerly heading- but other than speeding up and dipping even lower, they don't make any defensive moves.

[] Order Wendy to engage them, they're trying to set us up. We'll pull overwatch.
[] Have Wendy break to engage another group- even if it is a setup, we've gotta get those bombers!

[x] We'll continue to engage, order Wendy to give us over watch.

“Wendy, they're trying to bait us. Keep a watch out for bandits, ok?”

Wendy clicks her mic in response, separating about a hundred feet laterally and up, almost textbook spread to cover you.

The four fullbacks of this group are really pouring it on- enough that Wendy is struggling to keep up. Still you're able to close when you get the warning from her. “Tiger one there's a bandit on your left! He's firing!”

The vampire blasts through the space just vacated by you, snapping around in a hard turn. It's fuselage is a midnight black with deep crimson trim- and one, baleful red star on the vertical stabilizer.

And it's got three friends.

You watch as a gaggle of witches separate from the fighters, dropping away with violet plumes dancing from the exhausts of their strikers.- parasitic witches aren't unheard of, but that ride can't have been fun.

You're actually glad it's you- you're pretty sure that'd have killed any other pilot.

“Tally ho! Four steelwings, eight sparkles! Get some fighters up here!” You bellow over the GUARD net, slamming the wyvern into the merge with the four soviet jets.

“Sir Bishop?” Wendy sounds- well, scared. You're outnumbered, and even with a general air defense alert up, those bombers might still get through- and there's no way you're going to ignore four vampires and eight witches to go after them- you can't.

[x] Stick with me and keep the witches off us, ok? We've got this!

The fleeing fullbacks depart the airspace- the vampires staying glued to you in a turning, twisting fight.

You look up to find Wendy's stayed glued to you- waiting for orders, matching you as well as she can, which, to be fair, is pretty damn good. “Just stick on me, keep the witches off us, ok? We've got this!”

She clicks her mic- then calls a warning. You twist around the pattern of AK fire, nearly ramming into one witch who moved a hair slowly- you grin when you note that the leading edges of your fighter glowed with the tell-tale presence of Merlin's shielding. She knew you'd have hit the witch, and was reinforcing the fighter to prevent any damage.

The four Vampires break into two pairs, ignoring the witches, who seem to be there just to harass you, and keep you corralled.

It's almost like they never learned just who the fuck you are.

The first pair- you've designated them as such just because they're the pair you saw first, are trying to slot in on your tail, 30mm gunfire occasionally spitting from their single cannon.

Merlin, in the back, seems to operate in a bubble of calm- impressive, considering the positive and negative Gs you're pulling, turning defensively, trying to keep track of everything. “Fighters and night witches are scrambling, Frank.” She says, multitasking. “Multiple scrambles, the bombers are breaking off their tracks. I think we were the real target.”

“I... think.... so.... too!” You grunt, punctuating each word with a vicious change of heading. “Jesus these guys are good!”

“Countermeasures and Jamming are up.” She continues. “They seem to have some funny ideas about getting a radar lock on us. I've dealt with it. Watch their IR missiles, I can spoof them, but not as well as not getting shot at by them.”

1/2
>>
>>35376616
Played that beach mission so many times. Half of them with the hats cheat. It was hilarious
Allied Assault was also great.
>>
“I'll take it under advisement.” You respond, rolling inverted and screaming for the ground, now a few thousand feet below- you're already caged in by the witches and fighters, you'll trade maneuvering room of your own to cost them the same.

“How long till those reinforcements get here?” You ask, dancing the wyvern around a missile shot- looks like it didn't guide, and simply dumb fired out into space- shot, probably, to get you to turn inside it.

“Ten minutes. They're not even off the ground yet. Katya and the twins should be up soon.” She says.

“This thing'll be over in two minutes!” You respond, rolling the fighter onto one wing and breaking inside a witch's guns, responding to her AK fire with your own paired 25mm vulcans. She, wisely, doesn't try to continue the conversation, dropping under your shells for an attempt at your belly.

You flip inverted in response, vectoring your thrust down, sliding the nose around in an inverted kulbit loop- you see her eyes start to get wide as she realizes what it is you're doing- what it is you're capable of doing.

It's interrupted by no fewer than three of her sisters and the second pair of fighters- you're forced to arrest the move and instead arrow straight for the ground- they keep trying to work you higher, clawing for room to fight you. Wendy, still in her spot, above, behind, and to the right of your cockpit, fires a short burst from her L85, forcing the fighters away. The short glance you got at her, she's not even breathing hard, yet.

[] Alright Wendy, let's show them what they're messing with, here. You think you can keep up?
[] Break off and dive away, Wendy, I need the space for myself for a bit, ok?

4. You didn't need squadmates, you were the big badguy killing an MC and all of his friends.

5. Your squadmates are all entirely worthless and are one kind of annoying or another. Chopper is a peacenik who can't sing, Nagase's only redeeming value is she looks hot in some art, PJ is an idiot, and Snow is like 'LOL I'M YOUR URBAN FERAL REPLACEMENT FOR CHOPPER DO YOU CARE ABOUT ME YET'.

Zero actually ramps up 4's "You are the monster that everyone else fears", and has an arguably superior soundtrack (it's hard for me to decide between 0 and4).

6 is fun to play, but a magically shittier story than 5, with worse characters.

[x] Alright Wendy, let's show them what they're messing with, here. You think you can keep up?

“Alright Wendy, I've had about enough of this shit. You think you can keep up?” You call, snapping the fighter into a vicious left turn- better than ninety degrees. You should be hemorrhaging speed, on the verge of stalling- instead, though, you're still dancing around the wyvern's speed transition, trying to stay as fast as you can without having to fold the wings in.

Wendy's mic clicks.

Your first priority is those fighters- even one of them promises a pair of these witches a long flight back to a secure soviet airbase. You'd really like to splash the leader of this little group, but you'll take anything you can get. If an opportunity presents itself.

Which, so far, it hasn't. You're pushing pretty hard- there's a deep, burning pain in your side that you're pretty sure isn't good, and every muscle in your body aches with the strain of fighting against the G forces. You slip under a combined stream of shells- 30mm and AK fire- and roll away from another witch, lining up with a PKM. She still pulls the trigger, chasing you with her 7.62mm fire. You return the favor with an Agile- using your helmet mounted cueing system to give it a good look at it's target then kissing it on it's way.

The deadly little missile is almost perfectly suited for attacking witches- fast, maneuverable, and packing a hell of a warhead given it's size. The new model, the agile 3, even has some limited evasive maneuvers programmed in, to make shooting it out of the sky much more difficult.

1/3 (maybe 4)
>>
>>35377570
You know, that actually makes me wonder about the properties of extrademensional spaces here. We can stick inanimate objects in them and only use magic when they need to be accessed. Would a living organism be possible? What about a specialized bay powered by the witch riding in it? She wouldn't use up any magic flying the parent craft, just to maintain to keep the bay active, which should take markedly less than fully operating a striker.
>>
It never stood a chance of hitting- three separate witches engage it with AK fire almost as soon as it leaves the bay, tearing it apart as it drops free. You'd try to launch more, but you're forced to break away again, that first pair of vampires making a high-speed pass at you. You roll out of their sights, dumping chaff and flare automatically to dissuade any kind of IR missile shot- and heave at the same time, your body expelling blood from somewhere internally that splatters against the inside of your oxygen mask.

Ice is not going to be happy about this.

Whatever damage you're doing to yourself notwithstanding, you've got a split second-opening, and you pounce on it- with Wendy keeping the witches at bay, sticking to you almost like glue- you get, for one glorious second, a gun solution on the wingman of their lead vampire.

They can shoot down missiles, dodge bullets, and bring as many witches as they want, but they still screwed up. You slam the wyvern's nose back down, thrust vectoring cutting down and your canards deflecting up, bringing the nose- and the guns buried above your intakes- down and onto target.

The paired 25mm vulcans roar again, muzzle exhaust flashing in the night as the shells arrow into their target.

The first few miss- the pilot beginning his defensive turn almost the instant he saw your nose coming back around- but the some rest strike home before they're intercepted by no fewer than four witches, shields alight, diving in to block the shells. It's enough. It's more than enough.

The stricken fighter lurches, one turbine belching smoke that stands out like a blood trail on your IR display, a fire burning deep within. You grin as the witches now split up- some of them attempting to shepherd the fighter out of the airspace while the rest stick to you, trying to keep you busy to get their crippled squadronmate clear.

2/4
>>
Now on the offensive- they can't fire as freely without fear of hitting their damaged comrade, and you're under no such handicap- and all that's keeping him in the air is the shields of the witches- which, one by one- wink out under your assault.

Wendy does amazing work while you're attacking- her L85, the much-maligned rifle foisted on the UK's troops- forcing the witches back, keeping the sweeping fighters from being able to latch on- keeping them moving. Without her, you'd have never gotten that shot, you're sure of it. She hasn't been able to stick with you perfectly, but you don't think anyone could have. Maybe Natalya or Konstantina.

The vampire pilot is good- no doubt- but he's in a badly damaged fighter, and you're all over him. With missiles still out, it's comparatively childs play to fslot in for a second, sending another squirt of 25mm at him. Something hits, down there- a shell they missed- and one witch suddenly goes limp, her strikers sputtering uselessly as she falls. The opening lasts less than a second, but in that time, you're able to put another burst into the fighter, chewing apart the rear half. It flies on, trailing flame, then detonates- you see three of the little paired parachutes of strikers falling away, their witches limp- but no chute from the pilot.

3/4
>>
“Frank! Reinforcements are in the area! They want us to give them one long DF hold for missiles!” Merlin calls- the first she's really said in a while. You comply, opening your radio on GUARD and hoping the soviets get the message too- you're suddenly very tired, and your everything hurts.

They do- the vampires break away, suddenly, while the remaining witches- their number now down to four- withdraw as well, casting glances back over their shoulder. Down below, you can already see MH-60s- nighthawks, the trademark chopper of the airforce's pararescue teams- knifing in towards the small columns of colored smoke in the dawning sun- have you been up that long already?

The twins and Katya join up on your pair, Katya sliding around and over your fighter.

“H-” She stops. “I am not going to be asking how you did that.” She says, her voice low over the radio. “I am knowing, now, that you are not like anyone else in the sky. I will ask how you feel, as I cannot see you.”

That tells us nothing. Vampires are stealth fighters as well, after all. We might also have EW witches in the 8 that flew against us.

Because, if there were sparkles in the vampires, where were the shields. Why did it need 4 seperate flying soviet witches to fly in and shield it from shells instead of deploying an emergency shield.

No, Joe's the best for that. He has twins.

Very very expensive gambit for them if this is the case, regardless of how this ends. Personally, I don't think they can afford to trade high value units for ours, even if it is for someone as unique as Frank, and I daresay they just lost something very important that they couldn't afford to.

For all the amazeballs things we do, we are still only a single fighter in an elite unit. We make a difference, but we're still just a cog in the machine.
>>
[x] I'm... probably pretty messed up.

“I'm... probably pretty messed up.” You say, after a second, pulling your oxygen mask free.

“Can you make Torun?” Alyssa asks. “There's support on the ground waiting.”

“We're... we're fine on fuel, Frank.” Merlin says from the back, sounding about the way you feel.

The flight back to Torun is the longest in your life. Surprisingly, your head is still clear when the runway crawls into sight, and you're second down, right after Wendy, who practically collapses out of her strikers as soon as they're hooked to the rack. You can't say you blame her- you can already see the angry red welts around her thighs where the interface sits she pushed herself to the breaking point to stay with you- and pulled it off.

You take a second to swipe your sleeve across your face before slowly, laboriously unbuckling after you shut the fighter down and take a second to rest before summoning what's left of your strength and standing up, levering one foot over the side of the cockpit and onto the rolling access stairs. Turning, you look back, helping Merlin, who, other than being deathly pale, looks ok. Still, you end up having to let the ground crew help her out- you're far, far too spent.

On the ground, you're suddenly overcome by a wave of nausea- and end up emptying the contents of your stomach, chow hall spaghetti, all over the ground, one hand braced against the nose gear of the wyvern. When it's done, you wipe your mouth and pat it. “Sorry girl. You did good today.” You tell the fighter as the thud of booted feet- small, witchy booted feet, closes in on you.

At least you're still standing this time. And there's worse places to be in the world than wedged up against Slider as she helps you to the ambulance. You could walk just fine- probably- but why take the risk?
>>
>>35378180
For pity's sake, it really was an us or them type of engagement. If we hadn't knocked out that bird the hit squad wouldn't have backed off until we were downed, and we have Merlin in the plane to think of to. If you want to pin this on anyone pin in it on the guy who designed the sealed cockpit on the vampire.

Eh, I wouldn't be so quick to scream. Remember, even Merlin was having immense trouble tracking them, and she speaks directly with the equipment.

She mentioned something specific about the equipment wanting to "forget" the targets were there, maybe its new tech that nobody knows anything about.

>>
>>35378488
>It still feels like we're going at it alone.

Welcome to the life of military pilots. You and your wingman are all the backup you have in most cases when things get hairy.

If you want official recognition for what you do, do NOT be in the military, because much of what you do involves doing such acts without any expectation of a "thank you".

We are a UNIQUE unit, by nature there are many things we have to do alone simply because NOBODY ELSE can go with us there save our wingman, and even they get left behind. Katya herself just admitted we are unlike anyone else in the sky, she finally understands what we are.

The entire concept that kicked off strike witches quest and its many spin offs (this quest included) was the idea of taking an anime exclusively about cute girls doing cute things was juxtaposition-ed with the horrors of war. SWQ uses the anime witches, with a handful of others, IIRC.

TWQ (ran very, very shortly) is the same timeframe, with I think some canon tank witches from comics and stuff, the books, ya know.

SuQW is on-again off again, all OC and historical figures. I think it's off right now

this is 89... just, ya know. in case.

TW89 is set in the same timeframe, dealing with tanks.

and PJW89 is the same timeframe, following a mixed pararescue team.

>>
>>35378852
Well, I imagine that rather than getting sack time, she was awake (again inferred by the image names) and listening to to this mission go down. She probably needs the rest, like any pilot or witch on the front line, but she can't bring herself to stay asleep when this pretty awesome guy she's supposed to be in command of is flying into danger.

I imagine a lot of people in the squadron get worried to some extent or another, but Ice has it probably the worst. Even the Sharks probably think of Frank as more than a friend, but as a sort of family member. Heck, the Sherkweek thread we had showed that the Styles twins both have a lot of respect for Frank as a pilot, and they were both hoping that he wouldn't be upset about them and Joe.

the ops shack would be the only place where Ice could hear what's going on- if you've ever seen top gun, think of there at the end when the CAG is standing near the radar operator, listening to the pilots. Same kind of thing here- she went there to listen to Frank and Wendy's mission.

Maybe they told him, in confidence, why one of them lost a leg, and why that lead to both of them not being proper strike witches and becoming pilots instead. Maybe he came to respect and admire them a lot more than he expected to. Maybe the girl sans leg thought nobody would look at her quite like Joe does. Maybe the girl with both legs is unbelievably grateful that there's someone out there who cares for her sister like this... but maybe she also likes the guy because he turned out to be pretty awesome to her as well.

But the looks are obvious, I doubt she has the makeup to hide the dark circles under her eyes/

Oh yes Feelthy this would be intense.
I always love getting out squadron mates' perspective of the decisions we make.
>>
>>35379519
We've still never learned how she lost that leg, right?
>>
>>35379443
>They've pretty much stuck with their 'hue hue' schtick by and large.
Yeah cause fighter pilots are know for being super serious stoics all the fucking time.
>>
>>35379519
I like this way of looking at the scenario.

But I still remember how Slider was trolling the twins with her "recordings".
>>
>>35379519
That last part was kind of weird.

Then again Mav did say they were weird that way.

"Because unless you are a fool, that girl is off the market! She is a hundred percent, prime time, in love with you." -Patty Mitchel to Frank Bishop.

Not at all taken from Top Gun. No sir.

I think Frank might notice though.

He's strangely does notices those things.

I know it's just that she might use it to hide the dark circles underhher eyes

The only thing I knew about Top Gun wasthe honest trailer.

So Frank look like Tom Cruise?

I like the quote though.

So We have Patty restraining Ice.

I'm almost positive Frank isn't Tom Cruise.

Mav's Fem Cruise.

Nobody. He's Mobius One.
SW89 is one part Top Gun, one part Strike Witches, and one part Ace Combat.

Oh don't forget one part Metal Slug, a tenths of a part black lagoon, and a ton load of other stuff in the mix.

Fronk is either too dense or just straight-out avoiding any kinds of meaningful relationships right now.

My personal interpretation is that Frank, despite his raging libido and his absolute manliness, cares for all the women who inexplicably seem to love him. Perhaps in a romantic way, perhaps not.

Despite his feelings, he doesn't want to hurt any of them, and hasn't found a way to make all of them happy, as well as himself.
>>
>>35379425
Maybe some day. I'm busy with work, with writing Ogawa's Suffering on the PJ side of the story.

I do like the sharks quite a bit as characters, their relationship is interesting, and there's potentially interesting character dynamics between Alyssa (one leg) Clarissa (two legs), and how they both feel about Joe, and about eachother as sisters.

Poor Joe, his body could never be ready.
>>
>>35379932
Oh yea. you should know that the waifu wars are literally the only thing that keeps these quests going.
>>
>>35379871
Not yet but the waifu wars have cooled down a bit but once in awhile a vote will get a shitload of votes because some waifufags don't actively take part in the threads and they are dicks.
>>35379894
>Fronk is either too dense
We've been over this, He'd have to be blind not to know about Katya and Ice let Slider's feels for Fronk slip, now Ice just needs to be honest and open since she does the whole Ice routine.

theres a reason why sw89 is seen as how not to do waifu wars
>>
>>35379958
Oops, slip of the tongue, my bad.
It all appears, then, that Fronk is just looking for a way to make every lady he knows happy, and not yet going that far down the road.
>>
>>35379974
I dunno, waifu wars are not inherently bad. It's the players that make them insufferable to deal with. Especially the ones trying to forces certain outcomes that make no sense.
>>
>>35379958

slider keeps pushing ice too and fronks got to blind to not see it. especially with how he teases ice sometimes.

>>35379974
It's not that bad, other quest and QMs handle it way worst, it's just that it's gone on for so long but we're in the home stretch. Ghost said there was only something like 2 major arcs left and I doubt they'll last another year.
>>35380007
Yeah and he's made jokes about Slider and didn't know she actually felt something till Ice said something. There's also the fact that Ice is his commander and despite everything still can live up to her nickname.

Or at least Ghost would be merciful enough to not kill off a named character on our side.
