You are REINHOLT KRAFTBOHRER, and you are currently marching to the Academy infirmary to find ANNIKA DIEFENBACHER. The last 72 hours have been a whirlwind of excitement - you were inducted into the HJ, attracted the special attention of Heinrich Himmler himself, were shipped off to Berlin to attend the Academy for young SS applicants, and lastly, were ambushed yesterday afternoon by ANNIKA and her CYBERBEAR, Jozef. You engaged the CYBERBEAR in honorable knife combat - but lost the battle. Although the bear attempted to kill you, you were somehow rescued from DEATH ITSELF, by magics created by your grandfather, HELMUT KRAFTBOHRER. You were carried to the Academy's morgue - whereupon you received a terrible and bleak vision. How much of the vision is true - you do not know - but you do know that you and the KRAFTBOHRER BLOODLINE are somehow tied up with the very existence of the Reich itself.

This morning, you joined up with the student group "Eagle Squad", passing over Lightning, Boar, and Wolf squads. With your new squadmates, you moved as a patrol to Nordic Runes class - where you attained STURM ARYAN powers courtesy of the lecturer's runing of your BEARSCAR. Subsequently, the class was attacked by a WEHRMACHT KILLBOT, but the pilot of the robot escaped in a rocket pod. Only one person you know of might be able to examine the ruined robot and determine who was operating it, and why: Annika Diefenbacher.
>>
>>35044401

Now, you move purposefully through the halls of the Academy - already the rumors of your death and resurrection have spread like wildfire, and the other students whisper things like "There he is! Deathless Kraftbohrer!". You ignore the comments as you approach the infimary - but two GUARDS stand at attention at the doorway. It looks like you may not be able to walk in directly, how do you proceed?

You speak up again, not yet ready to admit defeat. "Mein Herren, what are your names?" The left guard sighs and says "Fritz." - the right says "Rainer."

"Gentlemen," you continue, "the girl I need to speak with has information concerning mechanical systems - information that can help defend this Academy from future attack. You both know that the SS have enemies within the Reich - please allow me to protect us all." The guards are surprised at your overtures, but finally, Fritz shrugs.

"Fine then - but all visits here are logged. We make an exception this time." He waves you though, and like that, you are passing through the hall of beds you remember from yesterday morning.

Following the signs to the psych unit, you approach a glass door - unlocked. You step quickly through and find a mostly empty series of patient rooms. Make sense, you think - Aryans do not often succumb to the diseases of the mind.

At the end of the hall, you see a nurse enter a room, so you follow her - and find Annika Diefenbacher strapped to her bed, as wild-eyed as you remember.

"You!" she hisses. "I saw Jozef kill you!" The nurse spins around and sees you as well. Shaking her head, she says "This poor girl is totally insane - but she must have been beautiful before she started living on the grounds. She's been presumed dead for almost 6 months - until now."

Annika starts to laugh and adds "Students can't kill me if they can't find me. Better to kill them before they learn anything dangerous."

The nurse leans to you and says, "This one has been scheduled for "behavioral modification". Make your visit quick - she will be processed before the end of the day." You nod quickly, pretending to understand, and the nurse leaves the room.

Well, do you try to calm Annika down? She's drooling slightly and attempting to rock out of her straps.

>21 out of 20, nice.

Annika seems to actually hear your words this time, and perhaps for the first time, you see the manic glint leave her eyes. Her brows furrow and surprisingly, a slight Bavarian accent seems to creep into her voice. "Fine denn. Untie me and I shall take a look at zis Robot."

The journey back down the Wehrmacht Killbot is uneventful - no one is in the halls at all. Probably everyone is in class, you guess.

At any rate, Annika says nothing at all during this period - just meekly follows you. You're not sure how long she can keep it together, but for the moment, you think she's fairly calm.

Climbing through the wreckage of Herr Earnst's classroom, Annika's face breaks open with a large uneven grin. "Oh. Big and loud, I bet it was." She all but leaps into the innards of the machine, poking wires and somehow finding some machinists' tools buried within the circuitry of the robot - all the while muttering things like "Shoddy wiring, tsk tsk." and "They should have routed power through here instead, the verdammt fools." and other more technical statements that you can't follow.

You tap your foot for a few minutes, and occasionally check the hallway outside, but it seems that Der Headmaster has bought you some time before the rest of the Academy will be alerted to the attack.

Turning, Annika catches you by surprise, grabbing you by the arm. "Here! Look at dis." Dragging you over to a small panel, she depresses a corner and lifts the panel. Underneath is a small plaque that reads.

MODEL 1-A PROTOTYPE
SARATOGA CLASS
02/02/1934

"See? This robot is not German at all - German make, maybe, but the design is all wrong - not efficient, too thick and slow in the wrong places."

------INTELLECT FLASH------

Saratoga Class? But Saratoga is a place in New York, a place in America! But this must mean that the Wehrmacht has been using American designs, or have spies in the American sciences!

--------------------------------
>>
>>35045956
Couldn't the Americans have built and sent a pretend-German robot to promote infighting between SS and Wehrmacht?
Maybe we should ask her to look for more clues regarding the robots origin.
>>
>>35045956

"And another thing!" Annika clambers over some ruined plating toward the neck of the robot, where circuitry has been blackened and blasted by the escape pod's rocket.

"Look here! This circuitry is all melted yes, but here! A short-wave radio antenna - this would have been piped to the pilot's chair for local comms. But Reinholt," she says, turning, "why would you need local comms when you are sending a single robot to attack the facility? It is not enough firepower to kill even you, it seems. This was a test, and one that some other person would have observed. There is a Wehrmacht agent in the Academy!"

A cracked giggle escapes her throat, and she continues - "But we can catch the rat with a little effort!" She doesn't wait for a response before tearing the radio circuitry from the robot, and quickly creating a portable version. "Now we just scan local frequencies, avoid the Reich stations, and...Yes! Listen!"

"Agent Overlook here, report in, Steam Engine. Steam Engine! Report!"

----EQUIPMENT GAINED-----

Wehrmacht Radio Receiver!

---------------------------

Annika's eyes begin to open wider again - the glossy look of a sick animal. "Now we track the scum! Follow the signal strength!"

She begins to laugh wildly and reaches suddenly below her into the machine, murder in her eyes.

You summon a shred of power from deep within your core, and faint golden light leaks from your pores.

You toss yourself through the air, hearing an eagle's cry distantly, as you do so - Annika won't get far.

-----ACROSS AN OCEAN----

A frail man sits quietly in a bright office - the sun streaming in from several windows around the room.

A dapper man opens a door to the room, shaped to match the wall.

"Mr. President, a moment of your time?" The frail man grins wearily and replies - "Of course, Winston. What can I do for you this morning?" Winston stands at military attention precisely three strides from the ancient desk and with clipped New York tones speaks.

"OSS report, sir. Hitler at it again. But we think we have a new twist to the story, sir. Partei leadership is divided - very divided. We've had limited contact with the Reichsmarshall Goring - the man seems to believe he'll have the best fighting force in the world in five years or less, and he's an ambitious fool to boot."

"All things we know, Winston." the frail man calmly replies.

"Not quite, Mr. President," Winston beams, with a bright smile.

-----------------------------

You come down on Annika with a crashing blow - and standing, you notice that's she knocked out. Probably better for her, honestly.

Grabbing some circuitry, you tie her up rather securely to the leg of the Wehrmacht killbot, and fire up the receiver - it's spy catching time.

Nothing but static. And then "Steam Engine, come in. Academy is not aware of attack. Are you suffering mechanical malfunction? Please report location. Currently in mechanics lab, can provide support. Attack must commence ASAP, please respond."

Shit. He actually announced his location.

>Chase that sumbitch down?

You keep the radio on, but hear nothing but static as you charge up several staircases and past a gaggle of students.

You see Stadtler in the distance at one point, and he calls to you "Reinholt! What's going on?" and you reply, "Lock down the Mechanics lab, bring the Eagles!" He nods quickly, and several Eagle Squadmates jump to their feet. You continue to top floor of the Academy, and reach a large, dark wooden door. The plaque simply reads - "HEADMASTER".

So, you knock.

Surprisingly, Der Headmaster himself opens the door - about six inches. A glowing eye peers around the door jamb.

"Ah, Reinholt. Let me guess - you have examined the robot and are tracking the spy."

"Ja - how did you know?" Der Headmaster laughs at this, winking slowly with his glowing eye.

"You are holding a radio transceiver, Reinholt - and you look like you are about to commit murder. Go then. I will send a team to collect the robot downstairs."

"Wait! Annika Diefenbacher is tied to the robot. She helped me!"

"Did she? Hmm. Perhaps we were wrong to schedule her for incineration. Very well, then." And the door slams shut.

Incineration?

A problem for another day, a colder voice whispers inside you. You turn and dash down two flights of stairs and then along a long hallway, following the signs for the mechanical laboratory.

You turn yet another corner, and find yourself staring at the husks of old cars and engine parts, dangling in the air. The lights are off, and the darkness pools underneath the robotic skeletons.
