Good evening, /tg/. Welcome to Exalted - Guardian Beast Quest. Last session, our nameless, Casteless Lunar chimera assisted in the destruction of a Circle of Dragon-blooded assassins and rescued what appears to be our mate — an Abyssal, a woman in nondescript attire who wielded a spear. Contact with her has returned some of our sanity and humanity to us.

We have no knowledge of her or her kind. Or of ourselves. or where we are.

Let's change Creation tonight.
Intro post materials:

Rules:
- Rule Zero is in effect
- Actions have consequences
- Drama is fun
- No looking away

>What is this?
A collective game (“quest”) that takes place in White Wolf’s Exalted setting, using dice mechanics that are a hybrid of Stolze’s One Roll Engine and a whole lotta home-brew.

>Solar? Lunar? Sidereal? What the hell is this, Astronomy Quest?
When the gods rebelled against their creators, the mightiest gods (of the sun, moon, and stars) granted incredible power to chosen mortals to serve as their champions against the Titans. The Solars were created to be paragons of excellence; the Lunars, guardians, custodians, and, if necessary, lethal enforcers; the Sidereals, wise counsellors and behind-the-scenes facilitators.

>Who are we?
We are one of the Lunar Exalted, chosen by the god of the Moon, Luna, as one of her 300 champions. Each one of us is bonded to a Solar, one of the 300 champions of the Sun, to act as their boon companion, conscience, counsellor, and (if need be) executioner. We draw our power from Luna’s blessing, and also our mutable form as one of an elite breed of shape-changers. We are also a chimera, a Lunar who has been corrupted by the chaos of the Wyld, and who has surrendered some of their humanity and sanity in exchange for greater power. Mad, bad, and dangerous to know, we’ve rampaged for an indeterminate time as a ravening monster, only reawakening to sanity at the touch of our newfound Solar mate.

>And who’s that?
A woman being set upon by a band of assassins in a lonely Northern forest. She seems to have been looking for us when she was attacked. We preyed on her assailants, and was about to include her in our meal when our bond to her shocked us back to sanity. She appears to be one of the Abyssal Exalted: Solars who have had their Exaltation captured and corrupted by one of thirteen Deathlords bent on destroying Creation to grant peace to their Neverborn masters.

LAST TIME, ON EXALTED - GUARDIAN BEAST QUEST...

> "You wonderful, beautiful monster. Do you know how long I've been looking for you? Been dreaming of you?"

>Scales fall from your eyes at her touch. You see with new eyes. You stand before her in new flesh. Soft, though muscled, compared to your previous armoured bulk. Naked, though impervious to the cold. The mark of the changing moon burns brilliantly on your brow as something in you answers to her need.

>It is unclear which one of you speaks first, but your voices echo one another's in the empty forest.

>"I am yours, and you are mine."

You stand before a young woman, wounded in battle, whose assailants you have slain. You are naked, ankle-deep in snow. You appear to be human. That's new. You don't ever remember having worn this shape before.

She has a hand pressed to her side, although the blood that once gouted from her wound there has long since ceased to flow. Her hair is matted and grimy after days of hard travel. Her strong-boned features are beautiful, in a hard, glass-brittle sort of way, but smudged and concealed behind a layer of dirt.

Still. It seems you've never seen anything more beautiful.

> What do you do?

As I mentioned the last time, while the first thread was almost completely narrative (with a few dice rolls here and there), I actually do have a system planned. After some reflection I'm deciding to go for full disclosure rather than have a JQ style "system behind the scenes" style.

I'm hoping that having mechanics to interact with might pre-empt future Interceptor Wars, is what I'm saying.

So here's our character sheet...

[1/2]

... and the sheet with our shapeshifting options.

I have a pile of Powers/Knacks and stuff written up, and based on the players' choices last thread, I've assigned the ones I think are appropriate (ie, the ones we've already used, more or less) to the Main Character.

From here on in, further boosts will be gained through a mixture of RP, XP buys, and milestone progression. For the moment, only Permanent Essence is regulated by milestone progression (ie your Essence only rises when I say it does), everything else is purchasable.

I'll come up with a chart of XP gain/expenditure when it becomes germane.

This.

Loot the bodies of the assailants for anything helpful, and any blankets or furs to give to our mate.

Give our mate first aid, use cloth from the dead people to bind her wounds if we don't find medical supplies in their stuff.

Take our mate somewhere safe, preferably with fresh water so we can wash her wounds and clean her up, and shelter so she can rest. Ask her name as well, keep close to her, use our body to provide her with warmth if needed.

>Give our mate first aid, use cloth from the dead people to bind her wounds if we don't find medical supplies in their stuff.
See:

I don't think she's injured.
>>
>>35280074
I'll second this.

This anons an Exalted newbie, so I'll leave the crunch to my fellow anons while I learn the system, also unfortunately about to fall asleep, hopefully I wake up before the end of the thread.

OP, a note for using the twitter if you haven't with a quest before, its very handy to give a days notice, if you can, of when a thread will run, but at least a couple hours if you can't, and when you put the thread up, post it on your twitter, much easier to find and turn up to threads on time.

If I miss the rest of the thread, thanks for running.

Your new flesh unnerves you. So does your mate's silence, and the way she regards you, as some kind of wondrous anomaly, is frankly unnerving.

So you do what comes naturally: you reach out, and gently take hold of her wrist. She doesn't resist, the light of your anima still filling her eyes with Luna's reflected glamour. A slight tug is all that's needed to break her balance, and she leans backwards to right herself; you take the opportunity to scoop her legs out from under her and lift her into your arms.

She squeaks in surprise -- something you would not have expected from someone in such a grim state. She shivers into you as she presses closer for warmth: she wears stout travelling clothes beneath her breastplate, but the cloak she wore against the cold has been shredded beyond repair by the weapons of your enemies.

Mindful of her comfort, with a solicitude that surprises you, you make haste to gather whatever supplies and equipment you can salvage from the blood-soaked, corpse-strewn clearing. It's tricky to do with both arms full of wounded woman, so you grow two more, and use those instead.

Then you carry her into the relative safety and cover of the wood, out of the wind. The dead archer, stiff from the paralytic effects of your venom, is still wearing her cloak of woven leaves; you drape it across your charge's figure and lay her beneath the shelter of a low shrub.

Gently, but without affection, in the way a scholar might touch a fabled artifact, she presses a hand to your cheek wonderingly.

"I still can't fully believe you're real," she murmurs. "I came looking, but I never thought I'd find you.

"I... I don't even know your name."

That's odd. neither do you.
>>
Oh shit you're back OP, cool, only just got here so I'm catching up right now, I'm the poisonous+constrictor anon from last thread, good to see you so soon.

Fifteen minutes! Pick a name for us, guys!

Exalted names tend to run the gamut from descriptive adjective+noun (Harmonious Jade) to the standard fantasyland syllable mishmash (V'neef; Mnemon) to the purple (Lewd-Countenanced Courtesan of the Purple Veils... OF BLOOD!)
>>
>>35280269
Solaris, the moon named sun.
>>

>Rule Zero is in effect

I reserve the right to alter setting canon, including rules. In some cases I'll do so for aesthetic reasons; in others, because I don't like or don't know what the canon is.

I also reserve the right to alter rules, including my own rules, in order to preserve fun for all involved (including me).

>>35280161
>I don't think she's injured

In the Exalted ruleset, mortals can get infections and bleed to death from basic injuries. The Exalted, however, can close wounds simply by thinking about it. She's been injured, but at least she's not bleeding out/getting worse.

>>35280163
I actually set up this Twitter account like five minutes before I posted this thread :D I'll definitely give more warning in future.

>>35280306

>>
>>35280286
Please no, way too fucking cheesy..
I'd go for something like Thylos for a generic fantasy name.
Or Elusive Cycle or something.
>>
>>35280346
This is actually pretty funny.

I have some reservations about the Sol- derivation, because it's going to lead to some nomenclature-style confusion later on.

You have a character called Sol(aris) interacting with Solars who are also empowered by a guy called Sol (Invictus).
>>
>>35280408
That's kind of the point I think.

>>35280456
Alternatively:

"Hi, I'm Sol--"
"Anathema! ANATHEMAAAAAAA~!"
"Sometimes I even wonder why I bother stealing their skins."

>>35280457
I'd like not to, but we are kinda short on suggestions beyond "Sol" and "generic fantasy name".

I got nothing. MC is Moon Moon in my notes.

Ah, that makes sense and sounds sensible.
>>
>>35280478

>>35280497
How about White Wave Serpent, guys? It sounds pretty Exalted, I guess.

>>35280346
>Solid Snake.
>>35280497
>Liquid Snake

That's a fucking terrible name, shittonnes worse than Solaris.
>>
>>35280478
>>35280490
I'm thinking of something like Kyo'gí or Kyógí maybe Kyo'gi'k or something, because it has a hidden "pun" in it that not many would get and is so stupidly simple. Not sure what naming conventions you want for this quest though.
>>
>>35280478
If you would prefer it, we could be:
>Ravi, The sun named moon
>Matahari, The sun named moon
>il, The Sun named Moon
>Tàiyáng, The Sun named Moon
If you don't want Sol
>>
>>35280528
White Wave Serpent, the Liquid Solid.
>>
>>35280534
>because it has a hidden "pun" in it that not many would get and is so stupidly simple
Terrible reason for a name.

>>35280531
I agree, if you can't think of anything, say so or find a name generator instead of pulling names from a shitty vidya series.

>>35280545
>the Liquid Solid.
Oh for fucks sake stop it already.
>>
>>35280534
>Kyogi
>hidden "pun"

I'm drawing a blank, too.
>>
>>35280528
>White Wave Serpent
Not really a name, and I still don't see the issue with Solaris, infinitely better than the other shitty names that have been regurgitated the 40th time for a quest.
>>
>>35280565
>my pun not better than the Sol idea

It's an anagram of the word "snake(s)" in my native language

And?

My name is David, and that leads to confusion when there is another David in the room, do I let that define my existence or get a new name?

Retarded reason to reject a name.

>>
>>35280590
Huh, not that I think about it, it's also an anagram of the word "lizards"
>>
>All this shit about arguing with names
Kek. Never seen a more pathetic reason for a quest to die.
>>
>>35280599
Stories are not real life. You should avoid having characters with similar names, it can lead to confusion.
>>
>>35280657
Do you think I should have had one in mind? I'm terrible at names and was hoping to get some help in that regard.

Okay. Right now we've got a couple of options. The popular option appears to be something Sol-derived, while none of the alternatives have had the same appeal.

I know it's bad form for QMs to force an issue through if it's been put up to a vote, but it also seems counterproductive to go ahead with something that's going to lead to a shitstorm later and/or make writing for this quest an unpleasant chore.

Let me think. Be back in 15.

I'm not sure what to say about the suggestion. Given that it's a pun in a language that I don't speak, I can honestly say I can't see the appeal, sorry. Although I guess it's pretty normal for people to not get puns in languages they don't speak.

I was going for just a very random reason to justify it, but just let it sound like general fantasy stuff.
Did you know the name of one of the more popular NPC's is really just a word related to their theme translated to another language too? Don't think people disliked it immediately upon seeing it, especially without anyone telling them.
Farkas=Wolf
The guy was a werewolf

>>35280782
Wasn't going for a similar impact, since that will the joke will die off after 1 or 2 threads and be treated by NPC's as stupid.
>>
>>35280815
That's Moon Moon tier naming.

If it helps Exalted aficionados, we're in the Northeast.

Also, last chance. We're either Casimir (named for historical king of a sometimes-frozen wasteland of badasses, had four wives and lots of children, welcomed outcasts, and did shit like pull down a peasant's house when another hot peasant told him it was blocking her view of some nice scenery.

We're either that, or My Horrible Idea.

"And who you are now is Pet." There's something in her voice that makes your heart feel like it's been pressed up against your ribcage, like it's being reeled out of your chest. A pressure. Your vision blurs.

"Yes," you manage to croak.

"Good!" she says, as brightly as can be managed with a wan, tired smile. "Now, let's see what our hunters-turned-prey have so thoughtfully provided us with."

Interrupt, with something extra to season to taste.

Still open to future alterations if something particularly appealing or appropriate comes up.

>2x9

She reaches down to the rough parcel of supplies and equipment you've gathered. You slap her hand out of the way.

The woman recoils, staring at you in shock. She seems more surprised and discomfited by your small admonition than nearly being murdered in the forest by assassins.

"My *name* is *Casimir*." Your voice is rough, and emerges as much as a growl as a statement, but it carries enough force behind it to make her snap her lips shut around whatever protest she was trying to muster.

For a long moment, you two stare each other down.

She's the first to break eye contact.

"Fine," she mutters, pulling the cloak of leaves closer around her. She adds, low enough for a mortal to have missed it but not enough to escape your preternatural senses, "... stupid book... this isn't going anything like... supposed to..."

You ignore her muttering, and instead spread out what you've found on the corpses of those you've slain. Your prey. Odd. It doesn't feel quite as natural to think of them as such any more.

Rolled up in one of their fur-trimmed robes is an assortment of steel weapons and armour. A tetsubo, a pair of fighting claws; a set of razor-edged discs for throwing; a pair of short, heavy-bladed swords; a bow longer than you are tall, without any supply of ammunition.

There's food and water, although you regard the dry, pressed rations with a jaundiced gaze, confident that even in this winter wasteland you could do better with a little effort. There's a pouch of round metal discs, which the woman seizes, and a packet of papers that she begins fussing over immediately.

Your attention, however, is drawn to a pendant snatched from the neck of the massive stone-skinned man who fell victim to your scything claws. It is set with a dull black stone, unpolished and uncut, otherwise featureless, save for a scent that you can't quite identify...

As she studiously ignores you in favour of... doing whatever she's doing to that paper, you busy yourself doing what you have to. The actions are instinctive, and seem right, but they seem to come from some other residual wisdom, that has little to do with your still freshly-remembered predatory urges. You pile the stripped bodies together, making sure each one is dead. The one impaled through both wrists is motionless, but you fancy you can still hear a pulse throbbing weakly in his veins. Hmm.

>kill
>don't kill
>TLC

You shovel snow over the corpses to dull the smell and avoid attracting other predators. You have no wish to share your newfound companion with the wolves and worse that roam the wood.

Finally, you follow your nose back to the strange woman. The smell of her blood really is overpowering. Curious, you fall to all fours and lower your head. You thrust it beneath her arm, and ignore her as she beats ineffectually at your head and shoulders with her fists.

You inspect the wound at close range. The blades were sharp, and entered cleanly; there is a slight tearing where the other man -- the one still apparently alive -- obviously tried to rake her, but her instincts might have saved her from disembowelment, causing her to leap back rather than let the wound be dragged open.

Odd. Given the depth of the wounds, she ought to still be bleeding. But she isn't. Hmm. But then again, bleeding has never really bothered you either, all those times your prey turned out to be in the mood for playtime. Perhaps she's tougher than she looks.

Still. Better safe than sorry. You lap at her side, sealing the puckered edges of skin with your lips and tongue.

If you thought the protest she made earlier was awkward-sounding, that's nothing compared the sound she's making now: some kind of high-pitched, choking, snorting thing, that goes on and on.

This isn't helping. You're trying to *concentrate*.

It seems what's more important is clarity (even if that takes a lot of word count) to provide players max info, so they can make better decisions. And that responsiveness comes about not with shooting in-character responses quickly, but being fast to respond to player input and OOC questions.

I'll keep that in mind.

Also, ask her about the dude and ask her name seem to be leading. I'll go with that.

Personally, from experience QMing, I'd say:

- time events so that the decision points come at the end of each post. For example, here, have the wound licking start out, then finish up with checking on the bodies. It helps with clarity and writing.
- give about 5m; if there's a clear consensus, start writing (don't close the vote, though), then keep your eye out for changes or shifts in the votes. If there isn't, give it another 5-10 minutes before writing.
- if there's some kind of actual, serious debate, give it a little bit to work itself out.

Generally, only openly close votes if it's between two highly contentious options, and if you do so, use the serial quote method. That is, put each vote under a heading for its option; this lets you check relatively easily for any missed votes, since they'll be lacking the >>XXXXXXXX (You) bit.

You lift your head, and with a handful of snow wipe dried blood from your muzz -- nose, you remind yourself. It's a nose.

Once you break contact, her snorting fit subsides. Her pale skin is flushed. Her features look like they're trying to knit themselves into something approximating outrage, but all she manages is an exaggerated moue, as she scoops snow into her hands and helps you to clean your face.

"Name," you want to grunt, but stifle the impulse. That sort of thing is... unpleasant. Un... couth?

Instead, you say, "Well, it certainly seems you have me at some disadvantage. You now know my name, while I know nothing of you.

"You also appear to have not been very thorough with one of the... hunters? we just fought. There's one back there, still sucking air. Do you think you could ask him if I could have his clothes once he's gone? He seems the closest fit for me, and it isn't seemly for me to continue as I am."

You motion significantly to indicate the fact that you're naked. The look in her eyes suggests that she's noticed.

After a moment, she manages to close her mouth. "I... I'm Sh-- I'm Ashen-Tome Lector. And I left him alive on purpose. Obviously."

In her haste to bustle over to the man, whom you've dragged into the thicket with you, she drops the papers she was perusing.

Do you...

Making a fire and melting water ought to be fairly simple. You... remember fire. You remember what to do with it, and meat, although for the life of you, you can't imagine why anyone would want to burn perfectly good meat. You could:
> butcher your freshly-downed prey
> go hunt down something else
> prepare something using the preserved rations you've scavenged

Re: What we look like --
The pics in the character sheet images above are the ones I'm currently using as a mental guide. I could do a written description in my next post, which should clarify things.

Casimir seems to have memories of living as as relatively civilised human being. But he also doesn't seem to associate those memories with *himself* that strongly. He knows they're important, and he remembers some stuff (in a fragmentary manner) that's useful, but when he thinks about himself, he still identifies most strongly with the most recent continuity: that of being the Predator, the Hunter, the Stalker of the White Wood

>>35282317
My post didn't say he should, anon
>>
I was gonna save this for the end of the thread but I gotta go soon so:

PROTIP: Try to maintain professional distance from the collaborative narrative you and your players are crafting. Don't get emotionally invested in the outcome. It ends poorly, in railroading and shitstorms. This also allows a QM to easily shift blame from themselves and onto the other players, though doing this often increases the toxicity of your fanbase.

Don't get me wrong. You should always have an idea of where you're going and what your next move is. You shouldn't simply be a vessel for whatever the players spew forth from their collective keyboards. You should always enjoy writing. However, if a matter essentially comes down to opinion (wear the red dress, yellow sucks!) you should always simply run with the majority vote, even if it's somewhat inconvenient.

Also, name generators are your friend.

Shit storms are where at least 10-20 people all have differing opinions and are posting every once a minute to express them.

I will allow a change or name-revision. It's not unusual to have multiple monikers in Creation. But I think I'll leave it to a slightly later time, when tempers are calmer and we have a better sense of who and what our MC is.

Perhaps it might not be a good idea to feed your friend the fresh livers of her enemies just yet. You're pretty sure that's considered... unacceptable... in some parts. You can't remember which, though. It's not like anyone in the forest cares. Still. Still. It doesn't hurt to be considerate, and there's a certain sweet scent to the rations you haven't smelled in a long time.

You gather dead wood kept dry in the undergrowth, and strike sparks by scraping sharp claws against your suddenly-scaled flesh. Then you set up a stout tripod of branches, suspending from the ends one of the leather cloaks, forming a shallow depression in the leather. You shovel snow into it, and wait for the water to melt. As long as the water in the depression doesn't completely evaporate, you're pretty sure the garment isn't going to start burning.

When the water is ready and started to warm, you crumble the dried rations and sprinkle them in. A casual lick of your palm sends a surprising tingle from your tongue straight to brain. Honey! It's honey! You haven't... haven't had honey in...

... A long time.

Reasoning that the meal can take care of itself for the moment, you drift over to where 'Ash' is studying the man you identified as being still alive. She's kneeling over him, her head lowered over his. Perhaps listening for his breath...?

She turns at your approach, and you notice fresh blood running from her lips, and a ragged wound in the man's neck.

Oh.

"I can explain!" she says, stepping away from what is almost certainly now a corpse.

Your response is considerably more mellow.

"I don't suppose you're going to use the rest of that?"

'Ash' blinks. "Uh. No. I... I guess you could... if... if you're into that sort of thing..."

You suspect she's misunderstood your comment.

"I mean, I just drink the blood while they're still alive. It helps to keep my Essence going. I..." She hesitates. "I'm not from... around here. It's difficult to stay strong. To stay... alert. That's why I was in such bad shape when you appeared. I was trying to save my strength against those... *assassins*. By the time I realised they were Exalted too, I'd taken some hits."

She glances at the corpse. "We might want some answers from him, so I'll need his corpse relatively intact. If you want to... use... something, you could try one of the others?"

She has most definitely misunderstood you.

"I'm thinking more of eating, actually." You indicate the campfire. "I've fixed you dinner."

She looks from you to the fire, and then back again. This happens a couple of times, before something in her seems to crack an instant before her composure does. A tear races down her cheek, the first of many as she rushes to you with a wordless cry, holding you close even as she shakes in your arms.

"I... I never expected all of this to happen. I just wanted t-to... to get *away*. From her. From that place. I... I never thought it would be so hard, to scrounge for Essence, to keep a low profile. For as long as it took to get here. For as long as it took to find you."

She's sobbing into your shoulder.

Do you...

It's an odd thing. In the actual RPG, Abyssals can have anything from fuckhuge tusks in the mouth to delicate, needle-pointed fangs, but their ability to drain sustenance and Essence from their victims is dependent on how much damage they inflict.

This suggests that even wounds that don't leave much of a mark still inflict some kind of serious trauma.

Exalted note: Abyssals are empowered by Solar Exaltations that have been corrupted by Underworld magic. When in Creation-proper, instead of the Underworld, they find it very difficult to regenerate Essence (which you do very naturally) without being extremely ostentatious.

>>35282656
Hey Del, are you using this ruleset?

The mystical ties that bind Lunar Exalted to their Solar mates offer Abyssal Exalted a tiny sliver of hope. Resonance is never gained from sins of life directly associated with the appropriate Lunar. If the deathknight's mate calls her by her forsaken name, she may answer to it. She can protect her mate from harm and love her with a positive Intimacy. The two can even have children together safely, for all that the Neverborn impotently roar in fury. If the Abyssal actually does hold a positive Intimacy for her mate, the protection goes even farther, shielding her from sins of death so long as her actions are in direct support or defense of the Lunar. Thus, an Abyssal with no positive Intimacy could safely protect her mate from demons, but not a horde of specters (since the sin of death for opposing creatures of death still applies even though defending the specific life is permitted). With a positive Intimacy, the deathknight can safely ignore her Liege's command to murder her mate and can even fight the Deathlord in defense of that one precious life.

As you did earlier, you hoist her in your arms and carry her back to camp. It's only a few hundred feet. By the time you get there, her sobs have subsided, and she can partake of the gruel you've prepared. What simmers in your makeshift pot is little more than a mash of oats, cracked grains, and dried (and now rehydrated) fruit, sweetened with whatever honey was used to preserve it, but she clasps the wooden spoon you find like a sword, and digs in with a gusto you would never have imagined as a first-time cook.

She seems to take more pleasure in the fact that the food is hot, and prepared especially for her, than in the taste: you can't imagine that she can taste much of anything, given how fast she's shovelling down spoonfuls of piping hot almost-porridge. Well. That makes you feel... better. Useful. Whole.

For your part, you rip a haunch off one of the fallen assassins, your teeth and jaw shifting under your skin to accommodate the meal. You choose not to shift fully in front of her, determined to make the most of this newfound humanity.

Part of that involves practicing your speech. In between rending bites and wet chewing, you ask her, "Who are you running from? And who were these... attackers?"

>>35282729
It's in the cards, but Ashen-Tome Lector isn't ready for that. Not yet. That thing seems dependent on an actual relationship, which you and she don't quite have yet. You have a connection, that neither of you really don't understand, but not a relationship by any stretch.

[1/2]

>>35282794
"My... my mentor, I suppose you could call her." She seems calmer now, although when someone has red eyes, it's hard to tell if they've been crying in the first place. "She took me in when I was... a lot younger. Trained me. But I wanted more than she could offer.

"I... I read in a book, that every S-- every Exalted like me, had a bonded protector. A... a 'mate'." Her cheeks flame at the word. You're pretty sure it's not the heat of the fire. "A guardian beast to look after them. I read that... in the Age That Was, these guardians were chosen by the Moon, and would protect their charges from everything.

"I... I reasoned that if I left my mentor, well, I wasn't ready to face the world. I'm still... not really ready. I've read a lot of books about a lot of things, but I'm not good at talking to people. I never was. And once she took me in, well... there just weren't any real people to talk to.

"Anyway, I thought... I thought that if I were to ever have a hope of leaving her, I'd have to find my own guardian. My partner. It's taken me a long time to find you." Her eyes, shining at you from across the campfire, are suddenly softened by unshed tears that she dashes away with a quick gesture. "It took me *years*. And I had to do... things.

"But I'm so glad I've found you... or rather, that you've found me.

"And I'm even more glad that it's you... Casimir."

Just a heads-up OP, it's generally received well when a QM writes out the whole post in notepad or something similar, then posts chunks from the completed thing.
Reduces time between posts, helps you determine what X is in [1/X], and can help you structure things better.
>>
>>35282877
Damn it. That was [2/2]

>>35282889
I'll keep that in mind. Thank you everyone for being patient in between posts.

Don't talk, move over to her and cuddle her. Questions can be asked when she's less emotional.

This. Maybe add in some kisses and nips too.
>>

Move over and embrace her from behind
>And I'm so glad to have found you.
>Sleep now, we will talk tomorrow.
I hope we have sufficient shelter to cuddle.

Should be relatively easy to establish a relationship, since we're both not used to people and need each other.
>>
>>35282906
This, just nuzzle her to keep warm. We don't seem talkative anyway. If she has something to say, we'll listen
>>
>>35282940
No nips/kisses yet please, she's inexperienced and emotional, support is what she needs now, not excitement. That's what I think, at least.

So this is the quest where we are Tia?

I'm okay with this

The mood has changed, somewhat, although you can't quite explain how. You pull the unused wood away from the fire and place it under the shelter of a dense shrub. The assemblage of boughs and makeshift leather pot, you keep as-is. You'll need it in the morning.

For now, you're both tired, and pleasantly full, and in a relatively sheltered part of the forest. For as long as you can remember, these sensations of well-exercised muscles, full belly, and a place out of the wind were the only things you cared about. Speaking to Ash, though, about wanting something *more*...

You can't help but feel something in you respond to that.

Still. There is work to be done.

Silver light blooms momentarily as your flesh flows. You don a different shape, that of a winter wolf, with a thick, warm coat of fur and wide paw-pads, with which you dig into the snow. You burrow a shallow embankment against the winter wind, and then drag in your mouth some of the discarded robes you've scavenged, laying it down to insulate against the snow.

The next bit is tricky, but somehow, by lying in the pit, then dashing out to nip at Ash's ankles and butting at the backs of her knees, you guide her to the burrow. She lies down, tentatively, as you toss a second layer of cloth over her.

What follows is another few minutes of that choking, grunting, snorting sound, as you find boughs that still bear needles, and drag them over. You build an insulating blanket/shelter of them, and then wriggle your way under it. Ash gives a short, clipped shriek as your cold wet nose presses against the back of her neck, then a breathless laugh as she rolls over and buries her face in your coat.

You both smell like blood, and snow, and the earth. Your campsite is a scene of horrific slaughter. You can't explain why, when she tried to force that name upon you, you felt like your chest would burst with some unnameable emotion (and also, an accelerated heart-rate).

You are warm, and full, and you have kept her safe.

You feel better than you've felt in ages. And as the changing moon wends her secretive way through the heavens, you fall asleep.

This seems like a natural break-point. I could go on a little bit further, but I think we're at a good, organic place to stop, so I'm calling it.

G'night, everyone who stayed, and listened, and helped. Next thread will tentatively be 48 hours from when this one started.
>>
>>35283246
Oh well. Alright.

Thanks OP, sorry if this thread was a little bumpy. Thanks for taking our criticism seriously and adapting on the fly. You have a g'night.
>>
>>35283170
>nor in our human
Oh...
Well, I guess it might have been necessary to keep her warm. I hope to wake up in human form though, to see her reaction to us embracing her while naked.
>>
>>35283280
I can understand the logic, fur is pretty warm and acts as a good insulator.
>>
>>35283307
Neither of us are effected by the cold though.
>>
>>35283332
I'm pretty sure Solars are, if they don't have the necessary charms.
>>
Thanks for the thread OP, even if it was bumpy, it was still fun outside of that!
>>
>>35283280
>I hope to wake up in human form
No reason why not.

I have to mention that while I'm not averse to writing anything 'lewd' -- and my fourth rule disallows fading to black -- I'm relying on the sanity of my players not to have to do so when it's clearly not in the interest of the plot or the characters.

So far, so good!

>>35283332
>>35283343
Yeah. Abyssals have a sort of vampiric aesthetic, but they aren't actually vampires or undead. Unless they take the right powers, they have to eat, sleep, and defecate, and are presumably susceptible to the elements. They can develop immunity to these things fairly easily, though.

Lunars, in my interpretation, are not immune to the elements by their nature... it's just that the vast majority of them are so tough that they can shrug off whatever harm the elements pose.

In game parlance, your natural soak is so high that this sort of cold damage can't hurt you.

>>35283374
Thank you and everyone else who stuck around! I was really wondering if I should throw in the towel for a moment there. I'm glad I pushed through.

Here's to hoping it gets better.
>>
An Abyssal and a Chimera Lunar. Man, aren't we lucky, eh?
>>
>>35283444
Almost *too* lucky...
>>
>>35283430
So, about the name. What exactly was wrong with the first suggested name anyway?
>>
>>35283472
As if Fate aspired us to have such shitty luck? AS IF MAYBE THERE'S A SIDEREAL SOMEWHERE?

I'm on to you Del.

I'm the one who made the wake-up-in-human-form post, and while I personally don't plan on voting for anything for at least a couple more days/weeks/months(not sure how this bond thing works) in-universe, I have to tell you that you should expect others to do so at some point, and for it to be requested more often if/when you fulfill the first one. Before you do so, consult us on how to handle the thing, and I'm not talking about votes and suggestions.

The others have more or less made the arguments for me.

I was concerned that it was meant as a gag more than anything, which means it might lack longevity.

More than anything else I didn't want to deal with the challenge of writing about so many different entities with really similar names. I predicted that it would get messy, and it would distract me from everything else if I just had to keep using that name in a manner that wasn't confusing, or unavoidably annoying.

Someone called me a faggot for not being up to the challenge. i don't know about the faggot part, but I really didn't think that I was good enough to do it, or that doing it would have been worth the effort even if I was that good, because then I'd rather be writing other things than endless variations on one name for a gag.

In hindsight, I should have avoided this controversy altogether by just choosing the name myself, or at least assembling a list to choose from.

>>35283510
Do you mean how to put alt-continuity stuff into pastebins, or how to handle writing erotica? Or something else?
>>
>>35283663
>I was concerned that it was meant as a gag more than anything, which means it might lack longevity.
Not really. The Moon named Sun is kind of a cool title.
>>
>>35283682
I'm afraid I have to disagree.

I know that letting that affect a vote is unfair and bad form on my part, and I won't do it again.
>>
>>35283663
>Do you mean how to put alt-continuity stuff into pastebins, or how to handle writing erotica? Or something else?
I meant the techincalities and options involving smut on /tg/. We can dsicuss it now if you want, but I don't think it's really necessary until it comes up.
>>
>>35283711
>>35283663
How about, Zhanshou? I think that fits us more than our current name anyway.
>>
>>35283972
I think we shouldn't do this right now, but if you care about my opinion, I think that's too Asian for the MC, and isn't all that cool-sounding.
"Behead" by itself is kind of cool, but doesn't really fit with our theme, I don't think.
>>
>>35284086
We don't have a theme.
>>
>>35284128
We kind of have the hunter/snake theme going on, but I guess I was really basing things on our behavior up to now.
>>
>>35284128
"Savage, human-eating monster that everyone should fear" is our current theme.
>>
>>35284148
Well, neither of those fit Casimir at the moment either.
>>
>>35284169
Casimir doesn't misfit them though. And I firmly stand with my opinion, that Cassimir with two Ss reminds me of snakes.
Also, though it wasn't my first choice, I'm not sure if changing the name now would be a good idea, after everyone begrudgingly accepted it.
>>
>>35284242
How about Kyógí Zhanshou?
>>
>>35284296
You can't mix Hungarian and Mandarin like that.
>>
>>35284296
I like the name, but this far north it feels too Eastern
>>
>>35284319
Yes you can.
Maybe Vorpal Kyogi then?
>>
>>35284330
What are you trying to evoke? Try to list the names of characters with similar "archetypes," then mix and match syllables.
>>
>>35284296
>tfw I was the one who suggested Kyógí
You warm my heart anon, but I'm not sure how well that'd work. Would pick it over Sol though, if we can make up a good nickname for it(wouldn't really need to have anything to do with it, heck it could even be Cass to keep some of the original name), at least.
>>35284319
Who are you and how do you know of my secret plan.
>>
What's the Northern theming for names?
>>
>>35284327
We could just been someone from another part of the world who TRAVELED, north, you know.
>>
>>35284420
Family name or title first, given name second
>>
I was thinking, since we've lived around here for a long time and have presumably been killing and eating people for a long time, we probably have a "monster" name that the locals call us, and a "personal" name from back when we were human.

Hard to say what would be a good personal name, since we have basically no knowledge of our pre-Exaltation life.
>>
>>35284481
Cassimir the Carrion?
>>
>>35284477
I think he meant more, is it Russian, Scandinavian, Mongolian, Cree?
>>
>>35284501
Ugh, god no. Have some damn taste.
>>
>>35284477
That's the eastern(+Hun) name order, anon. I'm not sure what the one you responded to was asking about, but I don't think it's that one
>>
>>35284420
Creation is supposed to be insanely big, and the North is like a fifth of the place, could probably get away with anything that sounds good.
>>
How about Okaetor?
>>
>>35284753
Not feeling it, but feel free to give an explanation/background for this one.
>>
>>35284799
How about Inkeikitō then?
>>
Tossing these out:

Monster name (plain English): the Gorging Serpent, the Devourer Wyrm.
Monster name (not plain English): the Kag, Drasken, Vang.
>>
Satsuaga maybe?
>>
>>35284860
You're going for Japanese now? What's it mean?

Also, OP, I recommend including a link to the thread in the twitter announcement.

>announce an hour before starting

>>35284936
>What's it mean?
Dick head.
>>
How about our actual name is Enkidu? We can add a fancy title on later after we've done something notable.
>>
I like Kyogi for a monster name, Casimir for a human name. Probably some family name for Casimir, like... hmm. I dunno, actually.
>>
>>35284985
Enkidu seems good.
>>
>>35284985
I associate Enkidu with gay bears. Not feeling it.
>>
>>35285804
How the fuck do you get gay bears?
>>
>>35285820
Enkidu was a big, muscular, hairy man who had sex with Gilgamesh. That's how.
>>
>>35285836
>who had sex with Gilgamesh
wat
>>
>>35285896
There's a good amount of implications in the Epic of Gilgamesh to the effect that they were lovers. When Gilgamesh has his visions of Enkidu, he bends over objects "as if over a woman," objects whose names can be read as pun on anal sex and such. When Enkidu dies, Gilgamesh weeps "like a bride." Stuff like that. I'm doing this from memory, so none of that's exact.
>>
>>35286017
Well, you say that but there's several names for Enkidu, like Enkita, more female names.
It's all quite possible he wasn't male.
