In the advanced city of Zawame, sometime in the near future, people are living longer and healthier lives thanks to the advancement of medical technology. The Yggdrasil Corporation, set up in the center of the active town, provides for most everything the city needs for living and growing, omnipresent in the city's socioeconomic development. While the public face of Yggdrasil exudes a caring and protective company, the people of Zawame have been feeling that the town has resembled a more oppressive castle town, rather than the suburb it once was.

As a result, the young people of Zawame have started banding into dance crews in an attempt to entertain and bring joy back to the public at large, forming a subculture focusing on dance battles and the feuds between different crews. Along with this, a mysterious new game called the "Inves Game" has also been growing more popular, with the use of padlock-like devices called Lock Seeds, and the aforementioned Inves - monster-like beings said to come from a wholly different dimension. Barely anyone who participates in the game knows what the true background of the Lock Seeds are, with their different fruit-themed Inves, but regardless, the two sports - dancing and the Inves Game - have fused together to make the young people's subculture flourish and prosper.

Little do people know just what those LockSeeds, the Inves, and what the town's fate would be...

(Continuing)

Your name is Makoto Kinushima, a young woman who's been dutifully practicing street dancing in the hopes of auditioning to be on one of the main crews in Zawame. With a background in ballet, and some self-taught hip-hop dancing from watching NicoNico videos of dancers in bigger Japanese towns you'd like to think that you've got a good shot at joining the major crews, but there's one thing that's making you nervous...

The fact that up until now, you've been living with your parents, even after graduating high school. It's a stupid worry, yeah, but for some of the more style-focused crews like BARON, Raid Wild and such, this could be a make-or-break criteria. Still, you're hoping that your skills should impress at the next auditions for the crews.

Which are today.

In a panic, you turn off the music in your room, throw on what you think are appropriate street dancer clothes (simple stuff, blank t-shirt and sweat pants) and sprint out the door, quickly saying goodbye to your mom and dad as you burst out the door. You only had 15 minutes from now to make it to the auditions, before they'd close the line to any more participants. This might be your last chance, given your failed auditions for the last 3 years. Now was your last chance to give it a shot before most of the good crews would just laugh you out of the audition before even starting the music.

Biking down the road, your legs carrying you faster than you've ever gone before on the rickety old bike your parents gave you, you manage to make it to the Zawame Corner, the main location for crew battles as well as the INves Game tournaments - not that you've ever played in them before, playing with otherworldly monsters seemed to rub you the wrong way for some reason. Regardless, you manage to park your bike, secure it, and jump in line just as one of the members from BARON puts up the sign saying "LINE CLOSED." You made it.

Now was the moment of choice - you're confident you could impress most any of the teams who were auditioning for new members. The way the auditions worked was that you'd be trying to follow a routine with a bunch of the other auditioners, and the team leaders would be watching to determine who they wanted to give another shot to, and who to give the boot to. You're not really sure what happens after that - you've been given the boot already enough as it is, and half of you is expecting to have that happen once more.

You go to the young recruiter at the front table, give your name, and already you can hear some of BARON who are watching you begin to chuckle under their breath. You can make out some of the words:
>"She's trying again...?"
>"Strong, sure, but skilled?"
>"More like stupid."

You know BARON's the lead team right now, dominating the leaderboards above the rest, and are led by Kaito Kumon, a man who values internal strength above the others. The rest of his team seem to typically view strength as less important than skill and trickery, but if Kaito's anywhere near them, that mentality's shut down immediately. If you were to do good enough to be selected for Baron, you'd be truly respected.

However, there's Gaim here as well, led by Yuya Sumii. Gaim's known for having a more "have fun" attitude for dancing, something you've always respected. Kouta Kazuraba, the second best dancer in the leaderboards at the moment, is a member of Team Gaim, though as you look over at the location where Gaim's hanging out, you don't spot him.

A couple other teams are here - Raid Wild, animalistic and fierce; Invitto, an all female crew aside from its leader, Jonouchi Hideyasu; and others. You decide to focus on appealing to these four, but which one will you be aiming to appeal to the most with your take on the routine?

For more info about Baron:
>Baron typically dresses in a uniform as depicted in the pic related. Not much difference between members to personalize each person's uniform.
>As long as Baron's been around, there has been NO female members. Typically it's because Kaito Kumon's got some kind of aversion to how most females dance. This doesn't mean he isn't open to the possibility, but it's just been more difficult to get girls to impress him.

>(6, 7, 10) Exceptional success!

You decide to avoid the two obvious choices in Gaim and BARON, and instead go for Raid Wild. Hase, the leader of the much smaller, but still powerful, Raid Wild is in the judges' seats as the music for the routine starts, and you immediately get to work.

It's a challenge, given that most of your hip-hop skills are self-taught and don't quite match up with those that have gotten training from other members. However, as the music ends, you feel that you did a pretty damn good job, especially for your first public "performance".

The 10 or so auditioners on the stage shuffle restlessly as the four leaders of the teams discuss amongst themselves. Then, surprisingly, Hase of Raid Wild speaks first.

>"Kinushima Makoto, raise your hand!"

You comply, surprised at the callout as the first choice.

>"You didn't happen to bring some black and yellow, did you?" Hase asks with a smirk, motioning to you.

It seems you were first-round pick for Raid Wild, no less! The excitement is clear on your face, and applause echoes around the space as you exit the stage to go with the four or five other Raid Wilders behind Hase. You stand out a bit, especially since you're the only girl on Raid Wild as of current, but still! One of the younger members hands you a black and yellow shirt, with the Raid Wild symbol on it, and you immediately don it.

>Acquired [Raid Wild Insignia]!
>Became member of Raid Wild!

The rest of the teams select their new members, with Baron selecting only one member, Gaim selecting two, and Invitto selecting one. The rest are sent home, some of them with their spirits visibly broken while others seem to be doing okay.

As the auditions are broken down, you already hear the intro for "Beat Rider Hotline", the internet radio show focusing on the dance battles and Inves Game culture of Zawame, starting up on many people's phones and laptops in the area.

>"HELLO, ZAWAME CITY, and all you Beat Riders! Welcome to DJ Sagara's live broadcast!"

The exaggerated voice of Sagara was familiar to any dancer (called by him and the comunity as "Beat Riders") in Zawame. He kept the community up to date with the newest happenings in the scene.

>"The auditions for the leading Beat Rider teams went off today with a bang, as it appears Raid Wild earned a lucky pick with choosing a surprise hit amongst the judges! Makoto Kinushima, who's audiitoned many many times before to no avail, wowed the judges and audience with an amazing performance, even impressing Baron's Kaito himself! We'll see just how much the face of the Beat Rider team will change with this new hit addition!"

The rest of the hotline goes without much notice, but you do hear that reportedly, Kouta Kazuraba has quit from Team Gaim. According to Sagara, he's attempting to focus more on getting a job and supporting his family, given he's raising his sister and himself without parents. You shrug, as Hase brings your attention back to the real world.

>"Okay, okay, apparently we're on the news! This could be great, but we're nowhere near out of the doghouse. We've got a battle in two days with Baron, and if we don't manage to beat them, we might as well kiss our chances of getting more territory goodbye."

The rest of Raid Wild nods in agreement with you, but Hase turns to you specifically.

>"With you, we might just have a chance of success. You're in, right?"

>Yes

You nod in agreement as well. He looks both excited and relieved.

>"Glad to know. Wouldn't help if you were to turn us down at this point. With you, we might be able to rival, if not beat, Baron. They might be good, but not /that/ good."

Sure seems like this pick might have gotten to his head, but given you just made the team, you can't really blame him.

>"Anyway, we need to get you up to speed on everything going on at the moment with the wars, unless you've been keeping up already?"

You nod again, and recount what you know about Raid Wild. Most of the public's a bit hesitant when it comes to Raid Wild, as the team has a ferocious and even hostile feel to it. Raid Wild's ranked third, behind Baron (1st) and Gaim (2nd), with Invitto coming up behind, and most of the much smaller teams fighting to be on the leaderboards soon after. Because of this hostile feel that surrounds them, Raid Wild has difficulty winning against bigger, more popular teams, as it feels like they're the "evil" team compared to Gaim or Invitto. This is mostly perpetuated by Hase's mentality of going hard during fights, and pushing his team to not think so much as do what feels right during a dance.

Hase nods, impressed that you're able to see so much of why Raid Wild's image is the way it is. He then speaks up.
>"Now that you know the outside, it's time to know some of the inside of the wars."

He begins to tell you about some of the internal conflicts between the teams:
>Gaim and Baron are constant rivals, though with the loss of Kouta, Baron's starting to gain territory and popularity.
>Invitto and Raid Wild are planning to form an alliance to go against Baron, though more time is necessary to get what they need.

He also mentions that there's been reports of much more variants of Inves that are being used in the game. He shows the team, and you as well, the two lockseeds he currently owns - a Shika (sunflower seed) Lockseed, a standard for any team wanting to participate in the Inves game, and a Matsubokkuri (Pinecone) Lockseed. The Pinecone lockseed he seems to hold a little tighter.

>"I paid a lot of money to Sid for this Lockseed, and so far it's been doing us some good, but not enough. Hoping we can get ourselves a couple more, but each Lockseed's usually about as much as a week's pay. And if we keep up our losing streak, we're gonna not be able to afford getting better ones."

>"Unless," he mentions, "anyone wants to throw in some cash for a trip to Sid's?"

Most of the Raid Wild members frown and shake their head, but you know that thanks to saving some money week to week, you should be able to have enough money to buy your own Lockseed. If you wanted to impress Hase and the team, you could back the purchase of a Fruit-class lockseed. Though, not only will the Lockseed not belong to you specifically, you're going to be out of money for a while and the purchase isn't gonna be easy to qualify to your parents.

You could also get your own Lockseed with this money, but that might not go over so well with the team.

>Wait until later and purchase your own.

You shake your head to the negative. He frowns a bit, but nods. "Figures, but that can't be helped. Rent and all that." He sighs, but pockets the two lockseeds.

>"Alright, kids, we gotta meet up tomorrow around 12, we'll get lunch and then practice. same place as usual. Got it?"
The team nods, and Hase instructs you to come to the Drupers bar near your house. YOu're kind of surprised that their meeting place is so close to where you live, but it can't be helped.

As the 6 of you split up, you make sure none of the Raid Wild members are following you, then make your way to Drupers. Most Beat Riders hang out here, but this is also where Sid, the Lock Seed Dealer, typically does his business. The price of Lockseeds is fairly high, but having one of them does give a lot of status in the Beat Rider community.

Sid looks up from his laptop, his suitcase carrying his wares sitting next to him. HIs face is impassive.
>"You aiming to buy today, Kinushima? Or just browse?"

It's a bit of surprise that Sid knows your name... but give that Beat Rider Hotline was on the TVs in Drupers, and your face was just on the earlier broadcast, you reason most everyone remotely involved in the Beat Rider community probably knows your face at this point.

You nod when he says buy, and he gets a little smirk. He turns his tablet to you, with listings of the current LockSeeds he's selling. Most of the stuff he's selling is actually pretty expensive, but still within your budget. Most of the stuff you see, like the Ichigo Lockseed (Strawberry), Matsubokkuri Lockseed, and other Class C seeds are pretty appealing, but Sid also has a tab called "Special Offers."

>"Y'know, if you're interested in the more expensive Lockseeds, I can give you a bit of an offer. I've got a few experimental lockseeds, along with a special device to use with them. I can give you one of these Lockseeds for free, but I need you to experiment with them. The temptation is real, surely it is. It would help Raid Wild gain more reputation for having such a new and unique Lockseed... But the risks are too high. If they're experimental, there's little that we know about what it could do. What if the Inves were too powerful to escape the holding fields people play the Inves Game within? What would happen then?

You shake your head to the negative.
>"Nah, I'll just pick from your normal stock. Maybe later."

Sid nods impassively, returning to the listings for the normal Lockseeds. Currently here's what he has available:

>Dragonfruit
The Dragonfruit lockseed has, as expected, a pattern on the outside resembling said fruit - magenta with green "leaves" on the outside. It has a marking of LS-17.
Sid remarks that the impressions the makers of the Lockseeds have about it is that there's a more fire-oriented tendencies. Again, he mentions, it's rather untested, so they don't know much about it.

He does show you the device, which you haven't seen before. It looks like a massive belt buckle, with... a knife on it? Hard plastic, but aside from the knife-like lever on it, there's no insignia or anything.

The temptation is too great, sadly. Your original motive, of saving your money, is overwhelmed by the sheer power that this Dragonfruit lockseed could hold. So what if it's potentially dangerous? The Lockseeds are the way you're going to be able to help you boost Raid Wild to the top!

>"I'll take it."

Sid smirks, and reaches into his suitcase, from which he draws out the Dragonfruit Lockseed and the blank device. He puts them in your hands, and looks you directly in the eye.

>"Listen close, Kinushima. The Lockseeds themselves already transmit info on their win/lose data to the organizers of the Inves Game, but what I need you to do is report to me - and me alone - about what the Inves can do. I do not care if it wins or loses, just that we can research what it does. If anyone asks about its origin, tell them it's a rare version. The offer is open to anyone who wants in, but given how unstable the Inves are sometimes, other Beat Riders will probably refuse at first.
The next words are hissed with secrecy.
>"Second, and this is most important. If ever something dire happens - i.e. an Inves, for some unknwon reason, breaks free of the holding fields - put the device on your waist, and put the Lockseed in. From there it'll be clear what you need to do."
>"Do not, under any circumstances, use this except for the aforementioned emergency. Don't walk around with it on, don't play with it. It's not a toy, it's extremely important equipment and, more specifically, my property. I only have a limited amount of these things, do NOT go fucking around with it. You hear?"

You nod eagerly, before he leans back and smirks.

>"Go now, Kinushima. You've gotten what you've came here for. Don't want to attract any undue attention, now."

You stuff the belt buckle-like device and lockseed into your backpack, and give a goodbye wave to Sid as you leave. All the while, it's almost as if you can feel something in the air. You're not sure what it is.. but it's not pleasant.

That night, you're at home on the internet, reading various image boards like you're wont to do. One of them, /br/, is focused on the Beat Rider culture, with news and discussion about the latest happenings.

The first thread you see on the board is that Team Gaim's leader, Yuya, has been reported missing that night by Mai, another member of Gaim. Posting with her own tripcode, she says that Yuya had wanted to meet up with Kouta Kazuraba that night to discuss something, "something to get a leg up on Baron", but Kouta reported that he wasn't at the meeting place. No sign of him was found in his room, as if he had simply wandered off, and his things hadn't been disturbed.

This shocks a lot of the readers, and yourself - Yuya wasn't typically the kind of person who would require outside help to participate in any battle, dance or Inves. Mai said she had no idea what he was talking about, but she's tried texting him, e-mailing, calling - all to no avail.

The second thread is that people have been reporting that some of the smaller Inves Lockseeds, if dropped, are able to release their specific INves outside of the holographic rings they fight in, into the real world. They come out as human-sized, but can effectively be beaten back. Still a scary thought... was Sid right about Inves risking the real world?.

You decide that enough is enough for one night, and roll over to sleep, clutching the Dragonfruit Lockseed to your chest. It seems to be slightly warm to the touch.

>The next day...

You wake up surprisingly early. Around 8 AM, you're brought to the real world from your dream - a nightmare involving a very strangely colored forest, with thousands of purple lychee-like fruit on the trees. You also saw a lot of the Shika Inves roaming around it, consuming the strange fruit, but as to what it could mean, you have little clue.

Look into a martial arts class. Some of them are based on dancing, others can easily be worked into it. Gives our moves a unique feel and also serves for self-defense without needing to drop cash on a tazer or mace or something.
>>
>>35241145

Some choices you could do:
>Given you're living with your parents after graduating high school, you could look for a job for some extra cash
>Practice dancing, to get warmed up for later and to keep your skills sharp
>Experiment with the device and Lockseed, seeing what exactly it is supposed to do
>Etc.

>Five minutes is up.

Zawame City has a multitude of different martial arts classes that are offered, most of them free of charge for basic skill levels, but for more advanced practice requires actual money.

Here are some of the classes currently being offered that you could take. You can take more than one, but you'll be extremely fatigued (which will negatively affect your rolls via negative modifiers)

>Capoeira, a foreign dance-like martial art, focusing on movement and kicks
>Karate, with forms and placement
>Judo, relying on throws and body momentum

Which would you like to choose? [10 minutes time limit]
>>
>>35241280

>Karate, with forms and placement

Capoeira would be the easy and most obvious choice, but I'd rather go with something that gives us solid fundamentals that fit Raid Wild's style.

While this is a bit metagame-y, considering what's about to actually happen, we might want to pick something that's combat-efficient over dance-savvy. They can all fit the latter role, but I'd rather have striking power for what's about to come.

In an amazing feat of motivation, you decide that laying around here might be fun, but if you're going to be a credit to the team, you might want to start some practice in martial arts. Given the ferocious, combat-like dancing that Raid Wild specializes in, it would most certainly help the team stand apart, even if you're new.

You bring a change of clothes, the new Lockseed and device (just in case), and make your way downtown, to one of the community centers - of course, set up and managed by the Yggdrasil Corporation. Nothing inherently bad about them, but you're seeing their logo and title everywhere, it's eerie. Regardless, you sign up for the free class, get changed quickly, and get involved.

In the class are people of varying ages, ranging from a little kid no older than 12 to even a middle-aged housewife - perhaps the kid's mom, given the similarities. There's about 15 people in the class, led by a wholly unremarkable sensei whose name you immediately forget once the 2 and a half our class is done.

>Your status is FATIGUED. (-1 modifier for physical rolls until status is fixed.)
>You now have basic martial arts knowledge!

Given you've never attended a class involving martial arts before in your life, it's a new kind of workout, but you don't feel like you suffered for nothing. Your muscles feel sore and more than a little tired, but you feel excited as well with the adrenaline in your system.

It's almost time to meet up with your team, however, and with another bike ride you arrive at the restaurant Drupers, the same one where you obtained the Lockseed.

Hase frowns a bit, but nods.
"Do as much as you can for practice, but if you're not feelin' too hot, take a break. We need you in fighting form for tomorrow."

You nod, and together the team travels to an underpass, painted with yellow and black graffiti - all in Raid Wild's symbols and colors. Apparently this was the place where they've designated their home area, or at least their practice area. However, something's immediately wrong when the team makes it there.

The word "BARON" has been spraypainted over the tags of Raid Wild, solid red and in the same art style.

Hase drops his bags, silent for a moment while the other team quietly wonders what this is about. He touches the marking, and you can visibly see the fury in his posture. Slowly, he turns back to the group.

>"They're trying to provoke us, to shake our motivation," he growls. The familiar ferocity of Raid Wild shows in his voice. "They're trying to fuck with us. How disgraceful.. I thought Baron was better than that."

Despite your fatigue from the morning's karate practice, you keep up swimmingly along with the Raid Wild. It might be your spirit's been influenced by how much Hase is getting into the practice. Your martial arts training that you've received this morning's also been helping you with timing and accentuating your moves, and it seems some of the other members next to you are taking some of your little flairs to add to their own movements.

So far, the practice is going great. Morale is high, Hase's anger is turning to confidence, and it seems that Raid Wild actually has a chance at competing with Baron tomorrow. If you just keep this up, you guys will be able to even take some of Baron's territory.

The practice ends, everyone laughing as they're heading off. Hase turns to you.

You agree, heading with the team to the open stage in the middle of Zawame, near the Yggdrasil Corporation building in the center. You can already hear music playing - clearly some kind of battle is going on the stage, but for what purpose you're not sure. This could be an Inves or Dance battle, for all you know.

As you get to the stage, you see... Gaim and Baron are both on the stage, standing off against each other. Mai, the lead girl from Gaim, is at the front, Yuya still missing from their lineup. Zack from Baron, standing proudly in front of Baron's uniformed team... but they seem to be missing one.
And in their hands, are Lockseeds. An Inves battle, it seems. Two of the smaller ones are currently duking it out, both the normal Inves. Mai is holding one of the Sunflower Lockseeds, while Zack's holding his Matsubokkuri Lockseed.

Raid Wild watches the fight with awe, but that feeling of something not matching up reoccurs...

You notice that Peko, another member of Baron, is curiously sitting out of the fight altogether, in the crowd of people watching. He seems to be stariing directly at Zack, but there's too many people in the crowd as it is to determine what's going on, and why he's sitting out.

Soon enough, however, the truth is made clear. A small projectile sails directly for Mai's hand - the one holding her Lockseed - and hits it squarely, enough for Mai to drop the Lockseed. As soon as it hits the floor, the Inves on Mai's side whips its head and body around to face team Gaim, and with a few lumbering steps, breaks the barrier between the real world and the holographic barrier.

Immediately the crowd panics, the Inves screeching at team Gaim as they scramble to get away. Mai's Lockseed is knocked away from her in the scramble, and Raid Wild is also struggling to stick around in the torrent of people evacuating. Zack's got a stupid grin on his face, leaning on his buddy's shoulder proclaiming:
>"Hey, don't you know not to drop your Lockseed during a fight?"

It doesn't seem like this Inves is going to go away by itself, but in order to return it to the dimension it came from you need to get the Lockseed and activate it. Alternatively, you could take the more direct approach...

Fate or coincidence, whatever it might be - Mai's lockseed bounces right next to your feet. An Inves doesn't need to be exterminated just yet - only sent back.

You pick up Mai's Lockseed, open it - opening the zipper-like portal to the strangely colored forest-like background dimension, which the Inves hastily jumps back into - and close it once more, sealing the portal.

A sigh of relief goes over the crowd, as you step out from the huddle that Raid Wild's seemed to get themselves into. Mai and Team Gaim turn to you, in surprise, whereas Zack and Team Baron turn as well.

This lockseed doens't belong to you, but do you want to say anything before giving it back to Mai, or doing something else with it?

Hase watches as you pitch it effortlessly to Mai. Despite the kicking and trampling, the Lockseed seems to have a couple fights left in it. You quip:
>"Figured you might want this back. Consider a keychain or a wrist strap for your Lockseed if dropping them is this dangerous."

Mai catches it with a little stumble, but seems highly embarassed and fuming. Without so much as a single nod of thanks, she hurries off of the stage, the rest of Team Gaim following soon after. Team Baron calls them out, however:

>"Since you had to recall your Inves first, we win by default,"
Zack taunts. Peko and the rest of Baron are grinning like hyenas...

And this grin is beginning to piss you off. You step forward again and call out the two of them.

>"OI! YOU TWO!"
Your voice carries well in this arena, catching the crowd's attention.
>"Since when was fighting dirty a tactic of Baron's to use? I thought Baron was about outright strength, not cowardly trickery."

A resounding "OOOOOOOOOOOH" can be heard among the crowd, and even from Raid Wild. Hase steps beside you, whispering in your ear
>"Is this really the best idea, Makoto-chan? We're going to fight them tomorrow, no need to provoke them even further."

Zack, however, looks torn between trying to keep up his arrogant exterior and pissed that he and Peko were found out.

>"What, you got a problem with that? We win by any means necessary, even if our opponents have to run into some trouble. The Inves Game doesn't make any rules about outside interference, right?"
Another bout of hyena-like laughter, and without thinking you ROAR in anger at Baron.

>"SHUT YOUR DIRTY MOUTHS! Nothing but scoundrels and cheaters, ALL OF YOU."

Zack hops off of the stage, heading directly towards you. His Lockseed in his hand, thumb on the trigger again. Still smirking, though you can see the anger written on his forehead.

>"You got a problem with that? We'll settle this tomorrow."
Raid Wild immediately follows, getting hype in its own right (except for Hase) as the little group walks away. Zack takes what feels like forever to come up with a response, but by the time you leave the arena, his response is inaudible.

When you get back with the team, Hase immediately gets in your face. Not exactly angry, but he's definitely in need of an explanation.

You reply with your own smirk.
>"You might like it."

From your bag, you retrieve the Dragonfruit Lockseed and show it to the team. A bunch of confusion is shown on their faces, as they take a look at it. Mentions of "I've never seen that Lockseed before" among very similar concerns can be heard.

You pull out the device from your bag, no change has happened to it since you've obtained it. Most of the people looking at it are confused, having never seen it before. You put it to your hips, and without warning it attaches to your hips with a bright yellow belt, along with a couple holsters to hold... whatever that comes with it.

>"And now that we got the safety device active, I figure we could test how well this baby does and surprise them with something they'll be seeing a lot more."

Hase remains silent for a little bit before nodding. Before looking down at the device, and scratching his hair.

You do not recall there being one, but when you look at the belt once more, there's some sort of helmet-like design on the left side of the device. It looks pretty cool, but again, you don't feel any different. You decide to write it off for now.

The fight's to go down at noon, same as the others. Free Performance Zone, for control over the Underpass and the surrounding areas. If you lose, Raid Wild will have to relocate and fight some of the smaller teams for even home space. If you win, you can challenge for more of Baron's territory, and put a huge dent in their popularity and leaderboard ranking.

Beat Rider Hotline's already abuzz, most everyone who's into Beat Rider culture talking about you, the "New Kid", setting the stage for Baron to fight back even harder than before. Most of the coverage by DJ Sagara focuses on you being the frontman for Raid Wild, and Kaito pretty much trying to guarantee victory in a proclamation. The camera for this segment focuses directly on him and his face as he speaks.

>"Kinushima Makoto, you may be a fresh newborn to the war here in Zawame, but I will not even forgive such a transgression against our reputation. Your destruction will be wholesale and swift."

All talk, in your eyes. You don't forgive cheaters, and one bad apple has clearly spoiled the entire bunch. Now was the time to take Baron down a notch.

The popular ratings put Raid Wild at a small disadvantage, but compared to the last battle between Raid Wild and Baron, your odds of victory are a lot better. The balance rests between 40 to 45 percent in favor of Raid Wild.

And if all else fails, you still have your secret weapon.

You and the rest of Raid Wild get on the stage, Hase of course leading the pack but you standing close behind. Your bag, holding the device formerly on your hip, is securely within your visionn and reach. Do you want to show off your Lockseed, visible to the crowd, or would you rather keep it hidden for the sake of a surprise later?

You decide to put your own Lockseed in your pocket, secure enough (thank you based zippers) that it won't bounce out while dancing. If necessary, you'll have it readily available to pull out and use.

You're Raid Wild's ace in the hole, and to play your cards so early in the battle would surely bring defeat.

The match begins, and due to your training and rest, plus the morale of the team, you're neck and neck in the fight for the audience's vote. Every move feels natural and exuding with power and intensity, what Raid Wild's known for, and the expressions on Hase's face are showing that you're of the same mind. Baron, on the other hand, seems to be struggling a bit. Kaito's apparently having a difficult time keeping his crew in line, with Zack especially not quite in sync with the crew. What you said yesterday clearly shook him, and his discord is slowly affecting the crew. Some of Baron is looking at him with disdain and confusion. Morale is fairly low.

The dance ends, and the results come in after a harrowing wait for the polls to close.
It's completely even.

Not even a single percentage point one way or the other.

This stuns both Baron and Raid Wild, who take it as a failure and a success respectively. Never has Baron tied with a team before, and never has Raid Wild been able to tie with a team, especially with Baron.

This just infuriates Zack, who tries muscling past Kaito as the teams face off once more on the stage.

You reach your hand into your sweats pocket, but don't bring out the Lockseed nor activate it yet. You know that a Matsubokkuri is fairly strong, but from Kaito's showing off of /three/ Sunflower lockseeds, one versus three is going to absolutely destroy him. However, you do say
>"I've got your back, don't worry. We can do this."
to him. He nods, trying to keep on a brave face.

Kaito smirks, and at the same time, all three of Kaito's lockseeds and Hase's lockseed open.

>"MATSUBOKKURI!"
>"HIMAWARI!"

Two zipper portals open, and four Inves jump out into the quiickly forming holographic ring. Three Sunflower inves, one slightly bigger Matsubokkuri Inves.

Hase's gonna get wrecked, if it wasn't painfully clear by now. And as the fight begins, it's evident. Hase's Inves is taking a beating, even without Zack and Peko trying their bullshit (Kaito's even looking behind him from time to time to make sure they're not up to any funny business.)

Soon enough, Hase's Inves is on the ropes, visibly tired and holding on for dear life. If this were to keep up, Raid Wild is going to surely lose, despite all the time put into training. Raid Wild's home, its reputation, its members' reputation, is on the line...!

You take action at this point.
Without revealing what's in your pocket, you click the Lockseed. Its voice rings true, almost scaring you at how sudden it is.

>"DORAGON FURUTSU!"

A much larger zipper portal appears in the air next to the ring, dropping a human-sized Inves into the ring. It's much more detailed than the other Inves in the ring, with a clear dragon motif - scales of magenta and green, a lizard-like head and tail, and claws for days - and within seconds, completely destroys Kaito's Inves.

To no surprise. You hear the "You Win! Rank Up!" from your Lockseed, but as you try clicking the Lockseed to send yours home...

It refuses. The portal opens up, indeed, but it seems to ignore it, instead turning to face Hase's Inves with a hunger you could only describe as feral. Hase clearly is panicked, and so is most of Team Baron (aside from the coolest cucumber out there, Kaito) and he attempts to send his Inves back as well, which manages to go off successfully. Hase breathes a sigh of momentary relief, before the crowd quietly watches. Murmurs of "Isn't the battle over?" "What's going on wiht that Inves?" and so on echo across the audience, and their worry is quite evident - and warranted.

The Inves you summoned is pacing, back and forth, on all fours. Sniffing at the air around it, moving directly towards Kaito - given that he's still clutching three Lockseeds. Kaito takes a step back, as the Inves presses hard against the boundaries of the ring...

...and it bursts open almost instantaneously. Panic and fear sets in once more to the crowd, as this Inves roars with freedom and hunger on its mind. Baron flees, while Kaito tries to stand firm, taking a martial stance.

Raid Wild's panicking as well, Hase asking you what's going on with panic in his voice. You were warned about this by Sid, and now it's happening. Exactly as he predicted.

You call to the Inves. It doesn't work too well, but once you throw a rock at the Inves, it catches its attention. Kaito stops fleeing to watch, confused a bit.

You rummage into your bag, pull out the belt, and jam it onto your hip. Immediately, the belt forms, and a little Japanese-styled tone rings out. You pull out the Lockseed from your pocket, tossing it a couple times.

Deciding not to waste breath on something that was animalistic as such, you jam the Lockseed into the location for it, and push down on the lock.

>"LOCK ON!"

A warhorn sounds, with a little beat playing, but other than that, nothing seems to happen. There must be some other button or somethign to make this work, right--

As your hand brushes the knife lever, it tilts down and "cuts" the Lock Seed open, revealing that it was on a hinge - a crossection of a dragonfruit is on the inside, along with a depiction of a pair of claws.

>"Let's dance."

"SEIYAH" goes the belt, and you hear a zipper undo itself above you. You look up, and there's some form of massive dragonfruit slowly floating down to your head. There's a hole for your head to go in, but the joints and such in the surface of the dragonfruit that makes you confused. Regardless, logic takes over, and you align your head to fit in the hole.

For a second, all you can see is dimly-lit metal around you. Nothing fancy, but you can immediately feel something cover your clothign and body from head to toe, like a suit of thick, protective clothing. Soon after, a helmet of metal seems to materialize on your head, locking your vision forward before you can feel a visor come on as well.

Then your vision expands, as the mechanical dragonfruit unfolds, like a blossom that covers your chest, back and shoulders. It looks like scalemail has formed where the dragonfruit "blossomed", and you...

look awesome.

On your hip is a sword...gun... thing, and in your hand that materializes shortly after is a punching dagger in the form of a large claw, covering your forearm and extending about the same length. The color scheme appears to be magenta with a white suit, and green accents.

AND OH GOD DO YOU FEEL POWERFUL. Adrenaline and hype is surging through your veins, and while you may not have your full appearance in mind, you can see Kaito staring at you in a bit of awe and surprise.

(8.+3 = 11)

You try putting what little martial arts training you received yesterday to use, and go on the offensive. You draw your sword in your other hand, your claw manifesting in your right, and you start hauling into the Inves. Hits land as if it was instinct, and the Inves is having no chance to fight back. It's a one-sided fight, as sparks fly off of the monster's body and it's sent back into the wall of the arena.

And you didn't even break a sweat.
You hop from foot to foot, still pumped for a fight, when the Inves dislodges itself from the wall, and despite all the damage, still hauls after you in response! It may be because of the scales of metal you see on its exterior, but this thing is resilient! Thankfully, you're prepared, able to counter and even score some hits on unarmored pieces, such as under its arms and even to its wing-like parts on its back.

Out of the corner of your vision you can see people watching the fight (from afar, for safety's sake) and some of them are even recording the fight. A couple are cheering for you, which helps bolster your morale a bit. And serves to piss the Inves off...

...Enough to provoke it to launch a magenta-colored fireball at the crowd! It's flying at a fast speed, and if you dont' act soon, it's going to harm innocents!

You HAUL ASS to try to intercept the ball of flame, and you just manage to catch it on the tip of your claw, before sending it right back to him. He's knocked back a bit, but this only spurs him to direct more fireball blasts at you.

You're on a fucking roll right now, and using the same technique you just used, you manage to hit more and more fireballs into the sky, until he stops his assault because you're just juggling all of his attacks right in the air for everyone to see.

Indeed, as you're demonstrating almost unreal skill with this (you've never juggled a single ball in your life) you toss the fireballs all into the sky, where they explode into magenta flames and sparks. Nice fireworks, nerd...

Rule one indeed. You manage to get a grip on the sword, finding a trigger, and pulling back the slide. Lights on the blade light up, and you immediately pull the trigger, unloading some kind of ammunition directly into the ball of flame. As expected, the fireball erupts without warning, damaging the Inves and geting rid of the risk to the citizens. You turn to them, while you have the chance.

>"Get out of here while you still can! I'll hold it off!"

Your voice is modulated a bit through the helmet, but a few of the crowd nods and hurries to exit the arena. Most everyone's out by the time the INves is on its feet once more, where it lets out a LOUD roar directly at you. If you hadn't pissed it off thoroughly by now, you sure as hell have done it then.

ANd then you notice, on your sword, that there is a slot for your LockSeed to hang. Without hesitation, you unlock your Lockseed from your belt and attach it to the sword, where you hear it cry
>"DORAGONFURUTSU SLASH" as it lights up in magenta. You rush at the Inves, and manage to get a good slash of magenta flame right across his chest, sending showers of sparks off of it and giving it clear battle damage. But despite it, it's still standing.

You re-attach the Lockseed to your belt, but before you get a chance to do anything else, the Inves falls over. Not dead, no explosions yet, but it's clearly hurting. And you hear a female voice, almost otherworldly, from behind you. Human, but there's something else behind it.

>"Be warned. Your choice now will turn the course of fate."
>Continued...
>>
>>35245893
You turn, and... you're not sure, but you could swear that girl looks like Mai. The Mai that had stomped off yesterday, but Gaim was nowhere near the fight. So who is this girl? She wears a white dress, shoulder-less, with black belts slumped along her hip, and white arm sleeves. Very strange, and even stranger given her blonde hair. She looks completely serious as she continues, irregardless of the Inves in pain. The world seems to distort and warp as she talks, as if skipping on a CD.

>"You will have to fight to the bloody end, till the world is dyed in your image."

At this point, you're in no position to dispute this, due to the fact the suit you're wearing and the weapons you're wielding are what's standing between the Inves rampaging and potentially attacking people, and the innocents. But the choice is, indeed yours. You could shut down the power, walk away, and you're sure no one would really judge you for it. You think.

The Inves manages to scramble to its feet and is starting to bear down on you, it's now or never!

>Do you accept the mysterious woman's offer?

>>

You grit your teeth, frustrated at the position you're in. You were given this thing to help deal with this threat, but if this is somehow tied to changing your destiny after this point, then so be it.
>"Better mine than others'."

You see, nor hear no affirmation from the girl. But you can feel something snap into place - something like a contract, or a changing of your fate. There's no going back now.

The Inves tries swinging its own claws at you, but the fatigue and wounds are getting to it, as you block it with ease. As you block, you notice that your arm claw has a section that seems to accept your sidearm. Putting two and two together, you connect your sword and the claw, forming a fourth cutting surface, and still leaving the access point for the lockseed to attach to.

If that magenta slash did some damage, what could happen with mixing the claw and the sword? You attach your Lockseed to the mixed weapon, and you hear once more
>"DORAGON FURUTSU CHARGE!"
as your entire claw lights up in magenta flame. A second claw manifests in your right hand, and without warning, a ball of magenta flame manifests on the tips of each of the claws. Quickly, you throw them at the Inves, who's summarily engulfed in a ball of magenta fire, almost like a personal bonfire.

Now or never.
Now or never
Now or never.

You rush forward, claws shining, and rip through the Invess and the ball of magenta fire, cutting him asunder and sending the monster to his maker in an explosion of magenta and green flames. You could swear you saw slices of dragonfruit shoot out as well, but it's hard to tell...
>>
>>35246325
As the Inves is purged, you turn once more to where the girl was, but you see no trace of her. You were fairly sure that she couldn't run that fast...

...and then you hear a crowd.

You turn slowly, and the remaining crowd is applauding, cheering and praising you. You can see some of Raid Wild made their way back into the area, clapping as well, but part of you is worried that this isn't the recognition you deserve, nor were aiming for. This was Hase's fight, and not supposed to be yours. Plus, this crowd's a lot bigger than you remember the crowd for the Raid Wild versus Baron fight was. You could publically demask and detransform here, or you could make your exit and detransform elsewhere. A lot of the newcomers probably don't know who you are, you hope, and it could give some anonymity for now.

You give a small, kind of awkward wave to the crowd, then turn your back on them and hurry (more like powerwalking, which just looks funny in a full suit of futuristic armor) out of sight. You close up the Lockseed, and the armor dissipates into magenta and green sparkle.. floaty things. It's not important at the moment, and you write it off as a facet of the newfound power.

And as soon as the transformation is done, you slump to your knees, ungracefully. That took a lot out of you, more than you anticipated. While within the armor you felt like you could go for days, that no pain could ever overcome you. But while out of it, you're painfully reminded that you're only human. Thankfully, you didn't sustain too much bodily damage during the fight, but this is again chalked up (in your mind) to luck, and not really skill. For a reportedly unstable and highly dangerous Inves, it posed rather little challenge.

But the woman's words stuck with you. That you'd have to fight until the world was "dyed in your image"... what did that mean? Was it something that had to do with conquering? Like painting a map in the colors of a faction? Did she reference the Beat Rider conflicts? Or did she mean defeating more Inves, like racking up a score?

It was all too much for someone who's just been through a major fight to think about, and you figure you need a lot more rest to figure out how to exactly use this power. It doesn't seem to be a drain on anything but your stamina, and the only catch seems to be that mysterious woman's deal.

You decide to head to Drupers, to hopefully run into Sid. However, you do text Hase and the rest of the team to meet you there, mentioning that you're "a little winded".

Understatement of the century.

Eventually, you make your way to Drupers, though it takes you significantly longer than usual because of, well, apparent soreness and stamina drain. You end up walking your bike most of the way there.

As expected, Sid is currently there, but much to your surprise, Kaito's beaten you to the punch. As you walk in, Kaito pushes his way past you, giving you a staredown before silently leaving. Sid watches him go, an amused smirk on his face, before welcoming you in. He leans forward, looking significantly more interested than he did the last time you saw him.

>"So I saw that you made some waves earlier," he begins, hands clasped. "How did it function? What exactly happened? Tell me all about it."

You do so, soon after Hase and the others from Raid Wild walk in. Sid looks over to them, your eyes shortly follow. Hase looks relieved to see you in one piece, but Sid motions for them to find a seat. This might take a while.

After you finish up, Sid relaxes a bit. Hands behind his head, looking at you.

>"Now that you've taken a taste of it, the question now is, do you want to continue down this path? You do know that just prior to you walking in, Kumon Kaito had inquired about obtaining a Sengoku Driver of his own, correct? This is going to change the dynamic of the games completely."

>"I want Hase to get a... Sengoku thing. Driver, whatever. He's the leader of Raid Wild, not me. Or can I give him my driver? How's that work exactly?"

Sid motions Hase to come in, and he does so. Raid Wild waits outside the archway dutifully, as Sid begins to fill Hase in on what exactly was given to you.

>"Essentially the belt is a way to utilize Lockseeds, should an Inves get out of hand. Though, again, I'm just the guy that sells them, I can't really dictate what you use them for."

Hase looks a bit uneasy.
>"So if I were to use the Lockseeds I have with the Driver, it'll work?"
Sid nods.

Hase considers this.
>"Does anyone else have these Drivers?"
Sid smirks again, and replies with "It's confidential." Hase's, as expected, not too happy with that.

>"So what's the point in even having them?"

>"Well, you saw it yourself. The higher class Lockseeds have more powerful Inves that, if not careful, can break out and easily cause havoc. As you just saw."

>"I'm not fighting to conquer the world or anything. I just wanna have fun and express myself. If this 'Son Goku' stuff can help me do that, then I'm in."

I leave for ten minutes and we sign ourselves up for a war. Shit, guys, you work fast. I thought we were still beating up the Inves.
>>
>>35247874
My god he's not even hiding that we are guinnie pigs.
>>
>>35247898
Damn it's, I'm late again.
>>
>>35247898
Just wait, in an hour Kaito will have become an Overlord Inves, and by the end of the thread we'll have colonized another planet.
>>
>>35247874
>"You got any other goods?"
Might as well arm up. Also...
>"Any chance I can get an extra belt? I didn't exactly hide that I have one."
>>
>>35247952
At that point we might as well be another Kill la Kill quest.

>>I leave for ten minutes and we sign ourselves up for a war. Shit, guys, you work fast
It only took 2 episodes tops.
>>
>>35247952
We could try knocking him out of the competition early.

Oh god that would probably make things worse.
>>
>>35248058
40 in ten? That's still some magic shit.

>>35248017
Well, yeah, but with that attitude, we could also qualify as a million other quests.
>>
>>35247874
Avoiding spoilers as best as we can without doing anything too meta too fast... We could ask if they are technological, but that would seem a bit too obvious.
"Can you tell us where Lockseeds come from?"
>>
>>35248058
Well its not like we have any real idea of what we did in character.

>"I'm not fighting to conquer the world or anything. I just wanna have fun and express myself. If this 'Son Goku' stuff can help me do that, then I'm in."

>"Oh no one's saying you can't do one and the same. If you want to be a passive force, then you can try. But you just proved you essentially own a nuclear bomb, demonstrated using it on your own Inves, and walked away not only entertaining the crowd but intimidating the other teams. Again, Kaito Kumon was /scared/ of you. Kaito Kumon, the man who preaches that the strength shall decide who is right and wrong. You'll have all of Zawame's Beat Riders after your head, or at least your power soon, if you don't do something about it. What you do is up to you."

Hase bites his thumb, thinking. Then speaks up.
>"What would I have to do to get a Driver? Do I need to sign a waiver or anything? Cause if this power will help us prevail over Baron and take over the leaderboards, I'm all for it."

Sid nods, reaching into his suitcase and handing him the Driver, but not any Lockseeds like he did with you.
>"I can't guarantee any form of success with using this, mind. But if you desire the power, you can have it. Just don't go breaking it. Oh, Kinushima, can you give me your Driver for a second?"

>Hand him the driver?
>>
>>35248237
Give him the driver, what can go wrong? I mean even if it's Sid, I doubt he'll break the Driver to be a dick. At least not yet.
>>
>>35248237
>Yes, clearly this man can be trusted.
How can this possible end poorly
>>
>>35248237
Hand him the driver. He better give us some tune ups. Oh, and tell Hase,

>"Look, boss, don't be scared. You gotta have some faith in yourself if you want this thing to work."

>inb4 Hase fucks up, and we gotta put him down.
>>
>>35248237
Hand over the driver. Even if it lands in Hase's hands, at least we can help him out.
>>
>>35248280
>>35248281
You hand him the driver, and he takes a look at the back. A couple turns of a screw with a screwdriver later, and you see a tiny green blinking light appear on the back of it. He hands it back to you. You see the same light on Hase's driver.

>"There. Now you don't have to report to me every time you do something with the driver. It'll automatically send data back to me and my employers. Have fun, you two."

Sid waves you and Hase off, and as you leave, you tell Hase:
>"Look, boss, don't be scared. You gotta have some faith in yourself if you want this thing to work."

He looks over to you, hesitantly nodding. "You're a prodigy, though, this sort of thing comes naturally to you. Me, this kind of thing takes hard work."
He doesn't seem cheered as you sit once more with Raid Wild. A lot of the other members are asking you tons of questions, but Hase's looking at his driver contemplatively. Not sure what to do with it yet...

>What do you want to do from here?

>Hang with Raid Wild for a while? (Raise morale)

>Hang with Raid Wild for a while.
We might take it easy and reduce stress with them, too. It'll be like hitting two birds with one stone. Besides, the troops probably wanna say something to Hase and Makoto.

>>35248443

And increase our pinecone points.

>After this post I'm going to go to mobile, which means far slower typing or shorter replies. You have been warned.

You decide to recuperate with Hase and Raid Wild, who are riding high over their essential decimation of Baron. Not only did you beat them fair and square in the Inves fight, but since your showing of your weapon and saving the crowd, Raid Wild's ratings have been shooting through the roof. Various comments dot many social media sites:
>"Raid Wild's got a wild child in Makoto!"
>"Why didn't Baron step up and try to take down the INves? What a bunch of cowards!"
>"I wanna join Raid Wild!"
>"Makoto-chan is my waifu 5ever"

The win pushes you higher, and knocks Baron lower. Currently, because of the layout, Gaim is currently first place by default, with Raid Wild now beating Baron by a small amount. In order to secure second place, Raid Wild would have to win once more against Baron in another fight, one you're sure will be coming soon enough.

Further, you see that Raid Wild's territory has expanded to include the Southside, covering more of the park areas of the city, and is getting closer and closer to the Free Performance Zone, the crown territory of the city. Baron still has control over it, but with a couple of matches you should have enough territory to directly challenge for that coveted arena.

As the night progresses, Hase puts away the Driver and joins Raid Wild in celebrating, deciding to put it aside for now until he can get some time to think. One of the Raid Wilders asks for a toast to the long-fought victory, and Hase motions to you proudly.

>What will you say?
>>
>>35248747
I have no idea what to say here...

>Today we beat BARON tomorrow the world.
>>
>>35248976
Please someone come up with something better.

I think I have got something.

>>>35248747
"Guys. I am happy that I had joined Team Wild. I am not the type to make a sweeping speech with metaphors. But I like how our actions have came together to pull off something powerful. A dance that could make a human dance through hot coals."

Pause for effect.

"Now. Today we have beaten BARON. Tomorrow, we shall beat the world with Hase's leadership and our spirit!" Then toast as needed.

"Guys. I am happy that I had joined Team Wild. I am not the type to make a sweeping speech with metaphors. But I like how our actions have came together to pull off something powerful. A dance that could make a human dance through hot coals."

Raid Wild listens intently as you think of what to continue your speech with. However impromptu it might be, you're leaving an impression on them, might as well make it count.

>>35250455
>"We've CLAWed our way past Baron, and we can roast Gaim and take our rightful throne. We'll be the ones that'll pain the city black and yellow, and we'll run free and wild! Hase will lead us to victory, to make Zawame City our Pridelands!"

>"TO RAID WILD!"
>"TO RAID WILD!"
>"TO RAID WILD!"

Hey, that wasn't too bad! Not two days ago you weren't more than a homebody with a penchant for dancing in front of a camera, and now you're the first Armored Rider in Zawame City, beating out Baron alongside Raid Wild. The sun sets on the day, not knowing what tomorrow will bring, but one thing's for sure, your life isn't going to be the same.

In the immortal words of Ice-T, "Today was a good day."

>That's the end of the Episode, sadly! It's getting late on my end, but I'd like to thank you guys for your awesome puns and plans, and for sticking by me through this!
>I'm gonna set up a Twitter for my Quests, please look forward to it! Feedback is more than welcomed after this point, especially constructive criticism!

Nope, though I have done other quests. Most recently was Oceanus Symbologica and New Ocean though in the past I did a semi-Rider quest called Firefly Chevaliere, and Arcturus Quest.
>>
So until I get around to making a quest twitter, my personal one (be warned, there's a lot of semi political stuff on there that i RT) is @transientBard. It's the one with the Kek la Kek background.

Follow me there!
I plan to run these every Wednesday from 11:00 AM EDT to whenever, unless things come up, in which case I'll let people know.
