Shoving the molten stone back underground was probably harder than calling it up in the first place- nevermind that you had the bloody magic headache already, but you could feel the pulse of the earth, singing through you as you worked. It wanted to help. Answer your calls. But you wanted it to get back underground, which was apparently confusing for it.

Talking to rocks is a pain.

When all is said and done, you've turned a sparsely grassy meadow into a broken charred wasteland- between you and your over-eager sibling, no plants escaped your wrath.

It'll probably grow back. Eventually.

The trip home is slow going; You keep an even pace to avoid jostling your head too much, though you can't resist talking magic with your father.
"-So, is the whole... communion with elements common then? At least amongst mages?"
"It's not really that simple- Spirits, elements- They have... Well, something approaching a personality, anyway. Likes and dislikes. They might not care for a mage, or they might not care for how they use the element, or they might not care. It goes on. Lightning and storms get along with me, but fire is a bit tetchy at times. It dislikes being contained."
"Tetchy. Fire is tetchy."
"It's a fact."
"This entire conversation is a trip into absurdity, yes."

He looks you over before responding.
"You just finished saying how the earth was trying to help you by pushing up. And the stars love your sister, and help her whenever they can."
"They do!"
You shrug as best you can.
"The fact that it is real in no way detracts from how ridiculous it is, yes?"

He laughs, plodding alongside you, staff in hand.
"Be glad you're a mage rather than a summoner. If they don't like you, your survival is literally at their whim."
"If it is all the same, I will stick to my glaive, yes? It has yet to talk back."
>>
>>35153894
He gets another far off, pensive look going.
"There are artifacts like that, apparently. They can even-"
"No. Absolutely not. I do not need a blade commenting on my wielding, or bothering me to be polished. Weapons should be silent."
Sara giggles, and he snorts again, a lopsided grin on his face.
"Your mother said the same thing."
"As it should be."

You step into your home clearing, Sheszka emerging from a bush licking the remains of some small, and not fast enough animal from her lips. Erics whistles a sharp note, and the ladder drops down from above. The wolf hits it first, shooting up the tree and into the nest, while you and Sara lazily scale the bark. Your father is a bit too lanky for the rope ladder, and struggles all the way up the tree, to your mother's laughter.

Your mother has a wide variety of bottles out from storage, full of all sorts of things- dust, bones, ink. Several are apparently lower than she likes, and she's frowning at them rather fiercely. She waves you off before you can ask.
"We will speak after dinner, yes. Not enough time for them today."

With one abrupt dismissal out of the way, you've got time to burn.

I wonder what we need to do for Grave Arachne.
Can we get the conditions for evolutions that we can't get anymore ?

Wolf Arachnie might be neat. Shezka has ridiculous level speed and teamwork. Maybe It'll lead to that.

Gotta go fast after all.
>>

Anon, you're headed into puberty. Expect long winded descriptions of how your armour doesn't fit in the near future.
And all manner of spiderbutt is possible.

>>35154063
No info just yet. You can pick out physical differences a bit from the picture, and from comparing the names to actual spiders.

>>35153949
Grave Arachne looks pretty scary, I kind of want that, how does the fact that we're a variant affect what we evolve into?

It might be ridiculous, but despite how appealing Wolf Arachne sounds, the hair makes not want to take it.

>>35154378
ok so... the upside of delaying evolution is that we can unlock more achievements and thus get a better variant.

but, does it not damage our XP gain rate? since the amount of XP we gain while growing up acts as a multiplier for all future XP gains?

then again, do we even know that in character?
>>
>>35154429
Not really dude. I've always had a hard on for the weaving.
>>35154457
Grave's power is having a giant silly skull on it.
And wolf's power is having a teensy tiny spiderbutt.

I choose the one that looks like it will improve our abilities without any of that.
>>
>>35154414
Regular Orb Spiders are big web-weaving guys, sounds like what Elle might eventually evolve into

>>35154468
You don't know about the gain rate IC, but your rate is essentially set at max. It won't affect your rate.
>>
>>35154468
Our XP gain rate is already locked.

I think the Grave Spider is based on Lyra as actual warrior and killer, rather then as hunter.
>>
I will probably choose grave spider, simply because it offers a cooler place for Jin to sit on.
>>
>>35154475
Well.. I'll be avoiding the orb weaver vote because it sounds dull to me. Wolf or Grave.
>>
>>35153949
Wolf Arachne seems pretty cool.

Flick hairs the size of crossbow bolts at folk and generally be a fuzzy spider.
>>
>>35154505
>>35154569
As long as we don't know the conditions, we can't really choose.
We won't get offered all three, only the one we meet the conditions for, and if we reject one, we still need to find out and meet the conditions for the other ones.
>>
>>35154507
I think this has been answered before, but what happens if we refuse an evolution, do we reset back to level one and start over?
>>
>>35154624
We stay at 100 until we accept one.
>>
I think our first focus should remain combat
With spellbreaking right behind it - kill mages
Followed by earth manip for utility (build stuff, open ruins, collapse a ceiling on pursuers in a dungeon, etc)

so, evolution should follow that above path...

that, or we should aim at the cutest possible spider. like, a poodle spider (i think that is what it is called)
>>
>>35154662
Yeah, that seems reasonable.

But I want to go with Wolf Spider, because it's fuzzy.

nah getting faster and stronger is in our best interest. If we can get in a few more times practicing with mom. By the time we hit wolf spider we could lose dignified! And then if she evolves she will be whiping us around to a greater degree.
>>
>>35154715
I will support this course of action. One day I hope we will be the wolf spider.
>>
Wolf Spider seems like the one we will most likely get first, since we probably will spend a lot of time with Sheszka and hunting, which the conditions of that one probably revolve around.
>>
Orb looks neat, and nothing called "orb" has ever disappointed. We might even figure out how to use magic without needing a battery or something if we go that route.
>>
I don't want wolf spider mainly because all y dreams of having somebody polish our shell till it's nice and shiny will go down the drain.
>>
Honestly I don't want any of the options
We should just become red widow ++
>>
Honestly, Grave Arachne seems like the best choice.

We don't lose our shiny and we get the ability to move impossibly fast.
>>
>>35154978
it sounds like it would have something to do with magic
but looking it up, orb spiders are named after their orb-webs. so, upgraded web weaving. You can also see they have a HUEG spiderbutt, twice as big as the other spiders. lots of web produced there. path of the trap maker

wolf spiders are known as "robust and agile hunters with excellent eyesight. They live mostly solitary and hunt alone". path of the assassin.

grave spider doesn't exist IRL. but seems to have significantly upgraded natural armor. its the path of the tank.
>>
>>35154978
I like orb the most myself, though I don't know why anyone things it's the magic option.
>>35155064
I prefer this option most, but also think orb LOOKS like arachne++
>>
>>35155030
I don't want wolf spider because us not getting any huger would disappoint Jin. She needs a larger Spider to sit on if she wants to get bigger herself.
>>
>>35155074
Its logical to assume one of them has magic related conditions, since we did do some interesting stuff with magic in the fight against the skelletons. And neither Grave nor Wolf seem like magic. And "Orb" just sounds like magic.

Not really
Orb is definitely a weaver type, the larger abdomen would be for extra silk storage / production space among other things
Wolf is hunter and grave I am guessing is poison and speed

None of those really fit the basic spider but better mould
>>
>>35155097
I'd assume the grave one is more magic-y myself.

Then again, that's because I assume orb is the WEAVY MC WEAVERSON one.
I am also surprised that apparently some anons don't have orb spiders at their house and don't know what they are. I thought they were like, everywhere.

Aesthetic-wise, I prefer our current form to all 3 upgrades.

Grave Spider is the path I would like to see, skull armor is rad as hell.
>>
>>35155158
I dunno, it seems inconvenient.
>>
Let's go orb spider. We use a ton of web traps so that'd be a huge plus to us, we don't really do "getting hit" due to mom's training, and fuzzy spiders are gross as well as not huge.
>>
>>35155136
thank you.
ok so grave is assassin... wolf is... hunter? but a hunter is basically an assassin.
Well, actually there are a lot of many ways to assassinate someone.
Wolf probably gets agility boost
grave probably poison
>>
You take a moment to let mom know where you're headed, waving at Erics and Sara as you head back down. Sheszka joins you seconds later, sliding down the entire ladder with a grin on her face. Taking point, she leads you away from home, towards the heavier forest bordering the swamp.

It's rough going for you- winding through the trees makes if difficult to keep up with your tiny wolf-girl, and pushing yourself to speed in such confines is in no way stealthy. You give up on stealth about twenty minutes in, simply smashing through impeding logs, the dead wood splintering beneath your armoured form.

The stink of the swamp grows, throwing off your tracker- for a bit, anyway. She recovers in short order, though she accepts a square of cloth to tie over her face. You don't really want to consider what the rotting morass must smell like for her.

Reaching a sludgelike river, you arrive just in time as a cross between a crocodile and a turtle pulls itself onto shore, hauling the mangled carcass of one of its smaller brethren up onto the riverbank.

There's no disguising your arrival- You very nearly explode from the woods, accompanied by a cloud of slivers as another unfortunate sapling dissolves. You square off against the creature, jaws nearly large enough to envelop you while Sheszka lopes behind the treeline.

How are you planning this one?

>It has to open its mouth to attack, right? Stab it.

I'd take the first one we unlock, because that is the one that matches our playstyle most closely.

also, those 3 are the common upgrades. I don't think any of them is "magic"... look at the chart, do you see sara's upgrade anywhere on it? no, her path of magic gave her a rare transformation which is not on the chart, one specific to starlight.

Our rare transformation would be some sort of earth themed transformation then

>>35155193
So... about the tummy rubs and ear scratches. We need to get over the notion that it is "demeaning" and treating her like an animal.
Humans LOVE getting massages, this is basically a massage for wolf-girls. She is clearly a person, but its not robbing her of her person-hood to get this kind of skinship
>>
>>35155215
>also, those 3 are the common upgrades.
No no, those are the ones we already partially qualify for. They aren't common, they are those that we have already gottensome conditions of and are therefore likely to get.
>>
>>35155259
I think orb is weaver, man.

I'm not a huge fan of the orb spider. It just seems a little boring.

>>
>>35155259
I thought those 3 were the "common upgrades" rather then stuff we unlocked the requirements for

Also, I had an idea with the mana battery idea. What if we go to a high mana area, and we bundle up a bunch of mana using external manip. and then just use external manip to carry it around with us. It will take training, but eventually we might be able to hold it indefinitely with little to no waste. heck, even in low magic zones there is a LITTLE magic around, so maybe we could just spend a long time gathering and concentrating magic from the environment without ever taking it into our own body.

taking it into your own body is actually there to "refine" it which multiplies its power. a useful step, but we can do without...

>>
>>35155193
This post has made be lean far more towards the Wolf Arachne evolution.

I know a lot of people enjoy the idea of us being HUGE, but it's fairly impractical for a lot of things. Our future career as an adventurer would take a hit if we became much bigger than we are now. We wouldn't be able to fit into a lot of dungeons and ruins.

Also, a lot of adventures require some level of stealth. Currently, we fail at stealth.

My vote may change if we learn more about the possible evolutions, but currently I'm voting for the Wolf Arachne.

But It wouldn't hurt to work on stealth. Mom's stealth is almost x2 ours. She has had time to work on her stealth. Don;t think we've been putting up much time to stealth.
We could put a bit focus on stealth every time we go out and come back from our kills. Would take us longer to get there and come back. but eventually Our speed should continuous get higher and higher as we get comfortable with stealth.

I am fairly certain we're going to get wolf.
Because we keep doing wolfy things.

a viable plan, though I feel bad about hunting down kobolds based entirely on how they are kobolds and kobolds are slavers.

It will probably be entirely correct, but it will still be awkward.
>>
>>35155917
webs have let us win against much stronger opponenets from day one. they are useful for making traps, they can be made into a thing we throw on an enemy to entangle them, and they can be used to create an alarm by cordoning off an area and feeling for vibrations in it.
>>
>>35155877
>sell the moth girl
Yeah, the moths have been hunted badly because of their valuable magic dust.

I've been up for visiting them for a while now. Offer to trade stuff on their behalf and just say hi. While we're their, we could ask about them. Ask if anyone has been lost / who took them.
>>
>>35155936
Only one thing left to do then
Lets take jumbo crocs skull and where it on our shell
We'll be a grave spider with or without the evo
>>
>>35155888
Spiders are stronk, though
>>
>>35155947
I vote for webs constantly and consistently.

Webs are a good idea.
>>
>>35154178
So judging from the three...
Orb: Better bonuses to weaving?
Wolf: Burrowing ability?
Grave: More defense, a major annoyance to elven heroes that wear green tunics?
>>
>>35155957
this.
The only way we can take out the big things is by webbing the fuck out of 'em.

It's as useful if not MORE useful than earth magic, and we can use it any time we want.

Webs are utility as hell and amazing clutch in a fight.
>>
>>35155954
I didn't mean kill them, find them, track them, see if they are involved in something bad.

>>35155964
that actually might be a chance for an economical solution. if the moths willingly start selling the dust in larger quantities it will reduce the price and thus make it less lucrative to enslave them, and the money can be used to hire adventurers to specifically focus on tracking down the location of enslaves moths to rescue and bring their slavers to justice.
>>
>>35155957
This is true. We have been using webs a lot in a supporting role. And they've been damn useful too.

We just haven't been using them as a primary. For that, we've been using our glaive and spider limbs.
>>
>>35155888
It's not like the other evolutions are going to lose webbing powers, we can be a GraveSpider and keep setting up web traps

The wolf spider doesn't really use webs in real life though, at least not like other spiders, they might not be able to web as well as we can now. This is of course me just making assumptions though
>>
>>35156027
I just want to keep pumping webs because, well, webs trivialize SO MUCH of the dungeon process.
We never need to bring rope. We can make walls whenever. We never need to worry about falls. we have easy sources of fire kindling. we never have to worry about clothing.

Web is just... so much our livelihood.
>>
>>35155936
I would never have known that adding this comment would bring about this much discussion about webs
>>
>>35155957
lets see if i remember all the instances
our first hunt, we used webs very effectively against the gnomes
during the battle with the lizards we used webs to trap a couple and get early warning
during the battle with the big bear thing we lured it into a web to limit its movement and then hit it hard
during the battle against the wolf pack... we failed to use web, but won anyways.
>>
>>35156027
>>35156060
we aren't going to lose our web ability no matter what.
the question is, do we need to upgrade it from where it currently stands.
>>
>>35156024
I love and fully support that plan. In fact, we could advance it ourselves. We're an Arachne. We're as wealthy as we want to be. We could easy post stuff on Guild notice boards offering rewards for info on moth slavers.

>Buy location of moth slavers.
>Find moth slavers.
>End moth slavers.
>Bring home rescued moths.

why we can already make cloths.
We can make a rope.. but why do we even need one?
Spider = climb on anything..
I say increasing our web in cloth creation is important but not enough to warrent an evolution towards web weaving.
We could learn embroidery. Or better yet have some one else do it. If you just want it for cloths and ropes.

I think we can still adventure just as much as we want as an orb.
>>
>>35156294
You were saying web was never useful. which was wrong.

Now, with this new modified argument I agree, we have enough web for now and i would rather we focus more on our physical powers.
>>
The beast eyes you warily, turning its head to the side to keep its eye on you. You dance around it, just out of reach, aiming for the stubby legs gripping the ground around it.

As you close in, it twists violently towards you, jaw snapping open and hissing a warning- It simply leaves the jaw wide, hanging menacingly above you. Its a goddamn big crocodile.

You dive in, slipping past a devastating snap of its jaws, your blade sweeping in, tearing into the creatures shoulder and pitching it down. The ground rumbles with its weight, and its head slams violently sideways, jaw creaking open as it drives itself towards you with a flick of its tail.

You skitter backwards, and its jaws close on thin air with a sharp crack- a blur detaches from the woods as Sheszka closes in from a blind spot, tearing at its opposite side.

The beast hisses wildly, swinging its head between the twin threats as you set about crippling it, another solid hit driving your blade deep into its hip. One side fully collapsed, the monster throws itself into a roll, the monstrous bulk of the beast screaming straight towards you.

Your legs bunch beneath you, quivering with energy as the turtledile crashes towards you. You slam a thick line of web, still attached, and-

The clearing is a supernatural tableau- a slow moving river, Sheszka watching, eyes wide. A shell-armoured monstrosity of teeth and scales, twisting, thundering across the ground. You flying overhead, kicking each pair of legs in turn, giving yourself that little extra bit of height.

You can feel the wind of it's passing, brushing your limbs as it goes, just barely missing you. You hit the ground on the other side, letting your web freely spool as the croc spins, lines of heavy white silk blotching its hide.

It smashes into the treeline seconds later, flailing impotently as your trap catches on the trees, binding itself as surely as if you'd done it on your own. Your packmate lopes up to you as you close on the grunting, thrashing mass of beast, and you drive your blade into every unprotected gap you can find, till the clearing runs red and its struggles begin to slow.

You watch its cooling form till you are satisfied with its death- slicing it free from its self made prison, and rigging lines so you can drag it home- the beast is simply too large to fit atop your shell.

You tear a hunk of meat free, offering it to Sheszka- she scarfs it down eagerly, grinning as you pat her head, compliments brightening her smile.

Few predators approach on the way home- the eyes you feel watching you get close enough to identify your cargo before they turn and flee. It brings a smile to your face. You are an alpha predator.

Strong.
>>
>>35157686
Dragging a ton of crocodile behind you is time consuming- You arrive home with the sunset. Getting the beast into the tree isn't even an option- your family descend, Your mother laughing, Aria staring, and your father eyeing the monster cautiously, and you eat on the ground for the evening.

Erics even cooks a pile of meat, the wafting scent of seared steaks driving you into a frenzy- You probably eat more than anyone, barely able to keep up conversation while you shovel the creature into your maw.
"-Why would you even hunt something like this? I don't understand."
"She enjoys the challenge, dearheart. I sent her into town to get armour, because I am certain she wouldn't stop."
"-Mngphm-"

"You seem very sure of that, Nia."
"I was her age, once. I didn't stop. And when was the last time you looked at a dungeon and thought, 'no, too dangerous', Hmm?"
"I- Fair enough I suppose."
He scratches his beard as he watches you gnaw on a hunk of sizzling meat.
"It is just more of the kind of hunt I'd expect you to bring back- not our daughter."

Mom pulls him tight against her side, rubbing her cheek against his.
"Children grow up fast, love. Always too fast for their parents, yes."
"Mmm."

Mom claps her hands as you and your siblings finally slow, genuinely full.
"And now, whelplings, it is off to bed. Your father and I have some business to take care of."
"We do?"
Her smile is predatory.
"We do."
"Ah."

Your siblings look on confused, while you blush and head up as fast as your legs can carry you, burying yourself amidst your wolf and sister.

_________________________________________________________
>>
Imagine the shaving that'd come with wolf spider. That is not a happy thought.
>>
>>35157721

Mom wakes you early in the morning, a lazy blush still across her face.
You groan futilely as she pokes you till you pull your head up, blinking the sleep from your eyes.

"I have a job for you, little wandering spider."
"Mnng?"
"We are running low on moth dust, yes? So you will take jars, and silk, and your wolf, and you will go and fetch us some, yes?"
"Nggrnnm."
"I will assume that's a yes. Head to the ruins, then change directions, away from the river. When you pass a grand stone arch, you've reached their territory- Ask for Sil or Kri. They were the parents you helped, yes? They will be happy to assist you, and I'm sure their own whelps have grown enough to use new silk."

"nnnnnnKay."
She laughs lightly, one arm resting on the other as it props up her chin. You gather up your belongings, bagging your new cargo and sliging it over your shell, where it's joined by the lightly snoozing wolfgirl. Just because Mom woke you up extra early doesn't mean she has to. You rub her ears gently as you set out, sun breaking over the horizon in your wake.

We're a magical arachnid-mammal hybrid. We might develop mammal-like fur. Or maybe not. But I would like to be the FluffySpider.

>>35158171

SO Lyra and Aria were bred to be enforcers! The Bone-breakers, the Heavy-Hand, Sara is the chem mixer, the boys are just watchmen and Elle is to make sure we have some method to transport large quantities!

IT MAKES SENSE!

But it isn't what is happening here.

Sheszka wakes as the sun breaks over the trees, stretching and keeping pace beside you; wide, fang-filled yawns traded back and forth.

Mom's instructions were simple enough. Ruins, head away from the river, pass through giant arch. So, it'll be fine if you look around a bit, right? No harm in that. It's not like you'd, y'know, go into a dungeon. Not for more than a peak, anyway.

You'd only stick our head in the door. Really. Honest.

With that kind of safety-minded determination, you set a zig-zagging away from the ruins, following any strange scents, or tremors. Anything that catches your eyes, really. You snag a few critters that you and Sheszka make short work of, snacking as you travel.

Your search uncovers all sorts of interesting things- there's a broken road that twists through this portion of the woods, complete with moss-covered guardhouses- squat little buildings that certainly weren't designed for comfort. A few abandoned lairs here and there, scattered bones across the forest floor. Maybe they belonged to the prior occupants- If the Arachne and Harpies look after the moths, it wouldn't surprise you if they made sure to drive out any threatening monsters.

You can see the arch peaking over the forest when you hit paydirt- A wide, rune coated set of stairs, neatly concealed beneath a tree, descending into a dark corridor below. You can smell the ancient air- If it was plundered, it was a long time ago. Your palms itch, you lick your lips. It wouldn't take long, right? You could just check it out a bit.

>Head in. It's probably not even a dungeon. Harmless, right?

Your heartbeat skips, just a little. You wave for Sheszka to stand back.

One step.

The runes glimmer, blue tracery starting from the edges of the portal, flaring to life and trailing, wave-like, into the dark.

Two steps.

It repeats, a pulse of magical life blooming with every descent.

Three, four.

You free, still halfway out of the hole- Mom had said she'd been locked in, when she'd taken Lia into a dungeon. And it had take her a day to fight her way free, and that was with her being incautious, is a dungeon long plundered. You look down the steps, a darkness so thick that you can't even properly see through it obscuring your vision, and frown.

You take a half step back, bowing your human half as low as you can, dipping your head below the level of the ground. In the distance below, you can see the waves you unleashed still moving, trailing away into the complex. With a long sigh, you step back.

"Sheszka?"
"Yes?"
"Can you remember the scent of this? This place? I'll want to come back, yes."
"It smells old. Danger."
"Yes."

She circles the sunken stairs a few times, drilling the smell of the clearing, the old rocks into her memory. When she sits sharply, looking to you for further instructions, you lead her away, back towards the stone arch. Trees filter by, and the entire area is clogged with small animals.
>>
>>35160321
You were right about the predators being chased off- There's no way this many critters would be in one place if there was anything to hunt them. Which, of course, means Sheszka is having a field day after you give her permission, catching something new the minutes she has finished her previous meal. She trots after you, groaning, her stomach ever so slightly swollen with the absurd amount of food she's eaten.

Your charge trails behind you as you break from the treeline, stepping into a wide, flower filled clearing. The smell is intoxicating, a light, airy scent that defies description. You had forwards, passing beneath the rough hewn stone, moving towards the trees opposite.

As you step under the boughs, lilting voices reach you from above- A pair of fluffy winged moths standing astride the branches.
"Arachne- What do you seek here?"
You raise your voice, calling back as Shezka catches up.
"I am here to see Sil, or Kri, yes. For trade."

You can hear them whisper, voices hissing back and forth.
"What is the wolf doing here? They do not cross the river."
You look at young girl, edging closer to you before responding.
"She's mine, yes."
She looks up at you, breaking into a smile at your declaration.

Silence falls over the woods. Rustling leaves, chirping birds.
"Very well. Forward, Arachne. The village is ahead."
You head forward, the guards trailing behind in the trees above, into the moth's territory.

The ultimate decision as to what information Lyra has retained from wiki-walking (I say retained since most wiki-walking info goes in one ear and out the other, if it even enters that is) is up to the QM.
I suspect that small things like needles and glasses that the world already perhaps knows about is allowed. But things like making Nuclear bombs are not.
>>
>>35161649
Nukes are a century away or so, but we could still be able to make simple engines, gunpowder, and standardize production. It's pretty simple stuff.
>>
>>35161742
I think the major innovations are going to be methods of thinking (scientific method) and processes (assembly line)
>>
>>35161649
nuclear bombs are actually really simple and easy
the problem is that you need pretty high tech level all around and a lot of resources to build them.

Refining enough uranium for the first nuclear bomb took 10% of all the electricity produced in the united states, over a 6 month period. Not to mention a LOT of uranium and really impressive centrifuges. And advanced regular explosives to create enough pressure and heat to start a chain reaction.

>System administrator. why would we know any of this?

Making projectile weapons really isn't that complicated anon. Hell, if we assumed Lyra's watched a documentary to get the concept down making high powered riffles would probably taker her a month.

We even have the additional benefit of skipping all that extraneous shit like gunpowder reliance since we understand what comes after.
>>
>all this talk about industrial revolution
Fuck that, what we need is a REAL set of sewing needles, like elle.
I know we can do it with our hands, but it's so much easier to stick a string through a needle to stitch than to try to force a string through every time on our spikey finger.
It doesn't have a hole to hold string at all, forcing us to rely entirely on sort of holding it and wrapping it around our finger while we jam it through.
>>

Sounds like a wizard could put one together in a few days if he felt like it.
>>
>>35161825

It actually is.
And before you can even start on it, you need to know how to make black powder.
>>

You're forgetting the precision tools and advanced math needed to calculate the right amount of uranium, at the right concentrations, set at the right distance away (assuming gun-type), with the right amount of explosives, to be set off at the right time, with the right timings.

The idea is simple and easy.
Actually doing it is hard, even with the right tech level.
>>
>>35161862
This. I don't want another frost giantess quest.
Just enough personal level tech to push our adventures forward. Ideas more than detailed knowledge.
>>
>>35161846
Saltpeter, charcoal, sulfur. Grind in a bowl, add small bits of water until it's the consistency of clay, then break it up. Not that complex.
>>
>>35161882
>You're forgetting the precision tools
I am not, they are included in the "you need advanced tech base".

>and advanced math needed to calculate the right amount of uranium
Not actually needed. the first atom bomb exploded with 10x the force of what they calculated. meaning their math was all wrong.
They figures were eventually deduced experimentally.
>>
Does our shield produce infinite amounts of water as long as we wish it to?

If so, when we aren't using it, we could have the thing use a water wheel to push a cart holding ALL OF THE LOOT behind us.
>>
>>35161846
Actually it isn't. And the need for gunpwder is completely nullified by the fact that we live in a world where magical stones exist.

Also, even today gunpowder isn't the best method for making weapons. Why would we bother with an inferior system.
>>
>>35161825
>Making projectile weapons really isn't that complicated anon
Without using wikipedia, can you find the raw materials needed for making black gunpowder, and the refining process, with the correct ratios?
And black powder is pretty terrible for making good guns. For that you need smokeless powder.
That requires making nitroglycerin, and then stabilizing it, then making it into small kernels.
Then you have to get the alloys right in order to manufacture a percussion cap.

And that's before having the precision machining tools needed to actually be able to make this stuff in any quantity higher than a few bullets a day.

This stuff is a lot harder to do when the tools needed to make the tools for refining the raw materials aren't even invented yet.
>>
>>35161924
Where do you get saltpeter and sulfur? What are the ratios?
How long does it have to be set out to dry?

This stuff isn't as easy as you think.
>>
>>35161953
>Also, even today gunpowder isn't the best method for making weapons
we are explicitly talking about making BULLETS
what are you using to make bullets if not gunpowder?

>And the need for gunpwder is completely nullified by the fact that we live in a world where magical stones exist.
if you are just using magic stones, why waste energy using the magic stone to propel a metal slug instead of using it to blow up the enemy directly?
>>
>>35162009
also, guns are not going to be as effective against megafauna with magic toughness
>>
>>35161978
From urine or common fertilizers. Naturally occurring deposits. Five parts saltpeter, one part charcoal, two thirds part sulfur. Until it's dry and can be ground into actual powder.

>>35162024
So we should keep poking them with a knife on the end of a stick.
>>
all this talk about guns, and no mention of Tesla/rail guns
that would be the easiest to do with someone who can into shock magic
>>
I think its going to mainly be ideas that are useful in this land.
Such as the idea of a mine. An explosive set off by someone stepping on it. Just stick a pressure plate rigged to some small pyrophoric material on top of a buried barrel of explosive.

Assembly line. Fletcher cuts the arrow shafts. Blacksmith makes the arrowheads. Assistants of both take it to another man who joins them together.
>>
Fuck guns.
Fuck whatever.
We still need to make our magitech blimp/airship.

A few stabilized stars, a few airtight nets, and we have infinite blimpworks.
>>
>>35162009
>we are explicitly talking about making BULLETS
>what are you using to make bullets if not gunpowder?

And what I'm telling you is that what we're making is am effective projectile weapon which operates in the same fashion as a rifle.

If our propulsion system no longer relies on black powder the why would we crest a entirely redundant system just for the sake of having it?

Our bullets only have to be well designed hunks of metal since our now superior delivery system takes care of propulsion.
>>
>>35162108
A negatively charged piece of metal held between two metal rods which are then suddenly postively charged, right? Also , Page 10.
>>
>>35162102
>So we should keep poking them with a knife on the end of a stick.
it isn't a knife at the end of a stick, and we can use a LOT more force than a human. This isn't comparable to human medieval weapons thanks to magic weapons, magic making us super-humanly strong, and potentially channeling magic through our weapon later on.
>>

You haven't said anything about the superior delivery system except that it will be magic.
Calling this "bullets" is bullshit.

Guns and bullets can be enchanted just as bows and arrows can.

So you've got urine; how do you refine it into saltpeter?
>Naturally occurring deposits
And how do you find these deposits?
What signs do you look for, how do you mine the sulfur?

Except the guy is explicitly arguing for "magic guns" that use "magic" to fire slugs instead of gunpowder. Which is a lot less efficient than enchanting a repeating xbow to just put extra damage.

Also, how do you know small bullets can hold as much magic as a large arrow? and a small gun as much as a large bow? And the materials? is metal as good a magic holder as wood?

Also, note that the key factor in the post you are replying to is that we use supernatural strength to wield a melee weapon. An enchanted gun is not going to have that magic strength behind it.

The only advantage I can ever see of us making an effort for Heavy-duty firearms is Lyra dressing up like she is a soldier from Jin-Roh attached to a Spider tank.

Cool to imagine, but hell to put effort into making happen.

>>Which Evolution we should pick.
Grave Arachne, all day every day~

>>Industrial Revolution
Can't we just introduce penicillin and vaccines and then be done with it?

I'd rather not be responsible for the massive number of deaths that our "industrial revolution" will inevitably bring forth.

I don't see why guns are even being talked about so heavily.

I mean, we have better things like flight. And maybe getting a loom from town.

Fill a barrel with manure and urine with a spout and filter at the bottom, then leave it for around a year. It's not the fastest way, but it works. Saltpeter can also occur naturally in the form of white crystalline on cave walls.

Sulfur is commonly found around volcanoes and hot springs and is notable for its yellow appearance and smell. It's been found and removed by miners since the times of ancient Greece, and with a quick fire resist spell it can be mined faster. We're not dealing with uranium here.

Who's to say that vaccinations don't already exist here? Except they're only used for plagues since being infected with disease is something peopel don't do unless they're really desperate.

REQM I'd just like to say that when I first heard that there would be all three races in the forest I thought that they would all be at war and it would be sad. But they aren't and I'm really glad for that. Thanks, REQM! I'm slightly regretting not picking mothgirl just so we could know what the hell they even DO. But not really, because spiderbutt

Once Mothgirl is added to Lyra's notes-not-a-harem-guyz we shall know ALL of their secrets by default.

Spiderbutt is unintentionally master at the long game, so much that everyone falls in line.
