@QMKingofHearts.

Today is December 11th, UC 0083. You are Commander Dominic O'Hara, Titans, squadron leader for the mobile weapon forces aboard the SCV-82 Valkyrie. You've spent the last seven days in Londenion with your friends and family, and things seem to be going much more smoothly than you had any right to expect. You've taken your friends out around the colony with your family in smaller, more personal groups, and it seems your family has started to accept what (and more importantly who) you've been doing recently. Between a baseball game (Londenion lost 3-1) and a concert (Dvorak's Cello Concerto in b minor), among other goings-on, you've managed to familiarize your family and your crew with each other: and although it was difficult at first, your parents and siblings seem to be accepting the latter into a much broader “family” of sorts. It's encouraging to see.

Too soon, you receive word that the refitting of the Valkyrie has been completed. After saying their goodbyes, the balance of your team leaves you alone with your family for a personal moment. Only the Sisters, Rossweisse, and Haman hang back to wait for you just outside of earshot. A tear comes to Irene's eye as she holds you, practically begging you to come back safely. You promise her that you will, and can't help telling her you still need to meet her new boyfriend. Thankfully, you manage to get her to laugh at that, which stops her crying for a while. Saying goodbye to your brother, Nicky, you find that he's more excited to see you in your Titans uniform than he is sad to see you leave. You're going to have to talk to your mom or dad about that at some point.

Finally your father, festooned with his old Gordon Dress colors, claps you on the shoulder. “Aye, so yer off again', laddie?”

You nod quietly, reaching your arm around to place your own hand on your father's shoulder. “Yeah. Suppose I am.”

“Listen here,” he tells you in a low voice. “Ya remember tha story ah tha Kirk Grim, Dominic?”

Nodding, you grin at him. “Yeah, that's the one with the big dog, right?”

“Tha ghost a the first man ta be buried in a new kirkyard,” he mutters in that same, low voice, “returns as a great, black beast of a hound, more like to a wolf than a dog. Boun' ta keep tha Devil 'imself at bay, an terrifyin' enough ta do tha job.”

“Dad? Where are you going with this?”

“At's you now, Dom,” he tells you. “You an yer friends. Yer tha black wolf-dog, keepin' the Devil ah tha Zabi's ambitions from claimin' any more souls. A fae thin' ta narrow minds, but a welcome protector to those at know tha truth. An though ya may be fae, ya'll always 'ave a home here.”

Your mother joins him. “I have no idea if you're a Newtype, or even if such a thing exists. But I'll grant your father 'fae', fair is fair. Something mighty strange happens around you, Dominic. Enemies become allies, or even lovers, and it's as if you can't even get up and have breakfast without saving at least one innocent life.”

“You're touched somehow, and though it ain't canny I think you'll find it more a more potent gift than your piloting skills in many ways. Use it smartly,” she tells you as she wraps you up in a hug.

“An' remember, tha deed speaks true,” your father tells you, repeating your family's ancient motto as he embraces you next.

>Any other issues before you board the Valkyrie?

>>Any other issues before you board the Valkyrie?

The obligatory "I love you" but nothing else comes to mind.
>>
>>35133547
Give our family one last round of goodbyes. Acquire a bottle of Dad's White Lightning.

Going over last thread, I noticed Nina said they were miniaturizing the Orion Drive for smaller ships and mobile suit use. Does this mean we'll have portable Casaba Howitzers?

And I think we've found our team name: Cerberus. The guardian(s) of the underworld protecting the living from entering and the dead from escaping.
>>
>>35133547
>Any other issues before you board the Valkyrie?
I can't help but think that the new recruits may have already gotten over their surprise regarding the same revelations we made during our stay with our family.
If not, I guess that can be cleared up once we're back on board the Valkyrie anyway.
>>
>>35133584
>animal crackers

Are you nuts? We had our mum's cooking. And cookies. We'd better stockpile those heavenly, buttery, confections.

We'll never have them again once Jamitov gases Londenium, after all.
>>
>>35133643
>team name: Cerberus

The Grim is already an animal from myth.
Why would we go for a different (and admittedly less cool) one?
>>
>>35133785
'Cause Grim and Black Dogs are synonymous with Death. Cerberus is a guardian.
>>
>>35133812
a guardian of the underworld
>>
>>35133812
Dominic's Valkyries I still like that name but Grim is good too.
>>
>>35133812
>Grim and Black Dogs are synonymous with Death

Put away you copy of Harry Potter and learn about actual myths.

A Grim is a guardian specter that returns from death to protect people from demons.
>>
>>35133849
Well, yeah. Cerberus prevents the dead from escaping while insuring the living can't enter the underworld.

Actually, now that I think of it. We could go with Barghest.

>>35133862
>Harry Potter

You what. I've always heard black dogs and grim were regarded as specters of death in folklore. Hellhounds, Demon-dogs, y'know. Nasty juju.
>>
>>35133547
"You know," you tell your father, "I could do with some specific provisions."

He raises an eyebrow. "Tha gin?"

"The gin," you reply, nodding. "Also, I could do with some of those cookies, if there are any left."

Your mother takes a tupperware container out of her purse. "Baked the lot of them this morning, while you were sleeping in."

After another round of goodbyes, and a promise from your old man that he'll send you a few bottles of gin before your scheduled departure later today, you rejoin your crew and head towards the Valkyrie.

"Always nice to see a regular family," Haman says to nobody in particular. "Isn't it?"

"Just imagine how our family's gonna look one day," Catrina replies, jabbing you in the ribs. "Five parents and God only knows how many kids. Lots of sleepless nights."

You shudder at the thought. "I hope they're not all little shits like I was."

Haman and Rossweisse seem to be at a loss for words.

When you finally spot the Valkyrie, some of the changes are immediately evident: there's now one long hangar along the midline, with what looks to be a double catapult, and the whole ship bristles with anti-air defenses.

Where to even begin working out all the changes?
>Call up Nina, have her give you the numbers
>Check out the hangar deck: you're the MS squad commander, after all
>Go down to sickbay, talk to Miss Sayla about the status of your Newtype crewmates
>Other

As always, write-ins are encouraged. If you want to focus on more specific issues, feel free to raise them.
>>
>>35133995
>>Call up Nina, have her give you the numbers
Time for work

>>35133902

That's like saying spirits are evil and ignoring the concept of guardian spirits who exist to save people.

Grim are guardians, they protect people and places from evil.

That's different from a Hellhounds which generally does whatever the fuck it wants (usually just killing and eating whatever it sees).

If you want you could even call Grim (is the plural of grim still grim?) a "good" subclass of demon-dogs.
>>
>>35133995
>Check out the hangar deck: you're the MS squad commander, after all
>>
>>35133995
>>Go down to sickbay, talk to Miss Sayla about the status of your Newtype crewmates
>>
>>35133995
>Check out the hangar deck: you're the MS squad commander, after all
MS and one odd MA out. So yeah, hangar space is gonna be a premium if we're keeping the VV inside.
>>
>>35133902
The Grim, also sometimes called the "Kirk Grim", "Church Grim", or "Faerie Grim", is always associated with death, but is rarely if ever presented as malicious (unless you're Satan). Other "Black Dogs", like the Barghest or Black Shuck, are malevolent. The Manx Moddey Dhoo is an omen of death.

So it varies.
>>
>>35133995
The most important question, did they extend the retrieval and launch deck from bow to stern? Ask Joshua what the changes are. She's the Cap'n, so she'll be far more up-to-date and knowledge regarding her ship.

What did we accomplish during the time skip anyway?

>>35134009
>>35134071
I guess it's how you view it. My family is pretty heavy bible thumpers so it's rubbed off on me, even if I never did see fully with their viewpoint, regarding ill omens, religious symbols, and shit.
>>
>>35133995
>Call up Nina, have her give you the numbers
>Check out the hangar deck: you're the MS squad commander, after all
No reason we can't do both. Call her while checking out what's been done to the ship.

Also, spread out, have each team member find out more about what's going on.
>>
>>35133995
>Check out the hangar deck: you're the MS squad commander, after all
Emary Ounce can probably give us the rundown on the new specs of the ship.
>>
Since the Titan's have had a week to install bugs and cameras, are we going to do a sweep to find them? You know they're not going to let a team full of Newtypes off without surveillance.
>>
>>35134299
Probably, or we'll try to find a place where we can hide to have safe communication.

I mean, knowing the Titans, they'll ask for an explanation on what happened to their bugs (or as they'll call it, their security and loyalty measures).
>>
>>35133995
"I'm headed straight for the MS deck" you announce. "Kind of important to see whether Titans has tried to screw us yet."

Haman nods. "I'll be checking in on Miss Mass and Fanning. I hope she's recovered somewhat..."

Carya splits off down the corridor towards the grav-blocks. "I'm gonna head to the ready room and look into something. I'll probably be there for a while."

Rossweisse merely gives you a look and says "Karen," before heading up to the bridge.

In the hangar, you see Emary and Audrey hard at work sorting out the logistics for your mobile suits: the Lilium, Viola, and Iris are there, as is the Kampfer. In addition to those are two GM-type machines, and two more machines that look like Zakus, but have unusual contours to their armor. These four machines are also equipped with bulky add-ons, including retro-thrusters.

Absent are the Tusche Scwarz and the Val Varo.

Audrey turns and spots you, waving you over.

>>Reaction? Questions? Plans for possible upgrades?

"Dammit. Audrey, what's the damage?"

...did they just swipe the Varo and leave us a Zaku?
>>
>>35134343
>Tusche Scwarz-tan and Val Varo-tan where are they?
>>
>>35134343
"Tell me you gutted the psychommu system from the Schwarz before they swiped it. And Kelley's controls and OS from the Val Varo."

>they took the Tusche Schwarz
>AND the Val Varo

We didn't even get a chance to test the damn thing. And I had upgrade ideas for both.

At least we got Hizacks and Quels. Movable Frame GET.
>>
>>35134343
"That doesn't look like no Zaku ladies, no Zaku!"
>>
>>35134343
Lets see what the deal is with the new machines. And ask about where the TS and VV are.

Maybe the new machines could give us some ideas on possible upgrades. Like outfitting our old stuff with the movable frames.
>>
>>35134343
Damn it all not the Val Varo, and dang it who the heck did they give us to pilot those new mobile suits.
>>
>>35134343
>Reaction?
>two more machines that look like Zakus
Ironic that for an organization tasked with hunting down Zeon remnants that they'll make use of Zeon's design aesthetic.

>Questions?
"So what do we have here? Sell 'em to me Audrey. And how's the Lilium shaping up?"

>Plans for possible upgrades?
I'll hold off any suggestions in this for now until Audrey gives us the run down.
>>
>>35134343
Anyway, upgrade plans:

Turn the Kampfer into a Xeku Zwei.

Find out WHAT psychommu tech the Titan's left us with and raise a stink about them swiping machines we stole/gifted ourselves in the first place.

Gut the mega particle cannons from the Valkyrie and turn the turret mounts into open bunkers for mobile suits.

See about installing a psychommu package into the ship for thought controlled anti-air turrets and for our psychomines.
>>
>>35134343
>>35134600

>raise a stink about them swiping machines we stole/gifted ourselves in the first place.

Specifically ask Nina to get on this. She'd probably know this game.
Giving them shit for something that's not a major issue will stop them from using us for random shit later.
>>
>>35134648
War looting rights?
>>
>>35134648
Why would Nina know what the Titans are up to?

She works for Anaheim, and essentially the Titans are the only group smart enough to stop using Anaheim and build their own shit. That's the whole reason the AEUG steal the Mk.IIs for, is because Anaheim get locked out and they want to steal the Titan's designs
>>
>>35134600
>See about installing a psychommu package into the ship for thought controlled anti-air turrets and for our psychomines.
That sounds pretty great.

>Turn the Kampfer into a Xeku Zwei.
Maybe start with the Xeku Eins, since it'll let us change the suit's configuration depending on what we need to do and since we're short on resources?
>>
>>35134343
"Shit," you mutter as you draw close to Audrey. "Alright, how bad is it?"

"Not as bad as it looks," she replies. "We've got four new suits and orders to evaluate them: two GM QUELS, and two Hizacks. These are pre-production units, so we'll be the first to use 'em."

"And their capabilities? I assumed they were no Zakus, but are they any better?"

She shrugs. "Not bad. The Hizacks seem solid, and they're using Gundarium alloy, so they should be rugged enough."

Emary nods. "They've also got 'ballute' systems mounted for re-entry. You'll be evaluating those as well."

"What happened to the Val Varo and the captured psycommu machine?" you press.

Audrey shakes her head. "That was part of the deal Kowen struck, apparently. We got the hangar lengthened, but we were ordered to dismantle the Val Varo for an in-depth study. It's in pieces down below."

"And the black machine?"

"Dismantled," Emary sighs. "We wanted to see how far Axis got in restoring their Newtype weapons program after your raid. The answer is 'not very'... the Tusche Schwarz is a mess."

"Its psycommu is incomplete," Audrey explains, "to the point where it was only usable if the pilot was heavily drugged to erase the pain caused by the interface."

You sigh. "So it's worthless to us."

"Utterly and completely wasted space," Audrey agrees. "But it tells us what to expect from Axis and Mars in the future: cheaply produced suits meant to turn Newtypes into expendable weapons."

"Bastards," you snarl. "At least tell me you got the control software for the Val Varo."

"We did," Emary tells you. "And we're considering possible applications even now."

"And did we get any fresh pilots?"

Audrey shakes her head. "Not that I know of. You'd have to ask Reiko or Karen."

>One more thing... (suggest something for them to work on?)
>I'll go see Karen then

>>
>>35134713
>Why would Nina know what the Titans are up to?
I can tell you have no idea what I'm talking about because your answer isn't even vaguely related.

It's a bit of in house bureaucracy that Nina should have a ton of experience with. We ask her help making some incredibly irritating claim reports and the Titans never swipe something from us again without thinking twice.

Hopefully Sayla has some leads into helping the poor girl. She probably also might want to hear on how bad the psycommu was.
>>
>>35134648
>>35134713
Nina is going to get herself shitcanned by Vist and other Important People if she continues snooping.

>no fresh pilots

Start running pilot simulations for Hollinger and Blitzen. If Titan's won't give us pilots, we'll train our own damn pilots. Plus it gives us an insight into how well the new grunt suits handle with FNGs.

>the val varo's psychommu is still here

OH BOY OH BOY INSTALL IT INTO THE VALKYRIE

>Tusche Schwarz is junk

Damnit Zeon. Use the Schwarz's psychommu system to expand the Val Varo's and for spare parts.

>Suggestion
Have the team start going over the ship for bugs.

>>35134793
Yep.
>>
>>35134802
Oh then I can ask almost the same question. Nina is an outside contractor, why would she know military regulations better than us military officers, or I don't know the military staff on our ship like Reiko?

And kicking up a fuss doesn't stop people from stealing your shit. It means they stop giving you shit when you actually need it. The way to stop the Titans taking things, is to stop telling them we have stuff. Bureaucracy is fine in normal organisations, but the Titans are an elite group designed to gas colonies with no-paperwork, bureaucracy isn't going to stop them if they really want something.

>>35134898
>Nina is going to get herself shitcanned by Vist and other Important People if she continues snooping.
We can only hope.

>no fresh pilots
Uh, just get Karen and Sayla piloting again?
>>
>>35134778
>One more thing... (suggest something for them to work on?)
Install the VV's psycommu into the ship. Those mines we used were great, having them again would be nice. Or combine it with the turrets to increase their efficiency.

Actually, could we turn the turrets into bits for the ship?
>>
>>35134971
The val varo has no psycommu. It's designed to be controlled by psycommu: it can receive, not send.
>>
>>35134952

There's also Pazom. Don't forget. Plus, as I mentioned, it also gives us insight into how good the manual for the new suits are. If the secretaries can read it and pilot like Amuro, we have a winner.
>>
>>35134778
>One more thing...
Whatever happened to that Minovsky Particle Interference Wave Searcher? If it's to unwieldy for an MS, it might be useful for the ship's detection capabilities instead.

Personal opinion, but I kinda want it in Audrey's unit since she is the long range fire support.
>>
>>35134778
>>One more thing... (suggest something for them to work on?)
The control software for the Val Varo when possible in the MS(s?)
>>
>>35135058
That's actually a cool idea. Get some GMs and install the system into them.
>>
>>35135058
That was an idea I had for adding the sub-arms to our suits. We modify and expand Kelley's control scheme and OS to work with the Liliums instead of building something from scratch. Don't need to reinvent the wheel when someone already designed it.
>>
>>35135075
Its for one arm what happens when its in each one? More complex moves.
>>
>>35134778
"Okay," you tell them. "Audrey, wrap up here, then make sure we've got the new psycommu on Carya and Catrina's suit initialized. Emary, I want you sweeping the ship for bugs. Stem to stern, keel to bridge."

Both women nod. "I'll bring the MIPWS online," Emary tells you. "Locating signals from any hidden devices should be a good test."

You cock an eyebrow. "We got that off the record?"

She nods. "Completely."

"Great. I'll be down in sickbay."

On your way to visit Sayla, Haman, and Rebecca Fanning, you can feel the three Newtype women's presence. Nothing feels off, though Haman's emotions seem mixed right now. Upon stepping through the hatch, you find the reason.

Rebecca Fanning is up and about, and smiling... but her movements strike you as sluggish, and her speech is uneven and halting as she talks with Haman about nothing in particular.

"Her system is clear of the drugs," Sayla explains sadly, "but she's still adjusting to regular activities. It'll be a slow process."

Fanning looks over her shoulder at you and smiles.

"Hi there, Rebecca," you greet the young woman, forcing a grin. "How're you feeling?"

"I'm okay," she replies. As she turns towards you she seems to lose her balance a little, though Haman quickly lends her a hand.

"And are you getting used to things here?"

"Everyone is so... nice..." Fanning replies, struggling a little with her words. "But I have trouble... remembering..."

"That's understandable," Sayla reassures her. "You're getting better, though."

"Mhm," comes a simple reply. "I'm happy... you visited."

After a few more minutes of conversation, and seeing that Fanning is in no shape to discuss anything beyond pleasantries, you and Haman excuse yourselves before things start to get awkward.

"Come back... soon..." Fanning struggles as she waves at you through the hatch.

"I'll be sure to," you tell her. "Just keep getting better, okay?"

"Right now I think Sayla has the hardest job on the ship," Haman observes.

"Speaking of ships," you tell her, trying to change the subject, "were you thinking of a design for the Republic to work on?"

Haman blushes a little. "Sort of."

"Well?" you press. "Anything special about it?"

"You have to promise not to tease me," she replies, blushing even harder. "I mean, it's my first time designing a ship, and I may have suggested some pretty stupid details..."

"Of course," you respond, puffing out your chest a little. "A true gentleman would never mock the sincere efforts of his lady."

"Shut up," she mutters. "Anyway, I was figuring that the biggest waste of space on our ship now is the gravity block. So I eliminated it."

"But that leads to health concerns over long deployments," you point out.

"Yes," she admits, "but that still doesn't change the fact that a small cylinder's rotation has to be above 6 rpm to achieve any sort of meaningful effect. Big colonies are easier to adjust to, but 6 rpm in a smaller habitat can cause all sorts of issues."
(1/2)
>>
>>35135674
The Liliums are getting upgraded with Core Block Systems, allowing them to divide into two planes. This requires a second cockpit, which during docking will be used to control a set of sub-arms. I'm also expecting that the beam sabers will double as guns, so when they're stored at the waist the Leg Flyer can have some weapons. We don't really have anything else on our lower body, it needs to have something.
>>
>>35135898
Could we apply the movable frames somehow to that?
>>
>>35135871
Better double up on gyms or have the ship itself rotate to generate gravity.

If there's no gravity, fluids will get EVERYWHERE.
>>
>>35136005
Movable frame doesn't exist yet. Which is a problem, since it'll lead to high mechanical stress when transforming. In all likelihood, movable frame will probably be invented as a by-product of the efforts to make the Ikebanas require less maintenance.

>>35136021
I think she's just going to do the "gravity block on a stick" thing that gets used on the Argama and all descendent ships of it.
>>
>>35135871
As you feel a surge of aggravation from the ready room, you continue to discuss technical matters with Haman. "And to minimize the effects of a fast spin, the grav blocks are larger than they need to be."

Haman nods. "And in order to adjust to atmospheric conditions, even more space has to be wasted."

"And you think you can solve that?" you ask, shaking your head. "How?"

"It'd have a deck with diamagnetic repulsion to simulate gravity," Haman explains. "I think I've worked out how to employ it in such a way that minimizes the amount of space it would use, and electromagnets today make it possible where it wouldn't have been fifty years ago."

"So you made the ship smaller?" you conclude.

Haman nods again. "Right. Without altering the mobile suit compliment."

"That leads to an increased power draw," you observe. "Though it'd simplify maintenance with the fewer moving parts, and lengthen service intervals."

"It's a work in progress," Haman admits.

"Fair enough."

"So," Haman asks, "where to now?"

We discussed that a few threads back. The conclusion we agreed upon was that since I-Fields only protect against attacks from outside the radius of the field, and mobile suits are excellent at getting close in with a ship, it wouldn't be worth the investment. Maybe if we had the tech to draw the I-Field in tight against the hull it would be worth it, but Minovsky particles can't be manipulated that freely yet.
>>
>>35136190
because then the ship would be a freaking cylinder. not to mention messing with sensors and stuff. And increased fuel costs and stuff like that.

That would be pretty much building an entire gravity block
>>
>>35136190
If you rotate the whole ship, you have centrifugal force operating dorsally and ventrally. MEaning you either have to fix the floors in opposite directions, or waste even more space to reconfigure when in Earth gravity.

Or you have to have the axis of rotation OUTside the ship, which wastes a ton of propellant on station keeping.

"It seems Catrina's bashing her head against the computers over in our ready room," you observe. "Someone should do something about that."

Haman shrugs. "She's not my girlfriend."

"I'm sure Catrina would be happy to change that," you mutter.

Haman ignores your remark, though you're sure you see a faint blush in her cheeks. "I'll go see if Rosse has any news from Karen and meet you down there. Try to get to her before she does any permanent damage?"

"No promises," you shrug.

By the time you reach the Sisters, their tantrum has abated somewhat. There's a thin trickle of blood coming from her forehead... apparently from one of the two banging their head against the desktop, which now has a large crack in the surface. Reiko and Catherine are also here, as it happens: the former is swabbing the cut over the Sisters' eye, and the latter is working at her own terminal.

"Even WITH Titans clearance," Carrina snarls, her eyes glowing violet, "I can't get any fucking intel on what's going on in those damned Newtype labs. Just a list of project names and some technical personnel rosters."

"That bad?" you ask, sitting down. "No luck from you two, either?"

"I had more luck with open records from the Dakar," Catherine replies wearily. "All I got was a report on funding allocation. Lots of money going in, no word of anything coming out."

Follow the data on psy-commu development on the Feddie side (most of which we had a hand in acquiring), cross reference with MS developments Nina provided, and we'll probably pinpoint where potential Cyber-Newtypes will be deployed in the near future.

"And that's the size of it," Carrina snorts derisively.

You shake your head. "Ever thought of just calling them up and asking?"

"I did," she replies with a straight face. "Told them I was you, and ordered them to tell me exactly what "Red Snake" was." You look at her in horror, before she melts into raucous laughter.

"Holy shit," she gasps, "you should have seen your fucking face!"

You slap her lightly over the head with a nearby field manual. "Not funny, Carrina."

"I'm sorry," she offers. "I just had to feel like I got SOMETHING accomplished, even if it's just teasing you a bit."

"Let's try a change of pace," you offer. "Try looking into some other issues I've noticed, see if we can make a bit of progress elsewhere."

The Sisters' eyes shift back to a sparkling blue as Catrina's consciousness splits off again. "Sure," she tells you warily. "It'd feel real good to beat Titans' information security in SOME regard. What do you want to look at?"

Reiko and Catherine turn in their chairs to listen in for their marching orders.

"Let's try looking into a few of Anaheim's MS construction projects," you decide after a few seconds mulling the options over. "See if we can get data on research, or a schedule of deadlines or something."

Reiko nods. "On it." Carya and Catherine also go to work on their own machines.

Quickly, you run into problems.

"I've got a schedule," Reiko announces, "but it's fairly secured. It'll be tough to get at it this way, and there's a high chance of our getting noticed by someone at Anaheim."

"Something's strange here," Carya mutters to you. "Can you feel it? It's almost like I'm being watched."

You frown at the screen in front of you. "Yeah... I can feel it."

"Any chance the ready room has been bugged?" you ask her.

"That was the first spot we checked," she replies. "Nothing was there, but we did find one on the bridge that we've disabled."

"Got it, thanks."

You then nod to your secretaries. "Alright, go for it. But be careful."

"Roger that," Catherine replies.

After several tense minutes, you feel something strange. For just a splintered second, you feel almost like there are six people in the room instead of five. Carya looks uneasily at you.

"Strange," Reiko mutters. "I was sure we just triggered a security response on Anaheim's end."

"Are we clear?" Carya demands.

Catherine nods. "Yeah. We're good. I've got the file, and I'll make it available on both of your personal drives."

You nod, satisfied. "Excellent work. I'll go over the data later."

Rossweisse pops her head in the door. "Bridge?" she asks.

Carya blinks once. "Karen wants us up there to discuss our next mission, right?" Rossweisse merely nods.

"Alright, let's get a move on, ladies," Catrina orders, cracking her neck as she stands up and stretches.

Okay, I looked it up, and while I may not be right, it's not certain that I am wrong. We first slept with the twins three months ago. The fetal brain is fully formed, if not fully developed, at three months into the pregnancy. It is possible for a fetal Newtype to use their powers. The cursor blinks for several long seconds. No response... just a growing feeling of embarrassment on your part. Pushing that feeling aside, you continue to enter prompts.

Your questions remain unanswered. You sense that your team is starting to wonder whether you'll be catching up with them at all. As you start to wonder whether it was all in your head, you type one last message.

>You have nothing to be afraid of here. We can talk more later, if you'd like.

After a few seconds, you get a reply.
>I'd like that. Thank you.

On your way to the bridge, you have to wonder how 'smart' ALICE is. 'She' has presumably been here since some time during the refit, and you're pretty sure someone would have told you that your new ship had an AI if anyone had met 'her'. Does that mean that 'she' has been alone this whole time? Does an AI feel loneliness, even surrounded by humans?

Karen frowns at you as you step out onto the bridge. "We've been waiting on you, Commander," she tells you, using your rank rather than your name. It's a good hint that she's frustrated with you.

"It's not like you at all. What kept you?"

"Did you know our ship has an AI?" you ask her, to general surprise and confusion.

Karen shakes her head. "No. I have no idea what the hell you're talking about."

"I mean I found out about that project Nina mentioned, 'ALICE'. It's an artificial intelligence, and someone installed it on the Valkyrie during the refit."

"How do you know?" Audrey asks. "I assume you have evidence?"

"I had a chat with 'her' using command windows."

Carya shakes her head, and Rosse gives you a grin. "She?"

"It's called 'ALICE'," you explain.

"Fair point," Haman admits.

"We'll investigate that later," Karen continues. "But I've called you here to talk about the mission: we're to take the two new GM QUELS and the Hizacks back to Earth and deploy from low orbit over former Tajikistani territory. Our target is a remnants base in the foothills of the Karakoram mountains."

"Due to its location," Audrey adds, "EFF forces have so far been unable to root Zeon out of it, even with local help from the Tajiks."

"So it's an orbital drop," you mutter. "With all new systems too..."

"So who's going?" Carya asks aloud, giving voice to the question on all of your minds.

No. The present line of ballute systems are incompatible.
>>
>>35138753
And we have to do this with the new suits? Well, I suppose we are still an evaluations team, technically. Alright:

>Quells
Us and Emma

>Hizacks
Sisters and Audrey

Emma has experience with the Quell, so she'd be best served there, while the Sisters might be able to compare the Hizack to Zeon designs. Ross and Haman stay behind because they're less useful without Newtype systems. I suppose Rossweisse could use one of the Hizacks, but I want to give Audrey a chance to shine. Hizacks are good sniper platforms, it'll fit her style.

And don't bring Ilia. That's a terrible idea, I don't know why people want it.

>>

Ah, damn. I was hoping to bring one just for insurance purposes.

Dom, Haman, Audrey, and the Twins all went into the Quel simulator. Stick Dom and the Twins in a Hizack for testing while putting Sheen and Haman in the Quels as they'd be more familiar with them after playing in the sims.

We can look at getting Pazom out in the field at a later date.

>don't bring Ilia. That's a terrible idea
Yes it is.
>>
>>35138753
Audrey and Emma in the QUELs, Sisters and us in the Hizacks. Don't bring Ilia onto the team, not yet anyway. The Sisters and Haman already had compromised loyalties to Zeon when we recruited them. Ilia didn't. We need some more time to bring her around before we consider it.
>>
>>35138867
>less useful without Newtype systems

Haman beat our time in the Quel simulator if I remember right. She'd probably take to the new suit far more easily than we will. Honestly, sticking her in a Hizack with the Twins would be the best option. They could give their opinions on how to improve the tech.
>>
So I'm just gonna come out and ask it. I know there's Anons thinking about this.

When are we gonna sex up ALICE? I figure with Puru clones we can download her into the brain with NEWTYPE magic and advance her age till she's legal.

Good idea?
>>
>>35138868
Taking two FNGs/unknowns on an OP is suicide. One is the limit.
>>
>>35138753
Us and Emma on the QUELs.
CC and Audrey on the Hizacks.

Seems like a good balance of Newtypes/Oldtypes for this task. Would've wanted Audrey on one of the QUELs, but since the Hizack has a better performance, it's better to put the more experienced pilot in it.

And here's a thought: Can Haman drop and guide Psycho Mines from orbit?

You quietly eye your teammates. "Emma and I will take the QUELs. She's got the most experience on that model, and I've got the most experience with GMs. Audrey and the Sisters will take the new Hizacks."

"But we..." Haman begins.

"... will be waiting in reserve with Lilium-class machines," you finish. "The Valkyrie has its own ballute, right?"

Audrey nods. "How'd you guess?"

"A hunch. We'll clear a landing zone, and the Valkyrie can drop and provide support while we mop up."

"Sounds like a plan," Karen agrees. "Alright. We've also got Earthside Titans support arranged: a major air drop after the initial assault."

"Have we contacted those forces?" you ask.

"Not yet," Karen replies. "The plan was to do that en route."

Yeah, ALICE was originally designed as a mobile suit control system, so she was designed to bond to and fall in love with her pilot so that she'd work with him instead of against. Though then some bright fellow decided that it could be bad if the pilot didn't reciprocate her feelings, and made her incapable of actually communicating with him to avoid any awkward conversations. They made a sapient AI and then locked her away in a box where she couldn't ever contact anyone. I'm glad the set up we have lets her talk to us, otherwise she could go insane. She died before she could do that in the story, but if she's with us hopefully she'll live longer. Best to avoid any madness arising.

"What do the overheads show?" Carya asks. "What are we even in for?"

Audrey waves to Noel, who punches a button on her console. The Valkyrie's main screens begin to display all the relevant data supplied to you so far by Titans.

"Six to eight unique heat signatures," Audrey tells you, "consistent with mobile suits. Unknown classification, though contact has been made with at least three Dom Tropen. There are also about a dozen MBTs and some fighters. Ground troops unknown."

"Those structures could be a problem," Haman observes, eying the low warrens surrounding the main airstrip at the base you plan to attack.

Reiko nods. "I can get you a street map to help navigate, and program the locations of key targets into your HUDs."

"Good cover for mobile suits," Carya observes. "If it were me defending the place, I'd station them all within that area to take advantage of the disrupted lines of sight. Moving fast will keep us alive."

"And that's it," Karen tells you. "We'll update the Titans forces with our current machine lineup so there'll be no friendly fire, but until then, get some rest and relaxation. Dismissed."

"So. Karen," you whisper to her in a low voice as your team file out a few at a time. "Izzit true there's some kinda bathhouse on our ship now?"

Karen gives you a smirk. "Wanna investigate?"

Oh HELL NO. No backing down now.

You grin right the fuck back at Karen, and lock eyes with her. "Miss Joshua," you ask in the closest tone you can manage to innocence, "are you trying to seduce me?"

For a moment Karen seems surprised: possibly because it took her a moment to realize her own words. But still, she manages to recover and rally back. She's making it clear that she won't back down either now.

"And what makes you think I'd want to seduce a boy like you?" she asks, stepping closer to poke your chest. "You're barely even a man."

You grab hold of Karen's hand and pull it aside, stepping in yourself to bring your faces even closer. Her eyes widen slightly in surprise: she clearly wasn't expecting you to keep on the offensive. She may have even though she'd won.

Now, you stand close enough that your difference in height is obvious. "In age, maybe. But don't tell me it doesn't pique your interest in the slightest: having someone as young, and yet so strong, and so skilled, right within arm's reach. Don't tell me you've never found your thoughts running a bit wild, wondering what could be..."

Looking down, you find that you may have pushed too far: Karen's face, perhaps for the first time since you've known her, is blushing furiously.

YOU COULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS.

Still surprised at the turn of events, you find yourself leaning in towards Karen, heat spreading across your face. Her eyes droop closed, and she makes no attempt to move away from you.

Despite the absence of resistance, something makes you stop. It feels wrong... Karen doesn't want this. She's not ready for it, and though some part of her wants this to happen, there's another part that's terrified of it. It paralyzes her, leaving her unable to resist rather than actually welcoming.

For an awkward few seconds which feel like hours, you stand close to Karen... and then step away.

"I'm sorry," you apologize to her. "That got out of hand."

Karen's eyes finally open, though she can't look straight at you. "Well THIS is awkward as fuck."

"Well, not LITERALLY," comes a voice from the doorway. Turning to look you spot Carya, a single, slender eyebrow cocked at the display she's just witnessed.

"I think fucking would have been more awkward still," Catrina finishes.

"How long have you been there, Lieutenant?" Karen snaps.

"Oh, so THEY get to watch?" Carya retorts, nodding at Noel and Miyu, who quickly turn their focus entirely to their stations... though not nearly quick enough.

Karen sighs. "Just don't tell anyone what you saw here," she tells the Sisters. "We don't need any more rumors on this ship."

"You could probably feel the sexual tension from the far side of the Earth Sphere," Carya replies smugly. "But my lips are sealed."

The Sisters' eyes lock on you again. "Come on down, Dom," she tells you. "If you still want to mack on someone, there's a target rich environment over in the officer's grav block."

They turn their head to address Karen again. "And if you've still got the fortitude, you can come along as well," Catrina finishes before dragging you off the bridge by your arm.

Once clear of the bridge entirely, Carya speaks up again. "What exactly happened just now, Dominic?" she asks, not turning around to face you.

You shake your head as you stop, and the Sisters finally turn to face you. "Things... kind of escalated faster than either of us guessed was possible, and neither of us wanted to back down."

"And you didn't kiss?" Carya asks, less angrily and more out of curiosity, it seems.

You nod. "She seemed terrified, so I couldn't. And the more I stopped to think about it, the crazier it seemed. It felt wrong: like I was betraying all of your faith in me, hers included."

"And so you couldn't follow through?"

You shake your head quietly.

"No."

Carya sighs loudly, and continues to pull you along. "Honestly, we've been worried about Karen for a while. She seems like she deliberately distances herself from the rest of us."

"So... you're not mad at me?"

Catrina laughs loudly at you. "No, Dom. We already told you: for the most part your dick and where you put it is your own business. We were more concerned of a little something called the "Hedgehog Dilemma". You heard of it?"

You shake your head.

"It's when two people grow closer to each other, but end up hurting one another the closer they get. We were concerned that if one of us ever started to crack through Karen's tough facade at all, it could really hurt her."

"And you were worried if I lost control of the situation, I could cause some serious emotional damage?" you ask. Carya nods.

"Exactly. But I for one feel a little bad for not trusting you."

"Just... be careful, however you decide to handle this mess," Catrina adds. "You saw more clearly than ever: Karen's tough, but she has her own vulnerabilities that most people never see BECAUSE she's so tough. They just assume she's a complete emotional rock... but nobody can be that tough."

...

"Uh, help her get the stick out of her ass?"

...

"I should stop talking. Hey, let's go get Karen and hit the onsen. You should grab the gin."

"I know. She's says a few things, sometimes, when she gets drunk enough to stop caring. She's lost a lot of people, and worries she'll lose us too. I don't know, maybe we should cut back on the risks we take a little? Maybe that will reassure her that we're not going to get ourselves killed and leave her alone again?"

Another thing we can do to assure her and open up. After this mission, we could personally check out that African theatre where Sanders was apparently shot down.

I dunno if Admiral Kowen's contacts followed up on it and relayed that info to Karen back before the Stardust arc, but overseeing it personally would definitely help.

"I know," you reply thoughtfully. "She talks alot when she's hammered... and we know she's lost a lot of people. So it's no wonder she'd closer herself off."

"Any ideas?" Carya asks her.

"She was interested in 'exploring' the baths we apparently have on this ship with me, so maybe we could hang out wit her there? Hot water, good company, some of my old man's booze..."

"The gin?"

"The gin," you agree.

"Oh my."

"Anyway, it should loosen her up a bit... I mean," you continue, having drawn a smirk from Catrina, "we might be able to get her to talk to us more openly."

"I agree," Carya tells you as you step into the room labeled "baths".

As soon as you step into the mists, however, you're confronted by a rather statuesque-bodied woman sitting at the edge of the water, whom you can't help but notice is missing a leg from the knee down. Droplets of water slide down her fully-exposed dark skin as she grins at you, proffering a glass of your old man's gin.

"Special delivery for a Mt O'Hara," Defrah announces cheerfully. "Where do you want it?"

Mine randomly acts up, for a while it would show multiple notifications for the same tweet and wouldn't let me refresh tweets, I had to wipe the cache/data and set it back up from scratch. I think I forgot to lower the settting that tells it when to retrieve new tweets, because it shows up on my timeline, just didn't get a notification for it

In the battle with the Delaz Fleet, her ribs were cracked, she was badly concussed, and her leg was shattered. She may be capable of piloting again, but it would be very difficult.

At this point she has other plans.

To make it clear, I just finished re-watching Gundam Wing tonight. So I have the English dub narrator's voice stuck in my head a little.
>>
Anyone have a picture of Defrah off hand?

Cause right now I'm imagining her as a dark hair Viletta (Code Geass) with the personality of Excellen Browning.

And that's a very fucking dangerous combo. For my dick
>>
So have we settled on a unit designation or should we just take all of them and confuse the hell out of people?
>>
>>35142634
I don't think there are any pictures of her, actually. She comes from Gundam Evolve, which frequently refrained from showing any actual humans.
>>
>>35142634
I googled and all I could find was references to these threads, lol.
>>
>>35142634
To my knowledge, no images of Defrah Kar exist.

In 'her' episode of Gundam Evolve, she never appeared outside of her suit, and you never see her face.
>>
>>35142667
I've got one I'm really pulling for personally.

Anyway, it's almost 6am here, so I'm out for the night.

>>35142684

So she's not a dark skin wrinkly old Asian lady? And it's pretty much up to the writer how she looks?

So my imagination could totally be legit?

I may just need to stop by Zorba's for some...accessories if this thread turns up the D to 11

Viletta with black hair is about my mental image, actually.

>>
>>35142712
Dominic's Valkyrie.
>>
>>35142712
Is it Kirk Grim? Because I liked that one. Maybe use the Swedish "Kyrkogrym" to tie it into the Scandinavian mythology theme we've got going on with the Valkyrie. Or we could just piss off Wes Murphy and name ourselves El-Ahrairah Team so that he can't use that one (the joke, for those that don't know, is that almost every machine in Advance of Zeta is named after something from Watership Down. Lieutenant Murphy likes rabbits.).
>>
>>35142773
You like Karen, you like Haman AND you had the same idea?

You, are my fucking nigga King.
>>
>>35142760
I'm personally calling the team Bloody Magpies in my head.

We steal, capture, and gift ourselves mobile suits, technology, and Zeon women.
