You lean back in your chair, as much to put less pressure on your still-distended stomach as to appear relaxed and totally not trying to get as much information as you can from Anchovy and her team in order to absolutely wreck her team in your coming bout. Unfortunately, however, you haven't gotten much.

You are Commander Russells, of the M26E1 Pershing Heavy Tank "Black Jack" and Anchovy clearly knows what's up. But what she might not know is that you know she knows what's up. And now you have to do everything you can to keep her from realizing that you know that she knows what's up. And now you have a headache to go with that stomachache.

Other than the razor-thin tightrope walk around trying to avoid giving her any information while trying to get some small amount of information yourself, the night has gone pleasantly. Anchovy has been an incredibly friendly host for you and Miho, constantly letting you try some new Italian delicacy, usually with a Japanese twist all the while inquisitively trying to dig information about your tank out of you. Its kind of flattering- she couldn't care less about the rest of the team.

"Another cannolli, Commander?" She asks, sliding the plate of the things across the table towards you. Those things are practically weaponised. You've got a feeling she's trying to get you food-drowsy; as close to plying you and Miho with drinks as a sixteen year old Japanese schoolgirl is going to get. "Blueberry Mochi! They're delicious."

Hey BlackJack, 'nother Episode has been fully read, edited, and posted to pastebin (http://pastebin.com/1xhVvwZJ). However, there are some editing questions that have been raised.

>"I mean, I could probably have any of them if I didn't think it could..." You bloat the moment while you think. "Complicate team relations. Still, it's got to be hard for you, seeing me and Richard with girls all over us." You smile sadly at him. "And then you- with nothing to show for nearly a week of school besides a slightly longer and more disheveled beard."
How long have we been on the ship by this point? One week, two?
>Miho nods politely. "Pepperoni is an excellent cook! I don't think I've ever eaten that much in my life!" Thank you Miho- rescuing you from making an ass of yourself since forever.
How long have we actually been a couple now?
>"Alright, take us around, Cavatelli..." You say down to your driver. "Let's go have fun with their main force?" You slip another 20mm round into the chamber, getting ready for the attack- they can't be too far off, either.
I know this is really nitpicky, but she’s using the Solothurn S-18/1000, right? The same one in the pic? If so, it takes 10 round Magazines, with the ability to use the 20 round magazines from the 2 cm Flak 30. So shouldn’t the passage say something like ‘You load another 10 round magazine into the feed’?

>How long have we been on the ship by this point? One week, two?

I think we'd been on the ship about a week and a half at that point? It was during the paintball fight, right?

>>How long have we actually been a couple now?

Roughly a month? That was mostly just a bit of literary overstatement to imply that Miho was always pulling our asses out of the fire.

>I know this is really nitpicky, but she’s using the Solothurn S-18/1000, right? The same one in the pic? Yeah, I thought the Solothurn was roughly like the Allies' Boys Anti-Tank gun, which was a bolt-action weapon. The Solothurn actually seems closer to an auto-cannon with that description.

>>35121227
1. Yes, it was in between the water fights, Reader and I weren't sure if we were on ship for any length of time before the schoolyear.
2. Just double checking. Time skips can make it a bit difficult to gage things.
3. You are correct in that comparison. The S-18/1000 was semi-automatic, but there were also fully automatic versions made, so if you want Pepparioni to hose us with a 20mm, you can do that. It'l be no problem to retcon.

Follow up questions:
1. Have you decided whether the Semovente's mentioned earlier are 75/18's or 75/46s and how many there are?
2. Was the Anzio battle against Maginot told to us and Miho on the drive over?
>>
>>35121411

1. Leaning towards the 75/46s- Black jack is effectively fronally immune to the 75mm howitzers.

2. It was more of a flashback- Russells and Miho don't know much about it.

It's a shame about the Semovente 75/46 not being under Carpaccio's command. The potential match-up between her and Caesar would be dead close in that instance.

Now that she's using the 105, it'll be a whole different approach on Carpaccio's part. Less competing with reloading speed, and more trying to maximize each shot's usage. Oh well, give unto Caesar, that which is Caesar's.

You reach over and help yourself a cannolli, glancing over at Miho who ceased being amazed at your ability to pack food into your stomach some time ago. "So, you guys must have an ace up your sleeve..." You say, being friendly. "I mean, assuming you beat us you've got something to deal with the big dogs like Pravda and Black Forest..." You shrug. "We've got, well, Black Jack, of course... And a few things we're still getting running."

Anchovy leans a bit- perplexed. "What makes you think we need some secret weapon?" She shrugs. "We've done pretty well so far..."

Miho jumps in. "Strategy is important- but senshado ultimately comes down to knocking out their flag tank..." She looks at you and back to Anchovy. "Black Forest uses a Tiger for their flag tank- short-barrel 75mms and machinegun tankettes wouldn't be able to knock it out, even from short range."

Anchovy looks caught, looking from Miho to you. "They've got something that'll hunt a Tiger." You say to Miho. The trap is set- she thinks you think you have the advantage. Which means she thinks- Ow, goddammit. Stop you need to stop going all meta.

Still won't make 'em legal. Whether they'd enclose it or kitbash the gun onto another chassis, it will still betray the spirit of trying to work on a historical basis. It could still be used to practice their gunnery, but that's it. It won't be taken to the field.
At best, it's a novelty tank. At worst, a waste of resources.
>>
>>35122502
>enclose it
yeah, that's what I'm hinting at. However, since the rules on Senshado are really loose, we could argue this point till this time tomorrow and get nowhere.
With that in mind, let's just agree that it's a grey area, open to author/personal interpretation, and that BlackJack has final say in the matter, OK?
>for the record, he's in the same boat with you, he's made similar statements in the past.

I've always been of the idea that any tank which, by design, exposes its crew from any angle isn't Senshado legal.

If I may respectfully object,

>Exhibit A.
Pic related states that there are enclosed--crew compartment conversion kits for open-topped vehicles that can be purchased.

>Exhibit B.
Our very own Sentinel's Shielas and Sentinels. I admit as writefagging, it open to interpretation, but there is a precedent for ordering custom parts for a tank, like the featured Sentinels.

>In conclusion
I'd say it would be easy to find a armored roof for a Hell Cat, a Hummel or a SU-76... but something like the Semovente 90mm or a Marder, that's open on three sides, would be a big custom job, and would probably involve getting a very open minded judge to approve it.
>>
>>35123026
Well, IMO if it just roof then we should able to purchase custom room, and Senshado League will put special device for them.

If it open on several place like Marder, then maybe not. Too unhistorical on one side, and may lead to decreased performance.
>>
>>35123114

That's actually another big reason, too. Many open-topped vehicles are quite light- to a certain extent, many were open-topped to save weight. By putting an enclosed crew compartment on it you could cause a steep drop in performance.

It might be that its technically legal, but that its expensive and generally not worth the extra costs, risks and material.
>>
>>35123114
like I said, it's open writer/judge interpretation.

Myself, If the Anzio girl came to me with the blueprints for an enclosed Semovente 90, that kept the same historical performance despite the extra weight, I'd allow it. It shows effort, creativity, and dedication to both safety and historical accuracy.

Although, I am the guy whose first choice for a tank is a ISU-152, with the second being a Nashhorn, so I have a bit of a bias.

"Well, of course!" Anchovy says. "We've made upgrades to our tank team this year! A Tiger won't be a problem." Interesting- if she isn't bluffing, that means that they've got more than one new tank. You need a bit more though.

"Same for us- we've actually got our mechanics working on a project right now..." You say, leaning forward conspiratorially. "Black Jack's not going to have the only big gun on our team anymore..." You lean back again before glancing at Miho, who looks worried. "We might even have it ready for your match."

You doubt that, but it can't hurt to psyche her out a bit.

Anchovy's open her mouth to respond, but instead all you hear is the loud blaring of the fire alarms going off. Anchovy blinks, looking over at Pepperoni and the long-hair blond girl you assume is another lieutinant who's looking out down the hall. "What's going on?"

"Somethings on fire! There's a lot of smoke in the hanger!"

You jump to your feet. "Fire?" You look worriedly over to Miho. Fires and boats are generally one of the least wanted match-ups in the world. Granted schoolships are island-size ships, but fires have a way of getting out of control if not taken seriously.

Anchovy is already on her way to the door. "Stay here-" She says, before turning to Pepperoni. "Do we know where-" You get before the two disappear out the door. You look back at Miho, the only other person left in the room.

"You think...?" She starts to say.

"It's gotta be Yukari..." You say. Yukari had a tendency to get notions and run with them- seeing her coming to rescue you two is completely within the realm of possibility. "So, we're not going to stay in here, right?"

Miho is already standing up. "I don't think that's the best course of action..."

Now you're speaking my language. Reminds me, there's an image of the Gloriana girls talking of getting a Churchill AVRE.

1. we have one: Wargaming Girls. Neko-chan tries to volunteer pre-Anzio. If not them, we recruit OCs.
2. My point is, I'd rather stick to War Thunder's idea of 'acceptable' tanks rather than World of Tanks.

Care to amend that statement, Comrade?

Its not that anyone has tried it, so much that its nearly impossible to try. Considering that the P.1000 just barely even made it to the drawing board, that would mean that they'd have to have the complete designs themselves, as well as the ability to fabricate literally thousands of tons of armor and components to WWII standards. And that's just to see if the thing is even possible to use.

Really, all you have to do is look at the failures of the Maus- a tank a tenth of the Ratte's size- and the fact that they literally could not find engines powerful enough to move it at more than a jogging pace. I'd say the Maus and E-100 were probably at the very limits of how big you could make a tank and still have it be operationally effective.

Oh hey, yet another picture that shows the middle plate on the Super Pershing not stopping halfway up the glacis plate.
>>
>>35125426
Good points, however a Howard Hughes-like madman with way too much time and money on his hands could try it, just to prove it was feasible.

And considering the giant carrier ships of the GuP-verse, the industry for that kind of mad project exists and is thriving.

>>35125462
yep, That took them over the edge. now I have to hear that in my sleep for the rest of the year. Be glad we're such good internet friends.
>>35125465
Is it supposed to stop halfway?
>>
>>35125507

I suspect not. But someone over at Wargaming seems to be of the idea that the second plate stops halfway up the hull, leaving upper half of the hull plate penetrable by Tier VI heavies. (ARL 44 and KV-1S, as well as the M6 with premium rounds.)

"Alright, let's start getting people out of here..." You say heading for the door, all indigestion forgotten as you go to see to the Great American Passtime: Going out and sticking yourself into situations that you probably don't need to stick yourself into. As American as Apple Pie!

"Let's try to find Yukari as well..." Miho says as she follows you. "I think once we find her it might be a good idea to get out of here." She pauses. "Y'know, before they find out she started a fire in their hanger..."

You look back at her. "Hey, we don't know that Yukari has anything to do with-" You stop. "Okay, yeah. Let's find Yukari and get out of here." You actually notice that there's a distinctly chemical smell. You really hope that Yukari's rescue mission isn't responsible for burning down Anzio's tank hanger.

You really would like to come back here to each yourself sick at some point in the future.

shouldn't that be 'again'?

While I agree with you, I must say that motorisation wouldn't have been a problem for the Ratte. Maybach naval engines powerful enough to move it were readily available, and the Ratte (unlike the Maus) was envisioned with room to spare.

The real nightmare would have been to develop a working drive train and transmisson for a thousand-tonnes weighing land vehicle,

Yo dawg, i heard you like rescuing people so we make them rescue you when you rescue them so you can rescued while rescue.

Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nurnberg naval engines, sorry. Maybach was the tank engines producer.

>working drive train and transmisson for a thousand-tonnes weighing land vehicle,

Well, the Germans managed it for a 13,000 tonne vehicle.

Modern engineering.

ITL would have some lengthy session to determine if modern parts can be used for Ratte.

>>35125777
In context of Ratte, please. Ratte was planned during 1940s, and Bagger 288 in comparison feels like it come from future.
>>
>>35125810
The basic structural and motive principles are mostly the same.

Building machines that big has never really been all that problematic, from an engineering perspective. The primary problems are cost and the practicality of it's application.

Also, Bagger 281, a slightly smaller but similarly absurd vehicle was built as early as 1958. So yeah.
>>
>>35125837

You are right, however the main difference between the Ratte and the Bagger (and the american mobile crawler for rockets/space shuttle for the matter) is top speed. The Bagger and MLP can hit a couple of kph top, the Ratte was envisioned with a much higher combat speed. Which would have meant a much more intricate "gearbox".
>>
>>35125890
Mmm. Transmissions have always been the bane of the Germans.

Then again, this might be a possible application for Porche's Diesel-electric drive fetish. Not like they can't crib the electric motors from the last generation of U-boats, either. Just like the Diesel engines.
