You are Reinhold, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

The only issue at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to have some issues.

With your excursion into town done with and Marianne's super fancy llama-themed cake in tow (along with some assorted pastries for the rest of you), you and the others have just returned to the castle.

>Congratulations, you are now a timid LLAMA!
>Llamas are strong and hardy... but also rather skittish.
>The Princess considers you to be her friend!
>But while llamas may be majestic, they still don't count as people.

Once the carriage has come to a full stop and you've gotten the okay from the driver that it's safe to finally leave the carriage, you open the door and hop out first, then help the three ladies out of the carriage. After Takamaru's safely out as well, there's only one thing left to worry about...

"Umm..." you say as you peer inside the carriage, "...so what are we gonna do about the cake? Should I bring it out now, or maybe we can ask someone else how we should handle this?"
"It's pretty big, maybe I should help you bring it out?" Nicolette suggests.
"No!" Melanie shouts. "Absolutely not!"
"Huhwha?" Both you and Nicolette stare at Melanie. You're definitely not used to her being this loud or forceful.

...well maybe the latter, but she's never actually tried to boss -you- around before.

"There's too much of a risk of the two of you dropping the cake if you try to bring it out yourself," Melanie says, resting her hands on her hips for extra emphasis.
"C'mon, we're not clumsy," Nicolette sighs. "You just hold on to the wine and our stuff, and me and Reinhold'll-"
"Absolutely not!" she replies.
"Er, then how do you suggest we take care of this, Melanie?" Luciana asks. "Maybe Takamaru could take Nicolette's place in bringing the cake in?"
"Hey, I am NOT clumsy!" Nicolette protests.

Yeah, you can't exactly blame her for being offended in this situation.

"That's not it," Melanie sighs. "Let's get Mr. Arnaud to bring in the cake, okay? We went through so much trouble to even get the cake, and it would be a total waste if someone was to drop it... and Mr. Arnaud's balance is perfect."

Suddenly, you flash back to all the times that he's come in during teatime with a full teaset balanced on his hand in various showoffy ways...

"Yes, I suppose that would be for the best," Luciana nods. "So one of us will fetch Uncle Guillaume while the other goes to find Marianne?"
"Sounds like a plan," you nod.

>Princesses are one thing and cakes are another
Our lives have been geared towards the purpose of princess defense more so than cake defense.
But I do wonder how Cake Guard Quest would have turned out.
Would Reinhold have still inappropriately grabbed his cake early on?
Would he have gone after the fancy, exotic, foreign cake despite the fact their was already a cake at home that was clearly pining for him?
Would he have told the little cake that it could come along and see his grandma and then tell it to wait in the carriage?
We may never know.

In a way that reminds the cake of how it was once inappropriately grabbed by your predecessor, thus unfurling a whole side to your cake that you never knew existed.
Ultimately, you and your cake's relationship is stronger for this, though the process is initially very painful.

"I guess I'll go and get Marianne," you say, shrugging. "It's kind of my job, after all."
"Alright, then I'll go and find Arnaud," Nicolette replies. "Melanie, you've got the wine and our bags and stuff, right?"
"I do," Melanie nods.

After making sure that your own bags are safely in the carriage (there's no way you intend to carry those heavy grimoires around with you while you wander around the castle), you and Nicolette part ways. According to Melanie, Arnaud's usually in the armory at this time of day so Nicolette heads for a service hallway off to the side, but you don't really have any idea where Marianne would be right now.

With no other way to go, you make a beeline for the main hallway. She should be with her father since you've been gone all day, so maybe one of the servants or guards would know where they are...

As you pass through the front gate, you hear the sound of cheering coming from your right... sounds kind of like Elena. And her voice is coming closer...

"Oh," you say as you turn to face her, "Hey, ElenaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAGH!"

Elena. Riding on Sir Gregory's shoulder. And he's coming RIGHT FOR YOU. Just as the panic starts to set in, you notice that Sir Vincent isn't too far behind him, and Racquel's riding on his shoulder... what the hell are they doing!?

Time seems to slow down as you're filled with panic... but then experience wins over and you jump back into the adjacent passageway just before you'd end up trampled. Without even a side glance, the two men (and their "riders") race past you.

"...the hell is going on?"

That was QUITE the shock there.

But you take a few breaths and try to think of this rationally. Elena and Racquel were riding on their shoulders and they didn't seem to be alarmed... aside from the fact that they were about to crash into you. As such, you can come to the conclusion that there wasn't any actual danger afoot.

So the alternative... maybe they were racing? It seems kind of weird for Sir Gregory to be doing, but then you remember how he was doing something similar with Elena back when you were in Marconetti. Yeah, that's got to be it. Some kind of weird little-girl-riding-on-shoulder race that Sir Gregory and Sir Vincent were having. It's weird, but not totally out of the question.

But Sir Vincent has -two- younger daughters, and Valerie is usually with Racquel, isn't she? Maybe she's acting as the referee?

Wondering where Valerie might be, you look off in the direction that the two Knights came running from... and there she is, cheering on her father. And not too far from her is the very amused King Thierri... along with Marianne.

She doesn't look too happy.

You approach the three non-racers, waving to them as you walk.

"Reinhold!" Thierri laughs, resting his heavy hand on your shoulder. "You came back just in time!"
"What's going on?" you ask. "Is this some kind of race?"
"Yup," he nods. "Elena was asking who was the fastest out of the three of us, and then it just kind of turned into this..."
"Huh," you say, glancing over in the direction of the two men who are still running. This hallway extends the entire length of the castle, so they still have a ways to go.

"You two aren't participating?" you ask.

"And there you have it," Thierri sighs. "She thinks that she's too old to act goofy with her old man..."
"Your guilt trips won't work," Marianne replies, glaring at him.

You feel kind of bad for Thierri. Just a little bit.

"Yeah, yeah... ooh!" Thierri peers down the hallway. "Looks like they're finished!"
"It's about time," Marianne mumbles under her breath.
"Hey Valerie, did you catch who won?"
"No, they're too far down," Valerie shakes her head.
"Oh well," he shrugs. "Let's go down and see for ourselves, eh?"
"Okay!" she chirps.

As Valerie starts running down the hallway with her arms extended to either side, Thierri turns to his daughter.

"See?" he points at Valerie. "Valerie was trying to act all stuffy, just like you. But now she's totally into it!"
"Valerie's also twelve years old," Marianne says, rolling her eyes.
"That's only three years younger than you, you know," he sighs. "And age is no reason to hold yourself back from having fun."

"Well if it makes you feel any better, you can always make me take your place the next time this happens."

Gradually, a smile forms on the Princess's face as she seemingly imagines just what such a scene would look like... but she quickly clears her throat before she starts to laugh.

"...I think I'll do just that," Marianne says, smiling at you. "And then perhaps I'll hire your brother-in-law to immortalize such a scene onto canvas for everyone to see."

"Actually," you begin, "I've got something for Marianne and I think that the rest of you might want to stick around to see it."
"Oh?" Thierri says, raising an eyebrow.
"...if it's for Marianne, then I should probably..." Sir Gregory makes for the exit, but Elena tugs on his sleeve.
"Aww, can't you stay?" the little Princess begs her uncle. "It'll be more fun if you come to see Reinhold's big secret present too!"
"Yes, you should come too!" Valerie joins in.
"...you too, Valerie?" he sighs.
"And me too, Uncle Gregory!" Racquel says, taking his hand.
"...God damn it..."

"Yaay!" the three girls cheer in unison.
"But ONLY for a little while, Ariane's cooking dinner and I don't want to eat cold food," he says, crossing his arms.

So that's... eight more people for caketime. But even with them there should still be MORE than enough so you're not too worried.

"So where is this big surprise supposed to be?" Marianne asks.
"Nicolette and Arnaud are taking care of it right now," you reply. "I should actually head back over there to see how it's going..."

"I suppose I can wait until Father and the others can see whatever your big reveal is as well," Marianne replies, shrugging. "And that's how you'd prefer to do it, isn't it?"
"Pretty much, yeah," you shrug. "Umm, I'll be right back!"
"Try not to keep us waiting too long!" Thierri laughs.

With a slight bow, you take your leave and hurry back to the castle gate where the carriage is waiting. Luckily, it looks like Nicolette's already back.

"Were you able to find Arnaud?" you ask.
"Yeah," Nicolette nods. "He's carrying the cake down to the dining hall while Melanie acts as his eyes since the thing's so huge."
"I wanted to have it brought to the courtyard instead," Luciana says, "but it's getting dark so that option was knocked out."
"Hey, what's wrong with the dining hall?" Nicolette asks, turning to her cousin.
"Nothing, I just thought it would be nice to have the cake out with the flowers. It would have made for a nice scene, that's all."
"Looks like some of Reinhold's artsyness is rubbing off on you," she laughs.

"Perhaps we should hurry down there now," Takamaru says. "I don't think that you want to keep them waiting, after all."
"That's right," Luciana nods. "Let's hurry up before Marianne starts getting impatient... you did tell her to wait, right?" she says, turning to you.
"Yup," you nod.

Before you leave, you glance over at the carriage... your books are still there, along with the grimoires that you got for Luciana. Maybe the cake reveal would be a good time to give them to her?

...though giving her a gift while the others weren't around would be more romantic... well, as romantic as it could get with Takamaru hovering around as always.

Nah, you should probably leave them up here for now. After all, this is a thing for Marianne, and it'd be kind of weird to spring one surprise in the middle of someone else's surprise event.

Yeah, that can wait until she's about to head home.

"What's up, Reinhold?" Nicolette asks. "You leave something in the carriage?"
"Yeah, but I can get it later," you reply. "C'mon, let's go."
"It's cake time..." Luciana giggles. "I can't wait to see the look on Marianne's face when she finds out!"

Not wanting to keep Marianne and the others waiting any longer than you have to, you hurry down to the dining hall as fast as you can. Once there, you find Melanie and Arnaud busy adjusting a massive box at the center of the table.

"I'm not tall enough, so maybe you should have Reinhold or Mr. Takamaru help with the unveiling," Melanie says.
"Yes, I suppose you're right," Arnaud replies. "And speaking of which, here they come right now."
"Hm?" she turns to the door. "Oh, so they are!"
"Hey, Melanie," Nicolette waves to her girlfriend. "How're the cake plans going?"
"Well enough," she replies. "When the Princess gets here, we'll have someone lift up the box and that'll be the big reveal."
"Sounds good," you say.
"And while everyone's getting their slices of cake, then we'll also show her the llama cookies that Mrs. Wilhelm made as well."

"What in the..." Marianne gasps.

One by one, the multiple tiers of the ornate cake that you had custom-ordered are revealed. Mrs. Wilhelm used colored frosting to draw pictures of llamas all along the sides of each layer of the cake, and even went so far as to make little llama-shaped decorations along the terraced edges made of donuts. With a whopping six layers of pure confectionery goodness, you couldn't have wished for it to have turned out any better than it did.

And Marianne... she's standing there in shock with her hands covering her mouth.

"Oh wow!" Thierri laughs. "This is the big surprise you had prepared?"
"Yeah," you nod. "We got it from a bakery that Marianne likes, and then I asked for the llama decorations since I know that she thinks that they're cute..."
"That's right," Luciana nods. "This entire thing was Reinhold's idea."
"But the King's the one who paid for it," you say, giving him his credit. "So, uh... what do you think of it, Marianne?"

Regardless of how proud you are of your handiwork, it doesn't really mean much if Marianne herself doesn't like it.

"I..." she mumbles. "...I can't believe that you'd actually go through the trouble of..." her voice starts choking up. "And then there's the decorations, too..."
"Your father and me felt bad that you weren't able to come into town with us, so we thought that this would be a good way to cheer you up," you explain. "Since you like sweets, and there was that lla-"

No, but /tg/ doesn't know anything about dealing with girls other than hugs or headpats according to every single quest. So try to not think about it too much. It'll probably be fine. Although it is pretty embarrassing at this point that it's always their go-to.
>>
I have trouble thinking of anything better than Llama that isn't Turtle.

Maybe it's Turtles all the way up?
>>
>>34903534
Karel was ok with it.....kinda
>>
>>34903539
We've achieved llama king rank.
>>
>>34903563
she loved every second of it. She'll never admit it, though.

Llama Neeson.

Yes, I approve of the Great Llama King rank.

You're not sure how you should react to this... so you just do what comes naturally and hug Marianne right back.

"I'm just glad that you liked it," you say.
"I really do, it's adorable," Marianne replies.

Once she's gotten her fill of hugs from you, Marianne lets go and moves on to her father.

"Since Reinhold said that you're the one who footed the bill for this cake, I owe you thanks as well," Marianne says as she hugs her father.
"I had to make up for ruining your trip somehow, you know?" Thierri laughs. "And I got you to actually hug me in front of everyone, so-"

And before he can even finish talking, Marianne lets go of him and pushes him away.

"I should've kept my big mouth shut," Thierri sighs.
>>
>GUARD RANK UP!
>Congratulations, Reinhold is now a fearsome DIRE WOLF!
>Far larger than their the other types of wolf, the Dire Wolf's size also means that they are far more dangerous.

>Though she didn't want you to be stuck back at the castle with her, your offering to do so really meant a lot to her!
>And the llama-themed cake was so thoughtful on your part that not even the stone-willed Princess was able to hold back her tears.

>The Princess considers you to be her dear friend!
>But while dire wolves are massive, they don't -quite- stand on the same level as people.

Bah.

I did not expect that, but I don't mind.

Can she warg into us now?
>>
>>34903662
hey arch, what rank would we be at now if we went best princess route?
>>
>>34903689

arch said you need Highest Rank to have her reciprocate feelings.
>>
We've reached a pretty decent place to end this thread, I think. And at long last, the Guard Rank has finally gone up!

I have a paper to write so I'll be skipping Tuesday night, but I'll be back on Wednesday with a return to False Dendrite. It's sure to be filled with both spaghetti and Happenings!

And now it is time for a short question taking time thing.
>>
>>34903680
It's just a coping mechanism. Marianne finds it easier to trust animals than people. People rank is probably below worm.
>>
>>34903703

Cheers.

Who among the cast is at Dire Wolf Rank? And was it the highest Rank Millien ever reached?
>>
>>34903701
Well if we'd gone princess route we'd be a higher rank by now.
>>
>>34903703
Have any of our guesses at the later ranks been any close to the truth?
Is there a Dragon Rank?
>>
>>34903725
Dragons are people too so probably not would be my guess.
>>
>>34903703

What do the girls think of this little display of affection?
>>
>>34903735
I'm guessing Dragon would be one of the highest ranks.
>>
>>34903703
What thoughts went through Luciana's head right now? What about Emilio?

Alternatively what did their faces reveal?
>>
>>34903670
sadness :(
>>
>>34903689
>hey arch, what rank would we be at now if we went best princess route?
Higher than this one, that's for sure.

>>34903719
>Who among the cast is at Dire Wolf Rank? And was it the highest Rank Millien ever reached?
Milien was one rank higher than Dire Wolf prior to the incident.

>>34903740
>What do the girls think of this little display of affection?
They think it's totes adorbs.
Reinhold was kind of worried that Luciana would feel jealous about him hugging on another girl, but she's too busy choking back sympathy tears to act bitchy.
and she wouldn't care anyways

>>34903756
>What thoughts went through Luciana's head right now? What about Emilio?
>Alternatively what did their faces reveal?
Emilio is the jealousest.

And now it is time for me to sleep. Thanks for playing!

and thus the glorious llama reign comes to an end

Eh. Just be a cool big bro. Not pushy like Karel or Lewd like Giancarlo.

>>
>>34904453

arch just confirmed on the Ask.fm that Emilio isn't attracted at all to dude!Karel.

>>34904332

Either says that Karel cares very much about him, or that there's a chance he has already caught the attention of one girl and just don't know it.
>>
>>34904491
I just think it's a bit cruel to make him question his sexuality like that.

>>34904729
I like the second, it makes him all paranoid.

Imagine if he go for Alicia.

>>34904729

Kek, the only reason a girl would give him any attention would be because she is a grave digger

Don't be like that, the maid liking the bashful prince kind of stories are always great.
>>
>>34904801

KarelxEmilio is more like a genderswapped Princess and Knight deal.

Complete with the Knight turning up to be a secret Prince too.
>>

I wonder if Karel is strong enough to lift Emilio.

We've still got like 14 more threads before we wake up tomorrow with everything on fire.
>>
>>34907329
2 for the cake eating and giving Luciana our present.
1 more for seeing Marianne off.
2 for hanging out with Emilio and Karel

A total of 6 normal-sized threads before we finish the day.
>>
>>34907381
We should probably set aside some time to hang out with the girls we locked out of our route before they start getting killed off
