Also, don't forget about the INSIGHT mechanic! Keep me on my toes, m'kay?
It's just a 1d5 roll, greentext highlighting what you want to know more about, and maybe a question/comment/concern that you want me to shed some light on!

Intro posts incoming!
>>
YOU are Mato Tsuruya. It is the twenty-sixth of the month of July, the birds are singing, the sun is only barely peeking up over the horizon, and you've awoken only because of your phone's incessant boo-dooping.

A cursory glance about the room confirms that you're in Akari's room again- nothing too unusual there- and your phone, screen glowing and little green light blinking, is sitting on the table beside Akari's alarm clock- which is a bit out of your reach.

You can't reach it from where you are, locked in the toasty-warm and loving embrace of your very own red-headed pyromaniac as you are (well, as you assume you are- unlike most days, it seems Akari took it upon herself to be the 'big spoon' this time- normally, you prefer face-to-face, but you're not complaining).

You gently wriggle your way out of her arms, which, though surprisingly strong for someone of her slight build, are still sopping-wet noodles compared to yours, and out from under the covers, causing Akari to give a slight mutter-mumble-groan of protest that's cute enough to send a dagger of 'go back and cuddle her more, you monster' through your heart.

The departure from the covers greets you with a surprisingly-cool breeze on your bathing-suit places*, but you figure it's just the contract between the cool morning air and the soothingly-warm radiance of Akari.

*- NOTE: Mato wears a bikini all the time, so what she means by 'bathing-suit places' is really 'bikini-bottom places'.

L-LEWD?!
>>
You get on your hands and knees and shuffle towards the bedside- and your phone- when a sudden warmth suffuses itself through a hand that has been very abruptly placed on your apparently-bare bum.

You hear a groggy, clearly-still-half-asleep Akari giggle. The hand squeezes a little.
You slowly turn your head to see something black-and-white on Akari's head.

She giggles again.

"Stripes..." she mumble-giggles, half-lidded eyes unfocused and sinking back shut.

You feel your cheeks heat up further.

...

...and you blush, too.

Some time later, you're busily shoveling a sizable mound of pancake into your mouth as Akari apologizes for the... fourth time.

You swallow, forgive her again, shoot her a smile, and resume eating.

Your arms and chest still feel a bit strange- not in a bad way, per se, just a noticeable one. It's almost as if your skin fits over them slightly differently than it used to.

… which, now that you think about it, is probably accurate. You chew thoughtfully as you mull this over, only to be interrupted by your noticing that Akari hasn't really even touched her food.

You place your fork down, its tines hitting the plate with a CLINK, and take in Akari's troubled expression with your full attention.

Your question is a simple one. “Is something bothering you, Akari?”

She starts a little at the sound of your voice- hardly reassuring, that- and, after a moment of hesitation, nods.

You've known Akari for a long time, now. She's always been a little hesitant to trouble others with things that might be bothering her- especially if she's not sure if they're actually important or not.
It's a shame, really, for someone so smart to be so self-doubtful about that sort of thing.

“What is it? Ya wanna talk about it? Is there anything I can do to help?”

She grins a little at your flood of questions, and you feel a bit of relief bubble up inside of your belly. “I, uh-” her smile falters a bit, and you feel a brief desire to forcibly remove the intestines of whoever or whatever it was that could make her smile go away, though it's quickly replaced by worry for the girl herself.

“... I had one of those weird dreams again.”

“One of the ones with Testarossa?” you ask, managing (though only barely) to speak, rather than snarl, the name of your love's tormentor, the purple-haired monster who wants to purge the world of non-espers.

She nods. “Yeah... this one was different, though.”

D-different?!

Akari never acted like this after one of them before...!

You stop squeezing the wooden seat of the chair you're sitting in when you hear the wood complaining under the intense pressure applied by your fingers and palms.
“Akari... are you... are you alright?” Your voice wavers with worry.
That won't do.

You clear your throat and compose yourself. You have to be strong. For Akari!

Cool, calm, collected. Just like Miku-nee taught you.

You look deep into her eyes. “What. Did. She. Do.”

Akari shakes her head.

“It wasn't Testarossa- not this time,” she says, “it was...” She frowns. “... I think I should start from the beginning...”

Continued, obviously!
>>
[A FEW HOURS AGO]

You are Akari Takamichi, and you're almost certain you're asleep.

You're in a... sort of... vague place, like the city you saw before.

It's almost like you're inside of a cloud.

A voice calls out to you. A man's voice, collected and even. It seems to emanate from everywhere and nowhere- at the same time... and it's not nearly as unsettling as you'd think it would be. “Have you ever seen a statue of the anthropomorphic personification of Justice, Takamichi Akari?”

“I have, yes,” you say with a nod. Nee-chan took you on a visit to America awhile back, and-

“Did anything about her strike you as being... odd?”

>Yes. (What was it?)

Eh, it's possible to be incredibly unhinged without falling into snowflake territory, and Personal Reality does include some pretty serious insanity as a prerequisite.
>>
You nod. “Yes. She was wearing a blindfold!”

“Very good, Takamichi-san.” The voice sounds almost... pleased. “You're a smart one, so I can only assume you understand what that represents. Lady Justice being blind, that is.”

You nod.

Of course you do!

“So, then, if I may be so bold... what makes you think that what you intend to do- stopping Precia Testarossa's plan- is the right thing? What makes you think that you're any less blind than Justice itself given human form? Have you ever stopped and considered what you're doing? That there might be a very good reason she's doing what she is?”

>'Is there any possible justification for killing off the majority of the human race and rendering the survivors irredeemably insane?'

You poke his pansy-ass argument full of holes, and there's a pause.

“...Okay, so I'm bad at metaphors! Sue me. My point still stands- you don't know why Testarossa is doing what she's doing, and, believe you me, there's a very good reason. She isn't lying to herself- she's gone mad, and what she's doing is evil beyond all hope of redemption. But it's necessary. Don't you realize what it is that Project Sol Aeternam is doing? Stupid invisible cat-alien-thing. He got Nee-chan, but at least you kept his grubby little (you assume they're little) paws off of your precious Mato!

“All-too aware, I'm afraid,” you answer. “Why?”

“Have you ever considered that they may well be watching us? That they, too, see what a way to generate energy with more-than-perfect efficiency could bring? Power. UNLIMITED power. And any beings advanced enough to be watching us without our knowing are easily advanced enough to wipe us out.”

“... so you want to do their work for them.”

“No. We want to be ready for them. Academy City- and, more importantly, Espers- are the only thing we have, and there just aren't enough of us powerful enough to defend ourselves! It takes awhile for you to process that.

Your brain wasn't really made to handle such... interesting... thoughts.

You patiently and very carefully explain to him just how brain-dead this 'plan' is, pointing out such flaws in it as 'The majority of humanity being wiped out makes it easier to finish the job' and 'maybe if Academy City shared its ridiculous technology with the rest of the world- or at least let them know about these aliens- we'd all have a much better chance' and 'there's lots of things /we/ can do with limitless energy, too, you know' and 'no, seriously, who told you this was a good idea'- listing them all wouldn't be efficient.

>And the more common Level Twos and Threes can be trained and added to normal soldier squads in specialized roles.

>And talking about normal soldier, just give them the high tech equipment Academy City is hoarding. We're 20 years more advanced than anywhere else in the planet. We have Giant Robots, for Christ's sake! Give the tech to America and Europe for production and keep some deactivation codes in case they try to use it agaimst us and suddenly humanity can fight much better.
>>
So how far exactly do we want to take this whole thing? Testarossa is a crazy bitch and I don't want to team up with her, but at the same time I want us to be ready when the aliens inevitably make their move. I suggest we help her out a bit to make sure no one dies, then make tracks and talk to Fate about things.
>>
>>35181100
To clarify, I mean get Accel into space so the Rod From God doesn't burn in the atmosphere and launch it at some Ludicrous Speed. He can manipulate vectors, I'm sure he can use that to manipulate the Kinetic Energy stored in some flywheels to shoot it at some fraction of Lightspeed.
>>
>>35181199
Does Akari even know about Accel?
>>
>>35181199
Do we even need to get him into space? We could always get him to use that "slow-the-earth" trick and launch a few skyscrapers fast enough that the atmospheric resistance is negligible.
>>
>>35181258
I would be surprised if she didn't, judging by his monologues everyone knew who he was and wanted a piece. Judgement probably has him listed as KEEP THE FUCK AWAY though.
>>
>>35181258
Dunno, but we certaimly know that the Level Fives are Crazy and Strong, and we certainly know about Misaka.

Some Level Fives are famous, while others are Classified Information. Accel probably is one of the Classified L5s, and I'm sure the Dark Matter dude (Kakine or something? Never got that far in the light novels) is.

But the gist of the plan should work either way. Hell, replace Accel with "Misaka and Really Long Rails" and the resulting Velocity should be... Sufficient.
>>
>>35181302
The friction should still be too dangerous, and depending on the speed it might even ignite the atmosphere or just burn down the projectile and reduce its mass, speed and thus its energy.

I think one of the XKCD what ifs showed what would happen if you fired a baseball at near light speed. Basically, it becomes a nuke.

Thats our worst case scenario.
>>
>>35181386
I think Accel is officially classified but the rumors are widespread enough that we would at least have something to go on if we had to track him down. Of course, he would probably just kill us, but at least we can try. Going after Kakine on the other hand would be both impossible and a REALLY bad idea.

>>35180998
>>Power serum, not a bad thing. If it kills people though, that means back to the drawing board. Not much point giving power that means you don't have soldiers anymore. Also, did anyone even bother finding out what these aliens actually do ? That assumes real world physics though, and Accelerator doesn't even pretend to play by those rules. Hell, he did exactly that in canon and nobody in the area around the building was at all harmed.
>>
>>35181506
"Jolly" is definitely not the term I would use, but I suppose our interests do align somewhat, at least in the short term.
>>
>>35181516
Yes, that's true.
Also, I don't think the magicians would take some Xeno Scum showimg up and trying to kill everyone well.

We don't know that IC, but just stopping her from killing all non espers already helps us quite a bit, just because we would still have the Catholics and Anglicans magical bullshit and there's that one guy with the ancient Venus-Powered Laser.

Unless the aliens are "lol Sufficient Advanced Technobabble is Indistinguishable from MAGIC" and "We gonna wipe you niggas out with our TOTTALY CLEAN NOT!NUKES" then Humanity can survive at least half a year.

Remember, the RailDex verse is overall "20 minutes into the future" and Academy City displays tech "20 years more advanced than anywhere else" but their actual tech level is somewhere between"lol Giant Robots and Nearly completely indestructible Buildings" and "whatever the plot needs"

America must have upgraded to the F-35 and probably has those Railguns equipped in their Ships, at the very least.

You heave a heavy sigh.

“Okay, first off, this whole 'gas' thing is really... problematic. Either change it so it's not genocidal and doesn't make everyone left insane, get rid of it- in a safe and not-stupid way, of course, or start placing bets on whether it's me or Fate-chan that ends up being the one to fry you. She nods. Slowly, at first, but she gradually reaches a rather normal nod-frequency.

What magic needs is that people BELIEVED in it at some point, and the more people still believe the better, but the spells still work if the religion is dead.

There was that guy who used Incan spells to take the shape of other people and shoot Venus powered Lasers out of an obsidian dagger in one of the early novels.

You consider the situation, and what she just told you.

Ah!

Perfect.

You scoot your chair out from the table and stand. Akari seems a little surprised by this, but not overly-so.

You smile as you move around the table, lift her out of her chair, and sit down in said chair before placing her in your lap and wrapping your arms around her.

“I don't really get it, either,” you admit, “but it sounds like you stopped Testarossa without even meaning to.”

She relaxes in your arms and leans back against you. “But... she did all those horrible things to Fate-chan, and... and...” she sighs. “I don't even know what to think.”

You rest your chin on her shoulder and nuzzle up against her cheek. “Still,” you say, dropping your voice down a few levels to a volume you'd probably describe as a 'half-whisper', “it sounds to me like you did something great for the whole world, without even clenching a fist.” You squeeze her a little. “And that makes you a hero, Akari. My hero, at the very least.”

Your phone manages to boo-doop again at this point, which you feel kind of ruins the mood.

Huh.

Funny, you never actually checked your messages, what with how awkward this morning was.

I think just pain and suffering won't mean much to her. She's a psychopath who thinks everything is meaningless before her mission.

But the "Transplant brain into Lolibot" plan not only punishes her through shame and restriction of her freedom, but it also gives her a chance at becoming a decent person through socializing with normal (well, normal-ish) people and behavioral reconditioning.

>>35184952
Technically that's a pretty serious departure from canon, although it is your setting to do with as you like.
>>
>>35184952
Most countries in canon are generally ruled by magicians one way or the other. The Orthodox Church owns Russia, the Aztecs hold most of South America, The Catholics hold most of Europe, and then of course there's Britian. As in direct control over their military as well. And Magicians aren't really going to be keen on making Espers. Plus to be honest Magic is just stronger than Espers by a psychotic level, they have no reason to pursue a weaker power like that.

America is notable for not having a strong Magic presence, and they're the country noted in canon as having made the most attempts to develop Espers. AC is sort of just better (and also threatened to wreck them if they ever try and kidnap any of their Espers). Roberto Katze is also smart enough to just not get into that shit. He knows better, and has turned America into basically the only faction that can be considered on the Good side of the equation.

>Katze for 2030!

And now you know why I'm wising up and putting future quests into original settings- or at least settings that aren't particularly well-developed outside of their whatever-they-ares.

Espers are really, really shit tier in this universe. Kakine and Accelerator are the only competitors, and even they can't do anything at all to the people at the top (who toss around Universes like Mikoto tosses around lightning bolts).

And if you're considering a Saint as equivalent to a Level 5, pretty much any Saint can slaughter their way through almost every Esper with minimal effort.
>>
>>35185257
Nah, there's a reason, namely to explain why the hell all the characters with half a brain don't just flee Academy City on the first train out of town once the plot gets moving. You're certainly right about it being silly though.
>>
>>35185374
In alot of ways AC is safer than most of the rest of the world.

Kamachi-land is not a fun place. The chunks of Russia that are now missing from that time the fucking Archangel Gabriel came down for a visit can testify to that.
>>
>>35185417
I dunno, every country has skeletons in their closet but I doubt America has any equivalent to Level 6 Shift, let alone the rest of Crowley's crazy shit. AC might be safe from outside sources, but even that security isn't perfect, and who the hell watches the watchmen in that scenario? Oh right, nobody.
>>
>>35185482
America is basically the Good guy of the setting. I mean they've done some nasty shit, but nothing really to the level of what almost every other country/group has done.
>>
>>35185257
To be fair, if I was the big bad of a superhero setting, I can't think of much of a reason to NOT make myself as omniscient and influential as possible.
>>
Hmm. Well, while you guys are still chattin', feel free to toss out any ideas for XENOS FILTH that you might have. I haven't done much (i.e., any) alien generation yet, mostly because I'm still entirely unsure how in god's name I should go about it.

Invaders are always fun, Lovecraftian abominations that just want to devour us for no other reason than "because we can".

Beating up some Tau would be nice and therapeutic. You can take your Greater Good and shove it up your commie asses!
>>
>>35185809
>and shove it up your commie asses!
I shouldn't have laughed.
But I did.
>>
>>35185835
They would be a good match for most of our group's powers as well, given that we tend to focus on ranged combat. Mato might have a hard time with them though.
>>
>>35185835
The Tau are a good place to start the slaughter. Murderize their blue asses, take their tech and reverse engineer it so we can use ot against the other xenos.

After that, you should throw the Aliens from Pacific Rim, just as an excuse to have Akari pilot a Giant Robot.

And after we smash their shit we can just go conquer the rest of the galaxy for our God Empress Akarin.

>>35186027
>tfw I didn't even have to change the filename
Okay, I guess we'll use the Tau/Tau lookalikes, then. ANON VULT 'n' all that.
>>
>>35186027
Come to think of it, Akari would be the perfect pilot for Gaiking since she could supply all the necessary flame on her own and effectively fight indefinitely. Alternatively, if we go completely psycho as is sadly common for level 5s we already have 2/3rds of a Getter trio on tap.
>>
>>35186071
Sounds like a plan! Oh how cathartic this will be after years of "Fish of Fury" bullshit...
>>
>>35186130
>Fish of Fury
...

Is that the thing where tau players used their transports as mobile cover for their pew-pew guys and wrecked everyone ever at everything because of it?
I'm not super-big on 40k stuff.
>>
>>35186171
Got it in one! And now you know why Fourth Edition was suffering for those of us unfortunate enough to run melee-focused armies.
>>
>>35186224
And it was extra-silly because Tau vehicles are either walking mech-things or floaty flying-saucer-star-wars-repulsorlift-shenanigans, right?
I think I remember that from one of the earlier Cain books.

Do you even THE POWER OF COURAGE?
>>
>>35186279
Yeah, thanks to the Greater Good's way of absorbing races there isn't much in the way of design cohesion between a lot of Tau stuff. It's not as bad as say, the Orks, but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense either. And now I'm rambling instead of studying, so night Boss!
>>

Goodnight, anon.
>>
>>35186407
Yes, but GGG runs on neither fire nor insanity, which are our two most available resources. Trust me, if I could think of a way to spin Akari into trying a Final Fusion I would. Besides, turning things into light is more Mami's shtick as I understand it.
>>
>>35186460
Guess I'll head to bed too, I stayed awake just waiting for this session to finish, and its already really frickin' late here.

Good Night, Boss.
I'll hold onto that "Turn Precia into a Cyborg Loli idea, and I'll be really sad if you don't let us try to do that at some point in the future.
It just sounds like it could lead to so many funny shenanigans I can't resist it.
>>
>>35186622
When/if you play as Fate, make a point of trying to think up an appropriate punishment, and bring it up again.
She's been staying with Mokarin at Miku's place, if memory serves, so that's probably the perfect PoV to execute your plans from.
>>
>>35186503
No, Mami's shtick is killing things With light.
GGG is better, because we can have Mami say "FAINARU FYUZION SHOUNIN" while Mato can be the chick that breaks the glass to press the FINAL FUSION button.

Wait. Better idea.
MATO can pilot GGG, while Akari just chills inside the Power Generator in the robot and Miku presses the damn button.
>>
>>35186756
I suppose now that I think about it, Mato's armor does make her kinda like Guy, though hopefully not quite to the same degree of replacement bits. Chilling in the GS-Ride during combat would be really boring though.
>>
>>35186876
But if Mato is the pilot and Akari os the GS-Ride, then GGG is powered not only by Courage but also by the Power of Love.

Just imagine, Mato is in the heat of the battle, and she proclaims her love for Akari while charging a Broken Magnum.
Naturally, Akari Blushes because her girlfriend just shouted she loves her on the loudspeakers of the Giant Robot, which makes her heat up, generating more energy and making the attack (which I now dub Love Magnum) much stronger.

It's perfect
>>
>>35187364
But Akari is the protagonist, not Mato. Having the protagonist sit around not doing anything is really dull, especially if you're playing as her. And leave that lovey shit in G Gundam where it belongs, GGG is powered by Courage instead. Not to mention, how would Akari's fire provide any sort of boost, since that's not what the GS-Ride runs on?

>Sitting here, trying to decide whether to worship SIf Muna-sempai or Vehumet-sempai
>Vehumet-sempai notices kouhais really quick, but he's pretty shady, and he only gives violent spells
>Sif Muna-sempai takes a long time to really notice her kouhais enough to give them books, because she's so busy with her library work or something, but once she notices you, you're smooth sailin'

>Choose SIf Muna
>Check on thread
>No idea what anyone's talking about
>LOVE MAGNUM
And then I knew it was still business as usual.
>>
>>35187547
Yeah, sorry about the accidental derail, but look on the bright side, at least we waited until the thread was done for the day.
>>
>>35187611
the term LOVE MAGNUM was worth every word
I remember, back in the day, in the 'extended learning program', which is a fancy name for 'the class where we try to teach the kids who are too smart for their own good to be slightly less extremely socially awkward', we used to get so off topic every time we tried to discuss anything.

The teacher-lady would introduce a topic like, 'starving kids in third world countries' and, thirty minutes later, we'd be having a very lively discussion about underwear seams or popsicle stick production.

Good times, those.

... Did I just get off topic about getting off topic?

Geez.

Still, you guys amuse me endlessly. You're all so goofy. Moeblob cyborg loli-bodies as punishments, tau vengeance, pressing all the shiny buttons (I've gotten better about knowing which buttons are shiny, I think, so that's definitely nice), and only having to be coerced into hugging your waifu when it's what I expect you to do.

... In order to pretend I was going somewhere with this, I think next thread'll probably be next sunday. 'Cause it's a nice day to do stuff, yanno?

And it leaves thursdays open for if I have a math test or end up deciding to start another quest while this one's still going.
>>
>>35187744
Right, see you in a week then! Or possibly sooner if I have questions, you know how it is.
