She felt the entity known as AKAZU shift its vast attention towards her, felt how she became part of his story, fate and will and mind and heart all uniting for one who commands and orders and shapes.

Her questions died on her full lips, as the entity began to explain the nature of their contract and the things required of the girl and her companion.

The entity went to explain a good deal more things, many of which would only be understood with them. The entity said that all it asked of in return were for its rites to be kept. At being asked of the consequences for disobeying the entity merely said that in the World Above, contracts were binding independently of the will of the involved beings.

A quick glance at Eriadne confirms her only a bit less shaken than myself, her jaw set and eyes half-closed, looking seemingly towards something I cannot make out. Goddess…still, he listened at least. That has to be a plus at least. Just need to make sure we make it out of here well.

Relax, he probably can't help that his voice sets everyone around him on edge. He was pretty nice so far for someone so creepy.

"I shall guide you beyond the boundaries of the inner sanctum. The way is, I'm afraid, not quite as easy to find as it might appear at first. Navigation for, let us say, beings used to the Truths of Matter can be difficult".

Is he… is he trying to apologize? And why does he talk so much all of a sudden. Still, it's probably best to accept at least this. The sooner we get Eriadne out of this place the better.

It seemed natural to find the table they had shared before, and await Maria and Eriadne. The twins, bright, cheerful and babbling both prettily and happily orbit Evangelyne like the worlds orbit the sun. Sora was already there, waving them over much to Eva's amusement. Greeting one another with gently bumped fists, they settle at the table for breakfast.

The twins both sit up straight and look at someone approaching as Sora and Evangelyne talk quietly of inconsequentials, their attention only focusing on the newcomer when she arrives at the table, her long hair slightly tangled and her dress in slight disarray. Evangelyne remembers her, and stands up slowly as the girl fidgits before them.

"Sanya, isn't it? Can I help you?"

The soft words slip out unevenly as she looks down at the table, carefully avoiding harming those soft spectres and beautiful ghosts that inhabit the world around her. "....talk to Maria, apoloize...."

"Oi, speak up!" demands Sora, not unkindly.

The twins looks at one another, bemused and horrified by turns, exchanging their emotions as others exchange glances. "What do you" "need to apologize" "ffoorr?" Mixed words, like their mixed souls, words from dreams and places long misplaced and only found again.

"....didn't mean to hurt her....remembered I didn't apologize this time...." Sanya admits softly.

Evangelyne lay a hand upon her shoulder and is shocked by the expression of bright, hateful pain the washes over Sanya's expression. Her expression goes shocked, then suspicious, and then angry. "Sora, stay with the twins please!" she says as she moves around the bench, her eyes fixed on Sanya even as the other girl starts to turn to leave, run, escape. Evangelyne's grasp on her wrist - her other arm's wrist - is tight. "Oh no you don't, you're coming with me!"

The twins are confused, their eyes worried and Sora pats their heads, reassuring them with smiles and gentle words as Evangelyne half-drags the half-protesting Sanya from the dining room.

In a small room, largely unused, Evangelyne sits the specture, the monster, the horror down, makes her sit, makes her remain, fearless and terrifying. The offending arm's sleeve is pushed up, and a soft hiss escapes through clenched teeth. The bandage is poor, dirty, the red that has seeped through stained yellow about the edges, angry lines of red creeping up the pale flesh that do not stem from the blade of a knife or the claws of a monster. Aren't they the same though?

Evangelyne tsks as Sanya tries to pull away, but her grip is firm. "No, you need healing, if Maria saw this...." Panic ensues, and Evangelyne is hard pressed to hold onto the slim wrist, the terrified monster she had caught. "No, no! You're injured and it's infected. Be still!" She grabs the young witch, holds her shoulders....pulls her close, holds her tight as she struggles to get away until the weakened monster can no longer escape.

"....you can't....you can't...." Sanya's fearful words are coated in despair, in pain born of emotions entirely unsuited for monsters and horrors, pain not of flesh wounded.

"I know." She lefts go of the no logner strugglign girl, and carefully unwinds the soiled bandages, her expression sad and hard at once. Too many old, healed injuries. The word carved into flesh, time and time and time again, all times, all flesh. Scar tissue turned keloid by the repeated cuts, cuts this time turned bad, turned foul. Poisoned, poisoning the blood and the flesh above it. "She wouldn't be angry, you know. Or disgusted."

The horror agrees, silently. No, the witch who smells of dreams would not find it horrible, or disgusting or evil. She is pure, pure and wild and beautiful, and the forgiveness in her is boundless. "....no...." she agrees.

The mothering witch, the good witch, the healing witch applies poison to the poison, salve to kill that which kills, and the horror turns her face away, unable to watch the desecration of the injury that reminds her who she is. What she is. When and where. And why.

"No, I won't tell her," says the healer. Not because she is worried about what might happen. Evangelyne knows exactly what will happen. Maria wouldn't be able to help herself, wouldn't hesitate. She would try to help, but this is the type of wound that cannot be fought with staff or spear or sword. Can't be fixed with courage and hope. Not Maria's courage and hope. It is a sophisticated sort of pain, a wound of the soul far deeper than the wounds in the flesh could ever go.

Sanya makes a soft, pained noise, and she looks at the pained face, the broken spirit past the eyes, and tears her gaze away before the gaze is returned. The healer, the motherer, the protector sighs, and finishes the bandaging.

The monster spills tears, not for herself but for the person she mustn't tell, the person whom the witch that smells of hearth-warmed bread and thick furs and comfort speaks in this moment, this time, this place. Evangelyne's gentle embrace is warm like that fire, warm like those furs. "She'll try to help," murmurs the witch to the monster, "and she isn't ready yet."

Sanya sobs in the safety of Evangelyne's arms, and Evangelyne steels herself. One day Maria will be ready, and it is her duty to help Maria be ready....but for now, she can succor this girl, a little, for now.

For Maria, in Maria's place. Because Maria wouldn't know how, just yet.
