It takes you less than a second to make your decision. Of course you remember that you delegated the task of interrogating the prisoners from the Kirishima op to Mami, but this is something else entirely. Lucius, the Magical Girl that had led a terrorist operation to not only kill your client in public but also murder you on camera - suddenly deciding to help you track down her boss? That's not something you'll turn down, even with the hangover punching needles into your brain.

"Wait for me at the main elevator," You tell the skulled helm of your Culexus Rank Leader. "I'm on my way."

"Warmaster." Yuma offers a curt salute, and the connection severs neatly with a beep, leaving you with a blank screen.

You're not an idiot, of course. Even before Yuma had told you about Lucius demanding to see you personally, you had an inkling that there'd be a catch in it somewhere- and while this isn't the Tokyo Tower of catches, it's still a pretty big one.

But catch or no catch, you'll till going. At worst, this could be the trap that the Culexus suspects it is - a last-ditch effort of Lucius' to try and take you out, in which case you'll be more than happy to deny her the chance and put her out of her misery once and for all. Mami still has a lead with Meteor Hammer Bitch, so that's not too much of a loss. And if Lucius actually DOES cooperate - if she proves herself as someone actually willing to help out - then you'll be able to get rid of this Prophet nonsense hanging over you AND yours like a fucking sword.

Yes, you're still sore about them going after Misaka. The fuckers TRIED to burn your arms dealer, a little girl barely out of puberty, alive. You've got no truck with so-called professionals who'd stoop so low as to go after a target like that - the fact that said little girl had a veritable armory in her warehouse as well as a nine-foot tall armored giant as a bodyguard notwithstanding.

You pour yourself one last drink, drain it, and then make to leave your office - but not before writing Midori a short note on where you've gone. You don't want her to worry when she wakes up, after all - but at the same time, you don't exactly need to wake her up to say goodbye. Since you're just going to a different floor in the same fucking building.

...Wait. Your dildo sense is tingling.

You should call someone about this, right? Someone else in your retinue should know, just in case shit does go down.

Yeah. Yeah, you probably should. ...It's the responsible thing to do.

God dammit.

You decide to let your Equerry know. It's the prudent thing to do, even if you do feel like the watch-wearing dildo you're supposed to be. You shake your head as you select Sayaka from your phone's contact list, and hold up the device to your ear as you wait for the call to connect.

The blue-haired Eversor picks up on the third ring - and big surprise, it seems you've called her up in the middle of another workout. Jesus Christ, just what kind of fitness-obsessed monster is your Equerry, anyway? And to think that she matched you drink for drink last night, even ending up facedown on the table at the tail end of the party before being roused by Kyoko. Your best friend had to carry her back to their quarters, for fuck's sake! And instead of sleeping off her hangover just like any decent person would, she's pumping iron! That's insane! She's insane!

"Well fuck you too, Murderface." Sayaka growls, her words punctuated by the sound of clanking metal. "You should try it sometime, you know. Sweat all the alcohol out of your system instead of just sitting on your ass feeling sorry for yourself. Gets it all out that much faster, and gets your blood going, too. Always worked for me."

It's here, then, that you hear her smile over the phone line. "Come on, join me one of these days. I'll even spot you, just to make sure you don't hurt yourself with those noodles you call arms."

...Yeah, no. The Eversor training she roped you into signing up for's enough. While you don't exactly like having a physique that's repeatedly being compared to floppy strings of rice dough, you're not jonesing for the Amazonian look either.

"Suit yourself." Sayaka grunts, giving you the vocal equivalent of a non-committal shrug. "What're you calling me for, anyway?"

[1/2]
>>
>>35171594

You tell her, and you manage to jerk the phone away just in time to avoid having your eardrums split by the sound of crashing metal.

"...What? Lucius wants to rat on Oriko, but only if you're there?" Sayaka is serious now, the humor in her voice gone, replaced by her usual sharp seriousness. "And you're actually going?"

Yeah. That's why you called. You're telling her that you are.

"Murderface." When she says your name - well, your nickname, one that you've given to the fragment with fire in her mind and metal shards for teeth - it's with a tired, seething frustration, the same tone of voice that a parent would use when addressing an eternally-recalcitrant child. "You do realize that she's up to something, right? That she's going to try and get you killed?"

How do you respond?

[]No, Sayaka, I don't. Apparently I'm just that stupid. ...What the fuck do you think? I know what I'm doing.
[]I'm aware of that, yes. But I still want to hear what she has to say. I'll kill her myself if she's just wasting our time.

...Of course you're aware of that, you tell Sayaka. You're fully aware that this could easily be a trick on Lucius' part, one that would see you dead if you're not careful. But at the same time, you want to hear what she has to say, and if it's even worth listening to. If it isn't - if you find that the captured Eversor is just wasting your time - then you'll execute her yourself, and that'll be that.

"Well, as long as you know how much this stinks." Sayaka replies after a moment, suspicion still tainting her voice. "Meet you in front of her Silent Room, then, Murderface?"

You allow yourself a small pleased smile at this. You've made a lot of bad decisions, sure, but the decision of making Sayaka your Equerry is one you're particularly proud of. Having to deal with the blue-haired Eversor being a massive bitch aside, she'd been nothing but commendably effective - save for a couple of times when she really got up in your grill. You may have actually found your Malal. Now if only you could get her to do your paperwork for you--

"Murderface?" Sayaka calls you by your abandoned nickname again. "I can hear you grinning, you know. What the fuck is so funny?"

Nothing, you assure her. Absolutely nothing at all. But yeah, you'll meet her there. You were just about to say the same thing, before she beat you to it.

"Is that right? Well, that's..." There's an awkward pause here, on your Equerry's end, as if she herself is a bit dumbstruck by that fact. "...Nevermind. I'll be right there, give or take a couple of minutes. Have to go get ready and everything."

Not a problem, you respond. But as she makes to hang up, you call her attention again.

"Yeah? What is it now?"

You grin again, and remind her that it's 'Warmaster Murderface', not just 'Murderface'.

"Hah!" Sayaka barks. "Fine, fine. Later, Warmaster Noodles."

[1/2]
>>
>>35173189

There's a click as your Equerry disconnects the call, leaving you to frown at your smartphone screen. ...You deserved that. You fucking walked right into it.

Anyway. You leave your Office a few moments later, wearing the hat of your office and your Golden Desert Eagle visibly holstered on your person. You decided to forgo the greatcoat for now, leaving it draped on your chair - sure, you're official and everything, but there's no need to bandy it around too much. The hat's more than enough at the moment.

Oh, and you shouldn't forget the Golden Bracelets around your wrists, hidden underneath your costume's sleeves. ...Probably a good thing you're bringing them along, too, considering that it was Lucius herself who put Yuu out of action for quite a while. You wonder how the spirit would react in the prisoner's presence.

That aside, you get to the main elevator quickly enough - the corridors deserted with the exception of a couple of mundane employees rushing here and there, clutching paperwork in their hands. And just like how you told her to, the hardsuit-clad form of Yuma is there waiting for you. Her skulled helm turning to face you as she rips off a textbook salute.

You make to return the salute, but a low, leopard-wet growl erupts in your mind, making you stop in your tracks in the sudden migraine-pain of it.

+ MIND. BREAKER. + Murderface seethes, her words a jagged avalanche of rusty blades. + DECEIVER. +

FUCK, that hurt!...What? What's she talking about? Mindbreaker? Deceiver? ...Who, Yuma? But she--

+ DO. NOT. TRUST. HER. + The armored fragment growls again, her words ending with the same desperation as a cornered animal. Desperate, near death, yet still dangerous. + NOW. I. REMEMBER. BE. CAREFUL. +

...The fuck? Alright, what the hell is this all about? What, is she hung over too? Does it work that way? Or is this some kind of cryptic warning bullshit you'll have to write down in your journal again, because--

...The fuck? Alright, what the hell is this all about? What, is she hung over too? Does it work that way? Or is this some kind of cryptic warning bullshit you'll have to write down in your journal again, because--

+ ASK. HER. YOURSELF. + The most twisted of your reflections has always sounded angry, but not like this. This wasn't anger - this was full-on hatred. + ASK. HER. ABOUT. WALPURGISNACHT. +

But you don't even remember that! You just know that a lot of people died in it, including Malal, and--

"Warmaster?" Yuma's vox-corrupted voice snaps you out of your one-sided argument with the voices in your head. You blink - and it's here that you realize that the Culexus is now right in front of you, waving a gloved hand in front of your face. "Everything okay? You just suddenly zoned out there for a second."

How do you respond?

If Yuma did nothing wrong, then why is she hiding it? Hehehe.

Seriously though, this could result in a problem. The update says Murderface really hates Yuma:
"This wasn't anger - this was full-on hatred"

That might be a problem. What do we do about that? How do we convince Murderface to let the matter go? This could be the make or break when it comes to getting Murderfaces bonus.

You shake your head, making a show of massaging your temple with your knuckles. ...You're fine, you tell the Culexus. Everything's fine. Just a hangover that you've got under control making its presence felt, that's all. How's Lucius?

Yuma is silent for a couple of moments, seemingly staring at you from behind the heavily-tinted visor of her Anima Speculum - before she shrugs and hands you what appears to be a letter, still sealed in a plain white envelope. The envelope has no stamps, nor any identifying marks of any kind. Not even a return address.

The Culexus ignores your questioning look at the envelope as she replies, all warmth in her voice erased by her helm's vox-speakers. "Lucius is in her Silent Room, Warmaster, restrained and prepared for interrogation. Surprisingly cooperative, considering how much she'd tried to break her way out ever since we checked her in. I have her Soul Gem with me, by the way." Yuma holds up a red Soul Gem, in its jewel form - and she offers this to you, too.

You take the bauble from the Culexus' gloved hand and place it in your Inventory. Back at the stadium, you yourself ripped it off of the Eversor's corpse, her skull reduced to pulped meat and bone by repeated kill-shots of your Desert Eagle. ...You still remember how deliciously cathartic that felt, after what felt like an eternity of idol babysitting.

Well, anyway, it seems Lucius is doing well enough, for a prisoner. You're actually looking forward to talking with her, see what this is all about.

The main elevator opens with a pleasant 'ding', the car empty and silent - and both you and your Culexus Rank Leader step into it, the doors whooshing close behind you. Yuma pokes at the floor select panel, and soon the lift is moving, bringing you down to the lower floors as you carefully worry at the envelope's seal. Down, down.

[1/2]
>>
>>35174417

"I still think it's a trap, but I don't think you need me to remind you of that, Warmaster." Yuma says after a moment. "And I'd like it very much if you give that back to me after you read its contents. The sender has been very particular that it be destroyed after you read it."

What, this? You wave the half-opened envelope at her. ...Who sent it, anyway? And what's with all the Mission Impossible shit? This isn't illegal or anything, is it?

"Not illegal, Warmaster, just complicated." Yuma shakes her head. "But I would like to follow that order to the letter, at least. I did promise."

+ BULL. SHIT. + Murderface roars in your mind, making you wince. + YOU. CAN'T. FOLLOW. ORDERS. TO. SAVE. YOUR. WORTHLESS. LIFE. +

You pointedly ignore the fragment's ravings and open the envelope, pulling out the letter inside. It's typewritten, but signed with a careful, neat hand.

>Dear Warmaster Matsuda,

>On behalf of the Seventeenth Officio Assassinorum, I would like to extend our sincerest congratulations regarding your recent promotion. I have no doubts that you will serve your Officio well and continue its proud legacy.

>Regrettably, we are not currently able to send a delegate to attend your ratification ceremony in person. Our Officio is, unfortunately, no longer in a position to act openly and the list of people we can trust grows shorter by the day. Nevertheless, our Officios have a strong rapport and I would be remiss to let our friendship fade with Valnikov. Hopefully we will be able to meet face-to-face in the future, when circumstances are more favourable. Until that time, I would humbly request that you not speak of this letter to anyone.

>Sincerely,

>Odette Brighton
>Warmaster of the Seventeenth Officio

>PS: We have heard that you are fond of whisky and syrup, of which we have in great abundance and quality. You should receive a gift in the mail within in the next few days. Good hunting, Warmaster.

[2/3]
>>
>>35174447

Huh. The...Seventeenth Officio? You don't...hmm. Ah, wait. Canadians. Yeah. That explains the overly-polite tone of the message. Nice of them to send a gift, though, even though they couldn't attend.

You read the message again. ...Hmm. Something serious going down in the Seventeenth, seems like. Or maybe they're getting into some sort of quarrel with another Officio?

You ask this to Yuma, who shrugs again. "I was only told to deliver the letter to you personally, Warmaster, but...I'd hazard it's something like that. It's usually one or the other, if an Officio suddenly becomes withdrawn and overprotective of its own secrets."

+ LIAR. DECEIVER. MINDBREAKER. DIE IN SHAME. DIE IN FLAMES. SUFFER. +

...Christ, whatever Yuma did, she'd made Murderface angry enough to speak in full sentences.

What the hell did this kid do to make your doomed future self so fucking mad?

+ ASK. HER. I KEEP TELLING YOU. +

You shake your head again, shutting her out. Maybe later. Not now. Not when you have a prisoner to interrogate.

You let out a sigh of relief as Murderface seems to grow quiet at your rebuke - and it's here that you see Yuma holding out her hand again.

"The letter, Warmaster? If you've finished reading it?"

How do you react?

[]Give her the letter. You'll just have to ask Kyuubey about it later, seems like.

You decide to keep the letter instead of handing it over to Yuma.

"But Warmaster--" The Culexus starts, and for a moment you hear the old, hard-bitten Yuma that you first met when you called that meeting with your Rank Leaders, to discuss the Prophet. The Yuma that didn't hesitate socking you a good one in the gut when you baited her into reacting. And in that moment, you expected her to do something stupid, like rip the letter from your hands or something.

She doesn't. Instead, she simply holds out her gloved hand again, her voice carefully controlled, but tighter. Much tighter. "I must insist, Warmaster. It's important--"

If it's that important, then you'll see to it personally, you tell the Culexus, as you stuff the envelope into your own inventory. You'll be the one to destroy the letter. Probably burn it in your ashtray, and then flush the ashes down. That should be enough, right? That should satisfy the Seventeenth's paranoia, yeah?

"...I suppose so, Warmaster." Yuma says after a long while, lowering her arm. "Please keep in mind not to forget about it."

You won't. You'll even write it down in your own journal, you tell her. ...And you do just that, making sure she sees you writing. "Updated my journal," You say proudly, while underlining 'Ask Yuma about Walpurgisnacht later: Murderface mad as hell, ask why'.

As the elevator continues its way down to the Silent Room floors, it's here that you ask the Culexus beside you about Lucius' frame of mind. It's a handy thing to know about a prisoner you're about to visit, especially if you're about to interrogate them.

"...Peaceful," Yuma says after a moment. "Like I said, Warmaster, very cooperative. She's even started eating on her own, instead of the wardens having to force it down her throat. Even started talking to the wardens themselves like they're people, instead of worms and insects."

[1/2]
>>
>>35176008

She turns towards you, the skull painted on her helmet leering. "I don't like it."

Why? It sounds like an improvement.

"It's too sudden, Warmaster. Too contrasting to her earlier attitude. It's as if she suddenly accepted the fact that she's never going to leave the Officio alive. Like she's accepted death." The Culexus shakes her head. "That in itself should be a warning already, and a clear indicator that she's planning something."

Huh. Well. In that case, then...does she have any suggestions on how to interrogate someone like that? Seems like Yuma's got experience--

+ SOULLESS. WARP-BORN. FILTH. I SHOULD HAVE TAKEN YOUR SKULL WHEN I HAD THE CHANCE--+

With a grunt of effort, you mentally block out Murderface's ravings again. Yuma doesn't seem to notice, this time, seemingly taking your question into serious consideration.

"I would start, Warmaster, by asking her just what exactly she wants from you." She says finally. "She'll be expecting you to tell her what YOU want from her, and what you're prepared to do to take it. That would catch her off guard, I think, even in her current mental state."

That...well. That actually sounds like a smart suggestion. You'll keep it in mind, then. You thank her for it.

Yuma falls silent again. "...No need to thank me, Warmaster." She says quietly, if a bit awkwardly.

With that, the rest of the trip to Lucius' Silent Room is made in silence. A bit more of a walk, and soon you find yourself in front of the room where the Magical Girl that had tried to kill you in a stadium full of people is currently imprisoned. The guards stationed - two Eversors whose names you don't quite catch, but nonetheless impress you with how alert and awake they look - give you a unified salute, their blades sheathed but ready to draw in a moment's notice.

[2/3]
>>
>>35176031

"Here, I'm here! Sorry I'm late!" A voice comes up from behind you, and you turn to see that it's none other than your Equerry, her cape billowing out behind her as she approaches in a run. The guards immediately stand straighter at her presence, faces locking into that frozen look of fierce desperation in the face of a very strict superior officer. "What did I miss?"

Nothing much, really, you tell the blue-haired Eversor, as she gives the guards a critical once-over. You just got here with Yuma, after all.

"Costume's wrinkled. Ten demerits, Kitchen duty for two weeks." Sayaka points at one of the guards, then at the other. "You. Twenty demerits for not making sure your sentry partner's costume is up to par. Kitchen duty for a month."

"Ma'am!" Both Eversors stand straighter in terrified acquiescence. Your Equerry nods, and turns back to you. "Yeah? Well, I guess I wasn't that late after all." Sayaka replies, before nodding again, this time to the Culexus beside you. "Kyoko says hi, not that you care, obviously."

"...I care," Yuma replies, in the meekest, most apologetic voice you'd ever heard her speak in. "...Please say hi to Miss Kyoko, too." The blue-haired Eversor simply narrows her eyes at this, saying nothing.

...Well. Uh. So, about Lucius...?

"Yeah, I'm getting to that." Sayaka says after a while. "Anyway, there's only room for three people in a Silent Room, and that's counting the prisoner inside. If we're going to start this interrogation, you have to pick who you're bringing in along with you."

You blink at this. ...You didn't really think about that, you just thought Sayaka would be here waiting for you outside while you interrogated Lucius. You went in solo with Midori, didn't you?

[3/4]
>>
>>35176050

"This is this and that is that," Sayaka frowns. "Let's be honest, Murderface, the only thing Midori can kill is a pint of ice cream. Lucius is something else. Even with the Silent Room on and her restraints active, she's still a well-trained Eversor." Your Equerry shakes her head. "I can't let you go in there alone, so you have to pick who you're bringing in with you. Me, or Yuma."

...Well. Seems you have to make a choice, here.

Who do you pick to accompany you with Lucius' interrogation?

This is a Silent Room, so there should be no magic. Which means that Yuma would be useless in there.
So whatever Lucius is planning, is probably mundane. Hidden poison gas capsule in her tooth, or some kind of binary poison/explosive gland.

True. However, that doesn't tell the full story cat. First off, besting a pint of ice cream is something the vast majority of even regular people can manage, much less superhumans like meguca. As such, specifying that Midori could do it does not in any way inform Chiaki of Midori's abilities; the reason for its mention must necessarily be different.

Bringing us to the second point: Sayaka didn't merely claim Midori would be capable of scarfing down the ice cream, she specifically claimed it as the ONLY thing she could 'kill'. Obviously an insult in its own right, however when paired with the auspicious choice of ice cream - a dessert commonly associated with gaining weight - rather than, say, a bowl of noodles which would be far more relevant as well, the logical conclusion is indeed that she meant to cast aspersions on Chiaki's waifu.

As a journalist, surely you should be able to reason through this, cat?

I had hoped desperately that my nerves would let up once the Voices Around the World concert was over – at very least, I had hoped that being in my element, finally performing again for the first time in what seemed like ages, would help me relax, ease me back into my life.

It hadn’t, naturally. That was the direction my life had taken since…since Yayoi, and in retrospect, I wasn’t sure why I expected it to stop.

She went out of her way to torture me. If the producer hadn’t reassured me time and time again that the whole event had been planned months in advance (which, admittedly, I still find it a little hard to believe), I would have started to suspect that Ruri set it up specifically to make me miserable.

First, there was the twenty-four hour broadcast, which she seemed determined to drag me into as much as possible. Of course, I’ve never had trouble in front of a camera before, and it wasn’t the first time I’d been under the spotlight for an extended period even behind the scenes, but she seemed determined to go out of her way to put me on the spot, to humiliate me around every turn, to hammer the idea that we’d become best friends into the minds of our – no, her – fans.

…I played along. Even when she brought…HER, of all people, on staff, I played along. Even when she had HER shadow us at every turn, when she showed me up in front of HER over and over, I smiled and I took it without complaint.

Even when she pushed us into talking, into exchanging awkward platitudes after…after the coffee shop – which seemed to be all anyone ELSE was interested in talking about – Ruri smiled the same, vapid smile, and acted like this must have been exactly what I wanted.

I drew the line at the concert itself, and I was so, so relieved when our companies agreed to cancel the second half.

It wasn’t because my life was put on the line yet again because of her…because of Chiaki-san. …I wasn’t afraid. I knew she’d protect me. Protect everyone. I don’t believe she likes to admit it, but that’s the kind of person she is. No, it’s…

It shouldn’t have been such a big deal. It shouldn’t have stuck with me as much as it did. But under recent circumstances…

For the third time that day I scrubbed at my lips with a paper towel. The concert was days ago, and already this had become a sort of unhealthy little ritual, every time I got a break. I could still feel a gentle, uncomfortable warmth, could still taste peppermint lip gloss. The kiss was not in the script. It was not in the script at all – it was, in fact, expressly against my contract with 2020. No excessive physical contact, the producers had both agreed it was reasonable.

…They tasted raw, and if my reflection was to be believed, they were turning an unhealthy, flushed red. I didn’t need to be anywhere for the evening, thankfully, but I’d still have to put lipstick on at very, very least. Hopefully it wouldn’t…hurt, or something. I hadn’t had much experience with injuring my lips before.

…Stupid. It was so stupid to fixate on a stupid kiss. It was publicity. It was a show. The response was phenomenal. Chirpee exploded. Nobody believed it was real. Nobody even realized how surprised I was. Looking back on it, this sort of stupid stunt was exactly the kind of thing Ruri Kirishima would pull, and I should have expected it.

I pursed my lips and ran my tongue across them again. …It would go away on its own. I needed to stop trying to force it, it hadn’t worked before after about ten thousand showers and it wasn’t going to work now. At least with Ruri it wasn’t… …I wanted to think she didn’t intend for it to be terrible. Maybe it would have been nice, in other circumstances.

Maybe.

I was barely two steps out of my dressing room before someone called my name – another one of the idols from 2020 Pro, the German S-idol. Wakahisa…something, Ruri called her Mappi-chan. I’d only had a few chances to meet her, and I wasn’t necessarily unhappy about that. Her voice had a piercing, nasal quality to it, and every time I’d met her she seemed to be absolutely furious about something or other.

…Even so, she seemed as though she was trying to keep a smile up, to force some small comfort. It gave me a terrible feeling of foreboding, and the bundle of clothing she shoved in my arms only confirmed my suspicions.

“Minase.” A heavy sweater, a long skirt, sunglasses and…a wig. “We’re going incognito tonight. Try to look cheap.”

We sat in relative silence as rain pounded on the beat-up little car I had been dragged into, casting the city into shades of distant, oppressive gray. It was the Mitakihara from those days, only a few weeks ago. The Mitakihara that refused to be hidden behind brilliant lights and empty songs of love. It was her Mitakihara tonight, and my heart ached a little as I wondered what she was doing.

Probably shooting up a warehouse of mafiosos, drunk two-thirds stupid on her own misery. …Did the rain make her feel lonely, too? I caught myself sighing as I leaned on the icy-cold window. The stupid wig itched. The stupid sweater itched. Maki – that was her name, Maki – had sworn up and down that she hadn’t let that awful little sweat-demon near them, but the pins that kept my hair from spilling out of the week were jabbing into my scalp.

A choice string of irritated German snapped me out of my reverie of self-pity, along with the dim realization that the radio had been switched off a few bars into…I don’t know her name. Some other 2020 idol’s honey-voiced rendition of an old Frank Sinatra song.

“Not a fan, I take it,” I murmured. It was a welcome interruption to drowning in thoughts about you-know-who.

“I’ve heard it about fifteen million times too many. You will too, I promise.” …Come to think of it, this was one of those songs that tended to be playing at all hours inside the 2020 Pro building. I hadn’t thought much of it. “It helps Wondergirl relax,” she added, as though that explained everything.

A few minutes passed in silence, and when I found my mind drifting toward you-know-who again, I turned to Maki instead.

“So what is all this about, exactly?” After a moment, I added, “I have a handgun in my purse, if this is some plan to bump off the competition. Don’t think I won’t do it.” I grit my teeth as the car filled with an uproar of laughter. Apparently every single thing Maki Wakahisa whatever-it-was did was loud.

“Don’t make me laugh when I’m trying to drive, damn it.” The superior smirk she flashed me convinced me of something I hadn’t been entirely certain of yet: I hate everyone at 2020 Pro. Every single person. All of them. For that moment I hoped that I could scowl so hard at Wakahisa that it might crash the car and kill…her.

Just her.

“…God, you’re pissier than Ruri. I get it, you’re still freaked out. That’s fine, whatever. Do you even know how to use it?”

“Yes,” I snapped. “I’ve been shooting for longer than YOU’VE been sitting in Ruri Kirishima’s shadow, Miss Wakahisa.” The both of us jerked violently as she slammed on the brakes, a dark look crossing her face. The car behind us honked furiously as it screeched to a halt, and I could see her fingers digging furiously into the wheel. She stared over at me with brilliant, burning blue eyes, and I crossed my arms and stared evenly back. After a deep breath, we started moving again and she murmured another string of scathing German.

“Say what you like about my father, but I’ve never been fond of being called a whore.” I could scarcely keep the smug smile off of my face. I really try not to indulge in things like this often, but it was nice having someone who responded with something other than a vapid laugh, like one you’d give a child.

“You fuckers deserve each other,” she hissed.

Another couple of tense minutes passed before either of us spoke. Against all common sense, it was me; I probably would have apologized, probably SHOULD have apologized, but for one moment I didn’t feel like I was being…well, shit on. And I missed that desperately.

“So what is all of this incognito nonsense for, again? You never specified.” Maki gave me a dangerous glare from the corner of her eye, then seemed to resign herself to my continued existence.

“Wondergirl didn’t feel safe abroad,” she started, insincerity dripping from each word like grease from Karasawa’s hair, “so she started whining to Mr. P. We sent out a body double this morning, and she sent for her best friends to pick her up at the airport.”

Best…yes. Sure. Of course.

“Get used to it. While you’re working with 2020, you’re Kirishima’s bitch. Just be glad you’re one of her ‘best friends’ and not one of the dozens girls she’s crushing under her silky green heel.” I opened my mouth for a rebuttal, but Maki continued louder. “And unless you WANT to be one of those dozens of girls, you get to share the same shit sandwich as Karasawa and me, and you’re going to take a big fucking bite, and you’re going to smile. And if you don’t, then you’ll get another sandwich, and you’ll take another, even bigger bite, and you’ll smile wider until Ruri – and, by proxy, Mr. P – is satisfied.”

“…Am I always going to die a little bit inside when I think about it?”

“It’s a shit sandwich, Minase. What do YOU think?”

Wakahisa’s charming metaphor still rang in my ears an hour and a half later as the three of us huddled around a small table in front of some cheap chain ice cream parlor, doing our best to ignore the two security teams mere tables away.

Ruri had immediately dug into a monstrous pile of mint, atrocities of flavor all mixed together in a pile large enough to kill a six-year-old. Maki opted for a more classical triple-fudge bowl with wafers sticking out if it and one of those names that implies one will be wheeled out on a stretcher from a chain of violent heart attacks.

I got two scoops of French vanilla and wondered how badly it would destroy my diet. Honestly, Hatachikawa-san really let the idols in 2020 run away with every inch he gave them, didn’t he? I wondered idly if they did this kind of thing all the time. …And if they were more toned than I was. There was no way to look without being awkward, and even if I tried, Ruri would probably grab my hand and hold it to her stomach until one of us called the police.

“I really missed this. It’s been way too long,” Ruri sighed with a little smear of green on the edge of her lip. Her tongue darted out a half-moment later to nab it, and Maki made a face.

“It’s been a week. A week and a half, tops.” Her reply was flat and cold as she slipped a delicate spoonful of chocolate into her mouth. I…had not expected 2020 Pro’s top S-idol to be the graceful one of the two. “And you were in Paris, right? So how many pastries did you sneak onto the plane? How many did you eat on the way over?”

“Maki-channn, you knowww my batteries run on sugarrr. And that’s not even what I meannnt!” Ruri’s whine was as distinct as ever, though she managed to keep it down to a low sulk. I was…honestly impressed that she’d managed ‘incognito’ as well as – if not better than – Maki and me.

When we’d gone to pick her up, I expected the usual bombastic lack of subtlety from her, but…well, I didn’t even see her until Maki snorted and waved her over. Her hair was lazily tied back, soft and clean-looking but not out of the ordinary, and without her usual makeup and fashion…sensibilities…she looked like she might have been a touch older than me, actually. Even the way she’d waved us down was gentle and reserved.

‘…Don’t give me that look, Iori-chan,’ she’d said. ‘You’re not even a performer if you can’t act at least this much.’

“So did you get any recording done while I was gone, Iori-chan?” She must have noticed me doing my best to ignore them. “Mr. P said it was kind of rough on you, doing it without a partner.”

The truth of it was, it HAD been rough. It wasn’t my first foray into voice-acting, but as much as I hated to admit it, Ruri lent the entire project a certain energy and momentum when we were working together, something that Hatachikawa-san had noted was missing when I tried to record on my own. …It wasn’t quite as fun to sit there in a booth alone, either, as obnoxious as Ruri could be.

…It really had been kind of a lonely week, and the realization killed me just a little inside. I glanced to Maki, who was giving me a sort of sympathetic look of all things. Almost pitying. It made the hair on the back of my neck stand on end, and I murmured that I was fine.

“…Iori-chan. Look…” Ruri stared down into her ice cream bowl and fiddled with her spoon. “We’ve kind of commandeered a lot of your life lately, and I know I…well, I wasn’t really…” Her expression turned pensive as she stirred her mint-bomination.

“She’s trying to say that she fucked up,” Maki grunted before slipping another spoonful of chocolate into her mouth.

“…Right. I was wr… …Some of the things I did were…umm…”

Agreed.
>>
“Say it.” I didn’t exactly mean for it to come out with the force that it did, and it left the both of them silent for a moment. I continued.

“Say you were wrong. Admit to me, right here, that you were stalking me during one of the worst periods of my life. That you were harassing me – torturing me – because you assumed I didn’t understand how serious the situation with…with Matsuda-san could get. Of course I understood. I was there when she saved me from being…” Don’t lose momentum. Say it. Just say it. “…gang-raped and quite possibly murdered for a bunch of…a bunch of disgusting perverts. For a bunch of…amoral fucking deviants.”

“Iori-chan…“ The shock on her face was obvious, and it made my heart flutter. Maki seemed to be holding back a laugh.

“And I am not your…your ACCESSORY. I’m not biting into your stupid sandwich. You are not my best friend, you will NEVER be my best friend, and stop trying to replace her. She’s only been…been gone for two months. Have a little fucking shame.” I kept my voice as low as I could, forced myself to take a breath, to end it there before I got too carried away. Before she started crying because someone actually called her out.

…I felt bad for exploding, later on. It occurred to me that she probably was trying to apologize. That maybe she already knew what she did wrong.

“She’s got you dead to rights, Wondergirl.” …but I didn’t feel that bad, and Maki was doing everything she could not to laugh. Ruri’s aqua-green eyes bored into me, a storm of emotion brewing behind them.

One of the most valuable things I had come to learn when dealing with other idols: do not break eye contact. Do not back down. Not for a second. At 765, we were something close to a family, for the most part. Other companies were not so kind. 2020 was certainly not. I slipped a spoonful of half-melted French vanilla into my mouth. It tasted like victory. A small victory, but victory nonetheless.
>>
>>35176895
“…I can end your career in a phone call, Minase,” she started, quietly. Supposedly, it was true, but it was a large claim to boast. Whether it was the ice cream, mental exhaustion, or the fact that I snapped just a little bit that day, I felt lucky. “You can apologize if you want. I’m listening.”

I took another spoonful, then another, as Ruri stared me down, as Maki forced down a roar in her chest. I vaguely suspected that I’d been set up. That Wakahisa’s big speech before was something she made just to try and send me over the tipping point. I realized that right then, I cared more about finishing my ice cream than about how angry Ruri Kirishima was.

I was nearly done when one of us finally broke the silence. It was me, of course.

“Your ice cream is melting, Ruri-chan~” I pushed it out in the most sickly sweet tone I could imagine. Frankly, I was mocking her. Her face was stretched into a distant, predatory smile.

“That’s all you have to say?”

“You know what? Yes. That’s all. That’s it.” One last bite, and I gingerly nudged my bowl away. “Make your phone call. Find another Murder Mayumi. It isn’t worth the indignity anymore.”

Then she did the last thing I expected. …Her cold smile melted away into a sheepish one, and she scratched idly at the back of her neck.

“…I’m sorry, Iori-chan.” As Ruri spoke, I heard Maki’s spoon hit the table. Apparently she dropped it.

She…what?

“I was wrong. I put you through a lot without really thinking about how you felt about it. I’ve done the same thing to Mappi-chan before, it’s like…I get this THING where I…you know, you kind of get it, right?” I shook my head, and she sighed. “I try to help people but there are some personality types that like…they just set off this NEED to mess with people. I guess it’s what I really like about you, that you’re…you know? Like this. But you’re not scary like Maki, either. You’re…”

“I’m…?” I had no idea how to react.

“You’re really cute, Iori-chan!” She blurted it out, a tinge of red crossing her face. “I really, definitely want to be your friend! I was trying but I got everything mixed up. I’m really, really sorry. Maki tried to tell me I was really messing things up, but I ignored her-“

“Again.”

“-so I really hope we can keep working together, okay?”

…It was exactly what I needed to hear, right then. I think…that was what she wanted. I think that was her whole idea. Maybe something she’d been building up to for weeks.

But maybe I’m just paranoid.

Midori has trouble drawing curvy girls but admits MIdori overeats somewhat. She's probably not fat fat like you would think with a fatty fat fat, but she's a little softer, I think, than she tends to be depicted.

Fat Enishi would be better though.

+++PANNA: Let's begin. To sum up, this morning, you have been assigned a highest priority mission. What was it?

+++MARTINA: To retire the Warmaster.
+pause+
I understand it was because she had reached the point of not being sustainable anymore. As always, it was requested that I let her become a Witch, and kill her only then. But the previous one had tried to fight me four months ago, and escaped, so, I think, that would be why it"s retiring, rather than purging or hunting.

+++JARMILA: Oh yes. This is going to be good.

+++P: How did you feel about this?

+++M: Hmm.
+pause+
I was scared. Obviously I would be, having to fight the Warmaster, but don't forget I had no idea who the Warmaster even was yesterday, and the file that I had received was... well, intimidating.
+pause+
I'd like to ask this too, why should I of all people have the necessary ability to assassinate the Warmaster?

+++P: That would be, firstly, because the Love Potion deteriorates the soul, so at the time she would need a Grief Seed every day and wouldn't be worth sustaining anymore, you will be fighting a shade of her former self anyway.

+++J: Wow. That's fucked up.
+pause+

+++P: Secondly, Martina, because you're the least unreliable powerful person around, and the best at engaging humans. You may remember that Jarmila had to hunt down the Witch resulting from your blunder the last time, because she's better suited to battle Witches than you.

+++M: +loudly+ Except that girl back then shot magic at me from her Gem even after I've broken everything in her body except that, so I don't think it was possible-

+++P: Maintain your trance. Besides, we got the Witch, so it wasn't too bad. How did you approach the assignment?

+++M: Well.
+pause+
I've learned something from the last one. This time, I've brought a gun. Her file had said she was a powerful teleporter, able to travel hundreds of miles. I can see why such a person would get the job of cleaning the Witches as they turn up. But it also meant that she could teleport on me any time. So, I had no idea what to do about it. I would have requested a Culexus to help me, if we still had any, but we didn't manage to recruit one in, how long? Ten years? I would have actually even requested foreign assistance on this one, if it wasn't so confidential. No way I could really prepare for this. Not even anything I can make with a marker seemed useful.

+++P: She could probably make a short jump, but then we could just get her again. Karolina must have known that she would Witch out right away, if she tried to jump between countries in her state. Someone else would then get the Seed, or we would have to ask for turf access, or even actual assistance, sure. That would be troublesome. At her peak, however, and with the potion's help, even jumping from here to Australia wouldn't be out of question.

+++M: So... I have asked Řeřicha for a seeing. She looked at me with those bloodshot eyes of hers, and said she couldn't help on a short notice like that, but that some acolyte girl had said she saw me talking to a platinum blonde warrior during a divination. That was a week ago, if I remember what Řeřicha said right.

So, I'll rub this in. It would be better if I didn't have to ask. Why isn't there some sort of a system for these yet? We should gather notices like this, I saw some random shit in the warp myself, what do you know, it could help somebody if I shared back then.

+++P: Too dangerous. Could be used as a way to circumvent classification. The person that tries to make sense of these would need to have access to everything, otherwise they wouldn't be able to judge who is allowed to be warned about what. The Incubator certainly does not have time for that, and neither do I.

+++TOYEN: I guess that means the burden of power is biting you in the ass, eh?

+++M: It also turned out to be the right thing to do. When I met the Warmaster at the given place, I've tried to approach her more casually, and she sort of started talking on her own.

+++J: Sorry for jumping in, this seems like a good time. Karolina Sokołowska? Kája? A teleporting Eversor? Long blonde hair? I've trained that nerd.
+short pause+
So she was the Warmaster for the last months? That's sort of hard to believe, though, I guess, the Potion goes a long way. Give me a moment here, to get it all together.
+pause+
I remember that girl alright. Her name was Karolina, but she insisted for people to not call her by her full name. That she hates it. It's a really common and boring one, I guess. She was a teleporter Eversor, which was awesome, but she was also dreadfully lacking in, well, curiosity. A slow learner. And pretty dumb, all in all. It took me days to explain to her the idea of using teleportation to attack somebody. Just, you know, popping up behind them and shanking their guts.

I think I just sort of stopped seeing her a few weeks after she got in, and assumed she got killed somewhere off my eyes, Jackdaw took what was left, and Panna had filled the paperwork. I mean, she was supposed to be an operative of her own because of the gimmick, but at the same time, she wasn't so promising a recruit that I'd lose sleep over her. Damn.
+pained expression+
You said you'd talked, so did she say anything interesting?

+++M: Yes, she talked a lot - right when she teleported in. It's auditive memory, rather than the visual which I trained for, but I remember it all. To establish the scene better for you - I was told by the Incubator to meet her in an alley in the Old Town, right at the dawn. Don't know how that works. Did you, like, order her to come get shot?

+pause+

Let's see, a swearword here and there:

"Haha, the place is right now, but time still fucked. Sorry I'm late. Had to kill a monster, except he was a guy. Really wanted to do it for the longest fucking time, and she can't punish me when I'm dead, you dig?" +accent, some elongated vowels+

She was also all bloody and transformed. She held a stained sword. I am afraid I can't tell swords apart like Jarmila would, but it looked very simple and heavy. She had a costume out of hard leather. Tomboyish, like a fashionable fencer. A lot of studs, a very Twelfth looking costume.

+++J: By the way, except for the costume, that sounds nothing like her. She was really phlegmatic and, hm, timid.

+++P: It is her. Consider the love potion's withdrawal effects too. Her psychological profile also has her as bipolar, in case you didn't know. She had also expressed actual concern that you would find out, when she was offered the spot. I would be forbidden to tell you anyway, and wouldn't. Just so this is said here, she seemed to have arranged some sort of a trade with the Incubator, that I didn't see into.

Which is my point. Midori is maybe slightly pudgy and soft, so the repeated "fat" comments are either 1) Midori being overtly self-conscious or 2) People taking a dig at Chiaki indirectly.

Personally, my mental image is that she's rather curvy with, as I said before, "fat in all the right places" which gives her a slightly heavier look. Definitely heavier than Chiaki.

I have been trying to make her more... weighty in my drawings as of late, and I think I've reached a pretty nice point? I don't know, but I think they're pretty close to my mental image of the character, at least.

+++T: Wow, that almost sounds like she's the winner. That's much better than what most girls around here get. Most just make a wish, and kind of randomly witch out a month later. Wink wink, nudge nudge, you know.

+++P: He seemed to treat it as a second contract, and would be willing grant a second wish for it in a way, as long as it was reasonable. It's the difference between letting someone fiddle with your soul, and letting him break it.

+++T: What a nice cat he is.

+++M: "It's a lot harder to just cap me like this, without a fight, in cold blood, eh? I get it, I get. You kill a lot of people, but they're always shooting at you first or stopping you from doing your job or some shit. Noow, here's something for you to think about. Magical girls kill monsters, right? And people are shit, soo they are sometimes monsters. So that's why they have us kill people. Got no problem with that. Here's the thing though: You don't get monsters. Aah, fuck, I am saying it wrong. Basically a monster is shit you don't understand. If you can look at the werewolf, he fucking sucks at his job. +fast+ Isn't killing shit JUST because you don't understand it kind of being a massive cunt though? I bet there's a word for that kind of being a cunt. The library girls are going to know but it's not like I could ask them, lately."

Xenophobia.

[5/11]
>>
>>35177114
"Yeaah, that's the word. Anyway, it's why the Librarians are really evil as shit. They use your fear to have you kill them, and that's alright, but they also ask you questions so they can understand them. It's the closest you can get to really murdering them. There's stalking somebody and killing them which is wrong but human after all, and then there's killing somebody and THEN stalking them, and I can't fucking understand that. I've just stabbed a guy's heart five minutes ago, and it was less fucked up than what they do every day. I've killed him because I hated him, but they kill them because they want to love them. Like I say, fucked up. Well, good to have gotten this out of my head.

No, really, though, what are you waiting for? It's right here on my finger. You're aiming at my chest, that won't do shit. "

I am actually only supposed to kill you as a magical girl if you go crazy before your time runs out. They want your witch flesh - I've told her the truth.

It seemed to sadden her. "That's a shame. I've wanted to meet the pink girl and ask her some shit. But fuck if I remember what it was anymore."

I hear you meet her anyway. The Librarians say she's around the deaths of both Magical Girls and Witches.

"Cool. Tell Jarmila I chose this, and tell Panna she's a bitch. There. If I could have a second go at life I'd swear a lot more, because it fucking doesn't matter. Kurwa."

And then she witched out.

+++P: What was her barrier like?

+++M: Metal.
+pause+
It was like a castle top, with a lot of towers. Isn't there already an important Witch that has a castle for a barrier? Like, an alpha?

+++J: That would be Libuna, the Witch of Harvest. She's a pretty big deal. But she's not really an alpha. Just old, and generally really weird. The Librarians ramble about her a lot, alongside the other bit more legendary ones - like the Walpurgisnacht party.

[6/11]
>>
>>35177136
+++M: Yeah, that one. Well, this one had a labyrinth of rooftops and walkways and bridges. The towers were like crossroads. It had great visibility.

+pause+

Now, there were a lot of ropes and wires between the towers, those were basically the Barrier's ceiling, and this is where it gets freaky. It used organs and tendons for decoration. A lot of blood dripping on you all the time and gore lying everywhere, the sidewalks that you could stand on were all bloody. A lot of it was sticking out of the tower windows, too. It didn't look anything like in a biology handbook, just a bloody mess.
+pause+
A bit under the ropes, and everywhere surrounding where you could really stand, would be the webs. They looked like they were made of some kind of mucus. Really sticky. Maybe that's how all webs look really up close, though. I saw that in the TV once. These webs were in a lot of colors, didn't look like spider webs at all. When I talk about moving through the Barrier, those were the walls, and I would walk on the sidewalks and stairways between the towers alongside them. The bridges themselves were really dangerous, I was afraid of slipping on all the blood, so I couldn't really run after her very fast.
+short pause+
Did I forget to say anything? Hmm, yes. Smooth ground, no cat head pavement or anything of the sort. The towers had windows, gore sticking out of them. You couldn't get into any. The only exception was the central tower where I've initially appeared, that had a bit of an empty space. And there were only more webs down bellow, with no real ground for all I know.

I got a bit ahead of myself. The first thing that I saw was her Witch form. She looked like huge fat ass spider, but also had tentacles for hair, so who knows what she was supposed to be. She had a stinger too, but she never got anywhere close to touching me with it, so I guess it doesn't matter.

I found out right away that was that she was immune to my regular javelins. The one I threw off the bat just stuck to her for a bit, and then clattered on the ground - no good. Even the normal ones I just create to throw are still a magic weapon, so that hairy skin of her must have been really thick. Or it might be the case that they are bad javelins because they're pencils, and that I am just too weak for fighting Witches, physically. I have to cheat with magic a lot every time I do, and so I did again.

I had prepared an enchanted bundle before the fight, and those did work. She caught one sparkly pencil to the belly, screamed, jumped at me, and fell right out of the tower as I've dodged to the side. The javelin broke as she rammed through the entrance, part of it remaining in, so even though it was a shallow hit compared to what I've hoped for, it was still lodged solidly.

The bad part was that I didn't have her cornered anymore, and had to chase her around.

It was an endurance fight. She didn't have the skill to hit me on her own, with her limbs or her butt, because she was so big. Two exchanges after I've caught up with her, and she never tried again. I guess she was obviously afraid of using her jaws, because it meant getting way too close to the spearhead.

So, instead, she would jump around and away, try to dodge what I threw, and try to drown me in Familiars. I became sick and tired of that pretty fast, the webs made her much more agile. A few of those throws, I've managed to actually miss, even when I only went for it when it looked safe. Also, she liked to pull the javelins out with the tentacles, and break them in her jaws. I've learned something for the future there, that only the spearhead - or the graphite, if you will - is what I really enchant. Breaking them was really smart of her. Still, the way she approached this gave me a lot of space to work my magic, which I usually don't get.
+pause+

I really took my time with her. It seemed she became scared of me. Due to that, she let me get away with writing four scrolls during the battle, part by part. I used each right away, so the bundle of ten that I had at the start slowly grew in lethality. I could always see where she and the Familiars were, after all, so I didn't have to worry about being ambushed. Writing one scroll only takes me a minute now, and each one I read is another brick wall that the javelin can pierce through. That's how easy she made it for me.

After returning back to the center and just doing my thing, the Familiars followed me in, so I just stabbed them away and kicked them off.

Her Familiars that would try to prevent me from making them, with not much success, were knights with winged helmets. They were very bad at their job, for being knights. There were already a few kinds of them, though. Isn't that a sign of a great Witch?

+++P: Yes. You still didn't say anything about them, were they spiders?

[9/11]
>>
>>35176995
Hmmm a cute fat Enishi would be cute.
>>
>>35177210
+++M: Shit. Sorry. Right. There were cocoons all over the place and they would burst out of them, but they weren't little spiders. They were white knights with butterfly wings and black knights with dragonfly wings, and they would show up in separate groups. Maybe the knight thing was just armor imagery, because they attacked with claws. Or they would try to to bull rush me off the stairs. I guess they didn't really have space to dogpile me, which is the more classic Familiar tactic. They always had a leader that had a horse-thing, and much bigger wings, but still no weapon - like I said, really varied Familiars.

I saw a few groups of them fighting when they couldn't get to me, but if they had a way, they would try to gang up on me first. Some of the ones that I'd push from a bridge or stairs got caught in the webs, too. I am afraid I really just took a quick stroll through the outside, before getting back at the start and just doing my thing.

+++P: Libuna's Familiars have moth wings. And they are skeletons. That's actually really interesting.

+++T: I heard that a few times. That you can meet them in different Barriers. That if you meet a random midget skeleton with moth wings, a torch, and some sort of a farming tool like a sickle, you should report it. And that it's a really ill omen for you or something.

+++J: Is that so. I've never seen one like that in my life.

+++P: Her Witch Kiss is also fairly famous. There used to be a cult that worshipped her, used it as it's crest.

+++M: Well, I didn't see any of those, either.
+pause+
I guess killing her wasn't any amazing feat. All I did was just enchanting the last two with my final scroll, which was where the marker went dry. I didn't want to blow a Grief Seed to make another, so I just went with what I had. Then I used one of them to nail her to the wall of the central tower, because she was just starting to creep on me from the outside.

[10/11]
>>
>>35177245
I went around the tower to stab her with the final one - she was already breathing her last. There were already six holes in her, so I was confident, and it worked. Got her all the way through the jaws and beyond, then kicked it in for good measure. She took her time dying, but that was it. She was flailing around a lot, so I've expected her to try and to hold onto me with the tentacles. that would make it all messier. In the end, though, she didn't even try that.
+pause+

Also, she bled. Green blood that melted the castle wall I've pinned her to, but not the javelin itself. I took care not to get it on my hands.. Do Witches normally bleed?

+++J: Some do, yeah.

+++M: I am asking because I see through Witches too, and they're usually made of this black smokegoo thing on the inside. The blood seemed to come out of nowhere.
+pause+
Well, that's all. I can't carry corpses like Jarmila, so afterwards, I called up Jackdaw's girls, and they came for the body. It was three blocks to the nearest entrance into the underground. One of them was a Callidus, but even that way, it was risky as hell. They were lucky I could actually cover the path for them though, so just a few people would see them with the bag.
+pause+
Can I wake up now?

[11/12]
>>
>>35177279
+++P: Two more things. Did you look into who she killed afterwards?

+++M: It happened five hours ago, so I didn't have time, neither did I care much. From what I could see through the city walls, there weren't any human corpses anywhere near by. I would notice something like that.

+++P: Did you have a chance to bring any of her flesh?

+++M: I've realized that you'll want that right as she was in her death throes, so I've tried to bring one of the knight things. Just jumped from the sidewalk to a bridge near by, next to a group of them. They weren't that dangerous, but the armor made them tricky to pick up. The one I've grabbed wasn't in my hand anymore when the Barrier had vanished.

+++J: Oh. Could the sucker have escaped? That would be bad. Sounds like it could grow into something dangerous.

+++M: Nah, I think it went down with her.

I can dig it.

Though it would be fun to imagine a legit chubby Midorin.

I think you're not far off, really, but also your style tends to make her seem pretty thin, possibly because she's so tall.

It actually started off as a joke but ssssort of became canon? I think she's in the NECO area where it's a little gray.

The actual heavy girls are Annie and Enishi, and maybe someone else I'm forgetting.

ALSO DECU HAS LEFT THE BUILDING HI I WILL BE TAKING QUESTIONS

You didn't think she'd stay put, did you? also that's not for a while. bad things must be attended to.

Odette is always cute.

Aw, Deculture wrecked my question like a F-16 trashing SA-2 Guidelines over Iraq.

Thanks for the thread.

It's nice to see Iori shine and Ruri get taken down a peg.

What is the proper amount of lewd?
Not for this thread/quest or any specific person/character, just in general.
>>
>>35177443
You bet she is.
And there better be more on the way, because I need my silver-haired Canadian dose.
>>
>>35177477
Yup! I've got the next three-ish chapters of PM sorted out, then I'll be switching to a mini-arc about the Culexus division for a little while.

(A little while at my pace probably meaning like half a year :V)
>>
>>35177459
I love Ruri, I do, but it was really refreshing to see Iori actually not get shit on for a little while.

>>35177464
Me, personally, I prefer more subtle lewd with undertones rather than overt crappy harem anime groping and moaning. I like Mami-style lewd, gotta have class.

>possibly because she's so tall.

She's mostly just tall in comparison to Chiaki lol

For example, in the Halloween drawing, I've been trying to make her arms and legs a bit bigger than Chiaki's. Her waist and torso, too, while Chiaki is slimmer. Maybe it could be a bit more... more? Probably, but, like I've told you before, getting depiction right is always a work in progress

Rest of harem blissfully unaware of not-so-benevolent side of Mami.

Yes, she's so tall compared to Chiaki, but you draw her as REALLY tall compared to Chiaki and more or less only draw her with Chiaki. It's the same reason Wendy looks super tall (and even is in my mind) - she and Midori are both like 5'6, it's just that Chiaki tends to be viewed as tiny down at like 5'2 or 5'3.

No worries. You can't rush silver-haired perfection.

Naturally, but when Mami gets lewd it's something Mami was building up to carefully and subtly so her victim could almost taste it on the tip of her tongue hours before it happens.

...Probably.

Shit I'm projecting my meguca realm again.

I mostly try to use the height chart as a reference point, using the scale established there for reference. Like: "The top of Chiaki's head is around eye level for Midori", but I will admit that sometimes I play fast and loose with the scale just to get a drawing done lol

We need to invest in a better satellite uplink to the Moon so it'll be flood and comet proof.

And a bunker. On stilts.
>>
>>35177735
Honestly if it's cute and gets the effect you want that's great. There almost always seems to be a huge height difference to my eye though.

Size difference is cuter, so it makes me perfectly happy.

If we could only get Ronald Raygun to work his Raygunomics to put SDI modified for comets on the moon for Deculture...

Usually I'm just worried that if I take too long with a chapter people will forget about PM and drop it. Hopefully the next few will be faster, but I've said that a few times before...

Iori x Maki hatesex when?
Yeah either with Ruri is more appropriate but you wouldn't want to NTR Ruri's girlfriend so...

Maybe it's the beret? I dunno. In this one, for example, Midori looks considerably taller but it's pretty clooooose to the scale used in the height chart.

Yeah now that you mention it, the natural scale does feel like a bigger difference than I gave it credit for. But also I think it's the beret.

Could possibly be the height chart itself. Admittedly, I used the PMMM height chart for the scale and then just drew everything according to the relative heights that Decu gave me, so if anything looks off it's Ume-sensei's fault.
